JOHN EGBERT BANGING OUT THE TUNES APRIL 21, 2009?!
After our adventures in John's bedroom and living room these past days, we now get a glimpse into his father's study. Unsurprisingly this room is also filled with harlequins, but this time the more businesslike monochrome harlequins, almost veering into mime territory. There's also a copy of 'The Serious Jester' on the desk. From this we could guess that this is where John's dad does the serious part of clowning - filing his taxes or whatever - if it weren't for the next line.
There is also a CAN OF PEANUTS on the desk. Ha ha, oh DAD. You won't be falling for THAT one again any time soon. A severe peanut allergy is a terrible affliction to cope with.
AGAIN?? Is this suggesting that John's dad, through carelessness at best, has been leaving peanuts around the house to potentially poison his son with? Can we infer that his ceaseless cake baking is a sort of Russian roulette, where most cakes are perfectly safe but there's a small chance any one could have peanuts blended in? Is the divide between John and his father that John does whimsical, ridiculous pranks while his father does 'serious' pranks that endanger people's lives? When are we going to meet this evil clown?!
A father without a pipe is like a strapping roughneck without a toothpick. That is to say, HE IS A RATHER PISS-POOR EXCUSE FOR A ROUGHNECK IF YOU ASK ME.
This is the THIRD time an opinion like this has been voiced by the narration - first the tire swing, then the fire, and now the father, all trappings of the suburban lifestyle in which John seems to live. The narrator explicitly calls themself 'me' here too, suggesting a distinct entity instead of a disembodied narration. Are we reading this from the point of view of an entity who is keeping John homestuck, forcing him to partake in all the trappings of home life? And does this have anything to do with Sburb - as someone pointed out on Discord last night, it's only one letter away from Suburb?
I think that captchaloguing a captchalogue card should cause John to open a portal to the astral plane like with bags of holding in D&D.
But the most exciting part of this update is John playing the piano on page 77 - complete with a song playing inside the animation! The song is Showtime by Kevin Regamey and Malcolm Brown, and it's a very pleasant listen. John is a skilled piano player!! Which means that sooner than expected, I'm getting an answer to my question of 'what is John good at'. I can't believe there hasn't been a single mention of music in this comic until now, and suddenly John busts out this simple but lightweight, airy, carefree melody that he's clearly practiced loads before. What other secrets is this kid hiding from us?
The caption on this animation is even more intriguing - '(Pages including sound will be preceded by [S] in the command.)' Is music going to become a regular part of the comic? Is John playing music going to become relevant to the plot, so we'll get to hear more of his songs, or will music be worked into the story in other ways? This is treading new ground, moving Homestuck further away from a 'traditional' comic, which only makes me more curious about where it'll go next.

If you don't mind can you please write Sakamaki's reaction to a ghost!reader. Like this person is stuck living in the mansion because they died there a hundred years ago by being killed by their then lover and now they haunt the house. You can make this go in any direction you like. Please and thank you!💗
Shu: He would be sleeping on the staircase when he first saw the ghost but he doesn’t get scared by ghosts or spirits, if the ghost was making a ruckus he would get annoyed, but he wouldn’t care enough to be haunted , I don’t even think the ghost would want to haunt him, the ghost would get annoyed by the lack of reaction from this guy.
Reiji: he would just be drinking some tea in his room then feel a super cool breeze and all of his books would start to shake on his book case and slowly dropping one by one, then he would hear a voice whisper out, he would internally be screaming and panicking but wouldn’t move at all. He’d turn even paler than usual.
Ayato: he’d playing a game of darts with Laito when it happens, the target would drop to the floor, then slide across the room, he would look at Laito and they would instantly think it was the ghost of Cordelia so his reaction would be to start cursing it out and telling the ghost he’d kill it all over again.
Kanato: it would happen while he was in the graveyard singing his little songs, he wouldn’t get scared to be honest, he would try to talk to it but the ghost would get scared of him more than anything.
Laito: he’s with Ayato when it happens and he’s not too sure it’s the ghost of their mother due to the aura the ghost gave off, but he can sense some tragedy did occur to this spirit, he tries to tell Ayato to keep it down and that the ghost wasn’t Cordelia but Ayato refuses to listen.
Subaru: he’d be so pissed off a ghost was disturbing his flower time in the garden, he would also think it was his mother since the ghost caused all the white rose petals to scatter gently, it would shake him a bit but nothing too crazy.

I just finished Unknown.
[SPOILER FREE]
I was going to show restraint. I was going to watch it weekly even if I had access to the final 3 episodes. That was the plan.
That did not happen.
Now I am walking around the apartment, lost. I pick things up, put them down again. I stare at a wall for a moment. Stare out the window for a bit. I am litterally shaking (my asthma meds sure are adding to the experience). I want to go right back to the beginning and rewatch it again. For my sanity, I think it might be better if I never watch it again. I want to take screenshots and post them. I want to write meta and reflections and list sweet descriptions of my favourite scenes. I want to write fanfics. I want to pick it apart and dig into it and learn from how they put it together. I want to leave it untouched, pristine, unchanged. I wish I had millions laying untouched in some bank account so that I could donate it to the actors and creators and all the people who brought this series to life.
This might be the best series I've ever seen.
I'll have to revisit that statement when I've got some distance to the series and can look back on it with a more sober mind, but in this moment... I can't think of a better one.

That's A Wrap, Folks!
(Page 80-81)
I just think it'd be a really good bit if Andrew Hussie titled their webcomic 'Homestuck', left tantalizing clues implying the main character was trapped in his house, then on page 80 have him leave the house no problem, and end the comic there forever.
But in case that doesn't happen, I love this curveball. Mainly because Homestuck so far has been so good at putting off showing the reader what they want to see - introducing characters but letting us know nothing about them, having John constantly sidetracked on his mail quest - that to have John simply step out of the house feels genuinely shocking and fresh.
It's notable that we get a lot of color in these panels. Use of color in Homestuck is something I'd love to dig into at some point - the interior of the house is black outlines and details on a white background with occasional splashes of block color, while the front yard is the exact opposite, primarily in block color but with certain objects (mailbox, car) in black outline and white fill. But then there's computer and television screens, which despite being indoor objects are shown in full color, and with more detail and photographs than in the block colors. These three different color modes (so far) seem to represent three different places which sometimes bleed over into each other, with three distinct sets of feelings and ideas associated with them.
Finally, we've now had Clever Disguise John for just as long (five days) as we had Base Model John. Long may he reign.
