Just saw the post with Kytra's tweet and yiiiiiikes. I was already suspicious of Rhonda with the Nassar thing but this makes it even worse. For the sake of the current and future gymnasts at Florida I'm glad it seems to be better under Jenny.
i will be really real on oprah here and say i have always given rhonda the benefit of doubt until now - it just seemed like she did what she thought she could do, should have done more but seemed to be more a matter of information and misguided trust in the system, and most importantly: the gymnasts seemed to like her. but if that isn't even the case, if some gymnasts resent her because she allowed (and maybe even helped?) this racialised marginalisation and bullying to continue... off you go sis
(i have read some not good things about jenny too but it was about the whole deal with peyton ernst's medical status and eventual transfer, and honestly that flaw is workable compared to the ambient of equality she has given trinity and other athletes of colour)

Trick 'r Treat is a 2007 American anthology horror film written and directed by Michael Dougherty and produced by Bryan Singer. The film stars Dylan Baker, Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin and Brian Cox. It relates four Halloween horror stories with a common element in them, Sam; a mysterious child trick-or-treater wearing shabby orange footie pajamas with a burlap sack over his head. The character makes an appearance in each of the stories whenever a character breaks Halloween traditions.
Tumblr media
Despite being delayed for two years and having a small number of public screenings, the film received much critical acclaim and has since garnered a strong cult following.[3] In October 2013, the filmmakers announced that a sequel, Trick 'r Treat 2, is in the works. In 2016, Michael Dougherty and Legendary Pictures teamed up with AtmosFX to create a series of digital Halloween decorations that feature Sam.[4] In 2017, a Trick 'r Treat themed "scare zone" was added to Halloween Horror Nights, an annual event held at the Universal Orlando Resort, followed by a Trick 'r Treat haunted house in 2018.[5][6][7]
Plot
The film takes place over the course of Halloween in the fictional town of Warren Valley, Ohio. Its story is told in a nonlinear narrative, with characters crossing paths with each other throughout the film. At the center of the story is Sam, a peculiar trick-or-treater dressed in pajamas and a burlap sack, who appears to enforce the "rules" of Halloween.
Opening
In the opening scene, Emma and her Halloween-loving husband Henry return home after a celebratory night. Henry takes a rest in his house while Emma begins tearing down the seasonal decorations before the night's end, and is murdered by an unseen assailant. Henry discovers her mutilated corpse on display with the decorations hours later.
Principal
Charlie, an obese vandal who smashes jack-o'-lanterns, is caught and lectured by his school principal Steven Wilkins on how the rules and traditions of Halloween must be obeyed and respected. Charlie dies after vomiting up poisoned candy; Wilkins' chocolate is spiked with cyanide. While attempting to cover up the death, he ends up handing out candy to children; even a visiting Sam. Wilkins tries burying Charlie and another child in his backyard, but is interrupted continuously by his son Billy and neighbor Mr. Kreeg, an elderly, scarred recluse whose only company is his dog. Wilkins takes Charlie's severed head indoors so he and Billy can carve a jack o'lantern out of it, with Billy either unknowing or uncaring about if the head is real or not.
Halloween School Bus Massacre
A group of trick-or-treaters – Macy, Sara, Chip, and Schrader – meet Rhonda, a Halloween fanatic, said to be a savant. The group travels to a local quarry where Macy recalls the urban legend of the "Halloween School Bus Massacre". Eight mentally challenged children died in a school bus on Halloween; the driver had been paid by their worn out parents to dispose of them, and was the only survivor of the crash. The group offers eight jack o'lanterns as tribute to the dead children. They pull a prank on Rhonda, posing as zombies, but terrify her. When Schrader defends Rhonda, a jealous Macy ends up kicking one of the lanterns in the quarry's lake after they are exposed, causing the dead children themselves to rise as undead. The group flees, but Rhonda reaches the elevator first and leaves them to die at the reborn children's hands. She briefly encounters Sam while leaving, exchanging a nod of respect with each other.
Surprise Party
Laurie, a self-conscious young woman, arrives in town with her sister Danielle and friends Maria and Janet. They pick up dates, save Laurie, who wants her "first time" to be special and declines their invitation for a get-together to enjoy the town festival instead. Laurie encounters a hooded serial killer, dressed as a vampire, who attacks her. At a bonfire, Laurie's friends witness the man (now severely injured) falling out of a tree and unmask him, revealed to be Wilkins. Laurie appears, having decided to join them for this occasion, and the girls transform into werewolves, devouring Wilkins and their deceased dates. Sam witnesses the feast.
Sam
During the time Wilkins is burying Charlie's body, Kreeg scares away children to steal their candy, aided by his dog. Sam breaks into his house, decorating it with Halloween memorabilia. Sam, unmasked as a demonic-looking pumpkin-headed child, attacks Kreeg. However, when he seemingly prepares to kill Kreeg, he instead takes a chocolate bar that landed on Kreeg's lap. Satisfied that Kreeg offered him candy (thus fulfilling a tradition of Halloween), Sam takes his leave from a confused Kreeg. Photographs in the fireplace reveal Kreeg to be the bus driver that killed the eight children.
Conclusion
Later, Kreeg begins giving out candy to children before gazing at the neighborhood. He witnesses Rhonda casually pulling her pumpkin cart along. He sees Billy handing out treats to kids and enjoying himself. He observes Laurie being dropped off by her sister and friends. He catches sight of Sam watching Emma and Henry returning home, with him going to exact punishment when Emma blows out a jack o'lantern. He returns inside, only to receive a knock on the door. Kreeg opens it, revealing the resurrected children waiting for him. The final shots of the film show Kreeg being dismembered, the children having gotten their vengeance.

