If I had a dollar for every post I’ve seen claiming Alicent will abandon her family for Rhaenyra I could pay off my mortgage lol

It’s just hilarious to me that they will insist Rhaenicent is “feminist” that word really needs to be stopped thrown around simply because Rhaenyra’s got a vagina.

They’re other go to tactic is to insist all the men in HotD (on both sides) are evil incarnate whilst all HotD women are innocents who can do no wrong. Therefore Alicent is in the wrong for supporting devil man Aegon II instead of girl-boss Kween Rhae Rhae. She needs to be “redeemed” by abandoning the evil men for Barbieland Dragonstone.

Well they say “all male characters are bad!!!” but Rhaenyra’s precious Strong boys are conveniently missed out 🤷🏽‍♀️

hotd is determent to keep pushing the narrative that alicent and rhaenyra never wanted this war. they're not allowed to be angry, resentful, ambitious, cunning. book!alicent's the leader of the green faction & the green council VS show alicent had no idea this was happening apparently? book!rhaenyra was screaming during childbirth that she'll murder all the greens VS show rhaenyra who of course never wanted war :( it's all daemon :(

this is what i like to call feminism written by men. still very much enforcing the monster VS angel stereotype where woman are either victims or monsters. and sure, alicent and rhaenyra ARE victims of the patriarchy. BUT they can also be cunning, power-hungry, ambitious, vengeful. but of course only men are allowed to be "cool evil", or "morally grey" and have bad ass moments.

after being on a mega long asoiaf writing streak, i havent written for a full 24 hours and i think ive lost my mojo 😭😭

istg i need to push thru and make more chapters of my rhaenyra time travel fic cos i need a smart rhaenyra who actually plays the “game of thrones”

like i love rhaenyra but she was too impulsive and did not think about her actions at all which led her only option to be to birth bastards (she at least couldve found a valyrian guy somehow tho)

if rhae was smart and a bit willing to be evil, she shouldve spread rumours about alicent and aegon being a bastard causing viserys’ hasty remarriage with her. alicent’s team spread rumours about her and literally have 2 major spy networking ppl with them, yet rhaenyra had NO CONNECTIONS!!

no connections regarding spys,r rumours wnd smallfolk but also barely any connections with nobility except for the velaryons but that was only the main line cos vaemond + i assume more, were pissed at her. and corlys and rhaenys alliance with rhae wasn’t even that strong because of the rumours she orchestrated laenor’s death, and marrying daemon like two mins after laenas death. like girl u seriously did the deed with him ON THE FUNERAL OF HIS WIFE 😭😭

rhaenyra fully expected that just because of her being called heir, that people would accept her but then is also fully aware that people undermine womens authority and don’t want her. she saw how the hightowers and lannisters treated her and these are major houses with influence so she should’ve had ideas on how to stand her ground as heir. she did nothing exc run off to dragonstone after alicent’s team spread rumours of her. she should’ve just asked viserys “can i be ur hand/regent since ur ill and i want to learn my duties as future queen”

Hello...umm, not sure where you got that idea from?!

I got asked a question about this just after the cancellation was announced and my answer is here.

Rereading it, it's perhaps not my most coherent explanation, but the gist is nope, not abandoned the stories but did have to temporarily abandon the fandom and show - for a number of reasons (many of which aren't really for sharing specifics about on tumblr) but in summary (which isn't really summarised so is under a cut):

- I have family history that means I don't cope well with baby storylines in TV shows. [I missed the entire original L Word apart from clips on youtube of Alice/Dana and Bette/Jodi because the literal first line of dialogue in the first episode of s1 was 'let's make a baby'.]

-I don't cope well with needlessly ruined wlw character storylines in service of a generic straight male for no good reason storylines

- I don't cope with poor showrunning. [By all means, make a 'bad' show in terms of market share/appeal, reviews etc, but make it well. Have some continuity, some recollection about how many brain cells your characters have week to week, etc etc. Keep your fictional versions of real world constructs (like fire departments say) at least plausibly real rather than go into pure fantasy where anything goes in terms of negligence and lack professionalism that goes way, way beyond anything remotely legal.]

