A random Star Trek Prodigy Original Soundtrack and music appreciation post! 🎶🖖❤️
I love to listen to movie and tv scores while I work, write or sketch, and Nami Melumad's Star Trek Prodigy score has become one of my absolute highlights over the last year or so- what an impressive, powerful and emotional score! Music in TV is too often under-appreciated, but what an impact it has on our favorite shows! For Prodigy it's simply one more thing that makes this show wonderful, in addition to stunning visuals, beautiful writing, riveting storytelling, engaged voice acting and great character development!
So here are just a few of my favorite tracks from Star Trek Prodigy season 1 (what a tough choice, it's definitely not an exhaustive list). There are also lots of word-play and humor in the track titles, which I just love! ❤️
Main title: Powerful, emotional, uplifting! Just... wow!
youtube
Starfleet Suits You Well: An amazing build-up and crescendo in this one - my only critique: it's too short!!
The Aquathawn: uplifting and energetic, I love this track! (I think I hear some notes reminiscent of the Voyager theme as well as Michael Giacchino's main theme for the JJ Abrams Star Trek movie - two more scores that I love!)
The Fellowship of the Protostar: a beautiful, long track that blends in most of the show's themes in a powerful, slow crescendo. Love it! A perfect accompaniment for the first season's epilogue!
I've come to absolutely love Admiral Janeway's theme: just the right amount of pomp and emotion for this wonderfully complex character!
There are so many other great ones, with lots of different moods! Feel free to share/add your favs! 😁

I'm still trying to temper my expectations, but Nami Melumad blushing sounds like a promising thing?

I know tumblr is a picture and text sort of place, so we don’t talk about this aspect of the show much.
But I really wanna point out how intense and amazing the music was during this chase sequence. It was so tense and dangerous and you instantly know this is a BAD situation the kids are in. Kudos to Nami Melumad for her stellar compositions!
Seeing the Dauntless rise up in front of them, the strings during the chase, the intensity when the torpedo goes off… so good! Gives me chills every time!

Willkommen im Metaversum
«Star Trek: Strange New Worlds» Ep. 2x09, »Subspace Rhapsody« ★★★★☆ Drehbuch: Dana Horgan & Bill Wolkoff; Musik: Nami Melumad. Regie: Dermott Downs.
Tumblr media
Janet Kagan (1984): «Uhura’s Song». dt. «Uhuras Lied».
«Star Trek: Short Treks»: »Q & A«
«Star Trek: Deep Space Nine» 6x13: »Far beyond the Stars« (1998) Auf amazon Prime streamen
«Star Trek: Lower Decks»

akiva goldsman did an interview about the snw season 2 finale where he was like yeah the gorn just represent pure evil monsters because sure there's kindness in the world but there's also monsters :) because declaring an entire species to be so 'monstrous' and evil that we are free to slaughter their children without remorse is sooo much better of a story than the one TOS did with the gorn, right? -_-
it's also like we know you think the gorn are evil violent monsters that must be destroyed despite the starfleet's chickenshit policy that living beings should be 'understood'.... because you've done this episode like 4 times already! we get it! it was boring the first time. the people who are like 'well maybe it's building up to the eventual conclusion that the gorn are kind-of sort-of intelligent sentient beings and we shouldn't just gleefully kill off their babies' and i'm like.... at this rate they will establish the plot of an already-existing 50 min episode over several episodes over 4 YEARS!
Darren Mooney excerpts:
“I’d appreciate another chance to study them up close,” Sam Kirk tells Pike in the mission briefing. “With a phaser?” Noonien-Singh inquires. “How else will we determine how best to kill them?” answers Kirk, who is the ship’s xenoanthropologist. “I would like to aid in that study,” adds Joseph M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), the ships’ doctor. Pike then instructs the crew to arm themselves, as Nami Melumad’s score hits the classic Star Trek fanfare.
There is no discomfort or unease here, as the crew load up with what Lieutenant Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia) describes as “super cool toys.” There is no hesitation when Noonien-Singh ambushes “a Gorn youngling” in the street, effectively executing a child. It’s all played as thrilling spectacle. After all, the sequence of Ortegas piloting the shuttle into the atmosphere of Parnassus Beta, dipping below the treeline before recovering, was the big opening beat in the season’s trailer. It’s visceral and exciting.
Despite its obvious nostalgia for the Star Trek of the 1990s, the pop culture of “the end of history,” and “the unipolar moment,” “Hegemony” suggests that Strange New Worlds is still a product of the War on Terror that has shaped every Star Trek since Enterprise. It might hide that sensibility beneath a polished nostalgic exterior, but it is still there. Indeed, Spock’s (Ethan Peck) flight through the debris field consciously evokes a similar sequence in the War-on-Terror-adjacent Star Trek Into Darkness.

