Summary
As her heart’s blood soaks into his shirt, he feels the last remains of his humanity slip away. After God's assassination and his subsequent resurrection, Augustine reflects on his relationship with Mercymorn. There’s nothing else he finds himself capable of.
Finally, my post-Mercy getting her heart blown out by Jod fic is up! It's a pretty introspective story, told from Augustine's pov, with lots of flashbacks to his relationship with Mercymorn throughout the years. Call it a relationship study, if you will!

Characters: Gaius Augustine, Adrian Raines, Lily Spencer,  Kamilah Sayeed, Amy Raines.
Some say,  the afterlife begins after you die. While others say, it's like another stage in your life.  A big event can define it,  being single and then getting married for example. A new beginning is how he describe it.
After defeating Rheya, and then having his life judged by others, was one way of looking at it. He kept his emotions close to him and thought death would come swiftly. Part of him hoped for it, longed for it even, but most of all he knew he deserved it.  The pain he had caused so many, weighed on his heart and he felt like he was drowning. Who would forgive such a man, would you? No one is that righteous.

Bound―Chapter 3: Common Ground
Summary: While traveling to Rome, Diana learns about Gaius’s life alone in Europe and is forced to confront the weight of her decisions.
AO3 | Masterlist
Pairing: Gaius Augustine/Diana Leigh (BB MC)
                           Somewhere in Northern Italy, 2042
The following evening, Diana sat with her arms folded across her chest, nestled in her oversized coat as she slouched in her seat, feet propped up on the seat across from her as the sparsely populated train car gently swayed from side to side. Gaius sat opposite her, looking perfectly normal as he gazed out at the Italian countryside that passed through the window in a dark blur. Their weapons sat in a nondescript black sports bag, one typically used for baseball bats, beneath his seat.
It was still bizarre, seeing Gaius in the modern world. Diana realized that most of her memories of Gaius were not her own but those that she had gathered as the Bloodkeeper and all of those visions had taken place long before her time. Whatever personal memories she had of Gaius usually involved fighting for her life, so there was never time to note just how out of place he was.
“Stop that,” he huffed, not turning away from the window.
“Stop what?”
“Staring.” Gaius rolled his eyes, directing his attention to her at last, gaze cool. “Weren’t you the one who said it was rude?”
Diana frowned, shifting in her seat. “Sorry. It’s just… weird. Seeing you here.”
“Perhaps you should have considered that before proposing I come along with you,” Gaius scowled, turning back to the window, slouching down in his seat and folding his arms. If Diana didn’t know better, she would have assumed he was pouting.
“No, that’s not what I meant,” she amended, brow furrowing as she tried to find the words to explain it properly. “I meant that it’s weird to see you―”
“In pants?” Gaius supplied, eyebrow lifting.
“...Essentially, yeah.” Diana shrugged, pursing her lips and glancing around. Although no one seemed to be paying them even the slightest bit of attention, she lowered her voice, so that only he could hear. “Gaius, so many of my memories of you are the ones I saw in fragments. Decades before I was even born.”
“Is this your way of calling me old, Diana?” His tone was flat, but Diana noticed the way his lip quirked ever so slightly. He was teasing her.
“You said it, not me,” she said innocently, before shaking her head, serious once more. “But you know what I mean.”
He hummed. “I suppose I do. But if I’ve learned anything over the course of my arduous existence, it is how to adapt to the changing times. Just like Kamilah and your Adrian. Just as you will continue to do.”
Just like Kamilah and your Adrian.
Diana winced but didn’t bother to correct him.
She directed her gaze to the window, but instead of a moonlit countryside, she only saw shadows and her own reflection.
“What’s it like?” Diana asked, setting her feet on the floor and sliding into the seat next to her so that she sat directly in front of Gaius, nestled against the wall of the train. “Rome?”
“Never been?” Gaius faced her fully now, their knees just barely touching.
“No,” Diana sighed wistfully. “I thought one of the pros of being a vampire was having an eternity to do whatever you want, but I’ve never had the time. It seems that I only get to travel when I’m on some sort of mission or running for my life.”
There it was again, that nearly imperceptible quirk of his lips. Good to know he could appreciate the irony as well.
“I have… fond memories of Rome,” Gaius admitted. “I spent quite a bit of time there in the early years after I was Turned. I watched it become an empire, watched it fall. I went back a while ago; a lot has changed, but you would be surprised how much is still the same. There is a lot of supernatural activity there―vampires, werewolves, and the like.”
“Wouldn’t it be smarter to go away from hotspots like that?”
“That logic is the exact reason why we are going. If someone is searching for you, say the Daughters of Rheya, they should expect you to steer clear of populated areas. As long as you conceal yourself,” Gaius said with a very pointed look, “it should be a perfect place to lie low until you figure out where we’re going next. And there should be plenty of activity for me to keep tabs on.”
“What, like, vampire attacks on humans? Werewolf and vampire territory wars?”
Gaius scoffed, rolling his eyes. “No. Well, occasionally, that first part. But all sorts of creatures, minor but still troublesome, occupy the city. I try to visit every few years to make sure they don’t get out of hand.”
Diana nodded to herself, tucking this information aside. Rome was heavily populated with vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural beings. Gaius made rounds across Europe, single-handedly watching over an entire continent. She supposed that after nearly twenty-five years of seeing the impossible, none of this should have surprised her. And yet, she couldn’t help but feel as if there was so much she didn’t know, so much of the world she had neglected to see while she was content in New York. Diana frowned; there was one more thing…
“Were you alone this whole time?” Diana asked. She couldn’t imagine wandering around for twenty years, much less on her own.
Gaius simply said, “Yes.”
Her frown deepened. “Didn’t you ever get lonely?”
He fixed her with an odd look as if he either didn’t understand how the question was relevant or why she cared to ask. “There was not a second that went by that I didn’t feel alone, Diana. But what can I do? There was no one I could ask to accompany me, no one I would have asked to do so.”
“Why?” Diana shook her head. “There weren’t any other vampires that wanted to join you?
Gaius pursed his lips as if something about what she suggested was distasteful. “People want stability, humans and vampires alike. They want safety. Most would not consider traveling around Europe in search of murderous beasts to provide either of those things.”
“Then couldn’t you have done something else? Something where you didn’t have to be alone all of the time?” Diana asked. When she had sentenced him to live, she had not given him specific instructions on how to do so. She hadn’t even allowed him to live on the condition that he atone but merely given him the chance to do so.
Gaius’s gaze suddenly went flat, his face a stoic mask. When he spoke, his voice was carefully neutral, devoid of emotion. “With or without Rheya, I am a killer. Do not be mistaken. At least now, I can try to kill the right monsters this time, if it will provide protection to those who need it along the way. I would not subject anyone else to that sort of life with me. So if loneliness is part of the price I must pay in order to atone, then so be it.”
A chill ran down her spine at that. While his expression, seemingly impartial and aloof, reminded her so much of the Gaius of the past, his words were a far cry from who he used to be. It was this difference, more than anything, that unnerved her the most. Perhaps removing Rheya’s influence on him had broken Gaius more than she had thought.
Despite everything, she couldn’t help but feel some compassion for the man across from her.  It occurred to her briefly that this could have been part of some scheme, that he was playing up his guilt to deceive her. But for what? The threats to both humans and vampires had gone, and if it came down to a fight, Diana knew how to win. Nevertheless, she could feel his remorse as clear if it were her own. Without even touching his mind, she could sense that he was telling the truth.
“You’re more than just a killer, Gaius,” she said softly, studying his countenance. “Fighting might be what you are good at, but it’s not the only thing you have to do. I think… I think you owe it to yourself to find out what else is out there for you.”
Gaius stared at her, brows drawn together and lips pulled down into a frown. He shook his head and Diana realized that this was the most honest they had ever been for each other. Willingly, at least.
“I don’t understand you,” Gaius confessed after a long moment had passed. “You gave me a second chance on the basis that I would have the chance to atone. That rather than face death, I would face the truth of what I have done. And now that I have, you seem uncomfortable with the notion of it.” He leaned forward, gaze intense and searching, although Diana noticed that she found nothing menacing about this gesture as might have before. “Tell me, Diana. You know who I am and what I have done. You set me off to do some good in the world. Do you not think me deserving of punishment along the way?”
Diana opened her mouth to respond, but paused, realizing she didn’t know what to say to that. There had been times, even within the last twenty years when she had seen some of the lasting effects of Gaius’s misguided ambition, and in her anger, had momentarily wished she had made him suffer just a little bit more.