New story in Politics from Time: How Women in Congress Are Using Fashion to Send a Message
Democratic women in Congress created a sea of white in the House chamber during President Donald Trump’s 2019 State of the Union address, a coordinated wardrobe choice that marked the latest iteration of how female lawmakers using clothing to highlight their visibility and telegraph intent.
Women from both the House and the Senate dressed in white, the color worn by the suffragettes, at the invitation of the House Democratic Women’s Working Group, to convey, as the group’s chairwoman, Rep. Lois Frankel told CNN ahead of the joint address, “a respectful message of solidarity with women across the country, and a declaration that we will not go back on our hard-earned rights.”
The group organized a similar all-white fashion statement for Trump’s address to Congress in 2017 to send a message that they support women’s issues; in 2018, they invited members of Congress to wear black in solidarity with the #MeToo movement.
The striking visual of Congresswomen in white at the 2019 State of the Union also highlighted the historic demographics of the current Congress, which boasts a record number of female lawmakers elected yet, roughly a fourth, according to the Pew Research Center.
Trump even referenced the milestone in the 2019 State of the Union, which earned loud chants of “USA, USA!” Though it’s worth noting that milestone is particularly true for the Democratic Party, which boasts 89 women representatives after the midterm elections versus the Republicans’ 13. The 116th Congress also included the noteworthy firsts with the election of the youngest woman, the first Native American women, and the first Muslim women ever elected to Congress.
Jonathan Ernst—ReutersA sweeping view shows dozens of Democratic congresswomen wearing white during President Trump’s State of the Union address in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 5, 2019.
But the women of Congress aren’t just making their mark on special occasions. They’re also using their everyday fashion on the floors of the House and Senate to send a message: what political power looks like in this country is changing.
Female lawmakers have long faced scrutiny over their clothing when the same is rarely applied to their male counterparts. A number of Congressmen also wore white ribbons as a show of solidarity with the women in white. For example, President Barack Obama once boasted that he improved his decision-making powers by always wearing the same blue or gray suit, while Hillary Clinton was once asked a question about a “hair and makeup tax” that adds extra time to women’s mornings.

