Buggy the Clown - It's getting expensive.
Tumblr media
Warning : spoilers for opla only
Genre : fluff
Synopsis : “Ok, so funny thought based off of sugar daddy! reader but imagine when buggy joins the cross guild and reader just looks at crocodile and Mihawk for a minute before asking buggy, if they need to pay them as well. Because reader can tell that Mihawk and crocodile are expensive bishes. It would be funny watching all their reactions to this especially crocodile and Mihawk since someone is offering to spoil them because I can see crocodile immediately going no in the most deadpan voice and I'm cackling over it.” - anon
Reader : male (you/yours)
A/N : Part ONE
Tumblr media
Buggy didn't really want you to meet them. Despite acting like they were all good friends in front of you, he knew they would very quickly reveal the truth if you ever met them.
Yet, this day had to happen.
“God, you have a lot of people working for you now.” You said with a smile, looking at all the pirates wearing his Jolly Roger happily.
Buggy puffed his chest proudly, laughing a bit.
“Of course. That's only what I deserve !”
You grin and nod, walking inside the ship to get to his quarters. As you get in, you spot them. Mihawk and Crocodile.
“Shit.” Buggy thought.
You stared at them, Buggy pushing you forward in hope to get you to his quarters but you refused to walk. Their bounty appeared before your eyes.
Crocodile 1,965,000,000 berries.
Mihawk 3,590,000,000 berries.
A total of 8,744,000,000 berries with Buggy.
Damn.
“Do I have to pay them as well ?” You ask with curiosity, eyes shining, pointing to Mihawk and Crocodile as you walk toward them.
“What !?” Buggy yelled, stopping you from walking further as Crocodile raised an eyebrow, Mihawk staring at you too surprised to say anything.
“Pay us ?” They thought.
“Why would you pay them !?” Buggy whispers-yelled to you.
“Aren't they with you ?” You simply replied, not caring about being discreet.
That's where it clicked for them. You were Buggy's… boyfriend / sugar daddy.
“No.” Said Crocodile. “We aren't.” His tone was cold, almost disgusted by your supposition.
“This is just a partnership.” Added Mihawk but you stared at him as if it didn't clear anything up and he sighed already tired by this conversation. “It's just an organization.”
“Oh.” You tilted your head to the side. “I thought you were all a thing.” You laughed. “That would've been expensive, ahah !”
“We gathered.” Said Mihawk, walking away. He had heard enough, and didn't want to inflict himself with you two any longer.
Buggy grabbed you by the collar, shaking you roughly while crying, yelling unintelligible things.
“Huh ? I don't understand what you're saying…” You said, which seemed to make things worse. Thought you managed to catch the essence “Me with them ? Scary.”
“Alright, alright. Let's go.” You say, now pushing him to his quarters, Buggy too upset about what you thought to walk on his own.
You continued pushing him until you arrived in his room and as soon as you closed the door Buggy yelled, falling on you with all his weight, making you fall on the bed.
“I lied !” He sobbed, throwing his hands in the air before grabbing you by the shoulders and shaking you. “They're not my subordinates !”
You blinked. That, you had guessed.
“We're even less a fucking thing !” He yelled now angry before returning to his sobbing state, grabbing you by the collar once again.
“They accepted me as the leader but I don't know why !”
“They-”
“They beat me up after the Cross Guild pamphlet got out ! As if I had a say in it !” He exclaimed. “And they beat me up again after seeing the ship ! They hung my head on Crocodile's hook by the hair !” He sobbed again, trying to make you understand the true dynamic between them, rubbing his face against your shirt, smearing snot and tears over it. “All that because they didn't like the ship my subordinates maaade ! It wasn't my fault they got carried away, these dumbasses ! I almost got sold into slavery ! Me !”
“What !? Are you okay ?” You asked, grabbing his face.
“I'm fine.” He sniffed. “I need more than that to be killed !” He smiled confidently through the tears.
“I'm gonna have a talk with them.” You announced, pushing him away and standing up, ready to walk out before Buggy grabbed you, pulling you back down.
“No !” He pleaded sobbing again. “They'll do the same to you ! Don't you understand !?”
You sighed. He was right. They are pirates after all. And a bit unpredictable at that.
“Buggy… Be careful.” You said, grabbing his face again.
“Tell that to the idiots who made the pamphlet and the ship ! I swear I wasn't behind it !”
“Okay, okay, I get it.” You kissed his forehead, wrapping your arms around him.
“What do you want to do then ?” You ask, fingers combing through his long hair.
“This is nice here.” He replied, rubbing his cheek against you. “Let's stay here.”
“Okay.”
For a moment, you two say nothing, enjoying each other's presence and closeness, the silence only broken by his sniffing.
“You really thought I was seeing other people ?”
You shrugged.
“Not really. But since they work with you and as you told me you were the bestest of friends, I thought maybe it was like a pack.”
“A pack !?”
“Yeah. Take one, get two more.”
“We aren't a deal you can buy !”
“I kind of bought you. ‘Buy my time’ you said. And I did.” You kissed the top of his head and he grimaced, annoyed.
“That's different.”
“Not really.”

Let's (re)Read The Eye of the World! Chapter 30: Children of Shadow
Tumblr media
Spoiler alert: So many Wheel of Time spoilers are to come. You should go somewhere else if they bother ya. Too tired to make a longer spiel today.
The chapter icon this time is the Whitecloak's sigil, which checks out because guess who shows up to be awful this chapter?
“A blind man could read your face, boy. Well, speak up. Do you hate the girl? Despise her? That’s it. You were ready to kill her because you despise her, always dragging her feet, holding you back with her womanish ways.”
Elyas is such a weird fucking mentor. He knows damn well what Perrin's emotions were at the time, none of which were hatred. I guess he was planning on explaining to Perrin he had no right to decide this kind of thing, except Perrin's come to this conclusion on his own. So that saves time!
Perrin hefted the axe in his hands, still tempted to leave it in the pool. Easy for him to say wait. What if I wait and then can’t throw it away?
Worse still, what if you wait so long that the axe stops being an exclusive metaphorical symbol of your violent corruption so your throwing it away means nothing because you continue on your path of blind vengeance with no restraint or respect for morality? Because that's what's going to happen, Mr. Slavery-Is-Okay-When-I-Profit-Off-It.
But points for asking, and I guess it makes your reluctance to be a wolf shaman a little more understandable because you associate the two. It really is the narration's fault you end up where you do.
“Dapple says they smell wrong. It’s . . . sort of the way a rabid dog smells wrong.”
Whitecloak lovers take note.
We’ll shelter in Artur Hawkwing’s hand. Maybe some of his justice is left here.
Sadly, rather like late series Perrin, Hawkwing couldn't ever throw away the axe. Metaphorically speaking, it's really no surprise that a prospective Aes Sedai and a werewolf can't find shelter by him.
Light, he thought wonderingly, she’s trying to comfort me.
You are the emotional and hysterical one in this partnership. Though hey, I'll skip back a bit to give you credit for the kind of good insight that you really need to display more often:
People don’t see what they don’t expect.
Y'all ever see that video of the people throwing basketballs around and then a dude in a gorilla costume is running around in the background? Perrin hasn't and he still understands the lesson it taught me. Sadly, you're dealing with paranoid assholes, so they in fact expect enemies at every corner.
“There is something up there,” one of them said. His voice was too loud, as if he was afraid of what lay outside the light of his torch. “I told you somebody could hide in that. Isn’t that a horse?”
Really, between Perrin's empathy magic, scary familiars, and people-based reality warping, he should have really graduated to being a horrifying take on Batman that made most of his enemies ask dumb questions like this right before being eviscerated or at least tied up or something if he insisted on keeping Batman's no killing policy.
Out of the night Hopper came, and Perrin was one with the wolf. Hopper, the cub who had watched the eagles soar, and wanted so badly to fly through the sky as the eagles did. The cub who hopped and jumped and leaped until he could leap higher than any other wolf, and who never lost the cub’s yearning to soar through the sky.
Remember literally seven chapters ago when we were told wolf names were only impressions imperfectly translated into words? Turns out that Hopper's name is given to him for the exact sorts of reasons that all sorts of folks throughout history were given verby names and as such perfectly encapsulates him!
It seemed a kindly face, bluff and dignified, and something about it fit the elegant austerity of the tent’s furnishings. A table and a folding bed, a washstand with a plain white basin and pitcher, a single wooden chest inlaid in simple geometric patterns. Where there was wood, it was polished to a soft glow, and the metal gleamed, but not too brightly, and nothing was showy. Everything in the tent had the look of craftsmanship, but only someone who had watched the work of craftsmen—like Master Luhhan, or Master Aydaer, the cabinetmaker—would see it.
This is how we know that Geofram is a reasonable authority figure who does not represent the average Whitecloak, naturally. This reinforces a lot of his stuff about belief and order giving strength - normally the Whitecloaks are all zealotry without any real guide but their whims. But Geof here takes care of his shit.
“Nine men dead, my Lord Captain, and twenty-three injured, seven seriously. All can ride, though. Thirty horses had to be put down. They were hamstrung!” He emphasized that in his emotionless voice, as if what had happened to the horses were worse than the deaths and injuries to men.
In fairness, the horses are innocent and only suffered because of their associations. Also, losses like this against a wolfpack of about seven are absolutely hysterical. Y'all are the continent's only standing army and this is what you've got?
Byar drew a deep breath and hesitated. “I have had the wolf that was with this lot skinned, my Lord Captain. The hide should make a fine rug for my Lord Captain’s tent.”
RIP Hopper. You didn't deserve any of this shit.
Cautiously, reluctantly, he felt for Elyas, for the wolves . . .  and found nothing. It was as if he had never been able to feel a wolf’s mind. Either they’re dead, or they’ve abandoned you.
Mostly the latter. Elyas got injured apparently, so at least there's kind of an excuse, but it's still pretty funny how quickly Perrin here got ditched.
“Excellently balanced, my Lord Captain. Plainly made, but by a very good weaponsmith, perhaps even a master.” His eyes burned darkly at the prisoners. “Not a villager’s weapon, my Lord Captain. Nor a farmer’s.”
Luhhan being such an amazing blacksmith that he can create masterwork combat weapons is honestly a bigger stretch to me than virtually any other Two Rivers Exceptionalism. I guess it helps that it's an axe and thus closely related to the kind of tools he'd be making anyway.
“Go easy, Child Byar.” Bornhald looked at the captives again. “I expect you do not know much about the Anointed, or about Lords Captain of the Children of the Light, do you? No, I thought not. Well, for Child Byar’s sake, at least, try not to argue or shout, yes? I want no more than that you should walk in the Light, and letting anger get the better of you won’t help any of us.”
Note that my description of Geof as "reasonable" is very much grading on a curve. Right now he's just playing good cop to Byar's bad cop and while Byar might legitimately be that awful, it's clear that Geof's very rehearsed in his interrogation techniques.
Perrin blinked, trying to clear his head. His brain still felt like jellied pain, but there was something wrong here. He could not get his thoughts straight enough to puzzle it out. “Not all of them,” Egwene muttered. Perrin gave Byar a wary look, but the gaunt man only watched her. “Some of them have horns, like rams or goats, or hawks’ beaks, or . . .  or . . .  all sorts of things.”
The problem with Egwene's being very enthusiastic about showing off everything she knows is that she's way too cooperative in interrogations. While Perrin is busy being concussed, she quickly digs a very deep trap for the two of them.
