An Execution
Pairing: Thranduil x F!Reader
Genre: Angst/comfort
Description: When you’re forced to witness an execution performed by the man you love, Legolas shields you from the sight, but Thranduil still has to reassure you later.
Warnings: Beheading (not graphic), mentions of assault.
Word count: 1148
The man leered at you from where he knelt in the middle of the ring of elves.
You took a breath, averting your gaze to somewhere over his soon-to-be-detached head and failed to notice the worried glance from the elf beside you.
Legolas glanced between you, the human who had his father so smitten, and said father. Truth be told, he didn’t think you should be here. Yes, according to the customs you had to be here, seeing as you were the one the man had attacked, but he could also see the faint tremor in your stance, and he hated that you had to see his father in a light you’d never had to see before.
His father was happy, more than he had been in years, because of you, and Legolas was terrified that this would scare you off once and for all, leaving his father heartbroken once again.
When you’d gone to Dale with Thranduil, the man had taken one look at your close proximity to the king and the adoring gaze he looked at you with and seen his chance at revenge against the elves who’d ‘caused’ his sister's death.
It hadn’t been hard for him to corner you when you got separated from the other elves at the marketplace. You’d been drawn to the stall filled with flowers at the edge of the marketplace and he’d taken his chance, convincing you that he had some rare flowers the stall didn't offer in his wife’s garden. No need to mention that he didn’t have a wife.
After that you were just lucky that Thranduil had sent someone to find you, and the bruises that had quickly formed around your throat and your hysteric state were evidence enough for Bard to agree to hand over the man to the elves' justice system.
Those same bruises still stood out against your skin, your dress doing nothing to cover them up. You shivered, although the air was warm, thoughts racing through your head as the man’s sentencing crime was read out.
Were you about to be responsible for someone’s death? Yes, he was a horrible man, and yes, you’d never asked for his execution, but you hadn’t argued against it either. You’d even felt a sick sort of relief at the decision to end the man's life.
Your breathing picked up and you felt your hands begin to sweat as the gleaming sword was handed to Thranduil, your lover stepping towards the man, whose dark, leering eyes were still on you.
This was his own fault, you knew that, Thranduil had drilled it into your head that nothing was your fault for days afterwards. The law of the elves said that harm or assault towards one of their own was met with execution, and while it warmed your heart that the elves of Mirkwood thought of you as one of them, part of you still felt sick. Felt like you were to blame. You’d followed him, hadn’t you? Left those who were to keep you safe behind without a second thought?
The blade was lined up with the man's throat, the man’s eyes drilled into yours and you couldn’t look away.
The blade was pulled back. It swung forwards.
You let out a gasp as arms wrapped around your shoulders, spinning you around so your face was pressed into a green covered shoulder as the sound of metal swung through the air and a dull thud was heard.
Legolas met his father’s eyes over your head as you trembled against him, and saw the gratitude in his father’s eyes.
Gratitude that you hadn’t had to see this side of him.
~
When Thranduil entered your shared chambers you were in the same place you had been since you had been escorted back hours before.
You were perched in the middle of the bed, knees pulled to your chest. You startled when he moved into your line of vision and he inwardly winced. This was exactly what he’d been afraid of.
He paused at the end of the bed, thankful that he’d made sure no blood was left on his robe, before he sat down on the edge, holding out a hand to you.
He held his breath, watching as you eyed his hand, the same hand the sword had swung from, before taking it and moving to sit beside him at the end of the bed.
You were both silent for a moment before he spoke, quietly, as if afraid of startling you. “I’m sorry you had to be there for that.”
“It’s okay.” You murmured. “Legolas made sure I didn’t see it.”
“Yes,” He squeezed your hand. “I thanked him for that.” He hesitated before continuing. “He was worried you would want to leave if you saw me like that.”
“Like what?” You murmured. “Like a king doing his duty?”
Thranduil swallowed. “Like a monster.”
You snapped your head around to look at him. Did he honestly think..?
“No,” You hurried to reassure him. “You're not a monster. You were just…”
“Just what?” His piercing eyes met yours and you were unable to look away. “Just ending somebody’s life without a single ounce of sympathy? Because I don’t regret ending that man’s life. I only regret doing it with you there.”
“I don’t expect you to.” You whispered, falling silent again.
Thranduil sighed, bringing your hand up to his mouth to place a lingering kiss on your knuckles. “That man deserved everything he got. It is not your fault that he chose you to take out his anger on, nor that he got caught.”
You swallowed. “He said… he said that he had a sister… that the elves killed her.”
“I know.” He hummed. “It is not the first time I have seen that man. His sister fell into the enchanted river when they were children sneaking out to explore. Legolas’ patrol found them and pulled her out but it was too late. She drowned and he has blamed us ever since.”
“Oh, that’s horrible.” You whispered, feeling a sudden wave of sympathy.
He looked at you sharply. “That does not excuse his actions towards you. There are elves in this kingdom who have lost family because of humans and yet they do not condemn you for being human, do they?”
You sighed. You knew he was right. You leaned against his side. “I know. I just don’t like feeling responsible for someone’s death.”
He turned to press a kiss to your forehead. “You're not. And I don’t care if it takes years, I will prove it to you in every way possible, until it doesn’t even cross your mind.”
“I love you.” You whispered, not knowing what to say. Never before had someone been this dedicated to your feelings.
“And I love you, you silly human.” He murmured back. “Now let me show you how much.”

Yandere Smaug Headcanons (platonic)
Tumblr media
Smaug would be extremely possessive of his darling and just as protective. They are the most valuable possession amongst his hoard after all, his most precious treasure. Their worth is more than all the gold and jewels in the world to him. So much so that he could never part with them. That’s why he insists, or rather demands you stay amongst his hoard, where he knows it’s safe. Besides, you’re surrounded by so many beautiful, shiney things and they’re all yours.
Of course you would be kept in the safety of his sanctum after he’s taken the Lonely Mountain for himself. Harbored amongst all the gold, gems and jewels you couldn’t possibly think of, right where Smaug wants you most. He couldn’t possibly fathom any harm coming to his precious one, not when you have him to protect you.
Smaug is extremely strict about allowing his precious one to go anywhere, even if it is to venture off to another part of his sanctum. He doesn’t like not having them within his sight. He hates the thought of them getting hurt or lost, but he especially despises the idea of them ever stepping foot outside his lair. If that were to ever happen his panic and anger couldn’t possibly be repressed.
If his darling were to stray too far or is gone just a little too long for his liking/comfort, Smaug will follow their scent and drag them back to where he feels most comfortable keeping having them. There are very few places he allows them to venture to and he knows them all by heart, being more than capable to go after them if need be and easily retrieve his darling, bringing them back to the only real space he’s comfortable with them staying kept in. It keeps them closest to him and he can keep his eye on them in every sense of the word, even when he’s sleeping he’ll know if they make even the slightest of changes in their usual movements. Smaug is very well aware of his environment and the space he’s resigned himself to, he’ll know if they take even just one step out of the perimeter he’s allowed them to move freely about.
As much as he spoils his darling, Smaug really only rewards good and obedient behavior. Anything less than or just blatant disobedience won’t be take lightly. Smaug demands respect, especially from his little darling. It’s because of him that you are safe and so well taken care of, the least you can do is show some gratitude and appreciation towards him.
As gruff and grumpy as Smaug can be there are times he can be quite playful with his little darling, especially if it’s what they want and they’ve been pretty well behaved. It didn’t take him long to realize that often then not when his darling would venture off and stray away from where he demanded they stay kept was to solely get him to chase after them in a playful game of tag or hide and seek. He can usually tell the difference in whether his darling is trying to make a run for it or is simply trying to get him to play with them. It’s the gigging that really gives it away.
Not only can Smaug be playful but he’s also an excellent storyteller. When he really wants some peace and quiet or to just get his darling to go to sleep in general, Smaug will use his tail to bring them close to him, curling it around them to keep them in place then he goes on telling them stories of his adventures. Sometimes when his darling is really restless he’ll ask them what story they want to hear but more times then not his stories usually involve him boasting and bragging about himself. He especially takes care to make it clear to his darling that he is in fact the biggest dragon to ever exist. Of course it’s a complete lie but his darling doesn’t know that, and even if they were to question him about it he wouldn’t let up. As far as Smaug’s concerned he is the biggest dragon around now.
As much as Smaug typically comes off as aloof or even flat out terrifying he does hold some genuine care for his darling, even if it is just a little. His obsession is primarily possessive with that possessiveness only becoming all the worse the more his obsession festers and grows. Eventually his darling will become something more than just an object for him to own, they’ll become a treasure he certainly doesn’t want anyone or anything else getting ahold of. And with that said he will do anything to keep them with him, and only with him. He will reign hellfire down on anyone or anything that dares to steal his darling treasure away from him.

Entwined Realms || Legolas
Summary: Request: So I thought about this idea with Legolas x reader where the reader is the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn (which makes her princess of Lothlorien and a very high elf) and she is nervous because its commonly known that Galadriel and Thranduil dont like each other (she is still his superior but you get the point) and the reader and Legolas have a dinner or some council or something together with their parents.
A/N: This was one of my favs to write. Just love everything LOTR... please keep them coming! Thank you for the request @lillisummers
Pairing: Legolas x Female Reader
Word Count: 4.1k +
TW: Talks of war/death
Tumblr media
In the timeless realm of Lothlórien, you, the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn, walked among the golden trees with a heavy heart filled with the weight of ancient grudges. It had been many years since you last tread upon these familiar paths, for you had spent much of your time in Rivendell, aiding in the healing of those who bore the scars of war.
As a princess of the high elves, you bore the burden of your lineage with grace. Yet the tension between your mother and Thranduil, the Elvenking of Mirkwood, weighed heavily upon you. The animosity between them was no secret, and you often found yourself caught in the midst of their disagreements. You were torn between loyalty to your mother and the desire for unity among your people after the war of the ring. Your return to Lothlórien had been sudden, called back by your father during the darkest days of the war. The news of battles raging across middle earth had filled you with dread. Yet, you knew that your place was by your family's side, lending whatever aid you could in the struggle against the darkness.
Despite the discord that lingered between your realms you held onto hope, believing in the power of unity to overcome adversity. The memories of Celebrian's capture and torture haunted you still. She drove your determination to see an end to the suffering that had plagued your people for so long.
As you walked beneath the golden canopy of the trees, you found solace in the familiar sights and sounds of Lothlórien. The gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze, the soft glow of the evening sun filtering through the branches. They spoke to you of peace and beauty, reminding you of all that was worth fighting for in this world. Your steps carried you towards a familiar spot. The quiet glade where the gravestones of those fallen in battle lay. The air was hushed. The only sound was the soft whisper of leaves and the gentle trickle of water from the nearby streams.
Stopping by the gravestones, you traced your fingers over each weathered stone, feeling the weight of loss settle upon your heart. Here, beneath the earth, lay the brave souls who had given their lives in service of a greater cause. A cause that you had fought for alongside them. Your thoughts turned to Haldir, the gallant Marchwarden who had stood by your side in the darkest of times. His laughter, his kindness, his unwavering loyalty… they were memories that you held dear, memories that would live on long after he had passed from this world. At one point you were convinced you would marry him but that was before he was taken so suddenly from you.
Closing your eyes, you allowed yourself a moment of silence. A moment to remember those who had been taken from you too soon. Their faces flashed before your eyes, friends, fighters, and loved ones alike. Each one leaving behind an indelible mark upon your soul. And yet, amidst the sorrow, there was also hope. Hope for a future where their sacrifices would not be in vain. Where the darkness would be banished for good and the light would shine so brightly once more. With a silent prayer upon your lips, you vowed to carry their memory with you always, to honor their legacy in all that you did.
As you stood amidst the gravestones, lost in memories and reflections, a soft voice broke through the silence. She was calling your name. You turned to see your mother, Galadriel, approaching with a gentle smile upon her lips. Her eyes, always so wise and knowing, held a depth of understanding that eased the ache in your heart.
"Y/n," she said, her voice like the gentle rustle of leaves in the wind, "I have been searching for you. It is good to see you home again. You look well my love."
You returned her smile, feeling a sense of warmth and comfort wash over you at the sight of her familiar face. "It is good to be home, Mother," you replied, stepping forward to embrace her.
Galadriel held you close, tight. Her arms a reassuring embrace amidst the turmoil of emotions swirling within you. "You have been missed, my dear," she said softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
As you pulled away, Galadriel's gaze softened. Her eyes filled with a mixture of pride and affection. "There is much to discuss," she said, her voice taking on a more serious tone. "But first, I have news that I believe will bring you much joy."
Curiosity piqued, you listened as Galadriel spoke of the upcoming marriage between your niece, Arwen, and Aragorn, the King of Gondor. The news filled you with a sense of anticipation, the prospect of a wedding bringing a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness that had shrouded middle earth for so long. "I would be honored to attend," you said. Your heart swelling with love for your family and excitement for the joyous occasion to come.
Galadriel smiled, her eyes sparkling with pride. "I had no doubt that you would," she said, her voice tinged with warmth. "Come, let us return to Caras Galadhon and begin preparations. There is much to do, and little time to waste." She motioned you to follow her.
With a nod of agreement, you fell into step beside your mother. It felt as though the weight of grief and loss lightened by the promise of love and celebration on the horizon. As you walked the golden light of Lothlórien illuminated your path guiding you towards a future filled with possibility.
Too quickly the day of celebration arrived. The grand halls of Minas Tirith were adorned with banners and flowers, filling the air with a sense of festivity and anticipation. You, dressed in your finest elven attire, mingled with the guests. Your heart was aflutter with excitement and nerves for your niece and the King of Gondor. Amidst the bustling crowd, your eyes scanned the faces of those gathered taking in the sight of strangers and acquaintances alike. And then your gaze met that of a mysterious elven stranger across the ornate courtyard who you did not recognize.
His eyes were a captivating shade of blue. They held a warmth and kindness that drew you in, sending a shiver down your spine. For a brief moment it felt as though the world around you had faded away leaving only you and this enigmatic stranger in a universe of your own making. But as quickly as the moment had come, it was gone. Broken by the sound of laughter and music drifting through the air you tore your gaze away. Your cheeks flushed with a mixture of curiosity and excitement, heart racing with the memory of that brief but electrifying encounter.
Though you knew not who he was, nor what fate had in store for you. You couldn't shake the feeling that this chance meeting was somehow significant. And as you allowed yourself to be swept away by the joyous festivities you couldn't help but wonder about the identity of the mysterious elven stranger who had captured your attention with a single glance.
As the celebration unfolded you found yourself standing beside Arwen, basking in the glow of her happiness as she greeted guests and well-wishers. The air was filled with laughter and music. The joyous atmosphere infectious as people celebrated the union of Arwen and Aragorn. But amidst the revelry your attention kept drifting back to the beautiful blonde elf who had caught your eye earlier. He stood amidst a group of guests, his presence commanding and his gaze holding a quiet intensity that seemed to draw you in.
Unable to contain your curiosity any longer you turned to Arwen with a hint of nervousness in your voice. "Arwen," you began, pointing subtly towards the mysterious elf, "who is that?"
Arwen followed your gaze, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she noticed your interest in the stranger. "Ah, him," she said, her tone tinged with mystery. "That is Legolas, Prince of Mirkwood."
Legolas. The name echoed in your mind. Though you knew little about him there was something about the way he carried himself, the way his eyes seemed to hold a thousand untold stories that intrigued you beyond measure. As Arwen spoke of Legolas' exploits and noble deeds you found yourself captivated by the tales of his courage and valor. And though you knew it was foolish to be so taken with a stranger, you couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more to him. Something that called to you on a level you couldn't quite understand.
With a grateful smile you thanked Arwen for indulging your curiosity. Though your mind was already consumed with thoughts of the mysterious Prince of Mirkwood. And as you turned your attention back to the festivities you couldn't help but wonder what secrets lay hidden beneath the surface of the captivating blonde elf who had captured your attention with a single glance.
As the evening wore on, the atmosphere grew more relaxed. You found yourself drawn into the lively conversations and laughter that filled the air.
As if he had known your every thought, he had come right up to you. A charming smile playing on his lips as he offered you a goblet of wine. "Care for some wine, my lady?" he asked, his voice smooth and all too inviting.
Grateful for the distraction you accepted the goblet with a smile, the cool liquid soothing the nerves that had been fluttering in your stomach. "Thank you," you replied, taking a sip and relishing the taste of the rich, fruity wine.
As you savored the wine, Legolas took a seat beside you. His eyes alight with curiosity as he extended his hand in introduction. "I am Legolas," he said, his tone warm and genuine. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance."
You felt a rush of excitement at the sound of his name, "And I am Y/n," you replied, your voice betraying a hint of nervousness that you quickly tried to mask.
Legolas smiled warmly at you, a glint of mischief dancing in his eyes as he raised his own goblet in a silent toast. "Well then, Y/n, here's to new acquaintances and delightful conversations," he spoke.
As the evening progressed, you found yourself drawn into conversation with Legolas. His easy charm and quick wit putting you at ease. Despite your initial nervousness you soon found yourself laughing and chatting with him as if you had known each other for years. With each passing moment you felt yourself growing more and more enchanted by Legolas. His presence filling you with a sense of warmth and belonging that you hadn't felt in a long time. Not since before your sister had set sail. And as you shared stories and laughter with the captivating Prince of Mirkwood you couldn't help but wonder what adventures lay in store for you both in the days to come.
When the topic turned to your family, you couldn't help but feel a pang of apprehension, unsure of how he would react upon learning the truth. "Your parents must be proud of you," Legolas remarked, his voice sincere as he glanced around at the grandeur of Minas Tirith. "To have a daughter as kind and courageous as you."
You smiled, touched by his words. Though a part of you hesitated to reveal your true lineage. "Thank you, Legolas," you replied, your voice tinged with uncertainty. "My parents... they are indeed proud, though our family is not without its complexities."
Legolas cocked his head with curiosity shining bright in his eyes. "Complexities?" he asked, his brow furrowing slightly.
You took a deep breath, steeling yourself for his reaction. "My parents are Celeborn and Galadriel," you confessed, watching closely for any sign of recognition or judgment in his expression.
To your surprise, Legolas' eyes widened in genuine surprise, his gaze softening with understanding. "Galadriel," he murmured, a hint of awe in his voice. "The Lady of Light herself. And Celeborn, the Lord of Lothlórien."
You nodded, relieved by his reaction. "Yes, though our family is not without its challenges," you admitted, your voice growing quiet. "There are... tensions between my parents and certain others in Middle-earth." You knew he knew, and he knew you knew. The two of you were dancing around your parents disdain for the other.
Legolas' expression grew somber. A shadow passing over his features. "I understand," he said, his tone tinged with empathy. "My own father, Thranduil, can be... difficult at times."
You felt a surge of empathy for Legolas knowing all too well the challenges that could arise from strained familial relationships. "It seems we are not so different after all," you said. A small smile playing at your lips.
Legolas returned your smile, his eyes warm and understanding. "Indeed," he said, his voice gentle. "But perhaps together, we can find a way to bridge the divide between our families."
Touched by his sincerity you could only keep grinning at him like a fool. "I would like that, Legolas," you replied. Your heart swelled with gratitude for the bond that was beginning to form between you.
As the night wore on into the wee hours of the morning you and Legolas found yourselves drawn deeper into each other's company. The hours quickly slipping away unnoticed as you laughed and talked beneath the starlit sky. The connection between you grew stronger with each passing moment. A bond of friendship and understanding blossoming into something deeper and more profound. Unfortunately, the celebration began to wind down. You found yourselves reluctant to part ways. The prospect of saying goodbye filling you with a sense of melancholy. "Perhaps we could extend our stay in Minas Tirith," Legolas suggested, his voice tinged with a hint of worry as if you wouldn’t accept. "There is still so much more to see and do. I have not seen this city without war disparaging it."
You nodded eagerly, the idea of spending more time with Legolas filling you with a sense of joy and excitement. "I would like that very much," you replied, a smile tugging at the corners of your lips. "There is still so much more we have yet to see. You distracted me tonight."
And so, you and Legolas remained in Minas Tirith for longer than planned, seizing every opportunity to steal away moments alone together amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether wandering the streets hand in hand or sharing quiet conversations in secluded corners. Each moment spent in Legolas' company felt like a precious treasure, a memory to be cherished for eternity.
As your extended stay in Minis Tirith came to an end the bond between you and Legolas deepened further than you could have imagined. Your hearts intertwining in a dance as old as time itself. One evening beneath the stars after your going away dinner the two of you sat together in the quiet solitude of the gardens, surrounded by the scent of blooming flowers and the gentle hum of crickets. The words you had been longing to say spilled forth from your lips.
"Legolas," you began, your voice barely above a whisper, "there is something I must confess to you." It truly was now or never for you did not know the next time you would see the elf that had captured your heart so quickly.
Legolas turned to you, his eyes filled with warmth and affection. "Yes, Y/n?" he replied, his voice soft and reassuring.
"I know this is quick,” you began, your voice soft and hesitant, "And we tend to do this slow, but I must admit... I really like you. More than a friend would."
You glanced away, cheeks flushing with embarrassment as you awaited his response. But when you dared to meet his gaze once more you found Legolas looking at you with a tender smile. His eyes filled with a warmth that mirrored your own feelings.
"Y/n," he said softly, reaching out to gently take your face in his hand, "your honesty means the world to me. I too have come to care for you deeply as well. As more than a friend would."
Your heart soared at his words. A sense of joy flooding through you at the knowledge that your feelings were reciprocated. And as you sat together in the quiet beauty of the gardens you knew that your bond with Legolas was something truly special. It was the beginning of a love story that was just beginning to unfold.
You didn’t want the night to end so you kept your wandering through the gardens. "Legolas," you began, your voice tinged with concern, "what do you think about... our families?"
Legolas glanced at you. His gaze thoughtful. "Ah, our esteemed parents," he replied with a wry smile. "Stubborn as ancient oaks and twice as difficult to move."
You couldn't help but laugh at his analogy, feeling a sense of relief at his lighthearted approach to the situation. "Yes, that's one way to put it," you agreed. A smile playing at the corners of your lips.
"But," Legolas continued, his tone turning more serious, "I believe they will come around in time. After all, love has a way of softening even the hardest of hearts."
You nodded feeling a flicker of hope kindling within you. "I hope you're right," you replied, leaning closer to him. "I just want them to see... how much we care for each other."
Legolas placed a comforting arm around your shoulders, drawing you closer to him. "They will, Y/n," he said softly, his voice filled with quiet confidence. "And until then, we'll just have to prove them wrong together."
As your time in Minas Tirith drew to a close, you couldn't shake the feeling that it was time for your parents and Legolas to meet. Despite the tension between your families, you were determined to show them that love knew no bounds, and that their differences could be set aside in the name of happiness.
On the morning that both of you were to depart you knew what you had to do. "Legolas," you began. Your voice tinged with nervousness, "I know it's unconventional, but... what if you and your father were to visit Lothlórien?"
Legolas blinked in surprise, clearly taken aback by your suggestion. "Visit Lothlórien?" he echoed, his brow furrowing in thought. "It's an... intriguing idea, Y/n, but I'm not sure how my father would feel about it."
You nodded, understanding Legolas' reservations. "I know it's a risk," you admitted, "but I believe that if he could experience the beauty and hospitality of Lothlórien for himself, he might begin to understand... and perhaps even appreciate our way of life."
Legolas considered your words for a moment before a smile spread across his face. "You may be right, Y/n," he said, his eyes alight with excitement. "Let's extend the invitation to my father and see what he says."
With a renewed sense of hope, you and Legolas set about preparing for Thranduil's visit to Lothlórien. You knew it wouldn't be easy, but you were determined to show both him and your parents that love could conquer even the deepest of divides. And so, with hearts full of anticipation and determination, you bid farewell to Minas Tirith. You knew that a new chapter of your journey was about to begin.
Tumblr media
As Legolas and an initially reluctant Thranduil arrived in Lothlórien, the tension between them was palpable. Thranduil's expression was stoic and reserved, while Legolas wore a strained smile who was clearly uncomfortable with the situation. You greeted them warmly, hoping to ease the atmosphere, but even your efforts seemed to fall flat in the face of the lingering animosity between your parents. The initial interactions were awkward only filled with polite but strained conversation and forced smiles.
But as the evening progressed and the wine flowed freely the atmosphere began to shift. Your parents, Thranduil, and Legolas found themselves gradually relaxing in each other's company. The rigid barriers between them slowly melting away under the influence of hope after the war and shared experiences. You watched with a mixture of joy and relief as the tension dissipated, replaced by laughter and genuine conversation. Thranduil who had initially been so guarded found himself opening up. He began to share stories and jokes with Celeborn and Galadriel as if they were old friends.
And Legolas, too, seemed to come alive in the warmth of his father’s acceptance. His smile growing more genuine with each passing moment. It was as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders finally allowing him to truly be himself in their presence. He chuckled at one of Thranduil's jokes and clinked glasses with Celeborn, a genuine smile gracing his features.
In the midst of the conversation Legolas turned to you, his eyes sparkling with affection. "Meleth nin," he said softly, his voice filled with utmost warmth.
As Legolas inadvertently uttered the Elvish endearment, my love, the words hung in the air laden with the weight of unspoken emotions. Your heart skipped a beat at his slip-up, and you couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement coursing through you.
"Really?" you exclaimed. Your eyes widened with surprise and utmost delight. For a moment you almost forgot that your parents and Legolas' father were present too caught up in the rush of emotion that swept over you.
Legolas blinked, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment as he realized what he had said in front of the parents. "I... uh, I mean..." he stammered, clearly flustered by your reaction.
But before he could finish, Thranduil let out a soft chuckle. The elvenking’s eyes twinkling with amusement. "It seems our children are more than just friends," he remarked to your parents. His tone surprisingly light-hearted.
You turned to your parents with a sheepish smile tugging at the corners of your lips. "I guess we should have mentioned that sooner," you admitted feeling a surge of relief as you saw their understanding smiles.
Celeborn and Galadriel exchanged knowing glances before Celeborn spoke up. "Love has a way of revealing itself in unexpected ways," he said, his voice filled with warmth. "We are happy for you both."
Thranduil let out a small chuckle. His eyes crinkling with amusement. "Young love," he said before shaking his head in mock exasperation. "It seems like only yesterday that Legolas was just a boy chasing after butterflies in the woods."
Legolas rolled his eyes playfully at his father's comment. "I assure you, Ada, I have grown up a bit since then," he spoke. His tone teasing but affectionate.
Celeborn chuckled softly his eyes twinkling with mirth. "Indeed," he agreed, his voice warm. "But some things never change." He motioned to you with a knowing grin.
And as the tension melted away completely, replaced by laughter, and shared understanding, you couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the unwavering support of your parents. With their blessing and acceptance, you and Legolas knew that your love story was only just beginning. You were finally destined to have a beautiful and unforgettable journey filled with laughter, joy, and the sweet promise of a future together. You had waited a long time for this. A very long time.
As the night grew deeper and the fire crackled softly, you and Legolas found yourselves immersed in a comfortable silence. The two of you basking in the warmth of each other's presence. Legolas turned to you with a playful glint in his eyes, taking your hand in his. "Well, my dear, it seems the hour grows late," he remarked, his voice soft and warm.
You nodded feeling a surge of affection for the elf beside you. "Yes, it does," you replied, a smile playing at the corners of your lips.
With a gentle tug on your hand Legolas rose to his feet pulling you up with him. "Allow me to escort you to your room," he said. His voice filled with gentle sincerity.
You followed him, the touch of his hand sending a shiver of anticipation down your spine. As you reached your door, Legolas turned to you. His eyes sparkling with mischief. "Until next time, meleth nin," he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to your cheek before turning to leave.
A faint blush coated your cheeks at his actions. “Until next time, meleth nin.” You repeated. You watched him go with a smile playing at your lips as you realized that no matter what adventures lay ahead, you would face them with him. Oh, what a life.

