In 1939, a time traveler from an undisclosed time in the 20th Century travelled back to Berlin to try and assassinate Adolf Hitler and prevent World War II. He ran out of time before he could accomplish his goal and history continued on its natural course. ("No Time Like the Past", The Twilight Zone, TV)

Finally! The last contribution of the HPHM Cardverse AU made by @ariparri
This contribution is however rushed and a bit confusing but I did my best xD
Anyways, meet the Runaway Candidate...
𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐛 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲
Tumblr media
Jacob Bennett Avery is the first son of Bruce and Mabel Avery. He was born as the candidate for being the next King of Diamonds. As Jacob Bennett grew up, he spent all his time being under Bruce's care. Bruce would often force him to study both etiquette, self defense and academics, any things that's needed for a King. Jacob Bennett would sometimes sneak out of his study room to hangout with his younger siblings. He is very fascinated in treasure hunting as he always reads books related to it as a form of coping mechanism.
When the day of his coming of age almost arrived, Jacob Bennett planned his escape and prepared the things he needed for his freedom. He also wrote a letter to his family, a letter filled with his true feelings, his realization of him not being suitable as the King of Diamonds and an apology for his mother and siblings for running away from home and swore he would never get back to the Avery Manor as it is his fate. His escape made his family devastated, Bruce and Mabel had an argument and eventually got into a divorce. The people in Diamond Empire knew about his escape and earned the title; "The Runaway Candidate". This embarrassed Bruce and decided to use his second son Malachi as Jacob Bennett's replacement.
Jacob Bennett didn't go too far during his escape. He stayed in the Diamond Empire as he lived in the streets. He became an anonymous bandit, stealing everything he finds interesting (mainly food and treasures) and would sometimes be seen leaping through the rooftops of everyone's houses and was feared by people. He met Olivia Green during one of his "hunting season" in which he stole the gal's prized possession but he immediately got confronted by her (mainly just her smacking him with her satchel or something). He returned the object he stole from her and she left with an angry look on her face. The interaction made Jacob fall in love with her. This made Jacob watch her secretly but still made Olivia notice his presence. The activity continued till Olivia decided to confront him, again. They became friends after a lot of confrontations and hangouts.
A year later, Jacob heard a rumor from the vendors that his mother and sisters went to the Country of Spades after divorcing his father. This made Jacob plan to travel towards the Country of Spades to see them. When he arrived, he got into trouble right away after he stole something that was meant for Patricia Rakepick, the former Ace of Spades and the current ruler during that time. He was brought to Rakepick and she decided that Jacob would be put to prison for both stealing and offending the queen. He stayed in prison for months and met his sister Maya who got dragged by the knights towards her cell. The two escaped together with the help of the Escape Artist (Jacob Cromwell by @carewyncromwell sorry for tagging you :'D). Jacob, Maya and their sister Marigold escaped from the Country of Spades and went back to Diamond Empire. Upon his return, he was confronted by his brother and the current King of Diamonds, Malachi and the siblings reunited.

𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐛 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐭:
• Just like his siblings, Jacob is kind, friendly, charming and intelligent. He can also be foolish and impatient.
• Jacob became a traveling treasure hunter for the Diamond Empire and also became a knight of the Empire, not a high ranking knight. He was offered by Malachi to be the Duke of Avery Manor but he refused.
• He's shy around women. When confronted by Olivia he would just be quiet. But after he and the gal became friends, he felt comfortable interacting with her.
• He is still called as the "Runaway Candidate" not by the people in the Diamond Empire, but also from the people in other regions.
• He is also a strategic person like his brother Malachi.
• He likes giving gifts especially to Olivia. He would give her red and yellow roses as a sign of love and friendship. He also accept (and assumes) that the gal didn't like him back but all his focus is their closeness as she was his very first friend aside his siblings.
• He's currently staying at the Joker's domain for a treasure hunt.
━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━
I just realized that his description is very long that the other contributions haha.
Finally done with my contributions! I could finally rest and maybe start some ideas for this au related to my children :))

Six Plays by Alan Bennett: Doris and Doreen (1.2, LWT, 1978)
"I still wonder about Mrs. Henstridge. She did have a daughter, doesn't she? She was in an accident. Or did she get married? I know the hat came round."
"They wouldn't send the hat round for a daughter, her daughter never worked here."
"They send the hat round for famine victims, and they don't work here."
"They send the hat round for all sorts these days. I hope they send the hat round for me when my time comes. If it isn't a wedding, it's a famine. Earthquakes practically twice a week these days. Never stops. Ethiopia, what have we got to do with Ethiopia?"
"I just have this feeling I chipped in for a spread."
#doris and doreen#six plays by alan bennett#alan bennett#single play#1978#lwt#classic tv#stephen frears#prunella scales#patricia routledge#pete postlethwaite#joan sanderson#george fenton#tony wharmby#this second play in the series is much more traditionally theatrical than the first; essentially a two hander confined to a single studio#set‚ the action concerns the titular characters played by Scales and Routledge‚ mid level filing clerks in an unspecified national company‚#who spend their days reading newspapers and making passive aggressive digs at one another rather than work on the forms they so abhor#it's a character piece‚ with sparkling dialogue brought beautifully to life by two actors that Bennett would work with on stage and screen#repeatedly (Routledge in particular became a familiar collaborator and was an intrinsic part of what made Talking Heads so successful)#Doris is a vaguely bitter single woman who cares for an ailing mother while Doreen is a comic grotesque‚ a vapid married woman who chatters#incessantly about forced rhubarb and the lives and loves of colleagues she barely knows; for all that‚ the two are very similar in some#aspects of disposition‚ particularly in their middle class snobbery and their disinterested attitude to their work. the looming spectre of#a potential interloper in the form of a new boss (part of dreaded staff shake ups) is treated with near gothic levels of horror and#paranoia (with the film really leaning into those visuals for the rather hysteria tinged ending). it's a note of elevated style that's both#clever and quite witty but i still think this works best when it's quietly deconstructing these two frustrated characters as inflated#clerks with delusions of importance. endlessly tripping off long monologues about particular paperwork or obsolete filing systems#or sniping among themselves about best practices and working to rule; underneath the breezy comedy there's very little sympathy or#compassion in Bennett's piece (even the late Pete Postlethwaite's union minded ancillary worker is depicted as a crude bore and a hypocrite#undeniably a funny play and as sharply written as any of the playwrights works‚ but it lacks the heart that furnishes his best scripts#also the score is weirdly obtrusive whenever it kicks in‚ often playing over lines of dialogue as tho poorly mixed in