(Photo By Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call)
In the past, women in Congress fought simply for the right to the same boring clothes — pushing for the right to wear pantsuits and more business-casual option. But in 2019, Congress voted to permit religious headwear on the floor for the first time in 181 years on the same day that the very first two female Muslim congressional representatives in history took office. And regularly, members of the current crop of lawmakers are using boldness to make a statement.

That boldness can help women yield power, says Dr. Rhonda Garelick, professor of Fashion Studies at Parsons School of Design in New York City, who points out that fashion is a nonverbal form of communications.
“We have to accord women their power with what they are dressed with what mode of communications women’s fashion gives them,” said Garelick, who’s writing a book about fashion and women’s culture in presidential politics. “It’s crucial not to reduce women to their appearance, that is all too easily and all too frequently done and a huge, sexist mistake. But that does not mean that we can’t acknowledge, appreciate and interpret fashion as part of their communications.”
In fact, Garelick argued that male politicians’ fashion should be scrutinized even more than it is, precisely because it is so uniform.
Win McNamee—Getty Images WASHINGTON, DC – JANUARY 03: Republican members of the House of Representatives are sworn in during the first session of the 116th Congress at the U.S. Capitol.
“The so-called sober, nondescript look of men also connotes power and how much more it takes for example, a young woman to dress in a way that speaks to power, when her male colleague simply has to put on a dark suit. What we’re talking about is the result of massive, historic inequities,” she said

Speaker Nancy Pelosi set an example when she wore a bold fuchsia sheath dress for her swearing in, drawing a contrast to the traditionally dark suits worn by men.
Zach Gibson—Getty ImagesWASHINGTON, DC – JANUARY 03: Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) participates in a mock swearing in ceremony with Vice President Mike Pence on Capitol Hill.
Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, the first openly bisexual member of the Senate, attended her swearing-in wearing a floral pencil skirt, a sleeveless pearl-embellished top and a pair of jeweled white stiletto pumps. Sinema paired the look with an impeccably curled bob, red lipstick, a gray faux fur stole, a glittery polka-dot handbag, and a pink jacket — an unapologetic display of overt femininity that Slate’s Christina Cauterucci wrote was associated with the pin-up style historically associated with queer femme identity.
I've never had much in the way of a #girlcrush before, but Senator Kirsten Sinema and her boots may have just changed everything for me. 🔥👢👑 pic.twitter.com/XxjdkEUxaj
— Believe Women ♀️ (@danayoung) January 27, 2019
Sinema made headlines during her Congressional appearances after being sworn-in with her convention-defying tall, knee-high or over-the-knee boots paired with colorful print dresses, a notable alternative to the standard neutrally colored dresses and sensible heels often seen on female politicians.
Tom Williams—CQ-Roll Call Reps. Deb Haaland, D-N.M., right, and Rashida Tlaib, D-N.M., left, are seen in the Capitol’s House chamber.
For other newcomers in Congress, a bold fashion choice is a natural extension of their own identity.
Democratic Rep. Debra Haaland (D-NM), one of the first Native American women to be elected to Congress, wore turquoise jewelry and a traditional Pueblo dress and boots to her swearing-in, while Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib wrote about her decision to wear a Palestinian thobe, like the ones her mother hand-made while she was growing up, telling ELLE readers to “show everyone who you are, your heritage and what you stand for.”
Win McNamee—Getty ImagesWASHINGTON, DC – FEBRUARY 05: Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) looks on ahead of the State of the Union address in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives at the U.S. Capitol Building on February 5, 2019 in Washington, DC. Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s religious beliefs made a mark on Congress even before she was sworn in.
When she attended the beginning of the 116th Congress wearing her hijab and swearing in on the Qur’an, Omar became the first member of Congress to wear headwear of any kind during a session, ending a 181-year ban. Omar honored the suffragettes at her swearing-in by wearing all-white, opting for a black manicure, a beauty choice not usually seen in Congress.

