Entering Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, 2022 – © Avard Woolaver This is the place I call home, one of three Brooklyns in Nova Scotia, It was founded in 1761 and called Nelegakumik by the Mi’kmaq Nation (meaning “broken snowshoes”). I stopped the car on Route 14 and let the high beams illuminate the speed sign. It’s a technique I use on quiet nights when there is little traffic.

in the books Luke and Percy's biggest difference was their mothers: Percy was Luke if he'd had a loving kind mother and vice versa

but in the SHOW: THE DIFFERENCE IS JUST AS MUCH THEIR FATHERS. posidon might not be there but he listens to Sally, he claims Percy really quick despite the consequences, he grabs him with water at the arch and sends a Nereid to talk to him and most of all SURRENDERS to Zeus for a WAR just for his son.

but Hermes? he says he cares but left May like that(as far as we know) didn't really acknowledge Luke after his quest(again we don't know) and never does anything to actively care for him.

#its been making me think about the cartoon a lot lately for the sake of comparing and contrasting #so thats great #it was a very good cartoon #i do actually think that its stupid to complain about how its objectively bad when an adaption makes changes to the original #because that SHOULD be the point of an adaption. to try things in a new way and somehow improve on the story #but i think its funny how this show is constantly like ''we're gonna take a DIFFERENT route with this character'' #and then the DIFFERENT ROUTE leads to them driving the car off a cliff #we will not get to our destination this way bestie #out of all the changes theyve made to the original i think the most misguided and overall dogshit is how theyre portraying Azula #it annoying when people say ''theyre ACTUALLY writing her as a victim of her father's abuse this this'' #''shes ACTUALLY sympathetic this time'' #girl i hate it here #netflix show is a COWARD for showing Azula this way in season 1 #not that its not somewhat in character. if ozai started playing mindgames with her she probably would start spiraling like this #the problem is that we shouldnt be SEEING IT!! #avatar is regarded as Baby's First Media Analysis for a lot of people #and boy oh boy there was a lot of analytic meat to Azula's character #but the netflix version? this is a skeleton!! bones!!! #like obviously if you were watching the cartoon as an adult it would be immediately apparent #that this 14 yo girl acting not only like a grown woman but a calm calculated genocidal tyrant is very concerning #and it makes her sympathetic by defualt on the grounds of being a child #but a kid isnt going to realize that!! Azula is supposed to be polarizing!! #youre meant to buy into the narrative that everything is easy for her. that no effort troubles her mind #her unflappable nature is meant to unsettle you. intimidate you. she has no weaknesses shes unstoppable and shes pure evil #as a kid who is still learning how to think deeply about things thats how youre to perceive her #and then. AND THEN!! then the show pulls the rug out from under you and makes you question everything #Azula's gradually unraveling sanity in book 3 is jarring and unnatural and it forces you to challenge your own opinion of her #you become uncomfortably aware that shes a victim too. after all this time youve spent hating her #just like zuko. just like the fire family child that you had already come to realize was ''actually good'' #after that first watch its hard to decide how you feel about her. as a kid anyway. but its sad. its all so very sad

I thought that it was stupid that Brandon Sanderson had the narrator of Tress of the Emerald Sea call all the unnamed sailors "Dougs" when he could have just called them, you know, sailors. But then I started using the term. Turns out having a word for "yes, we know that realistically all these individuals have unique identities and personalities, but they're not the focus of this story so we're going to treat them as faceless background characters" is surprisingly useful.

#random thought of the day #because i was thinking way too deep into the portrayal of the nurses in artful dodger #and getting a bit worked up at how they're shoved aside (as usual for medical dramas) and not treated as real people #and then i was like 'calm down they're just dougs in this story it's okay' #(and then the next ep had one of the nurses call the girl a witch and i was like 'oh they remembered they have feelings. good work') #(and i felt even better) #incidentally despite my one and only post about that show being an angry nursing rant i am enjoying it #the girl's stupidly modern face and extreme entitlement are annoying #and i did skip part of ep ii because i'd just prefer not to watch relics be the butt of the joke #(even though they looked to be heading a slightly-less-offensive route than expected) #and ep 3 is going more soapy and melodramatic and less fun #but i do like that they have a 'young idealist versus experienced fatalist' dynamic going #soundtrack is fun #anachronism stays mostly on the fun side of the scale #fagin is shockingly amusing (i had expected more of a 'creepy blackmailer holding the past over his head' instead of 'chaotic criminal dad' #and i like that they're showing some restraint #(the deciding factor in watching it was my extreme surprise that a historical original was tv-14 instead of ma) #so we'll see how long it lasts but for now i'm not regretting the decision to watch

1. My favorite thing about the fandom

I've probably said this before, but I honestly really like that tri strat's a pretty small fandom! I love some more popular things like fire emblem, but I rarely participate in those fandoms because it's more intimidating to post stuff that I know significantly more people will be looking at. Even my stuff on triangle-strategy-notes, which isn't super creative (like fanfic or fanart) is stuff I probably wouldn't do for fe. There's already Japanese -> English translation discourse going on over there and I know I'd probably get zinged for a lot of the mistakes I make on the artbook stuff hahahaha.

