july 23rd 2021, 10:31 PM, and the stars are brighter than usual tonight

the moon follows suit, too - as it shimmers like a spotlight in the sky, hand-in-hand with every star dancing beside it

it’s probably just a nova of some sort, nick assumes, or maybe the stars are glistening just for the two of you, he hopes

you and nick, who worked together as chefs in the kitchen, had been assigned to teach a class about the wonders of constellations in the night sky

and what better way to learn about them beforehand than to actually get a glimpse yourself?

with a raggedy blanket, your telescope, and some peanut butter butterpops, you and your friend were off into the forest 

as you blabber about your fascination with the night sky on the hike there, nick tries and fails miserably to gain control over his stuttering heart

but there is not a single, possible way this man could ever hide his undying crush on you

it’s so obnoxiously obvious by the way the counselors tease him for stuttering through his sentences and the red-hot blush that dusts his cheeks when you give him that perfect smile of yours

but… he’s just not good enough

he’s just generic nick, while you are sparkling, eccentric, alluring, all-too magnificent y/n l/n in all your heavenly glow

you are the sun in its full glory, but nick isn’t the moon, he’s not even a star and any sliver of confidence within him is put to shame at your side

you’re the personification of euphoria as you point to every star and tell him tales of the constellation's origin, but then you’re pure evil when you dare punish your vision by looking into his eyes

however, no matter how much his brain torments him, nick is in love with you and he teases the idea that this infatuation may just be what kills him

cassiopeia shimmers as you trace the shape with your finger, he’s looking at you

orion’s belt blinks while you usher him to use the telescope, he’s still looking at you

canis major twinkles, he can’t take his eyes off of you

“watch out!” your eyes blow wide as you shove him away and into the dirt, something animalistic crawling on top of you while it grunts and growls

the creature on top of you is horrifying

its limbs far too long to be human, its teeth ready to dig into its dinner, its eyes glowing like the stars you were just admiring

nick can’t even process the heart-stopping and overwhelming fact that you just saved his life before he acts

he holds the bulky flashlight in his hands, “get the fuck away from them!” shouts into the midnight air as he plunges the object into the skull of the creature

it whimpers and rolls off you and begins writhing like a dying cockroach, all before it abruptly lunges at the assailant

a wail escapes from nick's throat as a fountain of blood begins to spur from his neck, both of you beginning to scream like bloody murder

it was all a mess of sharp nails and honed teeth, and as nick lies there, bleeding while his flesh is carved into by this beast above him, he feels… elated

to die at your side and to die for you, there is no other way he’d rather go out

however, the beast let out an ear-piercing shriek after you thrust a loose twig into its throat, then scurries off into the forest

the silence left after its departure was deafening, but is then broken by the sudden appearance of a concerned ryan who rushed over upon hearing the uproar

you hurry over and tackle the boy into a hug, unaware of how something within a half-conscious nick dies as he watches the scene play out before him

he’s out like a light before he can pull himself together and claim what’s his, but soon awakens in a delirious state back in the lodge

“easy, man! chill out, will you?” kaitlyn scolds him, and in his dazed condition, he begins to panic and thrash about in his stance

“y/n… where…?” he mumbles while he pushes kaitlyn’s hands off his form in a fruitless attempt to escape her hold

all that flickered through his mind were those teeth and those heart-shattering screams of yours, and then, there was the memory of you saving his life and how the mere recollection could probably heal all of his wounds with its sheer power

“woah there, cowboy. you were just mauled by a bear, your summer love can wait” kaitlyn jokes, guiding the lovesick boy to lie back down

“no… where’s y/n? i need to… need to… need to save y/n.” he slurs out as he becomes more aggressive in his endeavors to escape

however, something sharp… something metallic hits his nose

across the hem of kaitlyn's sweatshirt is blood

your blood

nick’s nails, much sharper than ordinary, sink into the girl’s wrist as he uses both his hands to pull the stain to his nose, inhaling deeply and exhaling with a quavering whimper

the poor girl tries to wrangle herself from nick’s firm grip, but her attempts were merely futile

“nick! what the-!?“ “shut the fuck up, kaitlyn!” nick’s shout was muffled into her shirt sleeve but was assertive enough to reverberate against the lodge walls and strike fear into kaitlyn’s heart

he is blinded by pure desire; his inhales grow deeper with every breath as if he scenting what he thought to be you