No one puts a scarf on my head but me. It’s my choice—one protected by the first amendment.
And this is not the last ban I’m going to work to lift. https://t.co/7U3ZLTaWur
— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) November 17, 2018
These changes have not come without criticism, something that Garelick chalks up to insecurity.
“A lot of these critiques that these younger congresswomen are getting for their clothing or their makeup or their jewelry, is coming from a place of discomfort certain people feel when they encounter an appealing younger woman in the halls of power where they did not expect to find one,” she said.
Take for example, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose style choices — and the ensuing dialogue about them — have gone viral multiple times since she was elected to represent Queens and her hometown of the Bronx.
Two instances stand out in particular, though on different sides of the spectrum; the first, was when conservative journalist Eddie Scarry wrote in a now-deleted tweet about Ocasio-Cortez, “that jacket and coat don’t look like a girl who struggles,” seeming to imply that Ocasio-Cortez’s professional clothes belied her personal story of struggling financially.
Ocasio-Cortez, however, didn’t shy away from the conflict, taking to Twitter to argue that the issues with her clothing actually stem from the idea that “women like me aren’t supposed to run for office — or win.”
If I walked into Congress wearing a sack, they would laugh & take a picture of my backside.
If I walk in with my best sale-rack clothes, they laugh & take a picture of my backside.
Dark hates light – that’s why you tune it out.
Shine bright & keep it pushing.✨ https://t.co/mRq5wn0v9A
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) November 15, 2018
The reason journos from @FoxNews to @dcexaminer can’t help but obsess about my clothes, rent, or mischaracterize respectful convos as “fights” is bc as I’ve said, women like me aren’t supposed to run for office – or win.
& that’s exactly why the BX and Queens sent me here. https://t.co/t7VBLuyZK3
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) November 16, 2018
Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t shied away from openly using and talking about fashion as a way to reach her constituents either. For her swearing-in, she wore an all-white suit, hoop earrings and red lipstick, each of them chosen with careful thought and meaning. As Ocasio-Cortez explained in tweets, the suit was white to honor the female politicians who came before her, like Shirley Chisholm who became the first black woman to ever be elected to Congress in 1968, while the hoop earrings and red lipstick were an homage to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who also hails from the Bronx.
I wore all-white today to honor the women who paved the path before me, and for all the women yet to come.
From suffragettes to Shirley Chisholm, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the mothers of the movement. ⬇️ https://t.co/GBfSSYxbek

Lip+hoops were inspired by Sonia Sotomayor, who was advised to wear neutral-colored nail polish to her confirmation hearings to avoid scrutiny. She kept her red.
Next time someone tells Bronx girls to take off their hoops, they can just say they’re dressing like a Congresswoman. https://t.co/eYN5xYFcTE

As Democratic Rep. Ayanna Presley memorably asked in her victory speech after winning her House seat in September last year, “Can a congresswoman wear her hair in braids, rock a black leather jacket and bold red lip?”
The answer appears to be yes.

State of Play (2009)
Crime, Drama, Mystery |
State of Play is a political thriller film directed by Kevin Macdonald. It is based on the 2003 British television serial of the same name.
The film tells of a journalist’s probe into the suspicious death of a congressman’s mistress. The supporting cast includes Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, Jason Bateman, Robin Wright and Jeff Daniels. Macdonald said that State of Play is influenced by the films of the 1970s and explores the subject of privatization of American Homeland Security and to a minor extent journalistic independence, along with the relationship between politicians and the press. It was released in North America on April 17, 2009. The film received generally positive reviews.
One night, a thief fleeing through Georgetown in Washington, D.C., is shot by a man carrying a briefcase. A deliveryman who witnesses the incident is also shot by the killer and is left in a coma. The following morning, a young woman is killed by a Washington Metro train in what seems to be suicide. Congressman Stephen Collins is distraught to hear that the woman was Sonia Baker, a researcher on his staff. Collins, who has military experience, is leading an investigation into PointCorp, a private defense contractor with controversial operations involving mercenaries. Collins tells his college roommate and old friend Cal McAffrey, an investigative reporter, that he had been having an affair with Sonia and that she had sent him a cheerful video message on the morning of her death, which he says is inconsistent and unusual behavior for someone about to commit suicide.

