“NO!”
At 120 kilometres per hour, Virgil’s little hydrofoil tripped on its own foils and spun in the air, coming down hard, before bouncing off the water surface to spin again, bounce again and again until its angle of entry penetrated the water surface and drove her under.
There was a split second of pure frozen horror.
Then the comms erupted and Gordon moved.
His scanners tracked the pod as it dove, speed leeching into the water the deeper it got. He knew there was enough air in the craft for it to resurface by itself, but that calculation neglected to take in any possible damage to the hull.
It would only take a crack.
He flung TB4 into a steep dive, deploying her arms on approach and grabbing the wounded pod. Shifting his turbines into reverse, he slowed her plummet and began pulling her towards the surface.
His lights shone on the cabin.
Virgil was slumped in his restraints.
“Virgil?”
“Gordon, what’s the pod’s status?” Scott’s voice was strong as ever, but it was trembling just that little bit. Shock, no doubt.
“Recovering now. Pilot appears unconscious.”
“I have no response from Virgil.”
“Neither do I.” His heart was thudding in his chest.
It took years to get to the surface. Likely a matter of seconds, but staring at his injured brother while separated by marine acrylic and water and not able to do anything but look, stretched time beyond belief. But eventually they surfaced, the sun sparking off wet metal and plastic, Thunderbird Two’s engines shaking the air some distance off starboard.
Securing TB4, Gordon flipped out, under, and swam over to the crippled hydrofoil. He climbed up the side of the craft, his gloved hands ghosting over dented metal. Her foils were bent at odd angles, but the core pod…the core pod was secure. Thank god for good and safe design. Her seals had held.
He banged on the clear acrylic. Virgil didn’t react.
Please.
He reached around the back edge of the hatch, his fingers searching for the emergency release. The ocean made the world go up and down.
Finally, his fingers caught the latch and with a hiss of broken seal, he hauled up the hatch. The sea breeze stirred Virgil’s hair.
Gordon yanked off a glove and holding his breath reached for Virgil’s pulse.
His brother’s heart beat against his fingertips.
Oh, thank god.
“H-he’s alive.”
There was an incoherent sound of relief at the other end of the comline.
“We’re going to need a spinal board down here.”
“Copy that.”
It didn’t surprise Gordon to see Scott pin drop from Thunderbird Two several moments later. He’d stripped off most of his uniform, leaving only his undershirt and shorts on. He had also donned a harness to which he had attached one of TB2’s first aid kits. He paddled over on the spinal board and hurriedly clambered up the side of the mangled hydrofoil, his eyes seeking his injured brother.
Gordon had done a visual assessment of Virgil. It appeared that the pod’s safety harness had done its job. There were no obvious major injuries. There would be bruises, no doubt, but his brother appeared to be in one piece.
Scott’s fingers brushed against Virgil’s hair.
“Let’s get him out of there.”
It took some awkward manoeuvring and Virgil was damn heavy, but finally with his spine and neck immobilised as much as possible, the two brothers manhandled him into a basket stretcher lowered from TB2.
Virgil did not stir at all.
Taking one last second to grip Gordon’s shoulder in thanks, Scott rode Virgil’s stretcher up into the confines of Thunderbird Two, and the aquanaut was left staring at the mangled and empty hydrofoil.
As TB2 tore off towards the mainland, Gordon swore and sunk his boot into the side of the crippled craft.