Napping siblings: Thranduil x baby reader x Legolas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age: 6 months. Thranduil is looking for his young son and infant daughter until he found them in his daughter’s room fast asleep and the next morning he, Elrond, Elladan and Elrohir found them asleep again.
Thranduil had just gotten out of a meeting with his butler Galion and a few of his guards.
As they walked down the palace corridor Thranduil noticed that it was quite, to quite for his liking! Because his 8 year old son Legolas and 6 month old infant daughter Y/N are usually causing mayhem and panic in these halls, but his two little children were nowhere in the halls making him panic and ask around the palace as he knew there was trouble when things were to quiet until he was in front of the guards guarding the throne room “do you two know where my children are?” He asked the guards feeling his heart beating so fast as if he was running from orcs “Last I heard they were playing in the princess’s room.” One of the guards answered making Thranduil dash there feeling his parental instincts kicking.
When the king was in front of his daughters nursery he slowly opened the door and peaked his head in to see that the room was empty aside from some toys on the ground but he saw a body in the crib, thinking it was his little girl he slowly walked up to it to check on her but what he saw made his heart almost burst from his chest, there was his son and daughter fast asleep in the crib.
Tumblr media
Legolas had an arm over Y/N’s tiny frame protectively with Y/N’s tiny hands clutching to his tunic, smiling Thranduil let out a tiny chuckle “You two almost gave me a heart attack this afternoon.” he whispered gently until his son let out a yawn and stretched until his hands and head hit the board of the crib then he looked up at his father “Oh good afternoon Ada.” The young prince said until he realized where he was making him blush “How much did you see?” He asked making his father smirk “only a lot of it.” The king said until Y/N’s eyes opened while she let out a gentle squeak then it turn into a happy squeal when she saw her father “Did you enjoyed your nap princess?” Thranduil asked picking up the 6 month old elfling while Legolas managed to get out of the crib by himself “How did you get in there anyways little leaf?” Thranduil asked “I just climbed in.” Legolas answered still recovering from his embarrassment as he stretched a bit to get some feeling back in his sleeping limps.
The next day:
Thranduil was up at 6:00 so he could greet lord Elrond and his sons.
When he and some guards walked out of the palace he saw that the bridge was wet “It did rain last night! And it was thundering a lot too.” The king said to a guard until he saw the lord of Rivendell with his twin son’s walking up the bridge with some guards “greetings Elrond.” Thranduil greeted Elrond who smiled “Hello Thranduil.” Elrond greeted back to his old friend who is the cousin of his Father-in-law “Where are Y/N and Legolas?” Elladan asked not seeing the two elflings “They are probably still asleep.” Thranduil said walking them in “I’ll get Legolas.” The king said as they made their way to the sleeping quarters “Legolas time to wake up.” Thranduil said knocking on the door but he didn’t get an answer “Legolas?” He asked but he still didn’t get an answer so the king slowly peeked his head in but he didn’t see his son “He must be up already.” He said walking to his sons bathing chambers “Legolas! Elladan and Elrohir are here.” He said knocking on the door but didn’t hear a reply “Legolas?” He asked slowly opening the door to see the bathing chamber empty with the clothes Legolas worn yesterday being in the laundry basket “I know exactly where he is.” Thranduil said exiting Legolas’s room with the Rivendell family towards Y/N’s room, he puts a finger to his lips telling them to be quiet as he slowly opens the door.
As they walked in and towards the even younger elflings crib Thranduil has his hands on his hips and lightly chuckles, Elrond is smiling at the sight before him and the twins couldn’t help but snicker at the sight because Legolas was asleep in the crib with Y/N in the same positions as yesterday only they were now in their Pajamas.
Upon hearing the snickering Legolas opens his eyes to see his father with Elrond, Elladan and Elrohir all with amused faces “Um, it was thundering last night and Y/N was crying.” He said as Elladan took him out of the crib while Thranduil took Y/N who had just woken up.
After getting ready for the day and breakfast Legolas went with the twins to train but Y/N had to stay with their father and Elrond in their father’s study since she’s way to young to train.
At the study Thranduil was telling Elrond on what he saw yesterday “Legolas is a great big brother.” Elrond said patting Y/N’s head while She sat on her father’s lap eating a cookie “We… Wegowas.” Said a tiny voice making the ancient elves freeze “What?” Thranduil asked lifting Y/N up “Weg Go Was. Wegowas!” The infant elf spoke making the two adult elves eyes spark “She said her first word! Even though it’s not Ada, but it’s her first word.” Thranduil said tossing his daughter up making her squeal “Ada.” She said making Thranduil tear up “Oh I bet your mother is howling with laughter in her grave.” Thranduil said rubbing noses with his daughter who was giggling up a storm as he tickled her tummyt making Elrond smile and shake his head remembering his own daughter who is still in Rivendell with her mother.

Imagine being a Targaryen and befriending Smaug
Tumblr media
(So, this might be long, but I hope you enjoy it. It has also come to my attention that it’s just easy to write reader gender neutral since I rarely have to specify the gender, but this is male reader)
Requested by @weird-addiction
Warnings: violence, mentions of dead and crushed eggs, mentions of cannibalism, Smaug is kind of a douche, overprotective dragon companion, some fluff, found family kinds of feels, angst, death and war.
----------------------------------------------------------
-After your banishment, you traveled far and wide, avoiding people and hunters who tried to take bounty over your and your dragon’s head. You couldn't let that happen, especially when carrying your dragon’s only egg.
-You could feel through your bond how your dragon, Skarlax, was getting tired from all the constant running and flying. It wouldn’t take long before she got fed up with it and decided to fight your pursuers. You knew it would only end badly, so you had to find a safe place soon.
-Your search led you to a witch, who told you about a place called the edge of the world, where rumors said traveling through the mysterious clouds of the sea would take you to another world. It sounded unbelievable and impossible, but knowing your situation and how desperate you were to find a haven, you took the risk.
-You fed Skarlax and flew into the clouds in the sea. It was a horrid journey. The storm that followed almost took your life, so either the gods decided to be merciful, or you got lucky to survive such a force of nature.
-You found your way to a place called Middle-Earth. It was such a beautiful place, and you could feel yourself wanting to discover all of it. Other Targaryens always thirsted for conquest, but you always preferred to travel and uncover than try to conquer.
-However, you knew you needed to find a home for Skarlax and her egg soon, so you traveled to look for a good home for yourself.
-You found your way to what seemed to be ruins of an old kingdom inside a mountain that stood alone from others. You marveled at the two great statues standing near the entrance, and you couldn't help but walk in – wanting to see more.
-The sight was breathtaking. You walked through the stone halls, taking in the designs and the beauty of the stone murals and the statues. The city was unlike anything you had ever seen before. It was marvelous, especially when it was underneath a mountain.
-You studied the old murals and pictures on the wall, trying to learn the story behind the city and its people. You were surprised when you discovered that dwarves used to live here. You noted the size of the old bones and armor you found, so these dwarves were much bigger and buffer than the dwarves in Westeros, and they were considered a different race, not ordinary people with a defect from birth.
-You were discovering so much, and it made you excited. Skarlax just followed you as you walked around the place.
-You found an old forge. The room was a mess but perfect for incubating Skarlax’s egg. It also had bigger rooms and old chambers nearby, so you and Skarlax didn’t have to sleep in the same room.
-You tried to tidy up the place and prepare a fire until you heard your beloved companion growl and hiss defensively. She was unnerved by something like the place was not safe.
-You had been with her long enough to know the nature of her behavior, so you knew she was not smelling another human or a wild animal. It was another dragon.
-You felt excited that there was another dragon and unnerved because wild dragons were dangerous when they were not fond of humans, so you quickly tried to leave the place rather than trying to find the dragon.
-You almost reached the entrance till you felt the hall shake, and the mysterious dragon showed himself, his scales gleaming red and his eyes burning with golden flames. You were left stunned as you marveled at his size. He was big. He was bigger than the biggest dragon you knew in Westeros, and there was no doubt his wings could cover a whole village in their shadows.
-He was a magnificent specimen, but you left your thoughts elsewhere as he did not look friendly when he looked down upon you.
-One thing you did not expect or think possible – was for him to speak.
-” Well… little rat. Why the rush?” His deep voice shook you to the core.
-You were shocked, unable to utter a word. There has never been a recorded dragon who could speak like a human. It was impossible, but then you remembered that you were in another world, so anything was possible now.
-Oh, how your relatives would have flipped their crowns and heads if they knew there were dragons that could speak.
-You collected yourself and kept eye contact with the dragon. You apologized and tried to tell him you did not mean to invade his home. You thought the kingdom was empty of life.
-He seemed amused by your answers and questions if you had not heard the stories about the dragon that dwelled beneath the lonely mountain, sleeping in the stolen treasures of Erebor.
-You made a quick note of that and explained you were new to these lands and Erebor was your first stop because you wanted to investigate. You had no idea he was there sleeping.
-You introduced yourself out of politeness, and he introduced himself as Smaug.
-You tried to think your words carefully since he seemed to toy with you like a cat with a mouse, except it’s a tiny man and a giant dragon.
-He approached you dangerously like a snake and then noticed the egg that rested against your chest in a pouch. When he saw the egg, he looked agitated and almost demanded to know if you had stolen the egg.
-You tried to tell him the egg belonged to your friend, but he didn’t seem to believe you and seemed ready to burn you alive.
-You were too far away to take cover, so you held your breath as his chest glowed with brilliant light, and he opened his mouth.
-Luckily, Skarlax came to your rescue just in time and attacked Smaug. She stopped him from raining fire upon you by scratching his head. Her smaller size allowed her to fly in the hall and maneuver around the enormous dragon while throwing and dodging the attacks.
-Smaug growled and quickly snatched her tail, throwing her away.
-Skarlax got thrown onto the floor, but she quickly got up, ready to fight. However, you stopped her, speaking to her in High Valyrian and preventing her from making poor decisions.
-You have always admired her determination to fight for you, but even you knew this was a fight she would not win, so your only hope was coercion.
-You calmed her down, then turned toward Smaug, explaining she was your travel companion and the egg you were holding was hers. You were carrying it for her as you traveled to find a safe home for yourself and the hatchling inside.
-You also explained you were from a place where dragons did not speak, so that’s why she was not speaking like him.
-Smaug calmed down and then asked for your story. Since you gained his interest, you happily told him your story and why you were flying around to find a new home for yourself since you got banished from your old one.
-Smaug listened to your story. He looked down upon Skarlax as she was protective of you, and she had a saddle on her back, so he did not have anything nice to say about it. However, he was willing to forgive you for trespassing.
-His race was already under threat of extinction. So he did not wish to harm the egg in your hand and its mother. It would mean he would contribute to the death of his race.
-He then said you could stay in Erebor since it was big, filled with gold, and you could incubate the egg. It would be safer than in the outside world since people feared dragons.
-You agreed to his reasoning since Erebor would make a good home for you and Skarlax’s hatchling.
-You promised you only wanted to care for your companion and her future offspring, so you had no interest in his gold or treasures.
-After that encounter, you finally managed to tie up the old forge and start incubating Skarlax’s egg. Skarlax was not happy with Smaug’s presence inside the mountain, so she was constantly watching the door, guarding you and her egg while having the pissiest face you have ever seen on a dragon.
-You shook your head since she looked like a brooding child, but you understood her protectiveness.
-She was mistrustful toward other dragons because when she had her first clutch of eggs, they were crushed and eaten by the dragon named Cannibal. It crushed your heart when you found her mourning and ready to fight the terrible wild dragon, but you stopped her because you knew she couldn’t have won.
-She didn’t give birth to more eggs for some time – until her mate died in a war. His rider brought him to a hopeless battle, and they both got shot from the sky. It crushed her even more, but she was able to give birth to one egg just when your house decided to banish you from the kingdom.
-You were the only one she trusted, so she allowed you to take it, and you both escaped the kingdom and Westeros.
-It would be awkward in the future when the tension between you and Smaug was this high, so you needed to do something to soften it up.
-After resting through the night, you decided to confront Smaug and talk to him.
-You were nervous when you walked through the stone halls since yesterday’s events were still fresh in your bones. It made you shiver how you almost got burned alive, but when you found the treasury, you were amazed. There were gold, gems, trinkets, and all kinds of treasures everywhere.
-You never thought such a treasury was possible. There was no way gathering all the gold and treasures into one place in Westeros could even fill half of the hall in front of you. You were pretty sure even the riches pigs would sell their soul to have such wealth.
-You concluded Smaug was one of those dragons that hoarded treasures, so you began to look for him and call out for him while stumbling on the hoard of gold.
-You knew Skarlax was watching from the shadows, carefully observing, and ready to act for your safety, so you tried to keep calm when Smaug finally heeded your call and rose from his golden hoard.
-You were still intimidated by his size, but you held your breath and told him you wanted to talk with him – anything to ease the tension and create a good relationship.
-Thanks to your experience dealing with silver-tongued people in court, you made Smaug curious about your homeland and its dragons, so you ended up making a decent conversation.
-He was not fond of the idea of his kin submitting to humans, so you had to give a brief explanation: dragons in your homeland were like your kin – not pets or slaves.
-He found the idea ridiculous but was curious to know more, especially the language you spoke with Skarlax when you calmed her down from attacking him.
-You told him about High Valyria and how it was like a dragon tongue since most dragons in your house don’t listen unless spoken in that language. Smaug kinda liked it and asked if you could teach him some words in your language.
-You were glad. It means you have created a good start, so you visited Smaug often and taught him some words in Valyria, and in return, he taught you something about Middle Earth and other races like elves and dwarves.
-Skarlax was still uncomfortable with his presence and preferred to avoid him. She spent most of the time with her egg after making sure you would be alright by yourself.
-Smaug asked for her story after observing how spiteful she was toward him, like she hated dragons, and you told him how her first clutch of eggs got destroyed by another dragon named Cannibal and how her mate perished in a war.
-Smaug was surprised to hear about Cannibal since it was frowned upon to crush and eat a female dragon’s eggs, so he showed some sympathy. He went out of his way to hunt some prey and offer it to her as a peace offering, trying to show he was not a threat to her or her egg.
-Skarlax was a proud dragon but accepted the offering since she could keep a more watchful eye on her egg.
-You were happy since the tension was slowly decreasing, and Skarlax was slowly softening up to Smaug when he continued hunting for her. You gave Smaug some hints about her favorite food, and it helped make better bonds for them.
-Helping him get Skarlax’s trust gave you a chance to befriend him, and he was comfortable enough with you to talk casually.
-He admitted he grew to enjoy your company just a little since you entertained him with riddles and rumors you heard whenever you left the mountain to gather food and water for yourself.
-You even went out of your way to bring him more treasures to add to his hoard, which helped you grow to a friendship level. It was hard work, but it was worth it.
-After living together for some time, you might have noticed Smaug showing signs of interest in being mates with Skarlax. He kept hunting food for her and sometimes helped with incubating her egg. You liked the idea of them being together, so you wanted to help him since you knew Skarlax better than anyone.
-She might have grown comfortable enough not to fight Smaug upon first chance, but she was still protective of you and her egg, so one way to gain her trust was to show he was trustworthy.
-Smaug didn’t deny he was interested in her and listened to your suggestions.
-It was difficult for him to gain her trust, but when he defended her egg from an intruder. Skarlax slowly cracked down her walls, and even she began to show interest in him.
-You then helped out by giving Smaug hints on how to romance her now the challenging part was over, and one way to do it was by speaking in High Valyria with her.
-You never imagined you would become a wingman for dragons and a third wheel.
-You watched their romance grow and gave them peace by guarding the egg. It was lovely, but you were amused when you watched your proud companion and Smaug become enamored with each other.
-You were first worried when you thought about when they became mates and got into ‘that’ business, but then you remembered Skarlax keeps growing every year, and she was already half of Smaug’s size, so there shouldn’t be any complications.
-The day finally arrived when Skarlax’s egg was finally hatching.
-In your old way, it would take a Targaryen to make an egg hatch, but it wasn’t impossible by naturally incubating. It would only take a long time, so you ran out of the forge when you heard those first cracks.
-You were yelling, and you dug both dragons out of the hoard to tell them the news and make them watch the hatching with you.
-You brought the egg for them to see, and you all watched as the baby dragon finally dug its way out of the shell.
-It was a beautiful little she dragon. She looked like Skarlax, but unlike her mother, the little dragon was purple and red, and her horns and spikes were black. Oddly, she also had gold dusted on her chest and head, which made her look beautiful and like Smaug, in a way.
-Skarlax was purring in delight, and her eyes were filled with love when you brought her hatchling to her. Even Smaug was watching rather lovingly.
-It was a happy moment when you welcomed your newest member to your odd little family.
-Now, the naming part was the hard part. You didn’t know what to call the new hatchling, so it took a long time for all of you to brainstorm some names.
-You gave some name suggestions in Valyria and names that described her color and that, but Smaug was quick to brush them off because he thought your name suggestions, like Amethyst and Hearthfyre, sounded stupid.
-He didn’t have better name suggestions, so you then suggested names in elvish since you have been learning and suggested Malleniel, which technically meant daughter of gold.
-Smaug admitted that the name had a nice ring to it, so you all agreed to call your little hatchling, Malleniel.
-It was a happy time for all of you with Malleniel. You often offered to babysit her, so you two grew close. Skarlax was full of joy to be a mother, and even Smaug sometimes played with her like she was his.
-You were one big happy family. Sometimes you all nap together on the hoard. You cuddle with Maleniel while Skarlax covers you, while Smaug covers all of you. It was uncomfortable to lay on the gold, but you did not mind.
-You thought it would be like this, and you would happily watch Malleniel grow till the old age hits you, but alas, like a curse, your happiness did not last long when they came – the dwarves and the hobbit.
-You were with Malleniel when you saw someone walking through the halls – toward the treasury where Smaug and Skarlax were resting. You were suspicious and prepared with a blade, so you followed the intruder.
-You were surprised to find that it was not a human, but something smaller with very hairy big feet. Your first thought was a dwarf, but you then remembered Smaug telling you they were bigger and had a beard, so you brushed it off and continued observing the creature.
-The little person was odd and frightened to be there. You tried to make sense of him till Malleniel grew impatient on your shoulder and growled, alerting him of your presence.
-He was startled to see you. He was definitely not expecting to encounter a human man, especially a man with a dragon sitting on his shoulders. Your appearance most likely frightened him even more as your silver hair glowed in the dark, and you glared at him with your purple eyes.
-You demanded to know what he was doing in your home, and he was nervous and confused when you referred to the place as your home.
-He tried to question you, but you pushed the questions back at him.
-He introduced himself as Bilbo Baggings. He called himself a hobbit which made you curious because you had never heard about them. You would have asked him more if he was not an intruder.
-You talked for some time as you tried to figure out his purpose in the mountain, and it was clear he was looking for something. You just didn’t know what because he was trying to avoid answering your questions.
-You introduced him to Malleniel and advised him to leave. Smaug was not very keen on visitors right now.
-You were too late to tell him to leave when you felt the room around you shake, and a familiar dragon appeared out of the corner. You knew it was too late for him, so you left Smaug to deal with your visitor.
-You hoped it would be a quick death since you wanted to know him more, but then you hear voices and Smaug being more active. It left you concerned, so you followed the voices and observed how the dwarves avoided and rebelled against Smaug.
-It looked like they were succeeding, so you quickly confronted Smaug before he could go after them.
- ”Smaug!” You called out, stopping in front of him.
He snarled after he got constantly hit with strange bombs before looking down on you and Malleniel.
“(Name). I want you to take Malleniel and return to Skarlax. If things get out of hand, I want you all to leave the mountain,” He said, making your eyes widen at the thought. “But what about you? I could help you!” You said.
“Ensuring Malleniel’s safety should be your first priority. These pests turn out to be more troublesome than I anticipated!” He said with hateful venom in his tone. “So I will not risk Skarlax’s and Malleniel’s life as long as they’re in the mountain,” He explained, then looked down on you softly. “So please, take them to safety for me,” He said, then continued chasing the intruders.
-You felt conflicted as he was part of your family, and you had a bad feeling, but you respected his wishes and went to find Skarlax.
-You stayed hidden with Skarlax. She wanted to join Smaug to chase off the intruders, but she listened to you and kept watch over you and Malleniel.
-You felt the mountain shake and heard Smaug’s roar. He was outside, so you carefully led Skarlax and Malleniel out of the mountain – avoiding the dwarves’ attention and following what was happening next.
-You watched as Smaug was burning the Laketown. He was most likely taking revenge on the intruders, but then you heard him roar in pain and fly in the sky before suddenly falling toward the lake below.
-Your heart stopped at that moment because you knew he was dead.
-Skarlax called out to him in pain, wanting to fly to him but staying beside you as she couldn’t leave you and Malleniel undefended.
-Your mourned and hugged Malleniel, who was confused. You hugged her and cursed the dwarves for killing your friend and taking away one of the most important members of your family.
-Skarlax kept you close, trying to comfort you. She grieved with you till dawn, and the battle for the mountain was beginning.
-You watched as elves and the humans gathered in the city, ready to attack the mountain since the new dwarven king refused to share parts of the treasure even though he promised it to them. You found some irony in that.
-They always said dragons were the greediest creatures on Middle Earth, yet here was a dwarf doing the same.
-One night, you found the hobbit sneaking out of the mountain, and in a fun twist of fate, he dumped you on his way to the city.
-You were not happy to see him because he was also responsible for Smaug’s death, but you did not care enough to harm him.
-Skarlax was near to eating him alive, but you convinced her to stay put, and you two talked for a while. You asked what he was doing, and he explained he intended to give the heart of the mountain to the elves and humans. His friend valued the rock above all else, so it should be able to convince him to open the gate and avoid conflict.
-You found his intentions honorable and brave. You would have done the same if it meant you could have saved Smaug’s life.
-Bilbo showed sympathy when he saw how much Smaug mattered to you and how Malleniel got robbed from a father figure. You brushed his apologies off since it was already too late.
-When he asked why you were still around, you told him you wanted to see the elves and humans break through the walls and see his friend get taken by his creed.
-He asked you if there was a cure for the dragon sickness, but you answered there was no such thing. His friend can only overcome it by himself or let it consume him.
-You allowed him to continue his task, and you watched as the whole thing unfolded in the morning.
-The stubborn dwarf still refused to open the gate, and you waited for the moment to see the battle begin, especially when more dwarves appeared and they started killing each other.
-It was interesting to watch for a moment, but then the earth shook, and you saw the earthworms opening tunnels for something. You then saw legions of orcs marching through, and now, it was throughout the war.
-You saw the dwarven king joining the battle, which meant he had overcome his sickness, and they all fought honorably and like it was the last day on earth.
-You decided to leave because you knew the battle was lost. The orcs outnumbered them massively, so you knew they would die either way.
-You were prepared to leave till Bilbo found you and begged for your help.
-You refused and asked why you should help the people who helped to kill your friend. You were not risking your life for people who would kill Skarlax and Malleniel at first sight.
-Bilbo explained that if you helped them, the people would not harm you or your dragons. If you helped them win the battle, they would even give you a safe haven.
-You highly doubted that since you considered Smaug as a friend.
-However, Bilbo then convinced you that if you helped them, people would not come after you or your dragons. They could send word all around the land to prove you’re a friend and not an enemy. You and your dragons would be safe.
-You thought about, and even if you did not want to help the killers of your friend, you had to think about Skarlax’s and Malleniel’s future and safety.
-You pushed your feelings to the side and gave Malleniel to Bilbo.
-Bilbo was shocked to hold a baby dragon, but when you threatened to kill him if she came under any harm – he sucked it up and made it clear he heard you loud and clear. He then watched as you mounted your dragon and took flight toward the battle.
-When you flew above the battlefield, you yelled out for Skarlax to fire.
-Fire rained down upon the orcs. They screamed as they burned alive, and the dwarves, elves, and humans were left shocked by the appearance of another dragon.
-You cut the rest of the orcs away, giving a burning barrier to the people and preventing the rest of the orcs from overpowering them. You then continued burning them all. You also took down the trolls that tossed boulders and stones.
-You gave no mercy to the orcs, giving a chance for the dwarves, elves, and humans to win the battle, and the war was soon over.
-Seeing no reason to fight anymore, you returned to Bilbo and saw Malleniel alright.
-Bilbo thanked you for helping and promised to let everyone know you were a friend.
-You almost found revolt in the idea but couldn’t do anything about it. You took Malleniel and prepared to leave for good.
-Bilbo wished you good luck and said if you ever found your way to the shire, he would always welcome you. You almost found some warmth in those words but brushed them away because you doubted you would ever meet again.
-You bid him farewell, too, and flew away from the lonely mountain.
-You looked back, watching your home get smaller and smaller. It left you with deep sadness, but you knew it was necessary.
-You managed to find a new home even though it wasn’t easy, then watched how Malleniel grew up into a healthy young dragon. You missed Smaug and felt sad that he couldn’t be there to see her grow. However, Skarlax then laid two new eggs, and you were happy that your friend’s memory won’t die.

