Reunion
No one from Françoise Dupont High School expected Marinette Dupain-Cheng to walk into the ten year reunion. As far as they knew, she hadn't been invited. Marinette strode in, with her head held high, and walked right up to Lila Rossi.
"I want to thank you for being such a bitch to me, Lila." Mari smiled, "You changed my life for the better."
"E-Excuse me?" Lila questioned.
'There' no way that forcing her out of school and isolating her gave her an amazing life!'
"That whole shit about telling people what they wanted to hear." Marinette began to explain, "I got really tired of defending myself and being told that I had to 'love you' to make you a better person by the staff. I got tired of being stacked with doing shit for free: all that babysitting I never said I would do, the banners, uniforms, clothes, fundraisers! It was exhausting for a fifteen year old."
Mari smiled, "Once you turned everyone against me, I realized how much free time I had! I signed up for homeschooling and worked extremely hard to graduate early. I even skipped a couple grades. It turned out that my husband's family were huge fans of my designs, so they offered to pay for my schooling if I moved."
"Husband?" Lila asked, concerned, "I didn't realize you had gotten married."
"Yeah." Marinette stated, "We met when I was seventeen and got married when I was nineteen; we have two kids."
Lila looked up and down at her arch-rival. Aside from a growth spurt and a larger chest, Marinette didn't look like she had changed at all. She looked like she was in her early twenties!
"So, thank you for bullying me." Marinette continued with a smile, "It was the best thing that could have happened to me."
Lila stayed silent. She didn't know what to say to that. None of her other victims had ever thanked her. She could feel eyes on them. She knew people were listneing in on their conversation. If she started to make a scene, it wouldn't end well.
"We'll, I'm married too!" Announced Lila.
"Oh, congrats." Marinette smiled, "Where is the lucky person?"
Lila spotted a tall, dark, and handsome man walk into the venue.
"There he is." Lila smiled.
Lila watched as her prey came towards them.
'Just a few more feet and I'll be able grab him. I'm sure he wouldn't mind playing along for a few minutes.'
Lila reached out a hand to grab him, when he put his arm around Marinette's waist and kissed her.
"Hello, Habibiti." he spoke.
"Everything okay without us at the company?" Mari asked.
He sighed, "Yes. It was just Grayson being himself."
Marinette giggled, "I'm sorry, Lila. This is my husband, Damian Wayne. Where were you saying your spouse is?"
Lila plastered a smile on her face, "They just stepped out. They had their cellphone out. It must be an important client. We're both models."
'There's no way she is married to this guy! The sooner she leaves, the sooner I can tell everyone I recognize him as an actor.'
Lila couldn't believe her luck. Adrien had just walked though the doors.
'Marinette was obsessed with him for years! Her fake marriage will be exposed and I can get the guy to stay with me. It doesn’t matter how much she paid him. I'm sure I could pay him more.'
"Marinette!" Adrien shouted.
He was quick to run over and hug her, pulling her away from her husband.
"Agreste, put my wife down." Damian growled.
Adrien turned his attention to Damian and froze.
"Hey, Wayne." He smiled, before looking around, "Where are the kids? Where's my neice and nephew?"
'Kids? They're really married and have kids?'
"They're with my parents, Adrien." Mari answered, "I'm sure they're being fed sugar and will pass out soon."
"So, is that an invite?" the model asked.
"To my parent's place for sweets?" Mrs. Wayne questioned, "You live here! They call me like once a week saying you were at the bakery!"
Adrien chuckled, "No. What about my time with the kids?"
Marinette looked to Damian, who shrugged. She turned to Adrien and shot him a look.
"Tell you what, you can see them in two days." she replied, "A whole day with Uncle Adrien."
'Uncle Adrien?'
"Really?" Adrien cried out, happily.
"But, you got to plan it." she answered.
"Disneyland Paris?" the Agreste heir suggested.
"Fine." Marinette growled, "But if you lose one of my kids, again, I will hurt you."
Adrien glanced towards Damian.
"Adrien, if you think my husband is scarier, just because you have seen his sword collection, you're wrong." Marinette Wayne declared, "You lose one of my children, I will hurt you worse than my husband could ever imagine."
"Got it." Adrien smiled, "Plan awesome VIP experience for the kids!"
"Great!" Mari smiled back.