All of which meant I had to step away from the show fairly quickly in s5, and then the fandom pretty much completely through s6 precisely so I didn't abandon the stories.

mid 2022 onwards though, through all of 2023...it was a wild and not particularly healthy ride for me. But one thing I'm very, very good at is writing for shows which aren't going to accidentally shaft my fic by droppng a new episode which completely distorts the characters we were familiar with. [Proof if proof were needed that I refound my writing mojo in general after RL crap with a show that finished 23 years ago, Voyager].

All of which is a very long winded way of saying fear not, I haven't abandoned my Station 19 stories...I'm actually really looking forward to returning to them, once I am in the right headspace and have obsessively rewatched s3 and a lot of s4 scenes (but not the last 3 episodes, as my father unexpectedly died the day the first of those 3 eps dropped and it's all rather synonymous for me with that).

Ziggs Headcanons Because I Can

As y’all can see, I have gone briefly down the Jae rabbithole again. But yeah. I adore Ziggs, so have some of my thoughts!

- Ziggy named themself after Ziggy Stardust, the titular character of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Because let’s be honest: wasn’t David Bowie all of our gay awakenings?

- They founded the smoke club, but they were also the first person to leave it. Joey and Lauren’s smokers “killed their mojo”.

- When they’re not living with Emma on the farm, they foster dogs. 

- They ran the GSA/ equivalent at Hatchetfield High. That’s where they met Deb

- They really like Alice, and they really like how happy Deb is around her. 

- This does not mean they have not made a few mistakes while they were drunk/ high

- They always did the posters for local shows

- They’ve also performed a bit

- Deb tries to get Alice to cast them in her play

- Alice does not do it. Not because Ziggs wouldn’t do well with it. Because she’s just petty enough to deny them a role out of jealousy, and it’s her show.

- They’re a gifted kid who burnt out really early

- Like we’re talking 12? 13 at the oldest.

- The pressure on them to maintain a certain image just became too much, so they gave up on every aspect of it- including academics/ the urge to seem intelligent.

- And the doubt that comes with that actually allowed themself to figure out who they really were pretty early. 

- With that also comes the impulse to smoke. 

- Because when they smoke, they can escape the disappointment of their family. 

- Moving out was the best thing to ever happen to them

- Despite their own parents’ disdain for them, a lot of the parents around town genuinely like Ziggs

- They do a lot of babysitting

- Because they’re harmless for the most part. Just a bit high.

- In timelines where they don’t go to jail/ where Perky’s Buds never happens, they do eventually find themself in a place where they’re happy.

- And at that point, they kick the habit.

- They have a lot of support doing it too. 

- They always volunteer to be the chaperone to the pride/ queer events at Hatchetfield High as an adult

- They get really into being the queer big sibling of all the LGBTQ+ kids in Hatchetfield.

- Like their doors are open any time, and all the kids know that. 

- And yes. They do eventually find themself a girl with tigolbitties.

(actively distracting myself) anyway how about that giant grinpayne head, huh? crazy stuff. did you know that it’s the only puppet in the show that alice barclay doesn’t puppeteer? unless you count it as a mask or something and not a puppet. in which case she handles every puppet in the show. she was half of mojo, naturally, but she was also the only person to actually puppeteer baby dea (other people move her around though). and we know that she is one of the “professional puppeteers” that ursus hires and therefore plays young dea for a moment, but did you notice that she also takes control of young grinpayne’s breathing during “stars in the sky”? i think that’s pretty cool. one of the more interesting things i found out from my spreadsheet. the fact that i think this comes as a surprise to many of you i’m sure because i have never expressed a fascination with this show’s puppetry before.
