oh yeah also tsela and yiska from the smoke room vn are names that are words in navajo. not exactly directly translateable as Diné Bizaad, the language of the navajo, essentially operates in "pictures". describing things and such. tsela can be translated to the best of my ability as "like stone"

while yiska essentially carries the message of "the night has passed" (used in both the word for Tomorrow and Saturday)

cynthia's last name, tsosie, essentially means "slender". I cannot provide an excerpt from my navajo-english dictionary since it's not in there, but it's also from 1958 and so its probably a little bit incomplete. the fact that she uses the name cynthia, a non-navajo name, reflects her decision to leave the reservation.

the name Begay is also a real life navajo surname that is an anglicization of biye', which means his/her son. i wish i could speak more on the accuracies within TSR's clifford route regarding navajo culture and history but that would be spoilers. all i will say is that the soap thing was a very real thing that was commonplace

speaking of clifford, his last name Tibbits could be a reference to Howard Clinton Tibbitts, a photographer who was well known for his photographs along the sites of the southern pacific railway which encompassed Arizona and into Apache and Puebloan territories. and yes, even Utah. rather telling

B-1B bombers perform joint training with Singapore and Japan in the Indo-Pacific

Two U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancers bombers were moved to the Indo-Pacific region where they carried out joint exercises with the Air Force of the Republic of Singapore (RSAF) and the Air Self-Defense Force of Japan (JASDF).

The two B-1B Lancers assigned to the 345º Expeditionary Bomber Squadron of Dyesss Air Base, Texas, arrived at Paya Lebar Air Base, Singapore, on January 18, as part of regular training of the United States Air Force and commitments to key partners in the region.

The PACAF spokesman added that they continue to conduct bomber missions in the Indo-Pacific region, demonstrating the effectiveness of the forces to ensure security in various environments. These training opportunities, according to him, support the national security objectives through the speed, flexibility and readiness of strategic bombers.

At the same time, U.S. Air Force F-35 fighters conducted joint training with several aircraft of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force on January 17 and 19 over the waters of the southern region of the island of Okinawa, Japan.

The two-day exercise involved 27 F-15 jets, one E-767, two E-2C Hawkeyes and two KC-46A Pegasus tanker planes from Japan, along with approximately 10 American F-35s poachers. JASDF announced that the training aimed to improve bilateral response capabilities and tactical skills.

The PACAF spokesman reiterated his commitment to carry out various missions, such as bombers, cargo, refueling and hunting in the Indo-Pacific region, highlighting the effectiveness of the forces in providing security in a varied and uncertain environment.

Hakuga (AnxEyeTea) findings

So there's some more or less interesting stuff in the files.

Oddheader's most recent video about video games tied to cults oOOOooOOOoo showed up in my recommended, and Hakuga was the only game I didn't recognize. The original itch.io page claims that the game was created by the uploader's friend, who took his own life in 2017, and the parents of that friend gave his computer to the uploader, which contained the game in an unfinished state, so the uploader made it playable. Since it was made in Unity, you can extract the game's assets with AssetStudio. The first thing you'll notice upon extracting them is that the game contains actual photos of dead people. Most of them depict the victims of Unit 731, and are completely uncensored. The ones that are related to the unit are used in the "Museum of Shame" area in the game.

There are also some development screenshots ("Offline.png", "hokugescrin.png" and "hkgunity.png"). Note how in the second one the top and bottom are cropped, and in the third one parts of the top are obfuscated.

At some point, I found a file that was dated 2021, which would be 4 years after the creator allegedly passed away. And this graphic has multiple variations.

It wouldn't make any sense for the creator's friend to have put it there, since he said he wanted the game to stay the way the creator left it.

So then I looked at the audio files in the hopes that I could find the source for some of them, at least the ones that weren't taken from SDR2/Persona 5.

I reverse searched this one, and it actually led me to a result:

A soundcloud trap beat. Even though the track is now titled "20", the url still has the original title, which lines up with the filename.

Having looked at the game's files for as long as I did, there were some glaring similarities between them and the cover art. One featured the japanese Shin Godzilla logo that was also used in-game multiple times, another cover was present as-is in the files, another used the same anime girl in the same 3D program and another one had that exact same picture of Renamon uncropped, which was used as a texture. Overall, they had almost the exact same art style as the game.

