I don't usually talk about personal things on here but...I had the most delicious kona bowl today alongside a very nice lemon drop, I finished sewing a patch I embroidered onto one of my favorite cropped hoodies, and the new weed I got smells fruity in the best way.

Odin isn't an abusive parent so much as a guy given maybe one of the most difficult children to raise in the universe. As someone who has worked with incredibly complicated trickster children before...I have some level of empathy for Odin trying to wrangle his bloodthirsty and self-absorbed nightmare child away from a throne that he could give him under no circumstances.

I don't think he was winning any dad of the year awards, either, but I do think that he loved Loki and ultimately saw his own terrible nature in him and was afraid of what Loki might do with it. In the mythos, they're blood brothers and I think that they are in many ways two sides of the same coin, and because of that I like to approach Odin with more nuance than "bad dad."

I think this is actually my favorite piece in the entire fandom. I had it as my computer background for at least a month after I saw it, and whenever I think of "the end" I think of this. The idea that Mobius is the crux of Loki's choice while being forever separate from him is so perfectly replicated in this. The warm tones that convey a sense of loss, the silhouette of Mobius's back while we watch Loki looking him. It's so haunting, so tragic, so ephemeral. I don't often buy prints of things, but I would buy one of this.

I'm really enjoying Hivebent! It almost feels like a detour into a different story, like the Intermission - although the difference, of course, is that we know this one is plot-relevant.

The tone is quite different too. Things are kind of ominous - and not just because we know the troll session(s) are doomed. We’re slowly zooming into the culture of a pretty terrible world, and I’m sure there’s a lot more to see.

I've thought about this, but there are two main issues here:

I like to refer back to previous posts a lot when I’m liveblogging, both for further analysis and to illustrate points. Audio or video reactions are sort of hard to reference - I could do a transcript, but I don’t think it’d be very useful, because

I’m just not very good live, lmao. I’m a lot more comfortable in text, where I can format and edit posts to properly illustrate what I’m trying to say. Live, I tend to ramble - even my text posts have to be cut down a little from my initial reactions. You’re really not missing much; trust me on this.

If the flashes ever get really long - like, if we do a larger one of these, which I’m assuming is a walkaround - I’ll reconsider. I doubt it, though, I’d probably be more likely to split it into multiple posts. I’ll keep it under consideration, though!

Karkat and his friends and everyone they would ever meet thereafter would experience great misfortune on account of the curse unwittingly implemented through Sollux's esoteric MOBIUS DOUBLE REACHAROUND VIRUS.

I think either interpretation makes sense - this sentence is kind of ambiguous, now that I’m looking at it again. Although, if Sollux did know what the virus would do, why would he send it to his friend?

He knows Karkat is an amateur programmer, which is the worst kind of person to send this too. Karkat can compile and run this code, but he can’t understand it. What the hell, Captor?

I absolutely hate to admit this, but I watched Morbius with my friend a couple of weeks ago. The experience was indescribable, and it’s stuck in my mind ever since.

But my favorite moment will be when John looks directly out of the panel, meeting my eye, and speaks thusly:

Yeah, I try to attach any relevant context to the points I make, just to help me tie things together. As a bonus, it hopefully helps readers out, too!

Love it. I’d honestly have probably spent the rest of my life confusing the two, if I hadn’t started this blog. As I said, I have no earthy clue what Homestar Runner is about, only that it was a beacon of internet culture in the era before I came online.

I don’t doubt that puns were in play when Hussie was initially naming these Aspects - and those puns may well tie into their symbolism. It’s a pretty good way to get some inspiration when you’re naming things.

But I’m sure there’s more too it - simply because people love these Titles. The system is presumably pretty deep, and the pun is but a single faucet of each Title.

We’ve considered this interpretation before. It makes a lot of sense - and it gels with what we already know about Sburb - but I’m still on the fence about it, mostly because it raises the same question that the rest of Sburb’s predestination system does - namely, how it would account for alternate timelines.

There are ways to handle it - like, maybe each iteration of each person gets their own, personal index - and I do think we’re on the right track with predestination, but I still don’t think we have the whole picture here.

Everything, Everywhere was a lot of fun - and all the AU and alt-self stuff was very Homestuck.

Does anyone else wish we'd seen more of the other timelines, though? I know the movie was intentionally centered on one specific iteration of the family, but I'd love to have seen more of what went down in, for example, the Prime Timeline.

I honestly don’t think I can post these on the blog. Why does the the fact that they’re office clerks make it worse, somehow? The juxtaposition of the casual mood with what we’re seeing is generating a feeling that’s adjacent to, but somehow more harrowing than, the uncanny valley.

so because this show made me fucking insane and the last two weeks have been terrible rl-wise, I am writing a Loki fix-it fic for which I made a cringey 90s-throwback fic header because WHY NOT. Here's an excerpt:

When he starts work in Salcombe, he finds a small, beige one bedroom with a view of nothing but the house across the road. It's only a place to sleep, and he's out on the harbor nearly every day, so he tells himself it doesn't matter.

On his first day off, he takes a stroll around the town – more like a hike, because absolutely no part of it seems to be flat – and ends up in front of a smallish bungalow with a for sale sign and a garage down the end of a narrow driveway.

You could fit a jet ski in there, a voice whispers, and Mobius doesn't shudder but it's a close thing.

Mobius thinks, I drive them for a living now. I don't need –

You don't need it, the voice agrees. But you're allowed to want things, Mobius.

Mobius pinches the bridge of his nose, takes a deep, steadying breath.