Two Tracks From New Elton John Tribute Albums Are Surprisingly Good
As we reported a while back, Sir Elton John is planning to hang up the gold lamé for good and retire from performing after one big final tour, which begins in the fall. Dubbed the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, it is scheduled for more than 300 dates over a three-year span, definitely making it one of the longer goodbyes in Rock history, perhaps topped only by The Who’s 35-years-and-counting farewell crusade.
But that’s Elton for you, never lacking for a sense of occasion, and rarely missing a good business opportunity – two traits not always shared by other Rock Legends. So to mark the occasion of his big year he commissioned two tribute albums to himself and co-writer Bernie Taupin, and he got some of today’s biggest pop and country stars to perform on them. Besides, it’s been over 25 years since the last official Elton John tribute album Two Rooms, and god knows the market is ready for another one, right?
youtube
Anyway the two new albums will be called Revamp and Restoration, and will be released on April 6th. Revamp includes some of the biggest artists on the Pop, R&B and Rock scenes today, including Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, The Killers, and Queens Of The Stone Age, while Restoration includes only Country artists. Why would Elton cram different genres onto one album, and make the other one all Country? I’m guessing it was done for commercial as opposed to artistic reasons, but I could be wrong.
youtube
The track listings for the two albums will not get any Rock fan’s heart beating wildly in anticipation, but there could be some pretty interesting takes that work well. They have released one track from each album as a teaser, and surprisingly I thought both were pretty good. Chris Stapleton, who we raved about after an SNL performance earlier this year, does a great job on “I Want Love”, an excellent song from Elton’s best post-Seventies album, 2001’s Songs From The West Coast. And Q-Tip from one of the better hip hop acts A Tribe Called Quest combines talents with Demi Lovato to put an offbeat but groovy new spin on “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”, definitely upgrading the Kiki Dee duet fluffery from 1976.
I’m hoping the rest of the tracks can surprise like these two, but I have my doubts. We shall see. I’m definitely looking forward to Willie Nelson’s take on “Border Song”, and to The Killers doing “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters”.
Revamp Track List
1. “Bennie and the Jets” – Elton John, P!nk, Logic 2. “We All Fall in Love Sometimes” – Coldplay 3. “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” – Alessia Cara 4. “Candle in the Wind” – Ed Sheeran 5. “Tiny Dancer “- Florence And The Machine 6. “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” – Mumford and Sons 7. “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word” – Mary J. Blige 8. “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” – Q Tip feat. Demi Lovato 9. “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters” – The Killers 10. “Daniel” – Sam Smith 11. “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” – Miley Cyrus 12. “Your Song” – Lady Gaga 13. “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” – Queens of the Stone Age
Restoration Track List
1. “Rocket Man” – Little Big Town 2. “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters” – Maren Morris 3. “Sacrifice” – Don Henley and Vince Gill 4. “Take Me to the Pilot” – Brothers Osborne 5. “My Father’s Gun” – Miranda Lambert 6. “I Want Love” – Chris Stapleton 7. “Honky Cat” – Lee Ann Womack 8. “Roy Rogers” – Kacey Musgraves 9. “Please” – Rhonda Vincent and Dolly Parton 10. “The Bitch Is Back” – Miley Cyrus 11. “Sad Songs (Say So Much)” – Dierks Bentley 12. “This Train Don’t Stop” – Rosanne Cash and Emmylou Harris 13. “Border Song” – Willie Nelson