Egwene stared at him openly before she caught herself, but he pressed on with the truth—or a version of it. The two of them had left the Two Rivers to see Caemlyn. On the way they had heard of the ruins of a great city, but when they found Shadar Logoth, there were Trollocs there. The two of them managed to escape across the River Arinelle, but by that time they were completely lost. Then they fell in with a man who offered to guide them to Caemlyn. He had said his name was none of their business, and he hardly seemed friendly, but they needed a guide.
Possibly one of the reasons that Perrin doesn't get the time to shine as the third ta'veren going forward is that he stops needing to bullshit. He's really good at this for being concussed. Points to Egwene too, for being able to fill in the hole in his lie once he gets going. This is why you interrogate prisoners separately, so they can't coordinate their bullshit!
You may be telling the truth about being from the Two Rivers, since you know about Baerlon, and the mines. But Shadar Logoth . . . ? That is a name very, very few know, most of them Darkfriends, and anyone who knows enough to know the name, knows enough not to go there.
Of course, Perrin's story doesn't even get them as far as it might, since he casually namedrops ancient bullshit too. Really, it's almost unbelievable that Geof here is so educated; why was he at the devil's sacrament anyway?
“But you, just Perrin from the Two Rivers. You killed two of the Children.” He touched the axe that Byar still held. “For you, I fear, a gibbet waits in Amador.”
Don't fear, the gibbet is actually waiting in Ghealdan! Maybe Jordan would have had them move into Seanchan territory in his version of the story to complete the foreshadowing though? Kinda contrived but you never can tell.
Next time, we finally get back to Mat! Also Rand I guess but... Mat!

Ya know I will once again come out of my little Void of nothing to talk about to talk about the thing that grinds our gears once more and also maybe write a little ready? No? Fuck it here we go
so LBD, we already know her the best villain the show had the one who got offed rather unceremoniously honestly Only one who got done as dirty as she was happened to be poor Azure poor boy now anyway I’ve been up many a night wondering with embrace your destiny how and why wukong showed that much fear when she showed up and why her motives in the end were inconsistent with her prior characterization with the whole “I will Rip the memory of you from this World” being before the special her Goal but hey I don’t write the show pretty obviously of course macaque didn’t get any proper karma but I digress pretty sure we know that show and special LBD are two different people but hey let’s try to merge the Sadistic memory eraser with the woobie sad woman who needed cuddles!
so like we know these two let’s not get into it cause this is just a random post I made after listening to a bloody animatic and is not worth that much effort when the fanbase for this bone woman is squarely in the large enough to fill a table at a restaurant level of size. Now personally I could just merge the two characters as LBD once being like any other demon perhaps even more unusually evil then others before she met people that caused her to change for the better now personally I suggest the old woman man and the young girl disguises she used as said individuals with a interaction like this.
she could connect with humans more and slowly change for the better making the inevitable blow that their deaths gave hit all the deeper especially if you assume she takes the forms they had at their time of death and that girl looked mighty young (haha I’m so clever making the bone lady probably watch a child die infront of her)
yada yada we already know the gist she tries to help people humans are innately flawed and the Jade emperor is sticking his head so far up and deep in his ass I’m pretty sure it’s making Macaque’s murderboner for wukong look Shallow in comparison blah blah she meets the fool emperor eventually loses patience and the chief of war the eventual Chaotic ghost gremlin pulls a France and Rewards the emperor as he deserves and then we have no concrete info on what happened next cause hey fuck LBD fans who want more of her actually getting screentime and genuine spotlight so all we get is the knowledge that wukong Enslaved to tripitaka(yes it is slavery he is being made to do something under threat of pain that is straight up slavery no matter how you try to spin it)
promptly found her and came into conflict now this is where it’s interesting considering LBD in the show well…she FUCKING HATES wukong so his defeat had to be pretty bad for her but she doesn’t really seem to out of character normally when seeing him hell even accounting the special which made her more panicky and less logical then she normally is still had her relatively Calm so she is obviously still ABSOLUTELY LIVID about it so what made this particular event this rage inducing as Show LBD wanted to Rip the memory of wukong from the world while special LBD wanted…well we actually had no idea what the fuck she wanted as no one said anything and possessing wukong was a Hail Mary she wasn’t expecting so that’s off the table so just gonna merge the two together right about NOW
now let’s say LBD is still very much ax crazy mega demoness but is ya know chilling out even with her going for worldwide plans insert wukong our resident traumatized beat up Golden slave boy who gets treated AWFUL by the fandom and funny enough others in the show for things that aren’t really his fault now let’s say LBD sees it as a normal occurrence a little surprised that the celestial realm is standing in her way as She expected better and more care for mortals then insert what I like to call the “Wukong Fisting Special” that everyone else in the show has experienced which obviously didn’t end well for bone lady here but hey gotta merge them together to get something better right? So let’s do that Let’s say that as Streaking Gold batters down Bones and Pierces through illusions just as he has done to those that were sworn to him a Silverish Blue struck by Grief and Fed up with endless Perdition catches a glimpse of that same Pain she swore to get rid of in the back of his Eyes as she’s struck down like all the other before and after her.
locked away in a cold desolate crypt by a Monk who knows nothing of what she has seen or done to “see” the error of her ways and repent for trying to…end pain and suffering and the last thing she sees is The Same Gold that struck her down not even looking at her as she is entombed Alive but hey there’s still the Violet Shadow she so graciously brought back in exchange for one favor after all surely he wouldn’t leave her to rot after she brought him back to life in exchange for opening a box right? RIGHT? Bing boom bam the slow realization as she Rots alive in that tomb and the inevitable desperate Panic that ensues as she tries to get out before she exhausts what little echoes of her power remain from her fight with Gold and all she can do now is lament her failure and presumably still be aware mentally of the darkness and the noises above and outside her Grave slowly going mad little by little piece by piece chipping away leaving her delirious confused and most of all ANGRY when she finally is unleashed taking cold Vengeance and merging it with Compassionate Grief until you get the Sadistic Silver of the Show tinted with the Blue Misery of the Special
yeah yeah way with words
we fucking love LBD and that’s our daily post now time to lament the lack of fanart for her and expand that damn au

Honestly though, but the way the show, not to mention Ferdinand Kingsley’s stupendous acting, makes us absolutely fall in love with Hob...
I was thinking about this yesterday at work bc monday nights are painfully slow, but stick with me. Throughout the centuries, we get to see different sides of Hob Gadling, both good and bad.
We see the soldier-turned-mercenary, so we know he has killed and pillaged both to survive and for money - but we also see his child-like wonder at all the changes going on around him, no matter how small or insignificant they might appear to us in our technologicaly advanced future. And it’s impossible not to admire him for being so open and enthusiastic for new things as they come.
We see him in extravagant wealth, proud of the fruits of his labor from the past hundred years and how vapid, maybe even sort of shallow they’ve made him. But knowing his origins, how can we fault him for enjoying all the things he worked so hard for and boast them? For how he built himself from nothing and reached the blissful top where he doesn’t have to worry about food and shelter, where he can have everything he needs (and wants) only one short financial exchange away? I’ll be real with you guys, I was so damn proud of Hob in 1589, even if he was being a bit of a twat about it. He was so damn happy with his wife and baby boy, you could tell he was aware of what it took to get where he is and he is grateful for all of it. He ends up taking it all for granted perhaps, but I get the feeling that above all, he’s grateful. And to be rejected by Dream the way he was... I felt bad for him bc as a person of limited means, I know what it’s like to have to work your ass off to get a modicum of comfort.
Right afterward, as we come to expect right at the end of the 1589 sequence, we see him in extreme poverty - dirty, clothes good for the trash but they’re probably the only pieces he has left, down in the mud with nothing, starving to death over and over again, and we hear how the past hundred years have been the worst of his life, every tragedy laid out bare - yet, he still wants to live. Many of you likely know how fucking hard it is to go through harsh times when you just want to stop existing. I know I do. So, to see Hob smiling, despite all the shit he went through, and heartily say he has so much to live for despite his current circumstances?? I mean, the sheer stubbornness and bravery, knowing tomorrow will be just as bad as tonight but still looking forward to it, is downright charming. Not even inspiring, though it is, but most of all, it’s so charming. Sexy, even, like... OOF.
Oh boy, and then comes the elephant in the room: 1789. “Shipping business.” Actively participating in the enslavement of other human beings. Look, I’m a humanitarian at heart, even if I’m not exactly a “people person”, so let me make this clear: what Hob was doing was WRONG. What he was doing is UNFORGIVABLE. I can never excuse him for it, nor forgive him. I think it was downright despicable and he deserves to live with the weight of those sins and the blood on his hands for eternity. That being said - no matter how abhorrent his actions were, the fact that almost as soon as Dream calls him out on it, he is humbled enough to consider changing his ways (and eventually following through), while it does nothing to erase the suffering he was causing, at least it shows he is not completely souless either. There is some good in him that’s worth carving out and bring into the light, there’s something in him that’s worth preserving. Not saving, there’s no coming back from participating in slavery. Just preserving. It’s more explicit in the comics, where Hob says he will never be able to make up for this mistake, and it’s that humility and willingness to improve himself and do better in the future that’s worth appreciating. Imagine if all the evil people in the world woke up to reality and decided to change for the better and work to make up for what they’ve done, even if that will never undo their past actions? I think the world would be doing a lot better. We need to give people a chance to be better, not without proper punishment, mind you! But those who do repent and regret their actions need a chance to be rehabilitated and reintegrated into society, otherwise we are never moving forward.
Anyway.
In comes my favorite iteration of Hob: 1889. It’s when we truly see the culmination of the centuries, the best version of himself he can be, a man who believes people are almost always better than we think they are, who is too modest to admit he’s changed for the better, where he is neither poor nor wealthy, just average - someone willing to admit that he’s made mistakes and will continuing to make them because he might be immortal, but he’s still a human being ridden with flaws. He’s just so bashful when he becomes vulnerable with Dream, when he opens himself up and shows his own insecurities and regrets. So beautifully human.
And finally, we get to see his devotion to his relationship with Dream from 1989 forward, and yeah, look, I’m a BIG Dreamling fan as you’ve probably noticed, but just put that aside for a moment. If Hob is this dedicated to his friendship with a creature he only meets once a century, imagine what he’s like with all his other friends? Even back in 1589, the way he talks about Eleanor and Robyn, with so much love and affection, like they are the center of his world. He’s one loyal son of a bitch. And quick to forgive, it seems.
And that’s why regardless of all the awful things he does through time, I can’t... Hate him for it. I can fault him for sure, I can recognize his dark side and say “yeah, no dude, you were a shitty person for doing all that.” I think it’s the good things about him that balance it all out. By the end of episode 06, I feel nothing except a deep appreciation and affection for Hob’s character. He inspired me to be the best person I can be, to forgive myself for my slights and focus on the next day, the next moment, and strive to do better always, never to wallow in self-pity and self-hate because ultimately, it helps neither myself nor anyone else. Above all, he and Death inspired me to look at life under a different prism, a more positive one. Yeah, the world is all fucked up, there’s little we can do to change it and everything dies in the end, but if you look hard enough, there’s always something worth looking forward to.
We aim for change. We do our best. And above all, we live.
And that’s how I’ve ended up falling head over heels for Hob Gadling.