After this was discovered and shared with the Oddheader discord, a "fixed" version of Hakuga with no other info was uploaded on AnxEyeTea's itch.io, being 57mb smaller than the first version.

The Soundcloud account's last activity was on March 10th, 2021. There's no way this account doesn't belong to the original creator of the game, especially when you consider there was no trace of this game on the internet prior to Halloween 2022. That, and the account has its location set to Japan even though a lot of the comments it wrote were either in English or French. What's noticeable is that 1. The syntax of these comments is typical for a native French speaker 2. There are spaces before exclaimation and question marks 3. The first person "I" is always lowercase And before that, I had already tried to compare the writing styles of the game's creator and his "friend", which were exactly the same. Some of the game's graphics were also titled "sans titre", "téléchargement" and "copie" which would indicate that the creator's first language is French.

This story of "My friend took his life 6 years ago and his parents gave me his stuff so I learned how to use Unity and made this game playable" reeked of bullshit from the start. My first thought was that the creator made up the story of him taking his own life in order to either be shielded from criticism or to make the game seem more interesting by getting people to believe he died.

And finally, by looking up "hakuga reddit" in order to find something else, I found this post. An AMA by the creator, Alex.V/"Akiba Tomoke", hidden in plain sight.

There's a chance this is fake and was made by a data miner or something (considering the "I" is actually uppercase this time), but this account uses the Akiba name that was only used in-game, and its profile picture is a slightly altered version of an image in the assets that I couldn't find a source for:

So there you have it. The backstory was fake, there's no real link to a cult, it was just another edgy ARG.

EDIT: But wait, there's more. Somebody other than the OP replied to the AMA post, claiming to be the uploader.

These were up for about an hour until he deleted one of them and deactivated his account. At the same moment, this was posted to the itch.io page:

Somewhere in that timeframe, the Soundcloud account also got deleted. Strangely enough, the Twitter account from 2018 (which doesn't mention the friend AT ALL despite being created a year after his alleged passing) is still up. An hour after the intial text appeared on itch.io, some sections of it were rewritten multiple times (these are in chronological order, click for better quality):

You can see that after the third revision the archive.org link was removed, and right after that the itch.io download for the game was removed. After the last revision, the seperate page for Hakuga was completely deleted from AnxEyeTea's itch.io.

It should be mentioned that as soon as the "fixed" version of Hakuga was uploaded to the itch.io account, a review popped up on the old archived version, which got edited multiple times. Make of that what you will.

Certain aspects of the now deleted Soundcloud account actually led to the creator's professional design work, some of which still included assets and references to Hakuga. Nowadays he works on music videos, his last one was released in May of this year. I won't link to it here since I assume he doesn't want to be associated with Hakuga under this identity.

The Conclusion

A statement has been made on the itch.io page.

TL;DR: The creator of the game is still alive and well, nobody died. The premise of someone distributing his dead friend's unfinished Unity project was solely made up for the release of the game. Hakuga was a failed (collaborative?) ARG that utilized suicide, war, depression and drug symbolism as well as images of real dead people that were, in his words, intended to denounce and not forget what happened (specifically in relation to Unit 731). The usage of Japanese text is purely stylistic and mostly nonsensical.

Germany does His Best but he doesn’t really get it. He has a very popular insta for his dogs tho.

Switzerland has exactly One social media and it’s an insta dedicated to the swiss landscape. There are no sentient beings in his photos. There are no captions either.

And then there’s china. Actively avoiding all forms of social media and acting like your 97 year old grandpa when handed any sort of tech

And a large part of that is because his current government is very censor heavy but the other big part is that he just can’t deal with the speed at which trends change

I will never forgive the parasocials who harassed him and his gf everytime he gets with another woman until they eventually drove him off social media for good. It started way early since Margo because that was the start of his fame. Bucky was the role that made him known to the world. Fuck those immature capital letter B word. Bunch of whiny jealous little girls stuck in grown women's bodies deciding they're now dating an actor and own him in some way because they like him. They need look up what celebrity means again and seared the definition into their airhead brains. This is why we can't have nice things! Like,dude! Seriously! He's one the most nicest and most interactive-with-fans celebs out there. Not just amongst the MCU cast,but amongst celebs in general. Look all the comic con photos and how he entertained all their requests no matter how weird they get sometimes. Even on Reddit,which is not a subreddit dedicated to him or celebs at all,but on r/Ask subreddit,a guy commented that he saw Sebastian around SoHo a lot and that "people need to stop asking him for photos and leave the poor guy alone for a bit" implying that he never turned down fans' requests for photos most of the time even on his me-time. He replied to fans on IG (A LOT) and made their days. I saw him wishing a fan Happy Birthday on IG (on her page,it was a fanpage IG) and even wrote a sweet birthday wish to her in her comment section in one of her posts where she tagged him. He shares fanmemes/fanedits on his IG story.