“I don’t know,” she breathed, surprised that her answer was more complicated than it should have been. Diana sighed and set her forehead against the window, watching the lights of a nearby station grow steadily closer. “Truthfully, sometimes I think I should have punished you somehow. But there’s another part of me that thinks you have already suffered enough.”
When she glanced over at him once more, Gaius was no longer looking at her, but at some distant point inside the train, although she could tell that he wasn’t really seeing. His eyes were distant, lost to some memory she was not privy to.
Diana closed her eyes, suddenly exhausted, mentally and physically. Why did every conversation with Gaius have to be so… taxing? Beyond that, it had been a while since she last fed. Even if she didn’t need blood as often as the average vampire, it still helped keep up her strength, and she didn’t think it would be exactly appropriate to pull out one of her blood packs in public.
“When was the last time you fed?” Gaius murmured and Diana opened her eyes with a start, slightly unnerved that she had just been wondering the same thing.
“I had a blood pack on Adrian’s plane about a day ago,” she shrugged.
“So you do still need it. Blood,” Gaius observed, giving her a look of appraisal. “Rheya fed regularly with me and Xeno, but in your memory, she made it sound as if she only needed it to gain power.”
“I can go without it, but it doesn’t exactly feel great.”
“Hmm.” Gaius hummed, eyes roaming to the sparkling lights visible through the window. “I recognize this town. When the train stops, we’ll have about an hour to find something. Does that work for you?”
Diana licked her lips, running her tongue along the sharp points of her incisors. “Perfect.”
***
The moment they were a safe distance away from the train station, Diana unshouldered her pack and unzipped it, searching for a blood pack when she felt a hand on her shoulder, stopping her.
“Not that,” Gaius said, wrinkling his nose in distaste. “I know where we can find something better.”
They were stopped in a rural farming town, surrounded by pastures and rolling hills. Diana followed Gaius down a nondescript country road, their path lit only by the moon overhead. She scrunched up her nose; mixed in with the scent of fresh grass and dew was the unpleasant tang of fertilizer.
“Where are we going?” Diana asked, glancing around. All of the houses were behind them; only farms lay ahead.
Gaius shifted the sports bag that held their swords from his shoulder to hang across his back and shrugged. “You’ll see.”
Before long, Gaius suddenly turned off the road and heaved himself over an old wooden fence, landing in the field on the other side. Hesitantly, Diana followed, taking Gaius’s offered hand as she climbed over the post, although she was quick to drop it once she landed, mud squelching under her boots.
“Gaius, what―”
“Patience,” he murmured, leading her away from the road and up a hill, seeming to have no trouble with the muddy ground that was sucking Diana’s feet down. Diana was relieved when the ground became more solidified near the top of the hill, although her spirits quickly dropped when she heard it. The reason they were here.
“Oh no, you are not serious.”
“It’s better than those sacks of blood,” Gaius quipped, and although she couldn’t see him clearly in the dark, she had a feeling he was rolling his eyes at her. Diana sighed as he continued on to the other side of the hill where familiar shapes roamed.
Cows.
Diana swore but followed anyway. Fresh blood, no matter where it came from, had to be better than the packs.
“You do this often?” she huffed as they stopped beside one of the hulking animals. It seemed to pay them no mind, nonchalantly grazing, its tail swishing in the breeze.
“It’s not often that I find random humans that are willing to let me feed on them, especially when I’m in the middle of nowhere,” Gaius shrugged, reaching out and trailing his hand along the cow’s wide neck.
Despite her misgivings, Diana felt her fangs dig into her bottom lip, ears immediately picking up the animal’s powerful heartbeat, the blood rushing through its veins. Stepping forward and resting her hand against the cow’s flank, she looked to Gaius. “Will it… mind?”
Gaius scoffed. “If you’re asking me if the cow consents, you don’t need to worry. We’re barely more than pests to it. She’ll just be tired afterward, that’s all.”
Diana swallowed, petting the cow’s hide as if she could apologize for what they were about to do. “If you say so,” she mumbled, and then sank her fangs into its neck. On the other side, Gaius did the same, the cow merely grunting in surprise. Diana was pleased to find that its blood tasted pretty much the same as a human’s aside for the slightly bitter taste of dirt from its hide. She drank deeply, feeling strength return to her bones, the familiar tingle of her power once again awakening beneath her skin.
A minute or so later, she pulled back with a gasp, hunger thoroughly sated. Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, she stepped back unsteadily, nearly overwhelmed with how refreshed she felt as she pricked her finger and sealed the puncture wounds she had left.
“Better?” Gaius was standing beside her, watching her curiously. She hadn’t noticed when he had finished feeding or when he had come so close.
“Yeah,” she breathed, running a self-conscious hand through her hair before settling her hands on her hips. “That was…”
“Filling?” he supplied.
“Humbling.”
Gaius smirked, exhaling a small huff through his nose. Diana supposed it was the closest she could possibly come to ever seeing him laugh.
Before she could truly come to appreciate this odd moment of camaraderie, simple as it was, Gaius’s face fell, lips tightening into a grim line. He swung the long black sports bag over his shoulder and withdrew his gladius, its sharp edge glinting in the moonlight.
“Gaius, what―” Diana started as she turned around, following his gaze. Her mouth dropped open, heart seizing in her chest. “What the hell is that?”
Barely discernible against the dark sky was a large black figure, vaguely shaped into the form of a dog. Tendrils of night wicked off its edges, as if it were made from shadow and darkness itself. Diana would have thought what she was seeing was merely a trick of the light, her mind simply seeing danger where there was none, if it hadn’t been for its eyes . White, glowing orbs burned at the center of the darkness like twin flames of heavenly fire. And they were staring right at her.
Diana took a cautious step back, snatching the bag from Gaius and retrieving her own sword. “Gaius?”
“It’s a Black Shuck,” he said quietly, deathly still and eyes trained on the dog as it remained approximately twenty feet away, unmoving. He held his sword out in front of them with one hand, the other stretched out before her, the gesture almost protective.
“Okay,” Diana nodded, glancing once more at the figure. “But what is it?”
“It’s a sort of spectral hound,” Gaius supplied as he studied the dog, expression focused. Calculating. “Shucks are said to be malicious omens of death, although there are many accounts of them being companionable creatures, especially to maidens and lost travelers. Some are more helpful than threatening. But they’re native to East Anglia… This one is either lost, or it’s here for a reason.”
“So what kind of Shuck is this?” she breathed. “The good or the bad?”
“That remains to be seen.”
“Wonderful,” Diana said, her voice flat as she gave in to her instincts, readjusting her grip on her sword. She willed her heartbeat to slow, settling into that killing calm. She’d fought plenty of monsters before and come out on top. She would do it again if she had to. She was one of the most powerful beings to ever walk the earth. She would not die in some random pasture because of some dog.
Gaius’s concentration broke and he glanced over at Diana, as if sensing the change in her demeanor. If Diana had been paying attention, she would have seen the range of expressions that flurried across his countenance. Surprise, confusion, recognition, fear, and concern. It passed like a shadow, leaving only traces behind as Gaius focused once again on the creature before them.
He took a step back, the arm he extended before Diana encouraging her to do the same. “Slowly, now, Diana. If we can leave without a fight, no one has to get hurt―”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the Black Shuck’s gaze shifted from Diana to Gaius, and it snarled, crouching down as if ready to attack. Diana cast her senses out but could find no trace of the Black Shuck’s presence. There was no power, no energy, no mind or life force for her to control.
“Gaius,” she murmured, voice eerily calm. “I don’t think we’re getting out of here without a fight.”
Diana let out a long breath and held her sword out before her, sensing all of the life forms around her, the cows grazing nearby, the creatures that burrowed into the ground beneath her, and Gaius, a pillar of strength and stability beside her. She heard the crunch of hard-packed earth underfoot and felt the air shift, the tension snap, as the Black Shuck snarled and lunged.
Diana shifted her stance, digging her feet into the ground as she brought her sword up in preparation for a devastating blow when she was suddenly thrust to the side. She stumbled, arm falling to the side, sword missing its target as the Shuck rushed by her in a dark blur and launched itself at Gaius.
Diana barely turned in time to see Gaius toss his blade to the side and throw his arms up, burrowing his hands into the shadowy, shifting fur of the hound. As the Shuck barreled into him, Gaius spun with it, hurling both himself and the beast away from Diana in a tangle of shadow, fangs, and claws.
“Gaius!” Diana shouted, snatching his gladius from where it had fallen in the tall grass. What the hell was he doing? She ran down the hill where Gaius and the Black Shuck had tumbled away.