TW//Hybrid slavery, Hybrid hate, Bodyshaming, Physical abuse, Threats, Mention of past abuse, Branding, Starving as punishment.
Soleil heaved against the floor, holding his neck with a painef bleat and crying when a foot collided against its back again, choking another another noise of pain.
"I fucking told you to not make a mess, you fat sheep but here you left all these mess without washing." Its 'master' spat the words harshly, even when what he said wasn't true at all. She did wash the dishes but missed one, only one and it was enough for him to get upset.
He took any opportunity to get his hands on him.
"Lucky for me I didn't pay much for you, I never had a sheep before so it was a great deal." He murmured, taking away his foot from her back and letting it sit up again, his eyes moving down to the messy carved letter of his name behind her neck.
He had cut her hair after learning it grew back rather quickly for him, wanting to brand it right away on a spot that it couldn't reach nor see to mess it up. Of course, he didn't want her to have the luxury of being sedated when that happened, doing all of it when she was awake and conscious.
"I gave you a new home, new clothes and even a fucking hair cut. Of course now it doesn't hidd how fat you are but doesn't matter, it'd better for me that way." He walked towards a cabinet, taking a glass and a bottle of whiskey to serve for himself. "I wouldn't be able to actually keep the house clean if I wanted to fuck you all the time, like a good toy but it would be annoying how many sounds you would make."
Sol gulped, standing up on shakey legs and trying to ignore the bill that was rising up his throat.
He kept talking.
"At least you learn quicker, I'll give you that. But you still need more discipline with how you yet seem to do everything properly." He took a large sip from the glass, licking his lips with a sick smile on his face. "But we can do that in no time, you're not leaving anytime soon."
"We can't have you being out there all alone can we? You probably had nothing, so really I'm doing you a favor." He wasn't, he was just sick in the head for foing all of this and speaking about it so freely. Its stomach hurt again, but not from the hits or the lack of food, well it did, but also because of the disgust he was causing her.
She already had friends, people who liked it for being it. He stole everything from her.
"Come on! Smile for me, I'm even making you lose a few pounds! Although your body hasn't changed at all, perhaps all sheeps just have a fat body." He snorted, pouring himself more whiskey. "Nonetheless, you leave everything postless like my ex-wife, which you're far better because you don't talk back at all, being mute."
He cackled, downing his glass again before serving himself more. Sol had never been so humillieted in his life, treated like the worst scum of earth just because of how it was born. But it still knew better, it was not her fault but it was for staying listening to that conversation.
Now here it was, looking at the man who bought it get himself drunk and ushering her to the cage that was its new bed. It was late already, night practically and sometimes it was worse when he acted like that, more so when drinking. The bruises on its body told tales about it, whenever he didn't do what he asked quickly or refused.
She remained curled up on its cage, silently sobbing to herself to try and get some warm back on its body.
Sol did try fighting back, but it was weak, barely any foods or liquids inside her body, getting knocked out far more easily by a man who was far more taller and stronger than it. 'Shameful' he thought bitterly, curling up on himself when the thought came accompanied with his voice inside his mind.
Punches to the face and stomach, hand shaped marks on its neck after not cooking the right thing for him to eat, body slammed against every wall and table in the house.
She just wanted to go home.

Seeing the dragon age discord, im obligated to ask for your opinion on my (and my daugher's) favorite Solas trait. His flimsiness. He once said that after making the veil, he awoken one year before DAI, so he woke up, decided he fucked up and made his mind on genocide in ONE YEAR. He is a immortal elven god. But he makes very human mistakes and decisions inspired by the heat of the moment. I'm interested in your opinion, and if you answered this beforer, im fine with you ignoring this ask :)
I actually really disagree with this characterisation of Solas because he's extremely measured and well-considered and constantly is trying to strike up conversation with others and understand them even when it makes him angry (like Dorian excusing slavery or the Qun). Solas walks the dinan'shiral (journey of death), this is extremely serious business.
The quest where you find the future ravaged by Red Lyrium and decide to avert that future is meant to show you exactly what position the Dread Wolf is in. If you made a swift decision to avert that world, what position do you think he is in once he's woken up? To him, this IS the bad future. Every elf that is currently dying is dying because of him because he broke their immortality. Every single life is on his hands when he tried to save them and free them from the Evanuris in the first place and instead left a worse world behind. He is singularly responsible.
We don't know that bringing down the Veil would end in everybody dying. 'Genocide' has a very specific use referring to the systematic extermination of a selected people, which can refer to systematic murder but also include systematic extinguishment of culture. This is an extremely serious and loaded term and to use it in this context is inappropriate and does not describe Solas, because ultimately people who die because of the Veil falling is not something he seeks out to specifically do, and he is not specifically vengeful to a singular people, though he does find many faults with the world he's woken up (ongoing oppression, the mage conflict (this is why DA2 happened), slavery). I also find genocide extremely inappropriate to describe the intentions of a character who freed his people from slavery, who is a trickster god, who resents anything that would oppress people or make them unfree. The Veil - a prison of his own making, but a prison nevertheless, and something he now finds fault in - makes sense for him to try to destroy, especially if there is a connection between the Veil and the Blight or something like that as speculated. He knows more about the Blight than the Grey Wardens but he's very tight lipped on the topic.
Whether you choose to understand Solas' perspective or make assumptions about who he is transforms him, it's a practice in empathy. Whether you view him as someone who makes a quick choice, or in some cases throughout the rest of the fandom as pretentious and cruel, or rather as someone who has agonised - agonised - over what he's gong to do - that he wishes the Inquisitor could stop him, that he wishes it were different, that he wishes there were another way, that he wants to fix his mistakes - makes your world and your Dread Wolf very different. The Trespasser confrontation is the best example of this - whether he's tired and bored by your Inquisitor or whether he's heartbroken, even if you didn't romance him, he still respects and admires your Inquisitor who tried and cared and thinks you are a worthy adversary.
Tumblr media
Solas spends the entire game of Inquisition deciding whether his future course of action is correct. That's the point of him as a companion. If he were an easy, flippant villain, he wouldn't have been made a companion in the first place. He desperately wants to be wrong. If anything, what's so hard for him is realising his initial solution wasn't a solution at all. That's not proud. That's humbling. Whether his future course correction is, after all, correct, is another question, but now there's the Inquisitor. On one level, there is a bit of a playful story metarecognition: he's so lucky to have a heroic opponent like you, because maybe you're right. Maybe you could fix it in a way he can't, or maybe the Veil comes down and you figure out an even better solution. Solas works as an antagonist for heroic and villainous Inquisitors - that's what's so clever about it - because to a villainous protagonist Inquisitor - he's heroic. Whether you make him see this world as as being real is based on who your Inquisitor is. He can be sleepwalking or he can be awake.
For people who call him an intolerant conservative, there isn't any real world analogue to him (and ignoring the magical setting and its magical consequences is just ignorant and misses the point of fantasy). As Chelsea (@corseque) once said, it's like if a Viking woke up to find neopagans practising Norse religion as inherited through Christian texts, except even more pronounced because he IS Loki. It's like if people wrote texts about you and then a thousand years later you discovered people had legends about you from a different cultural source, you were THERE when these things happened and YOU'RE now the figure of myth and worship and scapegoat.
I also recommend reading Chelsea's Solas tag because she's said more on him than I ever could.
I'm sorry, Solas is neither flippant nor is he intending to commit genocide (intentional systematic extermination). Of course, whether you choose to understand him is your player choice. That's the point. That's why it's a Bioware game. Dialogue and dialogue choices matter. He can be the many-eyed Pride demon black wolf or he can be the soft white wolf.
So I'm not going to tell you to change your mind or your daughter's (that's sweet you share it). I am simply sharing my opinion as you asked for it and why I feel Solas is such an interesting and amazing character. He wants to talk, and when he does talk it can even be in poetic melody (to the tune of Hallelujah, I can't find the source for it but I first saw Chelsea discuss it - here's a Reddit post):
I’ve journeyed deep into the Fade (8) in ancient ruins and battlefields (8) to see the dreams of lost civilisations (11) I’ve watched as hosts of spirits clash (8) to re-enact the bloody past (8) in ancient wars both famous and forgotten (11) every great war has its heroes (8) I’m just curious what kind you’ll be (9)
Your faith was strong but you needed proof... that basically describes the Dread Wolf in one sentence.
He wants to listen. He wishes he were wrong. He knows what pride is. He has ideals he's devoted to that he is uncompromising about, to the point he takes others and their beliefs too seriously (like that banter with Sera where he tries to give her information on how to stage a revolution and she doesn't get his intensity). He's a trickster god. He hates borders and he loves freedom. He's not a one-note antagonist. Whether you want to hear him talk or not is up to you.
That's why the final boss fight of Inquisition (Trespasser DLC) is a conversation.

In magic rape slavery AU if Fëanor wanted to hurt Fingolfin by fucking Fingon in front if him, how would Maedhros react? Would he be annoyed but still order Fingon to obey? Fingon's reaction to Maedhros doing it would probs me 'my expectations for you were low but holy shit'. I imagine Fëanor ordering Nolo to fuck Fingon after he does and Maedhros is like 'daaaad, you promised it would be just you'. Do you think he would try to make it up to Fingon in some twisted way?
Maedhros would be annoyed. Feanor kind of loses the argument that that he only enslaved Nolo because it was "necessary" to prevent a civil war, if he then is making this gratuitously bad for Nolo afterwards. Especially if Maedhros hasn't seen Nolo do anything obviously antagonistic in public to be punished for. (He hasn't. This is just another way for Feanor to demonstrate his total control of Nolo.)
But Maedhros would still order Fingon to go along with it. The Feanorians are not good at setting reasonable boundaries with their dad, and after killing people for him and raping someone for him, it doesn't really seem worth keeping anything back.
So Maedhros orders Fingon to obey Feanor's orders for the night, and to come back to Maedhros's bedroom when Feanor's done.
I do think Maedhros would try to give aftercare/make it up to Fingon, but kind of like that Punisher gif where he takes the gun and says "you only shot him, see? *bang* I killed him."
When Fingon comes back, he's incredibly shaken and upset. And sure, Maedhros had expected Fingon to dislike it, but he was angry when he left, not horrified. (I think righteous anger is kind of Fingon's default coping mechanism with trauma, as long as there's someone he can justify blaming.)
Maedhros: "What's wrong?"
Fingon: "He raped me."
Maedhros: "Yes. I didn't expect my father to be much more traumatizing than me though, given how often you tell me we can't go back to what we had."
Fingon: "Not just him."
Maedhros: "Who then? Did my father let his guards fuck you too? I would have argued about that, you're too special to share with just anyone."
Maedhros is in the habit of asking questions when Fingon is upset, rather than saying "tell me what happened", at least as a first resort. They both know that Maedhros could order Fingon to speak every secret he knows, but they get along better when he doesn’t.
Fingon: "No. No one else was there."
Maedhros: "What happened then?"
Fingon: “Feanor raped me while my father watched. Then he offered my father-  he agreed.”
Maedhros pausesd a moment to work out the pronouns there. “Ah. I had expected this to be reminding Nolo he can’t stop my father, but it sounds like it went a bit past that.”
Fingon: “That’s all you have to say?”
Maedhros: “I’ll ask my father to not do it again, there’s no point in making you terrified of your father.”
