#Pokémon world tournament
professor-blue-oak · 14 days ago
Hey professor, do you happen to know of any openly trans trainers or gym leaders ect? I want to make it into the big leagues but I dont wanna be judged for being trans
There’s Piers and Bede, both ftm. The new Viridian Gym Leader, Bree, is actually mtf. I’ve met them a few times since they needed help and information on how to run the place.
Don’t worry about being the way you are. The whole League itself is pretty accepting, no matter where you come from or identify as.

My theory on why Giovanni is in the PWT in Pokémon BW2
So, we all know that Giovanni is in the Kanto Leaders tournament in the PWT instead of Blue, who instead competes in the Champions tournament. The question is: why is a wanted man and a former Gym Leader allowed to participate in the PWT? My personal headcanon is that after being defeated by the player in the Kanto games, Giovanni goes into his solitary training to become a better trainer (as per what he says after you defeat him in his gym), and later reforms and regains his position as the Viridian City Gym Leader by the time BW2 came.
Let’s also consider the fact that Blue has been seen travelling to other regions, like Kalos and Alola. Why is a Gym Leader travelling all over the world instead of staying in his Gym all day and waiting for challengers? The answer is that Blue probably was no longer a Gym Leader by then. Perhaps Blue later became a Champion again, after Red left, explaining why Blue is part of the Champions League in the PWT (I know that the more likely reason is that it’s because Blue is the Champion that you face in the Kanto games). He then becomes a travelling champion just like Cynthia, visiting the other regions. This would have to take place after HGSS.
The Viridian City Gym then becomes vacant again, and the now-reformed Giovanni returns to reclaim his former position as the Ground-type Gym Leader of the gym. He then starts his new life as a gym leader instead of a mafia boss.
I like to imagine that the Giovanni from Pokémon Origins is the same person as this Giovanni; the one who tells Red that he will no longer be the boss of Team Rocket, but simply the Gym Leader of Viridian City, and insisted on handing the badge to him despite Red claiming that he was not battling Giovanni as a Gym Leader.
Yeah, Giovanni still says mean stuff in BW2, like saying that he will make you experience a world of pain for your insolence like in the Kanto games, but I think that’s just him being bitter over the fact that he got beaten by at least 3 kids in the past (Red/Leaf/Chase/Elaine and Blue in the Kanto games, and Ethan/Lyra in HGSS). The fact that he’s officially allowed to participate in the Kanto Gym Leader tournaments suggests that he probably officially became a Gym Leader again.
I felt that he did have the potential to reform, and that he can be a pretty nice person - he accepts defeat graciously in the Kanto games and gives you his badge and a useful TM, and in Pokémon Masters, he recognises your strength with your partner, and also mentioned in his event that he wanted to change his ways, and compete fair and square in the PML.

The Giovanni from USUM is supposedly from another timeline where he succeeded in his plans, so that Giovanni isn’t the same as the one from the Kanto games/HGSS/BW2. (For some reason, Pokémon is starting to sound like the Zero Escape series)
All of this is just pure speculation, but I like the idea of him going from being a mafia boss to just a simple fedora-and-trenchcoat-wearing Ground-type Gym Leader. It doesn’t help that Giovanni is one of my favourite Pokémon characters 🤩
Update (21/4/21): I happened to find this piece of official BW2 merch featuring the 8 Kanto Gym Leaders during the BW2 timeline. It shows Giovanni as the 8th Gym Leader together with the rest of them, and it has Janine on there instead of Koga, showing that it’s definitely the post-HGSS roster. Just thought it’s really cool, and that it supports my theory of the newly-reformed Giovanni returning to his original post as the Viridian Gym Leader.

Victor/Inteleon/Rotom
It's been a while since I formulated a story taking place in the Pokemon Universe, I even started making some arts (already posted here on the tag #PWTC) but I will probably never take this idea forward.
This is another conceptual art of the project, showing a tennage Victor with Inteleon and Rotom.

This mysterious challenger is certainly intriguing. They were able to defeat Rosa, that woman who defeated Team Plasma and defeated N and his legendary Pokemon. It certainly was a close match though, as Rosa was able to defeat four of this challenger’s team, and was almost able to defeat the Golurk if it wasn’t for phantom force. Still no way of knowing the last Pokemon yet...

perish song... HmmMmm i wonder how that links tour fic 🤩
in truth the pokemon aus are part of a little series ive had on my mind since i decided to write fic for hq! i know a fair bit abt pokemon (ive seen the anime + movies up til the end of the sinnoh region and experienced every region besides the newest one, not to mention the side games ive played,,,) and tho the idea of a pkmn series has its roots in my kpop days, i figured to carry it over and add a bunch of stories to it LMAO
the reader in each story (except one, but you could read it as a standalone so it doesnt matter too much) is different and a few of the fics take place at different points in the timeline. theres an event known as the pokemon world tournament that some (like kags and oiks) are working towards but some of the fics have anything to do with them!!
heres the planned timeline thus far:
last resort (yamaguchi) + defeatist (tsukishima) + swords dance (nishinoya) + venom drench (suguru)
untitled (daichi)
heart swap (sugawara)
doom desire (kageyama)
perish song (oikawa)
weakness policy (kuroo)
double team (hinata)
each title comes from a move/ability/item bc i physically cannot resist outing myself as a pokemon fan at any given moment 💔💔💔

