Your local selkie tumblogger not the best at taking pretty photos but I had to show you all this new book called A Sweet Sting of Salt that I just got for my lesbian book hoard, because it's about a selkie! If you're familiar with the fisherman's wife story then you can guess what the selkie is dealing with. I'm so excited to read this!

Ship Wrecked ~ Olivia Dade
Ship Wrecked ~ Olivia Dade
Rating: 5/5 Ship Wrecked is one of my new favorite romances, and you better believe I will be recommending it to other romance readers. Two people meet and have a one-night-stand, and although they were very passionate and emotionally connected, Maria chooses to leave the hotel room before Peter wakes up. Upon waking, Peter is understandably disappointed, as he felt the night was exceptional and…

Why I'm No Longer Talking To White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge The title drew my attention. I'd not quite expected to learn so much about history of racism in Britain. The parallels are not at all difficult to draw in the same frustrating discussions about race with whites in US. Whites & much of US is taught an entirely different, inaccurate, outright lies about history & race in the US, Britain & the world, making it incredibly frustrating to discuss, when many don't even come into conversation with facts & knowledge about accuracy of history. Highly important, insightful & recommended. 👍 #READ #READS #READING #BOOK #BOOKS #BOOKSTAGRAM #HISTORY #NONFICTION #BRITAIN #READBLACKWOMEN #READBLACK #READWOMEN #LETSREAD #NOWREADING #CURRENTLYREADING https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpp7q4uu_23/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The White Book by Hand Kang
Translated by Deborah Smith
A heartbreaking poem on the death of the author's sister. Han Kang takes us on a lyrical journey of mourning and grief.
She writes about all the things around her that are blindingly white.
The moon-shaped rice cake, the snow, the frost, the breast milk, the colour of the gown her mother sewed for her stillborn baby.
" Standing at this border where land and water meet, watching the seemingly endless recurrences of the waves ( though this eternity is in fact illusion: the earth will one day vanish, everything will one day vanish), the fact that our lives are no more than brief instants is felt with unequivocal clarity.
Each wave becomes dazzlingly white at the moment of its shattering. Further out, the tranquil body of water flashes like the scales of innumerable fish. The glittering of multitudes is there. The shifting, stirring, tossing of multitudes. Nothing is eternal. "
🎑Q: What is the colour of mourning in your culture? In my culture it's black.

Separatist Lesbrarian Post
As if my Goddess research book pile isn't big enough.. I've decided to make a post of my work-in-progress separatist booklist; there's essays, feminist sci-fi, lesbian novels, all-female societies, herstories, etc. Some I've read but most are TBR on the Storygraph. If any women know anything that would be a good fit, or praise or criticism of anything here, feel free to add suggestions.
Fiction:
Sultana's Dream by Rokeya Sakhawat Hossein (only 11 pages and I love it so much)
The Wanderground: Stories of the Hill Women by Sally Miller Gearhart
Womonseed by Sunlight
Daughters of a Coral Dawn trilogy by Katherine V. Forrest
Return to Isis trilogy by Jean Stewart
Journey to Zelindar, Hadra Archives series by Diana Rivers
Ammonite by Nicola Griffith (this one made me want to go to the all female planet so much!)
The Demeter Flower by Rochelle Singer
The Gate to Women's Country by Sheri S. Tepper
A Door Into Ocean, Elysium series by Joan Slonczewski
*Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (I read this, cw for shameless racism)
Your Faces, O My Sisters! Your Faces Filled of Light, and Houston, Houston, Do You Read?, by James Tiptree Jr. (pen name of Alice Sheldon)
When Women Were Warriors trilogy by Catherine M. Wilson (too many men in last book, some weird scenes but good otherwise, would reread)
*The Stars Are Legion by Kameron Hurley (read this, overall liked it but for the love of Goddess check reviews for content warnings bc idek how to warn for this)
The Carhullan Army/Daughters of the North by Sarah Hall (read, off-putting scenes esp gross het scene but interesting other aspects)
Banner of Souls by Liz Williams, added by suggestion! This looks interesting.
Sister Light, Sister Dark by Jane Yolen, thanks to @violetssunsets for the addition! unfortunately was warned about het content but also a society of warrior women.
Celaeno series by Jane Fletcher, thanks to @unified-multiversal-theory for the suggestion! Has an all-woman society so I need it in my life.
Herstory and Nonfiction:
Separatism and Women's Community by Dana R. Shugar (got this recently and excited to read this herstory)
Lesbian Land by Joyce Cheney
Sinister Wisdom #98: Landykes of the South: Women's Land Groups and Lesbian Communities in the South (have this, many listed are of the past)
La Luz Journal by Juana Maria Paz (actively seeking this one atm, racism and esp colonization issues wrt women's spaces on occupied land are something I want to see addressed)
Country Lesbians: The Story of the Womanshare Collective by Sue Deevy, Nelly Kaufer, Dian Wagner, Carol Newhouse, and Billie Miracle. (Billie gave me a copy of this when I visited Womanshare a few years back)
Weeding at Dawn: A Lesbian Country Life by Hawk Madrone
Amazon Acres, You Beauty: Stories of Women's Lands, Australia, edited by Sand Hall
Circles of Power: Shifting Dynamics in a Lesbian-Centered Community by La Verne Gagehabib and Barbara Summerhawk
For Lesbians Only: A Separatist Anthology, edited by Sarah Lucia Hoagland and Julia Penelope. (70 essays! I haven't finished it but I'm trying)
Wild Mares: My Lesbian Back-to-the-Land Life by Dianna Hunter
*Herlands: Exploring the Women's Land Movement in the United States by Keridwen N Luis (language in synopsis seems to favor male invasion of Female Sovereign Space so my expectations are low)
If any women here have read any of these please let me know your thoughts! I don't have anon on but I’ll redact asks if you want to write in anonymously, just say the word. Hoping to find more knowledgeable lesbrarians on our beloved hellsite than myself :)

