You know what I really love about writing Sonic fanfics? The fact that Sega left so many unanswered questions in the games, thereby allowing me to create locales such as Emerald City (basically, my equivalent of Mobotropolis) or the Roseinian Empire (my version of the Sonicverse’s equivalent of the Soviet Union), or to expand on certain relationship dynamics that weren’t heavily touched on in the games, such as how Rouge views Shadow as “her little Shaddy baby” and just wants him to be happy. Granted, I realize that not everybody has the same conception of the Sonicverse as I do, but still, I’m sure other Sonic fanfic writers can understand my sentiments.

With Memorial Day in our rear-view mirrors and the Fourth of July coming 'round the bend, I thought it was time for a patriotic Sonic headcanon: while not particularly pledging allegiance to any one country, Sonic is a big believer in the phrase "stand for the flag, kneel for the fallen". In contrast, national holidays make Shadow rather skittish because some - like the Roseinian Empire's "Revolution Day" - remind him of how political extremists were responsible for many conflicts around the globe.
