My favorite solo from each main character on glee (because why not)

SUE: Vogue. “WILL SCHUESTER I HATE YOU”

KURT: Rose’s Turn. Chris Colfer rarely got songs that highlighted ALL his vocal strengths. This song used everything. He had a strong head voice, an amazing mix, and he can EMOTE WITH EVERY INCH OF HIS LIFE. No wonder he got the Golden Globe.

QUINN: This Is A Man’s World. This scene is ridiculous, but out of context the song absolutely slaps. Diana can BELT and she deserved to do it more.

ARTIE: Stronger. Probably my favorite Britney song. Kevin ate. That is all.

PUCK: Only the Good Die Young. This song is so fun and I think Puck’s voice is very underrated. A good ol’ jam. Thank you for repping the Jewish community king ❤️

WILL: Sway. It’s a shame that we never talk about his voice because HOLY SHIT MATTHEW MORRISON IS INCREDIBLE. This man is so talented and we never acknowledge it because of Will Schuester’s shenanigans.

BLAINE: Somewhere Only We Know. You can hate Blaine all you want but you can’t deny the POWER of this song. The love in his eyes is sickening I am not okay right now

FINN: I’ve Gotta Be Me. Given the fact that Cory didn’t have any singing experience before, this song makes me so fucking happy because you can see how much he had grown as a singer, but also how proud he was of himself! Look at him go!!! (Bonus: If I’m bending the rules in terms of what qualifies as a solo I would 100% make his Paradise By the Dashboard Light. That was his undoubtedly his very best vocal performance. It’s SO FUCKING GOOD it makes me go batshit.)

RACHEL: My Man. “She may be difficult but boy can she sing.”

BRITTANY: Run the World. The dancing is definitely the more impressive part of this number, but it still sounds great! This song really highlighted Heather’s strengths, when most of her songs weren’t very memorable in my opinion.

MIKE: Cool. Maybe Tina should be a professional vocal coach because damn look at him go!! Idk why an Asian kid wanted to play the role of a leader of a white supremacist group but at least he sounds great 🤷‍♀️

MERCEDES: I Will Always Love You. Literally every single Mercedes song is perfect, so this was the hardest one for me. This means I had to base it on acting. And she DELIVERS here. It should be illegal to be this talented.

TINA: Because You Loved Me. The fact that this is one of TWO solos that Jenna actually got to finish infuriates me. She was ROBBED because she is an amazing singer.

SANTANA: Nutbush City Limits. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, MISS NAYA RIVERA. HOLY SHIT. Finn saying before the song, “They say that true divas aren’t really mortal” is so true. This woman was an absolute icon and I will always be blown away by her talent.

JAKE: Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself). It’s so EARNEST and HEARTFELT and Jacob Artist popped off with the acting. And the falsetto!! God it’s just beautiful.

EMMA: Getting Married Today. This is a trio, not a solo, but it’s so fucking good that I HAD to do it. That is literally one of the hardest female songs on Broadway, and for some reason they had Jayma sing it even FASTER than the original version? I can’t imagine the stress of trying to do that, but she was perfect.

SAM: Copacabana. This is just a really fun song! Everyone’s having a good time and Chord sounds amazing.

RYDER: Your Song. This is my favorite Elton John song, and boy was it done justice. The acting is really good in this scene. The mix of anxiety and earnestness coming from Ryder is adorable. He had great chemistry with whoever that girl was. (On a storyline note, I hated how this all developed though. If it had gone my way, Unique would confess it was her, then Ryder would sing this directly to Unique.)

KITTY: Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours. I just really like this number. Obsessed with Becca’s high notes.

MARLEY: Wrecking Ball. The cheating storyline with Bree was so fucking stupid and shouldn’t have happened. That being said, Melissa ATE what they gave her and left zero crumbs. She really came in like a wrecking ball.

UNIQUE: I Know Where I’ve Been. THIS SONG MAKES ME GO FUCKING CRAZY!!! THE TRANS CHOIR!!!! THE ACTING!!!!! THE FUCKING HIGH NOTE!!!!!! IT’S JUST SO GOOD I CAN’T HANDLE IT!!!!!!! This is the best part of season 6, full stop. THE most underrated Glee song ever. I will not accept criticism towards this opinion.