Then he takes out his phone and dials the number on the sign.

More oc talk bc i cant stop. Have i mentioned where she's staying while on New Genesis? I dont remember, maybe i have? None of this is going into the fic so pretty much the only place it's gonna get talked about is here.

Her first couple nights she's in Metron's lab bc he's still monitoring her after resuscitation. But after visiting Highfather and getting called out for not being accommodating enough, Metron decides she probably shouldn't continue to sleep in the lab. So when they return, he shows her to a room adjacent to the lab and says she can stay there for the time being.

What he doesnt say is that its his living quarters (pictured in Death of the New Gods, see my header image for reference). She assumes its some spare or guest room and so accepts it with thanks and says how nice it is. Now Metron has a dilemma. He's given up his own bed, and he's not going to sleep in the lab (that would be demeaning). So he just.. decides not to sleep. He's gone without sleep before, or taken micronaps in the Mobius Chair. This will be fine.

But Heartbeat eventually puts two and two together and realizes he never goes to bed, and concludes correctly its bc she's been staying in his room.

Now let me share some of my thinking here. I dont want to put something fluffy and not really plot driven into the story this early, but my god does my predictable ass heart love a good only one bed trope. So this tidbit is really just here to entertain me. Consider it fan service, of which i am the only fan lol. But yeah actually writing this into the fic doesn't fit tonally and would disrupt the pacing. But would Metron do this? Yeah maybe. Like, its enough in character that its passable right? The rest though, im not sure. So thats another reason this isnt going into the fic officially. I dont want to dilute M's personality just for my own gain. So let's just call the rest of this scenario a headcanon.

Alright, so then Heartbeat's like this is stupid (and Metron takes offense to that lol), and she's like your bed is huge we can both sleep in it. He appreciates her pragmatism about it and accepts. But unlike the usual only one bed trope, nothing happens. They dont wake up in each others arms, they dont have a heartracing time trying to fall asleep. They just share a bed and its fine. So see? Im not going totally off the rails with it right? Plus, Metron figures itll be a good way to continue monitoring her in case anything happens related to her Source connection while shes unconscious. Always gotta be some angle with this guy.

Over time they have some various adventures together (the episodic parts of the story i keep mentioning), and after one such grueling mission they finally return and Heartbeat climbs into bed relieved saying, "I'm so glad to finally be home and in my own bed!" And Metron pauses at this. It was an offhand remark and she just gets comfy and goes to sleep without any other thought. But Metron decides not to go to bed, and instead goes back to the lab to sit in his chair and contemplate her words. She called it her bed, and she called this place home. If i were to include this in the fic, itd come before the time where she asks if hed visit her when she goes back to her real life.

Anyway, Metron isnt a sentimental person, but something about Heartbeat thinking of it as home has an impact on him that he can't quite unravel, so he decides that the discomfort it makes him feel must mean he doesn't like it and that he will correct her about her wording in the morning. But like, this dude has some real denial going on, and actually hes getting used to the idea that maybe she'll stay indefinitely! And in truth, he likes that she thinks of this place fondly. He likes that she considers his bed and his room to be hers. But bc these types of feelings are so goddamn foreign to him, he comes to the wrong conclusion about it.

Morning comes and he doesnt end up bringing up what she said. He wanted to, he intended to, but he cant. Instead he convinces himself to pay it no more mind, as it was just a turn of phrase and probably didnt mean anything anyway. But from then on, sometimes at night as he gets into bed next to her, he remembers what she said and it makes him feel A Way. And every time, he shoves it down and convinces himself its nothing.

First successful operation with custom 3D-printed titanium lower jaw

- By Netherlands Cancer Institute -

After four years of intensive research by the Netherlands Cancer Institute and the Dutch Mobius 3D Technology (M3DT), a titanium lower jaw was implanted for the first time in a head and neck cancer patient. The jaw was completely reconstructed based on the patient's 3D MRI & CT scans. The operation was successful.

Tumors in and around the lower jaw are often treated by removing part of the jaw bone (mandible). The mandible is reconstructed, if possible, with bone from elsewhere in the body (usually from the fibula, a small bone from the lower leg). The disadvantage of these reconstruction methods is that they are complex and require vascular anastomosis and also cause morbidity at the donor site. When using only metal plates, these can break or extrude through mucosa or skin in about 40% of the cases and the screws with which the plate is attached can come loose. This has dramatic consequences for the patient involved. Our new 3D printed mandible exactly fits the defect, has the shape and weight of the original mandible and is much stronger than the currently used plates.

Functions such as talking, drinking and eating are preserved

The implant is much stronger, partly because the forces are optimally distributed with an improved fastening technique. The implant also has a so-called 'mesh structure' on the inside. In this way, the implant retains its strength, while the prosthesis still feels light for the patient (comparable weight of bone is approximated). The implant can no longer break and the innovative orientation of the fixation screws ensures that the implant stays in place. Because the implant is custom-made, the jaw retains its fit and pressure on the overlying mucosa or skin is distributed more evenly. We hope this will diminish complications and improve functional and esthetic outcome. Even the tools the surgeon uses in the operation are patient-specific. The operation is also simpler and shorter.

Unique collaboration

The 3D lab and head and neck surgeons of the Netherlands Cancer Institute have worked for years on this groundbreaking innovation together with the Dutch company Mobius 3D Technologies (M3DT). This application is expected to be more widely applicable in 2023/2024. In the meantime, research is underway to further expand these techniques for implants elsewhere in the face and skull. Health Holland has made this development possible by granting an innovation grant.