just wanted to let you know i am Eating your dai li lu ten au. long feng doesn’t know how to be Normal towards his new subordinate because everyone in the dai li, including himself, grew up being indoctrinated and turned into human weapons in an incredibly toxic and soul crushing environment (bc i don’t think the dai li only started being Like That after long feng gained control, and i think it’s canon they start training at 13?)…just like the FN royal family grew up being indoctrinated and turned into human weapons in an incredibly toxic and soul crushing environment, so for lu ten there are a surprising amount of uncomfortable similarities…This Is Fine
LITERALLY THISSSS and lu ten is like. his shiny new subordinate. but in order to keep a sharp eye on him obviously lu ten operates as long fengs personal agent. but it develops beyond "I have to have him near me to keep an eye on him". being long fengs Only personal agent makes the way lu ten is treated compared to the REST of the dai li make sense- high clearance, solo missions that take him outside of ba sing se, his room (cell) being personal (its a room. but its a cell. Its still his room. it has a nice bed and lounging chairs and a tea set and scrolls and whatever the fuck else you have in your room) and deep under lake laogai (away from the sun). harsh punishments that are like 2 shots and a blunt away from torture. but the thing is- and this is where the silco and jinx influence comes in- their dynamic is obviously built on manipulation, but long feng doesn't like... actively manipulate him with words or actions. the regularly scheduled chi blocking and dai li-special brainwashing, yeah, but he doesn't add onto it by feeding lu ten ideas or playing with lu tens mind. its not anything like ozai and azula, or mother gothel and rapunzel. its far more casual and trusting. professional, since it is still a boss and his subordinate, but since lu ten is special, there's a taste of domesticity. long feng doesn't make lu ten bust his ass for the paternal mentor side. its like 'dad and the cat he didn't want'. long feng isn't suspicious of what lu ten does on his solo missions. hed get defensive on lu tens behalf if one of the other dai li heads that do know about lu ten being a fire nation prince would imply that he might betray long feng and ba sing se. he doesn't try to push anything onto lu ten because he doesn't have to- everything long feng wants in lu ten as his agent develops on its own, naturally. hes not cold and calculating when hes punishing lu ten for failing a mission, even if the punishments are crazy harsh. he hands over delicate business that could threaten ba sing se's security to lu ten with relief because long feng trusts him more than he trusts the other powerful dai li heads and politicians that are near long feng's level of power in ba sing se- and not even because lu ten will answer to him anyway, or because he has no reason not to- just because he trusts that lu ten will get the job done right. he trusts lu tens productivity and skill not just as a worker, but just as a person. the pride and care is genuine, and it coexists with the fact that he would definitely use lu ten against the fire nation as a last resort defense if worse came to worst. and yeah, long feng notes their similarities and vows that since lu ten is a special case agent, he will be treated by long feng humanly, and with respect and care. it's almost like a parent vowing to not be like their parents before them, but like. dark sided and evil

Personally i doubt thor knows loki loves him
U know what I'm gonna take the challenge on this one. Now, this post will only discuss their relationship in the movies before Ragnarok, because I don't really like that movie and I think it did a great disservice to both the characters and their relationship; the brightest and best of them comes from Thor, Avengers, and Dark World in my opinion, so I will be talking about what I love rather than what I have at best apathy for. Sticking it under the cut (it got looooong because I love to think about their dynamic), so if you want my opinion, read on, and if you've seen enough opinions for a lifetime and don't want any more, scrumble away and have a lovely day
Okay so let's start with Thor. In the beginning of that movie, there is absolutely no doubt in Thor's heart that Loki loves him, and here's why: Thor is an arrogant man who is largely blind to the things he doesn't agree with or understand. He has this mentality of other people just being made to love and adore him, because he's the future warrior king of Asgard, he's the golden boy, and because Asgard's people really do love and adore him, so his arrogance is only being confirmed by other people's actions. And of course, there's nobody who should love and adore Thor more than his brother, right?
Now, here's where I want to digress for a minute to talk about how incredibly unhealthy their relationship is. Thor kind of has the same outlook that Loki expresses in Avengers, that people are beneath him, and that's why they should all be looking up to him with awe and praise, and that extends even to his own brother. He tells Loki to mind his place and kind of brushes off his advice, because even though they're brothers and that's the closest anyone could get to being his equal, it's still not enough. Thor views Loki as another person who is beneath him, but who ultimately can't do anything but look up to him and love him.
This is an illusion.
Loki does love Thor. Their relationship, with how complicated and messy it is, only works if they truly love each other, and they do. But it's not the blind, adulating love that Thor expects. It's a jealous, aching love. Loki craves being equal to Thor, a problem that's only exacerbated by the way Thor denies him that position. He craves to be loved as he's assumed to love. And the problem with a love like that is how quickly it can turn. If Thor won't give Loki the affection he needs, then Loki isn't going to show Thor affection the way Thor wants him to, either.