Let's not forget his weibo interaction with his Chinese fans. It was so fucking sweet and lovely that I was jealous. He seems more casual,non formal,carefree and let loose lot more on weibo with his fans based on how he replies to them compared to IG where he kept it more civil. I'm guessing it's because no western news outlet will see it and report about it where as if he were to interact the same way on IG with his western fans,news outlets would pick on it. He didn't have to go out of his way for his fans,but he did. And what did they do? Threw it back in his face as a thank you. My point is he's so nice! One of the nicest celebs out there,I read that everywhere where people say that he's seriously one the nicest celebs out there. He's so appreciative and interactive/chatty with his fans. Most celebs don't do this with their fans. And now it's all ruined. I truly wished it would go back to before but he seems happy to be out of the toxic internet world and lives a lowkey & quiet private life with his girlfriend. I feel you. He probably felt a sort of burnout in 2017/2018 or something when he took the first big break. Then tried again but for so many reasons he saw things got worse and that + what i think it was him really GROWING up around his 40 bday made him realise internet was not something that gave him joy like it did so he quit.

It’s s shame considering seeing content directly from him is another type of joy really and also not everything on sm is bad, with his huge platform he could promote his less known projects for example. But it is what it is.

If it makes you feel more hopeful, i think he is not done with comic cons despite them being clearly stressful. I am sure he will attend one in japan in December 🇯🇵

Welcome back to another F1nn-ventures recap! Like in the Japan trip and Belle collab posts, I'll be presenting not only this week's new photos, but also a bit of the lore and fan reactions to provide context for why TWO posts from the f1nn5ter subreddit hit r/all yesterday!

First, let us return to a time nearly lost to the mists of history: May, 2020.

(I won't be doing a readmore on this post, sorry mobile scrollers!)

Two different gamer bros from two different countries have had the same idea: dress up like egirls and troll people on omegle. One of them is our boy F1nn,:

and the other is self-trained voice actor and professional YouTuber Natt:

In a moment of pure serendipity, they ended up in the same chat room, resulting in this viral clip:

F1nn and Natt went on to become good internet friends, with Natt popping in on F1nn's streams fairly regularly. (Natt also knew CottonTailVA before she met F1nn!) This year, Natt finally had the opportunity to visit the UK, so naturally he and F1nn planned to meet up irl.

Meanwhile, F1nn's chat loves "walking streams", where F1nn would occasionally live stream while walking around in public in "girl mode" as a dono goal. He started doing this at the beginning of the pandemic when it was late at night, so there were rarely people around to see him dressed up. After moving to his first (and current) house and getting yelled at by his friend MeowRiza, a trans woman, about reasonable safety precautions, walking streams were informally removed as a dono goal option.

Chat, of course, didn't give up hope. The idea of having a friend along to act as a body guard was raised, and it was suggested that F1nn go out somewhere safer, and perhaps do a video instead of being live. This topic came up again in F1nn's 2/18/23 stream, at which point everyone knew that Natt would be visiting in May. Natt was hanging out in chat during the stream, so an agreement was reached: F1nn would go on a "date" with Natt in full girl mode in London, IFF chat hit a dono goal of $15,000.00.

Chat smashed the dono goal in under 45 minutes.

All of that brings us to the events of this week (so far!).

On 5/18/23, Natt tweeted that he was in the UK, and on 5/20/23 F1nn posted a photo to his instastory of the sign at the Milton Keynes rail station. We knew they'd be meeting up soon, but not exactly when or what, if anything, they'd post about it.

On 5/21/23, Natt tweeted:

As per usual, the tweet was posted to the subreddit by (one of our new stream mods!!!) Barbie_secretstanner (who also posts F1nn's tweets here to tumblr! but I can't seem to @ them bc tumblr sucks sometimes):

I've included a screenshot of the post to show that Barbie indicated that this was a tweet by someone else, and she included a link to the original tweet as per typical subreddit archiving standards.