Thorin’s Company reaction to Modern!Reader w/ Hiccups
Thorin’s Company x Modern!Reader w/ Hiccups
Fandom: The Hobbit
So recently I learned that humans from our world probably only experience hiccups due to our fish ancestors, so I thought: ‘how would the dwarves, elves, hobbits, humans and wizards of Middle Earth react to Modern!reader with hiccups as none of them would ever have experienced it?’  Y’know, because they were born from Gods/Goddesses?  So expect more of this but for the others lol <3
Requests: Closed. Requested: no.
Warning(s): None other than the occasional mention of reader being a woman but other than that this is simply some fun headcanons.  :D
Note: Enjoy these headcanons <3

Tumblr media
(This image is from ‘Elrond’s Daughter’ a tumblr account from 2012 and 2013 ish.  This was posted by them in 2012 so check them out if you like this <3) (You might also recognize this from my previous ‘Thorin’s Company’ fanfic, it’s just very convenient to use).
Thorin: (Romantic):
♡  Thorin didn’t care that you were basically from an entirely different world when he met you through Gandalf at the start of their quest for Erebor.  He was more focused on the fact that you were his One and you were human which he felt meant you needed extra protection and support.
♡   Even though you reassured him you’d be fine and you could handle yourself in battle.  You were trained by the Elves of Rivendell themselves afterall.
♡  Thorin knew what to expect with women more so than the other dwarves so he wasn’t surprised when you - his significant other - had stomach cramps or mood swings.
♡  He felt prepared for anything you might need or want.  He almost always knew how to help you even if it was just hugs that you needed.
♡  That was, of course, until the first time you started making weird, jostling squeaks.
♡  Every time you made one of these squeaks your body would shake a bit, sort of like a flinch.
♡  He was so confused.
♡  What was happening?  Why were you making weird noises?  What should he do?
♡  Was this a human symptom of death?
♡  Did you need food?  Water?
♡  You had to reassure him that they would stop on their own eventually.
♡  He didn’t believe you.
♡  So you said “I am not a fish” and your hiccups stopped completely thus proving your point.
♡  ??Why did you say that??  Did you need to rest?  Are you overtired?  Are you insane?
♡  You answered “yes” to that last one.
♡  He wasn’t amused.
♡  It took a while but he eventually got used to them.
♡  He still offered Oin’s medicinal remedies whenever you started to hiccup again, but you always declined because they’d just go away on their own anyway.
♡  His concern was so sweet but don’t think for a minute he would let you fight with those things.
Fili: (Romantic):
♡  He thought you were weird when you first met.
♡  But in a good way.  Weird in a good way.
♡   You both hit it off the instant you met and shared lots of jokes and pranks with Kili.  Mostly minor pranks that do no damage but are enough to just be funny.
♡  Thorin doesn’t mind unless you delay the journey a few extra minutes.
♡  Luckily you guys never actually get in any real danger or trouble, and when fighting you’ve got each other’s backs.
♡  Kili thinks you’re great and knew you two would eventually court.
♡  As soon as the company had the guts to tell you what their courting traditions were, but until then you had been left to your blissful ignorance and just happily braided Fili’s hair and played with it at the end of long days.
♡  He did not mind one bit.
♡  The company didn’t say anything about it, they thought it was cute and knew you were clueless to its meaning.
♡  After all the adventures you two had been on and all the time spent together, he felt he knew your every quirk and habit.
♡  Fili could read you so well, he knew when you were tired and hungry before you even did.
♡  He’d share his food with you, you’d reciprocate.
♡  So you can imagine his bewilderment when you two are hanging out and you suddenly start squeaking out of nowhere.
♡  He wasn’t really concerned, but he was definitely confused.
♡  Fili knew if it was hurting you, you’d speak up about it but you remained silent in regards to the squeaks the whole time.
♡  After they’d settled and he’d gotten you some water, he decided to ask about them as politely as he could.
♡  He didn’t want to cross any boundaries.
♡  So you happily explained what they were and how you couldn’t control or stop them.
♡  He was honestly glad you were fine, but gosh you’d had him a bit worried.
♡  “Is there anything I can do to help?”
♡  “Actually, water is nice and does help a bit.”  You smiled.
♡  So he made sure to always bring you water whenever you had the hiccups.  He was really sweet and attentive.
♡  You weren’t about to reassure his worries more than you had.  Let’s be honest here, you liked having his attention whenever they occurred.  It was so sweet.
Kili: (Romantic):
♡  Meeting Kili was very interesting.
♡  That’s it.
♡  Nah, totally kidding, here’s the story!
♡  Gandalf had decided to head to Rivendell to find you and have you join the company.  His plan was to leave with you after a good rest and receiving Lord Elrond’s help.
♡  Unfortunately, you’re incredibly unpredictable and constantly climbing trees and buildings like a cat.  Like all the time.
♡  So two days after arriving in Rivendell, the dwarves were getting settled and having fun just relaxing.
♡  The two Princes (Fili and Kili) were casually wandering Rivendell, just exploring the area by themselves, not causing any trouble or bothering anyone with minor pranks for once.
♡  It was a very quiet and uninteresting day.
♡  Until you slipped from your spot on a tree - trying to catch a squirrel - and you fell landing directly on top of Kili.  Just...absolutely destroying this prince’s poor spine with your weight and fall.
♡  Luckily, you were uninjured as a soft, cuddly prince broke your fall!
♡  And that’s how you both first met and Gandalf finally found you and invited you to join the company.
♡  I say “invite” but he dragged you along no matter your answer.
♡  Despite such a rocky beginning you both got along really well and Fili even liked you.  Especially because you apologized a lot for falling onto Kili and he quickly forgave you.
♡  You guys had made good time travelling to Erebor by the time you first had hiccups around the group.
♡  Kili started panicking and began gently shaking you by the shoulders.
♡  “IS THIS HELPING!?”
♡  “no?”
♡  “WHY!?”
♡  It took some time and lots of Fili pulling Kili off you and Thorin pulling the brothers away from you and Balin checking on you and my God you didn’t have a single chance to catch your breath I’m so sorry--
♡  Once you had a sip of water and two whole minutes of quite, your hiccups stopped and you felt so much better.
♡  You gave the best explanation you could and a very better summary.  Because the explanation wasn’t good enough for Kili, he seriously needed to know how to help you next time.
♡  The next time they attacked you, he was ready with honeyed tea and cinnamon.  It didn’t help the hiccups, but it did help your dry throat from the snowy, cold air so you didn’t say anything about it.
♡  Besides!  Kili makes a damn good cup of cinnamon and honey tea.
Dwalin: (Romantic):
♡  This tough, gruff man could not easily trust or care about some stranger he just met for the first time.
♡  Everyone had hidden motives and intentions until proven otherwise by lots of conversing and close watching.
♡  He could easily weed out any spy, evil person, selfish aristocrat - you name the evil, he could spot it and scare them away.
♡  Dwalin had this skill from protecting the line of Durin and serving Thorin for a long time, basically being his bodyguard and most trusted with Balin being the second most trusted and Thorin’s advisor.
♡  So you can bet he wouldn’t care for some strange woman Gandalf forces to join the company.
♡  Right?
♡  Wrong!
♡  To be honest he fell for you the moment he first laid eyes on you and watched as you walked directly into a solid brick wall.
♡  It was kind of funny.
♡  You both got along very well and he found you were actually very knowledgeable and had lots to add in conversations.
♡  He never had to worry about small talk ever again when you were near.
♡  You could handle all the small talk for Dwalin and then just hold a normal conversation with him.  It was perfect, he just got to stand there and politely nod when needed until the person left!
♡  This man is incredibly strong with very good reflexes, so every time you trip, slip or go to walk into a tree he’s there to catch you and redirect you.
♡  You have long-sighted vision, so you’re one hell of an archer, but you can’t see shit three feet in front of you.
♡  Literally you learned to read from 6 feet away from the damn book, but hey it worked for you!
♡  Dwalin is thoroughly impressed by your ability to see so far so perfectly when his own vision is becoming quite the opposite.  It gets harder for him to see long distance every decade that passes.
♡  After months of travelling, adventuring and laughing together you finally started courting.
♡  And it was a month after this that you first experienced hiccups around Dwalin.
♡  Dwalin grew quite concerned and quickly got you water, food, a dog to hug, he gave you his coat, started the fire in your room.  Your hiccups lasted quite a while but after some water and food they died down.
♡  A gentle conversation about how much you appreciated him ensued.  BUT you also explained how all of that wasn’t quite necessary as hiccups go away on their own.
♡  You could explain how hiccups occur to this man as many times as you want and he will forget every time.  But he does remember that they’re uncomfortable, uncontrollable and involuntary.
♡  So he makes sure every is very respectful whenever you have the hiccups and no one dares to even flinch or cough until you’re both a safe distance away or the hiccups stop.
♡  Very protective man, but very fun to tease.
Bofur: (Romantic):
♡  You and Bofur make toys and trinkets together (he taught you) and this is how you spent a lot of your time.
♡  Out on a date?  Gathering materials for your creations.
♡  Spending time together just relaxing?  The room is decorated with your trinkets and jewelry.
♡  Sometimes he’d create the items and you’d paint or tweak them, making sure that there were no missed spots or details.
♡  One day, whilst painting you began hiccuping and had to take breaks between painting the trinkets so you wouldn’t ruin it.
♡  Bofur grew concerned after a minute.
♡  At first he was certain it was just a strange cough, but it kept going.
♡  He checked on you multiple times and you reassured him you were fine until he finally gave up and stood up.
♡  He offered to take you to Oin and when you said ‘no’ he offered a walk in some fresh air.
♡  You needed a break and said ‘sure’ and decided to explain the hiccups during your walk because he kept questioning you all about them.
♡  He was surprised to hear it was normal and common for you.
♡  He’d never encountered such a mysterious little squeak in his entire life.
♡  Bofur made you some tea after the walk and picked you some flowers for your room.
♡  You put them in a vase and sat them on your bedside table.
♡  He continued to offer aromas and scented things in case they helped, but you didn’t mind because the smell of lavender was actually very relaxing.
♡  Whilst you and him had time apart he came back looking a little more excited each day and soon you found out why.
♡  He was making you a toy that makes a little ‘ding’, or bell sound, when you press a button on it’s back.
♡  “It’s like your hiccups”  He explains with a cute smile.
♡  Please marry this man.
♡  You gave him a big hug for the cute little invention and it sits right beside your bed all the time.
Balin: (Platonic):
♡  Balin had seen many things in his time in Middle Earth.  From Erebor before Smaug and after they took back the mountain and Thorin reigned king.
♡  Balin taught you a lot of things, especially about Dwarven culture when you took a liking to Thorin.
♡  He could see the relationship blossoming between you two and always looked out for you and helped teach you anything you wanted to know about.
♡  He was wise, gave great advice.
♡  So you can imagine the fear and worry he feels when he encounters something he’s unfamiliar with that appears severe.
♡  Like your hiccups.
♡  He first saw these when Fili and Kili startled you awake as a prank and you were all laughing.
♡  Until you started hiccuping and the laughter quietened.
♡  You reassured them everything was okay but the poor brothers thought you were experiencing a heart attack and desperately tried to help you.
♡  You were pushing them off until Thorin and Balin shooed them away.
♡  Balin gave you some pats on the back and a “you alright, lasso?”
♡  Even when you nodded he didn’t believe you and helped you stand up and pack up your gear.
♡  He decided to give you some room to breathe and once they died down he checked in on you again.
♡  After a thorough explanation he still didn’t quite understand but he nodded anyway.
♡  “It is what it is, no use dwelling on something we can’t change.  I’m glad you’re alright.”
♡  He gave you another pat on the back and off you were back on the road with the group and some apologies from Fili and Kili.
 Bifur: (Platonic):
♡  You can’t tell this man anything.
♡  He struggles to communicate because you don’t know his Dwarvish sign language and he doesn’t know your English sign language.
♡  You can speak, but you’re mostly mute and non-verbal.  But you make an excellent fighter and cook so the company loves you.
♡  They met you when they picked up Bilbo actually and during the journey were quite surprised when anti-social “i only like my family” Bifur hung around you.
♡  He started acting like a protective uncle despite the communication barrier and always brought you food when you were busy setting up camp or gathering firewood.
♡  The company watched intriguingly as you and Bifur slowly learned each other’s sign language through constant, but slow, communication.
♡  When he talked it was only Dwarvish and when you talked it was only ever very quietly.
♡  You sort of bonded over this and fought together, like watching each other’s backs.
♡  He made sure you got extra food, showed you how to sharpen your weapons and polish your armour.
♡  Made sure the group didn’t give you trouble by making sure it was clear you were family to him.
♡  So when you squeaked and ‘flinched’ during a sign language discussion he flooded you with Dwarvish questions both out loud and in sign language.
♡  He was high-tailing it to Oin and Bofur whilst carrying you on his back like a log of wood.
♡  He was also shouting a string of Dwarvish insults at anyone in his way which happened to be poor Nori and Kili trying to set up camp.
♡  You took the medicines Oin made you and appreciated Bofur’s comfort, but needless to say, communicating the hiccups and what they were took all night.
♡  That’s not exaggerated this man is stubborn, needs a translator, Bofur needs time to process what the fuck you’re saying to then translate it.
♡  Everyone else is asking so many questions.
♡  By the end of the night you got halfway through the explanation.
♡  The next day was spent traveling and explaining the rest.
♡  Yup, the entire day.
♡  And then you had to re-explain during the night.
♡  The stubbornness of Dwarves to receive new information was going to be the death of you but you got through it.
♡  Not a fun experience, 2/10, but just because Fili and Kili laughed for two hours making jokes about your world’s strangeness and Bofur sung songs about fish.
♡  Bifur was super understanding by the end of this three day, yes three day, adventure though.
♡  He gave you several hugs and pats on the back which is high praise from this man.
Ori: (Platonic):
♡  PLease, the first time you began to hiccup around him he was so startled he messed up his drawing of a flower and you felt so bad.
♡   It was a constant back and forth of “I’m sorry!” and “do you want help?” and both of you were saying those to each other.
♡  He was worried, but he felt bad that his concern might be overwhelming you and you felt bad you messed up his drawing and were offering to help him fix it.
♡  It was great.
♡  You were both crying by the end of the moment and you still had hiccups.
♡  Ori took you to Dori because he had no clue how to help you and you were still crying with him so you couldn’t explain it.
♡  Dori was startled from his work by two crying - practically children - young adults covered in dirt.
♡  He had to give you both cookies and milk until you calmed down.
♡  Once you explained the situation and your hiccups, Dori left you both with some big brotherly advice and a slice of cheese each before leaving you two alone again.
♡  You and Ori enjoyed your cheese and you helped him fix up his drawing.
♡  From then on Ori was more aware of your hiccups and didn’t mind when they happened.
♡  He mostly ignored them unless they went on for like five minutes straight, then he’d look at you pretty concerned.
♡  He decided to write poems about the hiccups and draw cute little mini-yous hiccuping in his books.
♡  Come on now, you found this absolutely adorable, I mean who wouldn’t want to read Dwarvish poems about how hiccups startle and frighten the hearts of young men in the midst of fierce battles.
Dori: (Platonic):
♡  Dori is like the eldest of his brothers, Nori and Ori.
♡  So when you meet and join the Company on their quest for Erebor, he starts treating you like his younger sibling.
♡  Although he’s super protective, caring and considerate, he also gives you a glass of wine whenever he can if you’re feeling even slightly under the weather.
♡  “Wine and cheese cure anything” he reassures you.
♡  Ori and Nori nod their heads in agreement and even admit during your travels that every time they were sick Dori would, in fact, give them a slice of cheese.
♡  So when you first hiccuped around the company, Dori immediately snuck you a piece of cheese.
♡  You thanked him and gave him a sort of ‘sliced cheese in hand’ salute.
♡  He nodded.
♡  The cheese did not help.
♡  You were still hiccuping.
♡  But rest assured!  He was a fast learner!
♡  He had more cheese <3
♡  You didn’t know where he finds his cheese until you see Nori going out of his way to steal the cheese and then give it to Dori like a cheese-dealer.
♡  At the end of the day you just explained what they were and why they were happening.
♡  He was relieved it wasn’t an illness you were hiding from them or anything.  He reassured you that if you did have an illness you could tell them.
♡  Again you thanked him and he gave you a glass of wine.
♡  So, as softly as you could you told him the cheese didn’t really help, although you really appreciated it.
♡  “Nonsense!  Cheese always helps.  Especially sharp cheese.”
♡  “Ohh, sharp cheese, you can never go wrong there (Y/N).”  Bofur agreed with a chuckle, sitting across from you both.
♡  Look, let’s cut to the chase, you were there all night explaining hiccups until you finally made progress with Dori.
♡  The next time you experienced hiccups he didn’t give you cheese.
♡  He gave you wine.  :)
Nori: (Romantic):
♡  You and Nori often commit minor cases of thievery together like any normal average couple would.
♡  That was until you began to make silly squeaking sounds that gave away your location and you two had to book it out of there.
♡  You ran for miles and by the time you were both safe, you both collapsed in exhaustion.
♡  He let it go for the night in case you were sick, but mostly because he was tired.
♡  The next day he questioned you at like, the crack of dawn with a candle hovering over you head.
♡  The candle was newly stolen.
♡  “This could have been us stealing it together, but you had to almost die.”  He sighed dramatically.
♡  You calmly, but tiredly explain your hiccups.
♡  You couldn’t get him past the ‘evolved from a fish’ part because he was laughing hysterically.
♡  “Imagine entering Aule and greeting your first ancestor!!”  Nori cackled.
♡  “My dear, please.”  You begged.
♡  “BLUB BLUB BLUB BLOB PFFFTTT”
♡  It took a lifetime and a half but once he understood it, he let it go.
♡  Before you went thieving together though he would always ask if you were feeling “fishy” just in case you could tell when you’d have the hiccups.
♡  You remained patient through his comments but salted his water the next day claiming it to be an ‘ancient fish tradition of showing love’.
Oin: (Platonic):
♡  He thought you were sick when you first had hiccups.
♡  You were his medicinal apprentice and he was teaching you everything he knew so you could protect and help the Company when he wasn’t around.
♡  So when you had the hiccups on a cold winter night just before bed he immediately jumped to making a little sleeping aid, a cough calmer, a throat soother and a hot cup of tea to warm your chill.
♡  You were so grateful for your master (apprentice’s boss) but you felt bad he was doing all this for nothing.
♡  Well not entirely, the sleep aid actually really helped as well as the throat soother.
♡  So at the end of the long discussion you were sleepy and warm so you didn’t really mind anymore.
♡  From then on every time you started to have bad hiccups he’d give you a throat soothing mixture and if they were particularly violent he’d make you a cough calmer anyway.
♡  Very caring, but pretty hard to explain anything to because of his slight deafness.
♡  You could tell this man 100 times over that you didn’t need rest or medicine but he still would need you to tell him again.
♡  At least you get a nice cup of tea at the end of the day though,
♡  He makes the best teas.
Bombur: (Romantic):
♡  Poor sweetheart.
♡  He thought it was his food the first time you started hiccuping.
♡  This was because it happened as you were halfway through a nice lunch he cooked and oh boy did he panic.
♡  Bombur thought you were allergic or something, he’s heard cases of people being unable to eat certain foods.
♡  He felt so bad no matter how many times you said it wasn’t the food.
♡  “I am not a fish” you reminded your brain and the hiccups stopped.
♡  “It was the fish?  Was it the river bass or the salmon?”  He asked.
♡  “No, no it wasn’t the fish at all!”  You reassured him.
♡  “It was the salmon wasn’t it?”
♡  “Bombur, no-”
♡  He actually cares about you so much.
♡  Every time you experience hiccups, even if it’s not during a meal, he’ll give you more water and food.
♡  If you hiccup during the day’s journey he’ll sneak you like two extra spoons of food and a cute smile.
♡  If your hiccups seemed particularly violent or long he’ll share some of his own bowls of food.
♡  Let’s you choose most of the meals and spices just in case the food is the problem, because you’ll know what food to avoid.
Gloin: (Platonic):
♡  He’s literally married.
♡  He knows everything a dwarf needs to know about women and the many problems they can suffer with.
♡  But he didn’t know that was a fucking thing??
♡  You were practically his child, he always made sure you were safe and healthy and got a good share of food before anyone else.
♡  Dwarf dad™.
♡  The panic he experienced when you started making strange squeaking sounds and flinching.
♡  He thought you were in danger until he got closer.
♡  Then he thought you were dying.
♡  “Oh no, my wife’s gonna kill me if I let you die, child.”
♡  “I’m an adult?”
♡  “Oh sweet child” He cried and hugged you tightly.
♡  Once you explained to him you weren’t dying and it was just an occasional thing that happens he calmed down but still needed a very long explanation.
♡  After you explain hiccups at least five times he continues to ask if you need medicine.
♡  Regardless of your answer you are given medicine. :)
♡  He pretends not to mind if you don’t take it, but you catch him glancing at you throughout the day or during mealtimes until you take it and he finally calms down.
♡  Overall, he gets used to it pretty quickly.
But every time you get hiccups he will be giving you more medicine.
♡  You’re pretty sure the medicine is a pain killer.
♡  You’re grateful for his concern anyway.