Fingon: “I’m not terrified! It’s just - how could my own father do that to me?”
Maedhros hummed in thought for a moment. “Come over to the bed.”
Fingon said, “Please, not now, I don’t want this,” even as his legs moved.
“I know, it will be alright soon. Take off your robe and tunic.”
“Maedhros, please. I can't-”
“Stop talking for a bit. Take your dagger out - not your cock, your actual dagger.”
Fingon did, on the third try with his unsteady hands.
“Good. Now, cut a shallow line on the outside of your right arm.”
Fingon was forced to obey.
“Point it at your heart, and keep it there.”
Maedhros looked Fingon over to be sure it was a position he could hold for a few minutes. Satisfied, he continued. “Your would drive that knife into your own chest if I ordered you to. If I brought your sister in here and told you to stab her, you’d do so as well. You’d hate me for it, but you wouldn’t be able to stop it. It wouldn’t be your fault; you’d just be the weapon I chose. I’m not going to order you against your family, but if I did, it would be my decision, not yours at all. Do you understand?”
Fingon nodded, careful not to let the knife slip. “My father doubtless ordered yours to rape you. It happened because my father wanted you to be raped, and likely wanted to watch Nolofinwe’s body fuck someone. It has nothing to do with any desire on Nolofinwe’s part, any more than you wanted to cut yourself, or to strip. You may speak now, but don’t move yet.”
“I didn’t hear any orders,” Fingon said.
“And no one hears me order you to ride out beside me in battle. I give them all in advance, but you still do exactly as I ask.”
“So it could be that Feanor ordered my father to rape me every time he sees me.”
“Don’t be ridiculous, no one wants you ravaged in the middle of a council meeting.”
“But maybe every time in private, or the tenth time he sees me.”
“I doubt my father is interested in Nolofinwe’s obedience where he can’t witness it. You could just avoid being alone with your father though.”
“For how long, the rest of time? He’s the only one I can talk to about what’s really going on.”
“You can still talk to me, you know. But anyway, it would just be a day or two, until I have time to check with my father that he didn’t order Nolofinwe to do anything to you.”
“Fine, you’ve made your point,” Fingon said. “Can I put the dagger away?”
“Sure, neither of us wants an accident.”

The witch hunts was not a Catholic European thing though, and the Inquisition was the first one to stop any sort of witchhunts because they didn't even believe that witchcraft existed. They had an Inquisitor spend months in Navarre after the Zugarraburfi trials (which was in itself an isolated event in a lot of ways) to stop the collective hysteria because the Spanish Inquisition realized that people's claims of witchcraft had been passed over the border with France where witch hunts were a serious issue. The Inquisition stopped one of the trials involving CHILDREN in Switzerland who were going to be executed. It is noted historically hoy the Catholic Church andespecially the Inquisition were rather merciful in regards of their attitude to witches and sorcery (and please, understand merciful in comparison to the actions of others,)
Witch hunts happened in areas where there was religious conflicts especially, like France, Germany and England which is why Italy and Psian saw very few of these and the ones that happened took place in areas very close to the borders with these sort of countries.
Luther was especially very aggressive towards those who were believed to practice dark magic and pressed for the hunts to continue.
Not everything is the fault of Catholics lmo. Have they done their fair share of things? Yeah. But this is not one of them.
Also just to note something, the Church didn't like the Inquisition lmao, because it was outside of their power. The Spanish, that is, not the others established in different countries before that.
No offense anon, but your entire post sounds like a major cope😭
Here's what I said
Tumblr media
Maybe my sentence wasn't clear, but I said that the INQUISITION was an "Catholic European thing" - not witch trials. Witch trials were also committed by Protestants (WASP settlers in North America) so it wouldn't make sense to put witch trials on Catholicism alone. The Inquisition was mostly entertained by Europeans but also European colonies in South America.
It's also interesting how you're hyper fixating on witch trials and how the Inquisition dindu nuffing when I actually stated that the Inquisition targetted demographics beyond those suspected of witchcraft.
It's also funny how you say " the Inquisition stopped the witch trials".... without saying WHO started them 💀 sorry but the Inquisition starting to wind down on an oppression IT CREATED doesn't remotely negate the fucked up shit it did.
It's like those thinking they're doing something saying shit like "White people ended slavery🥺" ......yeah after profiting off of it for CENTURIES and realizing owning slaves (that have to be fed, accommodated, could get tired, get sick, etc.) was more expensive than investing in vapor machines. One have to be an absolute idiot to think the abolition of slavery came from benevolence. Interestingly enough, the same brand of folks spouting that nonsense totally understand it when it comes to female liberation (voting, better access to the workplace, etc.) to conveniently send shots to feminism, but will act oblivious when it comes to destroy to Slavery ending Benevolent White Man™ myth 💀
Also I don't understand why you have to drag Luther into this. Luther was a psychotic piece of shit, too - but he was right dragging the papacy for the disgusting farce that it is. The Inquisition was still demonic and full of shit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I still think God used Luther to rightfully call out the abuse of the Catholic church It wouldn't be a new thing for God to use extremely flawed people to make His point *Nebuchadnezzar says hi!* and it's lowkey funny how Catholics are still seething about it. Reeeee!!! peasants are now allowed to actually READ the Bible and don't have to PAY their ticket to heaven??!! 😱😱
And let's not even forget how the Catholic church reinforced worshipping in latin (because Catholicism is a European White washed pun intended version of Christianism - it's pretty reminiscent of the Arab supremacism of Islam that compels Muslim to read the Quran in Arabic 💀) which is hysterical because if it was about sticking to tradition they'd rather chose to worship in Aramaic, Hebrew, or even Greek...but noooo, these European scrotes had to center the Bible around themselves instead💀💀
No one is saying everything is the fault of Catholics. But it would be nice of Catholic to gaslight people into thinking how aKtcHualLy they did nothing wrong. The Inquisition oppressing intellectuals and Protestants is a well documented historical fact, anon. Even here in France, one of the most significant event in our History is the Saint Barthelemy when it's estimated 15-30 000 Protestants (Huguenots) were killed in one night. I have many things to say about Protestants who also have their fair share of shittiness and bloodsheding antics but it would be nice for Catholics to take accountability in basic historical facts instead of playing oblivious.
And I know for a fact that the Church (capital C aka the body of Christ) doesn't like the Inquisition because no discerning Christian who has the holy spirit/actually read the Bible does follow the Catholic Church of Rome. And I say this as a former Catholic who got her wake up call by simply reading the Bible and praying to God to show me the truth.

laurent is a good person - book 1 meta
one of the most amazing things about captive prince is how the reveals in book 3 recontextualize all of the scenes leading up to them, including about laurent himself. in book one, all we see is damen pov as he’s being abused and humiliated by this supposedly spoiled, vile ice prince. when the regent comes to damen and subtly (and not so subtly) insults laurent, calling him unfit to rule - well, why would he think anything different? laurent has insulted him, had him whipped within an inch of his life, and even attempted to (and later successfully lmfao) have him raped while drugged out of his mind.
after book 3 we can reread most if not all of book 1 as a very traumatized boy who has finally been confronted with the man who killed his brother, leaving him alone with his abusive uncle, and who he clearly has made into a complete monster in his own mind. damen of course sees him as a complete bitch, but there’s textual/subtextual evidence that laurent is well liked, and that his behavior during book 1 was actually pretty out of character for him. i’d like to provide some examples of that now!!!!
“Laurent had stopped dead the moment he had seen Damen, his face turning white as though in reaction to a slap, or an insult. Damen’s view, half-truncated by the short chain at this neck, had been enough to see that. But Laurent’s expression had shuttered quickly.” Captive Prince, Chapter One
i couldn’t resist adding this one in hehe. laurent recognizes damen!! he’s come down, knowing his uncle has devised another truly horrendous and triggering “gift” and that he’ll lose support if he calls it our for what it truly is, only to find out that it’s fucking damianos of akielos sent to him as a sex slave. a jab at laurent’s trauma about auguste and also a jab at laurent’s frigid sexuality - which ofc is completely the regent’s fault. fuck that guy so much lmfao
“‘It’s so rare to see you at these entertainments, Your Highness,’ said Vannes.” Captive Prince, Chapter Two.
this is right before the fight between govart and damen in the ring, of course. damen sees laurent as depraved and vile as the sexual sadism on display by the veretian court, and considers him to be a willing purveyor of it. this is wrong, of course, as said by vannes here. laurent has only shown up because he wants to humiliate damen lmfao.
“He did remember being supported by two of the guards, here, in this room, while Radel stared athis back in horror. ‘The Prince really . . . did this.’ ‘Who else?’ Damen said. Radel had stepped forward, and slapped Damen across the face; it was a hard slap, and the man wore three rings on each finger. ‘What did you do to him?’ Radel demanded.” Captive Prince, Chapter Four
this scene, to me, was the most telling lmfao. it’s right after damen is whipped. you could argue that radel is just a servant in the employ of the royal household, so is of course going to be loyal to the prince, but he seems genuinely surprised of the prince’s cruelty towards damen. not only that, but he slaps him and immediately assumes damen must have done something. which - i mean, technically he did lmao. not necessarily enough to deserve having the skin flayed from his back, but you know. if laurent was in the habit of torturing pets and slaves, why would the overseer react this way?
“The men guarding him were the Prince’s Guard, and had no affiliation with the Regent whatsoever. It surprised Damen how loyal they were to their Prince, and how diligent in his service, airing none of the grudges and complaints that he might have expected, considering Laurent’s noxious personality. Laurent’s feud with his uncle they took up wholeheartedly; there were deep schisms and rivalries between the Prince’s Guard and the Regent’s Guard, apparently.” Captive Prince, Chapter Four
laurents relationships with his guards are also some of the biggest indicators that he isn’t just a spoiled brat, but can insire a deep loyalty in his men. even if they do all want to fuck him. ah, sexual harassment. it’s also hilarious that damen immediately assumes they’re loyal to him because they want to fuck him - nice projection there, dude. we know a bit more about laurent and his guards thanks to green but for a season, but this little bit here is interesting.
“Laurent was indeed good at talking. He accepted sympathy gracefully. He put his position rationally. He stopped the flow of talk when it became dangerously critical of his uncle. He said nothing that could be taken as an open slight on the Regency. Yet no one who talked to him could have any doubt that his uncle was behaving at best misguidedly and at worst treasonously.”  Captive Prince, Chapter Five
idek what to say here. laurent my beloved <3333
“‘When someone doesn’t like you very much, it isn’t a good idea to let them know that you care about something,’ said Laurent. Damen felt himself turn ashen, as the threat sank in. ‘Would it hurt worse than a lashing for me to cut down someone you care for?’ said Laurent.” Captive Prince, Chapter Seven
this isn’t really relevant to my thesis lmfao i just love this exchange bc it gives SO MUCH information about laurent and his uncle in just three lines of dialogue. what has the regent done, who did he cut down just to hurt laurent? when and how did laurent learn that? p a i n
“Laurent’s fussy horse began acting out again, and he leaned forward in the saddle, murmuring something as he stroked her neck in an uncharacteristically gentle gesture to quiet her.” Captive Prince, Chapter Nine.