That first movie is in multiple ways a brutal awakening for Thor. He's not the man his father wants him to be. His entire life he's been training to be king and then that future seems like it's been ripped away from him. He has his power and then it's all gone. And his brother, this person around whom he's constructed a narrative of almost reverent adoration, suddenly turns against him, tries to keep him in exile and then to kill him, tries to take the life that was promised to Thor. That looks absolutely nothing like the love Thor has believed Loki feels for him.
I would feel some doubt at that point. I think anyone would. My sibling tried to kill me. Does he still love me? Did he ever love me?
And to add to that natural doubt, Thor doesn't understand Loki. He never really has. He doesn't know what it's like to be, as Loki says later, living in the shade of someone else's greatness, the trickster brother who's never really trusted, let alone lauded. And correct me if I'm wrong, but even by the end of Thor, he doesn't know what really tipped Loki off the deep end. He doesn't know that Loki's just found out he's a Jotun in a land of Asgardians, that he's the very thing he's been brought up to hate and fear, so Thor doesn't understand why Loki is acting so erratically, which must compound the doubt for him. From his point of view it's like a light switch flicked and now Loki's trying to kill him, which increases the did he ever? question. Was it always a facade? And I don't think Thor ever quite realizes the illusion he built around Loki, the difference between his expectations and reality to begin with, so he also wouldn't be seeing that it's not quite instantaneous, that there were years of building resentment and longing that contributed to the tipping point of Loki's changed behavior.
So by the end of Thor, yes, he's got to be wondering if Loki loved him.
But when Thor appears in Avengers, do you remember what plea he makes? He says I grieved for you, I want you to come home. That's not the kind of thing you say to someone you think doesn't care about you. That's a plea to the heart. That's Thor trying to get to the love he knows is in there somewhere, behind everything else that's built up around Loki's heart; that's Thor saying I know you still love me, I don't know what changed, but please let our bond be enough to fix it. Whatever he's been thinking about between the events of those two movies, he's moved past that doubt enough to think maybe Loki's love for him will be enough to bring him home, even if some part of him expects Loki to say no anyway. We know that in the interim he learned of Loki's status as a Jotun, so maybe Thor's even begun to try to understand. Maybe he's been thinking about the fact that life got very hard and very confusing for Loki very suddenly, and he wonders if now that some time has passed, there's a chance Loki wants to come back and work through it with him and their parents. When he says "we were raised together, we played together, we fought together," he's not just trying to convince Loki that he's loved, he's trying to remind Loki of his own love.
Again, during the Battle of New York itself, Thor makes a similar plea. He offers that he and Loki stop the fight together, and his eyes are so incredibly soft when he says it, you know he believes it can still work. That belief comes from knowing there's something in Loki that wants to say yes, something that loves Thor enough to give up his dream of kingdom and stop the invasion. His use of together is interesting not just because he's offering Loki a way out, putting it on the table that Loki can exercise his heart and choose a better path, but also because he's finally putting Loki on the same level he is. We can do this, we can return home, you just have to find some part of you that loves me enough to choose equality with me in this fight over equality with me in having thrones. He also holds back when he's dueling Loki, which is a horrible idea if you actually believe a person has the capacity to kill you, but if you don't believe that, it's an ultimate show of trust. Thor kind of puts his life in Loki's hands by not using his full strength, and only after Loki rejects his offer and stabs him does he finally use more brute force, although it's still not enough to kill Loki or even knock him out. Thor really believes, not just wants to believe, that Loki will not kill him given the chance, that there is something in him that wants to go home, and it's all because Thor, after all his shattered illusions, still believes there is love for him in Loki's heart, even if it has been touched and twisted by anger and pain.
In Dark World, Thor is much more pessimistic when he breaks Loki out of jail. He basically says that his brother is no longer in there, that he won't hesitate to kill Loki if he steps out of line. I think this is important to note because Thor isn't saying I don't believe you love me anymore, he's saying the person who loved me is dead and this shell is all that remains. Thor says he no longer has hope, but he's still clinging to that belief that Loki did love him, in his own way, and he would rather view Loki as dead than let go of it.