“Diana, don’t!” Gaius’s voice came from amidst the shadows and she felt a wave of his presence wash over her, a manifestation of his insistence. “It’s trying to protect you.”
Diana didn’t have time to process what that meant, how it was possible that Gaius had exerted some sort of psychic will over her as she raced towards the fight, two vicious shadows in the night. As soon as she was within a few feet of Gaius and Black Shuck, she paused, locating Gaius in the fray. He was bloodied and flagging. That creature never should have gotten a single blow on him, unless Gaius let it.
Diana faltered. Gaius was letting the fight go on. She watched for a moment, noting how he was pulling his punches, doing just enough to project himself and fend off the hound, but careful not to actually inflict serious harm. But why?
The Shuck lashed out, gnashing its teeth mere inches from Gaius’s neck and Diana snapped out of her thoughts. She grit her teeth and closed her eyes. If Gaius wasn’t going to end this, she would. Diana reached out with her power and found Gaius’s presence. She could sense his pounding heartbeat, the blood rushing in his veins. She used this, anchoring her power to his body, and yanked.
Gaius came tumbling away, crashing to the ground at her feet with a grunt. His eyes widened as he pushed himself to his elbows, reaching out towards Diana. “No!”
She ignored him, calmly striding towards the Black Shuck, which now faced her, silver eyes flaring. It did not waver, staring her down as she approached. Diana gripped the swords in her hands, both hers and Gaius’s as she towered over the shadow beast, blood singing with the anticipation of another threat neutralized. The Black Shuck snarled once, then backed away, whimpering.
Something inside of Diana delighted in the sound and snarled, Good.
She raised both of the swords above the creature, prepared to put the dark dog down.
“Diana!”
She glanced over her shoulder, prepared to tell Gaius to just be quiet―
And then she wasn’t in her body. She was on the ground, watching herself from behind, a hand that wasn’t hers outstretched before her. Diana saw herself through Gaius’s eyes, saw her rigid posture, locked in an executioner’s stance, two swords of different makes and eras gleaming silver in the moonlight. She saw her own face, blank and perfectly impassive, dark eyes staring back at her. There was no rage, no fear. Only detached indifference.
Diana came back to her body with a gasp, legs weak beneath her. She once again saw Gaius over her shoulder, his expression alarmed, as if he had sensed her mind merge with his too. Diana tore her gaze from his, once again facing the cowering shadow hound before her. All around her, she felt fear. From the Black Shuck, from Gaius, from herself.
She lowered the swords in her hands, breathing hard. The Black Shuck’s ghostly gaze met hers and she finally sensed its presence, sensed its will. This was not a malicious creature. She felt its intentions, its desire to help and protect.
It had come to protect her.
Before Diana could do anything, the Black Shuck disappeared, dissipating into shadows and wisps of darkness.
“Why?” she asked, her voice faraway in her own ears. “Why did it want to protect me from you?”
“It seems that even mythical dogs know what I have done. It must have thought I was a threat to you. Shucks tend to have a soft spot for wandering women,” Gaius huffed, but Diana had stopped paying attention.
Diana collapsed to her knees, blades falling to the ground, forgotten. She had been prepared to kill the Black Shuck in cold blood. Even before she had sensed its truth, it had backed down, unwilling to fight her. And Gaius had urged her not to get involved.
She had lost herself, given into warped instincts and the power in her veins. She had become… detached.
Diana frowned, eyes falling to the ground. Was this how it began? How power set her apart from everyone else? Not all at once, through pain and anger like it had for Rheya or Gaius, but slowly, as she gradually lost touch with the things that kept her grounded. As she gave pieces of herself away, bit by bit to the immense power at her disposal. Was this why she had started having those dreams about the artifacts? Why she had wanted to go alone to Europe? Why… why she and Adrian had grown apart?
You’re different, Gaius had said. He had known right away.
She heard grass crunch underfoot behind her and turned around, hands shaking in her lap.
“Come on, Bloodkeeper,” Gaius said softly as he stood over her, expression surprisingly tender as he extended his hand. “You’re okay. Let’s get back on that train.”
Diana closed her eyes, taking a deep breath to center herself. She would not lose herself. She had made the right decision before, had resisted the temptation to give in to power. She would do it again. Diana looked up at the night sky, the stars twinkling overhead, and nodded. She took his hand, gathering the fallen swords with the other. “Let’s go.”
Gently, Gaius took the blades from her grasp and set them back in the bag, slinging it across his back. They walked together, side by side, back to the train station, and Diana tried hard not to think about how for the first time in years, she was afraid.

It’s been a year since MC killed Gaius and died doing so in Japan when Kamilah suddenly receives a photograph of MC that says,
“Come get her.”
(inspired by my previous thoughts). Part 2 here.
For the past year after Mila’s death, Kamilah has been simply going through the motions of everyday life. It’s as if her heart stopped beating the day Mila died.
And even though she’s already experienced the feeling of Mila dying once, it’s worse this time around with no one to have witnessed her death. Mila was just there one day, and then gone the next, leaving nothing behind but a bloody sword and a pile of ashes.
But then one day, someone leaves an anonymous tip at Ahmanet Financial and it’s a picture of Mila. Although it looks like it could be a picture from the past, Kamilah notices how her hair is longer now, the chestnut tresses streaming past her shoulders.
“Come get her” is written in a messy and yet stylish scrawl and Kamilah immediately recognises it as Gaius’s handwriting.
Kamilah’s mind works impossibly fast as it connects the dots and she realises that Gaius is alive, and more importantly, that Mila is alive.
This realisation pierces through the numbness that Kamilah had worn like a second skin for the past year and Kamilah can’t help the mottled sob that escapes her mouth.
Although every bone in her body aches to run after Mila, although every voice in her head screams that she needs to save Mila immediately, Kamilah forces herself to calm down.
Mila’s life is on the line and she will not lose her again.
Kamilah gathers the others (Adrian, Lily, Jax) and shows them the picture.
But Jax is a bit hesitant because clearly this is a trap by Gaius. Why would he come out of hiding after faking his death now? Why would he tell them to take Mila if it weren’t part of some devious plot of his?
And even though Kamilah knows he’s right, she can’t just do nothing. Kamilah
Mila’s alive and in New York City and Kamilah will stop at nothing to save her, even if it means walking straight into Gaius’s trap.
They agree to be careful and they come up with a plan to rescue Mila from Gaius.
But when they arrive at the building in the photograph, there are no guards, there’s no anything.
Even as they silently sneak through the rooms of the building with their weapons out and their senses on high alert, they meet no resistance.
Finally, in the most central room, they find Mila sleeping on the bed and even though something seems suspicious about how easy this is, they take Mila home.
Mila is put into Kamilah’s bed as the others wait politely out in her foyer, giving Kamilah the space she needs.
Kamilah watches the sleeping Mila with the thirst of a dying man, her eyes committing every inch of her back to her memory, making sure that Mila hasn’t been hurt anywhere.
Even blinking is too long a time to not have her eyes on Mila and Kamilah’s hand trembles before she lays it on Mila’s face.
Kamilah cannot believe that the world would be so kind to her, that she would be with Mila again, and Kamilah swears that she will never let her go.
Mila’s eyes flutter open and Kamilah has never seen a more beautiful shade of brown that that of her eyes. A tear leaks down Kamilah’s cheek as she stares into the eyes of the woman she thought she would never see again.
“Mila,” Kamilah breathes out reverentially.
But then Mila shrieks and desperately scrambles away from her on the bed, her back pressed against the headboard.
The others race into the bedroom at the shriek, their weapons already drawn.
“What’s wrong?” Adrian asks quickly but Kamilah is frozen, her face pale.
“Get away from me,” Mila snarls as her eyes frantically flit about the room, looking for escape routes, weapons, anything she can use against them.
Adrian slowly walks toward her, his hands outstretched in a sign of peace, “Mila, please. We’re not going to hurt you.”
Mila laughs maniacally, a few uncontrollable tears spilling down her cheeks.
“He’s going to kill you. He’s going to kill you all for taking me from him and I can’t wait,” she hisses.
“He?” Lily asks, openly distraught.
“Please,” Mila scoffs, “As if you’ve forgotten him when you’ve been trying to kill us for the past year.”
“Just you wait,” Mila declares, pure hatred dripping from her voice, “Gaius is going to save me and then we’ll kill you all.”
A/N: Again, I don’t have the energy to write out a complete fic but as I was writing my previous thoughts, it sort of turned into a story. I’ll be continuing it as bullet points.

Chapter 11.) Interview With A Vampire.
Tisha sat staring out of the car window as she rode through Manhattan to the highrise home of Senator Adrian Raines. She was on her way to interview his wife Tiana. The Goddess of all Vampires.
