Aqours 5th Live Pamphlet: Ruby Kurosawa and Ai Furihata

Ai Furihata: In this place filled with Aqours' milestones, we'll make this concert our first step towards our unexplored potential!

Ruby Kurosawa: With a bright ruby-tinted smile, I promise you: we will forevermore be the Aqours that tries our best with you!

Interview with Ai Furihata

Q1. This time, the concert title is “Next SPARKLING!!”. What does “SPARKLING” mean to you?

“SPARKLING” has a bouncy, fluffy image to me. The word also means “shining” and “flashing”, so it gives me a forward-looking feeling. I think that “Next SPARKLING!!” is a song where Aqours sings about moving towards our next radiance.

Q2. Please share your honest feelings regarding Saint Snow!

We've had more chances to stand on stage with Saint Snow since the unit concert in Hakodate, and in turn, I've felt their growth. In the story, they're our fellow contestants who dream of winning “Love Live!”, and like Ruby, Leah-chan thinks a lot about her older sister, so.... That's why I'm extremely happy when we perform on stage together as Saint Aqours Snow.

Q3. Which song from the movie left a particularly strong impression on you?

“Next SPARKLING!!” did!! Even the intro—I love it, and it makes me nostalgic... The sounds bring to mind all the time that we've spent together as Aqours. And the line “Each and every one of our memories is precious~” is wonderful—it's really cool how it expresses that we can't look away from any of our memories, even the sad or painful parts. I like that the feathered outfits give the feeling of going off on a journey.

Q4. In the theme of “Hop? Stop? Nonstop!”, what have you been excited about recently?

Practicing dances to prepare for 5th Live. Performing on stage with Ruby really lifts my spirits—I'm looking forward to that. Practicing the movie songs gets me especially excited. Ruby, let's Ganbaruby together!!

Q5. Do you have any strong memories or feelings from the movie talk shows?

One thing I'm grateful for is that since we were able to do so many of these talk shows, there were people who were able to meet Aqours for the first time! I was glad that we could see so many people who couldn't make it to our concerts or events. Being able to physically feel everyone's love for “Love Live!” was great.

[Context: There were many of these movie talk shows around Japan. Before or after these particular showings of the movie, a few members would show up for about 20-30 minutes and talk a bit, especially about what they enjoyed in the movie.]

Q6. Are there any scenes in the movie that left a particularly deep impression on you?

When the six of us formed a circle before the final performance, we heard the third-years’ voices reverberating in our hearts. That’s the moment when the new Aqours was born. The movie has plenty of scenes where we form a circle, but at the very end, the tears wouldn’t stop. Once “Next SPARKLING!!” started after that, I was moved even more than before, and my tears welled up.

Q7. What scenes do you think your character shines in?

The scenes where Ruby speaks up and shares her own thoughts in front of everyone. I was happy to see so many parts where Ruby puts things into motion by sharing her thoughts. I felt like we were able to see the power hidden within Ruby again.

Q8. What do you like/where do you want to go in Numazu?

I like the beach where “Love Live! Sunshine!!” begins. At the one that it’s modeled after—Mito Beach—I’ve attended the “Candle Night” event, and it’d be great if I could go again.

Going on vacation, I end up making impulse purchases (laughs). I think to myself that “this is the only chance I’ll have to buy it”, then I find my purse strings loosening.

Q10. What’s something you want to change, and what’s something you don’t?

I want to get everyone more involved and change Aqours’ future!!! The nine of us that form Aqours can go so much further, so I want to create a future alongside everyone that’ll surpass our wildest dreams. What I don’t want to change are my feelings for Ruby. With Ruby, who changed my life, I want to keep walking… no, running by her side!

Aqours 5th Live Next SPARKLING!! Pamphlet: Aida Rikako

The quick change that everyone’s looking forward to in 5th Live’s Brightest Melody is definitely...

I too believe that I can do it... so I want this power that is welling up within me to reach everyone ♪

This live is called "Next SPARKLING!!". What do you think of when you hear SPARKLING?

SPARKLING: Bubbles popping and vanishing in a moment, like youth!

Please tell us your honest feelings regarding Saint Snow!

Saint Snow is both an important rival for Aqours and also their comrades. There's no way that Aqours would be able to grow to this point if they didn't exist. They were worthy rivals and we pushed and supported each other from the back. I daresay that even the cast members felt the same way too.

Which song from the movie left a particularly strong impression on you?

Brightest Melody. In the movie's storyline, it's the last song of Aqours as nine that represents their position, but somehow the lyrics also signify a new beginning. The first time I heard it, I felt goosebumps. And just like the title, it truly is Aqours' brightest song!

This is somewhat related to Hop? Stop? Nonstop!, but tell us something that recently made you excited!

I was excited when looking for cosmetics in the department store!

Do you have any strong memories of any feelings that you felt during the movie talk show?

We held it in various locations, so I was able to recognize once again that there are fans who support Aqours all over the country. Because of that, I feel that we must go and spread our feelings to everyone even more.

Are there any special scenes in the movie which are imprinted in your heart?

The scene immediately preceding Next SPARKLING!!, the last song. It is the scene where the six members stand in a circle and count off before they stand on stage.

What scenes do you think that the member you perform as shine in?

Every scene in which she's interacting with Chika!

What do you like/where do you want to go to in Numazu?

