It's almost strange seeing Fai use his magic after all this time, and I can’t even enjoy it knowing what it cost
But oh how the spell he casts here also looks like an eye as it takes them into Evil Wolverine’s Evil Branding Department HQ
Like they're all being carried by the exact piece of Syaoran that he left behind (Fai's Eye) for them to use
Tumblr media
Ohoho
Ok despite everything I do like Evil Wolverine looking completely different to normal. Evil Wolverine bleeding? Evil Wolverine almost looking scared as they show up?
WONDERFUL. Lovely sight. 10/10, only improved by Kurogane and Lava Lamp leaping into the air to attack him instantly.

ok so im reading wolverine volume 2 to try to get some context for whatever the fucks going on in uncanny. at somepoint, sabretooth starts hunting wolverine more frequently, saying hes his father(which turns out not to be true, dont worry lol). hes been given this belief and nobody can figure out why.
after being given hallucinogenic poison, sabretooth starts to break free from the need to kill and logan starts to remember something…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
at first i thought he was trying to say ‘papa’ or something, but then its revealed he was trying to say ‘partner’(uglyyyyyy panel omg)
Tumblr media
im not sure if logan remembers them being partners at this point, but he definitely does later. but the thorazine? not ever brought up again(as far as i saw, maybe it is. its hard to find what comics come next in canon since its not contained in a single series, theyre all over the place).
Tumblr media
anyway, he then gets xavier and jean to look into his brain, and he finds some memories that dont make sense. (shout out to this bit where creed straight up wants to take him out for a bday date)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(also shout out to whoever put this speech bubble below them LMAO)
logan then goes to the facility in weapon x where the memories were fabricated. in the animated series sabretooth goes too, but i guess he wouldnt need to in the comics since its implied he already has. i think sabretooth found out about it somehow, got captured, and given the new memory of being logans father. this makes sense since after the hallucination thing sobering him up, he drops that belief.
my theory though is that sabretooth got a lot more fucked up by weapon x than logan. i mean, im pretty sure the false memories were all given after they worked together, and they dont seem to have any other reason(outside of using trauma to activate their need to kill) than to make them all want to suddenly turn against eachother. and i think sabretooth specifically was a failsave for if logan ever escaped, to go seek out and kill him.
both big memories(the one with them being partners in suits and the one where silverfox was killed) were based around logans birthday. so thats probably the reason behind sabretooth seeking him out on his birthday every year, being mixed with the ingrained need to kill him, just based on the little amounts of context he has. BUT the reason for him angering logan? for bringing out the animal? for constantly bringing up silverfox? hes trying to get logan to remember. hes trying to help break him from the memory blocks.
and hes trying to break free from his own programming. and its clear that at somepoint, he did. and he just wants logan to be free from it too.
the memory blocks are tied to logans animal side, but even later on when his animal side is finally released by sabretooth, it didnt really do anything for his memory. because at that point logan already remembers, while sabretooth is still under control of it. though, it is mentioned that something in sabretooths brain is unlocked from wolverine stabbing a claw through it? like he became more in control. that his need to kill is now his own choice. so maybe at that point he was just trying to get him to do that(also it kinda sucks that the canon gets passed around to different authors who will just ignore or get rid of established lore, so none of it really sticks for very long and the characters motives keep changing).
its weird though how logan remembers, yet still keeps trying to fight him. he knows its all fake, but still keeps the same opinion….basically sabretooths stuck with a partner whos forced by the narrative to never like him no matter what he does, while being equally doomed by the narrative to never be able to change. no matter how many times they break the spell, as long as the plot keeps going, theyll always be reset to their basic character traits. #peak romantic tragedy.

I cannot..... even begin... to describe just how much of a total & complete sucker I am... for the trope where an older, closed off, broken down man who has become a rugged, disillusioned shell of who they once were due to significant past trauma that is still haunting him, unexpectedly has his soul renewed by needing to protect a small, spunky child that rekindles his ability to care & love & whom they will eventually either somewhat or entirely adopt as their own.