HORSEY NO- lmfao this scene just hurts so badly on the reread. especially later on, in book 3 i think, where laurent says something like “i provoked my uncle.” he’s really blaming himself for his uncle KILLING HIS HORSE, his horse that his murdered brother trained, one of the only living connections to auguste... all because his uncle could not let a single miniscule plan laurent had set go through without some kind of repercussion. literally all laurent did was do something to stop an innocent group of people from being abused, nothing to undermine his uncle’s rule, but because the regent is VILE he could not let laurent have even this. he’s so good with her, too. he must have known by this point and also known that there was no way to stop this. P A I N
“‘I know that you have somehow arranged this,’ said Erasmus. He was incapable of hiding what he felt, and just seemed to radiate embarrassed happiness. ‘You kept your promise. You and your master. I told you he was kind,’ Erasmus said. ‘You did,’ said Damen. He was pleased to see Erasmus happy. Whatever Erasmus believed about Laurent, Damen wasn’t going to dissuade him. ‘He’s even nicer in person. Did you know he came and talked to me?’ said Erasmus. ‘—He did?’ said Damen. It was something he couldn’t imagine. ‘He asked about . . . what happened in the gardens. Then he warned me. About last night.’ ‘He warned you,’ said Damen. ‘He said that Nicaise would make me perform before the court and it would be awful, but that if I was brave, something good might come at the end of it.’ Erasmus looked up at Damen curiously. ‘Why do you look surprised?’ ‘I don’t know. I shouldn’t be. He likes to plan things in advance,’ said Damen.” Captive Prince, Chapter 9.
this is the first in-text confirmation we have that laurent has a good heart beneath his layers and layers of trauma-induced lashing out. book one often skeeves people out because of its graphic and, honestly, yes, kind of sexualized depiction of rape, slavery, and depravity, but beneath it all you meet these two protagonists who are going to have all of their most deeply held views about each other challenged. laurent from very early on is shaken to his core when damen refuses to rape nicaise in the ring - it cracks the very foundations of the person he’d built up in his head as this horrible monster who killed his brother in cold blood. and damen keeps defying laurents expectations by being a good person through and through. on the other hand, laurent spends the first part of the book taking out years of anger on damen, but here for the first time we see him do something just because its the kind thing to do. yes, torveld is an ally against his uncle, but laurent has clearly been scheming with him for a while now, and he’s now overlooking his hatred of damen and working with him just because none of the slaves deserve whats happened to them. it’s such a sweet moment.
“One of the other men, eyeing them, approached a moment later. ‘Don’t mind Jean. He’s in a foul mood. He was the one had to stick a sword through the mare’s throat and put her down. The Prince tore strips off him for not doing it fast enough.’” Captive Prince, Chapter Nine.
HORSEY NO- pt 2. this is just another really sweet and sad detail - laurent being so upset that the horse’s death could have been more painless. it must have hurt so much to see her in pain, and to know that the only way for that pain to end was being put down as quickly as possible. i wuv him. im sad
that’s it, though there are still a few more chapters left in the book. this isn’t providing any new information, of course, the path of the three books is to show that laurent isnt the man we meet in book one, that he’s actually sweet, and earnest, and he’s been fighting his own battle practically alone against his abuser since he was fifteen years old. also, the reveal that laurent knew who damianos was from the start makes it clear imo that all of his violence in book 1 was supposed vengence, not... him being evil. he apologizes explicitly in-text, and also, all of the acts of violence he commits cause serious problems for him in terms of his future alliance which he then needs to fix. i just love how layered these books are, how there’s so much information in them that makes rereading almost more fun than reading them for the very first time!

There’s plenty of people who think the Jedi got what they deserved in order 66… and they don’t use as many negative traits to describe them as you do (seriously, “abusive, arrogant, corrupt, cowardly, deceitful, manipulative, hypocritical, negligent, oppressive, selfish, violent” ?? Have you run out of adjectives or is there more you’ve forgot?) .
So yeah, it’s not a strange thought to associate you with those people and to be tired of having those rants show up everywhere on posts or gif sets. How many anti tags are you using? How many snide remarks have you made against the fandom/fans? It’s ALL you talk about. Not difficult to take you for a “hater”. Most people are just having fun here on tumblr and here you all are, pointing fingers and calling out people..
Nonny, you guys are the ones who can’t accept canonical evidence right in your face that Obi Wan and the Jedi before Luke were deeply flawed. Using those adjectives of abusive, arrogant, corrupt, cowardly, morally hypocritical, violent, and vindictive, are not wrong. They lost their way because they became too afraid to take a risk to do the right thing under pressure. They became too arrogant to admit they could be wrong. Granted, so did Anakin after a while, particularly after going dark, but the fandom and the narrative doesn’t try to pretend like it was ever okay whenever he did fucked up stuff, regardless of the shitty circumstances and his “greater good” justifications.
You guys are the ones defending child abuse, child conscription for warfare and politics, cultism, slavery, and war crimes on the part of the Jedi just because they said it was all about “protecting the greater good.”
At least, I’m tagging my posts that are making legitimate canon criticisms as “anti Jedi apologists/apologism,” “Obi Wan critical,” “Yoda critical,” “Jedi order critical,” and “Jedi Council critical” of the Jedi Council, Jedi Order, Obi Wan, Yoda, and Jedi apologists to try to stay out of your lane. You guys don’t tag your posts as “Anti Anakin Skywalker” when you call him “an evil spawn of Satan who was always destined for evil,” blame him for his own grooming by saying he fell for Palpatine, even before learning he was a Sith Lord as a child because he was an “entitled, narcissistic, and ungrateful brat” in regards to Obi Wan, Yoda, and the Jedi Council, who hated them because they told him what to do. Please, they openly treated him like garbage more often than not, let him talk to to Palpatine alone when he was a child under their care, and then blamed Anakin for growing close to him when enabling that relationship was no longer convenient for their own benefits.
Yoda was essentially running the Jedi Order like a cult. He kept insisting his members answer to a Republic that they all knew was a corrupt and hypocritical government, which only protected the upper class elite on the planets in the inner rims of the galaxy under their control, in spite of claiming to “fight for democracy and peace.”
Anakin Skywalker can still be held accountable for his crimes and character flaws as an adult because he still ultimately had enough self-awareness of right vs wrong, in spite of eventually becoming emotionally/mentally unstable, going through a lifetime of abuse, emotional/psychological conditioning for warfare and slavery, and oppression.
However, when I try to hold accountable adults in the Jedi Order for the systematic abuse, crimes, elitism, oppression, manipulation, war, and violence they knowingly enabled and committed because it made it easier for them to hold onto control and fit in for security under pressure when the odds were against them, it’s suddenly “not their fault at all.” Let’s remember that Yoda was the leader of the Jedi Order for over eight centuries, and he had made the decision to follow a corrupt Republic government, so he could pressure them to give his organization the legal rights to more or less abduct force sensitive children from their families for his “greater good” in exchange for protecting them. The adults involved were not innocent victims, especially not the members on the high Council who held the most privilege of authority to change things for the better, but still didn’t.
We got a morally gray tale in which the Jedi before Luke, while well-meaning, had become seriously flawed in his dad’s time, and Yoda and Obi-Wan were even showing signs of that corruption in the OT series, too, but you guys keep willfully overlooking that. It’s “Obi Wan was such a tragic hero, who was too nice to Anakin, and could have saved Anakin if the boy weren’t such an ungrateful brat.”
Sure…Obi-Wan was such a great guardian/mentor. He never was an abusive, cowardly, deceitful, emotionally negligent, hypocritical, manipulative, self-righteous, low-key vindictive, and petty jerkass, who spent the majority of his life ass-kissing Yoda, even when it came at the cost of
Sure…Obi Wan and Yoda suffered so much living in hiding on Tattooine for 23 years, wallowing in self-pity after inadvertently helping fuck up Anakin and the fall of their own Order with their cowardice and hypocrisy, while their former apprentice helped terrorize and/or murder the galaxy of remaining Jedi survivors, friends, and other innocent citizens as Sidious’s murder servant/attack dog. It totally was not fucked up to deliberately deceive, endanger, and manipulate their former apprentice’s estranged and innocent son to finish him off for them because they were too afraid to face the consequences of the mess they helped create with his father in the first place by repeatedly pushing him away with their extremist system’s methods and practices that they still refuse to fully accept were deeply toxic and hypocritical, regardless of their intentions…🙄🙄🙄
Let’s just ignore the fact that, at least in public as Darth Vader in the suit, Anakin became more like the “ideal” duty bound and stone cold warrior “for the greater good” of enforcing and maintaining order and security in the Empire for himself and his men that Yoda and Jedi Council Obi Wan kept insisting he be more like before he turned to the dark side. Let’s ignore the fact that the abusive, arrogant, controlling, elitist, hypocritical, and oppressive systematic practices and teachings of a corrupt Jedi Order are partially responsible for influencing the birth of monsters, who are able convince themselves they are fighting for the “greater good,” from their own organization, in the first place…🙄🙄🙄
Sure…For his crimes, Anakin deserved to be left to inhumanely burn alive in agony by the “peaceful” Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, and get trapped with an even worse master from whom viable escape was limited to nonexistent. Obi-Wan totally deserved a father of the year award for cutting off Anakin’s limbs when he got the high ground in their duel, only to rant at him and watch him suffer in agony when he caught on fire, rather than just putting him out of his misery when he got the upper hand on Mustafar instead….🙄🙄🙄
*Sighs*

You looked up from the ground, tilting your head slightly to get a good look at the man in front of you. Your hair was messy and uncut; thus a few unruly strands had impended your vision a little. You want to swipe them away, to tuck them behind your ear, but—It was a little difficult moving your hands with such heavy chains tied around it. Still though, you make do with what you can for now…At least you can see that it was a man, not as tall as your father and perhaps a little too young in terms of appearance.
He wears a strange set clothing and a large hat, you thought he had an interesting taste to be able to walk around in them. “Can you believe it? They drowned themselves in a ridiculous amount of debt, knowing that they won’t be able to pay it off in due time. That’s peak human selfishness for you.” He continues on as you blinked in wonder—What was he talking about? “…And When they come to their own stupidity in the end, they begged for their lives and offered to turned in the one and only treasure they have left.”
He looked at you directly for the first time, your hair didn’t let you see what kind of expression he wore—But he sounded cold…and disgusted. For someone who had the appearance of a young boy, he sure carries an aura that can intimidate just about anyone. “Do you get what I’m saying? I’m talking about you…You were the “treasure” that they highly cherished.” He said as he scoffed, almost snorting in mockery. “Truly pathetic human beings they are.”
Ah, so he was talking about your parents…That made it had some sense, but— “That’s not true.” You opened your mouth, looking up at him with eyes that still carried so much innocence in them. This man could just hurl with envy. “…Mother and Father were struggling every day, but they tried their best.”
“We don’t have enough money, but they made sure I was never hungry and loved.” You said, looking down on the ground—Reliving past memories makes you too emotional, so you wished you wouldn’t have to shed a tear…You swore to your Mother that you would stay strong, but you can’t help but miss them now. “I never thought that they were pathetic at all. So, please…”
“Don’t speak bad about them.” Your speech turned into a plea as you bowed respectfully. Extra details aside, if there was one thing that your parents had constantly reminded you of—It was to be respectful…Most especially with a guy quite like this one.
You heard the man huffed, crossing his arms. “Ridiculous.” He rolled his eyes. “If they tried their best, then how did it come to this? Why did it reach a point where they even have to sell their own daughter to pay off the debts that they owed?”
