#Radagast
Since Gandalf smokes weed and Radagast does shrooms, I have a theory that each of the wizards represents a drug. Saruman is cocaine.

Radagast: *after handing a raccoon to Thorin, explaining it was Bilbo but he touched something he shouldn’t have while at tea in his hut today*
Thorin: …nothing to say, for your actions towards my burglar?
Radagast: *shrugs* Oops.
Thorin: *deep sigh, turns to Gandalf while gently cradling smol Bilbo* I assume you know what to do about this?
Gandalf: *pats down his pockets for a moment before pulling out a pouch* Ahh, yes, have him eat a little of this with each meal for a few days. Dwarven meal times will do just fine.
Thorin: *sighs again, walks off with the grabby baby holding onto his face* Thank you.
Gandalf: *after watching Thorin carry him off to the cart* What really happened?
Radagast: He asked if I could turn him into a worm to see if the king still loves him. I thought a raccoon would get more cuddles and less likely to lead to a row after he changed back. What did you give Thorin?
Gandalf: Uh… pine nuts, I think.
Radagast: Nice.

I know this was meant to be a funny little scene, but I ADORE IT.
I think it’s actually so wholesome. Bilbo doesn’t rly know what he’s saying, but then again it’s actually kinda true.
Great has never equaled good.
Saruman was a great wizard, to a certain extent. But he could not claim to be good.
Radagast, for one, is purely and utterly good. Quite singular, yet still good. Great in his own good, and eccentric, way.
Gandalf is good. He’s undoubtedly great as well. I don’t know how to explain it in another way than:
“Is he a great wizard, or more like you?”
He’s more like Gandalf, Bilbo. He’s not simply great. He’s good.

The Council of Three
Always wanted to draw them together 💕- Curumo, Olorin and Aiwendil aka Saruman, Gandalf and Radagast as grown up, but still young Istari. I wonder what they are talking about o.o… I'd guess it's wizard stuff…

On this day, 10 years ago, I was working on one of my most detailed coffee paintings to date ☕️ I spent at least 6 months working on it, on and off, as I didn't want to skip a single stitch or detail.

Gandalf came out looking a bit sharper, but all in all I was happy with it, especially after spending so long on it 😂😭
Painted with instant coffee on smooth, heavyweight paper.

Even as the first shadows were felt in Mirkwood there appeared in the west of Middle-earth the Istari, whom Men called the Wizards. In the likeness of Men they appeared, old but vigorous, and they changed little with the years, and aged but slowly, though great cares lay on them; great wisdom they had, and many powers of mind and hand.

"Radagast is, of course, a worthy Wizard, a master of shapes and changes of hue..."
I'm mildly obsessed with this throwaway remark from Gandalf. Like his fellow Istari, Radagast is a Maia in origin, and the only other Maia who is singled out for their shapeshifting ability is Sauron. Radagast is potentially a shapeshifter on a par with bloody Sauron, and this is just never. mentioned. again. Amazing.
(tbh I'm not entirely sure what makes their ability stand out, since all the Ainur seem capable of changing their forms, unless, like Melkor, their power is depleted in a big way. Even Olórin/Gandalf is mentioned as changing his shape in the Silmarillion. But that's another musing for another time...)
But to return to Radagast and Sauron: I wonder if there's any difference in their approach to shapeshifting. On a headcanon level, I tend to associate Sauron's ability with his smithing - he's crafting himself a new form. Maybe for Radagast, as a Maia of Yavanna, his ability is closer to examples from the natural world, like animal camouflage and call mimicry.
And is there maybe a link to the Beornings, too? Beorn seems to know him - "Not a bad fellow, as wizards go". What if it was Radagast who first showed his people how to change their shape - whether that was teaching Men how to turn into bears, or teaching bears how to turn into Men?
Just frankly obsessed with the idea that Radagast has these powers that could potentially make him a match for the Dark Lord himself, but he'd rather just be chilling in the woods, chatting to the birds.

Gandalf: I love this picture of the wizards. We look so happy.
Elrond: Where’s Saruman?
Gandalf: He wasn’t the head of our order yet. That’s why we were so happy.

Really find it funny that radagast arrived in middle earth and then just immediately fucked off and did nothing he was supposed to. Nothing but vibes in his head

😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂 I will NEVER get over the fact that all the Istari are known for like actual wizard powers but Saruman’s major magic is his voice and (quote by Nerd of the Rings); “sway hearts, plant fears and sow lies as he saw fit.”
Like Gandalf has pyromancy and Radagast has shapeshifting/talking to animals and Saruman’s superpower is bullshitting