But beyond that, there's the fact that he not only lets Loki out of the handcuffs, he gives Loki a knife. Once again, you don't give a weapon to someone you wouldn't trust not to kill you, and you don't trust someone you've had so much tension with not to kill you unless you believe they love you. Loki says "trust my rage" re: Frigga being killed, but I would argue that actually wouldn't go in his favor. Thor has seen what Loki resorts to when he's not processing his emotions in any way other than rage: he attacks Thor, he falls into perfidy, he just lashes out at the closest target. And even despite that, despite having fought Loki in Thor and in Avengers, having witnessed firsthand what destruction Loki was willing to either cause or help facilitate, Thor still gives him a weapon and trusts that Loki isn't going to kill him. There is clearly still a part of Thor that is saying he loves me, he's not going to kill me.
Of course, by the end of that movie, Thor is rewarded in his faith. Loki stabs Kurse to save Thor, and it appears to cost him his life, and as he's dying, what does Thor say? Stay with me. In essence, loving me so much you'll die for me isn't enough, love me so much you'll stay alive for me. It's not a rational thing to say to someone who appears to be bleeding out; a person can't generally stave off death on willpower alone when they've been stabbed in the gut. Thor always ends up speaking to Loki's heart, because he knows that heart is bitter and full of rage and grief but also love, even though Loki is absolutely horrible at expressing it most of the time. I want to talk about why Loki might've faked his death and taken Odin's place at the end of that movie in another post, but part of me really thinks he chose that specific way to fake his death because he wanted Thor to see that Loki did love him, and that was the only way he could think of to reach out without actually having to confront his own pain and the enormity of the breach between them. Now, the "I didn't do it for him" could be taken one of two ways: it was actually for Frigga, or it was actually for Thor. I'm very much inclined to believe the latter, as Thor is the one present in the scene. Also, the expression on Thor's face when Loki says that is so frozen, like yes, I wanted more than anything to be told that you still care, but not like this. And it feels like Loki is doing his best to communicate that he does love Thor, but his communication skills, especially with Thor, are severely distorted, partially by that unhealthy relationship they had early on where he most likely never felt entirely welcome to speak his true feelings, and partially by the chasm that opened between them when Loki went into his downward spiral of destruction, both of himself and of others. I genuinely think Loki doesn't know how to just say it. To quote myself from an earlier post I made about Loki, he feels like "there’s no way he can possibly repair the relationships he’s broken," so he doesn't try to apologize and make up for it. Like someone else (I forget who) has already said, sacrifice is the way Loki makes up for things. So he gives Thor this image of a sacrifice, the ultimate expression of love and devotion, because he doesn't know how else to say it.
What's the point of all this? Thor knew Loki loved him. That's the whole point of their story. Their love for each other is the cornerstone on which that immense cosmic narrative is built. Even with doubt, anger, bitterness, frustration, grief, pain all complicating their relationship and getting in the way of actually expressing love to each other, the fundamental truth of Thor and Loki is love. Is faith. Is hope. Is saying maybe you don't know how to say it, maybe you're trying to shut it down, but I know there is something in you that loves me and that's the part I choose to believe in.
Thor knew Loki loved him.

The villain stared down at them, eyes not quite cold, but not caring either. Their hands were steady. The hero shook.
“You’re my best friend,” the hero’s voice broke, and it was a plea and a statement and a reminder all at once.
Don’t do this, I love you—
The gun went off.

Now that I got every design done for the main cast, time to get back to work on the SSSSSuper AU! This'll just be a list of their super powers because I don't feel like drawing today but still wanted to do something under the cut :3
Cuddles
His super powers consist of two main things: Super speed and super hops! Extremely helpful for him to get to his friends faster and confuse the bad guys! He's one of the weaker heroes, but Splendid sees major potential in him!
Giggles
Her super powers are similar to a fantasy princess! She can hover temporarily with the flow of her dress! Her kisses can also be deadly and can temporarily hypnotize the baddies into doing whatever she wants!
Toothy
He isn't much, but what he does have can shake up the battlefield! Literally! His tail is the strongest on the super island! When he slams his tail (and butt) on the ground, he can cause a small earthquake and cause the ground below to crack! His teeth are also just as strong, as they can munch right through material as strong as steel! His singing voice is also powerful enough to break minds if he puts his heart into it, but he hasn't realized it yet!
