the fact that you tagged one of my posts as Elves are catholic gives me life
Hooray!! Elves are also life bringers!!!!
I should probably add that I’m the Elf in all of my “ElvesAre…” tags. But it’s awesome when it lines up with Tolkien Posts. (My usual tag for those is ElvesAreActuallyHobbits. Obviously. 😂)

Sorry to make you relive that. Happy birthday, I guess?
No worries!! The whole point of trauma counseling is so that you can recover from reliving it live, so to speak. It's not something I enjoy talking about, but on the other hand, I love talking about how the Church Triumphant touches our lives in big and small ways all the time. A lot of people would just shrug it off, or say that the voice I heard was this or that other non-supernatural thing. I've seen too much happen during Lent while working with the Church. I believe. And I believe I'm supposed to help others believe. And, yes, Happy Birthday! I woke up today "Oldy and Moldy" according to a nine-year-old niece.
I'm fifty.

How are elves Catholic?
(Unrelated from checking the description on your profile) You do genealogy?
#ElvesAreCatholic because…
I’m Elf Puddle (first name: Elf, last name: Puddle), and I’m Catholic. 😁
I have done genealogy, but not in a hot minute.
The Puddles are from that swath of Europe from Switzerland north to Eastern Europe, Russia, Germany, and up to Nordic countries. But in our modern society, #ElvesAreRussian and #ElvesAreGerman are not things people get rewarded for saying, y’know? More Recently, as in until the Great Depression, the Puddles are farming people from the American Great Plains. I was an Army Brat, born in North Carolina and lived in a lot of places before “coming back” to the Plains where my soul is happiest. I’ve visited some of the places the Puddles are from, but I’d love to see more!

On her feast day, I must ask, Auntie Elves: how did Saint Joan save your life?
Good morning, John, and happy Feast Day!! (DON'T READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ABOUT DEATH AND NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES. YOU CAN TELL FROM THE QUESTION THAT THAT'S WHAT THE ANSWER WILL CONTAIN!!)
So, It was 1989, the Lent before I was Confirmed, and the Spring before my seventeenth birthday. It was one of the decades of post-Vatican II silliness (and I mean no disrespect to Vatican II! I'm referring to the silliness of the laity and the "Spirit of Vatican II" that did so much damage to catechesis and Catholics, not to the actual goings-on of the Council). And when I say there was damage to catechesis, well, this was my Junior year in High School, I was weeks away from being Confirmed, and I fully believed that I was going to be the first female priest and NOT A ONE OF MY CATECHISTS OR PRIESTS OR NUNS TOLD ME NO OR EXPLAINED WHY NOT!!! (I've since fixed my damage, but there we were.)
With a group of five or six Seniors, and the mother of one of them, our French teacher (I was in French III, they in French IV). We joined up with some twenty or thirty other kids from across the US and went to France. We stayed four or so days in Paris, then stayed with a Parisian family for four or so more days, then toured Versailles, Omaha Beach, Rouen,...it was supposed to be exciting and amazing. So one of our Paris nights, our little group, led by Madame (who had lived in Paris as a younger woman), went to Notre Dame. Some half-understood reflex led me to light a candle under St. Jeanne's statue. We left Notre Dame around 7PM or so, and went for a tour on the Bateaux-Mouche, the tour boats of the Seine. Imagine the classic double decker red bus of London, but without the red. The bottom deck is mostly just filled with folding chairs and a small inside viewing room whose walls are solid windows with sliding glass doors. Upper deck is full of folding chairs.
When we got on the boat, a voice in my head not only convinced me to not sit on the front edge, where my group had headed, but made me make them sit in the back row with me. It wasn't a voice I ever use to talk to myslef, but it was a girl's voice.
As we approached a bridge, we saw that there was a barge parked under the bridge without any lights or reflectors. We rammed it hard. The first three rows of chairs were crushed. I turned to look behind me as a gentleman tried to get out of the inside room's doors. The boat rocked and the doors cut off his head. I learned later that the screaming woman next to him was his new bride and they'd been on their honeymoon.
It took hours beofre the police arrived. Hours of being on the rocking boat with more than one dead body in a foreign country with a teacher who had suddenly lost her shit. We barely made it to the metro in time to catch the last train back to the hotel.
Later, when we were in Orleans and Rouen, there was such a familiar sense of being near the Maid's relics, armour, statuary...I knew in a way I cannot explain that it was her voice I'd heard, just as ishe heard the voices of other saints. I never saw her, but she saved my life. I was born on Memorial Day, the day to honor those who died with their boots on, so to speak, and on the feast of a young lady who led men into battle in order to save even more. I don't know why she saved me, but St. Joan reached out and kept me from death without keeping me from trauma. I've been through a lot of counseling to even be able to get on a boat without melting down. I hope that Our Lord has used my suffering to help those who suffer even more, or to prevent more trauma.
I lived, I came home, I was Confirmed Joan Catherine (nobody even told me I shouldn't have two Confirmation saints! Catherine of Alexandria, Joan's Catherine, is my other, and not just because I was named for a different, much weaker Catherine). I've become much better catechized, and now my whole vocation is to catechize others. I pray that St. Joan will continue to have a hand in my life.