"Man, you moving really toughened you up." the model winced.
"I punched my brother-in-law the first day there because I thought he grabbed my ass." Mrs. Wayne spoke.
"That is still one of my best days ever. No one has underestimated you since." Damian stated, before kissing her head.
"So, what are you doing here?" Adrien questioned, "Didn't you graduate like two years before us?"
"Oh, I just wanted to thank Lila for bullying me and getting me homeschooled." Marinette smiled, "It sucked that she bullied me, at the time, but if she hadn't done that, I wouldn't be with Damian and we wouldn't have our kids."
Adrien quickly turned to Lila, "Thank you for being a bitch to my best friend. I love my niece and nephew. Marinette, do you think we should get her like a fruit basket or something?"
Mari laughed, "We have dinner plans so we're gonna head out. Enjoy the reunion, Adrien."
Adrien took a step back and eyed Marinette's dress. It was a short black bodycon dress with puffy transparent sleeves. He eyed the black heels, warily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Dressed like that?" he questioned.
"Eyes on my wife's face, Agreste." Damian growled.
Adrien rolled his eyes, "She's all yours. I don't think I've ever seen you dressed like this, is all. You think you'll be able to take care of the kids dressed like that?"
Marinette answered, "They are staying with my parents tonight." before walking away.
Adrien watched as Damian placed his hand at Marinette's waist, likely making sure she didn't fall in those heels.
Adrien smiled, evilly, "Hey, Marinette!"
The designer turned to look back at her friend.
"I want another neice or nephew!" he shouted.
Marinette's face morphed from shock to embarassment, before she quickly glared at her best friend. She squeaked as she was quickly lifted into her husband's arms.
"Damian, you put me down!" she snapped at him.
"No." her husband responded.
"Why not?" she growled.
"Adrien won't get his wish if you're in jail for harming him." Damian smirked.
Marinette buried her face in her husband's chest and remained silent.
Adrien laughed as Marinette was carried out of the reunion. Nino walked up to him, confused.
"You….You kept in touch with Mari?" he questioned.
"Of course!" Adrien smiled, brightly, "I helped her with her math sometimes and she talks with Father about designing. She's my best friend."
"Designs?" Rose asked.
"Marinette is a fashion designer in the states." he answered, "Her husband's family runs an international company. She occasionally designs for their clothing line, but they do other stuff, too. Marinette has an office in their building, but she mostly does custom work. I think last year someone asked for a wedding dress. It was around $25,000."
"Seriously?" Alya asked, full of surprise.
"Oh yeah!" Adrien smiled, "She's an amazing deisgner. A lot of her dresses and suits have been coming out on runways and red carpet events."
"You're forgetting that she bullied Lila!" cried Sabrina, "She was mean to her! How can you be friends with her?"
"Actually, it was the other way around." Adrien stated, "Lila once claimed that Mari pushed her, after school, so hard that she injured her knee and was forced to walk home with a limp. I tried to tell you that Marinette couldn't have done it; Marinette had been with me the day before. You told me I was just confused. You never let me speak. You just decided Lila was right."
The class just stared at him.
'Had they really done that? Had they ignored Adrien when he tried to defend Marinette?'
"You never listened to me or Marinette when we told you about Lila being a lying bitch." he shrugged.
"But you're married!" Kim shouted, "How can you choose Marinette over a model?"
"I didn't. I'm bi and dating a male model from my father's company." Adrien announced, "Lila was fired when she was sixteen. Wasn't Lila held back a grade? Why is she even here? You didn't graduate with us or even from this school."
"It was a computer error!" Max spoke up, "Lila said that-
Adrien rolled his eyes, "Her mother called Natalie and declared she was owed a meeting with my father. She said we ruined Lila's future by forcing her to model. She threatened to sue the Gabriel brand until we showed her the 'signatures' on the forms. Turns out, Lila forged those so her mother's hands were tied. Her mother started shouting how she should send her to boot camp, back in Italy, as the left the house."
One by one they turned to look at Lila.
"i-I wanted to see everyone." she whispered, weakly, "I missed my friends."
"Thank for stopping by." Adrien stated, "You can leave now."
"Adrikins!" Chloe shouted.
"Chloe!" Adrien called back, "I missed you. We loved that spa treatment. You're the best!"