Petunia
Much more of a pacifist than a fighter, she has a form of chlorokinesis made for healing and cleansing others! She is incapable of self defense, but always carries around pepper spray and can use her plants as a getaway ride should danger arise!
Flaky
Her powers only active whenever they are anxious! Her spines become much more sharp, able to shoot out of his skin, regenerate, pierce hard surfaces, and are extremely hard to break! When he's not anxious though, he has night vision!
Nutty
His powers can only activate if he's eaten a piece of candy, which is why he constantly carries them around (and because he's addicted to sugar too)! He has super speed and an extremely strong stomach and teeth that can digest anything! His claws are also ridiculously sharp, cutting through and climbing up any surface! His weakness is black coffee.
Sniffles
This one should be obvious! An extremely high IQ! An IQ of around 5,000 to be exact! He uses his smarts to improve island life and build weapons to enhance the arsenal of his own and others (for a price)!
Handy
No, he still doesn't have arms sadly. HOWEVER, he has telekinesis! That's how he was able to work for so long despite the lack of hands. Also his skull is made of metal so his headbutts are absolutely going to break anything. The perfect battering ram!
Flippy
His powers are fairly simple. Super speed and super strength! He's the weaker of the two inhabiting his body, but he's fine with this reality!
Fliqpy
Now this is where shit gets real in the body he resides in. Not only are his powers enhanced when he's fronting, but he also gains smarts as well! He also can drink blood to heal up too. He loses all of his charisma in exchange, but no one wants to be close to this mad man... right?
Splendid
Honestly, what powers doesn't he have??? Super speed, laser vision, flight, frost breath, super hearing, and more! He's everything that the other heroes aren't and more! He's seen as THE hero of the island! Which explains why he's the head of it as well. Still weak to kryptonut tho.
Spendont
His powers are extremely similar to Splendid's! Some people even entertain the thought of them being siblings, which entertains the blue squirrel more than the red one. He's way less known than Splendid however due to his very few appearances around the place, but when he is seen in public, it's either going to be hectic or hellish.
Mime
His mimes become real! Like an invisible box around someone, a set of stairs leading to who knows where, or imaginary instruments! He can also clone himself as many times as he wants, BUT his powers get weaker the more it spreads to his clones. He wants to become a town hero one day, but in order to do that, he must learn to master his craft!
Disco Bear
His powers are very situational. He has the power to mind control people! However only whenever they listen to his music, which makes his parties absolutely the best! You just need to sign the waiver first before you enter his night club on the evenings he's performing... Does not having a heart attack after eating fried butter count as a super power btw?
Pop
Cub
In exchange for smarts, he can create forcefields for the folk he cares about most. Unfortunately he can't create any for himself and they can break after enough damage. Other than that, he has a little bit of pyrokinesis in his blood, but it's not strong enough to cause heavy damage.
His powers haven't fully formed yet, so it's a chaotic mess of what he can do at the moment! So far he's been recorded to shapeshift, spit acid, attract bad luck occasionally, breathe underwater, and/or have a very, very accurate aim!
Lammy
She can speak to inanimate objects/animals and they can talk back to her! She can also tell how you're feeling from just a glance, even if your face remains monotone! She's incapable of self defense, but she can lead her animal army against you, so just hope she only summons tiny creatures that don't have viruses and sharp teeth/talons!
Russell
He is a simple man trying to live a simple pirate life. Whenever he goes underwater, he turns into a merman and can breathe underwater! He's much better at combat whenever he's under the sea since he can actually move swiftly!
Mole
Lumpy
Ever since his acting gig that exposed him as a hero, he's leaned heavily into his agent role, finally using his powers extensively. Invisibility and disguises on the fly alongside super hearing and super reflexes to dodge enemy gunfire! However, even invisible/in disguise, he's our favorite blind and mute critter.
He is literally a walking talking metronome (as in the Pokemon move). Whenever he tries to activate his powers, it's always something random that will probably at least hurt everyone around him. Sometimes he gets the bad guys and sometimes he puts his friends in the hospital. However that doesn't set him back, he still believes he's a superhero!
