Sometimes I forget just how much DanTDM shaped my childhood cuz so much of that brain space is taken by Ninjago I forget there was like. Other stuff going on in my life. I wrote a DanTDM fan song guys. I "protested" dabbing in middle school when the "Dab Police" were a thing. Mimicking his voice got me into doing impressions. What the hell.

what i know about dolly so far…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
dolly is my newsies oc!!! never thought i’d be making ocs but here we are 😔 honestly though i’m kinda loving it 🫣 don’t tell anyone though cause it’s low-key embarrassing 😬 i haven’t set this in a specific newsies universe so i just flip flop in my head with whatever cast member i prefer for certain characters which i know is the universal newsie fan experience 🤭 i am open for suggestions or questions for dolly so if you have any send them in 💋 don’t be mean though otherwise i will cry 💪
• she gets called dolly because one of the newsies (haven’t decided who yet but probably race) remarked how much she looked like a doll when they all first met her ( i haven’t decided how old she was when she arrived but still pretty young)
• her real name is dorothea clara quinn.
• she lived with them all up until until the age of 12 as klopperman thought that it might not be best for a group of horny teenage boys to have unfiltered access to a blossoming young woman 😳
• she’s 16
• she moved in to stay with medda, who absolutely loves her despite their differences in nature. dolly’s a lot more reserved then medda so she earns her keep by sewing costumes for the performances as she’d never perform. dolly and medda have a very sisterly dynamic <3
• when dolly first moved in with medda she stopped selling. as medda obviously provided for her. but now she has decided that in order to ensure a better future for herself and a family one day she wants to open a sewing shop. so she’s returned to selling to get money to save for that.
• she’s a real mother figure to the younger newsies. she’s always making clothes, baking cakes and reading books to them. they love making her play peter pan with them. she’s always wendy 👒
• her closet friends are jojo, crutchie + splint <3
• she’s soft spoken and shy but she’s not naive. growing up poor and hungry means that she knows how to play to her strengths. she knew how to use the “i’m a sweet, weak girl” card very well and she finds that it still comes in handy more often than not when selling.
• she really enjoys sewing (particularly embroidery), baking, gardening and playing the piano (she plays it during medda and the bowery beauties performances)
• despite not living in the lodging house anymore she still goes there frequently especially to tend to the small garden which she’s cultivated up on the roof 🪴
• she wears a lace off white dress (similar to the one cecelia wears in the virgin suicides), a pink ribbon round her hair, a golden heart locket, lace socks and brown boots
• because she’s made by me you best believe she’s the most coquette, romantic academia, cottagecore girlie there ever was 🌸
• i picture her hair looking like the one in the photo but i don’t know too much about her appearance yet.
• when she laughs she snorts something which she’s really embarrassed of ☹️
• her love interest (i don’t know who that is yet but i know i want an opposite attract dynamic for them so suggest a newsies boy pretty please!!!) calls her doll <3
i actually really love her she’s so so cute ☹️☹️☹️

Today's Theme Song: Blessed be the Name of the Lord
Artist: Newsboys album: “Devotion” (2004) “Blessed Be Your Name” Blessed be Your nameIn the land that is plentifulWhere your streams of abundance flowBlessed be Your name And blessed be Your nameWhen I’m found in the desert placeThough I walk through the wildernessBlessed be Your name [Pre-Chorus:]Every blessing You pour outI’ll turn back to praiseWhen the darkness closes in, LordStill I will…

2D NEWSIES: What I would change
I just realised I've been making fake concept art for a nonexistent animated Newsies adaptation for four years now. Over time, I've been getting so many ideas for this adaptation if it ever became real, I thought I would share them with you guys! This includes story changes, cut and additional songs and ideas for characters and style. I would love to know your thoughts on these!
When I started making concept art for "2dsies" as I came to be called, I intended for it to be based on the Broadway version and the Broadway version only. However, stories on stage differ a lot from stories told on screen, it just doesn't work the same way. I do still prefer the storyline of Broadway Newsies, but I think the best version would be a combination of the best parts of all different versions, plus some necessary changes. I would want Newsies to be a love letter to every production we've had, to everyone who made happen and every theatre kid who's been geeking out over it since 1992, while also being its own standalone movie that can be enjoyed by anybody. I am in no way an adequate screenwriter, these are just a few suggestions I have for a better story!