The Mosley Review: Thor: Love and Thunder
Tumblr media
If there's one character that has had the most growth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe while his solo films have dropped in quality since the first entry, its Thor. His first film was a shakespearian epic that was simple, but the character development was superb. It understood the assignment and passed with flying colors. Then by the time we got to Ragnorok, the character's films became a joke and bad one at that. I'm all for switching things up mid stream, but not to the point where you ruin the foundation that bore its existence. I was truly saddened that one of the greatest Norse Gods was filed down to a Saturday morning cartoon and not taken seriously. Now comes a new entry and it started off so powerful and introduces something that this character has needed since the The Dark World, a great villain. After that gorgeous opening, the same problems emerge that the previous film had and just keeps getting worse. The tone of this film is all over the place and only seems to finally focus up towards the mid section of the film. There seems to be a fear to let your fanbase that has been there since 2008, see a more dramatic and mature toned story. Instead of embracing death and a many scenes of tension, they pull back on the reigns and drop a joke that completely stops the story progression. It was truly a big disappointment that this film really didn't learn from its past mistakes. At least some of the characters this time around get treated better for the most part.
Tumblr media
Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor and he is still great as the character. I've wished for him to step back into the version of the character that is more serious and less a buffoon and that wish has partially come true. He does take things more seriously this time and I did like his self deprecating humor. His comedic charm is still intact and he is always great in action scenes. Natalie Portman returns as Jane Foster and she gets a hell of an upgrade in character development. I truly loved her chemistry with Hemsworth in the first Thor film and thankfully that has finally returned. There are some moments where her dialogue was a bit rough and she did the best she could with it. Tessa Thompson returns as Valkyrie and I liked that she was more toned down. She wasn't as in your face "I'm a strong woman with no flaws" type of character this time around. She was more relatable. Taika Waititi as Korg was alright this time around and there was a decision that was made with the character at first that I was hoping would stay, but of course its then played for jokes. Russell Crowe was good as Zeus and I liked that he played him as a pompous, arrogant and a lazier God. I do wish he was the ZEUS we know but once again, comedy. Christian Bale delivers a truly heartbreaking and sometimes creepy performance as Gorr. I loved that he got an amazing arc in the film and you understand his quest. He may not have been exactly what he looks like in the comics, but I dug this more human look. He was the best villain this franchise has seen in a very long time and I loved every second he was on screen.
Tumblr media
The score by Michael Giacchino and Nami Melumad was fun and I liked the new themes that were created for Jane and Gorr. When its not Giacchino and Melumad, we are treated to almost all of the greatest hits Guns & Roses and the songs were used pretty well in the film. Visually the film was just as or more colorful than Ragnorok and is pretty to look at and actually fits this time. I know it seems like I'm ragging on the comedy alot, but it truly stops the movie everytime chance it gets. There were so many scenes where the story started to actually try to get you invested and finally show some form of tension, but it is violently ripped away by dropping a bad joke or showing off memes that have died more than 5 years ago. It was so maddening and I really couldn't stand. Director Taika Waititi is a talented filmmaker, but he has damaged this characters' image and ruined almost all chances for him to be the epic hero he’s supposed to be. He needs to step away from this character and do something that is in his wheel house instead forcing his comedic style on someone that isn't a comedian. Thor has been my favorite character since the MCU started and it pains me to see him like this. Overall it's still worth watching for Gorr but other than that, its barely a step up from Ragnorok. There are 2 end credits and I loved the second one the most. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
