“You okay?”
Seokmin’s voice rang through y/n’s ears as she drove her car away from of Vernon’s white apartment building.
“Yeah, I think so. I’m just nervous for some reason like I can’t put into words why, but my gut is telling me something is weird.”
“Gut instincts are rarely ever wrong, but I’ll be by your side until you tell me you don’t need me to be. Okay?”
Pulling up into the parking lot of the glass framed building just on the edge of the city overlooking the water, y/n felt her nervous sweating start to begin, almost begging for air conditioning to surround her like a chilled hug.
“Want to hold my hand?”
“Yes please, they’re clammy I’m sorry.”
Gripping onto Vernon’s firm hand the three boys almost looking like her bodyguards bypassed the frenzy of people outside waiting to get their own peak at Minghaos installation themselves and walked through the door.
The room was filled with small tables, made by hand as a final touch to Minghaos work, adorned with dainty black table clothes and bottles of champagne placed in ice buckets.
The room was softly lit with yellow and white lighting making everyone have a glow that bounced off of them almost as if they weren’t real.
“Would you guys like a drink? We have champagne and two signature cocktails, one is a gin based drink called ‘delicate’ and the other is a whiskey ginger based drink called ‘storm cloud.”
The beautiful waitress signaled at y/n’s small group and pointed out the drinks on the table.
“I think two storm clouds and one delicate one for sure. Y/n? What would you like?”
You spun to look into Junhui’s big eyes, skating your head saying anything is alright with you so he made the conclusion to just order you the same as Seokmin to be safe.
“Thank you.”
Y/N placed a tip in the small bartenders jar and bid her a smile knowing she’ll be back for more later in the night
“Should we look around now and try to find Minghao? Or wait a bit?”
“Seok lets just wait here, it doesn’t seem like anyone is looking around yet, I'm trying to spy for Minnie and Mingyu.”
“And Mimi.”
“Yeah. Her too.”
“Guys, Vernon and I are going to go find Vernon’s friend Seungkwan. We'll be back in a second.”
“No problem.”
Y/n and Seokmin waved the cute couple off into the crowd.
“So y/n.”
“Seoky.”
“How are we feeling now? What was going on in the car?”
“I don’t know. I told you I’m alright.”
“Yeah but you don’t have to lie to me about that.”
“I promise you I would never lie to you, we basically took an unintentional blood oath as kids it stays”
“Okay. I love you, you know that right? But I rarely see you nervous like this so I can’t help but feel concerned.”
“Shut up. Yes I do and I love you too. I promise im alright.”
Averting her gaze back to the front door she watched as Minnie and Mingyu walked hand and hand, strutting past a very devious looking Mimi standing to the right, chit chatting with someone who was unrecognizable to y/n.
“They look good together.”
“Yeah, they do.”
“Do you think this fake dating is going to lead to them.. you know.”
“Well. If I can be honest with you y/n which I'm sure I can, I think it already has.”
“Yeah.”
“Are you alright with that?”
“I am actually. Any other time it would’ve killed me I think, but now.. I don’t know? I’m content. They make sense.”
“You shine too bright to have someone who shades you.”
“What does that even mean?”
“I don’t know actually, I think im drunk already.”
Y/n placed a small kiss on Seokmin’s temple laughing at his flushed cheeks before a familiar yet irritating voice cut through their ears.
“Y/n, Seokmin. Hi! You both look absolutely gorgeous. Mind if I sit?”
“Hi, Mimi. Sure.”
“How are you guys? This is so beautiful and we haven’t even seen his art yet, how crazy. He’s so talented.”
“Yeah it’s nice. You look great, I love your bag.”
“Thank you. You look nice. I see you didn’t go with the outfit you picked out the other day.”
“Hao told us to come in black so it just didn’t feel right.”
“Mimi, can I ask you how you know Minghao again?”
“Oh wow, well it’s a long story. We met a few years ago, I haven’t seen him in a while actually.”
“Ah, I see. Did you go to school together or?”
“Wow Seokmin, someone’s nosey.”
“Oh, sorry no, not nosy just curious is all. I didn’t know you knew him.”
“It’s okay. Our parents actually work together.”
“Nice.”
“Do you know if he arrived yet? I’m sure he’d love to see you in this gorgeous outfit. Leaving everything to the imagination, he likes conservative girls.”
“No we haven’t seen him, we're just waiting for Junhui actually.”
“Aw, cutie. His boyfriend seems so nice, I stalked them online today. Dumb and dumber vibes, you know? I’m more curious though did you see Minnie and Mingyu? How trashy getting with your friends hook up? Maybe she truly has it out for you. You’re too pretty to never be the one to end up with the guy. But actually you should just date Seokmin, everyone knows how much you guys love each other, it could work out well.”
“Oh I-
“Well, I have to get going and find my way to the girls room. I’ll see you later. Toodles.”
“Toodles”
Seokmin’s voice gained a depth that you haven't heard since someone pushed him in the fountain at your high school during senior prank week.
“What the fuck was that?”
“Fucking weird is what that was.”
Seokmin’s tone turned quickly into a quiet mocking of Mimi’s.
“Dumb and Dumber vibes.”
The two of them laughed as they shrugged off the interesting encounter with a former foe.
A bartender came over to the pair and handed them both a flute of champagne, as the rest of the patrons erupted into a roar when Minghao made his way into the building, Wonwoo walking beside him, smiling at his friend who was receiving praise from his acquaintances, hugging and high fiving him for his success, some chanting for him to make a speech.
Minghao walked straight past Mimi who was stealthily placed behind a tall gentleman the star of the night was not paying any attention to her whatsoever, almost like she was invisible. He strode over to the small table where y/n and Seokmin were awkwardly standing clutching the glass flutes, wrapping his arms around the both of them at the same time.
“You guys look.. amazing, thank you for coming.”
Minghao took a deep breath and looked up and down at the girl he had his arm around.
“Seriously. Thank you.”
“Our pleasure.”
“I’ll be back after I say some thank yous, maybe we can all walk through together okay?”
“Cool.”
The intimate crowd surrounded Minghao and Wonwoo handed him the matching glass of sparkling wine and he held it up as a small cheers.
Y/n peaked through the crowd and spotted Minnie and Mingyu to her right, still looking as loving as ever, Vernon and Jun to her left with an unrecognizable boy, who threw a small wave in her direction that she could only pass off as Seungkwan the only one she couldn’t place was Mimi.
“Hey guys. I just wanted to say thank you for coming tonight to the opening of my show. It’s been about a two year process to finally get through to this night. Many of you have been around much longer than that, so thank you for supporting me even when I was up late at night calling you upset about how it wasn’t going to work out. Vernon, Wonwoo, Seungkwan, and Mingyu, you guys truly were the only reason I didn’t jump ship many times from achieving this goal. It’s nice to see old faces like yours mixed into a group of new friends. So thank you, everyone, really. We’re going to take a peek through the gallery now, feel free to bring your drinks and grab some more along the way. And yeah, just enjoy yourselves. Thank you.”
The clapping dwindled down as the group followed Minghao through the journey he went through over the past two years starting from just a week ago up until the beginning.
Y/N stopped Seokmin to look at a very small white canvas decorated with various pastel water color paints mixed with an oil that looked almost the color of fresh blood.