You stayed silent, not really because you don’t have an answer but because you simply didn’t feel like answering the question. It dampens your mood. “Face it. Rather than seeing you as a daughter, you were but a bargaining chip to them.” He continues to talk though. “They kept you healthy so that you can sell at a high price, nobody wants a defective product after all…This was the outcome that they were going for.”
Glancing to the side, you remained silent—Almost making the guy smirk in victory, thinking that he had succeeded on opening your eyes to your cruel reality…But it came as a shock to him when your lips slowly formed into a smile. “…Did you know my Mother cried when she left?” You asked, not caring if he’ll respond or not. “Everything else could’ve been a lie, but…I believed those tears were real.”
“Because in the end, they were still kind enough to teach me what it felt like to be loved.”
You didn’t realize your eyes were watering up, tears slowly forming in your sockets. Soon, it began streaming down your cheeks one by one—You wanted to wipe them away but again, the chains and cuffs were too heavy…Gosh, you really do miss them a lot, it actually hurts. You looked back onto the ground, worried that the guy might feel insulted by the tears, so you try to hold them back as much as possible. Luckily, he did not say anything for a few seconds, making you think that he probably had lost interest in continuing the conversation—Which was fine, it’s difficult for you to talk like this too. But you soon tensed up as you heard footsteps coming closer to you, along with the slight ringing of accessories clinging against each other around his outfit
Before you knew it, there was a hand on your chin—Tilting your head upward and there, you blinked as you saw the features of his face so clearly for the first time. “…You do know that I don’t exactly have any use for you, right?” He said, coldly. “Your parents advertised you as helpful and obedient—But we have a lot of those already.”
“Honestly, the real reason you were so valuable as payment to the Fatui was because of that little toy you have over there.” He gestured towards your side, right at the dangling elemental ornament tied around your waist…This heavy thing? Your Vision? It’s a mystery to you too, an item that you woke up wrapped around your hands one day. Your parents told you it was a blessing from the gods and since it was useful, you kept it. “Vision-bearers are looked down upon here, but you were accepted just so they could live off from the irony of it all.”
“Someone who was blessed by the gods, and yet, was sold as a slave. Hilarous, isn’t it?” He said, but rather as a joke—It was a threat that had you shivering for a moment…But you tried hard not to show it on your face, your father once told you to never look intimidated in front of the higher-ups, or you’ll lose your worth. However, the man unexpectedly laughed—A deranged, humorless laughter. “But it’s because they have such a boring sense of humor that I change my mind…I’ll take you in, why not?”
You blinked in confusion, your eyes darting around everywhere in search of answers before going back to him immediately. “…Why is that?” You asked as politely as you could, not wanting to be on his bad side. A drop of sweat trailed down the side of your forehead as a part of you felt rather disturbed, nervous of the situation…You thought you were going to service the whole Fatui, not just him. Was this guy really that powerful to have a slave bought all to himself?
“You simply disagreed with me, that’s all.” He said, roughly letting go of your jaw. But not before wiping away tears on one of your eye with his thumb. Something tells you that it wasn’t just an act of kindness at all. “The sheer audacity to disagree with a Harbinger…I can’t possibly tolerate that kind of behavior.”
His hand then went down to the heavy metallic cuffs around your hands, sparks of electro slowly manifesting around the air. You can feel little hairs on your skin stood up on its end and tiny shocks went through you as the voltage became higher and higher, showing just how powerful his control of the element really is. “Maybe I’ll teach you what working under a Harbinger is really like, so that you—“ You flinched as his other hand flicked your forehead with a smirk, he surprisingly looks like he’s having fun…If you ignored the crazy in his eyes. “—Will never talk back to me again.”
In that instant, the cuffs of your wrists just…exploded into millions of pieces. You shut your eyes to protect them, stumbling back from the shockwave it caused. It took you a while to regain your position, staring at your shaking hands and reliving the taste of freedom once again. “Do you get all that?” He asked, crossing his arms as he watched you do the things you couldn’t do with your hands before—Tuck strands of hair away from your face and wiped your eyes completely off of tears. “Starting from now on, I own you and you will do everything I ask of you.”
You gulped, before looking down—Your heart was actually racing really fast and nervous sweat was all over your forehead. Your hand unconsciously gripped the Vision by your side and for a second there, you thought of trying to escape with it. It does hold the element of Barbatos, the God of Freedom…Or at least, that’s what your parents said, so perhaps the wind will help you like they said?
But unfortunately, instead of thinking of a plan, you shook your head and hold your hand out with the Anemo Vision towards the guy. “…Understood.” You barely have enough time to resonate with your own Vision, it was given to you just a little bit too late. Why would you even think something like escaping when this man just displayed just how dangerous he can be? You may be young and bold, but you weren’t stupid. Your parents didn’t raise you just to die like that. “I…will make sure to use this Vision just for you, Master.”
You bowed one last time, but the man did nothing but blink—Not even remotely impressed by your words of service. Time and time again, he heard the same old words from different kinds of people to prove their loyalty towards him. Yours doesn’t even sound professional at all, clearly inexperienced…But that naivety is what intrigues him—You are but a child compared to him, a child who knows nothing about this world you were forced to step in. He wondered when that would last, how long will it take for that blind optimism of yours to dwindle down? He stepped back, scoffing as he disregarded the Vision you held out for him before turning around and continuing the business he originally had.
“…That’s Lord Scaramouche for you.”

Been thinking about Dark!D*ny and
I think for me, it comes down to two things:
The utter hypocrisy re: her supposed abolitionist ways
The escalation of her power and the destruction she wreaks
Because I can't really fault her for smothering Drogo. I can't really fault her for letting Viserys die. I can't really fault her for murdering the shit out of Kraznys. I can't fault her for freeing slaves (as if). I can't even fault her for wanting revenge.
Let me explain-
I think if we compare the capture of the Lhazareen and the capture of Meereen, it paints a very clear picture of where D*ny is headed.
The Lhazareen
Ok. First, the whole 'D*ny has no power' argument has to stop. She's the khaleesi. Her husband is the khal. Of course she has power.
I'm NOT saying Drogo isn't absolutely monstrous to her. I'm not saying she chose to marry him. I'm not commenting on their relationship at all.
In a patriarchy, (upper class) women gain property/power/control over others in exchange for sexual/reproductive service. So D*ny, simply by virtue of being the khal's wife, or simply because she's pregnant with his kid (neither of which were her choice) has power.
For comparison, Cersei, who is abused by her husband, the king, still derives power from her position as Queen and mother of the princes/princess. See what I mean?
?? Drogo decides they're gonna sail to Westeros and gives his rousing speech because D*ny was almost assassinated. The attack on the Lhazareen was done in service of D*ny's conquest of Westeros. Let's repeat.
The Lhazareen were attacked to further D*ny's interests.
The Lhazareen were attacked to further D*ny's interests.
No, it wasn't for Rhaego, he's a fucking foetus he doesn't HAVE interests. It's not for Drogo, he doesn't give two shits about Westeros. IT"S FOR D*NY. And that is her 'power' in action. Her power, that she derives through her husband, because PatRiarChy. But power.
And you know what? Sure. It's fine. She didn't know what a bloodbath it was going to be. That's not her fault. And yeah, she IS ready to accept the bloodshed as necessary collateral. That is...a bit more questionable. But she does try to help some women.
Does she only help them because she can see their suffering? Probably. There's plenty of suffering not in her direct line of sight that she allows. But ok. Sure. It's not her job to save everyone (nevermind that they're suffering to further her interests).
The whole 'save them by marrying them to their rapists' thing makes me more sad than enraged. It's tragic. It's D*ny, making women marry their rapists in the same book where she married her rapist...thinking she's ok, thinking they would be ok too. It's the cycle of abuse in motion, right before our eyes.
This is an explanation I accept. All that bullshit about how powerless D*ny is? Pls. Women and children are being enslaved right there on the same page, so D*ny can win the IT, and she's powerless ?? stfu
Ok. I get it. She's not powerless, but how far does her power extend? COULD she have gotten away with getting all the newly enslaved Lhazareen freed? We'll never know. Does that absolve her?
Slaves, Dany thought. Khal Drogo would drive them downriver to one of the towns on Slaver's Bay. She wanted to cry, but she told herself that she must be strong. This is war, this is what it looks like, this is the price of the Iron Throne.
NO.
This- the capture and enslavement of the Lhazareen people- is a direct consequence of Viserys' ambitions, which is a torch that D*ny has now willingly taken up. THAT ^^^ is a price she's willing to pay, or rather- make others pay.
Buuuut it's fine. She's inexperienced, and her power is certainly limited, and hey she tried. Sure. Moving on.
Meereen
(TW: mentions of rape)
Fast forward four books and D*ny is approximately 100x times more powerful than she was in the Lhazareen scene. Let's see how she does now-
A boy came, younger than Dany, slight and scarred, dressed up in a frayed grey tokar trailing silver fringe. His voice broke when he told of how two of his father's household slaves had risen up the night the gate broke. One had slain his father, the other his elder brother. Both had raped his mother before killing her as well. The boy had escaped with no more than the scar upon his face, but one of the murderers was still living in his father's house, and the other had joined the queen's soldiers as one of the Mother's Men. He wanted them both hanged.
I am queen over a city built on dust and death. Dany had no choice but to deny him. She had declared a blanket pardon for all crimes committed during the sack. Nor would she punish slaves for rising up against their masters.
xxx
A former slave came, to accuse a certain noble of the Zhak. The man had recently taken to wife a freedwoman who had been the noble's bedwarmer before the city fell. The noble had taken her maidenhood, used her for his pleasure, and gotten her with child. Her new husband wanted the noble gelded for the crime of rape, and he wanted a purse of gold as well, to pay him for raising the noble's bastard as his own. Dany granted him the gold, but not the gelding. "When he lay with her, your wife was his property, to do with as he would. By law, there was no rape." Her decision did not please him, she could see, but if she gelded every man who ever forced a bedslave, she would soon rule a city of eunuchs.
SO anyway how is D*ny rating on the 'tried to prevent rape' scale?
She even went so far as to summon Irri, hoping her caresses might help ease her way to rest, but after a short while she pushed the Dothraki girl away. Irri was sweet and soft and willing, but she was not Daario.
Oh look she's in the negative :/
How's she doing on the slavery front? She's got all the power now...
"Your slave Missandei." Jhiqui had a taper in her hand.
"My servant. I have no slaves." Dany did not understand. "Why does she weep?"
xxx
There was no slavery in the free city of Pentos. Nonetheless, they were slaves.
...
D*enerys spends five books gaining power. How does this affect the condition of her people? Is the condition of the Meereenese better than the condition of the Lhazareen had been, all the way back in the first book? No. It's worse.
People have still been raped. People have still been enslaved/remained enslaved. People have starved. People have been brutally murdered. And at a much larger scale than book 1.
This is what it comes down to. D*ny is a villain because her climb to power is characterized by death and destruction, always. Isn't that the trademark of a villain?
D*ny is a girl who truly believes in her own PR, but when you look at her words and actions-
"The Good Master has said that these eunuchs cannot be tempted with coin or flesh," Dany told the girl, "but if some enemy of mine should offer them freedom for betraying me . . ."