“i said get the fuck away from-!” kaitlyn’s demand is cut short as nick practically flings her across the room in an enraged hysteria

he twists his nose in utter disgust at the sudden new scent that permeates the room, then finds kaitlyn lying wrangled on the floor, blood beginning to seep and pool around her

and as much as he knows he should… he doesn’t care

nick doesn’t care at all; you are all that matters right now

upon hearing the shouts and collision, you and ryan rush out of the nurse’s office to identify the sudden commotion

there you are, and for a mere moment, nick has found clarity amidst this mess, before it is robbed from him once he makes eye contact with ryan

ryan…

you’re with… ryan?

nick doesn’t know where this sudden feeling of pure hatred has come from, but the thought of him standing by your side - god forbid him putting his hands on you again - he doesn’t know what to do with himself

something primal bubbles within nick at the mere idea, and no matter how hard he tries, he can’t calm himself down

the room is dead silent, all that can be heard are the huffs of enragement and the grinding of teeth emanating from nick

“THEY’RE MINE!!” his eyes glimmer in a hue of gold for a mere second, and a bestial growl erupts from his throat before he charges at the male

nausea then builds in your stomach upon the scene before you: ryan, thrashing against the male on top of him as an inhuman nick claws and tears his teeth into another helpless victim

everything is red

screams and growls have faded into nothingness, the metallic scent of fresh blood is appalling and unadulterated terror pumps like a drug through your veins

and with that, you’re off

you’re off into the night and into the foggy forest of hackett’s quarry, not daring to turn and check if that rabid creature was intending on turning you into his dessert

the pain of loose sticks and pungent leaves scraping and cutting onto your form goes unnoticed, not when there's adrenaline racing through your entire body

you don’t know where you even intend to go, just far, far away from the horrors you had just witnessed

with tears seeping down your cheeks, you feel your legs begin to weaken beneath you and your running pace begins to decelerate

you let your body rest and come to a halt, catching your breath by leaning against a tree

as you look up to your left, you catch sight of what looks to be a cave of some sort

what was once used as an entryway for miners long ago has now become a hiding spot to shield yourself from the vicious creature that was once your close friend

you crouch down and muffle your hyperventilating breaths with your sleeve, waiting for what felt like days for something to happen

you waited for nick to greet you into your demise, or for some creepy cop to save you from this nightmare

and then… you hear it

twigs crunching beneath someone’s weight, inhuman growls filling the late-night ambiance

his figure marches into your train of vision as he begins sniffing the air like a drug-detecting canine beside a junkie

and then, his eyes turn towards your direction and your once pacing heart practically stops within your chest

there’s no way he can see you, it’s far too dark out here

he couldn’t possibly find you in such abysmal darkness… right?

a claw then impales into your ankle and drags you from your vain attempt at hiding, all while your helpless shouts echo throughout the woodland

you reach to find some sort of weapon to use against your aggressor, but your attempts were to no avail

and now there’s a man with golden eyes, whetted claws, and sharp teeth sat on top of you, face nestled into the base of your neck, shakily inhaling like some pervert

“nick…” you cry out, feeling the vibration of his grunt tremble against your skin upon hearing you say his name

“oh, y/n…” you can hear the smile in his words, “you have no idea all the fucking things you do to me…”

july 24th, 2021, 1:34 AM, and as you stare up into the night sky, you realize nick was right

After a dark sky hibernation, my first jaunt up to Fahnestock State Park was just what I needed to shake out the rust, and get back to some dark sky observing before the Amateur Astronomers Association of NY kicks off it’s observing season.

After getting there, we all quickly realized it wasn’t going to be 70° forever, leaving me longing for warmer underwear. That was interrupted when a bolide came streaking eastward, and we were off to the races.

Ring, Dumbbell, and Planetary nebulae. Also, my first ever look at the Veil Nebula. Then clusters; M13, M92, M56, M52, Horseshoe, Christmas Tree, Beehive, Berenice’s – so. many. stars.

And while spotting the Sombrero and Sunflower Galaxies were amazing, nothing compared to photographing M81 and M82 for the first time with my Canon M50. This is, by far, my crowning achievement. Until I photographed the Cassiopeia Nova (V1405) with my iPhone. I suppose we can call it a tie.

Equipment: Celestron 6SE, Canon M50, iPhone XR. Lots of eyepieces, and lots of coffee. Edited in PS Express.