No matter how logical someone’s thoughts are, panic turns even the most prepared into a mess. Thoughts get scrambled, planning goes awry and primal fear takes over. Most people have things that set off this reaction and take active steps to avoid situations that might induce that level of terror. Unfortunately for me, my trigger kind of comes with the job.
‘Lilia,’ Mac said, drugged voice bordering on reasonable and snapping my spiralling thoughts away from the attempts to make sense of it all. Still, I tugged fruitlessly at the handcuffs as if it might suddenly change my situation.
My arms ached. While Mac was cuffed to a chair, IV taped into his arm, my arms were over my head. I could hear the long length of chain rattling like something out of a pirate movie. There wasn’t enough give to get to Mac, though. If I tried, I’d probably be a hair’s breadth away. Another little torture.
‘Breathe.’ Ewan’s soft voice, a memory of long attempts at learning escapology tricks, came to me. Right now, however, all his lessons evaporated. Fear, the fear of being caught, of being helpless, squashed any logical reasoning.
‘Lilia, it’s all right.’
‘How?’ I snapped, chest heaving as I focused on Mac. His head lolled back against the chair. Who knew what was being pumped into his system and there was nothing I could do about it. ‘How?’ I repeated, but this time my voice was little more than a desperate whine.
‘Because it’s us,’ he reasoned, voice almost normal. It was as if the drugs weren’t affecting him at all. As if everything was –
I shook my head, a sense of hopelessness bloomed inside my chest. My gaze drifted up to the chains holding me in place. Trapped. We were trapped and powerless and –
‘You’re shuffling cards,’ Mac said, pulling my gaze his way.
‘No, I’m not,’ I said, completely missing the point by the expression on his face.
‘Think about the sound,’ he continued. ‘The feeling.’
Forcing myself to swallow my panic, I tried to follow his lead. I imaged shuffling, the snickering sound of cardboard against cardboard. The constant rhythm that changed as I waterfalled the cards.
‘Dislocate or pick, your choice, Lil.’
‘Yeah, let’s go with picking you psycho.’
‘I need a clip,’ I said, trying to cling to the calm place, and the memories of Ewan. Escapology was his game, his attempts at bettering me in the dramatic arts of magic.
‘Your bun?’ questioned Mac, voice slightly dazed again.
I nodded, moved to stand on tiptoes. It was difficult, manoeuvring to get a clip, but not impossible. Once freed, it was a case of not fumbling, of getting the mechanism…
The cuff fell away and in an instant my arms were down. Every fibre of my being wanted to get rid of the metal from my wrists, the feeling of it there was making me sick, reminding me of the situation and threatening to bury me under the fear again. But Mac needed help, so I pushed the desire away.
Despite knowing he could do it, I unhooked the IV with one hand and picked with the other. It was stupid, but once both hands could work on the lock it was easier and he was freed in a couple of seconds.
‘Five minutes,’ came Patricia’s voice from over the intercom once Mac’s wrists were free.
I let out a sigh.
‘Pause,’ Mac said, voice alert and his attention on me. It was unlike him to break the character of the training. Concern pinched his brow, but by the little red light going off in the corner of the room, I knew Patricia had obliged. After all, today was about testing me, not putting him through his paces.
‘Are you all right?’
‘Sure,’ I said, trying to sound causal. I could hear the waver to my voice though, the fear that still clung to me. The longer we paused for, the longer the cold metal would bite into my wrist.
‘Lilia,’ he said, but I shook my head before he could go any further.
‘Honestly, I’ll survive. Can we finish?’
Mac surveyed me for a moment, probably trying to read the lie. He might’ve been good, but he’d not been taught about human psychology, about the nuances of people, by Patrick Jane. I had. I knew how to school my features into something of a determined mask, to push aside the fear for the moment now that it wasn’t completely all encompassing. I knew it was something I’d have to learn to manage eventually, but at the moment all I wanted was to be out of the training room.
After a second, he nodded and knocked on the wall. The light in the corner flared red again and he settled back into the mockery of being drugged.
Sometimes I hated these training sessions, but hopefully it would all be over soon. Just one more lock stood in our way, and then I could relax.