Grandma. They have great sweets and cake.

Ultra Jump April 2018: 100 Questions for Kobayashi Aika

April’s edition of Ultra Jump was a Guilty Kiss special. It featured a photoshoot, an interview with all 3 members, and a special Q&A section with each seiyuu. Here’s Aikyan’s 100 Questions!

1. Favorite food? I like all sorts of fruits. But I like strawberries the most! Ah, but I like mangoes, peaches, and watermelon, too...

2. Disliked food? There’s nothing I wouldn’t eat!

3. Favorite snacks? Snacks made with potatoes. More specifically, Jagapokkuru!

4. Your number one favorite home-cooked dish? Cod roe pasta! It’s really tasty. I want to learn how to make it soon.

5. Favorite color? Black, grey, red, and white.

6. Favorite scent? Perfume from Chloe.

7. Favorite season? Definitely autumn. I might be because I was born in autumn, but the temperature is also good, and I like the western fashion during the season. It’s a nice season.

8. Favorite event of the year? I have allergies, but definitely cherry blossom viewing! I make plans to go with my family every year, and it’s really fun.

9. What sport do you like watching? I’m always excited and nervous when I watch figure skating.

10. What sport do you like playing? Is dancing a sport? I love dancing. I’m bad at ball sports, but I do like badminton!

11. Favorite animal? Dogs!!!!! And red pandas!!

12. If you were to compare yourself to an animal, what would you be? Maybe a dog…?

13. Are you a dog person? Or a cat person? Definitely a dog person!!!!!

14. Favorite manga? Super Radical Gag Family. I remember reading it aloud with my childhood friends when I was in elementary school…(laughs)

15. Favorite genre of manga? Anything that’s interesting, or anything that makes my heart skip a beat. I want that to happen to me too!!!!!

16. First manga you read? Was it Kobo-chan…? Or maybe those 4 panel comics that they print at the end of newspapers.

17. First anime you watched? My grandfather rented “The Nutcracker” from the video store, and I kept watching it until I got bored.

18. Favorite movie? Rapunzel!

19. Favorite musical artist? It will always be Amuro Namie-san.

20. Song(s) you listen to every day? Aqours songs!!

21. First CD you bought? I don’t really remember… It might have been Morning Musume’s “Hyokkori Hyoutan-jima”...

22. Your specialty song at karaoke? When I go to karaoke with my friends, I sing and dance to Morning Musume songs.

23. Phone lock screen? I set it to a picture of Yohane that Hyogonosuke-san drew. It’s a nice picture, isn’t it?

24. A clothing brand you often buy? I don’t fuss over brands. I just buy whatever looks good. Brands I like are I AM I and didizizi. A brand I really want is l’atelier du savon.

25. Your best outfit? Clothing dyed in jet black. It represents my identity as a fallen angel. In other words, black clothing.

26. Favorite place in your house? In my bed. During the winter, my dogs come and lay in my bed with me, which makes me like it even more.

27. What do you want most right now? Lots of Yohane LINE stamps.

28. What’s something that you’ll always carry in your bag? Some lip balm and Mintia.

29. What’s something you’ve been collecting unintentionally? Cute cosmetics, cute hats, and cute accessories! Well, rather than unintentionally, I’ve been collecting them on purpose, though.

30. What’s your treasure? A necklace that I got from my mom when I turned 20.

31. What kind of child were you? Well...I was really good at playing by myself!!! That’s all I’ll say!!!!!

32. Your childhood treasure? I used to collect round stones. They were all really pretty and smooth! Also, I had a stuffed dog that I named Chibi-chan.

33. Your childhood dream? I wanted to be a singer and a preschool teacher.

34. Someone you respect? Amuro Namie-san. She really is a cool artist and woman.

35. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? Hm...if it’s summer, Okinawa! If it’s winter, Kyoto! Maybe!

36. What country do you want to try visiting? Maybe England, or the Maldives! I’d want to become a wizard in England, and I’d want to take it easy in the Maldives.

37. Any bad habits? I always touch my hair.

38. Do you have a catchphrase? I feel like I say “No way!” a lot.

39. Charm point? What would it be...maybe my eyes!

40. A strength you have? I always see things through to the end.

41. A shortcoming you have? I get really absorbed into things and ignore my surroundings.

42. Your special skill? I’m pretty good at sewing. It’s something that I brag about sometimes, though.

43. Something you’re bad at? Being rushed. I tend to get nervous.

44. A precise weakness of yours? Being called Aika.

45. What do you want to fix about yourself? The part of me that gets nervous...

46. What are you confident you can imitate well? I think my impression of My Melody is pretty close.

47. What’s something you could live off of? My smartphone...perhaps. No, I’ll need food to live...no, maybe water...ah! Some Aqours water!!!

49. A phrase you’ve been using a lot? Maybe “Well, those kinds of things happen too, right?”. I think it’s more fun to be positive!

50. Favorite motto? “With everything you’ve got”.

51. If you could describe yourself with one word, what would it be? Little demon.

52. Something you’ve been picky about recently? I’m often picky about my nails. I’m always worrying about what kind of clothes their color will go well with. So recently, I’ve been deciding the theme for my nails beforehand.