A Bright Nova in Cassiopeia : What’s that new spot of light in Cassiopeia? A nova. Although novas occur frequently throughout the universe, this nova, known as Nova Cas 2021 or V1405 Cas, became so unusually bright in the skies of Earth last month that it was visible to the unaided eye. Nova Cas 2021 first brightened in mid-March but then, unexpectedly, became even brighter in mid-May and remained quite bright for about a week. The nova then faded back to early-May levels, but now is slightly brightening again and remains visible through binoculars. Identified by the arrow, the nova occurred toward the constellation of Cassiopeia, not far from the Bubble Nebula. A nova is typically caused by a thermonuclear explosion on the surface of a white dwarf star that is accreting matter from a binary-star companion -- although details of this outburst are currently unknown. Novas don't destroy the underlying star, and are sometimes seen to recur. The featured image was created from 14 hours of imaging from Detroit, Michigan, USA. Both professional and amateur astronomers will likely continue to monitor Nova Cas 2021 and hypothesize about details of its cause. via NASA

This is Nova Cassiopeia 2021! ✨✨✨

This bright nova, at the center of this image, became almost 3 magnitudes brighter in mid-March and has been a common subject of observations in the past few months. It was caused by a white dwarf stripping its mass off of its binary partner, until it explodes due to an immense release of energy! 💥💥💥

A supernova is a massive explosion that occurs at the end of a star's life. The Chandra X-ray Observatory, a sophisticated space telescope, captured the aftermath of such an explosion in the constellation Cassiopeia.

This photo shows the X-ray radiation emitted from the Tycho supernova remnant, first spotted in 1572.

On March 18, 2021, a Japanese amateur astronomer, Yuji Nakamura, spotted a new (new to us Earthlings, anyway) nova in the Cassiopeia constellation, dubbed Nova Cas 2021.

space boy, show me the stars you know the galaxies of my heart (from 'space girl' by frances forever)

when ian was little, monica used to take them to the science museum sometimes. while lip rambled to fiona about all the different exhibits, ian was solely lost in the stars.

in the planetarium, ian swore he was weightless. like he felt the infinity. lip had once told him that infinity meant really, really big, and ian felt really, really big.

monica would stretch out under the stars with him and point out the different constellations. cassiopeia was the queen with unrivaled beauty, but ian thought his mom was even prettier.

the only birthday party ian had wanted for his 7th year around the sun was a space themed party. fiona made little alien costumes for baby debs and carl, who looked absolutely ridiculous. ian's cake was a rocket ship, designed by lip with candles meticulously placed for lift off.

lip tried to understand his obsession, listening to ian talk about the stars for what seemed like hours. one afternoon, he came home and stuck little plastic stars on their ceiling. at nights when ian couldn't sleep, he would count the stars and think of his big brother. it helped.

supernovas. black holes. galaxies. big planets. small planets. but they all had their place in the universe. like the gallaghers all had their place in their family.

over the years, it became family tradition to watch cosmos together. at first, it was the only show that ian would pay attention to. but soon enough, everyone was hooked, even kev and v from next door. ian was thankful for his own little solar system.

when ian first met the gruff boy with the dark hair, it felt like his universe had shifted, aligned, in some way. he didn't understand it at first, but he was pulled to him in ways he had never known.

he spent hours gazing into the boy's eyes. so blue. they reminded him of neptune. neptune may be the coldest planet in the solar system, but with mickey, all ian felt was warmth.

some nights, out in the old baseball dugouts, ian would take note of the phases of the moon. ian hoped that mickey's amiability wouldn't just be a phase. he didn't think he could take it if it was.

"you wanna lay out a blanket and look for shooting stars next?"

he did.

on ian's birthday one year, mickey had took him to the rooftop of the abandoned building they frequented. that was nothing new. what was new was the metallic contraption. mickey. "you like it?" "mickey, that's a fucking telescope." "i know what it is, dipshit, we stargazing tonight or what?"

sometimes the club lights in boystown reminded ian of the cosmos.

on one of the occasions when ian's mind turned itself into a black hole, mickey took him outside. it was cold. mickey covered him with as many blankets as he could, but it wasn't enough to warm the chill of his heart. he sat still as they watched the moon and mickey told stories about what he would do if he lived up there, if they lived up there together.

when mickey was gone, he spent a lot of time with the stars thinking about what could have been. he wondered if the stars he was looking at were long dead or still burning bright. he thought he understood what lightyears felt like.