4. My favorite fanart from the fandom

I'm going to do several here bc there is SO MUCH cool fan art for triangle strategy esp. considering how small it is.

@kelbunny's Cordelia paladin concept has lived in my head rent free ever since she posted it because I am thinking 24/7 about how cool it would have been if Cordelia had ended up with a more significant role after retaking Whiteholm (not that a healer can't have a significant role but. we all know JRPG protags have to have at least one sword or will the devs REALLY let them be a JRPG protag). It's such a fun concept, and I also really love the way it parallels Avlora's dark knight thing she's got going on. It's just!!!! very cool!!!!!

The scene in general is SO GOOD and I just think it's a really cool drawing of it :) She also has a ton of other cool tri strat + fire emblem art that I really enjoy

6. My favorite character

To the surprise of probably no one I love Avlora a whole lot :) :) :) I'm a sucker for morally grey characters in general and Avlora in particular is really interesting to me for a few different reasons. One big difference between her and a character like Edelgard von Fire Emblem is that Avlora is just super unapologetically not feminine in the typical sense. She super easily could have been written as a man with essentially zero changes to the script outside of pronouns, and there's no "whoa isn't it nuts that we're taking orders from a woman?" moments or really any acknowledgement whatsoever that it's uncustomary for the setting. And the same thing goes for a lot of Tri Strat's female characters which I think is really cool! I don't have anything against girlbosses getting to be a little girly on occasion (and I think for Edelgard in particular it works well considering her whole arc with trust + vulnerability), but there's definitely something really cool about Avlora getting to step outside the stereotypes a bit and just get to be a general without so many references to her gender.

Zion Overlook, UT (No. 1)

Your drive up Cedar Canyon to the plateau begins with a bang as you drive through the vibrant Cedar red hills, half way up you thread the narrows of the Ashdown Gorge and near the top you are treated to a small geologic amphitheater, not unlike the massive one found in Cedar Breaks National Monument.

Cresting the plateau at nearly 10,000 feet you will find the Zion Overlook remarkable. Through a forest of spruce and ponderosa the earth rapidly falls away fanning out toward the majestic canyons of Zion National Park.

Next up you will come to the Navajo Lake Overlook. A prehistoric volcano eruption dammed the east end of the present day lake. Volcanic activity was once common on the plateau. The surrounding forests have sprung up from these ancient lava flows. From the lookout you will see the turquoise waters of this narrow lake nestled at the center of a beautiful pine and aspen valley.

As you got snuggled in again, you found yourself unable to get back to sleep. It seems as though getting up to snatch another blanket was just enough to keep you awake. So you quickly became bored.

You had turned on you phone in an attempt to entertain yourself. However, tumblr seemed to be glitching. In the middle of each post, it said

As you looked for something else to do, you heard something go *thud* downstairs.

You went downstairs, despite the small voice in the back of your head telling you to stay upstairs.

At the end of the staircase, you notice that the umbrella stand near the entrance has fallen over. Which is strange, considering you don't have an umbrella stand

>>Go to the kitchen. All of this walking around has made you hungry.

>>Fix the umbrella stand.

>>Go back upstairs go back upstairs please for the love of God go back upstairs

You quickly turned around to go back up the stairs, but out of the corner your eyes, you see something move.

Not wanting to stick around, you quickly turn and rush up the stairs. Just in time too, it seems, as you felt something try to grab your ankle. It felt cold, like ice. Luckily, you managed to slip out of its grip.

At the bottom of the stairs, it's completely pitch black, with the exception of two bright spots, almost like little headlights. They almost look like eyes. However, it doesn't seem to be able to come upstairs. You are safe. For now.

>>Point and laugh at whatever it is. It can't get you anyway (or can it?)

>>Go downstairs

Once you made it to your bedroom, you feel yourself begin to calm down. Whatever adrenaline your body had pumped into you had started to wear off.

>>Find a plush. Maybe the Thing would like it?

>>Go downstairs

You find a plush and go back to the stairs, where the thing is still waiting. Gently, you pushed the plush down towards it. As soon as it reached the bottom step, something black and sharp reached out and stabbed clean through the middle. With the stuffy still attached, it retreated. Soon the sound of ripping fabric filled the air.

Back in your room, you try to decide what you should do. After all, you're starting to get bored.