Story
Like I said, the story will be based mainly on the Broadway storyline, meaning we still have Artist Jack, Katherine, and most elements from the show that aren't in the movie. It will, however, be quite different from the show and the movie, and maybe add some more of the real events from the newsboy strike. There are still some details and scenes I would like to add and some I would remove completely.
- I like the history lesson opening from the movie, it gives people just enough background information on the real historical events the story is based on. I don't know if it should be Racetrack or Jack narrating, though.
- In Santa Fe (prologue), Crutchie mentions he's afraid the other boys will find out about his bad leg, even though they all literally know him as Crutchie, and it seems to be the first time Jack tells him about his dream of going to Santa Fe, even though they've clearly been best friends for a long time. It feels off, UNLESS they only just met, which is why I love @raggedy-albert 's theory so much. I would have the scene start off with them as kids, and have them grow up throughout the song.
- I want to add a scene in the beginning of Katherine at the New York Sun to establish her character and motivations, and possibly a little foreshadowing. Just an idea for a scene; she goes to the editor to let him read her story covering the trolley strike, but he reminds her of "her place" and that she's lucky enough to be in the position she's in and that she should go review a vaudeville or something. This would not only give her a similar motivation to the newsies, but also, if we're gonna bring the women's rights movement into the story let's do it right!
- Of course I'd also like to add more romantic interactions between Jack and Katherine, to make their relationship more believable. However, I don't think they should be a couple immediately after the finale, I was more thinking of an open ending to their relationship where Jack takes his first step to staying in New York by finally asking her out.
- Maybe add the actual scene where Jack and Davey visit Brooklyn instead of having them tell the other newsies what Spot said right before Seize the Day. Show don't tell, you know?
- A scene where Jack visits Crutchie at the refuge, similar to the one in the movie, but with the sadness Jack describes it with in the show. Again, show, don't tell. Show me how Jack visits the place of his nightmares again only to find his best friend in a worse state than ever and being unable to save him.
- Katherine punches Jack after the rally. Give it to me.
- Additional scene after Jack and Katherine's song after the rally where Jack formally apologizes to the newsies. Because in the show it just cuts from "omg he's a sellout *spits on the floor*" to "yay captain Jack is back" and it just doesn't sit right with me.
Songs
- There should be an entirely new Pulitzer song. The Bottom Line is good but by far the most skippable song on the cast recording, and The News Is Getting Better (the off broadway cut song) is a little Better but not quite the evil capitalist song we need.
- Swap Something to Believe In for When I See You Again. It's such a sweet song and I think it suits Jack and Katherine a lot better. It's much more "Neither of us know what tomorrow brings but when I'm with you I know we can change things for the better, even if it's scary but for now let's be here together and forget the world for a bit" instead of "I love you but I'm still gonna chase my cowboy dreams"
- Cut Letter From The Refuge, since my idea was to have this be a scene instead.
- Some lyric changes!
In Santa Fe: "Crutchie's callin' me, he's fine, just too damn slow"
In Once And For All: add this lyric from the movie, "Better to die than to crawl".
In Seize the Day: "Friends of the friendless seize the day, raise up the torch and light the way", not in the song but in the reprise where all the working children of the city gather before the finale.
Additional: "Still it seems like the dream of a boy, not a man", from The Truth About The Moon, a cut song from the movie that was supposed to be sung by Sarah. I don't know where I would put this lyric, but it could be said or sung by Jack as he realises what he's really looking for is not actually Santa Fe.
Characters:
- I want to add more girls to the background newsies, first of all.
- Sarah still won't do anything for the plot, but Davey and Les could mention that they have a sister. She's still canon to me.
- Speaking of Les, let's make him more likeable and also more helpful.
- Snyder has two scary dogs with him at all times.
- Just and idea, maybe Denton could still be a character if we replace Darcy with him, or maybe combine the two. Have him be Katherine's chaperone and friend formally, but also her reporter bestie. They could be a fun journalist duo!
Style
- The movie will still include the iconic choreography, which means it couldn't be fully 2D, but rather a mix between hand drawn and CGI.
-I would love for the backgrounds in the movie to be similar to impressionist and romantic art styles from the 19th century, to really sell how it's a story told from Jack's perspective. Especially his dream-like imaginations of Santa Fe would be brilliant in this style.
- I want to include a lot of weather foreshadowing. Rain right before Seize The Day and the sun breaking through when Davey starts singing. Mist surrounding Snyder and sudden darkness whenever he's near. A beautiful sunset when Jack and Katherine are alone on the rooftop. And of course, partly cloudy, clear by evening. It's such a cool way of visual storytelling when you have a plot that has no magic involved, like in most Disney movies.