Shifty
He has the midas touch AND super strength! Anything he touches with his bare hands turns into gold, making him suspiciously rich! He wears gloves so that he doesn't accidentally make his black coffee turn into liquid gold (does not taste good). He also can lock pick anything if that's a super power.
Lifty
He... He actually has none!!! Isn't that shocking in an AU made where EVERYONE is supposed to have powers? Well unfortunately not Lifty. He and his bro were both transported to the island because the agents there couldn't tell the difference between the two so they said fuck it and sent them both. What is powerful about this second hand man however is his jealousy.
Truffles
Teleportation. Yeah that's pretty much it. He doesn't use it to fight, but uses it to get away from conflict and observe people from afar as if they're living in his world.
Cro-Marmmot
Everywhere this block of ice goes leaves behind an ice trail! He can also speak via telepathy to anyone he wishes to. Otherwise it's good ol Cro-Marmmot from back in the day.

Seagulls
Tumblr media
Just a very quick bit of random this time inspired by the fact that I have to go back to work and really don’t want to. Also been suffering from fog brain.
Don’t expect too much sense. ::hugs you all::
-o-o-o-
Water lapped against his ears, its gentle embrace muffling the sound of the seagulls diving into the water around him.
He closed his eyes.
He didn’t want to think, just exist, hang in the moment and ignore the implications.
He was floating on his back and the sea was calm except for the determined birds diving around him. One landed on his leg, claws catching his harness, the link clinking against avian toenails.
He ignored it.
Gordon would be proud of him. He had that at least. Proud that he had survived, that all those water drills that had doubled as revenge for all the drills his brothers had dragged him through had been worth it.
Always worth it.
Something nibbled at his hand.
He shook it off.
The vague thought of sharks wandered through his mind but it proved to be something more to ignore.
Scott would frown at him. His big brother was always about the details, the strategy, the future. It worked well for the Commander.
But right at this moment? He just wanted to exist. If that had implications for the future, he would face them then.
The Scott in the back of his mind facepalmed.
Scott did that a lot.
Alan thought it was hilarious. In fact, Virgil suspected that he and Gordon had a running bet on how many facepalms they could conjure from their older brother on any given day. Outside of professionalism, of course, but even then they gained a few bonus points each time they sported a Fischler type for a client.
Or a Lemaire.
There were far too many Lemaires.
And that was definitely something he didn’t want to think about right now.
Now, John, red hair and elegance itself. Yes, elegance. The John at the back of his head was glaring.
Is it possible to glare at yourself?
He didn’t care right now. John was elegant…in space at least, and definitely once he had reacclimatised on Earth.
His little brother could dance…and sing. He really could.
That thought of John spinning around the room like a red haired Frank Sinatra used up a few smile inducing moments.
Enough for a roar to enter his consciousness.
He opened his eyes to blue sky and the sudden appearance of Thunderbird One. Honestly, the rocket plane moved so fast it just appeared as if it teleported.
“Virgil, respond!”
It was then he realised that the sounds of seagulls were not birds at all, but his brothers trying to contact him.
Scott sounded distraught.
It was Virgil’s job to protect his big brother, to save him from stress and worry. Apparently, he had failed again.
He sighed into the breeze.
Something fell from the hovering plane and splashed off to the side.
Virgil hoped it didn’t hit any seagulls.
More splashing and…“Virgil? You with me, big bro?”
He blinked and turned his head.
Water got into his eyes.
“Hey, hey, hey, no, don’t do that. I’ve got you.” Strong arms wrapped around him and scooped him up, taking him from his floating position and pulling him into an embrace. He found himself held tight. ‘Thank god’ was mumbled into his collar bone.
A hiss of an indrawn breath. “I’ve got him, Thunderbird One. Conscious, but no response. He has a head injury, puncture wound to the thigh and he is losing blood.” A clink of joined harnesses. “Pull us up.” And then back into his collar bone. “I’ve got you, Virg. Hang on, Scott’s got us.”
And then, wrapped in a little brother’s arms he was lifted from the water and into the air.
He was flying.
“Virgil! Stay with me!”
Those hands gripped tighter, but he had wings and floated away.
While the seagulls yelled his name.