I’m still mourning the death of Mike’s character and getting over that “love at first sight” corn ball speech that was a back hand smack to Will… yet I found myself looking at the updated Byler slides and find myself starting to get delusional about season 5 theories hahaha. I guess all that queer coding that turns into queerbaiting writing works at keeping me somehow invested! Lots of queer pain is manageable if there’s even a minimal chance at queer love. That’s how shitty pop culture is at gay rep at this point.

once again, putting this all under a cut because. Long

jonnymike deathtrap au is. a very self indulgent project i need to finish, but to try to summarize a deeply and stupidly complicated premise as best as i can, it's a crossover of three different pieces of media? through dumb circumstances me and @firstmatedville wrote a self indulgent crossover where mike nelson (of mystery science theater 3000) and jonny d'ville (of hit band the mechanisms) fell in love and had an epic romance. and then i decided to cross that over with my favorite play, deathtrap, which is a gay murder mystery about a playwright and his ingenue murdering his wife. it is So Much Fun and ransom's been yelling at me to finish and i am so sorry i haven't yet

MICHAEL. (Gestures to the body, almost proud.) Right on the rug. You can’t fault me for neatness.

JOEL. Mickey… What have you done.

MICHAEL. Exactly what I intended, my love.

JOEL. Don’t call me that.

MICHAEL. Why ever not, dear?

JOEL. You— Who are you?

MICHAEL. I’m the same person I’ve always been.

JOEL. No. No. You are a stranger to me, Mickey. (MICHAEL steps away from the body to come comfort her husband, but JOEL scrambles backwards with an aborted sob.) Get away from me.

MICHAEL. (Holds up hands in surrender.) As you wish. (Moves back to JONATHAN’S body, rotating his corpse so it’s parallel with the long side of the rug. Begins to roll the carpet over him, but pauses.) Your heart seems to have taken it.

JOEL. But for how long? When the police start asking questions, when his family comes knocking, what happens then?

MICHAEL. No one will know. (Keeps rolling up the body into a little corpse carpet taco.) Listen, once I get the ball rolling with this new script, we’re gonna take a long vacation, far from anywhere, a place where you can stay and rest, and where I can take care of you. A little cabin in the mountains, maybe.

JOEL. What, so you can kill me too?

MICHAEL. Why ever would I do such a thing? I did this—all of this—for you.

next up, disability rep!! i'm not sure i have any wips with that rn beyond what background disability i include in all my characters, but i did just publish a where or when fic that talks about a character's (non-canonical unfortunately) disability! linked here

third, the inspiration behind roses!! i am a certified autistic gayboy that hyperfixated on jaws upon watching it in october of 2020 and decided that the main characters martin brody and matt hooper had Something kinda homoerotic going on and also Latched Onto Hooper like a barnacle. so i wanted to do an examination of like. queer sexuality and disability and mental health in the 1970s. because both of these are characters with troubled pasts who are Going To End Up Mega Traumatized. and i wanted to examine what their lives might be like after the events of the movie!! i can go more in depth if you want later, but that's the basic gist :)

fourthly, juno in herronimus!! and his mysterious habit of disappearing!! i don't really have a passage that exemplifies this, so i'll just tell you about him!! idk how much nat's told you about the story, but juno's whole deal is that he's unstuck in time! in the flashback, he disappears because he's tried to make a deal with the main antagonist and instead gets swallowed by it and transformed into a bird, and he remains in that form for about twenty or thirty years until someone breaks him free and he becomes a Teenager again. so he's got a lot of memory issues and tends to wander off and not quite be grounded all the time bc he's like. All Knocked Out Of Time. and i care him Very Deeply

fifth!! fifhtly!! i think there's one character in stopsign junction i haven't talked about yet, which is an as yet unnamed rapscallion who has a bit of An Agenda. they're not evil, per se? but they're very possessive and distrusting and kind of want theo for themself, and when he doesn't work with them when they want they get Real Weird about it. big goth androgyny vibes, but this character is also subject to change bc i'm not Super set on them

aaaaaand finally, spytown!! spytown is mostly a published series/au that i've been working on with my beloved spytuals (@/szollibisz, @/considerablecolors, @/owen-not-carvour, @/teethworm, etc.) that's a crossover of spies are forever with hadestown. i left off in the middle of a fic where curt!orpheus and owen!eurydice meet, and it so so gentle (music!! love!! domesticity!!) but i just lost steam on it? series is available to be read on my ao3 here

