The Barbie Movie.

A small, non-comprehensive list of things that stood out to me (spoilers? Kind of?)

The soundtrack

All the jokes that played off of what it was actually like to play with barbies (the pool & ocean being flat, the cups having no drinks in them, the shower having no water, etc.

TRANS BARBIE

The choreography

The "I Am Kenough" tie-dye sweater

Barbies of many shapes and sizes! All very beautiful!

THE ENDING, OH MA LORD. Both the way the story concluded really beautifully, but also the ending joke that no one was prepared for—

Just... everything about Ryan Gosling's performance

Kate McKinnon playing the deranged, "ugly" Barbie

In the same vein, that movie would NOT have been complete without representing the kids who played with their dolls "too hard" (cutting their hair, bending them in weird ways, etc.)

Acknowledging that Barbie did in fact mean a lot to some girls. This movie was geared towards everyone, whether you grew up loving Barbie or hating her.

The mom and her daughter

The fact that when Barbie was starting to become "defective" and/or when she was in the real world, you could start to see her ""flaws"". Like I noticed in some scenes her eyebrows were unplucked and no longer perfectly sculpted, or her skin no longer perfectly smooth with foundation.

It was clear that SO much thought and research was put into this. I couldn't believe how many references there were to specific clothing items, certain playsets, etc.

The fact that Barbie and Ken DIDN'T end up together, and that Barbie DIDN'T indulge Ken in his flirtations (is that a word?) even once

THE FACT THAT I WAS SO CLOSE TO ACTUAL TEARS LIKE SEVEN TIMES???? LIKE WHAT????

The weird dark humor coming out of nowhere

The fact that Barbie never once looked at the human women (who were "imperfect" in comparison to her) with disgust

......the moment between her and the woman on the bench 😭😭😭

The mom's rant about how hard it is being a woman (esp a mother) and how you can never win 🙌🙏

The misogyny in the Real World was so well done. It wasn't overexaggated or over the top it was just NORMAL EVERYDAY LIFE

THE JOKE ABOUT HAVING A MAN SIT YOU DOWN TO TALK ABOUT THE GODFATHER ASDJGKDLW

The moment where I went "OH so THAT'S where the mugshot memes came from"

Been trying to stay away from LMK season 4 spoilers until the English dub comes out. I've seen a lot of non-spoiler rants about Sun Wukong and that a lot of people don't like his character anymore after season 4. Now I don't really know what is going and I know damn well he made a lot of mistakes in season 3. But but please don't be mean to him, he only baby. Hopefully it is not as bad as everyone says, but I guess I'll have to wait.

Non-spoiler Rotb thoughts

So yeah, I watched Transformers rise of the beasts and I can't stop thinking about it ever since, as per usual with transformers.

I'm very happy with the movie, I'm still feeling the excitement. Was it perfect? No, of course. But was it fun? A lot!

The first time I watched it I went with my friends, who kept laughing at Mirage's jokes, and it warmed my heart. I took them to the cinema hoping it wasn't terrible, and I'm happy to say it was entertaining.

You can tell the movie is definitely different from the others, which is good. I specially like the fact that we had likable human characters with just about the necessary screen time.

I also appreciated how there were interactions between the transformers, which, if you think about it, it's pretty sad to say that we didn't get much in other movies.

I have many other thoughts about the movie, but basically, this movie is a step in the right direction. Bayverse movies were fun and all when I was a kid, and I still like them for what they are, but I crave for a proper movie like this one. Characters with personalities, proper interactions between them...

The argument is the usual, but I'm not gonna complain cause it turned out good.

I expected less, but I hoped for more, but I'm overall very happy, so please go watch the movie!

Things I Appreciated about Puss in Boots: The Last Wish bc I need to rant just a tiny bit

Below the cut is one (1) spoiler. Everything else is spoiler-free (other than the gifs themselves I guess).

The different styles of animation. I will never tire of the choppy, comic-book look that I see people generally refer to as the "Spiderverse" style. It has an almost anime-feel that is just so much more visually interesting.

On the same note, the absolutely S T U N N I N G visuals. I'm sad I won't be in the theaters every time I watch it in the future.

The fight choreography. Again, something about it feels very akin to anime. It's over-the-topin dramatic in such a lovely way.

Having an enjoyable "sidekick". I feel like I'm usually annoyed by the side character that's supposed to be the tag-along comic relief (Olaf, for example). I will admit that although I had to resist a groan when Perrito was first introduced, I genuinely loved him by the end. I don't even like chihuahuas but I would die for this dog.

The slightly aged-up humor. They knew their audience. It caught me off guard a couple times but never was too much.

The Spanish!!!! So much of it!!! Unapologetically!!! (I also felt very accomplished in that I could understand most of it, even if it was mostly Spanish 1 Spanish lol)

The tiny/subtle moments of mental health awareness. Don't even get me started on That One Scene in the middle of the film. You know what I'm talking about.

A badass villain. An antagonist who doesn't need a background or sob story to be enjoyable (that being said, I still LOVE Jack Horner and the story we get with him).

A whole slew of fun and interesting secondary antagonists and supporting characters! I was not prepared for criminal Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I certainly was not prepared to love the Jiminy Cricket character as much as I did.

The resolution. The fact that the final battle ended in a sort of "draw"(?) Obviously you want PIB to win, but it also wouldn't make much sense for him to defeat Death. I feel like this was the best possible ending.

The references. I love that you can watch this movie without having watched the original PIB movie or even any of the Shrek franchise. But then there are so many little moments that reference back to those films, it's like a little extra treat if you notice them.

what show should I cover next?

For those who don't know me, I am using this account to watch shows and review them. There'll be episode-by-episode reviews and season wrap-ups, along with some other things hopefully-- see my introduction post for more info.