53. Fill in the blank with something positive: I’m actually _. I’m actually good with my hands. Probably.

57. How do you kill time? Sleep. Watch YouTube videos. Shop online.

58. How do you relieve stress and refresh yourself? Drink beer!

59. What app have you been using often recently? SIF and AC Pocket Camp!

60. What’s something you always do once you wake up? I take a bath!

61. What’s something you always do before you sleep? I set an alarm on my phone. I never forget to set it!

62. What do you do when you ride the train? I sleep, or I look at my phone.

63. What do you do to maintain your health? I use facial masks! And I wash my hands and rinse my mouth! And I get a good night’s sleep!

64. What do you do when you have the day off? I sleep in as long as I can...If I have plans to go out, then I do my nails or go to the salon, and get all my shopping done.

65. What do you do when you have time to yourself? I shop online, play games, and sometimes go out to look at western fashion.

66. What do you do when you hang out with friends? Recently, I’ve been going out with the Aqours 1st years to photogenic spots to take photos. We wear matching outfits, too. “When it’s time to have fun, have as much fun as you can!” is my motto.

67. Where do you want to go on your first date? Ehhh? With who? A-anywhere...is fine. Other than the haunted house, an amusement park sounds nice!

68. If you were to confess to someone, what kind of situation would you want it to be? Um...when I’m getting off the train and saying goodbye, as the doors are closing, I’ll say “I like you” and then run away, perhaps…(laughs).

69. If someone were to confess to you, what kind of situation would you want it to be? I want them to whisper “I love you” in my ear. And I would just be like, “Really!?” and let it soak in.

70. What memories do you have of graduation? A lot of mysterious feelings welled up inside of me, and I cried while singing our school song.

71. Something fun that happened recently? Today! I haven’t had a lot of chances to go to amusement parks, so today was really fun!

72. Something sad that happened recently? Us first years were playing a game where we tried to make our eyebrows go in a 45 degree angle, and Aiai (Furihata Ai) told me that my face looked like a Wi-Fi symbol. It was a little sad.

73. Something funny that happened recently? I saw Rikyako’s sleeping face. It was so funny that I cried laughing. (laughs) Maybe one day I’ll release it!

74. Something about your past you want to erase? My dark history!!! I don’t really have any!!!

75. A moment that made you think “This is a miracle!”?

Love Live! Sunshine!! and a sweets shop in Numazu called Grandma did a collaboration called “Datenshi’s Chocola”. And in episode 5 of the second season, Yohane named the dog that she found “Lailaps”. Well...my dogs are named Chocola and Laila. This is a miracle!!!!!

76. A moment that made you think “I’m glad to be alive”? When I’m eating my mom’s cod roe pasta!

77. What wish do you want granted in the future? I want for Love Live! Sunshine!! to be loved by even more people, and to do that, we’ll need to work hard to achieve even greater heights. There’s a lot of dreams that I want to make come true, so I’m looking forward to it.

78. What’s something you wished for that came true? This very moment!! I’m able to sing and dance, and I have the chance to do the things that I love with everything I’ve got.

79. Any fond memories of 2017? Going to Disneyland with the first years!

80. What went wrong in 2017? I cried during the 2nd Live Tour. I didn’t want to cry~.

81. What would you do if you won 100 million yen from the lottery? I would put half of it into savings, and use the other half to go on a vacation with my family. I’ll splurge on it!!

82. What would you do if you had a time machine? I’d go back in time and have fun with my preschool friends and teachers again~.

83. What would you want to do if the world were to end tomorrow? I’d spend it with my family...but I’d be really nervous. I’d probably hold them tight...

84. What would you want to eat if the world were to end tomorrow? I’d eat a ton of shrimp and fried chicken.

85. If you could bring one thing to a deserted island, what would it be? A soft futon.

86. If you were reborn in another world, what would you want to become? I definitely!!! would become a magician!!!

87. If you were reborn in this world, what would you want to become? I want to fly in the sky, so maybe a bird!

88. If you were to be reborn, would you want to be male or female? Female! I want to be born again female!

89. What’s good about being a girl? “Girls are always the best!” is what I think. You can wear a lot of fashionable clothes, and make your nails really cute!

90. What’s something you’d want to try if you were male? I’ve never had short hair, so I’d want to get a Mush-cut perm.

91. A challenge you want to take on? I want to try floating in the air like a fallen angel while singing. And maybe try jumping onto the stage to make my appearance.

92. A voice role you want to try in the future? I want to voice an elementary schooler. Or maybe something that’s not human. (laughs)

93. If you could do any job outside of voice acting, what would it be? I have a preschool teacher’s license, so I’d do that!

94. What made you the happiest out of everything you’ve been told? Seven years ago, I was told “Your songs really encourage me. Thank you so much.” It made me really happy, and it was the day I resolved to work hard as a singer.

95. Have you been keeping any secrets from the rest of Aqours? Not at all! Y-yes...I won’t say who it is, and if I returned it, I wouldn’t tell them, but once during rehearsal, I borrowed someone’s socks, and I haven’t returned them for about a year!!!!! (laughs)

96. Where in Numazu would you like to visit again? Mito Sea!!!

97. Praise yourself as much as possible! You’re always working so hard! You’re so clever, Kobayashi! Do your best! (laughs)

98. What kind of moment makes you think “This is Guilty”? Recently, Rikako started tickling Aina, but she keeps it a secret as to when and where she does it. That’s Guilty.