- The real people characters' designs (Pulitzer, Hearst, Roosevelt) can be based on political cartoon caricature versions of themselves.
And lastly, quotes from the movie I liked that could be inspiring for the animated movie:
-"When I created the World..." "🙄" and "Where was I?" "You created the World, chief?"
- "No, we'll be just a bunch of angry kids with no money"
-"What, you couldn't stay away?" "Well I guess I can't be something I ain't." "A scab?" "No, smart."
Many of these ideas are still in development. Some might work, some may not, but I will be basing any future work I'll post on here on these ideas. I would love to see you guys  discuss and add on to these!

my brain is fried i'm so overtired I've cried spontaneously at least once a day for the past three days will you please help a girl out with a soft cozy wholesome movie recc please and thank you
I’m so sorry my dear!! I dug to the depths of a bunch of old tag games and my film tag and this is what I came up with!
when I’m strung out I tend to gravitate to movies that will make me happy-cry so this list will at moments tend in that direction. I tried to sort by what was available to stream now, and the sub-lists are in no particular order
if you have amazon prime (the basic package):
Penelope (2006). highly recommend, a funny little modern fairy tale about a lonely young girl searching for a way to break her curse. this one heals something in my heart
Stardust. also highly recommend! a chaotic fairy tale about true love and what a person would do for it.
Street Gang. the Sesame Street documentary. sometimes people are good and they’re trying to make the world a better place and they’re doing it with their friends.
How To Train Your Dragon. it’s a perfectly executed film and the score and animation is gorgeous. (also available on netflix)
if you have netflix:
Feel the Beat. a dance flick about a seemingly cold-hearted ambitious young woman becoming a dance teacher in her hometown
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. so so so rewatchable.
She’s the Man. the funniest movie on this list and possibly of all time. I have never shown this movie to a person who didn’t end up loving it. it’s Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at boarding school as a soccer movie
if you have tubi?? you might not need a membership I don’t know how tubi works??
The Music Man. some of the best costumes and choreography my favorite age of movie musicals had to offer. a con man comes to a small Iowa town and starts to want to believe in the beautiful lie he’s selling.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. this movie was written by Roald Dahl and it is buck wild. widowed inventor and his two children buy a broken down racing car and?? hijinks and musical numbers ensue
if you have disney plus:
Princess Diaries (1&2). we know them, we love them.
Sky High. if you haven’t seen this, I highly recommend it because it is silly fun but it understands the genre it’s playing with.
Newsies (1992). scrappy newsboys form a union, sing songs, punch each other, ???, profit
Holes. the single best adapted book to film ever? the cast commentary is also hilarious
Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella (1997). absolutely delightful. Whitney Houston as the godmother! Jason Alexander as the butler! Brandy as Cinderella! Bernadette Peters as the stepmother!
if you feel up for a trip to the library, things to look for:
The Hundred Foot Journey. I only saw this one once but it’s about a family who opens up an Indian restaurant across from a Michelin-starred French restaurant and it’s gorgeous
A League of Their Own (1992). sisters! best friends! married women and their disreputable drunk coach friends!
The Secret Garden (1993). highly recommend! this one fixes me down to my bones.
This Beautiful Fantastic. also highly recommend! a woman who’s afraid of the world falls in love with it.
Secondhand Lions. also highly recommend!! a boy gets dropped off with his great-uncles for the summer, hears possibly made-up stories of their wild and adventurous youth
August Rush. a young musical prodigy searches for his parents.
Sense and Sensibility (1995). if you need Austen energy, this is the one.
Cinderella (2015). this movie is so gentle and so lovely.
Little Women (1994). life is gonna be hard and sad but it’s gonna be beautiful and the love will endure!!!
I hope this helps and I hope you feel better! ❤️❤️

I have a newsie headcannon on how Medda and Jack met !
Jack was 12 and drawing on a newspaper he didn't manage to sell whilst sitting in an alleyway near the stage door of the Bowery. The drawing was one of his drawings of the refuge.
Medda had come out of the stage door and saw him. He didn't notice but was muttering the lyrics of the song she sung in the theatre that night whilst drawing. He was so caught up in his own world.
Medda tapped his shoulder and he shot up and turned to her because he thought it was Mr Snyder. She calmed him down and looked over at his sketch.
He told her about the refuge and Snyder and she led him back to the Newsboy Lodge whilst having a friendly chat with him.