friends that have one singular thing in common (they have both attempted to rob frodo and now need help to stand up)
'What is the creature advising you' was supposed to mean 'what's he saying to you' but I realize now it could also mean 'Lord Boromir, WHAT IS THAT THING' and that would also be appropriate.

getting dragged away from the company along with your dad to meet the king of the elves “do not speak yn” thorin muttered as he shoved one of the guards earning a smack to the head, i heard many stories of the eleven king and how he didn’t help against the dragon or give them shelter after they lost the mountion, as soon as we put infront of the thrown we were forced to our knees "whatever happens don't speak to him" he pleaded as he leaned down so he can see my face "I promise papa" I gave him a confidant smile he was about to say something else but steps interrupted him I moved my gaze to the floor and listened "people say a noble quest is at hand, to reclaim a lost mountain and slay a dragon" I shivered hearing his voice "but you and I know that's not what your after" he murmured I heard my dad shuffle probly standing up "I wanna make a deal" the kings sly words court my dad's attention "I'm listening" my dad said as he started walking around the room "I'll let you go giving you food to take along with you the only thing I ask is for you to return what is rightfully mine "which is" thorin asked "the jewels that shine like the stars I would like them back" the king muttered I slowly raised my gaze up and widened at the kings beauty as he sat on his throne "a favour for a favour" my dad muttered as he came beside "from a king to another" thranduil smiled "where were you when we asked for your aid where were you when we where homeless and starving" my dad yelled making sure the whole castle could hear him "I see how you treat your friends might as well be your enemy" he seethed through gritted teeth the king didn't look so pleased with my dad's answer "guards take him away" the king muttered but as soon as they came close to me he shooed them away and as they dragged my dad away he called "maybe you'll change you mind in 2 years or even 20" he said before turning your attention to me "stand" he murmured and I did as I was told "who are you" he asked but I didn’t respond just stared at him "aw your an oakenshield let me guess your his daughter explains the manners" he chuckled "don't you dare talk about my father" I muttered and rushed to him but was court by one of the guards who held a knife to my throat "let her go" he said and turned away "come" he muttered before walking I looked around not seeing anywhere I could escape be grudgingly followed "what story's have you heard about me" he asked as we walked down the hallway "that you abandoned us when we needed your aid most" I said staring down at the floor and squeaked as he stopped and I bumped into him he quickly turned to me and I quickly moved back scared of what he would do instead he leaned down and the left side of his face started to change showing of a scar "this is what happened when I tried to battle a dragon" he muttered before standing up again his head twitching as it went back to normal "I suffered many loses that day and I vowed to never face a dragon again" he said before he carried on walking I quietly followed behind we soon entered a dining room and he sat at the very end and stared at me "are you going to join me or just watch as I eat this meal" he said side eyeing me as I moved to the table I choose to sit two seats down from him so I wasn't to far away or to close "why am I here" I murmured "we may have imprisoned you bit we're not cruel" a voice murmured from behind us "ah legolus you decided to join us" thranduil said and gestured to a seat but he did the same as me and sat infront of me the rest of the meal was silent and I only just nibbled "what's happening with my father" I asked as the servants took the plates away "he will stay he till he changes his mind" he said and that was the end of the discussion.
They started to treat me like one of them they didn't allow me back into the dungeon or see my father but anything else was fine unless I want to go outside I can only go if legolas or thranduil accompanied me "why are you treating me so nicely" I asked as we sat under one of the many flowering trees "because yn your different from your father and that disgusting company you travel with" he paused "your safer here where me and legolas can protect you and provide for you" thranduil said as he put his and on top of mine but I quickly moved away "you can't keep me here and my dad will never leave me" I yelled standing up and he followed "your dad is a failure of a father he hasn't once even asked to see you he hasn't even asked about you" I stumbled a bit was he right, did my dad not actually care about me "yo-your wrong he does care and he won't leave without me" but as soon as I said that legolas came rushing in "the dwarves have escaped" it felt as if my world came rushing down around me that I didn't even realize thranduil had pulled me into his chest "don't worry you have a new family now".

Hii! Congrats on 50 followers!!! 💜 for the prompts list thing, could you do like. Any of them with Pippin? also the forehead touch prompt is so cute please I can’t 😭
I don't often have ideas for Pippin, so this was a treat to write! Just for everyone to know, I'm not answering requests in order. This just happened to be the quickest one to write. Since I had my pick of prompts, I decided to do one I didn't think would get much attention. I hope you like it!

Burden - Peregrin Took
Tumblr media
Boromir had been your friend ever since he had helped you become a member of the King's—or the Steward's, you supposed—Guard. His perseverance paid off, as you were now one of the most capable guards and most loyal to him. You were honored to be asked to accompany him to the meeting in Rivendell.
That was where you first met the Hobbits. Your first impression was that, well, they were awfully small. You could tell that Boromir shared your concern for their safety. It was difficult to not view them as children, and you wondered how on earth you were going to keep the poor little lads safe when so many things threatened you all. So you resolved to do anything you could to keep them up on their strength and their fighting prowess.
You had an especially soft spot for Peregrin, or Pippin, as he called himself. He was the youngest of the group, and you couldn't help but be especially fond of him and his antics. Gandalf always rolled his eyes when you shot him looks for his poor treatment of the kid, but he always eased up afterward. You supposed that was part of the reason he kept quiet on this particular occasion.
The others, however, did not.
"It's unwise to expend your energy in such a way, mellon nin," Legolas pointed out as you once again readjusted Pippin as he rode on your back.
"Aye, he's right," Gimli agreed. "He's got his own legs, y'know."
"He's tired," you argued. "We've been sword training. Not to mention, his legs are much shorter than ours, you can't expect him to keep up without a little extra help."
"The others seem to be getting on just fine," Aragorn pointed out, but his smile betrayed his thoughts on the matter.
"Well, I'll carry the others as well, if they want," you said stubbornly.
"I'll carry two and you carry two," Boromir said, chuckling but clearly serious.
"That's alright," Frodo interjected.
"I wouldn't be opposed," Merry commented, and Sam bumped him with his elbow. "It's not necessary, though."
You thought it was strange how quiet Pip was on the matter. He was quite the chatterbox, most of the time. Perhaps he was just embarrassed.
"He's fallen asleep," Boromir leaned over to whisper to you, a smile clear in his voice.
"Aw," you cooed, now extra careful to avoid jostling him more than necessary.
"You cannae do that forever, lass," Gimli warned you.
"Ah, but each time I do, I get a little stronger, so perhaps one day I can," you suggested brightly.
"It's a good thing I've practiced for this," you said with glee, teeth chattering as the fellowship traversed the treacherous mountain pass. You and Boromir had stayed true to your word, and Aragorn had joined your little pact. You carried Pippin still, Aragorn carrying Sam and Frodo, one on each arm, and Boromir holding onto Merry.
"You can put me down as soon as you're able," Pippin said suddenly. "You must be getting tired, and I—I can make it on my own."
"Nonsense, little one," you said, the cold making it hard to hold a smile, however much you wanted to. "I could carry you to the ends of the earth under one arm."
"I just don't want to burden you."
You tilted your head down, finding a temporary respite from the wind by setting your forehead against his. "You could never burden me, Pippin.
"I'm just trying to help you do the great things I know you can do." You weren't quite sure what those things were yet, but if there was one thing you learned growing up, it was that a little encouragement never hurt anyone. "But if you want to walk by yourself, I'll set you down as soon as the snow is shallow enough. Unless you have the elven secret to floating atop it?"
Pippin laughed, his wind-bitten cheeks a frosty red. "Not yet, but I'll try to figure it out."