Chloe smiled and pulled Adrien away from the rest of the group to socialize with the other students.
"You still talk to that trash?" they heard Chloe ask.
"Rossi?" Adrien questioned, "Nah. You missed Marinette by a couple minutes. She came here and thanked Lila for being a raging bitch. The rest of them were still trying to kiss ass."
"The queen, herself, and I missed it." the Bourgeois heiress teased.
"Date night." Adrien quipped, "She brought Damian and the demon brigade."
"I missed the little ones?" she screeched.
Adrien laughed, "They're with her parents. Better book your time with them before they leave again. Oh, and Mari is already threatening bodily harm if anything happens to them."
"You lost one last time!" Chloe cried.
"I said I was sorry!" Adrien rebutted.
Chloe scoffed, "You're lucky you didn't die that day."
"I know." Adrien sighed, "Would it be weird if I put them on one of those kid leashes? I feel like they would fuck with me and purposely try to get lost to see me sweat, again. Honestly, I don't know if it's a mini Damian or mini Marinette. Don't get me wrong, Damian is frightening and he could probably work in the CIA torture room, but seeing Marinette pissed off, scares the living crap out of me. She's creative and could probably make something specifically to hurt me."
Chloe looked up from her phone, "I bought you the leashes. They'll be here tomorrow. You're welcome."
"Chloe." Adrien replied, "You didn't answer me."
"I was frenemies with her for years, Adrikins." Chloe answered, "Mari will find some way to hurt you and she wouldn't need her godly husband to do it. You have every right to fear for your life for pissing her off. Look at what happened to the idiot brigade: they believed a liar and bullied her. None of their dreams came true. The Waynes own half the companies those idiots wanted to work for. I wouldn't put it past Damian to rat those losers out to his family and have them blacklisted. You have seen how overprotective he is of their kids; he's the same way with her."
"True." Adrine sighed, "He still yells at me when I hug her."
"Idiot." Chloe declared, rolling her eyes.
The class looked at each other before pulling out their phones. They looked up Marinette and the Wayne family. The class shifted nervously as they realized what Chloe had said was true. The Waynes and Marinette owned their jobs. They were all comfortable with their jobs, but they weren't anything to brag about. They had all wanted bigger and better things at thirteen.
None of them were the doctors, rock stars, DJs, journalists, environmentalists, or the Olympians they thought they would be. They worked desk jobs or became something close to what they wanted. Lila knew she would never model again when Gabriel told her that he was going to blacklist her. The Waynes owned everything from food to biolabs to steel to shipbuilding and aerospace. Lila silently left the reunion as everyone came to terms that their dreams ended long ago.

Day 7: Resolve
This is a series written for @madatobiweek.
Madara’s face hurt. He cautiously reached for his cheek and winced when his skin started burning where he touched it. He let his hand sink down on his chest – and cursed when this touch sent an even worse stab of pain through his body. It felt like as if he had been hit by a particularly big boulder and the more of the fog inside his brain vanished, the more he felt his whole body aching. He decided to not move for now and instead try to figure out what was going on. After a while he found that it would be a good first step to open his eyes to see where he was.
Madara held his breath, hoping that this small movement wouldn’t hurt as much, and opened his right eye. Since it didn’t hurt at all, he opened his left eye right after and blinked a couple of times until his vision sharpened. But while did this feel better, it didn’t help with the fact that all he could see was white. It took another moment for him to realize that he was staring at a white wall which somewhat didn’t seem to fit what he had been expecting. He closed his eyes again and started wracking his brain for any indication of what had happened that led to this point. He could remember that he had kneeled on the ground, staring at the stars above him before something had knocked him out cold. He could faintly remember a pale ghost-like silhouette standing not far away from him. A pained scream echoed in his mind and he reached for the vague memories in the back of his mind.
His eyes flew open and whole body tensed up immediately when the memory came back. He gasped for air and reached instinctively for his chest where he had felt the cold, angry bite of the amulet that had been hidden beneath his jacket. But now, he only felt his own skin under his fingers and the rugged fabric of a bandage tied around his chest. He sighed in relief and the sound echoed through the small room.
Something rustled not far away from him and Madara flinched when he heard a familiar voice. “So, you’re finally awake?” Tobirama asked and for a moment, Madara contemplated pretending to still be unconscious. But since that was beneath him, he slowly turned his head to where the voice had sounded from.