"you ever think, back in the day, this is where we'd be?"

gazing at the moon by the mexican border wasn't too unlike gazing at the moon in chicago. but it felt different, he was split. he silently begged the universe for a sign. he wasn't sure if he heard one.

sitting on his mother's grave, lone in the cemetary, ian stared up at the stars again. he hoped monica was dancing up there with cassiopeia.

ian thought he heard the universe talk to him. he wanted so badly to listen. he needed help. he couldn't do this on his own.

he wouldn't.

on the eve of his wedding night, ian thanked the lucky stars for how they aligned.

in their new home, ian watched as the moonlight glinted off the metallic rings shared by him and his husband. saturn ain't got nothing on them.

ian and mickey sat on their back porch leaned up against each other, watching the dog chase their kid around their yard. ian laughed as his daughter carefully brought him a firefly she had caught in her tiny hands, "look daddy! a star bug!" "very cool, nova! why don't you catch one for dad?" mickey rolled his eyes. he wasn't a fan of bugs, no matter how much they glowed.

ian had always been a stargazer, but mickey. mickey was the one who had truly showed him the stars. what it meant to love so blindingly and bright. what it meant to feel warm and safe in the cold. what it meant to shine in the darkness. he lit up his whole galaxy.

In addition to Pokeships Hitman!AU:

Giovanni is always dragging Cyrus away from his set up to make sure he eats, sleeps, takes care of himself. Cyrus has no bed at their “headquarters” since he just uses Giovanni’s.  Cyrus likes to mock and back talk Giovanni for his “old school” methods...but deep down will replay them on loop when alone.  Maxie and Archie will fight for like an hour before agreeing on the proper disposal methods. (There is a lovely garden outside the “headquarters” thanks to their handy work)

Lysandre is INCREDIBLY particular to his poison setup. He knows when somebody’s been messing around in his lab. 

Guzma actually doesn’t stay at the “headquarters” since he has responsibilities with Plumeria by helping out trainers who’ve dropped out and runaways. (Plumeria knows what he does, and is just glad he is excused from any of the much darker dealings) 

Augustine will be sent out with Lysandre as an alibi on assignments.

2021 starting strong since I wanted to get some of the unfinished sketches done.

Thought it would be fun to play with colored lines-originally I was just going to outline everything in blue but went “No! Have J be green!”

Nova- That “W” looking one. That’s Cassiopeia.  J- Ah! I remember seeing that one many nights at sea.

Nova- Part of the Milky Way actually runs through it. 

J- I see...What else can you tell me? Nova- Many actually! I consider it one of my favorites!

Novas don't destroy the underlying star, and are sometimes seen to recur. The featured image was created from 14 hours of imaging from Detroit, Michigan, USA. Both professional and amateur astronomers will likely continue to monitor Nova Cas 2021 and hypothesize about details of its cause.

Bubble Nebula & Nova Cassiopeia 2021 - Discovered March 18, 2021, the new Nova in the constellation Cassiopeia is still bright another to distinguish itself as something a little different when imaged or viewed through a telescope. Now designated V1405 Cas, it is close both the Bubble Nebula - NGC 7635 and M52. Ever since I heard of its its discovery I wanted to image it, especially since it was discovered on my late father's birthday. With it rising in the Northeast, I finally had a clear night where it qas above the houses and trees. First three images are finally processes - normal, starless and inverted. There's a new nova in the sky, and it's brightening

On March 18, Japanese amateur astronomer Yuji Nakamura (who must have a seriously keen eye) spotted something within the constellation Cassiopeia that did not show up on any star maps. In fact, at magnitude +9.6, it was at least 20 times brighter than anything ever spotted at that location.

It was confirmed shortly afterwards by the University of Kyoto, and by the spectrum of it, it is most likely a classical nova. Now it’s called Nova Cas 2021.

At last check, late on March 19, it had brightened to magnitude +7.5. That’s a quick increase in brightness of 6 or 7 times since its discovery less than 48 hours earlier. That means it can be spotted quite easily with binoculars and is approaching the point (magnitude +6.0 or so) where it can be spotted with the naked eye. I haven’t seen any data posted over the weekend on it, but I’d imagine we’ll see some more early this upcoming week. ...

Hoje não fiz marcações de horários porque ando mais para lá do que para cá com a minha vida e com as anotações que costumava fazer. Tenho me sentido preso dentro de mim mesmo e a frustração está me invadindo a ponto de me matar afogado a qualquer instantes. Talvez soe dramático, mas é proposital porque eu não sei lidar com isso e estou usando a maneira mais fácil.