Pokemon World Tournament headcanons
The PWT is basically the Pokemon version of the Olympics. Similarly every four years it's hosted by a different region.
The tournament was originally hosted in the host region's Pokemon League or Battle Frontier, but after Unova built a new arena just to host it, that became the norm for other regions as well.
During the time leading up to Unova's PWT the region built many different attractions such as the Marine Tube and Black Tower/White Tree Hollow to not only draw tourists to Driftveil City, but to the rest of Unova as a whole.
Anyone can register to enter the PWT, but the vetting process is known for being extraordinary tough, to the point that only gym leaders, elite four members, champions, frontier brains, and professional trainers qualify.
Though the single and double battle events are the main attractions, the tournament also hosts triple, rotation, and battle frontier-specific challenges.
After the PWT, Unova's new stadium became used as a normal stadium and event center.
Though Sinnoh's Battle Frontier existed before the PWT, after hosting the event roughly 10 years ago the revenue generated allowed the frontier to expand from just the battle tower to four more additional battle facilities.
Alola has never been a host because they only recently established their Pokemon League.

The champions of Let’s GO will not be left out (just Chase, because his design is just a copy of Red but more boring).

I'm thinking of starting a story involving Pokemon, I don't know if I'll even go ahead with it but to begin with it involves me redesigning all the protagonists of the games as adults and the champions.
First the Kanto Champions, starting with Red.

Relaunch with a new collectible card game in 2020 is not a simple thing, and that's what Bandai with Digimon is trying to do in part, in a year in which it has begun to refresh the environment totally.
Beyond the difficulties due to the Covid situation, the world of collectible card games is truly vast. From brands that bet everything on them, I think of Yu Gi Oh or Magic, to others that "exploit" them as a support to the main activity, see Pokémon and the same Digimon. Net of skeptics, the new Digimon card game has immediately attracted the attention of the fandom worldwide. Immediately after the release of the first Starter Deck in Japanese many users have moved to translate the cards and find a way to play online. In fact, Bandai has not yet released an app to play online, the only official app released is a tutorial application to learn how to play where you can only make preset matches. And at a time when every trading card game has its own online version through the app many users have felt this lack, perhaps because of the difficulty in being able to find the cards or in finding people to play with given the situation due to Covid that we are going through.
And it is from this need that was born the project of ABitNerd, which around October 2020 began to program a fanmade simulator of the card game with the dynamics of the game automated (memory calculation, draws activated by effects, boost or nerf DP, etc. ...). At the official release of the game, at the beginning of the project you could play only by paying the Patreon of the project, there was immediately a lot of appreciation, net of some bugs that were still corrected in a few days, the project received more and more followers day by day. The strength of it was the ability to do a random matchmaking to quickly find an opponent and play so when you wanted, something very convenient given the times we live. The game was not, however, without flaws: it was easy to missclick, out-of-phase elements that without attention risked to make the wrong target of attacks or effects, also the lack of chat or timer could make games last for a long time for inactivity of one of the two players.
The project has however seen its closure on March 23, 2021 at the behest of Bandai itself that has contacted the producer of the fanmade asking the closure of the game, under penalty of legal action. ABitNerd tried to open negotiations but eventually gave in to Bandai's demands. The reasons for this action by the Japanese company can be mainly traced to two. The first is that although the game was fanmade and available for free was still present a Patreon access, which through monthly subscription allowed to have content in preview. This is a serious violation because fanmades dedicated to existing brands should not be for profit. The second reason, and probably more important, is that Bandai wants at the moment the game to be played mainly, if not solely, through the real cards. It is no coincidence that from April all official tournaments will be played in video call with physical cards, and no longer on sites that recreate the game table as Untap. Will also dictated by economic factors due to the sale of cards, limited by the worldwide pandemic.
In conclusion, as the ABitNerd project has shown, an official and enjoyable platform, which for example Untap is not, that allows to play a virtual version of the card game could help to increase the popularity of the game. It's also true that this kind of applications are often free to start and probably Bandai didn't feel ready for something like this, just think that an English version of the game was not immediately planned. But this doesn't mean that in the future it won't be developed and distributed, and the presence of a tutorial app bodes well. And perhaps the firmness with which Bandai wanted to block the simulator fanmade by ABitNerd is because he anticipated future plans. We must not forget that we are still at the beginning and we must be patient.