“Do you know when I did that?”
“This?”
Minghaos voice spoke up behind them quietly, not wanting the room to echo as the group was admiring the work during their part one journey. Seokmin smiled down at his female friend and decided to take the opportunity to wander off on his own like any good wingman would do.
“Yeah.”
“Uh, no. Is this a trick question?”
“No it’s not, but it was that night I found you on your floor, looking at those pictures of you and your friends.”
“I- You got inspired by that? How?”
“Not sure I have time to explain it right now, but look at the title.”
‘About you’ was written on the plaque to the right side of the artwork.
“Wow. Thank you.”
“No thank you, I couldn’t have finished any of this without you actually.”
The art curator swooped Minghao away from your side moving the group into the second room, where the energy was colder, the lighting was turned down slightly, causing the fading colors the feel cold and dark and full of sadness especially coming from the front of the house that was bright and full of life.
y/n was on her own now, sitting near the back of the group losing her sight of all her comfort blankets that were her friends.
She spotted the red lip of Mimi directly across the room, also slipping to the back, trying to blend into the crowd as she looked around.
After spending a good ten minutes looking around the group was led through a vinyl curtain into a room full of dark red lights, the canvases on the wall now sunk to the floor of the room and scattered themselves alongside ripped and tattered papers on the concrete floors.
Something in y/n’s stomach had told her she should leave now, the growing anxiety of the light and coldness of the room, with near to no talking as the faint look of paint splatter sunk into her eyes on the walls almost like old blood.
She tried to turn around and make her exit through the same vinyl door when a hand came up to her wrist.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“Oh, Mimi hi, shit you scared me. I actually don’t feel well. I was going to dip out for a second.”
“Aw, come on y/n you can’t leave Minghao now. Not before the big finale.”
“Right..”
“Be right back, I’ll find Seokmin for you.”
“Thank you.”
All of the sudden as Mimi walked away a projector screen hit the wall, various old videos shot on a cam recorder.
Y/n had recognized the faint pink colored walls, her own childhood room.
“Let’s go fucking crazy.”
The words came from lips that were set behind the camera only y/n knowing it was the sound of Mimi’s voice as she was being filmed sitting on the bed of her old room, a bottle of cheap vodka in her hands.
“Okay, y/n I want you to see how pretty you are. We can send this to Joshua as a birthday gift. Should I turn the lights off more?”
She watched herself as she nodded awkwardly giggling on top of the zebra sheets, her hands pushing the red bottle of liquor to her lips, dribbling the liquid down her chin, the sight of tears welling up in her round eyes.
“Y/nnie don’t be sad, nobody will ever find out we accidentally hurt anyone, okay? My dad said she’ll be okay, just a broken leg. Just let loose.”
The lights flickered off the screen straight into her soul pushing down the memories of Mimi stealing her dads car while intoxicated to go and buy more alcohol before this very moment played out.
Suddenly she saw red. All of this had been a set up to embarrass her. Another nail in her coffin.
Her eyes filled with tears as she watched Mimi turn the people in the room to sit and stare at her face.  Watching the scene play on as Mimi told a very naive twenty year old girl to strip herself of her own clothes to impress the boy she liked and forget about the worst day of her life.
The people in the room sized her up and down, some turning back to the screen, others reading a small handout that was stuffed into a map of the museum while giggling at the journal entries she wrote about her once crush and the man she had fallen for now before she even made the connection of who he was to her all of those years ago.
Y/n’s legs felt like jello, yet something in her built up the strength to bolt through the vinyl curtain, her heels echoing through the white walls like bullets hitting a glass window.
She heard a voice cutting through the sound of her heels behind her calling out, but she decided she couldn’t stop to turn around and face anyone. It was a secret that couldn’t be shared, something that Mimi used as a final dagger to cut everyone out of her life the same way she cut the girl out of her own.
As she reached the fresh air of the front doors, the same cute bartender was sitting out on the curb smoking a cigarette looking concerned for y/n’s well being.
“Are you alright?”
“No.”
“Want a cigarette?”
“A ride maybe? If it’s not too much to ask. I dropped my phone somewhere, I have cash I can pay you. I just need to get out of here now.”
“I don’t need your money, it’s okay. Let me help you get a cab okay?”
“Thank you, really. What’s your name?”
“Rena. Yours?”
“Y/n”
Rena walked quickly with y/n to the outside cab pickup on the corner of the art museum, quickly hailing you a cab and shutting you tightly inside, leaving you with the last four cigarettes stuffed inside her metal case. As you drove off with a wink from her, meaning she had a feeling she’d see you again.
“55 Miles Avenue, please”
The driver sped through the night lights avoiding cars like it was a game. Pulling up outside the familiar front of Joshua’s building.
Basically throwing money at him and whispering a quick thank you, y/n ran her way up to his elevator, finally reaching his floor, and knocking heavily on the door.
In the few seconds he took to come unlock his apartment to her, she realized how desperate and deschevled she must look.
“Y/n? It’s still early, are you okay?”
“No.”
“Come in, come in.”
Her tears suddenly grew stronger, sinking down to his wooden floor, feeling his hands grab her shoulders and sink down with her.
“What happened?”
Words couldn’t form in her mouth correctly, she managed to spill a couple of sentences that made a way to fill him in.
“Fuck. Y/n come on, let’s get you a shower and some fresh clothes.”
Joshua’s arms picked the girl off the floor and led her into his black marble bathroom, which suddenly felt like an oasis to her.
The water ran hot, scorching her body of the sins and embarrassment she had just gone through, spending more time scrubbing away at her skin and hair, feeling like it would help if she rubbed her skin nearly raw.
Stepping out of the shower she grabbed the gray hoodie and soft sweatpants Joshua had laid out for her, taking her time to step into her clothes and walk out into her reality.
“I ordered you some food. Come on.”
As she finished eating in her daze, the boy to her left carefully rolled the thin paper over the green flower and lit the end, handing her a relief from her stress.
“Thank you.”
“Want to talk about it?”
“Not right now.”
“Okay. But im sorry I made you befriend her again, I should’ve known better y/n. I really thought she had changed.”
“Stop. Please, I really don’t want to talk about her right now.”
“Okay, just one last thing. Why do you think she did it?”
“I honestly have no idea.”
“But do you think Minghao had something to do with it I mean she basically ruined his whole night just for her own revenge. Seems weird that he-“
“Josh.”
“Okay. okay.”
Joshua and y/n sat in the haze of their shared joint, not talking until she finally had enough of a high to fall asleep next to him on the couch and chose to deal with her problems the next day.

Pretty Nose : A Fierce and Uncompromising Woman War Chief You Should Know
Pretty Nose (c. 1851 – after 1952) was an Arapaho woman, and according to her grandson, was a war chief who participated in the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876.In some sources, Pretty Nose is called Cheyenne, although she was identified as Arapaho on the basis of her red, black and white beaded cuffs. The two tribes were allies at the Battle of the Little Bighorn and are still officially grouped together as the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes.
On June 25, 1876, a battalion of the 7th Cavalry, led by George Armstrong Custer, was wiped out by an overwhelming force of Lakota, Dakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho.
There are many stories that come from this most famous battle of the Indian Wars. However, the most overlooked account is of the women warriors who fought alongside their male counterparts.