To say that she was nervous was an understatement. Tiana is the most powerful being in the universe. And she wants to meet with Tisha.
“Just breathe babe! You’re gonna be fine! It's just a meeting/interview with a literal Goddess. How bad can it be?” Tisha thought to herself as her car pulled up to Raines Corporation HQ.
When she got out of the car, she looked up at the massive building and suddenly the realization of the situation hit her. She was about to interview someone who could brainwash or kill her with just a wink.
“I'm so dead…” she said out loud before taking a shaky breath.
That's when Jax walked out of the building entrance.
“You Latisha Tucker?”
She blinked at him.
“Uh yeah. That's me. I'm here to see Tiana?”
“Yeah, I know. She's upstairs waiting on you. Let's go.”
He turned around and walked back into the building with Tisha trying to keep up behind him. On the ride up to Adrian’s penthouse, Jax could hear Tisha’s heart race.
“You nervous?”
“Yeah. Wouldn't you be if you were meeting with the most powerful person alive?”
Jax shrugged.
“Nope. Tiana’s not gonna hurt you.”
“So I keep hearing…”
“It could be worse. You could be interviewing Gaius Augustine of all people.”
“The vampire that killed Tiana in the first place? No thank you!”
“Exactly.”
“Can I ask you a question?”
Jax looked at her through the reflection of the elevator door.
“What?”
“How long have you known Tiana?”
Jax rolled his eyes.
“This sounds like an interview that I don't want to give.”
“It's just a question!”
“You're a fucking reporter! Questions are your job!” Jax sneered.
“Are you always a jerk?”
“That depends. Are you always a nuisance?”
Tisha let out an aggravated sigh.
“Fine! Note to self: don't piss off the jackass of a vampire.”
“This jackass of a vampire can kill you in multiple different ways. So I'd be grateful that he isn't if I were you.”
“Are you always this brooding?”
“My girlfriend likes it. And so does Tiana.”
Tisha scoffs.
“You have a girlfriend?”
Jax smirked.
“5.”
“Bullshit!”
When Jax turned towards her, his eyes were red and there was an angry scowl on his face.
“Again I could kill you right now. So tread lightly!” he sneered at her.
“Okay! Okay! Sheesh! Don't go getting your panties in a knot!”
Jax shook his head before turning back towards the elevator doors.
“But since you asked, I met Tiana not long after she started working for Adrian. I had to save her life.”
“What happened? Or am I not allowed to ask that?”
Jax rolled his eyes.
“Adrian had stupidly sent her into the lair of The Baron. I saved her when he had his goons drag her to the Bloody Cellars.”
“The Baron?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Who is that?”
“He was one of the six on The Council. It was him, former Senator Adam Vega, Priya LaCroix, Lester Castellanos, Adrian, and Kamilah. They ruled New York for years until Adam tried to stage a hostile takeover. And when Adrian killed him, I joined in his place.”
“And you all ruled for years?”
“Nah. We only lasted about six months.”
“What happened?”
“Gaius ambushed us thanks to Priya. Then he killed The Baron and Lester. It was a whole thing.”
“Wow. Was not expecting all that.”
“It was a crazy time. Hell, we would've all been dead if it weren't for Tiana.”
“You mean when Gaius killed her?”
“Yeah. She died saving all of us. We took it hard. But no one more than Adrian.”
“He told me that he went dark.”
“Oh yeah. Drank himself stupid. And when he wasn't drunk, he was raging. Destroyed his office and his old apartment here.”
Tisha nodded silently.
“Are you mad that she chose Adrian and not you?”
Jax went quiet.
“I used to be. For years, I was jealous. Even hated Adrian for a spell. She's madly in love with him. She married him. Had children with him. How could I not be jealous? But I realized that I had no reason to be jealous.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Just because she's married to him doesn't mean that she doesn't love me. I know she does. And she always will. I love her too.”
Just then the elevator came to a stop.
“We're here.”
“Thank you.”
Jax looked over to her then got out of the elevator without another word. He led Tisha down the hall and into the massive living room. The picture windows had blackout screens on them but still had an amazing view of downtown Manhattan.
“It's beautiful!”
Jax smirked.
“Nothing beats that New York charm. Have a seat and I'll let Tiana know you’re here.”
Tisha took a seat by the massive windows while Jax disappeared down another hall. He returned a few minutes later.
“She’ll be out shortly. In the meantime, you want a drink?”
“Uh sure if it's allowed.”
Jax walked over to the bar and poured two fingers of Scotch for them both.
“Cheers!”
“Here's to the brooding vampire!”
Jax rolled his eyes and downed his drink before pouring another.
“So you and Tiana huh?”
“Yup. She’s the love of my life. And I don't love easily.”
“What about your girlfriends?”
“I love them too. Especially Dawn.”
“But Tiana has your heart?”
Jax stared at his glass for a second.
“Yes. I owe it to her. It was my sword that killed her.”
“I'm sure Tiana doesn't hold it against you.”
“I know she doesn't but that doesn't mean I don't hold it against myself.”
Tisha patted him on the shoulder before finishing her drink. Jax refilled her glass before looking at her with a question in his eyes.
“What about you? What are you doing here?”
“Reporter, remember?”
“Duh! But why are you HERE? Why get involved in all this?”
“Ask Tristan and Adrian.”
“I see.”
“They’re frenemies I guess.”
“Uh-huh. I've never known Raines to not have frenemies.”
“You included?”
“Yeah.”
“Would you like to tell me about that?”
“Maybe another time.”
“So realistically…How long am I supposed to wait?”
Jax scoffed.
“When Tiana is ready to meet with you, trust me you’ll know it.”
As soon as those words left his mouth, Tiana came gliding down the hall and she wasn't alone.
“Oh! My! God! Is that Sam Dalton behind her?”
“Yup. He's one of her playthings.”
“Whaaat?!”
“They've known each other for years. Been sleeping together for that long as well.”
“Wooooow!”
“She's got him wrapped around her finger.”
“I thought Adrian was joking when he told me.”
Jax downed his drink.
“Nope.”
“Jaxxie!”
Tisha watched Jax’s posture soften slightly when he saw Tiana.
“Is this her?” Tiana asked him.
“Yeah. That's her.”
Tiana turned her attention to Tisha.
“Now aren't you just the cutest thing?”
“Uh, thank you?”
Tiana laughed at Tisha’s uneasy tone.
“Calm down sweetie. I don't bite…much.”
Tisha chuckled nervously.
“Jax…will you take Sammy downstairs while Ms. Tucker and I have a little girl time?”
Jax shrugged.
“Move it boy toy!”
Sam rolled his eyes with a smirk.
“I'll see you later, kitten.”
“Of course you will, Stallion.”
With a kiss to each cheek, Sam left with Jax. Leaving Tisha alone with Tiana.
“Come sit with me and we'll chat.”
Tisha followed Tiana to two large wingback chairs. Tisha stopped when she noticed that the chairs sat across from each other in direct sunlight.
“You don't want to sit?” Tiana asked her.
“Yeah I do but those chairs are in sunlight. Doesn't that hurt you?”
Tiana chuckled softly.
“If I weren't the Goddess of all Vampires then yes it would. But I can assure you that it doesn't. Now come sit. We have much to talk about.”
Tisha took the seat across from Tiana.
“And for the love of God sweetie, take a deep breath. I'm not going to tear you to shreds just because my husband is interested in you.”
Tisha took several deep breaths.
“Feel better?”
“Kinda?”
“I'll take it. Now, why don't we get down to why you’re here Ms. Tucker?”
“I'm here on a suggestion from Adrian and Tristan. And well…you’re…you?”
Tiana snickered.
“What would you like to know about me, Tisha?”
Tisha looked at Tiana with curiosity and timidity.
“I want to know everything about you that I won't learn from anyone else.”
Tiana leaned back in her chair with an eyebrow raised.
“Can I get this interview on the record?”
Tiana shrugged.
“Sure. Let's get my life thus far on the record.”
Tisha placed her phone down and began to record, as a slow fanged smile spread across Tiana’s face.
“Ask and you shall receive, Ms. Tucker.”
Tisha inhaled and exhaled slowly.
“Let's get started.”

------------------------------------------------
The first rays of sunshine peered into her chamber through a thin gap under the door.
It was unlikely to hope vampires were ever so prone to all-nighters, specially after crowded events. Yet, there she was, hoping to stay up no matter how weary the island made her feel. The ferals, the tree, the truth spilled by grandpa himself.
The late visit of Gaius Augustine and how it still made her body shiver.