"They would kill him out of hand and bring her his head, tell her that," the slaver answered. "Other slaves may steal and hoard up silver in hopes of buying freedom, but an Unsullied would not take it if the little mare offered it as a gift. They have no life outside their duty. They are soldiers, and that is all."
xxx
"No," she pleaded. "Save him, and I will free you, I swear it. You must know a way … some magic, some …"
...how much of her actions are truly altruistic? How much is performative?
Despite her anti-slavery rhetoric, D*ny consistently benefits from slavery- and slavery flourishes.
Despite her 'oh no I don't wanna bring death and destruction anywhere', her actions continue to bring exactly that- and it never stops her from doing it all over again the next time.
Not to dismiss her internal struggle. But really. Being upset at the thought that you might be a bad person doesn't make you a good person. For that matter, being worried if you're going mad or not...doesn't mean you're not (not that I'm saying she is). Seriously, where did that logic even come from? Ultimately, her internal struggle makes her a more compelling character, sure, but it doesn't actually make her a better person.
The point is, her story is absolutely rooted in hypocrisy. Her destructiveness only escalates with her power. Her so-called good intentions never pan out- because her own actions undermine them. And because she has the self-awareness of a pigeon, she never gets better.
She IS the villain who thinks she's a hero. She isn't just a villain because she's done bad things, but because she's utterly unaware (or deliberately obtuse) of the bad things she's done, and so she's incapable of learning, and so she's only getting worse.
Take a step outside her POV and it suddenly becomes clear.
Let's recap.
D*ny has-
Wayy more power in Meereen. Less in Lhazareen
D*ny did-
Less to prevent rape in Meereen. More in Lhazareen
D*ny benefitted from-
Slavery in Meereen. Slavery in Lhazareen
D*ny was-
A slaver in Meereen. A slaver in Lhazareen
D*ny wreaked-
Death and destruction in Meereen. Death and destruction in Lhazareen.
D*ny, riding high on her power-
Ordered the murder of children. And much more.
Power is NOT good for D*ny.

@arts-of-our-titans said: saying that the cities she came to were completely trashed is not a statement in support of slavery. but implying that the state of slavers bay before dany was in anyway “peaceful” or “green” is. you clearly do not understand the weight of what a slave state means, for you to make that comparison. as for dany owning slaves. stop talking out of your ass. dany does not have any slaves. you are creating scenarios in your head, literally.
please mention one instance where dany “makes” anyone fight for her. list one instance in the books where it seems her so called soldiers are there involuntarily. also mention one lord in westeros who pays his soldiers anything, but food and shelter. i’ll wait. how about you stop blaming the faults of the world george built on dany
also i would love to remind you that we are actually told that many unsullied pay whores to embrace them. if it such a common practice, why was there no question as to where these unsullied were getting the money?
and last but not least, everyone in essos knows the state of slavers bay. and yet other slaves are still hoping for dany… why? because suffering bc you fight to be free is better than suffering as someone’s property. and history has shown that. so yes, i do find your idea of slavers bay very disturbing
You know what, instead of arguing, I'mma just leave these book quotes right here. Also, not even kidding, there were so many book quotes to back up Dany's fake anti-slavery that I had to give up, these were just the ones that jumped out at me the most.
Here's some fun quotes where a fuckton of people around Dany seem to be under the impression that she has slaves, which is pretty weird if she's not treating her "servants" like slaves:
Dany stepped away from her. "No. Irri, you do not need to do that. What happened that night, when you woke . . . you're no bed slave, I freed you, remember? You . . ."
"I am handmaid to the Mother of Dragons," the girl said. "It is great honor to please my khaleesi." - Daenerys II, ASOS
Ser Jorah looked unhappy. "We'll starve long before they do, Your Grace. There's no food here, nor fodder for our mules and horses. I do not like this river water either. Meereen shits into the Skahazadhan but draws its drinking water from deep wells. Already we've had reports of sickness in the camps, fever and brownleg and three cases of the bloody flux. There will be more if we remain. The slaves are weak from the march."
"Freedmen," Dany corrected. "They are slaves no longer." - Daenerys V, ASOS
"Your slave Missandei." Jhiqui had a taper in her hand.
"My servant. I have no slaves." Dany did not understand. "Why does she weep?" - Daenerys II, ADWD
"Not a hole. A ditch, to bring water from the river to the fields. We mean to plant beans. The beanfields must have water."
"How kind of my old friend to help with the digging. And how very unlike him. Is it possible he was given no choice in the matter? No, surely not. You have no slaves in Meereen."
Dany flushed. "Your friend is being paid with food and shelter. I cannot give him back his wealth. Meereen needs beans more than it needs rare spices, and beans require water." - Daenerys III, ADWD
"Can you?" the Green Grace asked. "A king is not a god, but there is still much that a strong man might do. When my people look at you, they see a conqueror from across the seas, come to murder us and make slaves of our children. A king could change that. A highborn king of pure Ghiscari blood could reconcile the city to your rule. Elsewise, I fear, your reign must end as it began, in blood and fire." - Daenerys IV, ADWD
Oh look, and here's some quotes implying that Daenerys pillaged these cities and left them an absolute fucking wreck:
I have given Astapor a butcher king. Dany felt ill, but she knew she must not let the envoy see it. "I will pray that King Cleon rules well and wisely. What would he have of me?" - Daenerys VI, ASOS
All my victories turn to dross in my hands, she thought. Whatever I do, all I make is death and horror. When word of what had befallen Astapor reached the streets, as it surely would, tens of thousands of newly freed Meereenese slaves would doubtless decide to follow her when she went west, for fear of what awaited them if they stayed . . . yet it might well be that worse would await them on the march. Even if she emptied every granary in the city and left Meereen to starve, how could she feed so many?" Daenerys VI, ASOS
That proved to be a forlorn hope. The master of the Indigo Star was Qartheen, so he wept copiously when asked about Astapor. "The city bleeds. Dead men rot unburied in the streets, each pyramid is an armed camp, and the markets have neither food nor slaves for sale. And the poor children! King Cleaver's thugs have seized every highborn boy in Astapor to make new Unsullied for the trade, though it will be years before they are trained." - Daenerys VI, ASOS
Dany turned away from them, to gaze out over the city once again. "My children need time to heal and learn. My dragons need time to grow and test their wings. And I need the same. I will not let this city go the way of Astapor. I will not let the harpy of Yunkai chain up those I've freed all over again." She turned back to look at their faces. "I will not march." - Daenerys VI, ASOS
Her dragons had roared as one in that moment, filling the night with flame. The slaves are rising, she knew at once. My sewer rats have gnawed off their chains.
When the last resistance had been crushed by the Unsullied and the sack had run its course, Dany entered her city. The dead were heaped so high before the broken gate that it took her freedmen near an hour to make a path for her silver. Joso's Cock and the great wooden turtle that had protected it, covered with horsehides, lay abandoned within. She rode past burned buildings and broken windows, through brick streets where the gutters were choked with the stiff and swollen dead. Cheering slaves lifted bloodstained hands to her as she went by, and called her "Mother." - Daenerys VI, ASOS
Cleon the self-styled Great was no better, however. The Butcher King had restored slavery to Astapor, the only change being that the former slaves were now the masters and the former masters were now the slaves. - Daenerys I, ADWD
"I am only a young girl and know little of the ways of war," she told Lord Ghael, "but we have heard that Astapor is starving. Let King Cleon feed his people before he leads them out to battle." She made a gesture of dismissal. Ghael withdrew. - Daenerys I, ADWD
Many and more of the matters brought before her involved redress. Meereen had been sacked savagely after its fall. The stepped pyramids of the mighty had been spared the worst of the ravages, but the humbler parts of the city had been given over to an orgy of looting and killing as the city's slaves rose up and the starving hordes who had followed her from Yunkai and Astapor poured through the broken gates. Her Unsullied had finally restored order, but the sack left a plague of problems in its wake. And so they came to see the queen. - Daenerys I, ADWD
Xaro took no notice of the sally. "Daenerys, let me be honest with you, as befits a friend. You will not make Meereen rich and fat and peaceful. You will only bring it to destruction, as you did Astapor. - Daenerys III, ADWD
"None. I no longer lust for dragons. I saw their work at Astapor on my way here, when my Silken Cloud put in for water." - Daenerys III, ADWD
"I will not abandon Meereen to the fate of Astapor. It grieves me to say so, but Westeros must wait." - Daenerys III, ADWD
Frog would be glad to put Astapor behind him. The Red City was the closest thing to hell he ever hoped to know. The Yunkai'i had sealed the broken gates to keep the dead and dying inside the city, but the sights that he had seen riding down those red brick streets would haunt Quentyn Martell forever. A river choked with corpses. The priestess in her torn robes, impaled upon a stake and attended by a cloud of glistening green flies. Dying men staggering through the streets, bloody and befouled. Children fighting over half-cooked puppies. The last free king of Astapor, screaming naked in the pit as he was set on by a score of starving dogs. And fires, fires everywhere. He could close his eyes and see them still: flames whirling from brick pyramids larger than any castle he had ever seen, plumes of greasy smoke coiling upward like great black snakes.
When the wind blew from the south, the air smelled of smoke even here, three miles from the city. Behind its crumbling red brick walls, Astapor was still asmolder, though by now most of the great fires had burned out. Ashes floated lazy on the breeze like fat grey snowflakes. It would be good to go. - The Windblown ADWD
Dead Cleon's fall wrote an end to that. The new Unsullied threw down their spears and shields and ran, only to find the gates of Astapor shut behind them. Frog had done his part in the slaughter that followed, riding down the frightened eunuchs with the other Windblown. Hard by the big man's hip he rode, slashing right and left as their wedge went through the Unsullied like a spearpoint. When they burst through on the other side, the Tattered Prince had wheeled them round and led them through again. It was only coming back that Frog got a good look at the faces beneath the spiked bronze caps and realized that most were no older than he. Green boys screaming for their mothers, he'd thought, but he killed them all the same. By the time he'd left the field, his sword was running red with blood and his arm was so tired he could hardly lift it. - The Windblown, ADWD
It was the Tattered Prince himself who did the speaking. "Orders have come down from Yurkhaz," he said. "What Astapori still survive have come creeping from their hidey-holes, it seems. There's nothing left in Astapor but corpses, so they're pouring out into the countryside, hundreds of them, maybe thousands, all starved and sick. The Yunkai'i don't want them near their Yellow City. We've been commanded to hunt them down and turn them, drive them back to Astapor or north to Meereen. If the dragon queen wants to take them in, she's welcome to them. Half of them have the bloody flux, and even the healthy ones are mouths to feed." - The Windblown, ADWD
"Astapor, Your Radiance," said another of the Blue Graces. "He said it, once. He said 'Astapor is burning.' " - Daenerys V, ADWD
Brown Ben Plumm was puzzled. "Who is Eroeh?"