Minnie Hollow Wood, Moving Robe Woman, Pretty Nose (pictured), One-Who-Walks-With-The-Stars, and Buffalo Calf Road Woman were among the more notable female fighters.
Pretty Nose fought with the Cheyenne/Arapaho detachment.
One-Who-Walks-With-The-Stars (Lakota) killed two soldiers trying to flee the fight.
Minnie Hollow Wood earned a Lakota war-bonnet for her participation, a rare honor.
Lakota Moving Robe Woman fought to avenge the death of her brother.
And Cheyenne Buffalo Calf Road Woman holds the distinction of being the warrior who knocked Custer off his horse, hastening the demise of the over-confident Lt. Colonel.
Pretty Nose's grandson, Mark Soldier Wolf, became an Arapaho tribal elder who served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. She witnessed his return to the Wind River Indian Reservation in 1952, at the age of 101.

Eddie munson working at a Waffle House is so....*chef's kiss* Reader, who is black, starts as a server because they're looking to just scrap by while in college.
Eddie is worried at first. He knows the patrons that walk through the door aren't always the nicest. A lot of drunk people. Sometimes people are just looking for a fight. He makes it his mental mission to keep an eye out for you. You're sweet. A lot of the guys come in and flirt with you.
You almost always laugh it off. It makes Eddie feel like it's going to make the wrong impression.
That is, until one guy comes in belligerently drunk. He's shouting, slurring his words--he's overall a messy drunk and Eddie, who'd been taking a smoke break immediately snuffs it out.
The guy slumps into the booth and you walk over, menus in hand. You stay behind the counter, like you're supposed to, you hand the guy the menu. But he grins up at you and reaches right for your chest.
Before Eddie can cross the room, you've decked the asshole square in the nose. Eddie freezes for a moment, eyes widen and then as the guy starts to push up from the table, Eddie kicks back into gear. The rest of the guys in the kitchen come rushing out too. It's the entire Waffle House against this guy. He doesn't even get fully up but you hit him again.
It's clear that you're pissed. Your eyes are unfocused and you're breathing hard. So Eddie hauls the guy out. It's not easy--he's almost twice the size of Eddie, but the two solid punches you've landed plus his own drunkness help. So Eddie all but throws the guy onto the curb and then comes back inside to see another linecook wrapping your knuckles. Gingerly he cuts in, adjusting the wrap a little.
"You okay?" Eddie asks.
"I should've killed him," you mutter.
"Still got time," he laughs. "Anything hurt?" He's trying to keep is snug enough but not cutting off circulation.
"If it's not broken, it's bruised like a bitch."
Eddie gets the wrap finished, sliding his fingers over your knuckles and palm then you your fingers. "Oh," he tsks, taking in the sight of two of your nails that broke. Nothing that damaged your natural nail underneath. He's seen that happen a few time to the other girls.
"I have an appointment Saturday," you shrug it off.
"Can I pick the color?" he teases.
"What do you know about that?" you gape.
Eddie winks when you finally settle your gaze on him. "I've been around the block a time or two. But you're blue right now. I think red would be nice."
"Red and black."
"Just in time for Halloween," he teases.
When you come into work on Sunday, he absolutely hollers for you to come into the kitchen. You've barely had time to get your apron on. He checks out your nails with a whistle. "Bet they'd look better digging into my back don't you think?"
"If we survive this shift, we'll have to see about that."
Eddie who is not religious signs the cross over his chest. "May God be with us. Because you're going to need him tonight, honey."

OH MY GOD ILYSM 😍 this is amazing and exactly what we need 🙌🏽
Exactly how I see Waffle House!eddie in my mind. He’s always getting into it Janice who’s also his neighbor. Janice isn’t a Karen but she stays on Eddie’s ass because he’s a menace and gets on her nerves
Janice gives waffle house wendy vibes! Eddie’s seen her jacket sleeve catch fire and she out it out with her hand!
lead waitress Miss Minnie brought him into the Waffle House family. She’s loved by everyone in Hawkins and she’s the mother, therapist, doctor, lawyer, teacher, pastor, and then some all wrapped in one body. People go to her for everything and she’s always helping even when people don’t deserve her help.
You’re the sweetest girl he’s ever seen walk into this establishment and he instantly has a crush on you the new waitress. I can see jeff also working here, maybe miss Minnie is his auntie! And they all tease him for having a crush on you! “You got it bad white boy” Jeff laughs.
You and Eddie fuck behind the building while on breaks 😭 I think Janice catches y’all one time and this is probably how she starts calling you titmouse! She didn’t learn your name anyway because no other waitress has stuck around other than the ones they already have so she knows you’ll quit eventually so why learn your name 😭
Y’all both work the night shift on stuardays so y’all literally see everybody in Hawkins stop by. The basketball team comes by after their big win and Jason starts shit because his waffles are cold. So Eddie comes out because nobody is gonna talk to miss Minnie like that! And Eddie and Jason start fighting and the players with girlfriends get involved so now here you are with the other Waffle House girls throwing waffle batter and plates😭
And if it’s modern, in the corner booth robin takes out her phone to record everything! “Dingus your hair is in the way move! This is my Scorsese moment”
And the entire kitchen staff is yelling “go white boy go white boy go!” As he’s whoppin Jason’s ass. Just like that cosplay video 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
😭😭😭😭 now I’ve never been to a Waffle House because we don’t have that out here BUT I have been to a red lobster on easter and ihop at 1 am and it’s basically Waffle House adjacent 😭 I love my people

"best friend" | kim seungmin
genre: arranged marriage au, angst + a dash of fluff, hurt/comfort
warning(s): mention of death, grief
word count: 698
...
Something about the downpour further deepens the grief you’ve been holding in your heart. After your nana passed away, the grief kept on growing and growing like a vicious avalanche with each passing day.The casket had been lowered and it was your turn to drop a white rose on it. It was her favorite. You remember all those times she would trim away the thorns and pluck out the pointy leaves just so she can tuck it in behind your ear. Oh how cruel it is how beautiful times disappear.
Your legs felt heavy, almost as if they were hesitating for you to say a one last goodbye to your grandmother. But you had to stay strong. You have to do it for nana to honor her.
It was brief yet such a small moment seemed so long. Your white rose drops on top of the other white roses. As you were observing it, it seemed like it was falling in slow motion. Others went back to the crowd but you were stunned at your place. You can’t help but start crying in the rain. Tears were commingling along with rain droplets on your face. Your black dress was starting to soak. The wail you let out was just heartbreaking. Everyone knew how you were very close to your grandmother.
The rain somehow stopped pouring on you. A familiar presence next to you holds an umbrella, protecting both of you from the downpour. You looked to see who it was and it was your husband.
Seungmin’s heart broke, seeing how devastated you looked. He took out a handkerchief in his pocket and he gently wiped away your tears and the rain off your face. He takes your hand, and guides you away from the people.
He lets you wail. He lets you cry on his shoulders. He lets you let out the pain and heartache you’ve been feeling. Being your husband and close confidant, he never judges you for whatever it is that you feel. That’s something you were always grateful for from him.
Seungmin lets you take your time. You both left early and now you have reached your home.
“I think you should take a sh—”
And suddenly, you gave him the biggest hug yet. “Thank you Min. I really can’t thank you enough for today.”