Tumblr media
You had finally gotten a free evening to yourself after training for the better part of every evening for the last year with your father, Girdirion. He had been training you relentlessly after Legolas had left of the quest his father, King Thranduil, had sent him off on. That was over a year ago. You hadn’t heard much other than they had made it to Minas Tirith a few months ago.
Your father suddenly saw you as defenseless without your longtime friend at your side. Being the kings most trusted advisor, he had been trained for centuries and was a formidable fighter. It wasn’t until after Legolas had left that you had realized how serious the threat to middle earth was. Your father must had realized it too as he worked you to the bone, training you at every chance he could.
It was only after King Thranduil received word that the ring had been destroyed and his son was heading home did things begin to change. Your father still made you train but it wasn’t at every waking moment any longer. Tonight, was one of those nights that he had given you off as he had meetings to attend to with the king.
Time felt too slow as you waited for Legolas to return. He promised he would. You knew he would. He was all the way across middle earth, but you just couldn’t seem to wait any longer. You longed for you best friend, who meant much more to you than just a best friend, to come home.
As soon as you settled on your bed to begin reading the novel you had been meaning to finish there was a quick knock at your door. Who could that be? You weren’t expecting anybody at this hour after dinner. Begrudgingly, you set the book down just as you had gotten comfortable and made your way over to the door.
When you opened the door you scrunched your face in confusion, “Father? What are you doing here? I thought you were meeting with the king?”
He nodded, “I was. Then we got interrupted. There is somebody here I think you may want to see.” His smile let you know exactly what you were thinking. Legolas was home. He was back in Mirkwood after nearly a year and a half away. Sure, it wasn’t that long of a time for you in the scheme of your lifetime but it did feel like the longest year of your nearly two thousand years in middle earth.
“Legolas?” You tore out of your room not waiting for his response as you made your way to the throne room. You heard your fathers deep laughter behind you before he jogged to catch up with your lighter than air pace.
Once he caught up to you he had that knowing smile on his face. He had watched the two of you dance around the obvious feelings each other had. You never thought you were good enough to be with the kings son. He never thought you were interested in that way. But to everybody on the outside looking in it was rather obvious the two of you were destined to be together. Even if it was taking longer than expected. A thousand years longer than expected. See, King Thranduil and your father had agreed they would bless the union between the two of you should it come naturally. But neither had the heart to force it. He and your father knew as good as anybody these things had to find their way on their own, naturally. Even if it drove the two elder Ellon’s mad.
“Indeed, your elf has made it home.” He spoke as the two of you walked, much faster than normal, towards the kings room.
Before you opened the massive wood doors you turned to him with a sly smile and a hint of a blush dotting the apples of your cheeks, “My elf?”
Your father raised his eyebrows at you, “Go on then.” He pushed you forward ignoring your question.
When you pushed open the doors you couldn’t find the familiar blonde hair of your best friend. Even as you walked closer to the throne you looked all around the hall and only spotted King Thranduil who was giving you the same smirk your father just did. What were they up to? Where was Legolas? And why was the king looking at you like he knows something you didn’t?
“I apologize my king.” You bowed unsure of what else to do. When you turned to see if your father had followed you in you were left biting your lip seeing the door closed without him in the room. What was he up to? “My father said…”
Thranduil put his hand up pausing you right in your tracks, “Legolas is out in the gardens with a dwarf. A dwarf!” He sounded more frustrated than excited to his son after the time away.
But you cracked a smile instead. That was so him. He was anything and everything his father was not. The two of them could not have more different personalities. Your best friend was the one to push boundaries no elves would or could do seeing that his father was the king, “A dwarf you say? That sounds like him.”
Thranduil studied your happier than he’s seen you in an entire year expression full well knowing it was because Legolas was back from his grand quest. Thranduil rose from his throne before walking down to you. Having to look up to him because he was so tall all you could do was wait on his word.
He pointed his hand towards the entrance to the kings private gardens, “Go, you audience is rather impatiently waiting on you.” He gave you a knowing smile before retreating towards the door you had originally come in, likely to go find your father. Not wasting anymore time you made a beeline towards the doors that led to the private gardens you so rarely got to enjoy. He must have deemed it enough of a special occasion to grant access to not only you, but a dwarf as well. You knew Legolas was behind that as well. He was the only one to get the king to agree to something he might not want to do.
For the second time in a few moments, you threw open the heavy wooden doors leading out to the gardens. It did not take you long to hear the pair before you saw them. You paused hoping to catch just a brief moment between the two of them before you made your presence completely known. As you suspected the dwarf had Legolas distracted from hearing you walk out.
“Look at ya lad. Pacin’ like a horse.” The unfamiliar voice chuckled. You had a feeling the dwarf poked fun at the ellon more often than not.
You just knew he was rolling his eyes, the beautiful blonde prince he was, “I am not Gimli.”
But the dwarf just kept laughing, “Ya’ weren’t even this nervous when we rode up to the Black Gate.”
“Would you quiet down dwarf. She will be out momentarily.” That sounded just like the elf that had left a year and a half prior. It was almost too easy to get him worked up and the dwarf called Gimli certainly enjoyed playing into it.
“The little lassie has you this nervous huh?” You? You made him nervous?
Legolas let out a huff, “Gimli!” And you knew that was your queue to help spare the ellon from his friend who seemed relentless. You already liked Gimli from the sounds of it. You shut the door behind you louder than necessary to signal your arrival.
Taking a deep breath, you walked forward suddenly terribly nervous after those comments. What was Gimli playing on? Why would he be nervous to see you? You didn’t want to get your hopes up on feelings as you buried those away centuries ago. Your crush for the ellon grew slowly the first thousand or so years you knew him. Truly organic in the best way possible. Childhood friends to training partners to friends then best friends after it all. Once your training to become a healer had completed you had a sneaking suspicion all his injuries in the field were so he could come see you after some time away. He would only request you. Straight refusing the other healers help when offered. He would wait for you.
But then it just stayed like that. You thought it could grow into something more, but it dawned on you over the next few centuries his father had a say in who he courts and marries. Why would King Thranduil allow his son to court you of all elves? Sure, your father was his most trusted advisor, but you were no political gain in marriage. So you did what you did best, buried the feelings deep and bottled it all up.
The two of them quieted quickly hearing the door close. When you turned the corner you finally spotted your prince after far too long apart paired with an adorably red-headed dwarf who was staring right at you. You however were staring straight at Legolas as your small smile turned into a massive one. There he was, as handsome as ever, standing right there in front of you after too long. The longest either have you had spent apart from each other.
“Legolas.” You grinned before pulling him into a tight hug. It was when he gave you a big squeeze back that you simply just melted into the ellon completely forgetting you had an audience yourselves.
“Aye lad! You left out the detail of your Y/N being quite the beauty.” Gimli spoke up from beside you breaking the trance the two of you seemed to be under. You giggled once you pulled away from him seeing the look of horror cross his face at his friends comments.
You turned to the dwarf feeling the nerves wash away. You had the advantage here as Gimli seemed to want to torture your friend, “Hello. It is lovely to meet you. I am Y/N. Daughter of Girdirion, King Thranduil’s advisor.”
He pointed at you before narrowing his eyes at you, “Do you hate dwarves as much as his father does?”
You shook your head, “Hardly. You are actually the first dwarf I am meeting. I do not get away often.” You knelt down making yourself level with him, “You are much cuter than made out to be.” That earned a few stumbling words and a rather mighty blush to the warrior who seemed to have nothing but words. You managed to render him speechless.
This earned a snicker from your favorite ellon, “Elf got your tongue there Gimli?”
That comment must have meant war between the two of them. The dwarf cocked his eyes up to his friend, shook his head then turned back to you who was now back to standing instead of crouching, “Lady Y/N. It is lovely to finally meet you too. I feel as though I already know ya lassie.” He grinned knowing exactly what he was about to do.
You looked at Legolas with curiosity framing your face before returning your attention back to Gimli, “Do you?”
“Aye.” He nodded, “Legolas here would never shut up about ye. Y/N this. Y/N that. Y/N would love this. Y/N would hate that.”
You knew your cheeks were surely aflame with embarrassment just as Legolas’ were, “We have spent quite some time together over the years.”
But Gimli wouldn’t have that, “I think it has something to do with you lassie. The way you look. The way you dress. The way you seem to occupy his every thought.”
“That is enough.” Legolas finally chimed in giving his friend a hard stare telling him to get the hell out. But that only egged the red head on further. Your eyes bounced back and forth between the two of them before Gimli relented.
He bowed his head, “My lady.”
Echoing his actions you responded, “Gimli.” Before turning your attention back to the prince. Your eyes finally were able to scan his features. Not a hair seemed out of place. He was exactly as you remembered.
“Welcome home.” You gave him your biggest smile feeling like you could finally relax after seeing him alive and well.
He wasted no more time before pulling you into a second bone crushing hug. He had never been so forward causing you to let out a slight stutter in surprise of his actions. It was the last thing you had expected from him. But then again, who knew what he went through out there. Legolas was a strong warrior, but you knew how deeply this could impact anybody who had to go through it.
“I have missed you.” He whispered into your ear not letting his arms go from around you. He had no clue how his words were affecting you in that moment. Suddenly you felt that stupid little crush, that was surely love at this point, bubbling up from the depths of your heart that you had long since locked away.
When he pulled away after a few moments he took the time to look you over just as you had moments prior. He didn’t drop his hands from around your waist though, simply holding you loosely in his embrace. You had never felt his eyes or his hands on you heavily before or that you had noticed in the past, “I have missed you beyond words Legolas. I have spent a year and a half filled with the dread of the thought you may never come home. Seeing you here is the greatest gift Eru Ilúvatar could have bequeathed.”
It was then that Legolas knew just how deep your feelings ran for him just as they had run for you. He too had spent the better part of a thousand years being absolutely in love with you, his favorite elf, but making no indication of it. For he thought you may have eyes for someone else. He could not risk losing you in the event you said ‘no’ to his request to court you. But by the way you were looking at him he knew that was wrong. Your love laced eyes could not break away from his gorgeous blue ones.
He knew he needed to take the next step with you. Gimli was right. His dwarf friend spent the better part of the journey home convincing him he needed to ask the question he had been dying to ask you. He wanted to court you. Spend the rest of his middle earth life and the next one with you. He had never been so sure of that. The thought of courting another elleth felt wrong. It was you. It was always going to be you.
“Gimli was not lying, my lady.” Even though it came out as a whisper your ears could pick it up with no problem.
That shocked you. Was he admitting the same thing that you were? Did he have feelings for you too? “Pardon?”
He grinned seeing your dumb struck face, “You do in fact occupy my every thought. You are the reason I am here now. I fought for middle earth, yes. But for you more. Thinking of your smile pulled me out of the darkest of times
Your lips parted in utter shock at his admission, “Legolas, I…” You were at a loss for words as you processed his confession to you. Your heart was giving you away completely though as it beat faster than it ever had before.
He continued seeing as you were rendered speechless, “It was only ever you. It was only every going to be you, my love. You are my very best friend Y/N. I would never want to continue this life with somebody who was not you. It is only you. It will only ever be you.” He paused finding the courage to say what had been on the tip of his tongue for centuries, “I love you.”
Your jaw might have been on the floor at this point, “You love me?”
He nodded with a nervous expression, “More than you will ever know.”
That was all you needed before you walked forward, butting yourself right against his chest, “That is a relief my prince. As I love you too. More than you will ever know.”
Euphoria. The truest form of euphoria pulsed through your body as you too admitted what had always been so hard to admit.
His expression melted to that of pure elation. Gently he placed his hands under your chin, cupping your face so carefully, “May I begin to court you, my love?”
“I would be so honored Legolas.” Your head was turned up as you looked into his eyes for likely the millionth time. It was different this time. Charged with love and lust. Like you were looking at a new Legolas. One that you could get to know at a much deeper level.
He brushed his thumb over your lips sending shivers racking throughout your body, “Only you. Only ever you.”

Well hello I happened to wander into your ask box, and was wondering if you could write an Elrond x rreader where the reader grew up in a toxic home and has a lot of scars from it and elrond innocently asks about them and then they open up to him and it's really fluffy maybe.
if this makes you uncomfy please ignore.
P! Elrond x Gn! Reader
“Scars of home”
A/n: I wrote it platonically bc I didn’t it want it to be the “I’ll kiss your scars away” cringe. Makes me recoil I’ll be happy to make another one romantic though if you would like :>
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the tranquil halls of Rivendell, where the soft melodies of nature danced through the air, lived a human whose past was marked by the harshness of their home. The scars of their past, both seen and unseen, adorned their heart and body. However, amidst the timeless beauty of Elrond's realm, a gentle light found its way into their life.
One serene day, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Elrond found himself in the company of the Y/n. The two had developed a quiet friendship, founded on understanding and compassion. Elrond admired their strength and resilience, though he could sense the pain hidden behind their gentle eyes.
As they strolled through the peaceful gardens, Elrond couldn't help but notice the scars that adorned their skin. “My dear friend, may I inquire about the scars you adorn?”
At first, they were hesitated, their heart beating faster with the memories that resurfaced. Yet, there was something about Elrond's presence that felt safe, and with a deep breath, they decided to open up to him.
"These are the marks of a difficult past," they began, their voice soft but steady. "I grew up in a home plagued by hate—a place that should have been filled with love and care, but instead, it was a place of pain and cruelty."
Elrond listened attentively, his expression filled with empathy, and he didn't interrupt as Y/n continued to share their painful memories. They recounted the struggles they faced, the emotional wounds that ran deep, and the physical scars that bore testimony to their survival.
As they spoke, Elrond's heart swelled with compassion for them. He offered them a gentle hand, a silent gesture of support and comfort. "You have faced so much," he said softly. "Yet, you are here now, strong and resilient, despite the scars you carry."
Tears welled in the Y/n’s eyes, moved by Elrond's understanding and warmth. They found solace in his presence, the weight of their past momentarily lifted. "Thank you," they whispered, their voice quivering with emotion.
Elrond smiled gently, reassuringly. "It is an honor to be entrusted with your story," he said, "and know that you are not defined by your past. Here in Rivendell, you are surrounded by friends who care deeply for you."
And in that moment, they felt a sense of belonging, of being seen and accepted for who they were, scars and all. Elrond's compassion had kindled a spark of hope within them, reminding them that healing and love were not beyond reach.
As the stars began to dot the evening sky, Elrond and Y/n continued to stroll through the gardens, their conversation now filled with lightness and laughter. A beautiful friendship had bloomed, and in Rivendell's embrace, they found a sanctuary—a place to heal, to grow, and to embrace the love that had entered their life.
In the days that followed, Elrond continued to be a steadfast presence, offering a guiding hand and a caring heart. And as time passed, Y/n's emotional baggage began to fade, replaced by the warmth of love and the gentle touch of healing, all nurtured in the tranquil haven of Rivendell.

_________________________________________
"I'm here, Mr Thorin. I kept my promise".
Within moments of hearing those words, Thorin crossed the room from his throne, seemingly breathless from his shock and happiness. "My friends". And without any hesitation, he brought both you and Bilbo into a grouped embrace. "Long have I awaited this day", he sighed as if it were in relief.
"It's so good to see you, Thorin", Bilbo heaved a laugh in the tight embrace, affectionately patting the back of the Mountain King.
"We missed you", you added, resting your head in the crook of his neck. Pulling apart from the embrace gently, Thorin placed his larger hands upon your heads, weaving his fingers gently into the curled locks upon them. His forehead met Bilbo's in an affectionate familial embrace, before he at last rested his head upon yours.
For the King, it was an effort to fight tears; seeing you again. When he last saw you, you were an adolescent; no older than thirteen. And before that, it was when you was eight and made your promise to him. Time had been cruel to Thorin. Unrest had started in the colonies when Moria was to be reclaimed. The Dwarven empire was growing and Thorin had but one chance to see you again in your teen years and took it without hesitation. Now, with you a decade older, it was hard for him not to weep.
"I am sorry, Dear One", he murmured, meeting your eyes with his own glassed ones. He ran his thumb over your cheek. "I should have visited you more before your adulthood, and I–".
"Don't you apologise", you chided, bringing his form against yours in a proper hug. He reciprocated immediately, allowing only a few tears to slip from his eyes whilst his head was buried in your shoulder. "You are a mighty King of Dwarves. Your responsibilities lie here. I knew that. Time was unkind to us both, Thorin". You broke the embrace, wiping the few stray tears from his face. "I would have grown up, either way. As every child does, eventually". He smiled then, looking proudly at the woman you had become. "However, they will always come back to their family". Thorin's mouth parted in some semblance of shock at your words, but it was he that remembered his own in that moment. He remembered a young Hobbit curled into his side.
"I will one day! I'll go to Erebor! I'll visit you, I promise!!". Thorin smiled fondly, softly rustling the (h/c) curls on the little Halfling's head. "And be welcomed as kin! Whatever that is".
"It means family, (Y/n). You, Master Baggins, my people. All of us are part of each other. You will come to understand it all one day. And I will be a proud Dwarf to see that day come".
"Indeed, they do", he agreed, a new sense of pride swelling within his chest. He knew that you deep down thought of him as the father you never got to have and vise-versa; you were like the daughter he could never have. Most of all, you and Mr Baggins were his friends. His best friends. And you both would fit in with his kin.
"Kili!", Bilbo had shouted, the two happily embracing.
"You have a beard now!", you exclaimed whilst the youngest Durin hugged your companion.
"I do!". His hands rubbed over the dark hair now thick on his face. You had met Kili when he accompanied Thorin on his last visit to the Shire. Although you hadn't had the time to get to know the younger Dwarf, you could see he was a light in a dark time in Thorin's life. You loved that about him. Grinning, his arms opened for you. "Come here you!". Laughing, you met him in a crushing embrace, relishing in the way he swung you like a sibling before settling into a softer hug. "Good to see you again", he commented, ruffling the top of your head.
"Likewise", you chuckled, playfully bumping his cheek with your knuckle to his amusement.
You again turned to Thorin, who now wished to address you and Bilbo about living quarters for your stay. However, before anything much could be said, there was a pull on your skirts. Looking down, you found yourself looking at a tiny young boy with crystal blue eyes, half-pointed ears and wavy auburn hair. "A Hobbit??", you questioned aloud, amid your confusion. Yet, this boy had uncharacteristically tiny feet and a lot of light hair upon his face for a Hobbit...
"I knew you'd end up taking a child from the Shire to raise for your own", Bilbo joked to Thorin's greater amusement. His eyes shone with familiarity at the young one's presence.
"Afraid not, Master Baggins", he chuckled. "For the child isn't mine". Thorin walked over, picking the young boy up with a laugh.
"Great Uncle Thorin!", the small boy cooed, pulling at the King's hair the way you once had.
"(Y/n), this is—".
"Frerin Durin!!", a shout into the throne room interrupted Thorin. "So that's where you disappeared off to!!". An exasperated Dwarf marched into the room with a tired grin. He had a mane of curly blonde hair and by far, the most impressive beard you'd ever seen on a Dwarf besides Thorin's. His crystal blue eyes travelled to Kili with a sympathetic undertone to them. "Sorry, Kee. Couldn't keep the rascal out of trouble! Reminds me of his father ". An incline of his head in Kili's direction showed, to your shock, that Frerin was his son!
"Don't know what you're talking about!", he played it off with a giggle. "Now, you". The youngest Durin walked to his Uncle, addressing his son. "Stop running away from your Uncle Fee. He works too hard to have mischievous little Pebbles like you—", a poke in the boy's chest, "—causing trouble for him". The little one giggled, having been no older than you when you first met Thorin. However, your mind lingered on the name 'Fee'. And then it snapped. This was the Prince— Thorin's first nephew. He was the next King Under the Mountain. Fili.
You saw it now. Despite his hair, which he undoubtedly got from his father's side, he had that nobility in his attitude and those gorgeous blue eyes from his mother's side. The same eyes little Frerin has. Thorin's eyes.
"You never told me you had a little boy!!", you fawned, Thorin allowing you to take the young Pebble. He pulled at your hair, holding the shoulder of your dress.
"Two, actually", Kili corrected, making your eyes widen.
"Two??", you echoed, your mouth falling open. He laughed at your expression. Nodding, he affirmed it for you,
"Yes. Frerin and Thrain".
"Where's Thrain??", you asked, swiveling to see if he was in the room.
"Safe, with his mother", Kee assured. "He's but a babe. Tauriel does a wonderful job mothering them. Sometimes she needs a break from the other one though. Mother and Fee offer to babysit all the time, so it's never a problem". The name 'Tauriel' was a dead giveaway. The ears were pointed because she was Elven!
"I'm so happy for you, Kili", Bilbo grinned, caressing the little boy's face before turning to shake hands with his father.
"Adad!", Frerin cried out. "Who is this lady and that man??".
"Bilbo", Kili gestured to your counterpart. "Is your Irak' Nadad; your Uncle from the Shire". He turned to you. "And (Y/n) is your Irak' Namad; your Aunt. She's from the Shire as well!". The boy reached for your ears, toying with them. Fili's brows, however, had risen when hearing your name. He didn't realise that you were his Uncle's friend. The one he and Kili and told him about many years ago and mentioned only on occasion. You had completely intrigued the firstborn Durin, his eyes dancing eagerly between you and his nephew. His glances towards you didn't go unnoticed by Kili...
"Is she a half-Elf?? Is she like me and Thrain?".
"No, son", Kee grinned, ruffling his boy's hair. "She's a Hobbit. A halfling. Big, strong feet that don't need boots. Ones that can sneak past a Dragon!". Frerin's jaw dropped.
"You snuck past a Dragon?!". Everyone burst into laughter.
"No, Lovely", you answered the boy softly. "But, your Uncle Bilbo did! He faced Smaug; the Dragon who sat on this mountain". Bilbo nervously waved the boy's ecstatic look off.
"It was nothing, really", he insisted with a chuckle. Frerin clawed his way from your arms to your counterpart's.
"Tell me about the Dragon!!", the boy grinned. He had his father's smile. It made your own bloom.
"Another time, Frerin", Kili told him, taking his son from an amused Bilbo. "Let's get you home to your Amad". The boy pouted, but agreed with great reluctance. Turning to his older brother, he murmured, "Thanks for looking after him, Fee".
"Always. I love my little Warrior-Nephew!", Fili smiled in response, pinching Frerin's cheeks. The little one giggled from his Uncle's playfulness before Kili started for the staircase to leave the throne room.
"Great seeing you all again!", he called to you and Bilbo. "Say 'bye', Frerin!". The boy waved and called to you all as his father disappeared with him.
"That boy is a handful", Fili sighed, turning to his Uncle.
"Like the two young Dwarves I used to look after", Thorin smirked in full amusement. You couldn't help the short laugh that slipped from your lips. Imagining Fili and Kili at a young age with Thorin as the exasperated babysitter. Fili's attention was caught by your laugh and he smiled with a warmth that nearly stopped your breath where it sat in your lungs.
"Pardon me, but you must be the (Y/n) I've heard so much about in these many years", the Princeling addressed you at last. You nodded, fighting your shock. Had Thorin and Kili really said so much??
Carefully, Fili took one of your hands into his own larger ones and lifted it up to softly lay a kiss upon your delicate fingers. It startled you, sending a shiver to your very core. "I'm Fili. At your service". To your shock, the Princeling, the Royal had not only failed to introduce himself as such, but was now bowing to you.
Bilbo's brows rose, his eyes darting in surprise between Thorin's jovial expression and Fili's interaction with you. Thorin was no fool to his nephew's charm and merely pursed his lips. Perhaps Fili himself didn't realise it, but there was interest shining in his eyes.
"Please, Prince Fili. You needn't bow to me", you begged with some humility. "If anything, I should bow to you ".
"Don't", he chuckled, giving your hand a subconscious squeeze. "You're our honoured guest. Which reminds me–". He turned to his Uncle like a deer caught in headlights. "I should help Amad with dinner preparations for the banquet tonight!". Thorin almost laughed at his nephew's quick excuse, merely dismissing him with a smile,
"Good lad. We'll see you tonight". Fili nodded, only now releasing the gentle and seemingly subcinscious hold he had on your hand to depart. He offered a quick smile to both you and Bilbo before his steps lead him away. The Prince's touch was like fire in your skin and you could still feel the roughness of his calloused hands upon your own. It was then that Thorin took to your living arrangements. He felt it was only right, being that he had a duty to you both as the King and your closest friend.
After leaving Bilbo to his living arrangements, Thorin began to lead you to your own.
"Is it how you imagined??", the King questioned hopefully, seeing you taken by the views both within and on the outside of the great city.
"No", you playfully answered with a shake of your head. Thorin, thinking you to be serious, was taken aback with disappointment. Knowing this, you finally answered after a few moments, "It's far more beautiful". A delighted smile crossed his face to match the one you then offered to him. You both fell into some semblance of a peaceful silence before the King asked,
"How is your mother? I often wondered about her as well in this past decade". Your eyes seemed to have their usual shine dimmed. His brows knitted together in some form of concern, awaiting your response.
"She passed away some time ago. Naught but a year now". It felt like an arrow had pierced the Mountain King's heart at your words. Had you suffered through this loss alone?? What had become of the home in which you lived??
"(Y/n)", he grasped your shoulder. "I am truly sorry". You shook your head, not letting your tears spill.
"She lived a good life", you insisted with a sad smile. "She made our house a home. It was taken from her by the estate. Her death was unexpected. She hadn't written a will yet, so I could not inherit the property. Bilbo, upon hearing of it, offered me refuge. I have been living in Bag End with him". Relief passed over Thorin, grateful to the Hobbit that had accompanied you. He had not let you suffer your grievances alone. "Bilbo is lonely, although he's never admitted to it. He loves the company of another. The year past has been a good one, thanks to him".
"And for that, I am glad", Thorin assured.
"Thorin!", a Dwarf hollered, making his way up the stairs. He was seemingly old, white haired with a long beard. His smile met his eyes completely, offering a merriful radiance.
"Balin", Thorin inclined his head to this seemingly familiar individual, but it was not Thorin he spoke to next.
"Bless my beard", Balin breathed, tracing your face with his mirthful eyes. "You must be (Y/n)". Without hesitation, he reached over grasping your hand firmly in his own for a shake. "Long have we been expecting your company. Welcome to the House of Durin!". Like Fili had, Balin also bowed to you. "Balin, son of Fundin. At your service, my Dear".
"(Y/n), at yours, Master Dwarf", you smiled warmly with a curtsy to the polite Dwarf.
"Balin is my advisor and distant cousin", Thorin informed you, delighted to see his companion. Balin released your hand with a chuckle,
"Stop with the formalities. I've just come to inform you that the banquet will be ready within the hour". You blanched in worry.
"I'm hardly prepared for such an occasion", you spoke aloud. This did not phase the two Dwarves.
"Do not worry", Thorin laid his hand comfortingly upon your back. "My sister is a seamstress. I will send you to her once you have settled in your quarters".
"Ah, Lady Dis", Balin sighed. "One of the best of her craft. Certainly one you can place your trust in, Dear". His assurance was all you needed. He struck you as beyond wise and compassionate. Definitely one of his house. "I'll take my leave. See you both at dinner". With a friendly wink directed to yourself, he nodded to Thorin before rushing off with other royal duties to attend to.
"Your kin are certainly diverse. But, kind all the same".
"Indeed", Thorin agreed. "For you are also one of them".