99. Your thoughts on today’s photoshoot? It felt like a really Guilty Kiss-esque photoshoot. The amusement park was really fun, and the merry-go-round really

Reconciliation of The Hearts

I’m gonna end this story in chapter 3. [Chapter 1]

Warning! This chapter is a bit angsty.

Pairings: YohaMaru, YohaRiko, YouMaru

Chapter 2: Let Time Ticks Again

“I’m sorry Miss Tsushima, but I can’t let you go out today.” The doctor sternly tells Yoshiko when she went to ask for permission to go out from her doctor.

“But…this is important doc! The love of…”

“Your health is more important than the love of your life Ms Tsushima! What will I tell your mother if you died early than expected? I have never met a stubborn patient like you! Your heart is getting weaker each day Miss Tsushima, I do not want anything to happen to you while you were outside!”

Yoshiko was silence, her doctor was right, anything could happen to her if her heart acted up. She blames it all on herself. Her bad habit leads to her health deteriorating. She used to blames God on everything when she broke up with Hanamaru, but now it seems like God is taking His revenge on her for blaming Him on everything. She finally got the chance to meet with Hanamaru again but it seems like the chance is slipping away from her grips.

“I’ll do the operation…if you let me out for this once.” Yoshiko suggested to her doctor. Doctor Nakazawa could not believe her ears when she heard that Yoshiko is willing to do the heart transplant that she had been put on hold for so long.

“But you said you would rather die than go for a heart transplant.”

“Because during that time I didn’t have any reason to live, but now I have doc, I want to make things up with my lover, and this is my only chance, so please…I will sign the agreement if you let me go.” Yoshiko begs.

“……”

Numazu Cemetery

“Atsuko…how are you?” Hanamaru asked in a teary voice. She bends down to touch the tombstone and smiles at the name that engraved on the stone ‘Kunikida Atsuko’.

“Mama is here Atsuko. I’m sorry that you didn’t have the chance to be born into this world…if mama could trade place with you zura, mama will…’ Hanamaru sobs.

“Zura…maru?”

Hanamaru turn to meet the eyes of the voice owner “You came, Yoshiko…” she said with a smile though her tears are streaming down her face.

“Why are you crying? Why did you want to meet at this place? It kinda give me the creeps.”

“Yoshiko, come here zura…”

Hanamaru held out her hand to Yoshiko and Yoshiko took it gladly with a confuse look on her face.

“Zuramaru, you still haven’t answered my question…why” Yoshiko could not finish her sentences when she saw the name that engraved on the tombstone.

“Zura..maru this is?”

“Neh Atsuko, meet your papa…”

“Daddy what do you mean by…” Yoshiko went dead silence when she finally able to connects all the dots.

“Hanamaru…this…this is…”

“This is our daughter…no” Hanamaru paused before she corrected herself “This was our daughter Yoshiko-chan…”

Suddenly all of the memories from 4 years ago flashed in Yoshiko’s mind.

Flashback to the fateful night 4 years ago

“Zuramaru wait!” Yoshiko called out to her fiancée who just stomped out from the room “It’s not what it looks like Zuramaru!”

Hanamaru stopped and turn to meet Yoshiko’s gaze and a slap meet with Yoshiko soft cheek “You both were naked under the sheet and it’s not what it looks like? Who are you trying to lie to Yoshiko-chan?!”

Yoshiko was dumbfounded, she had never seen Hanamaru so mad before, as her hand trembled while holding her stinging cheek, she tried to gather her courage to open her mouth but she couldn’t find her voice.

“Hanamaru-chan it’s really not what it looks like!” Riko said as she finally able to catch the two.

“I thought you were a friend Riko-chan…” Hanamaru said in between her sobs.

“Hanamaru, it was just a misunderstanding, we didn’t do anything…” Riko tried to explain herself. Hanamaru was too emotional to hear out Riko and Yoshiko’s explanation, she raises her hand, getting ready to slap Riko but before she could do it, Yoshiko grabbed on her wrist and stop her.

“Zuramaru No!!” Yoshiko shouted at Hanamaru.

Hanamaru was taken aback by Yoshiko’s protectiveness toward Riko.

“So I see…you were never in love with me, you were in love with Riko don’t you?”

“Zuramaru…”

“We’re through Yoshiko…I’m calling off the wedding!”

“Hanamaru wait!” Riko tried to stop Hanamaru but Hanamaru pushed her off, both of them loses their balance on the stairs.

“Riko!!” Yoshiko shouted when she saw that Riko is falling off the stairs. She managed to grab Riko by the waist in time, but she didn’t notice that Hanamaru was falling too. By the time she noticed Hanamaru, it was too late for Hanamaru already fallen and was lying on the floor like a lifeless body. Yoshiko panic when she saw that blood starting to flow in between Hanamaru’s legs. She rushes down to Hanamaru side and shouted at Riko to call the ambulance. Hanamaru’s head was badly injured, blood is oozing out from the wound, and it shows no sign of stopping, Yoshiko tear off the hem of Hanamaru’s skirt to stop her bleeding.

“Hanamaru…please don’t die…please…’ Yoshiko pleads.

Present

Yoshiko falls on her knees, tears are falling down her cheeks “You…were pregnant at that time…why…why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was going to tell you that night…”

“You were pregnant…why…why didn’t I realize it sooner…” Yoshiko cried.