He chuckles a little. “Don’t worry about it. We’re a team, remember?”
You nod, feeling warm inside. Not just because of your hidden feelings for him but just how much he cares for you. You couldn’t imagine being married to anyone else despite his heart belonging to someone else.
“You know what, instead of a shower, I’m just gonna prepare you a hot bath instead. Would that be alright?”
“Yes of course. Thank you best friend.”
“Best friend? That’s new. I sure hope Hyunjin is not gonna kill me when he finds out you have a new best friend,” he jokes.
Seungmin noticed you haven’t had a good laugh for a while until this moment. Your tummy was aching and you were letting out tears of joy rather than tears of grief. He always finds a way to cheer you up in the simplest things. “There’s nothing wrong with having two best friends, Minnie.”
He laughs along, holding your hands to warm them up. “Okay okay. Now let me get your bath ready. I’ll be back in a bit. Alright?”
“Alright.”
“And Y/N.”
“Hmm?”
“I’m here for you okay. You’re not alone.”
Seungmin then heads upstairs to the master bathroom. You’re thankful to have such a caring husband even if he wasn’t in love with you. Even if he was already happy and in love with someone else. It’s alright.
No matter how much you push away your feelings for him, you can’t help but admit that you are deeply smitten by him. Not wanting to jeopardize your arrangement, you’d rather swallow your pride and feelings deep inside the thoughts that Seungmin won’t be able to find and explore.
It’s alright. It’s okay. What matters to you is keeping your bond with him for as long as you can. Even if it may be selfish on your part.
...
A/N: Hello! Man I wasn't able to get some stuff out over break and now it's back to school. Hopefully can still post some stories despite my busy schedule. There is a high likeliness that this drabble will be turned into a full fic :D

Marauders Midnights, Log 1: The Potters
Sirius never wearing 'black' on his jerseys in quidditch because he didn't want any of his wins to be associated with them, that he was doing it for the blacks.
Sirius stealing James' jerseys throughout their quidditch games so that they'd both fly with the Potter name.
Seeker!sirius facing off Regulus who still bears the Black name on his back, weighing him down.
Sirius flying lighter and faster in front of Regulus so he's stuck staring at 'Potter' on his brother's back instead of their own last name.
Remus wearing potter on his back, but for Sirius too and not James
Remus and Lily laughing over their boys as 'Potter' is on their backs.
Peter, who always wore Potter on his back from the very second James got onto the team in second year, feeling James slipping away from him as more adore James.
Sirius being known as 'Potter' throughout his classes, not responding to 'Mr. Black' but only "Mr. Potter".
Sirius and James making twin cameos, "did you mean me or him?", in all of their classes, as Minnie slowly loses her sanity.
the Marauders + Valkyries being referred to as the potter clan/family (Regulus likes to think himself apart of this family, James assures him he is even as they are far apart)
Older Gryffindors saying 'here comes potter' when any of them come through the portrait door.
Marlene boasting that she was James' first recruit, 'always allowed there i was', 'i was the original', 'i came for Jamie stayed for his mum'.
Peter wishing he was loud enough to shout down hallways that actually he was the first potter, married and sworn in, with paper rings of their childhood.
James being flustered anytime anyone refers to themselves with his last name, fondness for his friends flowing through, the love that he carries in his heart not feeling like a burden anymore.
James noticing peter shy away from using Potter, even though he remembers a smaller peter saying his initials stood for "Peter Potter" not Peter Pettigrew.
James knowing the longing peter feels coursing through as everyone laughs over their strong bond.
James thinking that his heart is still a burden.
Peter rectifying this immediately, becoming louder by the nanosecond that he's a Potter.
Sirius saying that he was James' brother first jokingly.

James thinking his heart is definitely a good thing.
They're all potters. In a way, it's a joining name, a unifying mark, and they chose their glue for their name. Even after Hogwarts, Sirius is still a potter, until he becomes a Lupin.
Yet he never does get to take that step. SIRIUS BLACK -the first time he's heard Black with his name in forever- is printed black and white on newspapers, killer of James and Lily Potter, it writes. Black killed the potters. Sirius believes that too. he killed the potter within him when he let his James and Lily die.

For scientific research, would any of the three of you be able to kill Shakespeare's Macbeth? With the whole "no man of woman born" prophecy thing. Doesn't matter if you would, just if you feasibly could under those criteria.

Book Review
The Last Days of Louisiana Red by Ishmael Reed
There is a chapter in Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra portraying a tightrope walker. The tightrope walk is an attempt the man makes to leave the commonplace behind, to explore new possibilities, to see new lands, to expand the parameters of life, to move on to something better...a higher state of existence. However, below the tightrope is the audience, made up of the masses of the narrow-minded, the simple folk, the ordinary citizens, the littlepeople, the flies of the marketplace as Nietzsche calls them. They aspire towards nothing but mediocrity and the maintenance of the status quo. These people resent the tightrope walker’s attempt at finding a new way of life, so halfway through the stunt, they pull him down from the rope so that he dies in the fall.
Ishmael Reed, in his novel The Last Days of Louisiana Red, transplants this dilemma to a different context. He applies it to the African-American community in Oakland during the 1970s where the politics of the New Left, Black Power, and the feminist movement are in full swing. I don’t know if Reed consciously borrowed the allegory of the tightrope walker from Nietzsche or not (probably not), but it does serve as a legitimate point of comparison. Ed Yellings, the businessman who starts the Gumbo Works business, can easily replace the tightrope walker; Ed Yellings gets murdered early in the book, but as it is, he stands in for the upwardly mobile element of the African-American community in the post Civil Rights Movement era. He represents the builders and founders of an African-American economic class that is self-deterministic and independent of white America. And s the envious mediocrities of Nietzsche’s town, the ones who kill the tightrope walker, correspond to the Moochers, Reed’s portrayal of the radicals and activists, some of which come from privileged backgrounds, who refuse to build a better society and instead insist on simultaneously destroying the society that exists while demanding that everything be given to them because they are an oppressed minority. This conflict might sound shocking to younger readers who weren’t alive in the 1970s, especially considering it is being articulated by Ishmael Reed, an African-American author, but he is addressing a real social problem with detrimental consequences in the real world.
Ed Yellings’ Gumbo Works is an instant success. The gumbo is sold in a restaurant and manufactured in a factory but little is said about these establishments. This lack of detail is, I think, one of the many flaws in the novel. The business is actually a front for a secret voodoo operation which involves the defeat of Louisiana Red who is not actually a character but more like a spirit of sorts that brings negative energy into the African-American community. Ed Yellings becomes a millionaire and raises a family of four children in a mansion. Wolf grows up to be a business man, following in his father’s footsteps in preparation to take over the company. Street is a Black Power-type radical and criminal who is obviously a caricature of Eldridge Cleaver. The passage about Street committing murder then fleeing to Algeria where he is given a villa free of charge by the government is lifted directly from that Black Panther Party leader’s life. Sister barely figures into the story but probably represents the Back to Africa ideal of the 1970s since her clothes are African-inspired and she associates with a Nigerian friend. Minnie is the one who plays the most prominent role in the story. Based on Cab Calloway’s classic jive anthem “Minnie the Moocher”, she is a prominent member of the Moochers, but she falls out of favor with them because she shows up at rallies to give speeches about ontology and epistemology and other pseudo-intellectual crap that puts people to sleep. She represents the feminist element of the radical Left and insists she is entitled to take over Gumbo Works even though she has no knowledge of business. The inclusion of all these representatives in one family is of symbolic importance. Not only do African-American people bond by colloquially referring to each other as Sister and Brother, but but the idea of the community as an extension of the family makes Reed’s whole point more clear. He is depicting the African-American community as a family which is supposed to be closely knit and supportive of each other despite their individual differences yet at the same time he is showing how this family is one that is dysfunctional.