Just the fact that you do the WOD with the RX WEIGHT does not give you the right to post your WOD as RX. If there were other exercise elements in the WOD.....Such as Pull-Ups/Dips/Sit-Ups/Box Jumps/ or even simple American KBS....if you did not do every rep with proper Range of Motion Virtuosity, then you are not being truthful to claim that you did RX. More importantly, those athletes who did the WOD with virtuosity but didn’t finish as quickly as the person who did partial reps will feel that they were cheated. Don’t be a cheater. Believe me, EVERYBODY KNOWS.

Big Mike had his 2nd CrossFit workout today. Probably not 1 in 5 first-timers returns for the 2nd visit. Thereafter the odds decline. A total of 10 visits over ANY span of time are probably fewer than 5% of visitors. A new visitor has about a 1 in 100 chance of becoming a long term attendee like many of you. That is in spite of offering spontaneous life-time free memberships, free unique LHCF T-Shirts, free water, free beer, Thursday wine and snack tastings, the best community camaraderie, the most experienced coaching staff in the region, and certifiably the most outrageous picnic’s and Christmas parties imaginable. As Coach Glassman said, “CrossFit is for anybody, but it’s not for everybody”. Pray for Big Mike.

'Surrender': Conservatives unleash rage at Johnson over spending deal

While one Republican isn't ruling out a motion to boot the speaker, others are infuriated and ready to cause problems ahead of two looming funding deadlines.

Speaker Mike Johnson is trying to quell the most significant conservative rebellion he’s faced since taking the gavel.

His right flank is furious over a deal on overall spending levels he struck with Democrats — looking to avoid a partial government shutdown that would start next week — that largely resembles the bipartisan agreement former Speaker Kevin McCarthy reached with President Joe Biden last year.

During a closed-door conference meeting on Wednesday, Johnson walked his conference through the topline agreement he negotiated with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer. He defended the deal, warning that he didn’t see Republicans gaining more leverage by shutting down the government.

Privately, he’s indicated he doesn’t want to go down that path, despite some members pushing to do so absent additional border security policies. Raj Shah, Johnson’s spokesperson, posted on X that he had spoken with President Joe Biden and urged him to “use his executive authority to secure the southern border.”

But Johnson’s pitch didn’t sell the most volatile faction of his conference. Conservatives have harangued the speaker both in closed-door meetings and publicly on social media since congressional leaders announced the deal. And that criticism is mounting, underscoring that even though most aren’t ready to oust him they are increasingly disenchanted with a leader they thought would fight for conservative priorities.

“Before we could even get together, he announced the terms of the surrender,” said Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), telling reporters that he was leaving Wednesday’s conference meeting early because he didn’t want to listen to more “drivel.”

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), another Freedom Caucus member, added that “our entire situation makes no sense.”

“He is doing the best that he can. … [But] I think he’s getting bad advice from some of his staff,” Donalds said, adding that he thought“members are not really being talked to and consulted.”

Johnson pleaded with members to voice their disagreements during the closed-door meetings rather than airing their frustrations on social media. And Republicans took him up on it, using the open mic session to sound off against the deal.

Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told Johnson during the conference meeting what he “should have done” on the spending deal, according to one individual familiar with the meeting. Johnson, a former member of Jordan’s panel, replied that he “channeled his inner Jim Jordan” and made demands, according to a different House Republican, but that he wasn’t able to get everything they wanted given the thin House GOP margins.

Johnson’s most vocal critic, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), wasn’t at Wednesday’s conference meeting after getting delayed in Iowa. Roy, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, warned publicly this week that he considers an attempt to oust Johnson “on the table.”

No other Republican has publicly embraced that call, including the eight who helped boot McCarthy last year.

Newly elected Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good (R-Va.) brushed off questions about using the hardball tactic, saying he doesn’t “know anyone who doesn’t support [Johnson] personally.” Asked if the speaker should be fired, Davidson, another Freedom Caucus member, instead said that he “should never have been hired.”