Hanamaru squatted next to Yoshiko, her hands tremble as she tried to reach out to Yoshiko. She slowly patted Yoshiko’s back. Yoshiko wailed into Hanamaru’s embrace. Hanamaru pulls Yoshiko closer into her arms as she took cries softly with Yoshiko. They could have been a happy family if it wasn’t for their foolishness.

They stay silent for a moment, until the sun has set, Hanamaru tries to push Yoshiko away from her because it’s late and they should go home but it seems like the older girl had fallen asleep in her embrace. A heavy lot feels like have been lifted from Hanamaru’s shoulder when she finally willing to forgive Yoshiko. She smiles and tapped on Yoshiko’s should try to wake her up.

“Yoshiko-chan, wake up, we can’t stay here too long, the weather is getting chilly…”

There was no response from Yoshiko, Hanamaru tries to shake the girl up but still no response.

“Yoshiko-chan?” there was worry in Hanamaru tone, she tries to shake the raven hair girl again, this time by shaking her violently but still no response. Hanamaru cupped Yoshiko’s face and seeing that the girl is pale, she checked on her pulse and there was barely any pulse. Hanamaru panics and she quickly takes out her phone and calls for ambulance.

“Yoshiko-chan!! Please don’t die yet…I want to live with you again, I want to have a family with you again…I love you Yoshiko-chan…please don’t leave me zura…” Hanamaru cried while cradling Yoshiko’s head in her arms.

Hospital

“Get ready the emergency room. She needs operation as soon as possible.” The doctor told the nurses.

“Is she gonna be alright?” Hanamaru asked.

The doctor looks at Hanamaru and she shakes her head, “I don’t know…but let’s pray for miracle.”

Hanamaru was left alone on the hallway to ponder on Yoshiko’s safety.

“Hanamaru!!” Kanan and Dia came running to their former’s sub unit member and they hugged her tightly to give her moral support “You okay?” Dia asked in concern voice.

Hanamaru couldn’t stop her tears from falling down, she looks at Kanan with teary eyes “What if she dies too? What if I lost her too?” Hanamaru cried into Kanan’s chest.

Mari pushed Kanan away and grabs Hanamaru by her shoulders and yells into Hanamaru’s face “You have to believe in her Hanamaru-chan! You have to believe in your Yohane!! I know she will fight through it because she always does when it comes to you.”

“Mari…”

“What Mari-san said is true Hanamaru-chan…Yoshiko will be okay. Beside they have found her a heart donor…”

“Riko…” Hanamaru look at Riko with apologetic looks in her eyes.

“Atsuko….please protect Yoshiko for me…” Hanamaru prays in her heart.

10 hours passed by, the operation room light is still on. Hanamaru hadn’t move from her seat at all, she clutches on Yoshiko’s coat tightly, hoping that Yoshiko scent can calm her down. Hanamaru is worry, she is worry that she might lost Yoshiko again, and she doesn’t want that, after years of distant herself from her own feeling. Her eyes feel heavy but she refuses to close them, she afraid, if she fallen asleep and when she awakes, she might end up with bad news and she doesn’t want that. The silence of the hospital hallway is deafening, it feels empty. The rest of the Aqours members wanted to stay with her till the surgery is done, but Hanamaru rejected their kind intention because she knows how tired they are. Hanamaru is slowly dozing off, but a soft foot step wakes her up and the smells of coffee fills the air somehow enlighten Hanamaru’s senses.

“Here, you need this…” You-chan said as she handed Hanamaru a cup of coffee.

“Thanks You-chan…” Hanamaru accepted with a smile

You seated herself next to Hanamaru. You saw that Hanamaru is trembling so she took off her jacket and wrapped it around Hanamaru. Hanamaru was surprise but she nodded her head to thank You for her kindness “I thought you were going back with the others You-chan…”

“Nah~ I applied 1 week for my vacation, so I’m gonna stay around for 1 whole week. Besides, it’s better if there’s someone be here with you now. You gonna need all the support that you need Hanamaru-chan.”

“I don’t know what to do anymore You-chan…I lost my child and now I am losing Yoshiko too…is this a way God punished me for being a jerk toward Riko and Yoshiko? Is this my punishment for punishing them?”

You was silent, she did not know how to answer Hanamaru’s question. You was the few Aqours members that knew about the history between Yoshiko and Hanamaru. She sympathizes with the brunette, matter fact she was so despise with Yoshiko when she learnt about what happened. You had always had feeling for Hanamaru, ever since the first time she saw her on first day of school, but she knows that there is no place for her in Hanamaru’s heart as the brunette had always being fixated on Yoshiko.

You pulls Hanamaru into her embrace, she kissed Hanamaru on the brunette’s temple “Everything is going to be okay…Yoshiko and Yohane will definitely survive that operation.”

Hanamaru always feels safe in You’s strong arms, You was the only person she can confide in whenever Ruby couldn’t be there for her. You had always been there by her side. Whenever the marine biologist had her time off duty, she will always go back to Numazu to visit Hanamaru. Hanamaru is grateful for having You around, but she was unaware of the ash brown hair girl’s feeling toward her. You doesn’t mind at all that her feelings are one sided, she is happy enough to be able to be there to support the brunette whenever she can.

