Alright, Ghoulies!
The results are in and we have enough people interested to have our two Hannibal Lecter art weeks this year!
FIRST WEEK: February 11th - 17th 2024
#lecterlove2024
Tumblr media
So the first week will be set for February 11th - 17th 2024 and theme will be based on the 7 Greek words for love:
Eros: romantic, passionate love
Philia: intimate, authentic friendship
Erotoropia or ludus: playful, flirtatious love
Storge: unconditional, familial love
Philautia: compassionate self-love
Pragma: committed, companionate love
Agápe: empathetic, universal love
You can write, draw, sculpt, 3d print whatever you want.
There is no wrong thing to create during this event; just place the appropriate tags in the post to allow people to avoid any triggering situations (layers to fear level gore, NSFW, and the like) or situations that may get HR on someone's case because they checked the tag on their lunch break (again NSFW).
You can create these in any order you like and although the theme is love, it doesn't HAVE to be based strictly on these 7 types. They're mainly there for suggestions incase of art block.
**Edit: You can write anything love related with any of the characters in the Lecter series. Be them from the Movies, Tv series, or the book series.
The tag for this week will be #lecterlove2024
SECOND WEEK: Oct 27th - Nov 2nd
#horrorlecter2024
Tumblr media
The second week will be set for October 27th - November 2nd and the theme will be based on different horror subgenres:
1. Body horror
2. Gothic Horror
3. Supernatural Horror
4. Psychological Horror
5. Found Footage Horror
6. Lovecraftian Horror
7. Survival Horror
Again, you can write, draw, sculpt, 3d print whatever you want.
There is no wrong thing to create with this event; just place the appropriate tags in the post to allow people to avoid any triggering situations (layers to fear level gore, NSFW, and the like) or situations that may get HR on someone's case because they checked the tag on their lunch break (again NSFW).
You can create anything horror related you like. The list I provided is mainly there for suggestions incase of art block.
**Edit: You can write anything horror related with any of the characters in the Lecter series. Be them from the Movies, Tv series, or the book series.
The tag for this week will be #horrorlecter2024
Final remarks,
If you complete the work before the designated week starts and want to share, please do! We'd love to see what you have!
Once the week is over, I'll create a master list containing links to that week's work and who created it.
Also, I hope to make this an annual event so that all members of the Hannibal Lector fandom can have something fun to look forward to each year.
That's all for now, ghoulies! Have fun creating!

Considering Ray Liotta’s tragic death, I want to take a moment to appreciate just how good he was as Paul Krendler in the 2001 film Hannibal.
Tumblr media
This is easily my favourite portrayal of Krendler. Ray got the snark, the sleaze, and just the overall pathetic nature of Paul Krendler down to a T. That sounds like such a backhanded compliment, but this is a good thing. It’s easy to play a douchebag character. But it takes a great actor to play a douchebag character you love to hate. One that you still enjoy watching. (Also that dinner scene is still hilarious to watch)
He’s one of my favourite parts of this film, and in my opinion one of the most underrated casting choices in the Hannibal franchise.
Rest in Peace, Ray Liotta.

My favorite ‘Hannibal’ lines from the original script that didn’t make it in the film
1: Crawford: (to Clarice) “He likes you, Starling. Seven years gone, not a trace, and he writes to you. You know what that means.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 81)
2: Crawford: (to Clarice) “The stalker who says he likes you is far more dangerous than the one who says he wants to kill you.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 81)
3: Hannibal: (to Clarice) “Will you stay with me in my prison cell? Hmmm? I suppose it wouldn’t be that much worse than yours.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 98)
4: Hannibal (to Clarice): “Don’t you want to harm those who have forced you to consider it? I know you never would, but wouldn’t you like to? Wouldn’t it feel good? It’s all right to admit it. It’s perfectly natural. To want to taste the enemy.” (2000 Draft Revision, Pg. 99)
5: Hannibal: (to Paul Krendler) “I assure you, though, you’ll love the second course, that is if I can serve it before Clarice bashes my head in.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 115)
6: Hannibal: (to Clarice) “No. I think a new life lies before you. A better life. With me? Hmmm, there’s a thought.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 117)
7: Hannibal: (to Clarice) “I came halfway around the world just to watch you run in the woods. Run with me, Clarice.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 117)
8: Hannibal: (to Clarice) “That’s my girl. If you hadn’t tried, I would have killed you… But don’t try again…I mean it.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 119)
9: Hannibal: (to Clarice) “Oh, Clarice, you are the honey in the lion. In times to come, whenever you see yourself naked, whenever you see the scar- the quality of the stitching - you’ll remember this moment - and your lips will burn.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 119)
10: Crawford: (to Clarice regarding her scar) “You don’t need to hide it. Your doctor did a nice job. You can hardly see it-.” (2000 Draft Revision, pg. 120)