The reddit post blew up, relatively, because of how much chat has been anticipating F1nn being in girl mode in public, which led to it landing on r/all, where multiple lovely, supportive people apparently thought that someone was genuinely posting a selfie before their first date, as evidenced by comments that complimented F1nn's looks and encouraged him to have a good time. Natt also received some replies on twitter to the effect of, "She (meaning F1nn) looks cute, good luck bro!"

Next, F1nn posted this photo to his instastory:

Along with a short video that included Natt saying hi in his "girl voice" from across the hotel room they were both in. (To which we all said, 👀👀👀.)

This was followed up by F1nn tweeting:

which was posted to the subreddit by u/ECCOBLAST:

to which dudebros on twitter and reddit responded with ESSAYS about feminism, trans people, and dating norms in general, as they all immediately jumped to a diverse number of completely incorrect assumptions.

They said if women wanted equality then this is what they deserved, and gay men shouldn't expect hetero dating norms to apply just because they're pretty, and trans women should expect their dates to "see through" their chosen gender and be treated accordingly, and even that if F1nn was really a dude a birth then yeah, but because trans men are just self-hating cis women the "real" guy (Natt) should have paid the bill. There were even a few well-intentioned folks who said Natt was a shithead for bringing up F1nn's AGAB over his (presumed) actual gender!

The one assumption they had in common was that this was a post about a real date made by someone genuinely complaining about an actual comment made by a random guy that they were now putting on blast on the internet.

This firestorm of opinions was only somewhat calmed by Natt and then F1nn's replies to F1nn's tweet:

Which brings us to today! Nothing new has been posted so far by either of them, although I am typing this up before F1nn's usual posting time. reverse image search yielded but a couple archillect twitter posts and various instances of the pre-ai version on soundcloud, facebook and hd-wallpaper hawkers

the ai upscaled and recoloured hi-res image up at the top is a pretty fair use case of ai as a tool it seems

entirely possible the redditor is the photographer since they knew where this photo was taken, but i doubt it since they’re using an ai upscaler on an image they would have originated

Media Reflection - Ghibli Studios Museum

Months prior to the trip, Nico had reached out to me and asked if I had wanted to go to the Ghibli Studios Museum, which initially I had doubts about because I had never seen one of their films before. However, Nico convinced me to come anyways, and we both entered the online queue a month in advance to secure our tickets. Nico and I were able to purchase our tickets, but some of the other members of the GroupMe group chat were not able to, and they had to find sources on Reddit and other websites to help with the purchasing process. Eliza was able to acquire tickets for most of the group, which was quite impressive because she had to call people in Japan to help her out, I don’t know if I have that same dedication. 

We were able to visit the museum on our free day on Thursday, June 8th, and it was a great experience! The building itself was cute, colorful, and childish, it reminded me of something I would see at a theme park like at Disney or Universal. Upon arrival, there was a strict prohibition of photos inside the building, so I’ll try to describe the setting as best as possible. It was a three-story building that also included an outside patio with a café, and it was adorned with decorations from the films, including stain-glassed windows with character designs, large statues, and detailed imagery on the walls. We walked around aimlessly reading the intricate history behind the Ghibli Studios’ film-making process. Each room was dedicated to a different aspect of the design process whether it was the drawing/sketching of the manga or the filming of the pieces all together. It was inspirational to see how far the company has made progress within the anime industry, as now five of its films are in the top ten highest-grossing anime films made in Japan. After touring the museum, we sat at the theatre and watched a short feature film about My Neighbor Totoro, which was one of Ghibli’s first films and is arguably the most recognizable symbol of the studio. It was about 20 minutes long and it was incredibly light-hearted, funny, and thrilling. Certainly, this was my favorite part of the experience. 

Academic Reflection

I will be discussing the impact of the short film based on My Neighbor Totoro that our group was able to watch while attending the Studio Ghibli Museum on our free day on June 8th. It started with a young, cute girl running through the fields next to her farm house and getting chased by a tornado that happened to be an invisible cat. She befriended said cat and was able to visit the cat’s colony, which contained thousands of cats and other creatures. She was nervous and anxious at first, until she found Totoro, which was this large, cozy-looking animal that she found comfort in. They messed around in the cat colony and befriended the largest cat by feeding him candy. All in all, it was extremely light-hearted and funny. 