Johnson shrugged off Roy’s criticism on Wednesday.

“Chip Roy is one of my closest friends. … What I’ve talked with him about is the reality of what is soon to be the smallest majority in the history of the Congress,” Johnson said. “We are going to advance the ball … and we are going to demonstrate that we can govern well.”

And Johnson’s allies are projecting confidence that his speakership is safe, even as Republicans face near-constant questions about his grip on the job.

“I think people can say what they want. I think the reality is nobody wants to go through another speaker campaign,” argued Rules Committee Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.), a nod to the three-week chaos the conference suffered in October, that finally ended with Johnson’s election by a unanimous GOP.

But even if the right flank isn’t ready to oust another speaker, he’s losing support. His conservative critics say they specifically elected him because they thought he’d fight for their priorities, and they’ve felt betrayed by his willingness to strike deals with Democrats — something Johnson’s allies argue is just a reality of governing when the other party controls the Senate and the White House."

The lawyer for an anonymous whistleblower has renewed his client's claim that Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders altered and withheld public records in connection to her office's spending habits. Attorney Tom Mars, in a letter sent to state Sen. Jimmy Hickey, provided client testimony and supporting documents for a request for a legislative audit. Hickey last month asked the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee to investigate the purchase of a $19,000 lectern by Sanders' office. He also asked the committee to scrutinize the "retroactive shielding of several government records after Sanders signed additional Freedom of Information Act exemptions into law this month after a special legislative session," according to The Arkansas Advocate. "I have seen a copy of the letter you sent to Sen. Wallace and Rep. Gazaway, Chairpersons of the Legislative Joint Audit Committee," Mars wrote, "requesting an audit of the following matters: (1) the purchase of a podium or lectern from Beckett Events LLC for the use of the Governor's Office; and (2) all matters, involving the Governor or the Governor's Office, made confidential by Section 4(a) of Act 7 of the First Extraordinary Session of 2023.""Does item (2) in your request encompass any documents that were: (a) altered by the Governor's Office before being produced in response to a request for copies of public records made pursuant to the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act ("FOIA") and (b) non-exempt documents that were knowingly withheld from production under the FOIA at the direction of the Governor's office?" The letter adds that Mars' client, a "witness with firsthand knowledge of these matters," can "provide clear and convincing evidence of those occurrences to the Legislative Joint Audit Committee."Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison blasted Sanders and her father, Mike Huckabee — the former governor of Arkansas — over the alleged scandal. "Her daddy is Mike Huckabee," Harrison wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "She lied every day to the press on behalf of Trump … who on this spinning blue ball called Earth is surprised that Sarah is as crooked as a barrel of fish hooks?!"

Luis Arráez 🇻🇪

Luis Sangel Arráez (San Felipe, Venezuela, April 9, 1997), has been drawing attention with his amazing hitting ability, since his MLB debut in 2019, he has not stopped doing great things, leaving his mark at a young age with his style to dominate the game.

One of his greatest virtues is his plate discipline, with an incredible ability to read pitches. He can make solid contact both inside and outside the strike zone, with incredible speed, he can achieve the desired outcome with his hits. Very few players in the current times can be compared to Luis Arraez. Although he may not have the power of players like Aaron Judge or Mike Trout, he is an iconic player who never gives up easily. He is a headache for pitchers, and many would love to have him on their team.

Moreover, in several advanced statistics, he ranks at the top, with numbers that haven't been seen since 2015. It came as no surprise that he became the 2022 American League batting champion with the Twins, boasting an impressive .316 batting average. His perseverance and discipline have propelled him to the top of the MLB.

Despite making his debut in 2019, I focused on his last two seasons (2021-2022) to assess his consistency as a starter in the team and anticipate what is to come in the 2023 season.

1- Hits

Overall stats for both seasons:

0.305 AVG

0.764 OPS

10 Home Runs and 91 RBI

During 2021 and 2022 seasons he faced 4388 pitches, with 10 different types of pitches, the most were Four-seam Fastball with 38.72%, followed by Sinker with 16.61%.