Dis was a true woman of her craft. That much was evident in the careful ways she layered the fabrics of the dress she was making. She had projects all around the room in which she crafted. Each dress, complete or incomplete seemed like it had been crafted by the most elegant dressmakers of the Elves. The fabric she used had the lightness of a summer dress and the practicality of an all-seasons outfit. It was made to be worn in any setting, formal or no. "Amad", Kili breathed out in a state of wonder. "This is lovely". In return, her son recieved a warm gaze of gratitude.
"Thank you, Kili". Fili was present, attending to the decor with the maids of the house. The Autumn Equinox festivities were heavily revered in Dwarven culture with Durin's day on approach. Dis grew excited every year, yet now, she was excited for more than one reason. "(Y/n) is finally here with us", she grinned, her smile resembling Kili's in every way. "I've wanted to complete this project ever since Thorin mentioned that she may be staying with us in adulthood. So, a few years ago, I felt inspired to craft a dress of my own make; worthy of any hall or occasion".
Her sons onlooked her excitement with mirth. It was rare that their mother had time outside of her royal duties for such things. "It is worthy of all the praise in this world", Fili assured, earning a short caress of comfort on his arm from Dis.
"It's not done yet, my son", she sighed, her smile content and motherly. Her head dipped to her lap, her raven locks falling upon her shoulders in an elegant half-up bound by many beads. One in particular, belonging to her late husband; Vili. She kept it close, attached to the braid she kept behind her right ear. It was the bead he'd fashioned for his proposal to her. Fili still admired its craftmanship. It was everything to Dis. "I am so excited to meet (Y/n)! You boys have. What is she like??".
"Fee couldn't keep his eyes to himself", Kili replied, earning himself a quirked brow from his brother. "I've never seen him so taken by a woman".
"Hang on a second, Kili! I was only curious. I've never met her before today", his brother argued, fighting his embarrassment. "All credit to her, she is beautiful. But, that's all there is to my thoughts". Dis supressed her smile for the sake of her eldest boy. There was no fooling her, however. No amount of downplaying could do that. She knew that Fili, at the very least, was enamoured by your presence. That was enough to catch her own attention enough that her eagerness to meet you was increased tenfold.
"You sure it wasn't her smile? Her eyes??", Kee teased, pouting his lips to his brother's annoyance.
"Shut up, men gorach—".
"No foul language in this house", Dis cut in like a cold blade. "Kili, enough".
"Sorry", her youngest cleared his throat, fighting his shit-eating grin with great difficulty.
"Wipe that look from your face and help Bombur in the kitchens". Despite his urge to laugh, Kili straightened when his mother addressed him again. In his deep respect for her, he wouldn't dare disobey anything she would ask and left without another word. Instead, he was quickly replaced by another dark-haired Dwarf. He bore a hat, which he removed from his head with a bow. "Pardon my interruption, Lady Dis. I need Fili's help, if y' don't mind it?".
"Not at all, Bofur", she smiled kindly, turning then to her eldest son. "It seems there is much left to do, Fili. When you leave, send Dralana to fetch (Y/n) for me, please". The blonde Dwarf nodded, offering his mother a warm and grateful smile for the way she'd handled his brother's antics.
"I take my leave, then. Dolzek menu, Amad".
"You're welcome, child", she chuckled, squeezing the hand he'd placed on her shoulder before returning to her work.
___________________________
It hadn't taken you long to settle into your spacious quarters. It was far larger than a cozy Hobbit hole, but it had all the comforts of home. A large, thick wooden bed with a fireplace on the opposing wall. A little alcove to read some books as well. There was also a window that brightened the room naturally, being that your room was on the front face of the mountain. The wardrobe they offered you was spacious with only a few old tunics that had a musty smell to them. The bedroom had been well kept with furs laid thick upon the bed and wild flowers in the few vases placed around the room.
However, despite these comforts, you could not fight the nervousness you felt; crossing through unfamiliar halls in your journey to meet the Lady Dis. Thorin's sister was an enigma to you. Clearly Kili and Fili's mother, yes. But, you pondered her resemblance to her brother; what she'd be like. More stern? Perhaps more intimidating?? You didn't know.
'Dralana', as this maid had called herself, accompanied you in good spirits. She was young, alike to yourself. Being a Dwarf, young could be anywhere from 30 to 130 years old. You didn't know. She didn't seem to fear her mistress, which gave you some form of comfort. You were even tempted to ask her thoughts on the Lady she served so kindly. "Don't look so nervous", she told you softly. "You look far too pale, Love".
"My apologies", came your almost shaky reply. "I've never met Lady Dis".
"She's a lovely sort". An amused smile dawned on Dralana's lightly bearded features. Her smile was so contagious, you couldn't help but match it. "Between you and me", her voice lowered to a whisper. "Our King Thorin is the more intimidating one of the two". You nodded, however, you understood why Thorin was so intimidating. He was incredibly private, but noble. He commanded respect with his gaze alone. Not many men could walk the world and do that, after all.
Dralana halted outside a large reinforced wooden door, knocking upon it gently, "Lady Dis! I've brought (Y/n), as requested!".
"Please, come in!", a voice like a calm sea came from the room. Dralana pushed the door open waving for you to walk through. And with great hesitation, you did. A comforting pat to your back from the young maid brought relief to your anxieties once you stepped into the musty room.
"I'll take my leave. Should you need anything, I am at your service, M'Lady!". Dralana bowed to the Dwarf that now stood up from what seemed like her work station. She was sat by a wooden stand that had a dress draped over it. Sewing materials were scattered upon the floors around her. You carefully walked closer, careful not to break anything as Dralana finally departed, closing the doors behind her.
The figure before you turned and instantly, a glittering pair of ocean orbs were upon you. Your mouth fell open slightly, the air leaving your lungs at how similar Dis' gaze was to her brother's, Fili's and Frerin's. Your head bowed to the dam before you, not wishing to be rude. "My Lady Dis", you greeted her.
"You must be (Y/n)!!", she exclaimed excitedly, taking you aback. You lifted your head, only to have her embrace you tightly. "Welcome to our home, child". All your anxiety melted at her affections. For the first time in a long time, you were being embraced by a mother. Warm hands came to cradle your face gently once you broke apart. "Fili mentioned you were beautiful! He certainly wasn't mistaken!". Your eyes had widened in some semblance of shock, despite how you tried to keep it under control. Fili had called you beautiful?? With your face growing hotter, you modestly replied with genuity,
"Thank you, M'Lady. You're far more beautiful in person than I'd imagined you to be". Dis grinned tracing your dimples with her thumbs gently before bringing her hands to your arms instead.
"You're too kind, Dear". Carefully, she lead you to her work station where a breathtaking dress was being made. It was a beige-brown, sleeveless for the moment and looked lighter than a feather. "This is one of my favourite projects". Her eyes darted to your face for approval, before continuing, "It is made for all seasons. Crafted with silken cottons and trims of mithrel on the edges. It will be a shoulderless dress, but I will be attaching these white arm sleeves, fashioned from Elven silk". It was hard not to marvel at her craftsmanship.
"Mithrel is a protective metal, is it not?", you asked, tracing the edges she'd stitched so carefully.
"It is!", she replied, all too happy with your knowledge. "I take it Thorin and Bilbo have told you about it?". You nodded.
"It's silver steel. Impenetrable by blades, but ever so beautiful. Thorin gave Bilbo a vest of Mithrel, I believe?".
"Yes. It is a noble gift to those that we regard as our kin", she murmured. "And despite how it may not offer you protection, I will give you this dress. I have been making it especially for you". At her words, your mouth fell open, causing her to laugh.
"Thank you!! But, this is too much. I can't take this!". Your modesty caused her smile to widen.
"Nonsense, child", Dis chided playfully. "It's yours". You bowed your head in thanks, yet found yourself mesmerised for the briefest moments when you looked up; for you saw Kili in her features. She noticed. "Are you alright, Love?".
"Yes", you snapped out of your gaze upon her. "You just remind me of Kili when you smile".
"I'm told that the resemblance is uncanny", Dis giggled with an amused shake to her head.
"I think Fili takes after you too. He has your eyes".
"He has the Durin eyes", she conceded. "But, I'm so grateful that he resembles his late father". You felt your heart sink at her words.
"I'm so sorry for your loss, M'Lady".
"Don't apologise", she insisted with a kind gaze. "Vili was an honourable man. He died in the most courageous way possible, defending those he loved. I look at Fili and I see that same ferocity in his heart. A quiet, brave fire".
"But, he takes after you and Thorin as well", you added. "Both him and Kili do. You both are wise, mature, but compassionate. Fili may be more wise and mature than Kili,—". Dis giggled at your observation. "—But no less compassionate than those of his house".
"Thank you". The dam brought her arm around your shoulder, caressing it in such a way that it reminded you of your own mother's kind embrace. "Thorin was right about you". Your brows knitted in confusion for only a moment, before she added, "You really are one of us; one of our kin".
Feeling warmth within your very soul, Dis insisted that you wear the dress so that she may be able to complete the final alterations. You stood in the stunning dress upon a small stool whilst she stitched and worked almost effortlessly. She made regular offers for you to sit if you were tired or drinks of water if you were thirsty. The sleeves she stitched hung comfortably loose from your arm and she altered them so that the sleeve would end at your wrist as to not bother you. She placed mithrel on the white sleeve ends, ensuring a stylish gap on each shoulder was left, exposing a small amount of skin to breathe. The care and love Dis had for her work was immeasurable. The delight in her eyes reminded you of the way your mother tended to the gardens of your old home.
She had quickly noticed your quiet, her blue eyes traveling up to meet your glassed ones. "Are you alright, Dear?", her question broke your thoughts. You nodded, chewing the inside of your lip to keep any tears at bay. Her warm hands grasped one of your own, rubbing them softly to console you.
"I lost my mother", you finally breathed out, feeling like a hot iron had been plunged through you. "You remind me of her as well. I'm sorry". Desperately, you wiped at your eyes with your spare hand.
"Don't you say sorry, Darling", Dis hushed you with a shake of her head. "It's alright for others to remind you of those of whom you have lost". She smiled with a gentle sadness, helping you wipe your tears. "It is sometimes our only reminder that they are still here, in our hearts and minds". You managed to fight the tightness in your chest, relaxing at her touches of comfort. She was right. It's how she knew Vili had never truly left her.
Dis struck you as a true mother. Concerned, passionate, headstrong, but comforting and kind. She had lost so much, yet had an unlimited amount of love to give. And you knew, from the moment she saw you, she'd regarded you as her own.
"Thank you, Dis". Her heart melted as you finally had felt comfortable enough not to be formal with her.
"Always, child. You just come to me", she replied, beginning to work again on her project.
To your own confusion, Dis had begun stitch a leather belt bound with fur to your waist. The color of your dress with this minor addition reminded you in some strange way of Fili. Or the comforts of a fireplace and a bed. The dress needed only a few alterations over the next hour before Dis finally finished her work of art.
"My masterpiece!", she marveled, pulling you down from the stool at long last. The dress fell right above your feet, leaving them unhindered and visible. "Don't you look a right angel?". You found yourself smiling at the floor in your bashfulness.
"You're too kind", you uttered out softly. "Thank you".
"It was a pleasure!", she insisted. "You are free to join the festivities of dinner now!". Your head shook to her greater confusion, before you elaborated,
"No, thank you. I'd rather wait and go with you".