Ed Yellings gets assassinated, his factory gets burned down, and the two brothers shoot each other while Minnie insists that she inherit everything her father left behind. This is not the way families are supposed to work.
So far it sounds like a lot of interesting and legitimate ideas are introduced into the story. And it is true, a lot of them are interesting and legitimate and there is an abundance of them. A lot of them barely go anywhere after being introduced though. Sister is the easiest example of this as she only makes two brief appearances and doesn’t contribute in any significant way to anything that happens. Street and Wolf are not developed much more as characters either. Street’s only purpose in the book seems to be for the sake of mocking Eldridge Cleaver without mentioning him by name. Some of the supporting characters actually do a lot more than the main members of the family. Nanny, a woman from Louisiana, gets hired to raise the family but her ulterior motive is to groom Minnie for the sake of disrupting Gumbo Works. Nanny is a representation of the old, southern African-American way of life that the urban professional class wants to leave behind. She is actually a practitioner of voodoo and intends to spread the chaos of Louisiana Red through the Oakland Black community.
Nanny’s opposition is Papa LaBas, a houngan who is brought in to replace Ed Yellings as head of the Gumbo Works corporation. The two are engaged in a magical combat that is an updated version of the voodoo war between Doc John and Marie Laveau. The history and folklore surrounding those two legendary figures from New Orleans is sufficiently explained in one chapter. You might remember Papa LaBas as a catalyst of the action in Ishmael Reed’s previous, and far superior novel, Mumbo Jumbo. Aside from running the company, his most memorable part is when he gives Minnie a marsh and misogynistic lecture about how Black women should stay in their traditional places. His twisted logic is that women are already powerful because they provide men with sex, something which makes men obedient and submissive. I suppose that line of reasoning works if you are the type of sex-obsessed man who thinks with the wrong head, but for those of us with a more diverse range of interests, it comes off as a rather infantile view of sexuality and power.
The author’s misogyny is extreme, even by 1970s standards yet it is totally in line with what a lot of African-American men were thinking at that time. Black hyper-masculinity and sexual potency were big components of the Black Power movement and those were the progressives of their time. Read up on the Black Panther’s approach to women and sexuality if you don’t believe me. One Black Panther, I forget who, famously said, “The only place for Black women in the Revolution is on their backs.” The more conservative members of the Black community then, as represented in this story, were even more traditional and domineering in their approach to sex and gender politics.
By far, the most interesting characters are Kingfish and Elder, representatives of the lumpenproletariate who Reed despises. These two clownish characters refuse to work and survive by collecting welfare and committing petty crimes like stealing, burglary, scamming, and begging. They are obviously capable of being useful but refuse to indulge in thing like employment, instead paying for beer and weed by swiping tips off the tables in restaurants. “Owning a business is something that Black people don’t do,” says one of them. This is the type of attitude Ishmael Reed is addressing in this novel in an attempt at correcting it for the sake of his people. Kingfish and Elder stand out here because they are the most direct and clear criticism offered up by Reed and they work well as comic relief.
The least successful character is Chorus, a man who acts as the chorus of the story, explaining what is happening and what is yet to come. He provides counter-narratives about Isis and Osiris, the Egyptian deities, and Antigone, the Greek daughter of Oedipus. These plots correspond to what is happening with Minnie, Ed Yellings, and Papa LaBas. But the stories are confusing and poorly narrated. The purpose of a dramatic chorus is to clarify a story, but in this case Chorus muddles the narrative to the point where skipping these chapters might actually make the book easier to read.
I am wondering if this novel was originally intended to be a play written for theatrical production. The inclusion of Chorus, as well as a scene in a theater where Minnie heckles the performers (sound familiar Leftist millennial students at Berkeley?) are obvious references to the theater. But the whole story is told through dialogue the way a stage performance would be. Even the assassination, the shootings, and the fire at the factory are explained through conversation rather than shown as part of the narrative. This might have been conceived of as a play but written as a novel for some reason I can’t comprehend.
The aforementioned lack of detail is a real weakness. As previously mentioned, the violence and the fire are relayed to the audience by speech. There is also no description of the restaurant or the factory. Even worse, for a book about voodoo, it is disappointing that the actual rites and ceremonies are not described. Rather than having these things talked about in casual conversation, actually showing them visually bulks up the writing, fills in the blank spaces, and makes the story more complete. It allows the audience to experience these events emotionally and creates depth by drawing us into the environment and the action. If the characters only talk about these things than we just move on to the next page without really connecting with them in our imagination.
The other big problem is that Reed introduces too many ideas but never follows through on them. The different characters all represent different aspects of the African-American community but they are little more than hollow receptacles of ideas. What they symbolize is obvious but beyond the symbolism they have no life of their own. With such underdeveloped characters and themes, it is hard to tell if Ishmael Reed is being fair in his critique or not. You can find plenty of things to criticize in the Black bourgeoisie, the Back to Africa ideal, the gangster, the Black Power movement, and the feminists but there are a lot of things those people got right too. By not addressing all sides of these issues, the author does a disservice to his claims by making his criticism look shallow, uninformed, and rudimentary.
The Last Days of Louisiana Red is the follow up novel to Ishmael Reed’s most celebrated work Mumbo Jumbo, a novel that deserves all the praise it gets. The main idea of that book is that if white people stand back and give African-American people enough space then their culture will grow and thrive. I think the main idea of The Last Days of Louisiana Red is that, now that Black people have sufficient space to grow and thrive, they have to deal with some problems internal to the Black community. Notice how prominent a role the white people play in Mumbo Jumbo and how marginal the white people are in Louisiana Red. Reed has progressed to a new set of parameters here. But this latter novel is less successful because he introduces too much information into those parameters. It is like a chef making a pot of gumbo and using every ingredient he finds in the kitchen so that no individual flavor stands out and whatever is there in the pot doesn’t blend in with everything else. Reed could have left a lot of the content out to give more room for the important ideas to take hold or he could have expanded the novel to three times its length to fully develop everything he introduces. Otherwise, he does raise a legitimate issue, that of some members of the African-American community working against its greater interests. even if Some of his criticisms, particularly of feminism, are not entirely justified. I like to think that Reed is too good an author to write this kind of book since he certainly showed what he is capable of in Mumbo Jumbo, but in comparison this just ends up being another novel that doesn’t live up to its potential.

Remus and the rest of the marauders find a pack of wolves living at Hogwarts
The Marauders known as Prongs or James potter, Padfoot or Sirius Black, and 'Wormtail' or Peter Pettiedrew knew that Moony or Remus Lupin was a werewolf, they became an Angimus to help him on full moons. They usually are in the shrieking shack but tonight moony got out. A stag, a grim dog and a rat followed him throughout the forest. He stopped, Moony was looking at something. Instead of two legs he started to walk on four, slowly. The boys were confused before the saw a pelt of white and grey. Another Wolf. Its amber eyes glowing along with it's fur in the moonlight. It howled and 5 more wolves raised. Thinking their friend was going to get attacked, the grim came out and started to growl and the stag stood next to the werewolf in a protective stance. The white wolf in charge howled again and the 6 wolves ran away father into the forbidden Forest.
