Feel like tumblr in its wizard Renaissance would love Terry Pratchett's Wizards discworld books.

have you guys read the one where the wizards fight the embodiment of a mall? like a shopping mall? the one where they climb through the geography wizard's window and have a beach day? the one where they almost destroyed the world fighting eachother from cool wizard towers because of a magic boy with an evil staff?

and after the world is put back right they all just...keep working together passive aggressively (mostly passively) at wizard University?

MUST READ BOOKS HELL YEAH

ok I have quite a few but I’ll keep my list at 5 for now 🤗🤗🤗

1. Pilu of the Woods by Mai K. Nguyen

I did this one as a buddy read and it changed me. The story follows a young girl as she helps a forest spirit find her way back home. The themes deal with death, grief, and how we deal with emotions, namely by bottling them up. It’s a graphic novel that’s beautiful.

2. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I don’t read a lot of YA books but this one is amazing. It’s rooted in the Black Lives Matter movement, featuring characters who are dealing with the unjust death of a friend by the hands of police. Starr, the main character, is passionate and gives us a strong narrative fired with emotions, sometimes conflicting.

3. My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell

Flash back: I’m in my IB Biology class and my (favorite) teacher borrows me this book.

I wasn’t into it the first time I read it, but the second time? I ate it up. It’s a true story by Gerald Durrell on how his family up and moved from England to the island of Corfu, and writes about his adventures with the wildlife and his siblings, who could also be considered part of the wildlife. It’s witty, funny, and gave me a newfound appreciation for life & nature.

4. Snapdragon by Kat Leyh

Holy cannoli, did I love this graphic novel. It’s got everything! Lgbtq rep, witches, taxidermy, self discovery, old love, and family drama. You’re following our main character Snapdragon as she befriends the local witch and how they start to bond with each other. Snap’s mom is super cool, too! Actually, all the characters are rich and well put together.

5. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Accompanied by the amazing artwork of Dave McKean, Neil Gaiman spins us a story of mystery, growth, and self-realization. It start with a murder that leaves a baby in the care of a graveyard full of ghosts and a mysterious protector. As the boy, Nobody (Bod for short), grows up, he must learn the tricks of the graveyard and be hidden from a murderer who is still looking for him. Does this sound interesting? It’s even better once you read it, trust me.

That’s all for now, but those are some of my favorite books that I think I’d consider “must reads”. My favorite book is Watership Down, but as it is large and not everyone’s cup of tea, I’ll leave it off the list for now. If you’re interested, it does feature an epic journey taken on by a group of rabbits looking for a home. Check it out if you want!

I received Here in Avalon by Tara Isabella Burton from Simon & Schuster sometime around January. I've been looking forward to reading this book for a while now as I think it's something I would highly enjoy.