Kicking the blankets aside, Athena sat upright and spared herself one minute to recollect her thoughts. Being related to the enemy and sharing a blood connection was enough to make her heart ache. Then, on the other side, Gaius brought something new to the table of unwelcome contents. She felt broken, dirty, undone. Incapable of facing her friends after last night's events.
Because the enemy is uncharted territory. It should remain that way at all costs.
"Yo!" The door flew open, Lily's cursed timing dragging her out of eerie reveries. "Breakfast's ready. If you can call that a breakfast. There's alcohol, though!"
Forcing herself to deliver a smile, Athena stood to her feet and stretched her arms towards the ceiling.
"Yeah, weirdly enough we never seem to run out of booze."
"Damn right!" The cheerful vampire didn't seem to pick up anything suspicious. Good. Gesturing towards the common room, Lily hurried off and clapped her hands as Athena followed close behind.
"She's alive, champs! A little oozy, though. Must be seasick."
Greeted by the three other vampires, the Bloodkeeper ran a hand through her hair and leaned into the table.
"So," Jax sighed, divided between talking to the squad and polishing the sword on his lap. "We got one sack of blood to make through this trip. Meaning we'll starve a little, but nothing compared to the shit we went through."
Rolling her eyes to his lack of enthusiasm, Kamilah laid back on her seat. Her fingertips drummed on the table's surfice, whereas Adrian's forearms rested upon it.
"Jeez. Tension's thicc." Lily whistled, plopping down between the two older vampires. "We'll each take a sip and pretend we're on a diet. Gotta be on shape to face Rheya, amirite?"
Suddenly inspired, Jax grabbed the sword by the hilt and aimed the blade towards the center of the table.
"And if we give none to the freak, we're saving even more!"
"Stonks!" Lily grinned, and although their sarcasm didn't please her one bit, Kamilah's lips twitched into a smile. Adrian remained impassible, but his eyes searched for Athena's, reading through her distant expression.
"Anything in mind?" He lisped, reaching out to grasp her hand and gently tug her to the empty seat by his side.
"Where's Gaius?" She blurted out, unmoving, much to Adrian's surprise.
"He's brooding."
Kamilah clenched her jaw. The mere mention of that cursed name never ceased to displease her. Jax was the one to point towards a far corner in the room, the tip of his blade glistening under the sunlight.
The man in question had his back turned towards the bunch. He sat down on the floor, his head slightly crooked to one side, hands on his knees. One could tell he was probably meditating to deflect hunger strikes.
They all kind of were. In their own way.
Chewing on the inside of her cheek, Athena picked the bag of blood and considered its content for awhile. They had a little more than a half. Enough for the rest of the day, but not for the days to come.
Squaring up her shoulders, she took the first step towards Gaius only to be stopped by a murmur.
"You're not doing what we think you're doing, are you?" Kamilah squinted, her voice meticulously projected with a warning tone.
Lily was the second to protest, picking at her purple dreadlocks to – poorly – hide her nervousness. "Athena, please tell me you're just going to take your sip near him so he can thirst over temptation..."
Sucking in a breath, she closed her eyes and clutched the bag a little tighter.
"I'll give him a sip."
Jax' fist slammed into the table. A little more force and it'd bend.
"Absolutely not!"
"We need him swell to fight Rheya. He's the strongest of us all. It's only wise!"
"Nothing about this is wise! We have the weapon, we know how to kill her, we don't need him anymore!" Jax sought out to Adrian's support, but the latter didn't even flinch. He studied her with caution, his shoulders slumping helplessly.
Averting her gaze not to meet their eyes, Athena swallowed hard. Hiding the truth was getting more and more difficult, but she was keen on keeping it sealed until the final fight.
"The more help we get, the better. Trust me, I know. I... know too much, to be honest."
With her head lowered, she resumed her pacing and came to a halt once reaching him from behind. She needn't explain her reasons, or allert him of her arrival, just as much as he needn't open his eyes to welcome her into his personal space.
"You came."
She sucked in a sigh.
"That's what she said."
Twitching his face into a grimace, Gaius tensed up when she crouched by his side. The hands on his knees clenched into fists as he struggled to refrain from showing hints of affection.
He knew if they made it clear something else was going on, things would be a lot more complicated than just warming up for war. And she thanked him for his discretion. Even if she herself couldn't share of it.
"I brought you breakfast. It's not much, but it's honest work." She smiled, genuinely this time, no matter how much it hurt to push back the thoughts that swarmed her head.
His lips seemed to curl into a smile for an instant, until crumpling back into a frown.
"Save it. You will need it more than me."
Rolling her eyes, she shoved the bag on his chest.
"We all thirst the same. I'm not asking you to chug, just take a sip."
The hand which held the sack pressed a tad further, and her fingertips gently brushed the exposed skin of his neck. Shuddering under her touch, Gaius recoiled. He snatched the bag from her hand and hissed, his voice dropping to a whisper.
"Last night. Forget it." He opened his eyes at last, only to meet her weary ones. "It was a blunt mistake that I don't wish to dwell on."
Taken aback by the sharpness of his words, Athena glared at him even as he returned the bag and resumed his posture.
"Is that so?" She mumbled, leaning in to let her voice resonate into his ear. "Then I think I can keep the door locked this time."
He growled, building up a retort she didn't stay to hear. Taking a sip of the bag herself, Athena stood to full height and once again rejoined the restless group.
"You guys are right." She hummed, her voice loud and clear. "He's not worth the time."
Getting a nod from each in response, she carefully shot one last glance towards the second son... and witnessed a flinch he masked with a sigh.
[...]
Time went by like the weavering concept it is, lacking roots and the patience they needed to better prepare. Jax spent the afternoon training alongside Lily, having Athena join them once in a while. Adrian and Kamilah immersed themselves into war strategies, their foreheads crinkling at the pace they fumbled with plans.
By the time the sun set, she had already mingled with the team and found enough distractions to flee from the day prior. The Bloodkeeper slipped away from the common room to hide in her chambers, yearning for some time alone. It was hard to face everyone knowing what she knew. Being who she was.
Everyone... but him.
He was the only one who could possibly understand.
Scrunching up her nose at the thought of him, Athena locked the door and tossed the key aside. She stared at it for a second longer, until the faintest noise made her twirl on her heels and adopt a fighting stance.
"There you are." He cooed. His body laid peaceful on her bed, legs crossed and arms wide open, practically an invitation she felt compelled to oblige. But she didn't. Not one bit.
"You told me to forget about last night." The woman hissed, clenching her hands into fists this time around.
Catching sight of it, he smirked.
"Living off past memories can't be healthy, my dear. We both know that." His hand gently patted the spot by his side, his gaze never moving away from hers. "We're bound to make some new ones."
Swallowing hard, she eventually made a beeline towards the bed and yelped when he reached out to pull her by the wrist.
"What the f—"
He didn't give her the time to properly fall on the mattress. He pulled her in, their bodies pressing together, and slithered a hand up her arm to delicately reach her chin.
Athena gasped at his subtlety, moreover at the thumb that brushed over her bottom lip before settling on her jaw.
"Something bothers you as much as it does me." Gaius lisped at first, his expression surprisingly soft despite the intensity of his actions prior. "Something that happened at the island." He looked her in the eye, struggling not to stare at her lips instead.
"What did Demetrius do to you?"
His concern was more than welcome; however, his curiosity was not. Unwilling to share the truth so soon, she closed her eyes to escape his glare and shuddered at the reminder of the things that were at stake.
Taken aback by her display of fragility, he eased the embrace and stroked her cheek with his knuckles. This made her curl up against him, her hands clutching the fabric of his vests. Sighing, he stroked her hair.
"Sacrifices, Athena." Distraught, Gaius laid his chin upon her head. "Whether it be your mind, your ideals or those you love... they're never viable."
She tilted her head to face him, her eyes red but no tears left for him to wipe. They stood silent for a long while, just gazing into each other's hues, until he brushed their noses together and finished his thought.
"They're simply... inevitable."
Her eyes fluttered closed. As did his. And without further ado, they latched at each others lips.

She Trips In The Woods: Open Wound
This is an absolutely hilarious fanfic my great friends @kennaxval @sawyeroakleyscowboyhat @begging-for-kamilah @strangerofbraidwood @stopforamoment @tornbetween2loves wrote for my birthday!!!!!!!!!!! I cried laughing while reading this and words aren't enough to describe how thankful I am for all of you who found the time in your schedules to rite this masterpiece!! To the people who don;t know this already, I've working together on this super project, @choicecrossover, for the past months with all these geniuses!!! It's been a blast getting to know all of these phenomenal writers and I'll be forever grateful for this opportunity <3
The woods around Julia were dark and oppressive,  a stark contrast to her own bubbly and upbeat personality. Her various woodland creature companions all faithfully gathered around her in a posse of fur and claws, all speaking the language of their own species as they gallivanted through the trees like a literal Disney princess.