books for baby gays
gather round queer kiddos, for this book rec of stories featuring wlw of all designations, where happy things happen and bad things do not (nearly as much). I’ve aimed for happy endings and not too much tragedy or pain over the course of these stories, but (unfortunately) haven’t read all of them so do let me know if any mistakes slipped through.
This list is heavy on the fiction because I’m mainly aiming to provide some solace and warmth. Where there is some overlap between categories (e.g. coming out after uni and the what comes next section, or if you’re looking for escapism then the background-to-no romance section might also be useful) I have only included a book under one or the other, not duplicated.
All links direct through to the Storygraph, which includes reader-sourced content warnings on all titles so do make sure to check those out as well (and if you want you can follow me here). Now, have at it!

Yerba Buena ~ Nina LaCour
Yerba Buena ~ Nina LaCour
The first two chapters are so distinctly different, both in the narration style and the character’s journeys, at first Yerba Buena read as a collection of short stories. I actually looked it up when I was halfway through the second chapter to see if it was, only to find that the two protagonists’ journeys intersect down the road. Now I was reading it with a new lens, trying to find the ways in…

Book 96 of 2021. #AnneTyler writes about perfectly ordinary things. Families. Middle-class, small-town sensibilities. Marriages. Inordinately mundane matters that we are all familiar with. But what makes her an incredible wordsmith is: how she infuses her ordinary worlds and stories with so much sincere warmth and heart and astute observations, that you find youself seeing new shades and layers to perfectly ordinary situations. I first heard of her when A Spool of Blue Thread was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2015. I read it and loved it and wanted to see (very naively) if she had other books out! Well she did. About 20 odd books! Since then I've read 3 of her books. Bought a few more and am hoping to someday read everything she's ever penned. Simple yet profound and moving and so utterly unpretentious. I am currently halfway through #clockdance and am really enjoying the time I am spending with the people in this book. Hoping to drink some coffee and slowly savour this tale of new and surprising connections. Hope you are having a good weekend too. . . . #whimsybookworm2021reads #fiction #bookishfeatures #igreads #americanliterature #bookstagram #unitedbookstagram #currentlyreading #amreading #bibliophile #bookrecommendations #bookreview #womenwhoread #readmore #readwomen #booksandcoffee #coffee #literaturelover #weekendreads (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ3RJitpMgB/?utm_medium=tumblr

For are we not all, at times, exactly like Poe's narrators—beating upon the confining walls of circumstance, the limits of the universe?

#momentomóvil #marlenekrause #microreseña ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Mobile moment" is a #comic with nine short stories where two points are repeated each time: the appearance of a mobile, and a point of no return in its argument. Just as obssessed as we are with social media, this work was going to hit us in our hearts for sure. Each of the stories is different, some are more tender and others a little bit cruel, but in all of them we find representations of situations and attitudes that we have all seen or even felt in our lifes. The author creates a possible dystopia to which... we could end up living in if we continue like this. Who knows? . Not sure if it's available in english, ask the spanish publisher (@apa_apa_comics) . #readwomen #comicstagram #comic #comicartist #graphicnarrative (hier: Barcelona, Spain) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG5Zt7tBkT2/?igshid=1ezpzy7wvml6z