hi <3 i wrote a fucking essay i am so sorry in advance it’s my “english was the only subject i was good at so i overperformed in it to compensate” brain. also I haven’t written an essay in like a year and a half so my mind was like “hmm yes essay time”
Anyway here’s some Digimon Lore because i am sick and TIRED of fuckers going “waaaah digimon ripped off pokemon!!!!”
enjoy
It’s a common belief that Digimon is a rip-off of Pokémon. The similarities between the two aren’t easy to overlook; both feature cute monsters with unique bonds to humans, both feature monster battles, and both feature some sort of “save-the-world” plot. While Digimon is widely thought to have directly copied Pokémon, it’s far from the truth - Digimon was inspired by something completely different.
Tamagotchis were released in late 1996 by Bandai, and they were immediately loved worldwide. Despite the high popularity and large amount of sales, Bandai began to worry that Tamagotchis were too “girly”, and thus boys (or their parents) would not buy them. Looking to make even more money, Bandai created V-Pets, which were marketed as a “for boys” Tamagotchi, in which you take care of your Digital Monster - or Digimon - so that it can evolve and eventually battle higher-leveled Digimon.
The main difference between Tamagotchis and V-Pets is that Tamagotchis were focused around taking care of the Tamagotchi just for the fun of it, whereas the V-Pets were focused around training the Digimon and evolving them as much as you could.
Botch Tamagotchis and V-Pets can have the monsters get sick (and even die), but a unique feature to V-Pets was that if there were too many care mistakes, the Digimon would evolve into a “failure” evolution. These failure evolutions are typically “undesirable” Digimon, since for the most part they’re designed after a generally unappealing creatures or subjects (slugs, garbage, poop). If your Digimon evolves into a failure evolution and you continue to neglect it, it will most likely die within a few days. If your Digimon evolves to a failure evolution and you decide to start properly taking care of it, it can evolve again into an even stronger Digimon. However, these Digimon are not as strong as non-failure Digimon of the same level, and are still more susceptible to illness and death. V-Pets never grew to the same popularity level in the west as Tamagotchis, but they’re still dearly loved in Japan - and even sparked the creation of a manga based off of them.
In 1998, two years after the initial release of the Tamagotchi, Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01 was released. Starring a young boy named Taichi, who wanted to compete in a V-Pet tournament but was unable to participate due to his V-Pet not being recognized as a real Digimon, the manga ran for 58 chapters and ended in August of 2003.
Taichi attempts to fight the winner of the tournament after it is over, desperate to prove himself, but their battle ends in a tie, which should be impossible. Later, he is summoned to another world, where he meets the Digimon in his V-Pet, Zeromaru the Veedramon. Taichi discovers that this world - the Digital World - is full of Digimon, and that the Digimon in the V-Pets are real living beings. After a perilous adventure, Taichi manages to defeat the great evil he was called upon to defeat, with the help of Zeromaru and several other children just like him.
V-Tamer, in its turn, sparked the development of an anime series focusing around a similar concept - seven children are transported to the Digital World and meet a group of Digimon who help them defeat whatever is threatening their world. This anime is Digimon Adventure, and is currently the most popular and well-known Digimon series. The success of Adventure led to more anime seasons, most of which take place in completely different settings and worlds. Digimon games have also become increasingly popular, the most notable example being Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, with more than 1.5 million sales worldwide.
Digimon is huge in Japan, just like V-Pets, but it’s still relatively unknown globally - most people have heard of it, but few have seen it. This may partially be because of how difficult it is to watch it; the first three seasons were on Netflix a few years ago, but have been removed since, and currently the only legal way to watch it is through Hulu.
While there are similarities between Pokémon and Digimon, at the end of the day the truth is that they were both inspired by completely different things. Pokémon was introduced through the Pokémon Red and Green games for the Game Boy, whereas Digimon started as a counterpart to Tamagotchi. Both of the franchises have continuously drawn inspiration from each other throughout the decades; neither of them are completely original, and neither of them are a rip-off of the other. Digimon and Pokémon are both wonderful, and although everyone has their own opinions on which one is better, hopefully one day it will be widely known that Pokémon is not inherently superior just because it came first.
this is. genuinely super interesting. I've heard that digimon were a counterpart to tamagotchi before but I forgot that fact until now lol. The concept of the original manga sounds SUPER cool and tbh I'd love to read it one day.
I may have sent it to you before but I think you'd love the polygon video "What if digimon won?" which is an insight to both digimon and pokemon, and the person speaking- Jenna, my beloved- theorizing what would've happened if digimon gained the popularity pokemon did, and what wouldve come out of it if pokemon was seen as a rip off of digimon, and not vice versa. I thought it was super cool and interesting and I love Jenna and polygon as a whole so! You should check it out if you haven't already. That video also talks about how digimon began as a tamagotchi n stuff, I think you'd enjoy it if you haven't seen it already.
That being said, I love you zode!!! Sorry I cant watch digimon on fridays w yall anymore but I'm gonna try my best to keep up w it! Also I'm planning on beginning to read mania soon but I'm paralyzed by the prospect of starting something new atm lmao. I have a bunch of digimon related stuff on my ever-growing to do list, not the least of which is redraw miguel, design katie and Jaxs digis evo lines, and I wanna make some digimon themed kandi soon!!! Itll happen soon I swear