About Olivia’s dud of a birthday party,
@charmandersims replied:
Tumblr media
@phoebe-twiddle said, “oh no D:”,
@sushigal007 replied, “Oops”, and
@grimbunnies said, “‘Real dud’ feels like an understatement...”
It was an awful playsession. I really, really really, REALLY did not want to hit save. I did, and it hurt me deeply. And then, in response to Alec’s birthday party,
@grimbunnies said, “ Gideon, NO “
I couldn’t agree more. During my time with the hood so far, Kitty has tried to hop into bed/hot/tub/whatever with, in no particular order, Bea, Brian, Billie, Ollie, Francine, a random townie whose name I’ve forgotten, Griffin, George, and Gideon. Hers is a death I’m sort of looking forward to. There’ll be less drama, for sure! Thank you for following along on the journey. I’m sorry for all the damage they’re doing to us all. I think @grimbunnies summed it up better than I could:

@charmandersims isn’t the only one who was concerned about all the death, especially young death, in Robin River this past round. I certainly was. Maybe you were too? I started playing them on an in-game winter Monday. The next Sunday, Bruno and Agnes died, and every one of the ten game days since, at least one sim or pet has died. Twice, three have died on the same day. As of this posting, Jenny’s cheated death by old age four times, and Helena’s done the same three times; that isn’t going to last much longer I’m sure. Granted, I started out with eighteen elder sims and pets, so that’s going to be most of the death. But Billie? Francine?
Tumblr media
I do have “real sickness” as well as @midgethetree‘s “death by childbirth”. Francine is a victim of the former and Billie of the latter.  I’ve never had a sim die of sickness before. They always get enough rest, take their medicine, and have their comfort soup. Francine refused to do any of it. I’d send her to nap on the couch, and she’d play with the dogs. I’d tell her to take a bubble bath, and she’d jump out, cough, and then play with Peaseblossom. She literally died on her way upstairs to take the medicine Thor made. Before this, I’ve had two sims try to die by childbirth, but other sims pleaded with the Grim Reaper and won. Not so with Billie. Honestly, my game is usually not so filled with death. I guess it’s a combination of factors, and I’m not sure whether to be amused by the misfortune or to wonder who cursed the Huckleberries. In a dark humor sort of way, I guess we can celebrate with/for @episims...it looks like there won’t need to be a lot of townification of distant relatives to get the hood to just a few playable households? Provided they keep the birth rate low, of course. And, *side-eyes ROS*, provided I can not roll a lot of adoptions.

The meta-post addition. When last I replied and answered, I mentioned (some of) the drama that Kitty’s caused.
@charmandersims said: “And yet Kitty is a family sim 😂 Never would have expected this much drama from her, and yet here she (is)”. Right!? She’s Family/Pleasure, but her traits include “inappropriate” and “evil” as well as “hopeless romantic”. I don’t know if those were chosen or rolled by @grimbunnies, but thanks to @hexagonal-bipyramid‘s traits mods, and the high ACR setting Kitty had when I opened the game... It’s just a mess. I absolutely love the traits mods, and how they change play. It really makes for unique characters that I wouldn’t have chosen or created.

When Molly Mae died, @grimbunnies said: “I am relieved Erinella was able to save her!”
Me, too! Not just because she’s too young, but with four toddlers, Gideon needs help, especially since Erinella sleeps all day! When the youngest three of those kids became toddlers, and soiled their party diapers together, @tamtam-go92 said: “Haha classic triplets move xD (My neighbors had triplets and told me they would always haver their diapers filled at the same time xD)”    That’s hilarious! My mom ran a neighborhood daycare. We had a set of twins who would help each other climb to places neither one could get to on their own. Mom found them on top of the dryer reaching for the bleach one day. Kids! They almost supernaturally know what they shouldn’t do, or what would be hardest for us! *shakes head in both admiration and admonishment*

Dante doesn’t remember the wedding quite like Philippa does, and so @grimbunnies had a warning for him: “I feel bad for Phil, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t need or want pity. Whatever happens, Philippa is going to come out on top. Dante should be very afraid to get caught, I think.” I’m looking at their traits and aspirations at the moment, (Him: family-oriented, genius, great kisser, nurturing, natural cook, Romance/Grilled Cheese. Her: dramatic, genius, lucky, supernatural skeptic, artistic, Family/Popularity.) and I’m pretty sure that the only thing I can say should just be something close to