Eu nem deveria estar me justificando para mim mesmo ou para essas folhas pardas aqui, acho que tudo é reflexo do que eu estou vivendo e sentindo ultimamente, então... que chova drama e tudo mais. Tem sido cansativo guardar tudo e quero me soltar, desprender logo.

Passei a tarde toda no ateliê de artes e ofícios para aprender alguma coisa nova, distrair a mente. Descobri que tenho um interesse por escultura e arrisquei fazer uma para que fosse um presente... mudei de ideia porque não quero parecer um idiota depois de tudo. Ainda amadurecendo a ideia e sei lá, quem sabe um dia?

Depois do jantar, passei um bom tempo conversando com Teressa sobre o dia a dia e marcando um treino para hoje a noite que nunca aconteceu porque todo mundo estava ocupado com questões particulares. Fui falar com Mia mas ela não estava em casa.

Quando voltei para a entrada, descobri que Felice e Teressa estavam agindo para me juntar com o Edoardo ou coisa do tipo; ainda não entendi qual é a do momento. Quando ele se foi, trocamos beijos na bochecha que ainda não sei se é um jogo deles ou uma brincadeira; só espero rir no final também.

Conversas, risadas, flertes em meio a brincadeiras... assim o tempo foi passando de modo a me torturar a cada segundo. Cassiopeia apareceu e pude curar uma curandeira na frente de todos! Fiquei feliz porque, finalmente, estou melhorando nas artes de cura... sozinho.

Então, Narkissa e Cain chegaram e trocamos palavras rápidas antes de começarem a pegar no meu pé sobre eu ter sido juntado em um novo casal ou sobre "brincar de médico" por aí (e só levar dano, podem acrescentar, pessoal!). Eu estava de boa até ouvir a pergunta da filha de Thanatos, que foi o estopim para mim; a frustração me corrói mas ainda não sei onde está o problema.

Se eu quero tanto gritar assim, por que eu não tenho mais voz?

Kraliçe’deki bu yeni ışık noktası nedir? Bir nova. Novalar evrenin her yanında sıklıkla gerçekleşse de, Nova Cas 2021 ya da V1405 Cas olarak bilinen bu nova, Dünya göklerinde geçtiğimiz ay o kadar sıra dışı şekilde parlaklaştı ki çıplak gözle görülür hale geldi. Nova Cas 2021 ilk olarak Mart’ın ortalarında parlaklaştı, ama daha sonra, Mayıs’ın ortalarında beklenmedik biçimde daha da parlak oldu ve yaklaşık bir hafta boyunca oldukça parlak kaldı. Nova daha sonra Mayıs’ın başlarındaki durumuna sönükleşti, ama şimdilerde yine hafifçe parlaklaşıyor ve dürbünle görünür olmaya devam ediyor. Okla gösterilen nova, takımyıldız Kraliçe (Cassiopeia) yönünde, Kabarcık Nebulası’na çok da uzak olmayan bir yerde gerçekleşti. Bir nova genelde, bir çift yıldız yoldaştan madde biriktiren bir beyaz cüce yıldızın yüzeyindeki termonükleer patlamadan kaynaklanır, ama bu püskürmenin detayları henüz tam olarak bilinmiyor. Novalar alttaki yıldızı yok etmezler ve kimi zaman tekrarladıkları görülür. Bu görsel, Michigan, Detroit’ten yapılan 14 saatlik görüntülemeyle oluşturuldu. Hem profesyonel hem de amatör astronomlar muhtemelen Nova Cas 2021’i izlemeye ve sebeplerinin detayları hakkında varsayımda bulunmaya devam edecekler.

This Week's Sky at a Glance, November 5 – 13

“Nova Cassiopeiae 2021 is still magnitude 8.4 as of November 5th, more than 7 months after it erupted. Charts and comparison stars. Friday, November 5.  At dusk this week, the Jupiter-Saturn line in the southern sky tilts only mildly, as shown below. Look far to their lower right for bright Venus. As evening progresses, Venus sets and the tilt of the giants steepens. The Summer Triangle Effect. Here it is early November, but Deneb still shines near the zenith as the stars come out. And brighter Vega is still not far from the zenith, toward the west. The third star of the ‘Summer’ Triangle, Altair, remains very high in the southwest (high upper right of Jupiter and Saturn). They seem to have stayed there for a couple months! Why have they stalled out? ...”