Now I'm thinking about a His Dark Materials x Stranger Things AU and the similarities are just enough for it to make a lot of sense but both stories have so much material (pun intended) in them that I don't even know where to start, other than with the fact that the scientists and Brenner and everyone is the Magisterium, Will is taken by the Gobblers/the General Oblation Board, El is probably from Will's World (Will Parry's world, not to be confused with Will Byers - there are just too many Wills here), and she doesn't have a visible dæmon. Barb is a bit too old to be taken by the Gobblers - she probably got caught finding information she shouldn't know and they got rid of her. I feel like the Byers would be gyptians, too, living in a gyptian boat. Henry Creel was probably the one to first open a gate between world by ripping himself apart from his own dæmon, and that's part of how he kills people - severing from their dæmons, killing them, opening a gate. The parallels are just too strong!
But I wouldn't set it in Europe like the original books... I would set it in North America, in their canon location.
The Globetrotter's Map shows that the United States does not exist in this world - instead you get New Denmark, Texas, and Beringia (Alaska), bordering Hispania Nova to the south and New France to the north. That would make them New Danish, right? And maybe the only General Oblation Board facility is in Svalbard and they need to go all the way across New France and Greenland to get there, or maybe this time around there's a facility in Beringia, or simply in the New French far north. Somewhere far away, hopefully where you can see the northern lights. I like that idea, to keep it more North America inspired.
Tumblr media
After whatever experiments they perform on Will, he can separate from his dæmon like a witch, but it also kind of feels like his dæmon can cross worlds without need for a portal, and this happens unexpectedly and without them being able to control it. El, of course, is considered an aberration since she does not have a dæmon, but the party pretty quickly figures that she does - it's just "inside of her".
Jonathan is maybe a photographer who got his hands on some special equipment to photograph dust - something he shouldn't be allowed to own. Steve is on his way to joining the Magisterium's law enforcement arm, though he quickly realizes how horrible the Magisterium really is. Jason is the one who stays there and continues to rise through the ranks. Eddie is the town heretic who just wants to enjoy his fantasy books - banned by the Magisterium for promoting subversive ideas about God, or just not having God be present, or whatever. He has a small secret fantasy reading club where he and the boys like to enjoy forbidden literature about dragons and knights and play board games based on them. The town does not like it. El can communicate directly with Dust. She's like a human alethiometer. Robin is New Denmark's most dangerous polyglot who just accidentally intercepted some weird messages on the radio in multiple different languages about missing children in Beringia. Hopper used to work for the Magisterium as a law enforcer until his daughter mysteriously disappeared and they refused to give him an answer. Max is just there to punch God in the face.
It's almost 6 am and I haven't had any sleep so idk if this makes sense... but it makes sense in my little heart

hey what are your wolverine comic recs? i read saudade on your recommendation and LOVED IT, got anymore like that? (i've read a lot of wolvie comics but basically just spots here and there, so dw about reccing something i've probably read but i'd love some of the more obscure stuff like saudade and worst there is)
YOUVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!!
Wolverine/Hulk 2002 is a glorious, surreal and fun little miniseries involving a little girl, the hulk, and Logan being. Well. Logan.
Wolverine: Netsuke explores the concept of loss as Logan deals with mariko's death. It's highly surreal and can be difficult to follow at times bc of the shifting narrative but it's sweet as hell if you can get thru it
Wolverine: Killing explores Logan's relationship with his lack of control
Wolverine: inner fury is a comic illustrated by the BRILLIANT bill sienkiewicz and follows a batshit little body horror plot as Logan searches for the cure to a virus that gives him insane adamantium spikes across his body
If you haven't already read the wolverine solo comics from 1982 or wolverine 2003 [issues 1-6 and issue 12] i HIGHLY suggest reading them bc theyre fantastic

the snikt family infinity comic was kind of lame but mostly cute and sweet and interesting bc it really seems like they’re rebranding the wolverines as a family unit without doing a lot of the work to actually get them there like just skipping over any of the complicated mess and being like well they moved past that! off page sorry but they’re chill now

OHO
LAVA LAMP TIGHTLY BOUND BY THE RED STRING OF FATE, SO HARD THAT IT'S CHOKING HIM?
LAVA LAMP TRAPPED IN A HELL HE THINKS IS OF HIS OWN MAKING?
LAVA LAMP IN A PRISON FORMED FROM POSITIVE INTENTIONS AND A WELL MEANING WISH?
WHEN GOOD IMAGERY GOES BAD???
Lava Lamp so tightly tied by fate that it's captured him from every angle, ever new connection he forms another piece of the prison. And it's all something he blames himself for, so he can't even be mad about it, only desperate as he tries to save the Sakura at the other end of the strings, even if it leaves him tied here. (which it does)
When all along it was Evil Wolverine behind the scenes setting up each of these cords to snag Lava lamp and suffocate him until he has no choice but to take the wish he offers him.
It’s such a powerful image - him trapped here in the quintessential Tsubasa Syaoran outfit, surrounded by the darkness, seemingly trapped by fate - but the single voice calling out to him from the void was the person who put him here in the first place, and not someone who is interested in helping.