~~~~~~~
Remus groaned when he woke up. Clothes were thrown at him, waking him up instantly. He looked around and found his best mates in her human forms. "Morning moony." James said, smiling. Remus put in the clothes quickly. "What time is it?" "Around 8-ish. And man did we have a run in." Sirius said, but Remus thought the worse. "Did moony hurt you guys?!" "No! no no no no no no no no no no." They said quickly. "Remus your not the only wolf out here!" Peter said. Remus looked at him confused. He thought about last night and found out he remembers wolf-ish figures. "Remus buddy are you okay?" Sirius asked, noticing his confused thinking face. "I think I remember something from last night. It's not clear but I saw a white wolf." Remus muttered out load. The other three were shocked Remus couldn't remember anything about what happened on full moons. "Come on we need to get back before minny freaks out." Sirius said. The four men walked back from the woods and back to the halls of Hogwarts.
Walking in the halls, Remus senses were still on high alert. The rest of his friends could tell he needed to be alone so he was walking around alone. He was going to ask professor Dumbeldore if there were other wolves at Hogwarts. He was pulled into a dark classroom. "Hey! Let go!" He yelled and tried to get free. "Lumos." A muscular voice said. The room lit up and Remus saw 6 people. Four were girls and two were guys. Two of the girls were in Ravenclaw, another girl and one of the guys were in Hufflepuff, the last girl was in Gryffindor and the last guy were in Slytherin. "Who are you?" He asked trying to get out of the Ravenclaw girl's grip. For someone a good inch smaller then him, she sure was strong. "We know your a wolf." The Gryffindor guy said. Remus froze, and started panicking. How did they find out?! Would they rat him out to the ministry and have him killed?! "Great job idiot you made him worry." The Gryffindor girl said. "Don't worry. We are werewolves too." The Hufflepuff girl stated with a soft smile. "W-what?" Remus asked. The Ravenclaw that was holding him let go. "I'm Jennifer" the Ravenclaw girl said, the one that wasn't holding him. "That's Crystal and Paul" Jennifer said pointing to the Hufflepuffs. "Jeremy" the Slytherin guy. "and Stephanie" they Gryffindor girl. Remus stared at the last girl. "This is our alpha, Valerie."
And this is how Remus found his pack.
Chapter 1 - Caught in a Mouse Trap
Location: Mickey Mouse's House - Somewhere in Danger Zone City(?)
Date: ??/??/????
Time: ??:?? ??
No POV
After Mickey Mouse have taken the young toon boy to his own home as his own, he took him into the guest room and tucked him in bed before placing a kiss on his forehead and leaving the room to head to bed himself, even though that he had a hard time getting a good night sleep.
The cartoon mouse had never felt so much happiness ever since he bumped into Y/n on the streets and his cute expression on his face and how he has the same kind of ears he has. He still remembered about his tragic backstory when his neglectful parents left him at the orphanage that made his life a living hell with the other orphaned kids and the caretakers treated him horribly and he promised to take good care of him for now on till the end of time.
He has been dealing with his own problems when he found out that his beloved sweetheart was hanging out his rival, Mortimer Mouse that broke his own heart that drove him to the path of committing suicide by injecting a dangerous and deadly drug into his bloodstream while walking down the darks streets to await his own death.
He would have died if not for a young rapper named Boyfriend (W.I) that made an attempt to stop killing him over a broken heart and just move on with his life, which somehow worked when Minnie showed up before Mickey was about to attack Boyfriend after their rap battle as she told both of them that Minnie never loved Mortimer and it was all just a big misunderstanding.
Mickey was glad that Minnie didn't cheat on him with Mortimer and thanks Boyfriend for helping him out, but the happy moments did not last long as the Devil himself known as Satan refused to let Mickey have a happy ending and decided to torture him over and over again, causing him to create many, many reincarnated versions of himself until he was released from his chains and was forced to be in a world, where no living soul is there to keep him company.
That is until Y/n showed up and Mickey will not let anyone, or anything happen to his own child or else he will show no mercy to anyone who dares to take him away or harm him and send them all the way down to the fires of hell.
When he wakes up, he is going to treat his new adopted son a tasty breakfast to welcome him to the family as he closed his eyes and went into a peaceful slumber, hoping that Y/n will have some sweet dreams tonight.
However, on this night, Y/n is gonna have a nightmare that will change his life forever, or in the case, he will never go to sleep ever again as the young toon boy snuggled against the soft pillows on his own bed, dreaming about having a lovely picnic on a beautiful day with Mickey and Minnie Mouse with the birds chirping, the bees buzzing and the flowers around them are in full bloom.
Everything seemed happy at first when Y/n smiled happily with Mickey and Minnie, but then something strange began to happen as everything around him turned his dream into a nightmare with the birds and animals dead, the flowers wilted and the whole world around him went from full color to black and white. But the most terrifying thing he saw was when he saw Mickey and Minnie went from happy to a darker moment as Minnie shown to be very sad and crying tears of sadness while Mickey is shown to be smiling in an unhinged grin on his face and his eyes are ghostly white as he attempted to grab the boy with a syringe in his hand.
Y/n made an attempt to run away from Mickey, but Mickey started chasing after him, which led to them in the same abandoned town that was looping over and over as Y/n is being chased by one of his favorite cartoon idols with Mickey laughing like a lunatic as he continues to chase him down with the syringe in his hands.
But then suddenly, as Y/n continued running for his life from the deranged Mickey Mouse, he soon found himself in the dark void as he slowed down to catch his breath and Mickey was nowhere to be found.
Y/n then started walking around in the void to find somebody that can help to know what's going on, not knowing that things are about to go from bad to worse when he spotted someone in the distance as he walked closer to find a weak and fragile old man with goat horns that seems to be freezing death and is using an old cloak to keep himself warm.
Y/n then walked up to the man and starts to ask him what's going on here, not realizing of who he is really talking to.
Y/n: Excuse me, sir? Are you okay? Can you tell me what's going on here?
The old man looked up to Y/n with a tired look in his eyes as he spoke back to him with all the strength he had to speak to the boy.
???: Young boy...didn't your own parents ever tell you, never to talk to strangers.
Y/n: My parents left me and never returned. They never loved me because of who I am.
The old man was surprised to hear that from Y/n as he was intrigued by Y/n's appearance that reminded him of a very familair mouse toon that he met a long time ago.
???: I see.... you're not a normal human child, are you?
Y/n: Nope. I'm actually half human and half toon and no one seems to like me because of my toon-like appearance.
???: I can tell...would you care to sing a little tune for me...it's been a while since I heard someone sing with such a beautiful voice.
Y/n: Sure...I guess so....I have been practicing ever since I was in that orphanage that I ran away from, but I'll do my best, sir.
???: Excellent....
So then, Y/n accepted the old man's offer to sing a tune for him, unaware of what the strange old man is about to do to this boy as he seems to be interested in learning more about this boy as Y/n begins to sing a lovely to him.