In the chart above, we can observe that the majority of his hits were achieved with Four-seam Fastball(42,14%).

He was able to make the most hits in the center zone, showcasing a strong presence within the strike zone, he also knows how to surprise on the outside, there were 66 hits connected outside the strike zone.

He received the highest number of pitches in the upper left corner (410 pitches), most of the throwed balls were Four-seam Fastball of which 10 hits were able to connect Arraez in that area.

In the Count chart, we can see in detail his favorite pitch to hit and in which count situation. He connected the most hits in a 0-0 count, with 17 hits.

Now, we will examine every hit he made during those two years (299 hits) to analyze the pitch type and the resulting outcome (1B, 2B, 3B, HR)

25% went to the left side of the field, 37% to the center and 38% to the right side.

126 hits with Four-seam Fastball, the pitch velocity was an average of 94 mph over the two seasons.

Arraez was only able to make contact 35 times out of 532 Changeup pitches, 9 hits from 278 Curveball pitches and 28 hits from 376 Cutter pitches. Just to name a few pitch types that make it difficult for him to get a hit. We will see more detail about this in the next section.

His hit location is well distributed around the field, an excellent domain for putting hits on the opposing side, what makes him an unpredictable hitter.

2- Plate Discipline

In the chart above, we can observe the Strike % per count and strikes by zone( for both charts i take into account the called strikes and swinging strikes).

Arraez struggles to get hits in the upper part of the strike zone, which makes sense for this chart since he received a significant number of strikes in that area, primarily Four-seam Fastball.

Arraez's strikeout percentage is remarkable, as he has only been struck out 91 times in 975 At bats, which means 9.3% in the two seasons. One of his qualities is that he rarely reaches a full count (3-2), which makes him a player who prefers to swing on early pitches(with an average of only 8,7% Base on Balls).

Now the advanced stats to demonstrate why he is a good player at making contact, avoiding strikeouts, and overall reading pitches.

For the comparison of these stats, I considered players with at least 400 plate appearances in a season between 2015 and 2022. I used the Top 10 players, and the red line represents the average of all players who met the requirement of 400 PA.

His Strikeout % is the most remarkable of all, with the lowest average in 2022 of 7.1%, and the lowest number at least since Daniel Murphy in 2015. He also have the Whiff % with 7.1% and Swing and Miss % with 5.6 %. The last two stats are very similar, but they still carry significant weight in defining the type of player Arraez is, which is quite rare in today's MLB. Additionally, he ranks among the top 10 players who possess these qualities.

In the chart above, we can see three advanced stats that define the type of hitter Arraez is. The first two evaluate the contact percentage inside and outside the strike zone, demonstrating his great ability to make contact anywhere.

The last stat shows the percentage of hits that were flares or burners, reflecting Arraez's calculated approach to place hits in the gaps or just out of reach of opposing players, it's worth noting that all the stats in which he is in the top 10 are above (or below) the MLB average.

Despite not being a power hitter or hitting many home runs, he still excels with his playing style and ranks among the highest.

3- Ending

If you've made it this far, you may have noticed that Luis Arraez is not a power hitter who generates many home runs and runs. However, this doesn't make him any less important as a player. It simply demonstrates the trade-offs of his playing style.

Looking at the downsides of Arraez, one of his issues (reflected in the chart below) is the low number of hits he has in the later innings, also, he struggles when batting with one or two outs. Although it is not accurately reflected if there were players on base, it is reflected in his low number of RBIs. This is not solely his fault, but also a team issue in terms of putting players on base to create better opportunities.

The graph below displays the 299 hits made by Arraez distributed by outcome (1B, 2B, 3B, HR) and the outs when at bat. It reflects his strong ability to produce hits in the first at-bat, and his slight absence in the later innings.

Additionally, in these graphics below, you can see a radial graph displaying his results and the distance of his hits.

The next graph compare the power of Luis Arraez vs Aaron Judge to observe the difference in their batting styles. The higher the exit angle, the more likely it indicates a home run(between 25 - 35 degrees)

I make this comparison to see the difference between both players. While one may excel in certain aspects over the other, overall, this comparison reflects Judge's immense power and Arraez's consistency in creating opportunities.