They soon became friends and she asked him more about his art skills. He showed her many drawings and most of them were of his life as a newsboy.
She then asked him if he wanted to paint for her and he agreed and started painting her backdrops.

Rainy landscapes were your guilty pleasure. That and numerous other things, but the rainy scenery was something special. What's not there to love? The neutral colouring of the sky, the scent of fresh rain, the appearance of watered foliage and plants; it was like a painting brought to life. Rain meant comfort to you. People who complain about foggy days truly boggle you. Yes, the baby blue skies are indeed pretty, but the sun’s bright shine is too much to handle.
This is what the outside of your train window looked like, and your eyes were completely fixated on it. They darted back and forth, observing every single object you could, making small notes in your head. The train rocked back and forth, bobbing your head up and stirring a nauseous feeling in your stomach. It was customary.
"How's the scenery?" Leon asked, tilting his head and watched as you tilted your head first, then your eyes towards him.
"Hm? Oh, yeah. Isn't it beautiful?"
"It is," he responded. He wasn't looking towards the window. You knew that for a fact. Stoic and cheesy Leon, that's how you knew him. You knew his little quirks, how he checks his watch at 4 minute intervals and how he always picks the skin off of his left thumb, no where else.
"You're picking again," you reminded him, his face contorting into a mix of defeat and mischievousness. "How does it feel? One more trip before heading to the big city?"
"Really nervous..." he mumbled. "I'm an actual cop."
"I know, I'm proud of you. Hopefully, you won't be like those bastard cops. I'm excluding you from ACAB."
"Hey, don't be mean now, I haven't even started!"
"But, you're still a cop. My cop." you emphasised, watching as his eyes and blush grew. His smooth cheeks crinkled into a smile, which only made your heart soften more. You poked your foot into Leon's which made his smile shift into a cheekier one. One full of mischief and playfulness.
He got up from his seat, careful wobbling across the moving train and plopped next to you, laying his head on your lap. You chuckled at his antics, fluffing his hair to which he let out a hearty chuckle.
"Don't mess it up!"
"You're the one who placed your head on my lap!"
"What am I supposed to do?"
"...Fair enough," you said, a similar grin appearing on your face, making him worried. "Since you want to act so mischievous, you brought this upon yourself."
You bent down and rapidly peppered kisses on his forehead, his nose, his lips, his cheeks; everywhere! Your chequered newsboy hat was practically falling off of your head, as you felt Leon giggle underneath your touch.
"Pft... Okay- okay! Truce, truce!" he yelped as you pulled away, readjusting your cap with a smug grin on your face.
"Promise me, I have more saved for you when we get to the city, pretty boy."
So much had gone wrong in so little time. If you could tell yourself that Raccoon City was quite different than you boasted about a few hours ago, and that in fact, you should've taken that train back to the small town you came from. Take Leon away from this. You would've turned that train as far away as you could. Your fear is accentuated by your sudden separation: you’re in an abandoned grocery store and Leon god knows where.
Two hours. That's all it took for the entire city to go to hell. All it took for its inhabitants to turn into ravenous creatures, biting anything and anyone it came across. Including you.
The bite mark was deep, enough to puncture blood. A zombie that you thought was dead for good, if only you checked more thoroughly, more carefully, this wouldn't have happened. You had someone to get home to, someone to return alive to; it wasn't like you were alone where you could self-sacrifice yourself and it would be suffocated by the numerous other deaths, too deep to leave an everlasting scar.
You silently cursed to yourself, pressing your back against the grocery store’s shelves. The silent hum of the freezer accompanied you in your potential final moments. Hell, you didn’t know how exactly this thing worked. All you knew was that it was terrifying to think about. While your hand was searching underneath the aisles for anything to distract you really, you spotted a crumpled receipt. It was short, and surprisingly clean. Then, an idea popped in your head. You took your finger and swiped some of the blood oozing from your wound, applying it to your lips like some demented version of lipstick.
Then, you began peppering soft kisses on the paper, pressing for long enough to leave a marking. You did this for a few minutes before you felt a hollow ache echo from your stomach. You glanced at the chips left in your aisle, but your stomach said no. Is the infection taking over? Is this truly it? Where were you gonna go? Of course, your body would still remain to be gunned down by a survivor, but what about you? The part of you that people call a conscience or a soul? Would it remain or dissipate to heaven, or maybe you’d be left in the everlasting darkness people call death. Who knew? No one, but you.