Tobirama was sitting on a bed that looked suspiciously like a hospital bed and all at once, all the puzzle pieces fell into place. Madara didn’t even have to look down to know that he was lying in another hospital bed identical to Tobirama’s. He sighed, this time way less relieved, and eyed Tobirama. His face seemed even paler than usual and the red markings on his face glistened like beads of blood. His shoulder and wrist were covered in white bandages and his expression was even more stern than usual.
“I guess so,” Madara muttered, avoiding his gaze. Images of him clawing at Tobirama and throwing a kunai at him danced in his mind and his stomach churned. Once again, Tobirama’s scream when the kunai had pierced his skin echoed in his mind. His skin started crawling when his gaze was drawn to the fine red line slightly below Tobirama’s throat and he couldn’t stop the words from slipping out. “How … how bad is it?”
Tobirama furrowed an eyebrow and Madara tried to return his gaze unfazed but he didn’t seem to be too convincing as something in Tobirama’s face changed. He averted his gaze and shrugged with his unharmed shoulder. “The injuries are mostly superficial. Nothing to worry about.”
Relief surged through Madara’s body and he nodded to himself. The past two days had been like a fever dream and he was only slowly regaining control of his memory. But the more of it came back to him, the more he started seething. He clenched his fists and hissed involuntarily when the sudden movement sent pain jolting through his body. From the corner of his eye, he saw Tobirama looking at him. And just when he thought Tobirama would keep quiet, he spoke up.
“Do you remember what happened?” Tobirama asked, his voice almost suspiciously incidental. And even though Tobirama pretended to be calm, Madara noticed how he kept his eyes glued to him, not entirely capable to hide his tension.
For a moment, he contemplated lying but the hint of red on Tobirama’s bandages didn’t allow him anything else but the truth. And thus, he nodded reluctantly. “I do,” he replied and expected Tobirama to say something but he waited patiently for him to continue. “I … there was something inside my mind.”
Tobirama nodded thoughtfully. “Do you know what it was?” he asked, eyeing Madara attentively.
Madara listened to his inner voice and shrugged faintly. “I’m not sure,” he admitted unwillingly. He was fairly certain that it had been a person of some kind since it hadn’t had any difficulties appearing normal to other people. In fact, Tobirama was the only one who had caught on at all. His face started burning when he remembered how the thing inside his mind had misunderstood Tobirama thoroughly, preparing a picknick instead of the fight Tobirama had meant. While he had screamed in the glass cage inside his mind where the thing had locked him away while taking control of his body, he had been able to watch how Tobirama’s unease had grown with every passing minute. The only good thing about this ordeal had been the fact that he now knew how he could unsettle Tobirama the most – who would’ve thought that simply being nice to him would do the trick?
This thought made him grin to himself and for a moment, he forgot about his rage. This information was useful enough to save it for later. He had the vague inkling that there would come a point where he could use this knowledge to play foul for his own benefit. But until then, he had to face the more urgent question. He shoved his amusement aside and clenched his fists. “Whatever it was, it has bad intentions,” he growled.
Tobirama gave him a slightly haughty look and said, “I figured as much. Do you know what it wanted to do at the Hokage residence?”
Madara decided to ignore his sarcastic tone. After all, the question he proposed was crucial for understanding what the being’s intentions were. It was fair to assume that none of this had been a coincidence and thus, it was absolutely possible that Konoha was in danger. The thought made his stomach churn and he sat up carefully, trying to suppress a pained groan when his chest started hurting again. A quick glance at the enormous bruise forming on his skin confirmed that Tobirama had indeed resorted to destroying the amulet while he had still been wearing it. When he looked up, he saw that Tobirama watched him with an almost guilty look on his face.
“I’m not sure,” he said quickly. “But it was willing to kill you to achieve its goal.”
Tobirama nodded and absentmindedly rubbed his wrist where Madara’s nails had dug into his skin. “Yeah, I learned that the hard way,” he muttered, barely loud enough for Madara to hear it. But then he looked up and gave Madara a mischievous smile. “But like I said, you don’t stand a chance against me.”