I had never seen a film before, so I didn’t know what to expect prior to this feature film. The scenes were absolutely breathtaking as they depicted fantasy settings in an eerily normal way. The flow and continuation of the film was top notch as everything was easy to follow, even for someone like me who had never seen My Neighbor Totoro before. The show actually reminded me somewhat of Japanese culture, in that the cats were like the everyday transportation systems such as cars, bikes, buses and trains that transported the other fictional species, such as the species Totoro was from, around. Those species traveled in massive hordes all towards the large cat that the girl and Totoro fed, which reminded me of the morning rush at Tokyo Central Station. These creatures were very orderly as they walked in crowds of straight lines and even made sure to avoid the little girl, whom they didn’t recognize. This also reminded me of how sometimes the people on the train we would be sitting next to would randomly get up and go sit somewhere else, which I believe they acted this way due to the fact that we were foreigners. 

The featured film was incredibly well-designed and it although it was light-hearted and childish, I enjoyed it very much as it was a comfortable switch-up from more violent animes that I have watched in the past. We learned in class that many forms of Japanese media have struggled with the issue of the expression of “soft power”. This short-film directly challenged that issue because the show had underlying expressions of Japanese society, while being expressed in a childlike manner.

AITA for photoshopping a wedding photo?

Hi everyone, I (29F) just got married to Tom (32M) 3 weeks ago. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him. We just came back from our honeymoon in Japan a week later and I got the wedding photos - my sister was photographer since she has her own business and wanted to gift us all the photos and videos.

One of my bridesmaids (Hannah 29F)'s dad passed sadly, freak accident before the wedding. She has a necklace he bought her a few years ago and she wanted to wear it on our wedding day, something she asked on the day. It didn't go with her dress at all, way too loud and long and I thought it detracted from her dress. However, I didn't see this as a huge hill to die on since I've read about editing wedding photos online and that it's a way for everyone to be happy. So, she wore it in the photos and I asked my sister if she could do me a solid and edit two versions of the photo - one copy with the necklace in for Hannah and one with the necklace without for me. I ended up having that photo printed and put up in the dining room of me and all of my bridesmaids.

Tom and I threw a BBQ to thank everyone once more for coming to the wedding. It was all going well until Hannah saw the edited photo without the necklace framed and on my wall. I explained and told her that I thought it was a nice way to compromise since I did say it didn't go with the outfit at the wedding. She wasn't happy and said the necklace meant a lot to her and it was rude to have it edited out. I apologised but pointed out that we gave her photos where she was wearing a necklace and that I wanted a photo with my original vision on my wall and there are photos of her where she is wearing the necklace. It was just this one photo of all my bridesmaids and I in front of our venue that I had edited.

All of the bridesmaids dresses were handmade by me to match my theme and as a nice memento and part of their thanks for being in my bridal party. If I'd known she wanted to wear the necklace, I would have designed her dress differently. She left pretty quickly after that and has refused to answer my calls or messages of me trying to apologise.

Hello, I need a bit of help from this community. I've been assigned to write an informative text in my high school. I plan on doing a myth vs fact type of writing and I've got a couple of myths in my mind to debunk but it would be nice if I'm provided with more myths. I just want the myths or misconceptions and I'll try to research the reality behind these myths on my own. Thank you!

The myths about samurai might be a good topic to write about. Here's another article about it: Bushido: Way of Total Bullshit - Tofugu (discussions on reddit: [1] [2] [3] [4]). The myth that samurai followed a strict and well-defined code of honor is widespread not only in the West, but also in Japan itself. It was used as fascist propaganda during WW2, and is still being perpetuated by the far-right in Japan today.

For myths specific to the Shinsengumi, there's the myth of the Shinsengumi Code which didn't exist in real life, the myth that Sannan left the Shinsengumi with Akesato (she didn't exist either), and a whole bunch of photos often considered to be Okita's photo but are actually fakes or composites. But I don’t think most people outside this community would have heard about these myths. I didn’t even know the Shinsengumi existed back when I was in high school 😅

These are what I can think of at the moment. Let me know if you need more ideas :)