A large shadow flew in front of her, causing her to shriek loudly in surprise. She stumbled backwards, her ankle catching a fallen tree limb and twisting painfully as she fell onto the hard forest floor.
“You aren’t a woodland creature!” she shouted after the mysterious shadow as it disappeared behind the trees, a strange laughter coming from the mischievous apparition. She rubbed her ankle painfully, cursing her ill luck.
“Curse my ill luck!” she shouted.
One of her furry companions approached her tentatively, bopping her with his cold nose. She stared into the canines eyes, feeling an understanding pass between them and knowing what she must do.
“I know what I must do!” she said happily, looking into the dog’s eyes.
“Run like the wind, go forth and find me help!”
The dog stared into her eyes, an understanding passing between animal and master. He sniffed Julia carefully, making sure she was alright. Then he lifted his leg and peed on her stomach, marking her. Making sure she would be safe until he got back. Julia was HIS bitch and no one else’s.
The dog streaked through the woods, dodging rocks and scooting under low branches. Suddenly he stopped, ears pricked. He heard footsteps. The dog eased forward cautiously, but not cautiously enough. The clumsy human tripped over him, face planting into the ground.
Jesus Fucking H. Bi-peds were the most useless creatures. The dog began to nudge the human, whimpering and licking his face.
“Easy boy, it’s ok, I’m fine I just tripped,” Bryce said as he stood up and brushed the dirt from his butt. The dog barked at him, then turned to head further into the woods, stopping and barking again when he realized he wasn’t being followed.
Bryce laughed and shook his head. “What is it boy? Did Timmy fall down the well?” He cracked up laughing at his own joke as he jogged after the dog. He followed the dog through the woods, becoming a little more hesitant as the woods became thicker and darker.
He was just about to turn back when he saw her. And smelled her. Whew! Sprawled out at the base of a huge tree with gnarly, thick roots was the most beautiful creature he had ever laid eyes on. He stood up straight and rushed to her side, kneeling beside her. He asked her name as he assessed her situation. Her voice was meek and soft.
“I’m Julia.” He flashed her a megawatt smile. “I’m Bryce and I’m going to help you Julia. Do you think you can walk?”
“I... I’m just too weak”, she sighed dramatically, placing the back of her hand across her forehead like a damsel in distress.
“Well don’t you worry about that ma’am, I’m going to get you all the help you need.”
Bryce lifted Julia into his strong, muscular arms, careful not to hurt any potential injuries.
“Wow, you’re so strong”, she gasped as he carried her through the woods with ease.
“Oh no, not really”, he chuckled as he flexed his muscles. He then decided to show Julia just how strong he really was. He held her in one arm, then decided to pick his dog up with his other arm.
Julia’s eyes widened in awe.
“Oh no, this is nothing”, he smiled.
Before she could respond, they had arrived at the hospital despite having been in the woods just sentences ago. The dog was also somehow safe at home now since he probably wasn’t allowed in the hospital itself.
All of a sudden, everything became a rush. As soon as Bruce stepped through the hospital’s double doors, it was as if he were a new person.
“QUICKLY, WE MUST GET THIS POOR WOMAN A BED IMMEDIATELY!”
“But Bryce, I’m fine, it’s only a twisted ankle. Nothing is even bro-“
“Shhhhhh. It’s alright. You’re delirious but you’ll survive.”
Within moments, Bryce laid Julia down into a hospital bed tenderly.
“I’m going to hand you over to the care of an intern now Julia. She’s very capable. You’ll like Jackie.”
At that moment, a beautiful young lady came in with a very cheeky smile.
“So, you’re the woman causing the entire hospital to fall into chaos”, Jackie smirked.
“I guess... but I don’t really know why. I was in the woods when I-“
“Fell from heaven?”
“Errrr...”
“I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t flirt with a patient. Especially one in such critical condition.”
“Critical condition? I’m not even bleeding!”
“Bryce warned me that you were delirious. It’ll be alright Julia. I’m going to wheel your bed onto a ward now, to prep you for surgery.”
“SURGERY?!”
But it was too late. Before Jackie had even heard Julia, she was already on a ward full of patients.
On the bed next to hers lay a young sweet man, drinking a strange milky red substance. He turned to face her and was immediately taken aback.
“Oh... I hope you don’t mind me saying but... you’re extraordinarily beautiful. I’m Tom, by the way.”
Without warning, a screen popped in front of Julia that read “Say ‘hi’ to Tom for 30 diamonds or tell him you don’t like talking to people for free.”
Julia wanted to say “hi.” Tom seemed a friendly enough guy, but she knew she had to be careful with her diamonds and reluctantly told him she doesn’t like talking to people.
Instead of a dejected face, which Julia expected, Tom seemed eerily ok with the exchange and a nurse quickly came to wheel his bed out into another room.
Just as Tom was brought out, two more bed were pushed in to either side of Julia. She waited a moment, curious to see if talking to her new companions represented another diamond choice before looking to her left to see a beautiful woman clothed in white silk with blood red eyes and dark skin and hair.
“Excuse me, I don’t know if this is allowed but…”
“Oh, it’s allowed. You may talk to me as much as you please, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up about us doing anything more if I were you. I’m Priya, and I can tell you that even if you spend every single diamond you have, I’ll never be your love interest. Sure, there will be options for us to flirt, but don’t get too excited or else, Adrian or some other forced male will swoop in to stop you from being able to make your own choices. You’d have better luck with your neighbor to the right.”
Julia turned away, discouraged. But even more, once she saw the man next to her. He appeared to sweat grease out of his pores, had a reddish hue to his face, but more of an “I’m constantly angry” red as opposed to an “I get a lot of sun” look. He had a badge on his chest that read “Walsh.” Julia turned back to Priya.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!”
The vampire shrugged. “I don’t make the rules, I just follow them. Do you really think I’d be attracted to the likes of Gaius Augustine?” Priya gagged. “All I can say is that I’m glad fic writers exist or else I’d never get any proper action.”
Julia watched Priya carefully, a feeling of confusion washing over her.
"What on earth is going on?"
Before anyone could answer, Julia found herself sat in the hospital canteen. On one side of her sat the man from earlier, Tom, sipping away at his strange tomato milkshake. On the other side of her sat a pensive looking man with a hat on.
Opposite the trio sat two more people- a handsome man holding a large sword (where the hell was security in this place?!) and a stunning young woman with purple hair and glasses.
"So... can I speak without paying diamonds or...?"
Tom chuckled.
"Sure you can. Well, to some of us at least. By the way, this is my buddy Noah", he said, giving a nod to the quiet man on the other side of her.
"And this guy here is Jax. He likes to cook and slash things with his sword."
Jax gave an eye roll.
"You can talk to any of us for free. But next to Jax is Lily. It'll be 17 diamonds upfront if you want to converse with her."
Julia exhaled in frustration.
"But I only have 21, and you can't do anything with 3 diamonds!"
Tom shrugged.
"I don't make the rules."
"Okay, fine. I'll pay the diamonds. Where do I pay exactly?"
Without warning, a screen above Julia's head appeared and subtracted the 17 diamonds.
"Hey girl, I'm Lily", the woman opposite her smiled.
"Okay cool. So, now that I can talk to all of you, I wanted to ask what the hell is going on?!"
"What do you mean?", Tom asked, sipping away at his thick, red milkshake. He slid a bottle of the goop over to Julia, which she took hold of absentmindedly without drinking.
"Well, I was just in the woods, then I tripped. And this surgeon Bryce found me. But he got all weird and dramatic, and said I needed surgery. But I'm not even that hurt! What's happening?!"
All of a sudden, the entire canteen froze in place. A white screen popped up above Julia's head. It read: "What could Bryce possibly want with you? Find out in the next chapter of "She Trips In The Woods: Open Wound."
Julia reached up to the white screen and touched the tick. She was immediately rewarded with 2 diamonds, before another screen popped up. It read: "Watch ad to gain reward".
"Might as well", Julia thought with a shrug as she ticked the box.
For the next 45 seconds, Julia sat and watched an extremely boring advert for Homescapes. She drummed her fingers atop the canteen table waiting eagerly for it to end. When it was finally over, she reached up and pressed the "tick".
"Sorry. Reward could not be collected. Try again later."
With an irritable groan, Julia found herself taken to another screen. This time, her own story popped up before her.