“Go to sleep Hanamaru-chan, I’ll wake you up when Yoshiko comes out from the operation room.” You tries to assure Hanamaru that everything will be alright.

Hanamaru shakes her head “Yoshiko is fighting for her life in there…so I’m gonna stay awake until I’m sure that she wins the fight…”

You sighs and pat the brunette on the head “You are one stubborn girl aren’t you?”

Hanamaru smiles and lays her head on You’s shoulder. You intertwined their fingers together, and secretly she wishes the time could stop so she can stay like this with Hanamaru a little longer.

Can you tell me all myuse and aqours image girl? Like riko and umi for sevel and rin and hanamaru for sega. Is there more image girl beside them?

Myuse…I assume you mean µ’s? :^)

I unfortunately don’t know too much about µ’s image girls since I missed a majority of the promotions by the time that I joined the fandom (late 2015~early 2016). I only heard about things like the LL x Pizza Hut campaign after it had already ended.

I do know that Maki was voted as the poster girl for Watering Kissmint, and was featured in their CM along with “Angelic Angel” as the BGM. She’s the only µ’s image girl I know of besides the ones you already listed.

For Aqours:

Yoshiko was voted as the image girl for Numazu Gamers. She got a special illustration, which ended up as a Promo UR in SIF. Aikyan also got to be honorary manager for a day!

Hanamaru won the poll for Dengeki G’s cover girl back in the winter, and was featured on the February 2017 cover. I actually saw this exact issue when I was browsing a bookstore in Korea (I was abroad until February 2017), and had to heavily restrain myself from weebing out right in front of my cousin. :’)

You was voted as the LisAni girl, and was featured on its cover. Shukashuu was also featured in a video to thank the voters and shill the magazine, haha.

You also happened to win first place in the Winter Vacation election for a Promo UR on SIF (the heavily joked-about bikini snowboarding one), which was given out as a login bonus to celebrate 30 million players worldwide. Though, I suppose this isn’t really an image girl thing.

Unofficially, Hanamaru (and by extension, King/Kinchan) is connected to Noppopan promotions. After all, Hanamaru munched on Noppopan in the anime, and Kinchan is always picked to tear into a pack of it during niconamas.

Another unofficial connection would be You as the poster girl for the aquariums in the Numazu area, thanks to “Koi ni Naritai AQUARIUM”. You and Shukashuu are heavily associated with Uchicchii of Izu-Mito Sea Paradise in particular (just look at how many times Shukashuu mentions Uchicchii on her blog/Twitter account). I mean, it’s clear that even Uchicchii plays favorites - he personally wished You-chan a happy birthday, and IIRC Uchicchii was wearing a You-chan badge in one of the live SIF events he was a guest in.

Have been thinking about making another pilgrimage to Numazu next month since I got a mini-winter vacation. It's gotta be budget, so maybe just a daytrip. No staying at Mari's hotel (but I don't really want to go to Awashima anyway). Just in case I checked into how expensive Chika's ryokan is and it's reasonable but they only except reservations for two or more people.. haha.. ha..

I also really wanted to find the onsen from season 2 episode 2. But according to a fan blog the real one is a.) Not an accurate representation b.) Far from stations/busses and c.) Also in a ryokan which requires a reservation of 2 or more people...

*sinks down into the water*

(Funny thing though, the blog author was lamenting that the bird spout was only in the women's bath so he couldn't go visit it. Eheh. Score one for female fans.)

KanaRiko AU

Well further to this post, I’ve dug out this incomplete messy outline I have for this KanaRiko fic. It’s loosely inspired by the movie Kimi no Namae wa (which I highly recommend) when I watched it back in December. It would’ve been a decent-sized fanfic (8-9 chapters?) but no energy/time to actually write out OTL

Ramblings/outline for the 7 chapters below::

Riko waking up, feeling odd; she had toned muscles and felt taller… and had bigger bust too. She was also stunned by the scenery outside; she thought back on the last thing she remembered, that she had trouble playing her recital piece on piano, and the viola wasn't much help either so she tried painting for inspiration It didn't work... Or did it? She must have passed out and was now having this oddly realistic dream. She might as well take the opportunity since the scenery really was amazing She then learned the girl, whose body she now resided in, was called Kanan and lived with her grandfather at a diving shop on Awashima, an island near the small town of Uchiura. Kanan was currently taking leave from school since her grandfather was injured and there was no one else to look after him or the shop she made miso soup, one of the few dishes she was confident at, yet Grandpa was able to tell that it was different than usual. The kind elderly man only asked if she was feeling alright, which made her feel a bit more at ease in this foreign environment, dream or not. She tried to understand what her usual routine around the shop is, but she really had 0 experience about such things. Grandpa patiently went over her chores (he was even going to do it himself seeing she was confused, but Riko stopped him since he had to use a crutch) Later afternoon, two girls came to visit. You and Chika were very friendly, a different kind of friendly than Riko was used to. Sure everyone at Otonokizaka was incredibly kind and accepting, but they lacked this special warmth You & Chika were showing. Or perhaps they were only this kind because they were close friends with Kanan while Riko wasn’t especially close to any of her classmates? Either way, Riko truly enjoyed this dream, the sea was beautiful and she wanted to dive but can't because she didn’t know how; dream or not she didn’t want to endanger this body's rightful owner. She woke up the next day in her bed, confirming the fact she truly did dream. Her mom teased her “You’re not running to school today?” Riko was puzzled, even more so when classmates gave her strange looks at school, something about her playing with alpacas. A fellow art club member asked her if she was ‘back to normal’. She opened her sketchbook to find a simplistic and rather cute/chibi sketch of the sculpture. (Think of Suwawa’s art style) Riko didn’t remember having to sketch this yet though. She flipped to next page and was stunned to find “Wow, you're really talented, Riko-san! Sorry about that pic, but that's the most I can draw."

