I could only find a couple photos of this species that I could legally share, but I can link this better photo here! The iridescent blue is beautiful :)
This guy was on our apple tree and not moving. I let it crawl onto my finger and then moved it slightly higher up just in case of predators/people. Is it a nocturnal moth and meant to be doing that? It's 3pm where I am.
Yes, it's nocturnal. Nocturnal moths will generally sit unmoving on surfaces during the day. This one is camouflaged pretty well if you don't have human eyesight and a human brain to tell you it's moth-shaped.
