✦ KAYNE FRAGMENT AU ✦
a malevolent au where kayne = nyarlothotep, and he willingly gives a fragment of himself to arthur and john. and the 'fuck around and find out's that come with it.
more under the cut !!
Tumblr media
— SOME QUICK NOTES:
the fragment (they/any) comes from kayne's right eye. this keeps them connected unlike the kiy
is given to inhabit john's conscious only, so arthur cannot hear them. they're still both stuck w him tho lol
manifested the voice of arthur's beloved late wife bella lester (special treat from kayne. if arthur ever hears them)
cannot be seen like john but still has two visual forms: humanoid (seen with john & arthur) and canine (seen with kayne)

An extensive mapping of all of the doctor's incarnations
Tumblr media
This is my second revision (third edition overall). In this edition I have added quite a few incarnations and origins as well as clean up the mapping quite a bit.
The added incarnations include: the Red Guardian, Dronid Doctor, Dr. Who (Cushing Movies), Intrepid, 11's Ganger, the Dream Lord, Master!Doctor, Ulysses (for the Infinity Doctor), and the Father of Time.
The added origins include:
For the Other: Intrepid, the Stranger from the Future, contemporary of Rassilon (replaces "naturally born pre-pythian curse), Ancient being (including the subsets of Mimir and Nyarlothotep), and some relation to Tectuen (because their role in mythology is similar)
For the Doctor Proper: 49th century colony
Note that I also included both "invalid" doctors (such as Peter Cushing and Lenny Henry), as well as characters originally intended to be the doctor/other but never confirmed (Red Guardian, Intrepid )
I desperately wanted to add Ryan Fogarty's idea that Marnal was actually the Other and the Doctor absorbed the Other's biodata due to regenerating in his (Marnal's) TARDIS so many times, and being in it, but couldn't find any kind of actual evidence (unlike my Mimir Canon-Weld which I feel has somewhat adequate evidence).

A little experimental piece I did of one of my previous D&D BBEGs, Nyarlothotep...or as the party liked to call him, Narcolepsy.

𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄: vivian. her true name is vu'uth'kthul 𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐒: abhorrent mother, crawling hunger, cosmic parasite, & many more. 𝐀𝐆𝐄: old, older than time and space. predates cosmic law. 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑: genderless. though, vivian does have a fascination with motherhood, and an adoration of the feminine form and will. thus, she/her will do. 𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄: lovecraftian entity. elder god...
𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘: vivian is older than all universal law, and predates all pantheons. a skittering horror in the sea of the void. she wanders all time and space, hungry. seeking worlds to prey upon. feeding off the entropy caused by the mass change she creates in each and every one. secondary to her appetite, vivian seeks to procreate. something that most of her kin cannot do. but vivian manages through the enigmatic pacts she makes with mortals and immortals alike.
𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐒 to try and limit her abilities would do her an immense disservice. vivian can do nigh anything you can think of. and more than that. she can bend reality, and alter time and space. she is not indestructible, but she is truly immortal. being what she is, she is beyond death-- neither living nor non-living. vivian is an unknowable, unattainable entity. to witness her in her truest form would sunder the mind, and drive most anyone in the great vast multiverse- to madness.
𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘: vivian's personality changes depending on the encounter. she is a manipulative, cunning, and extremely charming individual. she, much like nyarlothotep, toys and meddles in moral affairs. it is a necessity, key to her survival- thus she has to be capable of bending many to her will. on the other hand however, vivian is extremely cruel and uncaring. a constant flow of contradictions, that shift and change.

trying so hard to finish the johannes cabal series and not touching another book but i gotta just complain for a little bit... i do not like these last two books man!! the fourth one was bearable and sometimes even fun (especially wrt cabal and horst reuniting) but the fifth is a god damn slog!!! what happened!! i feel like they are just so. boring. i dont care about like anything that is going on plot-wise... like when cabal went into the dreamlands that was sick as hell, wasn't keen on it at first but it quickly grew to be my favorite because it added such a delightful bit of mysticism and depth to both cabal and the world-- but this last book man i don't. care about going into ANOTHER dream-like world that is considerably less established and then hitting me with a plot that consists of "you need to do what the world/story wants you to do" like it is SUCH lazy writing. like a self-fulfilling prophecy of tropes. like it would be one thing if it made them question themselves or something... but they dont. especially with barrows bit as the Great Detective it pissed me off so bad. she just.... solved things. that's it end of. what is the point of that! and this is supposed to be the last book, end of cabals insane herculean effort to bring his love back and we haven't gotten any time with him. the narration is instead split between several characters that sometimes don't feel like they belong at this point in the journey, but just brought back bc they were idk. fun. like what about the cabal family? what about the time before johannes' love died? what about like...... everything that actually mattered like WHAT is up with nyarlothotep and his.... obsessive game he's playing with cabal. what happened with that! we're just not going to talk about it?? he just grew bored?? i'm Praying he appears again bc i do not care for ninuka she is a lame ass villain out of left field. ALSO. i dont care much for cabal getting as nice as he's gotten recently it is borderline repulsive characterisation. let him do horrible things without giving a fuck!! kill people!! ruin their lives!! no deserved redemption only hubris!!