Dis had linked arms with you, now ready in an elegant dark blue evening gown of her own making. You loved her thick raven locks, even admiring the soft, well-kept beard upon her strong jawline. You had helped her choose a small crown which sat nicely in her braided half-up and the studded boots she now wore with her dress. The halls were lit with fire torches upon the walls, music and merriment from the dining hall and ballroom being heard from the bowels of the city. Dwalin sat with a small Thrain upon his lap, eating and chewing with no remorse, only giving the year-old pebble boring, soft and mushy foods for his own safety. He downed pints of mead and ale like the many others enjoying the festivities. Bilbo had even been asked to retell the story of his adventures to the smaller Dwarven children that had come. He sat at one end of the large table, a group of children before him; inclusive of Frerin. Bofur, who was a toymaker at heart, had made a puppet of Smaug and joined on emphasis, enjoying the company of his friend again after so long. The party was keenly observed by Balin and Thorin, who assumed the stone throne at the head of the table.
The King smiled, watching his nephews greet their friends and family with eagerness. Each of them carried a pint of ale, recounting days long passed and joking in merriment with each other. Thorin eagerly awaited the arrival of his sister and it seemed he was not the only one.
"My King Thorin", Tauriel greeted him kindly with a bow, earning herself a warm smile from the King. It had taken time and plenty of patience, but Thorin over the few years after Erebor had been reclaimed; had come to see Elves as his friends, friends of his people. Tauriel had become kin, just as you and Bilbo had.
"Tauriel", he inclined his head in acknowledgement.
"Where is Lady Dis? I much await to see her". Thorin chuckled, only responding,
"She is on her way, with our other honoured guest".
"(Y/n)!", she huffed excitedly. "Kili mentioned that she would be here".
"And she will be". The party remained lively, yet, Fili was feeling tortured at Nori and Kili's shameless teasing.
"First an Elf maid in the family? Now a Hobbit? You lot ought to 'ave your heads checked", Nori sighed, exasperated and amused.
"It's not like that!", Fili insisted. "She's a lovely lass, but I can't say I fancy her". Dwalin, who sat mere feet away at the table, scrutinized the conversation with the same unamused expression he'd had in Rivendell many years ago. He chewed obnoxiously, cradling Kili's second son effortlessly in one arm.
"Y' can't expect me to believe that codswallop after your brother sprouted the same thing. And now look", he grunted. "Married and child-bound to an Elf maid. 'Can't say I fancy Elf maids', my hairy arse". Fili scoffed at Dwalin's words, slugging at his ale absent-mindedly, before he heard Balin's voice.
"May I introduce, the Lady Dis to the party and her companion (Y/n) of the Shire; one of our two honoured guests this evening!". Ale painfully travelled through Fili's nasal cavity, causing him to clear his throat and wipe his face.
"You alright?", Kili teased, raising his brows.
"Fine", his brother snapped back, turning his ocean gaze to the staircase in which you descended. Your arms were linked with his mother's and the dress you wore— it was his mother's craft. He noticed the little ways in which it resembled his ensemble. The dress looked stunning on your smaller frame, cascading like a warm waterfall to your feet. Sleeves had also been added, breaking the neutrality. The mithrel glitterered perfectly. Your curls were long and loose upon your shoulders. You were just so naturally regal. Fili felt a strange tightness within his chest, attempting an almost nervous slug at his ale. "Mahal, she's beautiful". His words were quiet, beneath his breath whilst he managed to tear his eyes from your form.
"What did I tell ye?", Dwalin huffed amusedly, shaking his head. "Codswallop".
Upon entry, you had adjusted to the rowdy party setting. Some Dwarves sang and danced upon the tables. Other Dwarves were less civilized, throwing food with obnoxious conversation and laughter. You admired the various decor, cozily coloured orange with gold trimmings. Fili had picked them out; you knew as such. You had spied him from across the room after getting well acquainted with Tauriel. You kept any eagerness for seeing him restrained whilst you sat with Thorin, Balin and Dis.
"Another fine party for another beautiful equinox", Balin sighed, joyfully scanning the room. Dis nodded in agreement, observing the many faces from Erebor that had come to celebrate with their royalty. Bilbo, alike to yourself, had grown used to the chaos of Dwarven mealtimes. To your eyes, he seemed happier in Erebor. Less isolated. You turned your gaze to Thorin, who eyed you happily as a proud father would.
"It's so beautiful. The people are rowdy, but it truly does make the party all the merrier", you observed, tucking into the hot servings of food.
"Just wait until the town dance. Then the party truly begins", Thorin grinned. Dis matched his smile with excitement. This was something every Dwarf looked forward to on the approach to Durin's day and it was so precious to see all that happiness right in front of you. The food was a delight to your stomach, the sweet mead filling your soul. The air was crisp and cool, wafting in from the stone balcony. You found yourself relaxing at long last, enjoying the atmosphere when Dis turned to you.
"(Y/n), why don't you participate in the town dance??". You grew nervous at the idea. You hardly knew anyone or the dance.
"It is fun!", Tauriel insisted gently, her smile radiant like that of the glittering stars. Aside from being a powerful warrior, you understood why Kili had fallen for her. "I will be participating".
"By tradition, you need to find yourself a partner", Balin added, smiling for your comfort.
"How??", you sputtered. "I've only ever done circle dances". He chuckled at your expression, wholeheartedly jovial in this situation.
"It's nothing complicated, My Dear. Just take a goblet of ale and offer it to any man. If they drink, they accept the offer to be your dancing partner".
"I will show you", Dis giggled, Balin already knowing what she was up to. She stood with a goblet of her own, making her way over to a very stoic looking Dwarf.
"Oh, he'll love this", Thorin restrained his laughter.
"Who will?", you asked in your complete confusion.
"Dwalin", the two males replied simultaneously. That name rung a bell. Thorin and Bilbo had mentioned him to you. You remembered him not being overly approachable. Just from what you were told of first impressions. All three of you watched as Dis began to offer her drink to Dwalin. He had a baby upon his lap that he bounced about and cradled effortlessly before he snatched the goblet from his female counterpart and downed the ale. He didn't seem particularly impressed or excited, but Dis didn't seem to mind as her steps brought her back to you.
"And now I have my dance partner", she grinned.
"How is he taking it being on both babysitting and dancing duty?", Thorin enquired, not able to restrain any amused expression.
"He's being Dwalin about it", she sighed. "Taking it with indifference and chewing loudly, as he always does".
"I almost feel sorry for him", Balin sniggered. "Almost". He turned to you. "Now lass, it's your turn". Dis poured you a goblet of ale, handing it to you eagerly. The metal felt freezing within your smaller hands, but you became afraid of your hands becoming clammy in your nervousness. You bowed to the three Dwarves and their Elven counterpart before walking into the crowds in an attempt to find a partner. You were tempted to grab Fili, but you were positive that he'd already have a partner alike to his brother; some part of you feeling the tinges of disappointment. You had spied Bilbo, but his storytelling hadn't ceased. You couldn't interrupt him now, although you were running out of time. You quickly spotted a Dwarf near Dwalin with the oddest hair you'd seen meeting in three separate points.
"If y' going to ask Nori to dance, ye better mind your pockets, lass"
"What's that supposed to mean?", you inquired with some worry.
"It means, find y'self another dance partner", Dwalin ground out with a roll of his eyes.
"Aye", you sighed with some exasperation. You hardly needed a sneak-thief's hands on your waist, let alone in your pockets as well. And to your panic, Thorin had stepped up to address everyone. You were too late!
"Good evening, everyone!". Every Dwarf and dam fell silent, turning their gazes to their King happily. "This is your last chance to find yourselves a partner for the dance before we begin!". The few Dwarves that didn't wish to participate started to leave and others in full confidence; had found partners.
"Dori, I'll dance with her! She has no-one", a soft, but polite voice murmured from nearby, only to be shut down.
"You cause injury to every dance partner, every equinox, Ori. Just skip out, for the love of Mahal. Dancing is just not in your talents". You spied the young Dwarf with sympathy and thought that alike to him, you might just skip out as well.
"It's for the best", a kind voice reassured you, now next to you unexpectedly. "Ori is a good lad. He just has two left feet". The familiar golden mane of the Prince in your peripheral gave him away. How long had he been standing there?? A soft laugh rumbled in his chest, his ocean eyes moving to meet your own. You followed in soft laughter, fawning,
"Aw, but I just feel bad for him. You can see he likes dancing".
"I take it that you do as well", the Princeling added, gesturing to the goblet in your hands.
"Yes— well. I have no partner", you confessed with shame. "I've run out of time. I have to leave the floor". You moved to dismiss yourself from his presence, not wishing to be in the way of the dance, when you felt the warmth of his hand on your own. His mouth parted and he nearly retracted only to find that you were receptive to him.
"May I partake?", Fili offered, his voice tender and light. He grasped the goblet with his free hand for elaboration. You found yourself fighting your shock, nodding without words, knowing that they couldn't be trusted at this very moment. His head dipped politely when he took the ale; and within but a moment, he'd finished the beverage, setting the goblet down at last.
"You may now begin!", Thorin flagged the crowd with a boisterous wave of his hand.
"Fili!", you whispered to him amidst your sudden panic. "I don't know what to do!". His ocean eyes found yours again, unphased by your words.
"Just trust me", his hushed voice soothed you, whilst his hands took yours. His grin was light and reassuring, his thumbs running caresses over your soft skin. A warmth spread within your heart, your hands subconsciously squeezing his own back. For reasons you couldn't yet place, you felt entirely at ease with Fili. You trusted him completely.
"I don't believe it", Dwalin breathed out incredulously, eyeing you with the Princeling from afar.
"I can", Kili grinned, taking his bride by her hands lovingly.
"So, he finally put aside his hogwash and grew some bullocks. About time". Dis playfully whacking her dance partner's shoulder to his own amusement. She smiled almost proudly at her firstborn,
"I'm happy for him, if this is what he wants. I just want him to be happy".
"Aye. Me too", Dwalin conceded with some hesitation, adding, "Even if the little ingrate couldn't choose a maid from Erebor".
"Just shut up!", Dis giggled, allowing the hardened Dwarf to take her hands in his own, Thrain strapped to his chest safely. Bilbo had ceased storytelling, encouraging the children to watch the various pairs in the crowd. Bofur leapt onto the dinner table with his flute handy, ready to serenade the party with joy itself. The music had changed from various drum beats to a more calculated song. Bilbo noted how similar the merriness of the music sounded in comparison to the music the Dwarves sang at his home in Bag End, how similar it was to the Hobbit festival music.
"Reminds me of a summer's eve festival", you murmured, unable to fight your smile as the music built up.
"I've grown up with this. Every year, not being able to participate. It's beautiful. And I'm excited that I finally can". The Princeling matched your jovial expression, bringing your left hand to cradle his shoulder, whilst he took to holding the small of your back with his right. "Are you comfortable?". Carefully, he began to sway to the music with you, your joined steps in time with the music going faster.
"Yes", you exhaled, causing a short laugh to leave his throat.
"Good". Fili's face broke into a grin as he lead you carefully to start jumping whilst you swayed. You took his lead, eagerly showing him your trust and enthusiasm. "Right. Grab my shoulders.. now!". Instantly, you obeyed, his steady hands reaching for your waist. You became weightless, a blissful cry leaving your lips when he effortlessly swung you above his head. Your head was spinning when he placed you down. His hand reached for yours and he used the momentum to twirl you around. You laughed when your face was met with his hard shoulder, catching a comforting whiff of smoked wood and honey in his scent. "Keeping up, (Y/n)?", he teased with a hidden underlying concern.
"Of course", you pushed back to his amusement, knowing that he'd take it as a challenge. A mirthful chuckle left his lips, his brows raising,
"Alright then". Holding you as close as he possibly could, Fili fell into the faster rhythms of the dance with you. His hands squeezed yours whilst he spun you both in a circle. You enjoyed the texture of his callouses on your skin, the way his larger hands made you feel warm and the steadiness of them whilst he held you. Your eyes were like stars to him. He couldn't look away, eyeing your expression for any unsurity and finding nothing but trust and bliss there. It warmed the very depths of his soul. For Fili, it was hard to love others outside of his family. Many sought to take advantage of the next in line for the throne for their riches or status. Yet, for the first time in a long time, his regality was forgotten. He could be his true self easily around you, to his own surprise. It was you. Your fun-loving nature. You helped him let go, even if it was for tonight alone. Another cry of laughter left your lips as he swung you again above his head for the last time in the dance. Your feet were upon his as the music came to a halt, your hands still clasped to his shoulders. Your ragged breaths mingled, the joy having not left either of your two expressions. The blonde's nose brushed yours, the faint cry Kili let out at Nori's laughter making you both laugh.
"Shut up, Nori! It's okay for the lady to lift the man in the dance!". The youngest Durin grumbled. "Every year!". Tauriel's laughter echoed your own. Your eyes scanned the Prince's blue ones. His hands drew imaginary patterns on your waist, sparking shivers to your core. You need only have leaned in to kiss him, every fibre of your being wanting to.
"Did you like the dance?", his voice was but a soft breath. You nodded, still feeling breathless yourself. Resisting your impulses, you allowed your head to come to a rest upon his shoulder, sparking him to rub your back comfortingly. You were tired, but he held you steady. Fili's heart knew if given the chance, he'd hold you forever. A sudden sadness struck him. You would go home after your stay, however long it may be. He would be bound to stay in Erebor, as always. How many years would pass before your next visit? There were so many unsurities. It was then that you llifted your head, smiling at the Prince and melting his heart in the process. You broke from his gentle grip and curtsied politely.
"Thank you for partaking with me". He grinned, bowing to you in return,
"The honour was mine, My Lady".
"You both danced so well!", Dis fawned grabbing you both by an arm each gently. Your gaze hit the floor again in your bashfulness.
"Thank you. But, Fili took the lead. He's the real reason I didn't fall over", you uttered modestly.
"Nonsense, child", she chided gently. "It always takes two to dance these songs". Fili nodded in agreement, chuckling softly. His eyes traced your features again, memorising every dimple, your eyes.
"(Y/n) is quite the talented dancer. If she had not trusted me, it would have all been for naught. I was lucky to have her". Dis surpressed her intrigue at her son's words, watching how you took them. She could see more modesty in your bashfulness as you bowed your head in gratitude. Dis decided then to leave you both be, to observe from afar, if at all.
"Where's (Y/n)?", Thorin had asked once his sister was seated with him again.
"Being young. As the night deserves". Thorin nodded. "She's quite safe with Fili". At his sister's words, the King found himself grinning whilst he sipped his ale. He saw the both of you dancing, marveling at how quick you both had become so trusting and fond of the other. And perhaps some part of him wished, alike to Dis, for you both to be happy together. Either as friends or more.
The party remained active, a few of the couples continuing to dance to the merriness of the music still being played in the background. Dwalin had finished his meal and had taken to playing with Thrain, using his homemade thistle-rattle. Everyone knew that despite his hard exterior, the stoic dwarf had a good, soft heart when it mattered. He'd spotted both yourself and Fili leaving for the balcony in good spirits. "With any luck, your Uncle might give y' a cousin!", he mused in a childish manner, bouncing the little pebble. "He just needs to get his act together and grow some jambags!". Thrain's little brown eyes sparkled at his Uncle's playful expressions, unable to understand anything but Dwalin's lighthearted tone of voice. Thrain gurgled back, drooling lazily. "Agreed", the older Dwarf huffed back, grabbing a cloth napkin to wipe at the babe's mouth.
The cool autumn breeze blew wistfully upon the balcony, rustling the surrounding trees. It was only a small area barely poking from the mountain by the front gates, undecorated and empty. Stars had hit their peaks in the sky above and the moon seemed like a romantic spotlight, shining upon the mountain face. Fili's blue eyes had become beautifully brighter with the touches of moonlight, the brightness seeming to give him an ethereal aura that stole your breath from your lungs. You followed him in leaning on the thick railing of stone, finding it hard not to admire the land in which he and his family lived. Now you understood why Thorin had missed Erebor. This was the kingdom he'd grown up in. Beautiful markets, festivals, Equinox celebrations. Cool autumn evenings with the comfort of good food. You even found yourself pondering if he'd ever stood here on one fair evening with a Dwarf he admired romantically. If he'd ever had the chance to experience the magic of the feelings in your own blood. Feelings like the ones you have now for his nephew. "It's really beautiful", Fili murmured at last in some form of contentment. He turned to you, making you painfully aware that you stood almost completely shoulder to shoulder. You nodded softly.
"More beautiful than any view back home", you breathed, reminding him of the green grasses and stone paths of the Shire.
"The Shire is beautiful in its own way. Very similar to here. All the same comforts. Just more spacious".
"Careful, Fili. I might end up staying forever if you keep advertising like that". You'd only half-meant the joke, already loving Erebor. You'd even debated staying longer than your planned month. Just to be with Thorin and his family for a while longer.
"And you would be most welcome to stay", Fili insisted, catching you offguard. "If that's what you choose, of course".
"Thank you". Your smile was contagious, eliciting a grin from him. "I can see why you like it out here. It's peaceful".
"There's another reason". The Princeling smiled with an almost childish delight, looking to you before pointing to the left of the horizon for the nearby stone city. "Dale usually lights lanterns of zharr. That's how they celebrate the seasonal change. Their new year may be on approach. I cannot be sure", he chuckled. "But, I love it". Fili never shared his small pleasures with anyone, afraid of being vulnerable. So, he'd always come alone to watch over the passing years. With your company, he finally felt as if someone could share in his delights. You admired this side to him, seeing him so in awe of the golden lanterns that now scattered the dark skies.
"Zharr", you repeated, stilling his breath with your pronunciation of his Khuzdul slip.
"It means 'fire' in my native language", he whispered, dipping his head in his slight embarrassment. "My apologies. When I get excited, I tend to slip various words".
"I love it", you blurted out all too excitedly, making his eyes widen and brows furrow from surprise and confusion. "Can you talk more?".
"In Khuzdul?". Fili felt his ears were betraying him. Why would a Hobbit take such curiosity in such an indelicate language? Elvish was the usual favourite..
"Yes, in Khuzdul", you insisted with a short giggle, subconsciously leaning into the warmth of his shoulder. The blonde Dwarf was at a loss.
"What would you like to know?".
"Anything!", you shrugged, enthused nonetheless. Fili's mind drifted to his favourite words of assurance, hoping to impress you with some more gentle words of his language rather than the battle-cries and manly compliments. His lips parted, finding himself in hesitation. He offered you a smile, tracing your face with fondness,
"Menu gamut khed". Goosebumps scattered across your skin, something about the way he spoke in his native tongue intriguing you. Heat had also risen in your cheeks at the intensity and gentleness of his gaze, the moon masking it with its pale light.
"What does that mean?".
"That you are a wonderful person". Using his elbow, he nudged your arm gently. "Which you are". Your head bowed in bashfulness, your laugh bringing speed to his heart.
"Thank you". Fili beamed, murmuring,
"Ai menu duzhuk, mazarinh".
"You cheeky bastard, what does that mean?", you laughed.
"At your service, daring lady". You were unable to mask your amusement, seeing his own.
"Hobbits are hardly daring, Princeling", you shot back teasingly.
"Funny", his brows rose in challenge. "Both Hobbits I know are. Having travelled so far from the comforts of their home. But, that secret is safe with me". Cheekily, he offered you a wink, your eyes averting with some shyness.
"Maybe you should be daring and travel?", you suggested. "Stay in Bag End?". His heart wrenched, the brightness in his eyes seeming to dim. He wouldn't allow you to notice as his eyes travelled back to the horizon.
"I'm not allowed such freedoms", the blonde shrugged, trying to sound nonchalant. He fumbled with his fingers as an unconscious way of soothing himself. You could tell that you'd plucked the wrong string with him.
"You could always get Kili to cover for you? Thorin is still King. He'd let you go?". The hopefulness in your voice did little to change his resolve.
"Thorin will not be King for much longer. I am his heir. All of his duties and my current ones will fall onto me as soon as he decides to abdicate the throne", Fili sighed. "I will be too busy. And Kili hasn't been groomed for the throne like myself. He cannot perform the duties all on his own. I'm already far too busy to leave, to my detriment". Your brows furrowed in your concern, subconsciously reaching to hold his forearm, caressing it comfortingly. He restrained himself from reaching to hold you, swallowing the lump in his throat.
"You don't seem pleased to be the next in line", you confessed, eliciting a soft, yet sad smile from the Princeling.
"I'm not particularly happy or sad", he murmured. "I never asked for this, but I'm happy to be a King for my people. My lack of freedom is worth their happiness, their safety. I have a duty to them". You nodded in understanding, meeting eyes with him. And for reasons you couldn't understand at all, you could read his gaze, seeing an underlying worry.
"But, there's something else on your mind", you inderluded, giving his forearm a squeeze. His eyes had grown wider in surprise. No friend of his had ever seen through him like that.
"There is", his voice grew quiet, his gaze falling to his hands that still fumbled. You knew he was ashamed of whatever it was. Fili gnawed the inside of his bottom lip, his eyes seeming glassy. "I am afraid, (Y/n)". His confession was quiet, strained with hesitation and pain. You nodded, moving your hand upon his two for his comfort. His bare skin was burning hot to the touch, clammy out of nervousness. He enveloped your hand in his two, using his fingers and palms to warm your cooler skin and to soothe himself. "A curse lies upon that throne. It has been apparent in my bloodline since the rule of my great grandfather, Thror". You knew of which curse he was referring to. Thorin and Bilbo had told you of it. Dragonsickness. It had been seventeen years since Erebor had been reclaimed. Seventeen years since Thorin overcame his Dragonsickness, giving all of the gold away that was promised to Laketown to rebuild Dale and the lake city. He had used the rest to rebuild the kingdom of Erebor in which you now stood. Although there was no gold left, Fili feared the curse. That it may change him or cause him to have uncharacteristic greed and arrogance. There was nothing he feared more. "He became entirely consumed by a lack of compassion. His greed set the foundations for Smaug. And when Smaug was no more, the sickness fell to the next in line, Thorin. I watched it consume him. Make him jealous, obsessive, unkind. It frightened me. It still does. It may have skipped my grandfather, Thrain, but I fear it may still linger here". When Fili's eyes closed, he imagined himself totally enthralled by the curse on a throne of dishonour. He feared above all, that he would lose himself. "I cannot allow myself to be that. I cannot—". Your touch upon his bearded face paused his anxious ramblings. Softly, your thumb traced his cheekbones, wiping the stray tears that had begun to fall unbeknownst to himself. His ocean orbs met yours, fully glassed, still brimming with tears.
"And you won't be that, Fili", your voice was a hushed whisper, allowing your hand to linger on his hot skin. You threaded your fingertips into the hair by his temple, making his skin light up in goosebumps. He thanked Mahal that his arms were covered by his coat. "I see you now. You are compassionate, courageous and selfless. Being courageous isn't about doing things without fear. It's being scared and doing it anyway. Don't be ashamed of your fear, Fili. You won't be cursed with dragonsickness. There is no cursed gold here and no greed in your heart". Your words soothed the Prince. Unsurity still remained, although it had lessened.
"(Y/n), I'm sorry—", he rasped, allowing himself to sniffle. Guilt filled his heart at letting you see him weep, even if there was no intent. Fili wondered what both his Uncle Frerin and father would've thought, seeing him so pressured by fear. It felt dishonourable to him, having been brought up never to express oneself with tears in public, as it showed too much vulnerability for a potential King. He always had to be strong for his people. He couldn't remember the last time he cried, now that he thought of it.
"Fili, it's alright", you hushed him, continuing your soft caresses on his face. You didn't seem to mind or scorn the blonde Prince, to his surprise. There was no judgement in your eyes at his tears. "If you need time, I can leave you".
"Don't", he blurted out, coming to hold the hand you'd laid upon his face. "You are a comfort. Please don't leave". You smiled in some semblance of relief, still noticing the tears that lingered. Moving your other hand from his, you gently held the braids closest to his face, stroking down the plaits soothingly. Not realizing the importance of hair, you didn't pay any mind to the way he looked at you with a glint of longing, only focusing on bringing your foreheads together the way Thorin had with you so many times before. Your knowledge of this embrace surprised Fili, but he didn't resist your touch. Your noses brushed, his forehead gently resting against your own. Softly, he inhaled your scent of earthy flowers, allowing himself to be at peace with you. His own spare hand moved to move the stray curls from your face, eyeing your face for unsurity. He felt complete. It was an odd feeling. But, it was as if an invisible thread attached to his soul had met its other end. His mouth parted, his breath hitching from hesitation. "You're so beautiful". Fili felt the warmth increase within your skin, your breath having stilled at the way he spoke that phrase. Despite your underlying modesty and doubt, there was no dishonesty in the Princeling's steady ocean eyes whilst they danced over your features.
"So are you", your reply was but a breath, fanning over his nearby lips. You gently ran your fingertips down one of his braids, admiring the softness of them and the warmth pouring from his being as the evening grew colder around you. Being so close with him, you finally felt as if your heart had found its home. It was a connection not even you could fathom, as if it had been long in the making. That same longing danced within his gaze, his scent both comforting and intoxicating to you. The Prince became sure of himself, his lashes coming to flutter against your supple skin when his face neared yours. Out of anticipation for his touch, you moistened your lips, deciding to help close the short distance.
