“Baaabe,” you hear Mingi call out as he enters your shared apartment, “I’m baaack.”

You stand up from the kitchen stool you were perched on, brushing off imaginary dust before greeting your boyfriend of a year at the door. “Hey, Mingi,” you smile at him while he prefers a more exuberant greeting—a hug. He sweeps you into his arms easily, pressing a soft kiss on your head while you pat his back gingerly.

“How was work?” you ask as you pull away, smiling at the messy hair atop Mingi’s head. “I see something messed up your hair?”

Mingi laughs, reaching up and attempting to fix it in vain. “You can blame Wooyoung for that, the brat that he is.”

You hum, fully stepping out of Mingi’s arms and heading back to your spot on the couch. “I left your dinner in the microwave. If you want, we could watch a movie when and if I finish these reports?”

Mingi frowns a little at that. “You’re still doing those? When I called you at lunch break you were working on them.”

You sigh, taking a seat and pulling your laptop back towards you. “Unfortunately, I am. My boss hired some new people so I’m stuck training them while he’s on vacation.” You mumble a few obscenities under your breath but it doesn’t go unnoticed by Mingi. “But hopefully I’ll have this finished in an hour.”

“Aren’t you literally just a regular employee?” Mingi’s voice moves closer to you and you can see him peeking at your computer screen in your peripheral. “Why are you training them?”

“I am indeed just an entry-level employee, yes,” you explain, pinching the bridge of your nose and you feel your headache from this afternoon still pulsing behind your eyes. “Lord knows why I get all of this work for my usual wage.”

“Are you literally translating documents?” Mingi leans even closer and the email between you and your new coworker answers his own question. And despite the pain in your head and the annoyance at work, you can’t help but smile at Mingi’s bad eyesight. “Dude, you’re not even getting paid for this?”

His hand pushes down the lid of your laptop and you can’t even find it in you to protest more than a light whine of his name. “No, (Y/N), do it tomorrow. You’re doing this on your own time, and you’re not getting compensated properly. Take a break for the rest of the night.”

You sigh and Mingi fixes you with such a look that you can’t help but snort. “Yes, yes.” You pause for a moment and then sigh. “Sorry for being snarky. I know you just want me to take care of myself.”

Mingi sighs, dropping his head onto yours as his large, warm hands cup your face. “I know, baby. It’s hard, but you’ll get through it. Love you?”

“Mmh, love you,” you mumble into his hair. “Let’s watch that movie now.”

More Shen Jiu fanfiction thoughts

I've never been a fan of the Shen Jiu Goes Nuts and Kills the Other Peak Lords fics. i've read some but its just sighs!

I know he's a bad person but it is so hard for me to imagine him laying a finger on Yue Qingyuan. He thinks the guy abandoned him and still tries to save him from LBG. I repeat, he thinks Yue doesn't value him at that time.

I know a lot of fans go too far and make Shen Jiu some misunderstand saint. But I also think a lot of Shen Jiu fics, ignore that loyalty is a strong quality of his. He's stingy with it due to trust issues being petty over slights.

However, when someone has it SJ has a really hard time turning it off. I honestly think Yue could turn him over to LBG, a thousand times and he'd still try to push him away to keep hm safe.

Also, he tried to save Liu Qingge twice. He might not get along with the other peak lords. But I think he might actually care about them. I think its kinda implied their the closest thing he's got to family. Cang Qiong Mountain is the only home he's ever known.

Also, people think SJ who doesn't even value himself, and who didn't speak up at his trial. Hates the Peak Lords for turning him over? SJ's hate sink is reserved for innocent kids who remind him too much of himself (LBH) and actual slave masters/ his abusers. He gave himself up with the Peak on the line.

Also it misses the point of Svsss when you just swap Binghee and Shen Jiu's roles, because its just playing that rightious revenge power fantasy straight. Which is the opposite of the message of the story.