Song Plays - Versiculus Iratus - Vs. Satan - Wednesday's Infedility - Part 2 - FNF Mod
As Y/n begins to sing with the old man singing along with him, the toon boy soon began to feel like something's not right as the old man began to laugh evilly and Y/n soon found himself chained up tight and the old man revealed himself to be none other than the devil himself as he tricked the boy into thinking that he was a weak, fragile old man and the boy was forced to sing with him while his body began to change form overtime during the song.
He began changing into many different versions of himself such as him being an art sculpture, a puppet, a space man from another world, etc. and the cycle kept continuing by the end of the song, where Y/n is dealing with a lot of pain while he is sleeping in bed inside Mickey's house.
But then, just as Satan was about to take the boy's soul, Y/n suddenly disappeared from the dream world by some sort of cosmic energy, taking the boy away from the Devil, which got him angry that he lost the boy and almost got his soul.
Satan: Damn it! I almost had him!
???: Up to your old tricks again, Satan.
Satan looked to see Darku coming out from the darkness, all dress up in casual clothing and a hoodie to hide his true form as his face is nothing but pure dark shadows. Darku was known to be the Ruler of his own shadowy realms of all things evil and chaos known as The Dark Zone and he's not much like Satan as he is a much more serious version of the devil and doesn't try to take innocent people, even young children like Y/n for his own amusement.
Satan: What are you doing here, Darku?
Darku: Oh nothing, really? I was just minding my own business until I saw you tormenting that poor boy and you were about to take his own soul. So, my brother, Creation took the liberty of saving the boy and take him somewhere where you won't harm him again. Well, at least for now.
Satan: Why would you and your brother do something like that?
Darku: It's our job to keep the balance of both good and evil and you just keep taking innocent souls here just for your own amusement. You should know better than to do to something like Y/n, who has not committed any act of sin that would bring down here when death has arrived at his doorstep.
Satan: I can do whatever I want because this is my domain, I make the rules here and that boy soul belongs to me!
Darku: You may rule your own world, Satan, but that does not excuse you for taking another innocent soul like you did to Mickey and a young man named Boyfriend.
Satan: Grr...Fine! You and your brother may have saved his life, but I'm still coming after his soul, even if I have to send my minions to go after him.
Darku: True, but don't get too cocky, Satan, because if you keep up this charade, me and my brother will have no choice to but to punish you and your minions by sealing up the gateway to your realm and free all of the innocent souls that you captured for 500 years.
Satan: No! I will not spend another 500 years being trapped here without grabbing another soul. I can't wait for someone to die and be brought here to hell. It's just so boring!
Darku: Well, get used to it, Satan. I will not tolerate this kind of nonsense from you. If me and my brother, catch you in the act of harming the boy again, we have no choice but to seal the gateway to Hell for another 500 years. The only souls you'll be getting will be the people who are sinful to the great Lord himself. This is your last warning, do you understand? I'll be watching you.
With that, Darku then vanished into thin air, leaving Satan alone in the pitch-black darkness as he is furious that Darku and Creation stopped him from getting Y/n's soul. They may have saved his life from getting his soul from the Devil, but he's not gonna be stopped that easily as he plans to send out his best minions to capture Y/n to get his soul.
So, with that, the Nightmare has truly begun for the toon boy...
End of Chapter 1
To be Continued in Chapter 2
Note: To those who are reading this chapter, sorry if this chapter is really boring and not very interesting but I'm trying my best to write this story and the next chapter will be different when Y/n meets the one cosmic entity known as Creation that will tell him to go meet someone that can help him get away from W.I. Mickey and Satan until they find some allies to help them in order to defeat them.
So I hope you all understand my constant struggles of making this book and my other books that I'm working on.
Thank you and have a great day,
Penny for your thoughts? (Part 2)
@linawritesocs Here you go!
Vance Mintberry
Tumblr media
His character design in so cool! The teal highlights are *chef's kiss*, and he's adorably short, fitting in with his 'little brother' vibe! The jacket and shoes that he wears with his school uniform are so? cute?? as well??? Green and pink colour scheme yes!! 💚💗
“𝚒 𝚠𝚘𝚗𝚍𝚎𝚛 𝚒𝚏 𝚒 𝚌𝚊𝚗 𝚋𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚔 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚍 𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚠𝚑𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚊𝚛𝚎.” His scary voice lines do intrigue me a lot! 👀 I wonder what lore you have in stall for him, I'm certainly waiting to find out! I think there's a bit of self-awareness in there, seeing as he seems to know the player? Or rather the existence of the player?
His backstory is kinda sad though. :( I don't know what its like to be underestimated or babied too much, but I can imagine it must have been rather frustrating for Vance. Its also really interesting that he continues to act like 'Heartslaybyul students' little brother' when he doesn't want to be treated like a kid. Old habits die hard? He really likes the attention? Who knows.
Allen Snowhill
Tumblr media
His character design is 👌👌👌. I love his hair, and his blue eyes and popping! His joke about trolls when asked about his white hair is quite funny too! I wonder what's the real reason for his white streak of hair though? Is it the same thing that happened in Frozen?
I would like to know how he's creepy or weird though. Other ocs of yours do say that he's unsettling, but I've yet to see how he's unsettling in a scenario or something. Is he a stalker like Rook?
The thing about Allen is that I can only remember him interacting with other people. I can't imagine how he's like when he's alone. 🤔 Weird extroverts, I guess?
Austin Valiente
Tumblr media
I'm gonna be honest with you, Lina, I really didn't remember anything about Austin except that he's mean and knows mechanic stuff until I read his profile again. He isn't your most memorable oc, and I don't remember you mentioning him a lot either. 😬
But I will say that he looks super cool! His blue, brown, and black colour scheme works really well together~! I love the little mole on his left cheek too! Ehe, looks kinda kissable. He'd kill me, but still.
I don't know if he has a sad backstory reason (like Minnie) as to why he's so mean to everyone, but I will call him a horrible person regardless. Roasting people and making them cry, making them beg for help, and hypocritically calling Idia a 'pathetic weeb' makes him seem like he's being mean for no reason??? I don't like outwardly mean people like that, which is probably why I forgot about him in the first place-
Movies I watched this week (Year 4, week 6)
2 more by Irish director John Michael McDonagh:
🍿 "Piece by piece, the camel enters the couscous..."
The Forgiven, my 4th atmospheric, restrained thriller by [Martin McDonagh's brother]. A jaded, cynical boozer Ralph Fiennes arrives in Morocco for a weekend in the desert, and accidentally kills a local boy. Ominous, well-made drama about the clash of cultures, guilt and the search for redemption, with luminous Jessica Chastain. 7/10.
🍿 The second death was his first short. A taciturn alcoholic sits in an Irish bar, grapples with his memories.
By now I've seen the 5 movies he directed, and all but 'War on everyone' were great.
🍿
I've waited to the much-anticipated American Fiction, an intelligent meta-film about a writer pandering to black stereotypes. It's an intellectual and erudite story about bookish people, with a protagonist named Thelonious "Monk" Ellison. The 2 highlights were the subtle dancing scene (at 1:18) between the mother struck with Alzheimer and her son, and the meta-ending, trying different hats for size. The score was great, the sister was funny, the approach was highbrow. But best film of 2023?... C'mon. 8/10.
