rewatching s2 ep3. mobius is so funny. i get that it's his job to have major historical points memorized but the enthusiasm he brings to the table is so endearing. why does he remember the most prolific serial killer of the era he winds up in. he thinks of hot air balloons and audibly says "yes!" because he cannot keep his excitement in. mobius m mobius ilysm

I forgot that Mobius was so extremely petty about Sylvie at first. He even dunks on her name ("is it ie or just an i?"). I wonder if that line was meant to sound so derisive or if that was just Owen adding his take. Either way, that scene seems so telling because Mobius has, up until that point, been pretty calm in the face of things he expects Loki to do. He says he expects Loki to stab him in the back before they go to Pompeii. When Loki lies during the first mission, he almost seems amused by it. Which makes sense - this is all very Loki stuff!

But when Loki betrays him by following someone else (notably, a woman that Mobius assumes he's attracted to), Mobius suddenly cannot hold his anger back in front of Loki. Just...the choices that were made baffle me so much sometimes if we're not meant to read Loki and Mobius as attracted to each other.

I have a theory:

Here's what we know:

Our Loki, TVA Loki, is a variant. Therefore variants can affect and be affected by the Sacred Timeline even if they're not from the Sacred Timeline.

A variant simply being in a different timeline cannot cause a branch- that's why in the Pompeii apocalypse Mobius suggests making 'bird noises'. If you don't cause enough of a disturbance you can get away with it.

Loki is canonically bisexual, genderfluid, and capable of shapeshifting.

The 'Centuries' Loki spent studying had to have been spent in the Sacred Timeline because any other branch would have disappeared too quickly.

Loki would have to leave before Don's nexus event.

Loki couldn't have spent centuries on the Sacred Timeline as himself because people would recognise him and he would risk encountering the Sacred variant.

Don's wife is 'long gone', he never says he's divorced.

Don's children, Sean and Kevin are very much like Thor and Loki (one likes snakes and the other likes chaos) while Don is nothing like Odin which leads me to this conclusion:

Loki timeslipped back to the Sacred Timeline as a woman to study whatever he needed to study and during the course of that time he married and had children with Don. He couldn't stay long enough because Don is mortal and Loki probably didn't want to watch him die, so he existed in a time-loop that amounted to centuries, a time-loop that ended at a point in time where Don assumed his wife simply up and left him. Loki probably used a different name which is why Don didn't know his name when Loki timeslips to him the first time but he did find him familiar enough to trust.

I wouldn't put it past the creatives behind the show to leave these breadcrumbs for us to draw this conclusion even if they would never admit it to the higher-ups. The higher-ups couldn't even let lokius happen, so no way they were aware of these breadcrumbs.

Summary: While on your walk through the marketplace, a strange man appears in weird clothing; bidding bad tidings. He sweeps you into his arms, and all of a sudden...you're not in Pompeii anymore.

Pairing: TVA!Loki x Roman!Reader

Warning(s): mentions of death and destruction, Loki being a mischievous scamp

As a resident of Pompeii, you lived a simple life in the shadow of the great Mount Vesuvius. You had always known that there was the possibility that the volcano could erupt at any moment, but you never truly expected it to happen; let alone when you were enjoying the sights of the marketplace.

But as the sky turned grey and the ground began to tremor beneath your feet, you knew that it was the end. You closed your eyes, waiting for the inevitable, but when you opened them again, you saw a man in some sort of beige cloth standing in front of you. He had a mischievous smile on his face and a glint in his eyes that made you uneasy.

"Nothing matters," he declared, his sultry voice ringing in your ears. He seemed to be talking to someone else, but you were the only one standing there. Suddenly, he grabbed your hand and pulled you towards him.

"What are you doing?" you asked, trying to pull away.

"I'm proving a point," he replied, a smirk on his lips.

You had no idea what he was talking about, but before you could protest, he began to swing you around. You stumbled at first, but soon found your footing and began to move with him. The world around you was crumbling and falling apart, but in that moment, all that mattered was the two of you dancing in the midst of destruction.

As the ground continued to shake and the sky turned black, the man in beige continued to dance with you. You had no idea who he was or what he wanted, but you couldn't help but feel drawn to him. His confidence and charm were intoxicating, and for a moment, you forgot about the impending doom.

But just as quickly as it had started, the dancing stopped. The man in beige suddenly let go of your hand and seemingly disappeared, leaving you alone in the chaos of your city's impending doom.

A shaky sigh was all you managed to get out before someone grabbed your arm and pulled you through some sort of glowing light. And the next thing you knew, you were standing in a strange room surrounded by people in strange clothes.

Confused and disoriented, you stumbled forward, trying to find your bearings. Suddenly, the man in beige appeared again, this time with another man in what you're assuming to be formal garb.

"Welcome to the TVA," he said, his mischievous smile never leaving his face. "You're not supposed to be here, but I couldn't resist bringing you along."

You had no idea what he was talking about; what was a TVA? But before you could ask, the man in the formal clothes interrupted.

"Loki, what have you done?" he asked, his voice sounded stern, but the words he spoke were extremely foreign.