@grimbunnies, if I had an award for “Most Likely to Respond”, you would get it. I don’t, but this post is all for you, and anyone you spoke for!
When we saw Billie’s discomfort, you said, “Little half-sibling for Philippa’s child. XD Dante’s having another baby!”
I really hope you’re right, and that it’s “baby”. Singular. Because as a triplet herself, I’m sort of wary of what she’ll do to my game.
When Annika teenified, you said, “And so, my youngest is now a teenager <3″
She is, indeed. And looking rather dashing in that outfit. I’m sure both of her parents approve of the “I will wear whatever I want, thank you very much! look! And, on James’ memorial post, you said, “One of my favorite images from my entire time with the legacy is that picture of Gideon and James” Mine, too. That goofy look on Gideon’s face is just priceless, and the angle is wonderful! Thanks for commenting!!

@charmandersims replied to my last replies post, “Gideon will find someone who isn’t a lesbian when he ages up I’m sure”
He’s sure hoping so! It’ll be easier to get heirs for the legacy that way!! @grimbunnies said, in response to report cards at the main house, “I’m glad Philippa and Sloane are doing better in school.” I’m not exactly a passive Watcher, and as a former teacher, I insist that all my sims make top marks at all levels, unless the story demands otherwise!
About Bruno’s death,
@charmandersims said, “My little baby 😭”    and @grimbunnies added, “ </3 I know Grim’s coming for all of them… except Erinella (unless you have a vampire aging mod in)… but it’s going to hurt every time. “ I really wanted to start that post with “And so it begins” because there are so. many. elders. in Robin River, but that seemed more insensitive than naming Ash “Flame”. But seriously, yes, there’s going to be a lot of pain for a little bit. Here’s to some happy, or at least funny, things as well! And, yes, I do have a vampire (and zombie) aging mod (Thank you, @midgethetree  !!) but I’m not using it in Robin River. Erinella will be around for my whole round...unless the game decides otherwise... About Agnes’ death, @grimbunnies said, “She was Ash’s perfect match. He must be heartbroken, the poor love. And their boys, too.” Yes, they’re all torn up. Some of them are reacting better than others. @grimbunnies doesn’t, apparently, believe Philippa when she said Gideon wasn’t going to end up like their moms, replying, “ I think Gideon may have different plans… “
Tumblr media
Brian and Kitty’s reaction to Bea’s death left @grimbunnies with only two words, “Oh Watcher...” Can I say, without spoiling anything, that Kitty is driving me crazy with her inappropriate trait? I know I’m not the only one!!!
As for Mark’s death, @grimbunnies lamented, “Poor Mark was kept out of the family for a long time. He only really got to be part of things near the end, and even that was rocky for a while.”
I feel badly for all of the aunts, uncles, and cousins (etc.) that Philippa doesn’t have a good relationship with, because they’re going to get less lovely goodbyes. @valiantlydecadentsuit asked, “Which Sims is this?” Sims 2 is the only one I play. I used to play The Sims (now known as Sims 1), but it’s been decades. I’ve never touched 3 or 4, and never really wanted to. Sims 2, however, is a serious addition of mine.

@charmandersims said, “<3″ and @grimbunnies said, “I’m really liking your approach, viewing the family through Philippa’s eyes. And I was so thrilled when she rolled supernatural skeptic for so many reasons. It was perfect!” in response to my rambling here.  @tamtam-go92 said, “ I love how you write Philippa as she’s refusing to accept anything supernatural despite everything tha’s going on in her fam xD" Thank you!   All three of you are very kind!! I’m glad you’re happy with the story thus far, and that you appreciate my stumbling through the writing. I like writing from an unreliable narrator’s point of view for a lot of reasons, but one is the disconnect between what the audience reads and what they know. (Like Makena’s baby, for instance.) (Another is that if I screw up canon, you can just blame the unreliability! :D)
Regarding my damaged reaction to a walkby, @grimbunnies helpfully said, “ Jordan does kind of look like Brandi, tbh”. I didn’t realize how much the bun changed her look until then. And now I have to keep it for my own amusement. Perhaps Duncan was a Broke?

tamtam-go92 replied to Alec’s promotion,
Is this normal game behavior? =_= Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve seen it once or twice, but only a little more rarely than I’ve seen any “x pulled strings” notice. I just chalk it up to miscoding of people and such on Eaxis part, and shrug it off.
grimbunnies said, in response to Philippa’s date,
I love Philippa and Dante <3
Me too! Here’s to it lasting a while!
grimbunnies replied to Gideon’s date,
Gideon… Stop trying to date a lesbian lol XD
There aren’t a whole lot of straight girls to be found...so he’s doing the best he can! (Rumors that there was a cut scene of Clarissa and Annie sharing a First Kiss are completely unfounded. I never took that picture!)                                    I hope you’re all enjoying the game as much as I am!