"A girl I thought I'd saved from rape and torment. All I did was make it worse for her in the end. And all I did in Astapor was make ten thousand Eroehs." - Daenerys V, ADWD
Beneath her veils, the Green Grace sighed. "The peace that we worked so hard to forge flutters like a leaf in an autumn wind. These are dire days. Death stalks our streets, riding the pale mare from thrice-cursed Astapor. Dragons haunt the skies, feasting on the flesh of children. Hundreds are taking ship, sailing for Yunkai, for Tolos, for Qarth, for any refuge that will have them. The pyramid of Hazkar has collapsed into a smoking ruin, and many of that ancient line lie dead beneath its blackened stones. The pyramids of Uhlez and Yherizan have become the lairs of monsters, their masters homeless beggars. My people have lost all hope and turned against the gods themselves, giving over their nights to drunkenness and fornication." - The Queen's Hand, ADWD
Also you asked how the Unsullied would pay for prostitutes if they were unpaid and if Daenerys is letting freed slaves take a handful of shit and leaving the rest of an entire city to plunder herself, I have a general idea of where they may have gotten the money:
"I have a gift for you as well." She slammed the chest shut. "Three days. On the morning of the third day, send out your slaves. All of them. Every man, woman, and child shall be given a weapon, and as much food, clothing, coin, and goods as he or she can carry. These they shall be allowed to choose freely from among their masters' possessions, as payment for their years of servitude. When all the slaves have departed, you will open your gates and allow my Unsullied to enter and search your city, to make certain none remain in bondage. If you do this, Yunkai will not be burned or plundered, and none of your people shall be molested. The Wise Masters will have the peace they desire, and will have proved themselves wise indeed. What say you?" - Daenerys IV, ASOS
And some quotes about people being enslaved in Dany's territory for good measure:
His new Unsullied are an obscene jape. "King Cleon would be wise to tend his own gardens and let the Yunkai'i tend theirs." It was not that Dany harbored any love for Yunkai. She was coming to regret leaving the Yellow City untaken after defeating its army in the field. The Wise Masters had returned to slaving as soon as she moved on, and were busy raising levies, hiring sellswords, and making alliances against her.
Cleon the self-styled Great was no better, however. The Butcher King had restored slavery to Astapor, the only change being that the former slaves were now the masters and the former masters were now the slaves.- Daenerys I, ADWD
"We fought the Unsullied at Astapor," the big man said.
"I said real Unsullied. Hacking off some boy's stones with a butcher's cleaver and handing him a pointy hat don't make him Unsullied. That dragon queen's got the real item, the kind that don't break and run when you fart in their general direction." - The Windblown, ADWD
Dany not caring who is a slaver or slave and doing whatever is more beneficial for her, doesn't seem like doing what's just matters more than getting what she needs:
"Very well," Dany said. "Sellsword or slave, spare all those who will pledge me their faith. If enough of the Second Sons will join us, keep the company intact." - Daenerys IV, ASOS
Reznak would have summoned another tokar next, but Dany insisted that he call upon a freedman. Thereafter she alternated between the former masters and the former slaves. - Daenerys I, ADWD
- Daenerys I, ADWD
And finally, some quotes of Daenerys directly permitting, attempting to take advantage of, if not outright benefiting off of slavery herself (or using her anti-slavery quest as a means of acquiring people to act as slaves for her in all but name):
There is wisdom in this, yes, Dany thought, but . . . "How am I to buy a thousand slave soldiers? All I have of value is the crown the Tourmaline Brotherhood gave me." - Daenerys I, ASOS
"It is soldiers I need," Dany admitted. - Daenerys II, ASOS
"My queen," said Arstan, "there have been no slaves in the Seven Kingdoms for thousands of years. The old gods and the new alike hold slavery to be an abomination. Evil. If you should land in Westeros at the head of a slave army, many good men will oppose you for no other reason than that. You will do great harm to your cause, and to the honor of your House."
"Yet I must have some army," Dany said. "The boy Joffrey will not give me the Iron Throne for asking politely." - Daenerys II, ASOS
"Missandei is no longer a slave. I free you, from this instant. Come ride with me in the litter, I wish to talk." Rakharo helped them in, and Dany drew the curtains shut against the dust and heat. "If you stay with me you will serve as one of my handmaids," she said as they set off. "I shall keep you by my side to speak for me as you spoke for Kraznys. But you may leave my service whenever you choose, if you have father or mother you would sooner return to."
"This one will stay," the girl said. "This one . . . I . . . there is no place for me to go. This . . . I will serve you, gladly." - Daenerys III, ASOS
"If battle is joined, let Grey Worm show wisdom as well as valor," Dany told him. "Spare any slave who runs or throws down his weapon. The fewer slain, the more remain to join us after." - Daenerys VI, ASOS
"My queen?" Daario stepped forward. "The riverside is full of Meereenese, begging leave to be allowed to sell themselves to this Qartheen. They are thicker than the flies."
Dany was shocked. "They want to be slaves?"
"The ones who come are well spoken and gently born, sweet queen. Such slaves are prized. In the Free Cities they will be tutors, scribes, bed slaves, even healers and priests. They will sleep in soft beds, eat rich foods, and dwell in manses. Here they have lost all, and live in fear and squalor."
"I see." Perhaps it was not so shocking, if these tales of Astapor were true. Dany thought a moment. "Any man who wishes to sell himself into slavery may do so. Or woman." She raised a hand. "But they may not sell their children, nor a man his wife."
"In Astapor the city took a tenth part of the price, each time a slave changed hands," Missandei told her.
"We'll do the same," Dany decided. Wars were won with gold as much as swords. "A tenth part. In gold or silver coin, or ivory. Meereen has no need of saffron, cloves, or zorse hides." - Daenerys VI, ASOS
They had freed their slaves, yes … only to hire them back as servants at wages so meagre that most could scarce afford to eat. Those too old or young to be of use had been cast into the streets, along with the infirm and the crippled. And still the Great Masters gathered atop their lofty pyramids to complain of how the dragon queen had filled their noble city with hordes of unwashed beggars, thieves, and whores. - Daenerys I, ADWD
"A poor city that once was rich. A hungry city that once was fat. A bloody city that once was peaceful."
His accusations stung. There was too much truth in them. "Meereen will be rich and fat and peaceful once again, and free as well. Go to the Dothraki if you must have slaves." - Daenerys III, ADWD
"The Yunkai'i will resume slaving, as before. Astapor will be rebuilt, as a slave city. You will not interfere."
"The Yunkai'i resumed their slaving before I was two leagues from their city. Did I turn back? King Cleon begged me to join with him against them, and I turned a deaf ear to his pleas. I want no war with Yunkai. How many times must I say it? What promises do they require?" - Daenerys VI, ADWD
Meereenese seldom rode within their city walls. They preferred palanquins, litters, and sedan chairs, borne upon the shoulders of their slaves. "Horses befoul the streets," one man of Zakh had told her, "slaves do not." Dany had freed the slaves, yet palanquins, litters, and sedan chairs still choked the streets as before, and none of them floated magically through the air. - Daenerys VII, ADWD
"They are permitting that, yes," she had replied, "but their warships remain. They can close their fingers around our throat again whenever they wish. They have opened a slave market within sight of my walls!"
"Outside our walls, sweet queen. That was a condition of the peace, that Yunkai would be free to trade in slaves as before, unmolested."
"In their own city. Not where I have to see it." The Wise Masters had established their slave pens and auction block just south of the Skahazadhan, where the wide brown river flowed into Slaver's Bay. "They are mocking me to my face, making a show of how powerless I am to stop them."
"Posing and posturing," said her noble husband. "A show, as you have said. Let them have their mummery. When they are gone, we will make a fruit market of what they leave behind."
"When they are gone," Dany repeated. "And when will they be gone? Riders have been seen beyond the Skahazadhan. Dothraki scouts, Rakharo says, with a khalasar behind them. They will have captives. Men, women, and children, gifts for the slavers." Dothraki did not buy or sell, but they gave gifts and received them. "That is why the Yunkai'i have thrown up this market. They will leave here with thousands of new slaves."
Hizdahr zo Loraq shrugged. "But they will leave. That is the important part, my love. Yunkai will trade in slaves, Meereen will not, this is what we have agreed. Endure this for a little while longer, and it shall pass." - Daenerys VIII, ADWD
All of the entertainers were slaves. That had been part of the peace, that slaveowners be allowed the right to bring their chattels into Meereen without fear of having them freed. In return the Yunkai'i had promised to respect the rights and liberties of the former slaves that Dany had freed. A fair bargain, Hizdahr said, but the taste it left in the queen's mouth was foul. She drank another cup of wine to wash it out. - Daenerys VIII, ADWD

Sun knew Master Andy wasn’t very happy about this, so he just hoped his anger didn’t fell over him. It was a stupid hope. It was his fault what happened. He had begged Master to come to this playdate, and… There was always a price for good things. But he just… Missed it. Missed being treated like a pet should. Like he wished for so long to be treated. He was jealous of that pet. Andy treated him weirdly, and Abby had just been cruel. He only ever wanted a kind owner that knew what he was.
Well, at least he and the girl - Bianca, if he recalled - seemed to get along somewhat, as they greeted each other and made some chit-chat on the door. She petted his hair, even, before turning inside the house and whistling.
Sun peeked up, seeing another pet running to the door. They had a big smile on their face, big puppy eyes, and a pretty fabric collar on their neck. They kneeled and bumped against their mistress hand, and got some headpats! Fuck. He wished he had that.
“...See? This is the new friend I said was coming over. His name is Sunflower” She explained to the pet, who looked over Andy and Sun curiously “Sun, this is Whiskey”
“Hi” Sun says shyly. The pet… Just smiles windly, hopping back on his feet excitedly, and grabs Sun’s wrist, pulling him inside and into the room he came from.
Sun stumbles behind him, as he is dragged to a small room. It has a kid-sized bed, a little wardrobe decorated with stickers, and toys all over the floor. He barely gets any time before Whiskey starts shoving some toys towards him, telling him which ones he likes more, the name of the plushies.
...He seems.. Happy. Sun takes a better look around - even accommodations are nice - no shackles, cages or chains. Soft painted walls. No bars on the windows, soft curtains, a lot of sunlight. The mess makes him a little nervous… But that’s him, not something inherently bad, right?
And Whiskey has no scars. He seems healthy, a soft rosy to his cheeks, shiny hair and eyes. And he speaks freely, as if not afraid. So why does something still itch on the back of his mind? Sun can’t tell, but Little tiny words scraped from the awful, awful therapist he is forced to see. They make you dependent. They treat you like a child.
“This one is my favorite” Whiskey says, shoving a board game towards him “Let’s play? Please?”
“...Sure. Hm, what’s the rules?” And while Sun hates that word, the pet barely reacts, going over the rules of the game, setting up the board, as if rules never meant pain, only instructions.
They play for a while, and he tries to chit chat soft topics… But there is a distance. Something he feels… and the other pet doesn’t seem to.
“Hey… hm… Is… Is your Mistress.. nice?” He tries, changing the subject from his favorite shows on Pet TV. Sun hates Pet TV.
“YEah!” They smile “She is the best. I get lots of treats and watch TV when she isn’t home. I’m very good at my tasks” They seem proud “I do the dishes!”
“And… Hm. Don’t you… Don’t you ever feel… weird? About this all?”
They tilt their head and smile again, as if legitimately confused.
“No? I feel hungry sometimes” they giggle “...But Mistress says I can’t eat candy before lunch so…”
“Don’t you… Hm, wanna see what’s out there?”
“I do! Mistress takes it on walks!” Again, another smile, so proud.
...He looks up to the board. Somehow, he feels sick. He throws the dice anyway.
“...You… You remember anything… From before?”
...And something just changes on his face, just for a second. He seems angry, almost. But then, he smiles back.
“I don’t want to talk about training. I’m good already” and he throws the dice back, moving his piece past Sun “...Your turn”
...He nods and plays again, trying to shove those thoughts out of his mind.