my friend: hey, so how come Hannibal likes Clarice so much?
my other friend: i don't know probably because-
me:
*AHEM* You see, Hannibal respects Clarice because she is different from all of the money-hungry, insatiable male police officers who are after glory- Who get a rise out of saying they spoke to the great Hannibal Lecter while not being actually brave enough to converse with him authentically. They think of him as less than human, and only care about advancement. Because of this, Hannibal has come to know the FBI as a corrupt field full of corrupt officers, therefore he feels no need to give them any respect since they can't even look him in the eye. But then Clarice comes along. Instantly, she gives him respect, calling him "Doctor Lecter," being "courteous and receptive to courtesy". Hannibal is surprised she does not back down, especially since she is a woman in a very masculine career, something he already admires her for. He expects that, after he insults her, she will not come back, just like all the other cops. But she does come back, in the pouring rain, and suddenly his opinion of her soars. Nobody has ever exuded such passion for saving these victims like Clarice before. He offers her his towel, likely one of his only possessions, because he sees her goodness, her intelligence, her drive. He revels in her remarkable frankness and honesty, two things he values very highly. In the very last scene, in Memphis, is when he is truly moved by her person. In the Memphis scene, is when he truly becomes not only interested in her, but admires her deeply. Her emotional retelling of her childhood trauma about saving the lambs is what allows him to understand the goodness of her- She is truly a selfless, caring person in a world so cold and unforgiving. He changes him, and makes him believe in the goodness of humanity. THAT is what he respects about her the most, above her intelligence and respect: That she has a good heart. These lambs are the girls in a metaphorical sense, which is why he asks if saving Catherine will "make the lambs stop screaming." In the last scene, when he says goodbye to her, you can see tears welling up in his eyes. He cries because he sees her goodness, and knows therefore that she will never make it in the corrupt world of the FBI because of her refusal to stoop to unethical means in order to achieve power. This is proven true in the sequels, when Clarice’s career is tarnished because she rejects a sexual advancement made to her by her boss- Paul Krendler. Krendler makes sure after this she always gets the worst assignments and never advances because she refuses to sleep with him. He also believes Starling “robbed him” of the glory of catching Buffalo bill and is jealous that a woman, and a rookie at that, beat him to the punch. In that moment in Memphis, it’s as if Hannibal is able to see into the future, and predict her self-destruction at the hands of the FBI. He cries because he believes this is the last time he will ever see her again. He cries because he knows she is too good for the FBI, and for the patriarchal, corrupt system, yet he knows she will always blame herself for her imminent failure. (Clarice wanted to save Catherine Martin, but the FBI wanted to catch Buffalo Bill.) Her purity is a tragedy in a world so vile. For me, these two quotes from the screenwriter and director put all the underlying messages and dynamic rapport of TSOTL into an fascinating perspective:
Tumblr media
“These are two extraordinarily gifted thinkers engaged in a tremendously important conversation. At last, a mind came into his field that was worthy of verbal and mental intercourse. I don’t know that sex has any place in any of this. I mean, yes he’s a man and yes she’s a woman; he’s very handsome and she’s very beautiful, but so what? These are minds at work here. There’s an eroticism in the thought process that transcends any kind of physical eroticism that might be between the two.” - Jonathan Demme (Director)
Tumblr media
“The scenes between Lecter and Clarice are basically seduction scenes. They play, oddly enough, as if they were lovers. They only touch one time in the entire movie, in their last scene when he says goodbye to her- when as he hands her back her notes, he touches her finger. And it's almost a shock to the audience, when they touch. But these scenes, you would approach almost as if you were writing a sort of courtship between two lovers." - Ted Tally, Screenwriter.”