Nyarlothotep!
I've been microdosing Alex Jones (i.e. listening to Knowledge Fight) and I have Ideas about what to do with the human half of my oc Mask of Nyarlathotep (Reverend Nathaniel Thorpe) now.
The problem is im afraid of being accused of cultural appropriation with the inhuman half (The Herald of Blinding Light) because it takes the form of an Ophanim/Throne (the angel that's a winged flaming wheel) even though that's... sort of the point. Through it and Thrope, Nyarlathotep is using the aesthetics of the Old Testament (and technically the Tanakh, but what I'm trying to critique with them is the appropriation of specifically Christianity by idealogues who use it to grift and promote bigotry)
But im scared to write it.
Anyway sorry for talking about ocs. I think people have forgotten Nyarlathotep is supposed to be scary.

Current list of things happening in the games I'm playing that I like.
1)Cults
2) textbook noir heroes in a non-noir scenario
3) fungus rock goop that is intermittently killing people of tuning them in the demons from princess mononoke
4) the line between fact and fiction in a game that actually handles the bleed over because if it's happening it's real and whether we are all characters in Alan's Nyarlothotep-driven self-insert horror while he tries to escape a nightmare dimension or real people being fucked with remains an ongoing question.
4) Odins eyes, I think they are nice
5) very atmospheric places where nothing is happening and Ink is getting uncomfortably anxious for the other shoe to drop.
6) sometimes the shoe is axes. Last time the show was two very fast moving wolves at Ink's face
7) the robot butler is in love with the old woman and will not tell her but does treasure the ring of the guy's dead puppet wife (who, again, could probably have been fixed) as proof that humans can love puppets. It was very cute. I'm also not sure about cherishing a strangers wedding ring because you're in love with your boss.
8) Ilmo and Jaako are extremely the most. They're also good people who see Saga as family (????) And Ilmo has "troops" which are probably the contingent of Finnish bikers I have seen.
9) somewhere, out there, is a caffeine addicted moose (dead, apparently) and maybe he has been Taken and I will get to watch Ink run away from that.
10) Alan is having a bad time. I fully endorse Alan having a bad time

Great Call of Cthulhu Campaigns (NecronomiCon 2022)
Celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the game, we look back at the campaigns that helped sustain the legacy! Call of Cthulhu has long been known for its richly envisioned campaign settings that pit intrepid globe-trotting adventurers against the forces of the Mythos, including Masks of Nyarlothotep, Horror on the Orient Express, Unseen Masters, Beyond the Mountains of Madness and others. 3, 17, 28 for 'the questions for writers'? 🖋
Thanks for the ask! :)
3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?
Oh gawd. I don't really have one. Sometimes I will say I'm gonna write and i sit down and just write and sometimes I say I'm gonna write and then I make breakfast and watch a youtube video, then listen to some music while scrolling through Tumblr and then I work on some world building for a different fic than the one I was intending to work on and then i scroll through tumblr and then I stare at google doc for awhile until I realize its lunch time and then I make lunch...I'm sure you can see where that is going. And it's definitely cursed. LOL
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
Oh boy.  I have like 7 WIPS. :D  Hmm...a lot of them have twists that I don’t want to hint at or spoil so...let’s see...Since you are a fallout fan I’ll roll with my as yet unnamed Sole Survivor/Hancock fic (its tentatively named Pickman’s Better Model, but not sure if I’m sticking with that) in which Sole is tasked with bringing Hancock to meet Richard Pickman after he investigates Pickman Gallery.  As a big Lovecraft fan I’m totally in love with all of the Lovecraft references in FO4, and I really wanted to write something that involves them.  And then I decided that since in the canon of Lovecraft’s story Pickman’s Model, Pickman is obsessed with ghouls, it would be kind of funny but also rather fitting if in the FO4 canon Pickman became obsessed with ghouls because of Hancock and his transformation into a ghoul, primarily because Pickman also wants to become a ghoul, but being the educated sort of man he is he is looking for a “better” way than just hoping for the best with a bunch of radiation in his face.  It’s really more of a pre-relationship kind of fic, where Sole and Hancock are getting to know each other more and they are both kind of awkward and snarky with each other but by the end they have moved to a bit more comfortable and snarky with each other.  As for things that won’t make it in, I'm waffling on a dumb running joke in the story in which Hancock keeps calling Sole “smoothie” and Sole being who he is and coming from where he comes from keeps thinking he means smoothie like the drink, but Hancock means smoothie because he has smooth skin and eventually Sole just explodes because he just doesn’t understand the connection and Hancock explains it to him very slowly and with maybe some touching xD
28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?
My current-ish (we are on hiatus) DnD character, a non-binary dwarf warlock who worships Nyarlothotep and is currently possessed by the spirits of Sindri and Brok from Norse mythology is a delight to play and write silly things for. They are one of the few of my OCs that I've ever really been attached to, probably because the are just unhinged and cracked and it's a lot of fun. And it's helpful that my DM let me go off on writing the backstory and some of the events that happen.
Ask me writing questions!