"Khîê–", his hot breath ghosted your lips before he seized them gently with his own. His kiss was delicate and hot like fire, slowly becoming more intense. Your hands weaved into the strands of his silken mane, a soft hum leaving his throat at the blissful goosebumps your touch gave him. His touch left tingles wherever his hands brushed, his strong grip molding your form into his. Fili's brows had furrowed subconsciously in his concentration, his lips swollen when you parted. Your foreheads remained together, eyes still closed. Fili's voice had become hoarse when he murmured, "Amrâlimê". You could hear the soft smile in his voice, the word he uttered sending flutters along your spine like it called to your heart itself. When your eyes opened to meet Fili's deep blues, you shared in the smile he'd offered to you. He tilted your face upwards, cradling it like delicate glass. You found yourself melting into Fili's touch when his lips pressed again to yours in a feathersoft kiss. "I have something to offer you", he breathed out once your lips parted, bringing your hand up to the braid that sat behind his left ear. He wrapped your fingertips around the metal bead at the end of the plait before allowing you to pull it from his hair. The silver bead gleamed within your palm, the moonlight revealing the intricate rune and few symbols engraved upon it that you did not understand.
"Fili, it's beautiful!", you marveled at the craftmanship, eliciting a gorgeous smile from the Prince in his mirth.
"My mother and father made a bead for both my brother and myself. They both put their love into the make of it and engraved it with the markings of their houses. The main, being Durin". Your brows rose in shock, your mouth falling open.
"Fili, I can't take this, your parents—".
"Made it for courtship", he cut in, ceasing your anxious ramblings gently. "For my One". Although you knew next to nothing of Dwarven courtship, you knew that Fili was offering you something more sacred than this bead. His life, his heart, his soul. Fili's eyes were hopeful whilst he gnawed his bottom lip. "(Y/n), I feel as if a thread ties my heart to yours. Please tell me if this connection is just mine alone". Reaching for his hand, your head shook.
"It isn't. I was drawn to you for reasons I couldn't place. And then I realised something in my time with you tonight". His brows rose in interest, begging you to continue. "You feel like home, Fili. Something I've not had in what seems like forever. After I lost my mother, I felt empty. Bag End is a beautiful home, but my heart knew it wasn't where I belonged. Being here with you, being with your family, I finally feel like I belong".
"Then stay", Fili's lips ghosted near your own, his eyes seeming to almost plead with you silently. Allowing your actions to speak for you, your lips captured his in a feverish kiss, his body instinctively pressing flush upon your own.
"Like you had to ask", you hummed playfully after reducing him into a state of bliss. A giggle left the Dwarf Prince, his grin meeting his eyes. The fates had finally blessed him with his One. Per the Dwarven custom, Fili reached for a cluster of strands sitting behind your right ear and had separated them into three parts. His bottom lip sat between his teeth whilst carefully weaving your strands into a soft, silken braid. The excitement glittering within his eyes could not be masked, his breath having stilled in his concentration. The moonlight continued to make the Prince seem otherworldly and divine, as if the Durins were made for its rays. When the bead had clicked into place at the end of your braid, you beheld Fili's handiwork in wonder. A sense of accomplishment fell upon you as if the bead had always meant to be there. "It's so beautiful", you whispered, tugging upon it softly.
"It belongs to you now, like my heart". You carefully took his face into your smaller hands, brushing the stray hairs from his face whilst his hands came to caress the tips of your pointed ears. His gaze shamelessly admired your delicate features, your soft freckles and cascading curls.
"I will treasure both with all that I am, giving you my own heart in return". Before your heads could meet, your gazes were drawn to the approaching footsteps of none other than the Mountain King himself. Fili remained relaxed in the presence of his Uncle as he approached, smiling broadly with pride, "I hope I am not interrupting".
"Not at all, Uncle", Fili insisted in genuity, Thorin's gaze falling upon your courting braid.
"It seems much has been realised between you both. And I much wish to congratulate you".
"Thank you", you beamed at the man you'd continuously come to appreciate as a father figure. His soul warmed at your modest nature. For Thorin, it had become apparent that fate had not only blessed him with you, but his nephew as well. Perhaps, you were always destined to be Thorin's family? Not that he minded, considering that he had regarded you as kin since you were young. Yet now, looking upon the woman you had become, he realised that his nephew could not be in better hands with such a kindhearted spouse to share in his life.
With an affectionate smile, the King found himself laying a hand upon each of your shoulders. "Know this. I am proud of you both, always".
When you and Fili rejoined the party, a shout bellowed from Dwalin. "I bloody knew it!!", he had shouted once spying your courting braid from afar. "You owe me 50 coins, Nori! Pay up!!". Sputtering excuses, the sneak-thief saw fit to try and leave to no avail. Dwalin handed Kili's youngest son back to him before vaulting over the table in pursuit of the smaller Dwarf. Fili's lips pursed in his restraint of laughter, eyeing your mirthful grin in his peripheral. Excusing himself from you, he travelled to where his mother onlooked in fondness.
"Fili", Dis sighed, her eyes glimmering in delight.
"Amad". His smile was as soft as it had been with you, allowing his face to be cradled by his mother.
"You've found happiness. It's more than I could've hoped for you". Her son's head dipped in gratefulness.
"I am happy", he assured her. "And maybe, we will have our first Queen Under the Mountain?". Dis pressed a kiss to Fili's forehead, holding it against her own for a moment.
"I await that day with great excitement, my son".
Everything was perfect...
_______________________________
The halls of Durin had been tense.
Thorin Oakenshield paced the halls of his home, his sister and youngest nephew with his family awaiting news from Fili eagerly. It had been many hours since they last laid eyes upon him. "Great Uncle", Frerin called upon the King, catching his fond attention. "How much longer?".
"Uncle Fee is taking forever", Thrain whined in addition. Tauriel rubbed the back of her youngest son in consolation whilst his father held him close. Frerin bounced on his heels restlessly, recieving an amused smile from Thorin. The older Dwarf knelt in front of the auburn haired boy, brushing his messy hair from his face before patting his shoulder affectionately.
"He shouldn't be much longer now, Dear One", he assured.
"Calm down, boys", Kili grinned, bobbing the pebble in his arms playfully. "The more you think about it and gripe, the longer it'll take for you".
"No fair", Thrain huffed, pouting in his frustration.
"It has been a while", Dis sighed in worry, gnawing on her lower lip out of nervousness. "Perhaps I should—".
"No", Thorin placated her gently. "You needn't check on him. He will come to us. Have faith". Her eldest brother always had a way of making her feel at ease, even when she didn't want to be. Tauriel extended her comforting touch to Dis, the mother sharing an appreciative look toward her daughter-in-law. Footsteps echoed in the hall, alarming everyone to a new presence. Bilbo came rushing up the steps at the end of the hall, panting from exhaustion.
"I came as soon as I heard. Has it happened yet?".
"No, but you are right on time, old friend", Thorin grinned. The Hobbit, despite his exhaustion, offered a grateful smile to the Mountain King. All of them awaited Fili's return with bated breath for only moments more before the wooden doors nearest to them opened. With exhaustion riddling his entire form, the golden-haired Prince huffed with a lopsided smile. Frerin hugged his Uncle excitedly, recieving a half-hug back.
"It's time". As if everyone knew what the announcement was, they filed through the door and into the winding halls beyond. It wasn't long before the group reached an open room.
"(Y/n)", Kili breathed out, excited to see his sister in-law again after so many hours. He raced to your side, hugging your ragged form in your bedrest. Thorin, despite how he'd remained calm before, also had his eyes clouded in concern.
"Are you alright?", he questioned, his eyes monitoring you for any signs of pain.
"I'm fine", you sighed, offering your husband a grateful look whilst he assumed your bedside again. Bilbo quickly cleared Kili aside, surprising you with his presence. Your shout of joy at seeing your old friend had everyone laughing happily at your reunion. The older Hobbit embraced you softly, caressing your back comfortingly whilst he held you. Dis and Tauriel had even taken to your side afterwards, checking you over for injury in a bout of protectiveness.
"She's fine", Fili assured your family, grinning in delight when he turned and reached down into a nearby cradle. "I've got someone who wants to meet you all".
"Our cousin!!", Frerin screeched in his excitement, jumping up and down eagerly.
Everyone watched in pure excitement as Fili cradled a small bundle gently in his arms, bringing it closer to his family. The babe had sandy blonde hair dusting his small head, his little ears tilted back and pointed; like a Hobbit's ears, only more delicate and rounded. The feet were only slightly enlarged, taking more after the Dwarven side. "It's a boy", his father announced proudly, everyone letting out a cheer and round of applause. Dis was the first to hold her grandson, tears brimming in her ocean gaze.
"(Y/n), Fili; he's so beautiful". It was hard for Fili to keep his own tears at bay, seeing his mother so emotionally enthralled by his child. With astounding gentleness, she laid a kiss on her grandson's forehead, passing him over to her brother Thorin. The older Dwarf was just as taken by the child, his voice wet with the tears that threatened to fall,
"He is an exact combination of you both". Thorin's thumb brushed the rounded Hobbit-like cheeks. He could hardly believe that the boy in his arms would one day be the King of Erebor. "He's spectacular".
"We've chosen a name", you spoke up, catching the immediate attention of everyone again. "We're naming our firstborn after a man we owe almost everything to". You looked to Fili with an excited glint in your eyes, silently asking him to continue.
"We're calling our son Thorin III, the next King of Erebor after myself. We are naming him after the greatest King to walk these halls". Fili's eyes travelled to his Uncle whose mouth had parted in some semblance of shock. Thorin's eyes glanced both at yours and within Fili's, checking to see if you'd played him. There was no jesting, no dishonesty. "You were a father figure to myself, Kili and even (Y/n). You didn't have to try most days. And we are eternally grateful to you". Fili swallowed the lump in his throat, trying to mask his tears, "Know that you are loved dearly, Uncle. By all of us". Thorin's bottom lip tremored before being pursed, the King taking a deep breath to calm the sea of emotions within his heart and mind. Thorin hadn't even thought twice about assuming a parental role when it came to his nephews after the loss of their father. Nor did he ever expect gratitude of any kind for the rearing in return. Only now did he realise the extent of his actions. His eyes danced to you. You who had always wordlessly considered the King a father figure from your youth to your adulthood.
"This is an honour greater than any I have ever recieved", Thorin said amidst the few tears that fell softly from his strong eyes. "I am grateful to the both of you. Eternally grateful". His steps brought him closer to Fili, who took his Uncle into a solid Dwarven embrace, their heads meeting with a masculine hardiness. Dis covered her mouth to cover the sobs of joy that now wracked her body. Kili shared a grin with Tauriel, fondly remembering the days his own boys were born. The two pebbles, now 10 and 5, anxiously awaited the moment they could meet their cousin for the first time.
"Can we hold him?!", Frerin begged. "Please, Uncle Fee??". The blonde Dwarf laughed in the embrace he shared with his Uncle, taking the small bundle back.
"You may, as long as you both can be careful", he warned with an underlying sternness.
"We promise!", Thrain begged, his hazel orbs glittering with desperation. Fili knelt by his two nephews, peeling back the blanket that swaddled the pebble. Frerin gently ran his hand along the sleeping face of his cousin, marveling at the softness. "He's so tiny!". Everyone laughed at Thrain's proclaimation.
"Which is why you need to be so careful". Frerin nodded at his Uncle's words, reaching for the tiny hand that had curled up by the chest of the sleeping baby.
"I'm your cousin", Frerin whispered to the bundle, the tiny hand curling around one of his fingers. "And like Thrain, I will always protect you, Thorin. I promise".
"We love you, Thorin", Thrain had cooed, stroking his hand over the babe's sandy curls. Bilbo reached for a handkerchief, wiping at his eyes desperately.
"You holding up alright?", you asked the older Hobbit, him nodding and sniffling.
"Just something in my eyes". The family of Durin shared a laugh, Fili seeing fit to allow the Burglar a hold of his firstborn. "I'm— I'm in no condition to–".
"Of course you are", Fili insisted, moving the bundle into Bilbo's arms. He felt awkward at first before he quickly adjusted to the little one's presence, seeming to completely halt his tears. A joyful smile lit up Bilbo's face whilst he rocked the bundle softly.
"Hello, Thorin", he giggled nervously, holding the babe close to his chest.
"So Fee", Kili called to his brother with a suggestive brow raise. "When are you going to have another one, eh?". Tauriel elbowed her husband with an incredulous expression, bringing out a guffaw from the younger Durin.
"About that". The room fell silent in shock, Fili's blue hues travelling to where you laid upon the bed.
"We had twins", your addition almost had Bilbo fainting.
"Tell me you have a girl!", Kili begged with a childlike delight.
"Calm down, Kili", Fili laughed. "We had another boy". His younger brother was not disappointed in the slightest, understanding that girls were quite rare in Dwarven culture to begin with. He considered himself a blessed Uncle nonetheless.
"Where is he?!", Tauriel fawned, eagerly eyeing the room.
"With a healer, getting cleaned up and checked".
"Your Highnesses!", Dralana called to you and your family excitedly. Stepping into the room with a respectful bow, she revealed the bundle she carried carefully within her arms. The babe had the exact same ears and feet as his brother, the curls upon his head being more of a golden-brown in comparison to his brother Thorin III. There was also light tufts of hair along his jawline, unlike his older brother. Fili gestured to Kili, Dralana handing the bundle to the dark haired Durin. Both brothers inclined their heads to the kind servant as she departed.
"Hello, little one", Kili greeted the newborn, Tauriel brushing one of her delicate digits over the boy's head.
"Mírë", the Elf-Maid cooed. "So precious". Fili approached his younger brother, caressing the head of his second son, before addressing the room.
"Allow me to introduce to all of you–", he spared a glance to his mother especially, "–Our second son, Vili".
"You didn't", Kili's mouth fell open. "You didn't, Fee. You didn't—". The younger Durin pursed his lips, attempting to calm the tears that threatened to fall.
"We did, for our father". Kili only managed a nod, his head dipping to kiss the babe's forehead. Tauriel gladly took the bundle from her husband, allowing him to embrace his older brother. Kili shook whilst he wept into his brother's shoulder, a bright image of their father lingering in his mind.
"Your father would be beside himself", Dis sniffled with a chuckle. "But, most of all, I think he'd be humbled and proud to see his two sons right at this very moment". Both boys with tear stained cheeks smiled warmly at their mother, offering her a place in their embrace. She didn't refuse, allowing her two sons to envelop her into a tight embrace.
"We still miss him, Amad", Kili sighed, drying his face with his sleeve.
"He's still here, with all of us", Dis assured him. "Fili and (Y/n) have just given us something to remember him by".
"Reminders from other people ensure that those we lose are never gone from our hearts and minds", you spoke softly, offering your mother-in-law a smile. "We all learnt that from someone once". Dis returned your words with a tearful smile, whilst Thorin's eyes danced to his great-nephews Thrain and Frerin. An image of their forefathers came to his mind. Thrain, his own father and Frerin his younger brother. A soft smile splayed on the King's face, his crystalline gaze travelling the faces in the room. His family, all banded together, all present even in heart. Nothing could make the Mountain King happier.
___________________________________
Three years after your sons were born, Thorin abdicated his throne to his nephew and yourself. For the first time, there was a true Queen Under the Mountain by the new King's side. Fili had groomed you for the throne and you were still learning things with time, always taking half of his duties and sharing in the decision-making of the Kingdom. The people of Erebor had quickly adjusted to the concept of a Queen, welcoming you with open arms and hearts.
It had now been 35 years since you and Fili had assumed the throne of Erebor. 60 years since it had been reclaimed. Dragonsickness had not affected Fili as he'd feared it might have. The curse upon the Mountain and its throne was no more.
Balin had established a peaceful colony within Moria, abdicating his position as advisor; the position falling to Thorin. The former King of Erebor had remained at the throne's side, even now at 255 years of age. His hair had greyed, age now starting to appear on his seemingly still youthful face. He had surpassed the lifespan of a normal Dwarf, Bilbo also surpassing a Hobbit's normal lifespan, having written to you and Fili some months ago of his 111th Birthday and retirement to Rivendell. Your sons, Thorin III and Vili were now 38, both being groomed to be the heirs for the throne the way Fili and Kili had. Frerin and Thrain, older by 5 and 10 years, had become bodyguards to their cousins having been enlisted and trained by Dwalin himself. They would assume captaincy of the guard when the time was right.
"Amad, Adad!", Vili's familiar caramel mane ascended the steps of the throne room, trailed by his cousin Thrain. Vili had come to resemble Thorin II's younger brother, Frerin. However, his eyes were your own (e/c) ones and he had a strong beard, braided into a similar style to his father's.
"Vili", you both smiled mirthfully at your son's approach.
"What news do you bring, Dear One?", his great Uncle asked from his position by the throne.
"We have a guest", Thrain informed you with a spirit alike to his father's.
"Thorin is just bringing him in. Frerin is not long behind", Vili added with his father's trademark grin. It was something his older brother also shared with him.
"Very good", Fili acknowledged both boys, inclining his head in gratitude. Vili took to standing by your side, laying an affectionate palm on your shoulder when the welcomed guest finally ascended the stairwell. Both the former King and Fili lit up with familiarity as a man cloaked in white filed in, your son Thorin III and Frerin behind him. Alike to Kili, both boys had a lack of beard on their faces, lately blooming. They only had sandy blonde and auburn stubble, resembling Thorin II and Kili in their facial complexions. Your firstborn son had inherited the Durin crystalline gaze, reminding you of your husband almost completely, but both sons had the merriment and roundness of a Hobbit. The feet were still questionable.
Gandalf stood, mirth shimmering in his gaze at both your husband, yourself and Thorin. "Long has it been since I have seen you, Thorin son of Thrain and Fili son of Vili". His head dipped in a bow out of respect.
"Welcome back, Dear Friend", Fili grinned at your side. "You needn't bow to us". Warmly, Gandalf smiled at you both.
"I bid good tidings to the King and Queen of Erebor in these dark times. I have come not to reminisce, but to ask help of my old friends". Fili's gaze met your own, brows knitted in concern. You both had predicted these dark times, given that a quest to destroy the ring had begun many months ago. Gimli son of Gloin was among that fellowship.
"Anything", you encouraged the wizard with a nod, gratitude shining in his face.
"The enemy is marching upon Gondor. Sauron intends to destroy the world of men first. If nothing is done, I feel the freedom of this world will fall. Erebor, Rivendell, The Shire–". Your heart skipped a beat at the mention of your homeland. "–No one is safe".
"You ask our aid?", the former King spoke up from beside Fili.
"I do", the White Wizard sighed. "Rohan is marching to Pelennor Fields as we speak. They have only 6000 capable men and women. Not nearly enough to combat an army of 10,000 or more. We have Isildur's heir rallying the traitors within Gondor's mountains. I have risked much in coming here already. I need surity. Will you fight for the freedom of Middle-Earth?". The eyes in the room fell to you both. Fili shared a knowing look with you. The golden thread that tied your hearts was still burning strong to this day. Your husband would not make this decision without you. Nodding to each other, you both stood from your thrones.
"We will fight", Fili grinned, his eyes ablaze with a primal warrior's excitement.
"We were waiting for you to say that", Kili piped up, filing into the room with his wife beside him. The various members of the old company were also with him. Bofur, Bifur, Bombur. Nori and Dori. Dwalin as well. "Gandalf put on quite a show, rallying us the way he did". The wizard in turn, tried to seem innocent. You laughed,
"You knew we would say yes".
"I hadn't had a doubt in my mind, My Lady", he responded, an amused smile lighting up his features.
"And all of you intend to go to war?", Fili gaped, his brows raised in surprise.
"For our brother Ori", Dori huffed. "He would". Nori nodded in agreement, offering his brother a smile.
"My old bones still have some power left in 'em", Dwalin grunted, lifting his axe with no difficulty. He too offered something of a primal grin.
"Y' need only ask and we'll follow ye", Bofur added, inclining his head to his King.
"All of us", Thorin spoke up, stepping next to his nephew with a nod.
"Me as well". Fili turned to you, shockingly paler. You caressed his face, squeezing his hand. "With you in life and in death, remember?", you quoted your wedding vows. His eyes seemed to soften, a sigh leaving him.
"The people need their Queen—".
"And you need me".
"Y' won't get anywhere with her", Dwalin laughed. "And she's right". Fili passed half a glare to the older Dwarf.
"Will you not stay?", Fili murmured, worry clouding his shining gaze. Your head shook, your gaze falling upon your firstborn. His resemblance to Fili, Kili and Thorin was uncanny. Your son realized what you'd intended to say.
"Amad—".
"You can stay. Stay here with your brother and your cousins", you told him. The Durin glare had been inherited by him without any doubt, his brows furrowing deeply.
"I want to fight!", Thorin protested.
"Us as well", Vili added, both Frerin and Thrain nodding.
"I will not risk my line falling", Fili interluded. "You will all stay and defend our people here whilst your mother and I go".
"What if you don't come back?", Thorin snapped. "What then?". You saw your son's blue orbs glass over, your steps taking you to where he stood beside Gandalf.
"You worry too much, Sweetheart", you hushed him, cradling his face. "We have survived worse. Your father and Great Uncle certainly have".
"I'm just scared I won't see you again. I want to fight and prove myself, Amad—", Thorin choked, his head dipping in shame.
"Your time will come, Thorin. And you will understand when it is your time to be King", Fili sighed, lending a soft pat to his son's shoulder.
"You are much t' young ta be fighting in wars, Laddie. You will have your share of bloodshed when the time comes", Dwalin sought to console him.
"You will be in charge. You and Vili know what to do", you whispered, him nodding in return.
"We will protect them as we've always done", Frerin smiled his father's signature smile. "To that oath, I still hold".
"Aye. I do as well", Thrain added, laying a hand on the hilt of his daggers for emphasis.
"Go and all will be well here", Vili smiled on approach. "I promise". Your arms opened, welcoming Vili to the embrace you shared with his brother and father, laying a soft kiss all of their foreheads. Fili smiled, relishing in your soft touch even after all this time.
"We love you, boys", you cooed.
"We love you both too", Thorin sniffled, gripping onto his father affectionately.
"We're coming home, we swear by it", Fili murmured.
"You better", Vili threatened almost playfully. You broke apart, turning to your husband.
"Together?".
"Always", you answered.
"Like you had to even ask", Kili grinned, squeezing Tauriel's delicate hand.
"Would you all do me this honour in following me?", Fili asked.
"Yes", his Uncle answered, wrapping his arm around his firstborn nephew. "I would follow you both to my death. And I am undeniably proud of the both of you in all you have accomplished together".
"As am I", Dis proclaimed, entering the throne room, commanding respect with her presence alone. Thorin grinned at his younger sister whilst she approached all of you. "I will never cease being proud of you, my sons. And my daughters too". She spared a glance for you and Tauriel fondly. "As I will never stop worrying that you five and the others will not be coming home. I nearly lost you once, Thorin. And my sons", Dis sighed, grabbing her older brother's strong arm. "Ride to war, but by Mahal, if any of you don't return–". When everyone laughed lightheartedly at the threat similar to Vili's, her own face broke into a smile. Her eyes, alike to Fili's, were glinted with affection and worry. Thorin squeezed his sister's arm to console her; his eyes conveying a silent, gentle message of assurance. Dis conceded with her own silence, nodding before pressing a kiss to her brother's forehead.
"Now, let us ride to war". Thorin"s gaze affectionately crossed to the both of you, warming your soul. With newfound confidence, Fili turned to you for the orders.
"Kili, Dwalin. Get our soldiers ready for battle and any capable warriors in our city who wish to take up arms".
"As you wish, My Lady". Kili bowed to you with an excited smile, Dwalin letting out a roar of excitement.
Gandalf smiled. "We will await your arrival".
Every man and woman who could spare arms came along. Erebor's force was 3000 people, combined with the 1200 people from Dale and the Lake City who wished to fight as well. Thorin and his brother Vili remained behind as ordered with their cousins. Having been trained by Fili for combat in the many years you were married, you had full confidence stepping onto the battlefield. Not once, but twice.
Pelennor Fields was a devastating battle, won by brute force and numbers. If it weren't for the army of the dead, raised by Isuldur's heir, the battle perhaps would have been for naught. Your kin remained strong and hardy, mourning over the deaths of both Dwarves and men. Many soldiers of Rohan, Gondor and Erebor were injured. The King of Rohan had perished, his brave niece barely surviving. It was a battle hard won.
The battle of the Black Gate was no different.
Whatever was left of your combined armies, inclusive of the Hobbits you fondly discovered to be Merry and Pippin, marched upon the Dark Lands. Such an act by Men and Dwarves would go down into legends; a great battle of Kings.
With the battle raging on to keep the Dark Lord's eye from the Ringbearer, Frodo Baggins had finally managed to accomplish his goal, ending Sauron before he could ever truly return.
Doing a headcount, you were relieved to find your kin, your husband still alive after it all ended.
"We did it. Frodo did it", Fili huffed in exhaustion, Orc blood covering his face and body, dirt sticking to his sweat. Your lips pressed to his own, a sigh leaving your nostrils whilst your lips worked against his.
"Men lananubukhs menu", you uttered against his lips.
"I love you too", he chuckled, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
"Are you both alright?", Thorin called to you. Breaking from your husband's embrace, you marched to his Uncle. With no hesitation, you took the former King in your arms, burying your head into his matted shoulder. Fili grinned, relieved to see his Uncle alive. Thorin returned the embrace, nuzzling his head into your shoulder in return.
"We're fine", you breathed.
"You both fought well. Kili, Tauriel, the Company. We survived. Together".
"I'm glad", you sighed in relief, a smile splaying on your features.
"Excellent news", Fili laughed, leaving to begin his search for his younger brother in the crowd. You remained embraced with your father figure. Despite being middle-aged at your current 65 years, you still wanted his comfort.
"Are you alright?", he repeated, caressing your back.
"I'm fine", you assured him. "I'm just glad it's time to go home, back to Erebor". Thorin finally decided to slip from your arms, smiling at you with an elated proudness in his eyes. It radiated with such strength and affection that he had not the need to say he was proud. Instead, he wrapped a supportive arm over your shoulder, sighing wistfully with the wind,
"Yes, (Y/n). Let's go home".
The End. . .