Last Song:
Three ships: Clannibal (SOTL; fxm), Braime (GOT; fxm), Malec (SHADOW HUNTERS; mxm)
Favourite color: earth tones, emerald green, black (which is actually not a real colour, but still) Can't decide on one
Currently consuming: Piña Colada liqueur, more than is good for me + dark chocolate with grapes
First ship: Clannibal (this ship is not toxic, it's just different)
Last movie: "I know what you did last summer"
Currently working on: A very disturbing fanfic of Clarice and Hannibal taking revenge on bastard Paul Krendler. Don’t read if you can't swallow more than you can chew. As a writer who enjoys sending characters through hell and back, it was quite pleasing to think of that scenario.
Tagging (only if you want to, obviously): @marias-wonderland @ladylshardlakesworld @whoeveniswren

Has anyone noticed that author Thomas Harris doesn't actually describe Clarice Starling's appearance? What the reader imagines she is like comes from other characters' comments. Almost all of them rated her from beautiful to more beautiful :^) sounds like God's masterpiece which makes sense since Clarice Starling is called the angel of death in the book
Hannibal Lecter
Although Hannibal Lecter criticized Clarice for being a country girl, he also said that her beauty started very early and that's why guys came to her so quickly. That's true because later we also see how crazy Hannibal is about Clarice's beauty :)). Hannibal is probably the one who compliments Clarice's beauty the most and is so fascinated by her that he gets into Clarice's car just to inhale her scent and wants to taste it.
Jack Crawford and John Brigham
With Jack, I don't remember if he ever complimented Clarice on being beautiful, but their relationship was like that of teacher and student and like father and daughter. John clearly had feelings for Clarice but the confession failed. I don't remember if he complimented Clarice on her beauty or not, but she always considered John a trustworthy partner. Clarice sees both as her mentors and they treat each other with respect and loyalty
Barney and Margot
Barney is probably the one who agrees with Hannibal the most about Clarice's beauty and he also compliments her on how beautiful she is. Margot said that Clarice always looks serious and aloof because she is always flirted with by men. Even though it was just their first meeting, Margot also considered Clarice to be quite beautiful
Chilton and Paul Krendler
Both of these guys looked at Clarice as a target to be conquered, her beauty was what made the two guys act like animals, seeing her as an easy prey to attack. No one can like Chilton, the first time he met Clarice he did not hesitate to flirt with her. Paul is a more perverted guy who always tries to sleep with Clarice but when she doesn't agree, he sabotages Clarice's career for many years :). If I encountered these two guys in real life, I'd be surprised if I didn't immediately shoot them dead
If I missed anyone, please comment to me ^^

NBC Hannibal teased us so hard with the brain eating. Gideon... Mason... Sogliato... Will... fucking Kade Purnell being an anagram for Paul Krendler. Why didn't a single person get to eat a single brain in three goddamn seasons of a show called Hannibal. It's not fair.

Years after his escape, posing as scholarly Dr. Fell, curator of a grand family's palazzo, Hannibal lives the good life in Florence, playing lovely tunes by serial killer/composer Henry VIII and killing hardly anyone himself. Clarice is unluckier: in the novel's action-film-like opening scene, she survives an FBI shootout gone wrong, and her nemesis, Paul Krendler, makes her the fall guy. Clarice is suspended, so, unfortunately, the first cop who stumbles on Hannibal is an Italian named Pazzi, who takes after his ancestors, greedy betrayers depicted in Dante's Inferno. Pazzi is on the take from a character as scary as Hannibal: Mason Verger. When Verger was a young man busted for raping children, his vast wealth saved him from jail. All he needed was psychotherapy--with Dr. Lecter. Thanks to the treatment, Verger is now on a respirator, paralyzed except for one crablike hand, watching his enormous, brutal moray eel swim figure eights and devour fish. His obsession is to feed Lecter to some other brutal pets.

If you ask me, the real villain in Red Dragon was Francis's grandmother. Not that I'm excusing his actions, of course, but nobody should treat a child that way, especially just for wetting the bed.
Honestly, between Francis' grandmother, Mason Verger, and FBI agents like Paul Krendler, is it any wonder most of us see Hannibal as the comforting/safe one?😂