The man in beige's -- now known as Loki's-- smile faltered for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure. "Relax, Mobius. She's not going to cause any harm."

You sent a confused glance to Loki, "What is this man saying? Where is he from? Greece? Persia?"

Loki's eyes seemed to widen with realisation, "Ah, I apologise my lady. Let me fix this problem." With that, a green haze washed over you, a startled yelp slipping from between your lips.

"Are you two done with your little show?" The older man--who you assumed to be Mobius--asked.

Loki scoffed, "I was not putting on a show! She couldn't comprehend a word that slipped through your lips; so I gave her a little help."

Mobius just sighed, "She's not supposed to be here, Loki. You know the rules," his frustration evident in his tone.

"But isn't that the point? To show you that apocalypses don't affect the timeline?" Loki retorted.

"I was there with you! I saw the evidence on the Tempad! There was no need for you to bring a random woman back with you," Mobius said, crossing his arms.

"Ah, but where's the fun in that? Besides, she seemed like she needed some excitement in her life. Being burned alive or suffocated by volcanic ash doesn't seem like a good pass time," Loki replied with a sly grin.

Your eyes practically bulged out of your head, "What?"

A/N I've had this idea in my drafts for so long...so it's amazing to finally have something to post. This is probably going to be a short story, maybe 5 or 6 part at most.

This takes place in season 1, episode 2 of the Loki series; before Pompeii. Mobius took Loki and a team of hunters to a Nexus event on some inhospitable planet that had only one infrastructure – a prison that was supposed to house the galaxy’s most dangerous criminals. Every single criminal and prison guard had been executed and the prison ransacked. Mobius and Loki were supposed to investigate before the branched timeline collapsed, but a trap poisoned Loki and a (female) Hunter, causing them to fall into their baser instincts…

Or, in other words, a sex pollen, drug-induced, rough sex fanfic that can either be a self-insert, or an original female character, depending on your own interpretation.

With the context of season 2 and Mobius unnecessarily taking Loki to go get kettle corn this is really funny. He was literally ready to take a detour to go ride a hot air balloon.

Also I don't think that it's because Mobius wasn't taking the mission seriously, watching them in Pompeii, it's very clear that Mobius is a total history nerd and gets a lot of joy out of experiencing his surroundings.

There's a time and place for that, of course, but he hadn't allowed himself to experience the places he visited before out of fear of screwing up the timeline, season 2 is the first time Mobius has been outside the TVA and actually been allowed to choose what to do.

oh wow can I just say every single moment shared between them? Haha

in all seriousness here are a few

When Mobius tells Loki "that’s not how I see it" after Loki calling himself a villain. Mobius showing Loki right from the start that he knows everything he has done, and still doesn’t see him as a bad person. He accepts him for who he is.

the tie scene! Mobius being exasperated with Loki, and Loki being so shamelessly flirty is just *chefs kiss*

the "you can be whoever, whatever you want to be. Even someone good" it speaks for itself really. Such a defining moment for both of them.

the pruning scene, pure angst . The way Mobius steps forward to protect Loki, the shuddering breath before he speaks. And then Lokis utter devastation after he loses Mobius.

the hug! That was everything 😭🙏🏻

pompeii scene was so sweet, seeing the forces of order and chaos in full swing.

the salad scene. Particularly when Mobius finally cracks and laughs. They are just so cute.

Among the many, many things I hate about the Loki series there is the fact Loki is so unbearably sad all the time. He feels out of sorts, out of place, out of chances and ultimately out of hopes from beginning to end. He’s suffering the whole damn time, trying to keep it together by frayed ends and no one seems to see how utterly tragic this is. I mean, people who say we OG!Loki fans don’t like to see him happy, wtf??? When in the series did he seem happy to you? (don’t answer, though, I read your reasonings and all are utter madness).

I mean, OOC aside (that’s another can of worms that was discussed elsewhere), he seems so lost. From beginning to end. The only moment he seems to have regained a tiny bit of autonomy... no, there isn’t a moment like that at all. He’s always forced by circumstances, he’s at the complete mercy of the plot around him and the people who force their will or views on him and he knows.

“Everything is meaningless" he shouts in Pompeii, because it is and he knows he has no choices or chances to be his own self. Like he never did.

And the real tragedy is that the series doesn’t try to give his autonomy back, no sir, but it tries to build a huge box around him and label it with “narcissist, evil, villain“ and Loki is simply forced to keep up with that, to accept that to survive. Even in his interactions with the presumptive “love interest“ and “friend“ (I hate them both and loathe both ships) he always feels like he knows he isn’t allowed to be himself, that they decided who he must be and what his intentions may be, so he just says what they want to hear but you can tell from how he moves and looks and behaves that actually, truly, he’s just trying to survive the last terrible hand life had dealt him with.

There is only one moment in which I could see a glimpse of the real original Loki and it’s when he’s all alone, watching the rest of the footage of his never-been (for him) life, a handful of minutes in comparison to a whole series in which he should have been the main force and end up winner at the end... instead he’s just dragged by the events.

So damn sad and that’s not the Loki I wanted to see.
