68. One Step at the Time
Whether we’re talking about a country’s march towards gender equality or one’s own personal progress, it always takes some effort. Latoya, or Toya K, is a singer-songrwiter from Namibia and she explains what she had to go through on a personal level, as well as what her experience has been as a queer artist in her home country. These things have in common that progress doesn’t always happen as fast as you’d want but rather one step at a time.
It’s been a treat to have Toya on the show. From the day we first met we knew this just had to happen and what better time to promote a friends art than during the QS Summer of Sound. Latoya hopes people learn something at her life shows and hopefully that also goes for listening to this podcast episode.

If you’ve ever enjoyed disco, EDM, changed your voice with auto-tune, or danced along to Daft Punk, you’ve got the subject of today’s episode to thank! We’ll get into all the exciting details, like weird stories about Stanley Kubrick during A Clockwork Orange, comedy albums with Weird Al Yankovic, living inside a faraday cage, and more cats than you can shake a dangly, shiny stick at.
Our wonderful guest host for this episode, Hannah van Rhee, can be found on twitter at @duchessofdeer, and you can follow their podcast QueerSounds on twitter @queersoundspod, Instagram @queersoundspod, and at www.queersounds.com.

65. Bisexual Shock Value
In this second installment of the QS Summer of Sounds we’re giving you some insight in what it’s like to play festivals that attract more people than the population of your home country. As well as a short introduction to the Faroe Islands, its music scene and general public opinion on queer people. Be warned: it’s not great.
In order to shake things up a little bit, Joe and the Shitboys actively brand themselves as Bisexual. Under a false guise of neutrality people tend to think that conforming to the status quo is the best way to keep the peace. Joe and the Shitboys refuse to take part in this and bring some shock value to the Faroes because ” oh dear, they’re political!”
Content warning: Racism, queerphobia, misogyny, and a brief mention of self-harm.

Η Lisa Busby θα παρουσιάσει το άλμπουμ της Fingers in the Gloss, μαζί με νέα περφόρματιβ κομμάτια ζωντανά στην αμόκα την Παρασκευή 19 Οκτωβρίου στις 21:00! Συμμετέχει και συνθέτει στις μπάντες The Nomadic Female DJ Troupe και Rutger Hauser. Είναι υδριτικό μέλος του 'Women¹s Revolutions Per Minute' αρχειακό πρότζεκτ από την θέση Research Fellow, Goldsmiths Special Collections and Archives. Special free download "Hollow Blown Egg" https://lisabusby.bandcamp.com/track/hollow-blown-egg http://lisabusby.com/ https://lisabusby.bandcamp.com/ http://fingersinthegloss.co.uk/ ♥ Lisa Busby - Fingers in the Gloss Friday 19th Oct 21:00 Lisa Busby will perform from her album Fingers in the Gloss, alongside new tracks and performance pieces. Improvised noise, collage, and abuse of turntable and tape form the basis for spoken text and song fragments. Lisa Busby is a Scottish composer, vocalist, improviser, and researcher, based in London. Situated across experimental music, performance art, and pop culture, her practice explores processes of making, lo-fi intermediality, and utilization of the found. Materially she is interested in fragments, fringes and collisions of song and noise; artefacts of pop and fan culture; entanglements with historical archives; experimental turntablism and expanded usage of playback, samples and loops; and everyday action as/in performative gesture. She performs and composes with bands The Nomadic Female DJ Troupe and Rutger Hauser; has a long-standing sound and movement collaboration, ³Floor Scores², with Gabriel Bohm Calles; is part of The Lumen Lake music collective and record label; and a member of the art, education, and politics collective Common Study based at Somerset House Studios. She is part of the core team for the 'Women¹s Revolutions Per Minute' archive legacy project in her role as Research Fellow, Goldsmiths Special Collections and Archives. Recent works have seen her grinding tampons in a clothes mangle, utilising The Greatest Hits of The Spice Girls as material for new sound and video works, and re-enacting childhood sense memories in tribute to Mierle Ukeles' maintenance art.