For a split second, Madara just stared at him, swaying between anger and surprisingly also laughter. He decided on the middle ground and gave Tobirama a mildly indignant look. “You only won because it wasn’t me you fought against.”
And to his surprise, Tobirama didn’t fire back but just laughed and shrugged. “I guess we’ll have to settle that another time,” he said. “For now, we have a bigger problem.”
And from all he remembered, this was the first time Madara wholeheartedly agreed with Tobirama. The moment passed quickly though as Tobirama’s expression turned even more grave than before. He gave Madara a stern look and he noticed how tense Tobirama seemed all at once. “Do you think it was trying to go after Hashirama?” Tobirama asked and Madara swallowed hard at the thought.
He hesitated for a moment and tried to piece together the memories of what he had seen while it had controlled his body. But all of its actions seemed entirely unconnected and random. After all, he couldn’t think of a reason why else it would try to mollify everyone it had interacted with if not to remain inconspicuous. But now that he thought about it, he did notice that it had been within close proximity of Hashirama twice. First of all, when it had steered his body towards the tea shop, later when at the Hokage residence. “I don’t know,” he admitted reluctantly. “But I do think it’s possible.”
Tobirama’s face took on a fierce expression that sent a shiver down Madara’s spine. “Whatever it is, I won’t allow it to come close to Hashirama ever again,” Tobirama growled, his fists clenched.
Madara nodded slowly. This made the second thing they agreed on. There was no way in hell he would let this being harm either Konoha or Hashirama, not under his watch. But this meant that he not only had to find out what the being was and where it was located but also how to annihilate it so that it didn’t pose a threat to anyone anymore. And even the first step of this plan posed a challenge that he had no clue yet how to tackle.
A thought came to his mind and he muttered more to himself, “The amulet. I have to find out where it came from and who put it on my doorstep.”
Tobirama tilted his head slightly and opened his mouth as if he wanted to ask a question but whatever he wanted to say remained a secret as a creak of the door made them both look up. Madara could only make out a tall silhouette before his view was blocked by a gust of brown hair and light fabric flying past him towards Tobirama’s bed. The last thing he saw was Tobirama’s terrified face before he was buried in a giant bear hug. Madara grinned when he heard Tobirama yelp under his brother’s almost violent affection.
Hashirama let go of him for a second and glanced at Madara, his eyes full of concern. “You’re next,” he warned him before he turned back to his little brother who seemed way less intimidating now that he was half suffocated by Hashirama’s hug.
And when Hashirama started showering Tobirama with questions while simultaneously taking off the bandage on his shoulder to examine his injury, Madara took advantage of the moment and leaned back, closing his eyes. He still felt the skin of his chest burning where the amulet had been until Tobirama had destroyed it. He directed his focus inwards and took a deep breath, rejoicing at the certainty that he was alone in his body again. Throughout the past two days, he had felt like as if he was stuck in an endless void, illuminated only by a faint vision of what his eyes were seeing. And while he had been able to see and hear everything that had happened, there had been an impermeable veil between him and the world around him. And all the time, there had been a cold presence engulfing him, leaving him fighting for air.
Madara shuddered at the memory and rubbed his arms uncomfortably. Now that he was slowly calming down, he could almost sense the same cold he had felt while locked away inside his own mind. It felt almost like as if someone was standing behind him, breathing down on his neck. And while Hashirama’s voice next to him faded away, he heard a soft sound in the distance. Madara held his breath and listened intently. His heart sunk when he heard a faint laughter, slowly but steadily creeping closer. He tried to open his eyes but his body didn’t listen to him anymore. Everything inside him started screaming and he struggled against the invisible bonds holding him back.
And with a desperate gasp, Madara’s eyes flew open and he shot up, his heart thundering in his chest. Hashirama and Tobirama froze, staring at him with wide opened eyes. Madara forced himself to calm his breathing and gave them a half smile, slowly leaning back again. It had been a memory, nothing more, only an echo of what had happened. And when he had finally managed to convince himself of that, he heard a soft chuckle in his ear.
“This is only the beginning.”
To be continued.

This man, David Goggins, has managed the near impossible: universally removing motivation (as a catalyst) leading to accomplishment. His substitute for motivation (meant as 'being in the mood' or creating a mindset to do something) has been replaced simply by an indelible decision to act. His reinforcement along the way is then to remind himself he made the choice and must then act to completion. Remarkable.