Kanan staring blankly at the canvas. Last time it was a sketchbook so she could at least joke about her doodle and get by, but how was she supposed to paint!! Her thoughts on Riko, who seemed to be by herself, no close friends which confused her because Riko was pretty, feminine and incredibly talented. This was also Otonokizaka too, the famed school that μ's attended, the holy land Dia always talked about. Also, it felt really nice to have a wholesome family meal with parents. She was slightly envious of Riko. The classroom atmosphere also made her realize that she missed school. “Well, you won’t know unless you try, like Chika’s always said!” She squeezed out a myriad of colors from the tubes and just went with her instincts. At the end, the advisor praised her for her new style of impressionist painting. She could only chuckle dryly. -------- Kanan waking up in her own body again, wondering about this phenomenon. While she had fun, this was really odd in the long run. Gramps did comment about her oddness yesterday again, meaning this Riko might have switched to her body. Kanan worried this might happen again, since Riko seemed to have a piano recital coming up and, well, she had absolutely no idea how to play it!!!

Riko reading the small paragraph in her sketchbook, agreeing with Kanan's concerns and was grateful that Kanan had written a few things to make note of at home. Apparently Kanan added a lot of seaweed and fish pieces in miso soup, the way the Matsuuras enjoyed it. It was a secret recipe so Kanan asked Riko not to tell anyone. Riko was flustered by the thought of ‘secret just between us’ but was then saddened by how she didn’t have anyone to share secrets with anyway. She would like to become friends with Kanan but quickly brushed away the idea. They needed to figure out a way to live as normally as possible until they figured out how and why this weird switch happened. She was bewildered at PE that she was selected to be basketball team captain?!?! And learned that apparently Kanan pulled quite a few… handsome moves yesterday, some even called her ikemen, much to her exasperation. A classmate even told her that Kanan (while in Riko’s body) accidentally kabedon’d someone. Riko had very mixed feelings about this. When she went home, she wrote down a few pointers on sticky notes at the door so Kanan would see them the first thing when she woke up after the switch. They needed to properly correspond and keep each other updated, and perhaps stop doing ‘extra things’. ---------------- Next day, Riko was back in Kanans’ body. She was much better with the chores around the shop today. She was pleased when Gramps didn't comment on the miso soup this time, since she cooked it the way Kanan instructed. A black-haired girl came, Riko thought she was a customer, so she smiled at her in greeting. The girl however asked "Who are you?" right off the bat. Riko stunned and nervous but tried to play cool. However the girl was adamant. "You are not Kanan-san." Gramps peeked out of the shop, smiling at her. "Oh Dia-chan! You've come to drop off notes for Kanan again? Ahh so much effort, I'm really grateful she has a friend like you! Come in for some tea!" Dia politely declined and pulled Riko away to the side and kabedon’d her. “Who are you? Where is Kanan-san?”

Kanan reading Riko's notes, and groaned. Apparently Dia scared Riko so much that she got teary, but at least that surprised Dia so much that she let the matter drop; Riko barely managed to convince Dia that she had a cold, so that was why she was acting weird. As if on cue, Dia called her just after her tea ceremony lesson. Kanan was really glad that this body switch thing is never consecutive otherwise the secret would be out for sure. Kanan really in a dilemma. She won't be able to play piano as Sakurauchi Riko, and Riko won't be able to take in customers who wanted to go diving. This can't go on for long, they must find a solution. ------- Riko blinking at the question in her sketchbook - Kanan asked to meet up, asking her if it was alright for Kanan to use her body to come to Uchiura the next weekend, so they can talk face to face, and finally meet for the first time.

Riko nervous but also excited about coming to Uchiura. Kanan met up with her at the Numazu Station, and unlike her, she seemed perfectly at ease. Riko admired how Kanan easily diffused the tension between them and introduced Uchiura to her as they rode the bus together. The scenery felt foreign yet also familiar. Riko found that they were similar in the way that they preferred not to stand out, yet Kanan had a special presence whether she wanted to or not. If she had to, she would compare Kanan to the sea - gentle, calm and accepting, yet with grand presence that captured her attention. Riko found herself hanging onto the taller girl’s every word as she talked about the various landmarks and about the sea. Even then, perhaps it was from the stress of all the body switches, Riko drifted off against Kanan’s shoulder -------- Kanan was nervous and tense. She hasn’t felt this uncertain for a long time. She tried to keep things as light-hearted as possible between them yet she couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable around Riko. Not in a bad way, at least Kanan didn’t think it was a bad thing. It’s just that Riko was a fashionable city girl, pretty and dainty, while she was this country girl who probably broke all rules of decorum by being so friendly and forward with Riko even though they were technically strangers. And now, Riko has fallen asleep against her shoulder and she has no idea what to do. Still, Kanan truly admired Riko’s courage to come down all the way from Tokyo. To be honest, Kanan has mixed feelings about finding a resolution to this body switch. She rather enjoyed getting to know Riko and didn’t want their connection to end. Carefully, she pulled Riko against her so that the latter’s head would rest more comfortably against her shoulder. Kanan indulged herself in feeling Riko’s presence beside her and decided to let Riko sleep until they reached their stop.