"The next chapter", she gasped with excitement. She hit to play the next instalment, only for ANOTHER screen to pop up. (Seriously, what the hell is up with all these screens?!)
It read: "To buy a key, pay $1.99 or wait 1hr 58m for your next key."
"Oh my god, what the fu-"
***
Julia sat up and looked around. She was safe and sound in her bed. She glanced at her phone and it was only 3am. She sighed with relief before chuckling to herself.
"What a weird ass dream", she smiled before rolling over onto her side and drifting off to sleep, clearly not noticing the bottle of tomato milkshake down by the side of her bed...

In My Veins - KamilahXMC Fanfiction (Chapter 10)
Tumblr media
Summary: Inspired by Lovestruck’s “Havenfall is For Lovers” (Antonio). Amy is a regular, small-town girl looking for her first job in New York City. When she gets kidnapped by the powerful CEO, Kamilah Sayeed, she’ll have to discover her true goals… before it’s too late.
Genre: Romance
Rating: T
Tag List: @begging-for-kamilah, @ilovekamilahsayeed, @lulu-the-cat
Notes:
- English is not my first language, so I apologize for any mistakes - This fanfic is slightly inspired by Lovestruck’s story Havenfall Is For Lovers - Antonio, but I intend to make it more interesting and steamier too :P
- I hope you enjoy it, your likes and reviews are always appreciated.
- Warning: Angst alert for the flashback and first part of Kamilah’s POV. The flashback contains minor violence, gore and abuse. You can skip if you want as it don’t affect the understanding of the chapter.
- Please don’t hate me for the flashback.
Flashback - Italy, 16th Century
Kamilah’s eyes widened in a mix of shock and anger. In front of her, life quickly escaped her lover’s body through the two puncture wounds in her neck. If she was fast enough there was still a chance she could save her, or at least Turn her. She attempted to take one step in her direction, when Gaius prevented her.
“Were you going to run away from me, my queen?” He asked, with blood still dripping from his mouth.
The expression of sadness on his face could almost convince her he was truly hurt, if she didn’t know him so well. She wondered how he had discovered about her plans. This time, she had planned everything carefully.
She gulped, unable to answer his question.
He approached her, touching her chin and lifting up her face so she’d look straight in his eyes.
“Answer.”
She took a deep breath, trying to appear calm and confident.
“Y-Yes,” she finally said.
“Kamilah, my queen…” he shook his head in disappointment. “Were you in love with this foolish mortal?”
“N-no,” Kamilah lied, although she knew it was useless. “I thought I was! She… She seduced me. Everything she desired was to get rid of her husband, the Duke.“
"You’ve disappointed me, Kamilah. You exist because of my blood. My blood turned into the queen you are,” he brushed a strand of hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. “What am I going to do with you, my queen?”
His cold gaze penetrated directly at her soul. She knew that look, for centuries. Knowing what came next, a shiver went down her spine.
“A-Anything you want… my love.”
“Kamilah…” He let out a laugh. A sadistic laugh. “Kneel down. Beside her.”
Kamilah obeyed, kneeling down next to her lover. She observed as she still struggled to breath. Caterina was fighting to keep herself alive. Her sweet and pure Duchess Caterina.
“Feed. Until the last ounce of blood.”
Kamilah gently traced her jugular, feeling her weak pulsation. She remembered the day they met, at a masquerade ball and the adrenaline of their secret encounters in the middle of the night. She was looking for only an adventure, but the feeling between them was growing into something else.
“No,” Kamilah lowered her head and shouted.
“What did you say?!” Gaius’ eyes turned red in anger.
“I said ‘no’!" She stood up to confront him.
For a second he didn’t show any reaction, then a blue flame erupted from the palm of his hand. Kamilah felt her body was being held by invisible strings.
"Gaius, I’m sorry…” she cried. “Please, I’m begging you.”
As the clenched his fist, the strings became tighter and tighter, smashing every single bone inside Kamilah’s body. She fell on the floor squirming in pain. At that moment, she wished for the same fate as any mortal. Death.
“If you’re going to kill me, just do it!”
The pain stopped. Gaius came to her, helping her to sit down.
“Not today, my queen,” his cold hand touched her face. “Let’s go home, then I’ll decide what your punishment is going to be.”
————————————————————————————————-
“Kamilah, are you alright?”
Adrian’s voice, along with his hand gripping on her shoulder, brought Kamilah back to reality.
“My apologies,” she looked down, noticing her hands were shaking. “I spaced out for a moment. How’s Lily going?”
“So far, nothing.”
Kamilah went back to Adrian’s car, where Lily worked on cracking the new password to give them access to the library.
“We don’t have the whole night, you know,” she complained.
“Kamilah, it takes time. I still need to figure out the last two digits.”
The vampire rolled her eyes and rested her head on the car’s seat.
“I know you’re worried too,” Lily broke the silence. “But Amy isn’t any girl. She’s brave, she’s strong… She’ll figure out a way to protect herself. I know it. I know she’s alive.”
“She has to be.”
Kamilah left the car again, worried about what, or who, awaited for them behind that door.
“Prove it. Prove me your loyalty!”
As she felt she was being pulled back into those memories again, she returned to Adrian’s side.
“It’s impressive how after all this time he still has power over our thoughts,” he vented.
Kamilah looked at him, replying with a supportive nod. There wasn’t much she could said at the moment.
————————————————————————————————-
The Shadow Den was a strange place, but Amy couldn’t help feeling protected. Jax, the vampire who rescued her, revealed himself to be the leader of the Clanless and that was their secret hideaway.
He was doing everything to keep her safe. He placed her on a comfortable room, then called a doctor, who had knowledge about the vampire world, to see her. She’d need a small blood transfusion, what was provided inside the Shadow Den, going out right now was too risky.
Amy felt bad for him and his people, knowing that without a brand they couldn’t turn into Ferals at any moment. They talked briefly, but she learned all of them were turned without their consent and now they needed to live hidden.
“So, what’s the deal with your blood?” Jax asked after the doctor left. “Why they were after it?”
“It can bring people back from the dead,” Amy explained. “That’s what I’ve been told. Now, what about you? What were you doing in that library?”
Jax pulled a chair, sitting next to the bed.
“Jameson has been recruiting Clanless Vampires for a while now, with the promise they’d be given a brand and better life conditions. I infiltrated myself among them, to know what he was planning.”
He silenced.
“And?” Amy looked at him intrigued to know the rest.
“He’s working for Gaius Augustine. They planned to resurect someone using your blood… a woman.”
“I heard them talking before you saved me. Jameson called her ‘Our Majesty’?”
Jax felt silent again, as if he was trying to find sense in what Amy just told him.
Amy looked at her watch, it had passed midnight. Kamilah should be after her.
“Jax?” She called. “Would borrow me your phone? I need to warn Kamilah about what is going on.”
“Kamilah Sayeed?!” His expression changed. “D-Do you work for her or something?”
“It’s uh… a long and complicated story.”
“She can’t know you’re here. The Council members are not allowed at the Shadow Den. If they find out about this place, our entire population is in danger.”
“She’s different. She’s not like Vega or Priya, okay? She has promised me she’d do something about the Clanless in the future.
He let out a laugh.
"Really? You really believe that…” he shook his head. “I’m sorry, Amy. You should rest now. When you recover, you can go after her, without involving my people.”
————————————————————————————————-
As Lily typed the last digit, the door opened with a metallic hiss. Kamilah tightened the grip around her daggers. Her advanced senses couldn’t detect any presence coming from inside Musea Sangris.
“Lily, you should have this," Adrian handed Lily a crossbow as they walked inside.
"This is so…” she was interrupted by Kamilah, who asked her to be quiet.
“Jameson?” Adrian called. “I’m here to talk.”
Nobody answered. At this point, Jameson must knew they’d be coming after Amy.
Kamilah headed to a specific direction. An aisle she was very familiar with. The aisle where the sarcophagus was at. Almost a century ago, she declared her freedom by helping the other members of the Council to defeat Gaius. She knew, now he was back, he’d get a revenge against her. And he’d find the most painful way to do it.
She stopped breathing, her heart was racing inside her chest and in a impulse, she opened it. Empty, as she and Adrian suspected all this time.
She barely had any time to recompose herself, Lily screamed from the other side of the library indicating she was in danger. Kamilah streaked to her direction, where a female vampire was holding her by the neck. Swinging her arms in a scissor-chop move, Kamilah cut her head off before she could even be aware of her presence.
“Whoa,” Lily said, regaining her breath. “How long is it going to take for me to become a badass vampire like you?”