mochi's paracosm, part iii - characters
part one (magic) here part two (history) here
okay, so, most of the story in my main time period of resolve involved this character, Kai (drawn by the lovely marylovesyellow.)
Tumblr media
kai is a transmasc vagabond who lives on his starship and travels the stars seemingly without care or purpose. he goes to new places, tries new foods, naps, etc. he appears to have a rather hedonistic life. in reality though, he travels around due to his second identity, the Black Fox.
see, kai is something called a dreamdiver. dreamdivers are INSANELY rare people who have died before, become a spirit, and then come back to the living world in a physical body. they dance the line between life and death as though the line didn't exist at all. one of the gifts of dreamdivers is a natural inclination towards types of weaving that require you to be more in tune with your soul, such as divination.
kai has visions of people in danger in the future, either from physical harm, illness, misfortune, etc., and he travels to people he can help in the form of the Black Fox, an entity which most people believe to be a sacred, angered spirit who helps those in need. kai doesn't realize they're actually correct--he doesn't realize he's a spirit. he just knows he has visions of people who need help, and he wants to help them.
this results in him clashing frequently with the Barons, rich and pompous humans who control the technology industries and take advantage of everyone else. most technology in the galaxy is a human invention, so barons can have quite the monopoly. his identity as the black fox is kept secret to avoid complications.
he's also a master thief, but shhhhhhh.
Tumblr media
this is xiih'ren, another dreamdiver, and one with a lot of secrets. he's despised and shunned, known infamously as the Endwhisperer. He's usually seen keeping unusually docile endcryers for company, leading many to believe he's an omen of death, if not death himself.
he's the type of character who's been called and treated like a monster for so long that he's stopped caring and leans into his reputation, using fear and threats to get what he wants such as free food.
he seems to have a fondness of kai for some reason.
Tumblr media
this is raeu (artist is marylovesyellow again). he's a guy with a dangerous amount of secrets, as well. he's known to most as a reclusive, mad-genius inventor, and he doesn't let a lot of people close to him.
in secret he's actually the head of a syndicate of warriors who specialize in saving and protecting people in danger. if someone isn't safe in their present living situation, he arranges for them and anyone they care about to be relocated somewhere safer, and he gives them the means to stay afloat and protect and provide for themselves.
his warriors also have another, even more secret mission however: to locate his sister.
Tumblr media
this is taephyn (artist is teteda.) taephyn seems to be raeu's right hand man, as well as a close friend of kai. he keeps tabs on kai and makes sure kai is alright, and he provides support when needed. he starts traveling with kai (much to kai's discomfort), and eventually he learns kai's secret and helps him keep it and pull off missions.
he's very affectionate, teasing, and a bit of a worrywart. his connections to raeu's syndicate prove exceptionally useful at times as he helps the main party on their quest, but he's mostly there to support kai.

this is kari, a calico fox (art by marylovesyellow again [i know, i rarely draw my own ocs, artblock is a bitch].)
kari is the curious, motherly figure in the main party. she's skilled in cooking, herbal medicine, physical therapy, and talk therapy. she takes it upon herself to make sure the group is well fed, healthy, and happy, even when some people (kai) would rather be left alone to sulk.
she's curious and inquisitive, and often asks questions that get the rest of the group thinking. she LOOOOVES tofu, and she really wants to train with a hunter clan, but she can't decide which one.

this is fumiko (marylovesyellow again, yes i adore this artist, go praise them). fumiko is a treasure hunter and avid troublemaker. extremely inquisitive and smart, fumiko is usually the one who comes up with theories and hypotheses about the situations the party finds themselves in. they're the optimistic and sincere heart of the party, with a strong sense of morals despite their at-times questionable profession. they are, however, unable to weave, and their dream is to become a great treasure hunter who uses amazing weaving skills to get the job done. though they're a bit of a passionate amateur, they would still occasionally get jobs from people to find treasures from that people's culture and help them protect these treasures from thieves.
fumiko catches sight of kai using some form of weaving that they've never seen before, and they practically glue themselves to kai's side and *beg* him to teach them weaving. he eventually ends up dragging the rest of the party on an adventure to discover what happened to the dragons of myth and how the dragons taught others to weave.