Kanan showing Riko around Awashima and took her diving. Kanan iwas very pleased by how much Riko enjoyed it, in spite of how nervous she was of the sea at first. She felt proud to be able to make Riko smile. Kanan then took her up to the Bentei Shrine, and explained that she would come here every day even though she didn’t avidly pray. Although, she did pray for her Grandpa’s recovery. She also confided in Riko that, when things got really rough one day, she actually came here to sulk, and fantasized what things would have been like if she had been born in a city, where everything was convenient. Riko could relate. She went to the Kanda Shrine too to pray for success from time to time. The last time she went there, she was so stressed from preparing for the piano recital that she fantasized about taking a vacation at a nice countryside with beautiful scenery. Kanan and Riko then concluded that their similar wishes might have caused the body switch; unbelievable, outlandish, but that was what actually happened. However, even with this discovery, they have no idea how to fix it.

Riko felt guilty - she actually felt relieved that this situation would have to continue on for a while until they somehow figured out the solution. She’d have an excuse to keep communicating with Kanan. After discussion, Riko agreed to stay overnight at Kanan’s place to see if they could witness something about the body switch. It was the weekend the next day, so it shouldn’t be a problem. At least, with Kanan around, the chores around the diving shop should be easier if they really did switch. After a nice dinner with Grandpa Matsuura (who teased Kanan about having a pretty ‘friend’ who came all the way from the city), Kanan took Riko back to the mountains but she took a different turn this time, to take Riko stargazing. (The telescope is named ‘Hainan 1’, given by Chika) It is during the stargazing that Riko realized that she has fallen in love with Kanan.

Japan: 05/11 - 17/11/17

During the past two weeks, I was travelling around in Japan to celebrate the successful completion of my Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree. In addition to the cities I visited during my first trip back in February (Numazu, Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo), I also dropped by the western seaside cities of Toyama and Kanazawa.

Not including my overnight stay at Narita Airport, I stayed in each city for two nights, which meant that I only had one full day to explore each city as much as I could (or felt like), with the rest of my days dedicated entirely to travelling between cities via either the Shinkansen or the express trains. This was not much of a problem for me, however - Kanazawa, my second stop of the trip, was only about 45 minutes or so away from Toyama via the Shinkansen, and I was already familiar enough with the other four cities to know what to check out immediately upon arrival.

If you’ve been paying attention to your Facebook and Instagram feeds, you would have seen the many pictures I took throughout the two weeks. What allowed me to take the pictures, however, was the fact that I decided to push myself (and my still very-limited novice-level Japanese skills) and put in the effort to explore the lesser-known path. The train ride from Takaoka to Himi in my search for a sardine-broth ramen awarded Bib Gourmand status? The pictures I took of the sea were worth the journey in itself. Hiking up a perilous single-lane mountain road to visit a series of Shinto shrines on the west side of Mt Kurama, just north of Kyoto? You could definitely imagine the sense of satisfaction and achievement I felt upon reaching the final shrine. Ditto for finding the shrine at the end of a treacherous 500m path leading to the top of the hill in the middle of Awashima Island (Shizuoka), just south of Numazu, on a rainy day.

Of course, the main difficulty with exploring the lesser-known path is that the further you go from a major city centre, the less likely you’ll find locals who can speak coherent basic English. As a language teacher and an emerging multilingual, this was a pretty interesting experience for me as I had to dig into my limited Japanese knowledge (for perspective, I’m somewhere between “novice” and “beginner”), and resorted to “translanguaging” (García & Wei 2014) in a few cases, communicating in a mix of simple English and broken Japanese in most cases. I even ended up translanguaging in English, Japanese, AND Mandarin with someone while waiting for a boat ride from Iwasehama back to Toyama.

Of course, I can’t forget the bar owned by an acquaintance in Osaka. The first time I visited the bar back in February, I got lost as I wasn’t sure which “Namba” station to get off, and ended up walking back and forth the place once I actually found the correct street. During my second visit to Osaka, however, I was able to find the place with ease.

What does this have to do with languages? The first night in Osaka during this most recent trip, I decided to drop by the bar to say “hi” to the owner, and to get a drink and some food. It turned out that the bar was hosting an international mixer night, and while I did end up making two new friends that evening, I also found myself speaking a bit of French with a couple of French people at the bar. The following night, I decided to bring one of my Japanese friends to the bar, and wound up helping a salaryman practise his English conversation skills over some alcohol.

Of course, with all the conversations happening, it was only natural that I would make new friends throughout my two-week vacation in Japan. That’s the wonderful thing about languages - it’s my personal philosophy that languages are a code to different cultures, and even a bit of knowledge of an additional language can help to break barriers between different people. I’m a reserved person by nature, and I admit that it’s usually difficult for me to make new friends. That said, by taking a chance in several situations, I was able to find myself in a position to at least overcome my nature and introduce myself.

In the end, it’s about taking that first step forward.