Quickly whipping your pen out, the ache only growing from your stomach, you outlined the kiss marks before scribbling down whatever last message you had for the world. Stuffing the note in your pocket, you felt a violent thrash echo through you. The thrashing only continued as your voice turned into a harsh snarl. Anytime you tried to talk or even vocalise, it only came out as a gargle. Your heart and lungs felt stagnant, no beating or movement within them. Your brain was foggy, any and all previous thoughts were long gone, left to starve and fade into obscurity. Then, and only then, did you hear a thunderous crash.
“Shit!” Leon whispered, inching away from the water bottle he knocked down. He held his breath as he heard an infected rush towards the sound, its snarls and incoherent growls sent shivers down his spine. No matter how many infected he came across, the fear never quite disappeared. He hated this, more than anything in the world.
He leaned his ear out, hearing for any noises before crawling to the neighbouring aisle. Most of the fluorescent lights were out, only leaving the lights from the freezer to light Leon’s way. The noises came back, this time near the end of the next aisle. It shouldn’t be hard to take this one out, he’d been taking them out since he reached this city. In. Out. Breathing quickly reset inside Leon, who felt his heart had just been whirled around in a wind turbine.
In one fluid movement, he rushed into the aisle, holding his gun up towards the infected. As it turned however, his previous focused expression shifted into shock. His grip quivered the weapon, pointed towards you. You, if you could even call yourself that, convulsed, head quipping behind you, seeing Leon’s ever wider eyes. They were filled with heartbreak and delusion. You could see him mumbling to himself, praying that it wasn’t true. That this was just a delusional dream, that he probably drifted off in your lap with your newsboy cap resting on his head, closing out all light. That you would wake him up and the familiar scent of wood and coal would fill his nose instead of blood and guts.
Your cap fell from your head, landing on the ground with a soft thud. The last bit of you was holding back, trying to tempt your urges to jump and bite him until he was nothing more than a bloody corpse. Your grip stinged your hands, your strength fading with your mouth contorting into a frown. You wanted to cry, you did. But, no matter how hard you tried, no tears formed. It was the kind of sadness you couldn’t express with tears, couldn’t express with words, only through a sad sincere smile. And with that, your grip loosened involuntarily and you were lost.
“Le…Le..” it said. The infected charged at Leon, thrashing its arms. With hesitation, he fired three rounds into it before dodging to the left. It crashed into the freezer, glass embedding its throat before it jolted up and chased him again. This time, Leon fired multiple shots into the throat and with hesitation, one in the head, stopping it in its tracks. Its body slumped down into the next aisle, lying with its face askew.
“What?” Leon muttered as he approached your body. It was cold, limp, everything you weren’t. No, this thing wasn’t you. It just looked like you. It didn’t have your voice, it didn’t have your scent, it didn’t have your quirks; it was not you. So why did he still feel melancholy?
“Hey, hey!” he exclaimed, rushing towards it and clutching its body in his arms. “Baby, please don’t do this. Can you hear me? Please, god, just talk to me again. Talk to me. Let me hear you.”
All that came was silence. All he wanted was just to hear your voice again. Hear all the sweet things it had to tell him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t holding you. He was holding a shell of you. As he let his tears surround his eyelids, he noticed a small paper sticking out of your coat pocket. Curious, he pulled it out and opened it. Inside, it was embellished with maroon lip markings, outlined with a black pen. These were your lips, along with the message:
Leon,
Here’s your promise. Keep the cap, it suits you, pretty boy.
The sun shone brighter than ever that day.

" Don't ya know that we's a family? Would I let ya down? No way.
.. Just hold on, kid, till that train makes Santa Fe.... "
Finally finished my fanart for @allyheart707's Little Subjects!!
If you don't recognize the lyrics, they're from the Broadway play 'Newsies.' :) The song is about the hopeful dream of two young newsboys to someday go to the glorified town of Santa Fe, and escape all of their woes and lack of freedom. Soooooooo you can see why I picked it for my fanart of Ally's au. ;)
( I actually originally had the plan for Mikey and Donnie to be taking the place of Annie, from the 1982 film, but decided that the song from Newsies would fit better. :) The building where Mikey and Donnie are staying, is what the orphanage looked like that inspired the story of Annie! )
Anyways, I hope you like it, my friend!!! :) And I hope you're feeling better today!! Praying for you! <3
Two down.... four to go.. but first- Imma take a break cause I can just FEEL the carpal tunnel crawling up my fingers and wrist XD