current wip for the headshot because this is the nicest art I have of him ^^;

Meet Ace Beaumont! Ace is a favorite NPC of mine from my Folly of Helios setting! He's from Stahljern, but has adventured in New Wellington, as well as The Prospect (formerly "Remington's Prospect")
He's a gunsmith by trade, but the crazy sort who just gets really into perfecting the mechanics of firearms. He's got general machining & engineering skills as well, having designed a crane for a mining town and inventing the first gatling gun in my setting. While he's not a caster per-se, he is capable of copying runes & enchantments that have been pre-written out for him. Because of this he usually has a caster with him as an assistant. Currently, that's Levos Nailos (a former PC of a friend), though Garreth Brynmoor (NPC) was his intern before that. He sees both as adoptive sons, and is super protective of them, though neither particularly needs that much protecting.
Ace lost his wife, Sinmanni, years ago in a lab accident, and then spent a long time trying to bring her back. This resulted in him accidentally reading a book on eldritch magic he shouldn't have, and striking a deal with Nyarlothotep that completely backfired on him. As in Nyarlothotep imprisoned Ace in his own mind and posed as him to try to wake up Azathoth.
Thankfully, the adventuring party Nyarlothotep employed figured out his plan and managed to thwart it, rescuing Ace from his mind-prison in the process. Ace also learned through the temporarily-resurrected wizard mentor of Levos' that his wife uh. Was very not dead. (Also that guy's name is Aldwin) As in she was actually the soul of one of the world dragons that make up the planet of Folly of Helios. She got forced back into her actual body by the god of death (who maintains order in the setting) to prevent things from falling apart, and her not being dead is why all of Ace's attempts to resurrect her failed.
Ace helped the party in their showdown to banish Nyarlothotep, but due to the actions of certain party members (you should ask @emmettkane about his character Vlad!) things with the ritual they carried out went very awry. Awry as in the party tore a planar tear to the negative energy plane which is effectively siphoning all the magic out of New Wellington. Which did in fact banish Nyarlothotep. But also. Left everyone without magic.
At present, Ace is traveling the world of Folly of Helios, working with Levos to find a way to close the planar tear, and undo the things he set in motion. Technically Levos is in charge, as the queen of New Wellington was going to have him executed or imprisoned for life for causing an apocalypse, but Levos vouched for him to try to fix it instead.
This is already SUPER long because Ace has a LOT of backstory, but I have one more piece of art I'm going to put under the cut because it's a bit sensitive content-wise! So, content warning for self-harm scars.
Tumblr media
This is an OLD piece of art, but have an Ace immediately after the party recovered him from his mind-prison! Eldritch magic in the setting causes strange tattoos to start appearing on people using it, but they can heal, so he no longer has those at least.
While Ace was imprisoned, he was able to mess with a lot of magical stuff he shouldn't, and found out that in every possible timeline that existed, his wife died.
He also very much did not enjoy being in there, and tried multiple times to off himself in an effort to escape, hence all of his scars.
I THINK that's all I have for Ace for now? He has a lot of other stuff I could talk about, but this is already hella long.
