(The Washington Post)
For those who don't know, the US Supreme Court just ruled that states are allowed to enforce trans healthcare for minors. Undoubtedly, this will trigger a wave of other states that either hope to pass or have already passed policies to do the same. This is going to kill children, and harm more in long-lasting ways.
So, how can you help?
FUCKING VOTE. I don't care if you don't like Biden, he's not the only one on the ballot. Vote representatives into your city council who will turn our city into a sanctuary city. Vote for governors and state reps who will, even if they don't pass new protections, oppose bans being pushed through. Chsllenge and kick out conservative incumbents who are banking on their races being obscure enough for people to not vote in.
Anyone telling you voting is useless is either lying to you or grossly uninformed and think saying this is the edgy new take that will make them look hip and informed. Yes, the system is broken. But short of burning the whole thing to the ground (which personally I'm not a fan of as I quite enjoy having like. Roads and the FDA) what we can do is to change it for the better, by starting with the local races and working our way up.

Argentina has THE BEST public University of the entire south american region. Our current disaster of a president decided to reduce funding on said University. Now we don't know if all the colleges will be able to stay open after this first semester.
The college of Medicine can only remain open this semester by closing down lifts (it has 16+ floors), turning off any kind of heating (we're entering winter season) and turning off most artificial lights.
Students have to walk in semi-darkness to get to their classrooms. Access to classrooms is already limited because of the lifts being closed down and only people in wheelchairs will be allowed to use them. If you have any other kind of disability, well, tough luck.
And this is just the college of Medicine. This is just the tip of the iceberg, the first bit of news in regards to our University that is surfacing after this disgrace of a president declared war on intellectuals and the arts.
Yet you have fanatics consumed by hatred who say this is okay. They celebrate poverty, but they also punish it. If you're poor, you don't deserve education. If you're poor, you don't deserve access to the arts. If you're poor, you don't deserve anything. Your whole life should be dedicated to working so that maybe one day you will stop being poor. You won't ever stop being poor because the system is rigged against you, but you should sacrifice your whole life to try and not be poor anyway.
These fanatics celebrate suffering, not realizing they're screwing themselves up, too.
I'm sad for my own country. I want to say that I want to leave. But even when everything is being systematically broken down and destroyed, I want to stay. There IS beauty here. There IS hope.
But first and foremost:
Con la UBA ayer, hoy, y siempre.

People on here spreading propaganda that the Iranian government is good...stop.
You are hurting Iranians, Jews, Muslims, Arabs, and more.
The Iranian government does not give a fuck about Palestine. All they are interested in is spreading their power and influence across the Middle East. They even hurled missiles at Al-Aqsa Mosque, which potentially could have destroyed or damaged it if the Iron Dome didn't exist. The only seriously injured victim in Israel was a 7 year old Muslim Bedouin girl. Many Arab countries understand how dangerous the Iranian government is and intercepted some of their missiles.
Iranians have been screaming at the top of their lungs that they don't want war and they are tortured and murdered by their government, but your desire to view the Middle East as a sports match makes you want to root for anyone who is against Israel. The Iranian government literally hosted a Holocaust denial convention in 2006 which included David Duke, one of the former leaders of the KKK. They are not against the Israeli government for the right reasons, but for antisemitic ones. The growing antisemitism in Iran due to their rule drove out thousands of Iranian Jews, many whose only option was to move to Israel.
Please do research before spewing ignorant bullshit that harms everyone. There is no shame in admitting you were misinformed. Peoples' lives are worth more than your bruised ego.

You've been inactive for a while. I hope you're okay
Hi, I hope I didn't cause too much worry with my inactivity. I am alive, but I don't think I'll be posting on tumblr anymore.
This blog began with the intention of making the ukrainian perspective on war in Ukraine visible for the foreign audience, and with most of the interaction coming from other Ukrainians, I feel like I'm in an echo chamber.
Not to dissmiss the foreigners who still care - rest assured, your support is seen, appreciated and much needed.
But the majority of people on this website are actively hostile, condescending and dissmissive towards Ukrainians, and my time is better spent elsewhere than arguing with privileged teenagers who think the peak tragedy of the war in Ukraine is that "russian culture is being destroyed" (reality check: russian artists are thriving in Europe on foreign grants, while ukrainian artists and art are being destroyed every day, together with everything we have).
If anyone still cares, please donate to any trustworthy initiative (if you don't know any, United24, BackAndAlive, Serhiy Prytula Foundation and Hospitaliers are always sound choices). The word "desperate" fails to describe the atmosphere right now. We feel like we are left to die.

The thing about protests is that they need to have a goal. A strike without a goal is just skipping work, a demonstration without a goal is just a festival, a hunger strike without a goal is just an eating disorder.
Before you do a protest ask: what are your demands, how likely are those demands to be met by this particular form of protest, would it be more effective to choose a different form of protest to try to get these particular demands met, and what leverage do I have over the people demanding things from me?

AHEAD OF THE United Nations Security Council action to consider the Palestinian Authority’s application to become a full member of the international body, the United States is lobbying nations to reject such membership, hoping to avoid an overt “veto” by Washington. The lobbying effort, revealed in copies of unclassified State Department cables obtained by The Intercept, is at odds with the Biden administration’s pledge to fully support a two-state solution.
The diplomatic cables detail pressure being applied to members of the Security Council, including Malta, the rotating president of the council this month. Ecuador in particular is being asked to lobby Malta and other nations, including France, to oppose U.N. recognition. The State Department’s justification is that normalizing relations between Israel and Arab states is the fastest and most effective way to achieve an enduring and productive statehood.
While clarifying that President Joe Biden has worked vigorously to support “Palestinian aspirations for statehood” within the context “of a comprehensive peace that would resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” a diplomatic cable dated April 12 details U.S. talking points against a U.N. vote for Palestinian statehood. The cable says that Security Council members must be persuaded to reject any proposal for Palestinian statehood — and thereby its recognition as a sovereign nation — before the council’s open debate on the Middle East, scheduled for April 18.
“It remains the U.S. view that the most expeditious path toward a political horizon for the Palestinian people is in the context of a normalization agreement between Israel and its neighbors,” the cable reads. “We believe this approach can tangibly advance Palestinian goals in a meaningful and enduring way.”
“We therefore urge you not to support any potential Security Council resolution recommending the admission of ‘Palestine’ as a U.N. member state, should such a resolution be presented to the Security Council for a decision in the coming days and weeks.”