“A few centuries and a lot of practice.”
“Ah,” Lily gave her a disappointed look.
A few meters ahead, Adrian fought alone with a group with three vampires. With his bare hand, he was able to rip off the heart of one of them, but the other two wouldn’t give him a rest. After a strong blow, he fell on the floor, where one of the remaining vampires held a blade against his throat.
“This is your end, Raines,” he mocked. “Your money will be a great help for the Clanless.”
His hysterical laugh was stopped when a glistening dagger flew through the air, decapitating him.
“Nice shot,” Lily congratulated Kamilah.
“Nah, I can do better than that.”
Noticing their presence, the last Clanless vampire came to their direction.
“Would you like to do the honors?” Kamilah asked.
Lily nodded, positioning the crossbow. She waited for the right moment, aimed and shot, with her eyes closed.
“You…” Kamilah opened her mouth in shock, as the enemy converted into ashes. “Straight at the heart.”
“I did?!” Lily could not believe herself. “Well, it always worked when I’m playing video games.”
Kamilah rolled her eyes at her. Then, she went checking on Adrian. He revealed a piece of paper he stole from one of his opponents.
“The Dragons Of The Five Kingdoms,” she read. “Sounds like the name of a book.”
“And this number could be the aisle and shelf.”
Adrian recomposed himself and followed to a indicated coordinates, finding the book. As he pulled it out from the shelf, a secret passage was revealed.
Kamilah felt a shiver running through her entire body.
“Lily, stay behind us. We don’t know what or who we’re going to meet down there.”
Downstairs, not a single sound could be heard. The long corridor was poorly illuminated. Without knowing what direction to go, Kamilah decided to trust her instincts and they detected a familar smell. Blood… Human blood.
“Amy.”
She ran through corridor, entering a chamber in the left. Inside, she found a bed and a machine, that had been used recently to drain blood.
“No, she can’t be…"
"Kamilah, look,” Adrian pointed to the bed and the cut restraints. “It seems like she was able to escape.”
“Then where is she? She must be here… somewhere”
She ran in advanced speed, searching for Amy in every corner in the recently discovered location. She wasn’t anywhere. And neither was Gaius.
She clenched her fists in rage. A sensation she hadn’t felt for a long time started to burn into her chest. A pain that she had been protecting herself for centuries. The pain of losing someone she had strong feelings for. In deep sadness, she quickly passed through Lily and Adrian, returning to the library.
“Kamilah?” Jameson came in her direction. “What brings you here?”
“Your…” She lunged in his direction, grabbing him by the neck. “What did you do to her?! Where’s Amy?”
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about… Who’s Amy?”
“Oh… don’t pretend you don’t know,” she tightened even more the grip, nearly crushing his throat. “What about Gaius? When did he become such a coward? Where did he go?”
Unable to speak or even breath, Jameson made some incomprehensible noises. Kamilah’s eyes glowed in pure rage. With her free hand, she reached for one her daggers. Pointing it straight at Jameson’s heart.
“Kamilah, wait,” Adrian interrupted.
“Adrian, don’t. He killed her! He killed Amy.”
“But,” he placed his hand on top of hers. “He certainly knows more than he’s telling. We should capture and take him to The Council first, maybe we can obtain some information.”
Hesitantly, Kamilah let Jameson go. As Adrian and Lily restrained him, she went outside. Amy was dead. Because of her. The sun was almost rising and the last thing she wanted was to return home, where memories of the last few weeks would be haunting her forever.
“You make me want to be better. So I can be half of the woman you deserve,” Amy’s voice resounded inside her mind.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t be the woman you deserved, Amy.”
Inside her pocket, her cellphone started to ring. A number she didn’t recognize.
“Oh please,” Kamilah sighed, “give me a break.”
She declined the call, convinced it was work-related. The number insisted once more.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t speak right now,” she answered.
“Kamilah, it’s me. Amy.”

Who's the monster now? - Adrian x MC fanfic
Summary: After celebrating their victory on Vega, and falling asleep in Adrian’s arms, Annie finally wakes up. In more ways than one.
Author’s note: This idea kinda randomly popped into my head, so I wrote it down.
I’m really hoping the MC is the first vampire, or at least some kind of reincarnation of her.
I stuck to the narrative that states being/becoming a vampire changes you. Even our sweet little Adrian says so and obviously it had changed him, along the years - even if he fought to stay as human as possible.
Also, this fanfic mainly revolves around the MC. It’s a bit darker than what I usually write for them, but I think this should be dealt with, too.

Annie was laying, tangled in Adrian's embrace.
They've spent the night together and now were immersed in a blissful sleep. Or at least Adrian was.
Annie's mind was someplace else. She couldn't shake the feeling it wasn't over just yet.
And obviously some things that Adrian said while he was in that super-vampire mode had got her thinking.
"And you... what are you...?" His words echoed in her ears, remembering how he tilted his head and narrowed his eyes in confusion and curiousity.
What does that even mean? Was she anything other than human?
She felt human, but some things were beyond explain.
She couldn't place her finger on it, but the name Adrian and Kamilah mentioned, that Gaius Augustine, was familiar.
Not - I've heard it somewhere before familiar. But Annie felt as if she knew him. In another life. Or maybe in this one?
What was she thinking? She tried to shake her head. It was pounding, as if she was in some kind of trance, and getting out was no option.
Fragments of a tapestry formed in the back of her mind. She has never seen a photo or a drawing of Gaius's, but she could swear she knew how he looked like.
Memories of Adrian, Kamilah and other council members flooded her mind. Memories she couldn't have had. Something wasn't right.
But it felt so incredibly real. It felt... -
Adrian shuffling in his sleep, inhaling sharply startled Annie awake from her trance.
She looked at him, grateful but even more confused than before.
But Adrian was asleep and had no idea what was going on in Annie's mind. If she was completely honest, she wasn't sure, either.
Sitting up, she slipped out of Adrian's grip and went towards the living room of his penthouse.
Grabbing Adrian's shirt from the floor, she threw it over her head and tip-toed towards one of the grand windows, opening it in silence and letting the cool air night meet her face.
The view was mesmerizing, honestly. Annie took a moment to appreciate it.
It was easier to clear her mind, that way.
Thoughts filled her mind, once again. But different ones, this time.
She thought of Adrian.
How different he seemed now from the version of him she met in the beginning.
The mysterious, alluring CEO that had a heart of gold underneath, a soft soul and a hopeful outlook of life.
In contrast to the Adrian she knew now. The Adrian that fought almost every war she could think of. The Adrian that was hoping for a better future, but didn't see it in the horizon. The Adrian that acted predatory over her, that looked at her with blood red luminous and hungry eyes and didn't stop until she had to remind him who she was.
A shiver ran down her spine, and all through her body, and Annie wasn't sure if it had anything to do with her thoughts or the chilly night air that blew her way.
Should she be afraid of Adrian? Probably yes.
Was she? Definitely not.
She felt nothing but safe and sound with Adrian. Safe, loved, and cherished.
But in second thought, that was what monsters did, wasn't it? Lured you in, making you believe everything was perfectly fine - Until it wasn't.
She was sick to her stomach at that thought. Adrian was no monster.
But maybe she was, thinking like that.
She shut her eyes.
Suddenly she was very aware of the fact she was standing naked, nothing but Adrian's oversized T-shirt thrown over her body. It was as if she could actually sniff his scent off the shirt. But it wasn't as if the shirt reeked of his smell, and her senses shouldn't have been nearly as strong as they were.
She should've felt dizzy, her mind was playing tricks on her and her stomach was doing backflips.
But instead of feeling dizzy or having a massive, presistant headache - She felt good.
Fierce, strong... She felt amazing. As if the world was in the palm of her hand, in her mercy.
Without opening her eyes, she could feel the sun starting to rise. A buzzing, warm, pleasant feeling danced around her skin.
She smiled, despite herself.
She sensed his footsteps, even though Adrian didn't make much noise when he moved.
She could hear his words even before he spoke up.
But still, she waited.
"Annie?"
Just as she imagined, his tone was baffled. She didn't have to open her eyes to see the look on his face. Eyebrows raised, arched in a confused matter, a weak smile. His hand scratching the back of his neck.
"What are you doing? Is everything alright?" He added, as she anticipated.
"Everything's..." She smiled, snapping her eyes open. "Perfect."
She could see her reflection in the windows glass.
She could also see Adrian's shocked expression on it too.
She studied her face, somehow feeling... Not like herself.
As if she was staring at someone else's reflection. But it was her.
And it was her bloody red eyes, reflecting in the glass in front of her.
"Annie...?!"