🍿
Robot dreams is my second by Spanish Pablo Berger (I just saw his Torremolinos 73 a few weeks ago). It's a very emotional, wordless tale of loneliness and friendship between "Dog" and his robot. Outstanding sharp animation from the very first images, it vividly depicts NYC in the 80' in rich and colorful details [eating Cheetos, playing Pong, cleaning bowling balls like Jesus Quintana]. 9/10 and my happiest film experience of the week. Deserves an immediate re-watch.
I haven't seen 'The boy and the heron' yet, but it was nominated for this year's Oscar, and I hope it wins.
🍿
First watch: Murnau's classic melodrama Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, winner of the first Oscars in 1929. Tracking camera movements, elaborate German expressionism sets and visual poetry.
🍿
5 more groundbreaking animations:
🍿 The amazing short, voted as the 19th Greatest Cartoon of All Time: Betty Boop in Snow-White. Max Fleischer's 1933 surrealistic piece, with Cab Calloway as 'Koko the Clown' singing "St. James Infirmary Blues."
Cab Calloway, the originator of the Moonwalk, collaborated with sexy Betty Boop in two other insane ditties: The Old Man of the Mountain and Minnie the Moocher.
🍿 Also, Dziga Vertov's 1924 Soviet Toys, the Soviet Union’s first ever animated movie.
🍿 Every time I watch the Dutch Father and daughter, it annihilates me, because I'm the father. Oscar winner for 2000. 10/10.
🍿
The Brother from Another Planet, my 3rd film by John Sayles, and the first disappointing one! This low-vibe sci-fi about an escaped extraterrestrial slave trying to find a new life in Harlem went way over my head. Originally, he was in a state of confusion, not knowing what things are. But then he developed some survival skills, but not others. (?). With young Fisher Stevens as a card hustler. 3/10.
🍿
2 with Laura Linney:
🍿 Suncoast is a semi-autobiographical coming of age story that feels crowded and depressing. A isolated 14-year-old girl in 2005 Clearwater, FL lives a life of trauma. Her brain dead, vegetative brother is being admitted to the same hospice where Terri Schiavo is, her father is already dead, she has no friends at all, and her mother, Laura Linney, is semi-crazed from all the tragedies. It's tough to take all that in, with death, Christianity and politics, mixing it up with regular teen angst and mother-daughter conflicts. With stirring performances by the two women, as well as Woody Harrelson as an irreverent anti-euthanasia activist. 4/10.
/ Female Director
🍿  "We're not in therapy right now. We're in real life..."
The Savages was the last of this week's movies, an afterthought. But it turned to be my favorite drama. My first by Tamara Jenkins, it tells of brunette Laura Linney, and her estranged brother Philip Seymour Hoffman, who have to get closer to each other, as they handle their distant father, now suffering from dementia. An unglamorous story with tender and subtle performances. 8/10.
[Strangely, both films, which has otherwise nothing in common with each other, include the same sad, cold scene of walking away in the corridors of a impersonal health-care institution, after the eventual death of a close relative.]
/ Female Director
🍿
The Company of Strangers is a Canadian story about 8 old women on a trip to the countryside, and who are stranded at an isolated cottage when their old tour bus breaks down. It's refreshing to see such a different premise for a movie, although, tbh, it wasn't too exciting.
/ Female Director
🍿
Carnival of Soul X 2:
🍿 "That's strange, Jim never has a second cup of coffee at home".
Carnival of Souls, a 1962 indie ghost story, the only feature film created by a guy from Lawrence, KS (who also played "The man"). A low-budget creative look, with German expressionist style, eerie organ score. A creepy neighbor, and a mansplaining doctor gaslight a single woman. There's an abandoned pavilion where the climax of the movie takes place, and it's clear that the whole plot was written around it. 4/10. (Photo Above).
🍿 Yella, my third enigmatic drama by Christian Petzold, loosely transported the narrative of 'Carnival of Soul' to modern day Germany. The heroine, Yella, is a submissive young woman with an abusive ex-husband who sees visions without agency. But replacing the spookiness of the original with unconvincing business machinations and unexplained sounds made it unremarkable and tedious. The fact that everybody left their hotel doors ajar was a big turn-off for me. 3/10.
🍿
Buster Keaton's The Navigator was his biggest commercial success. Later on it got selected for the National Film Registry, and earned 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. A few memorable set ups: Shuffling a deck of wet cards and an underwater sword fight with a swordfish. There's also the plot of the savage 'natives' / cannibals.
🍿
Kings of pastry, a D. A. Pennebaker documentary about three pastry chefs trying to achieve MOH status in 2007. For people with sweet tooth. Lovely over-use of Django Reinhardt 'Minor swing'. Re-watch.
🍿
In One Hour Photo Robin Williams played a lonely and obsessed clerk at a photo developing center at a mall. Not completely psychotic, he's sad and pathetic. The climax does not deliver.
🍿
First re-watch in many years: Tootsie about a unemployable actor who finally scores playing a female role. A melodrama about sex-roles and 1980 feminism that aged well for the most part. Mostly thanks to Sydney Pollack solid direction (and acting! He was better than the NY-actor Dustin Hoffman here, and he had all the best lines). Cross-dressing for the sake of a paycheck. 7/10.
🍿
First watch: Stephen King's middle-brow The green mile. Three hours of shallow drama, even before the supernatural miracles starts. A man-child 'Magical Negro' with the power of healing, all the time sweating like hogs, because of 'The south'. 3/10.
🍿
Nir ve Gali (ניר וגלי) is an Israeli animation studio that produced 91 anthropomorphic shorts. Unfortunately, their humor, which is among the funniest shit I ever saw, is probably untranslatable to people who don't speak Hebrew. Re-watch. 10/10.
🍿
Throw-back to the "Art project”:
Buster Keaton Adora.
🍿
Pretty Nose :A Fierce and Uncompromising Woman War Chief You Should Know
Pretty Nose (c. 1851 – after 1952) was an Arapaho woman, and according to her grandson, was a war chief who participated in the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876.In some sources, Pretty Nose is called Cheyenne, although she was identified as Arapaho on the basis of her red, black and white beaded cuffs. The two tribes were allies at the Battle of the Little Bighorn and are still officially grouped together as the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes.
On June 25, 1876, a battalion of the 7th Cavalry, led by George Armstrong Custer, was wiped out by an overwhelming force of Lakota, Dakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho.
There are many stories that come from this most famous battle of the Indian Wars. However, the most overlooked account is of the women warriors who fought alongside their male counterparts.
Minnie Hollow Wood, Moving Robe Woman, Pretty Nose (pictured), One-Who-Walks-With-The-Stars, and Buffalo Calf Road Woman were among the more notable female fighters.
Pretty Nose fought with the Cheyenne/Arapaho detachment.
One-Who-Walks-With-The-Stars (Lakota) killed two soldiers trying to flee the fight.
Minnie Hollow Wood earned a Lakota war-bonnet for her participation, a rare honor.
Lakota Moving Robe Woman fought to avenge the death of her brother.
And Cheyenne Buffalo Calf Road Woman holds the distinction of being the warrior who knocked Custer off his horse, hastening the demise of the over-confident Lt. Colonel.
Pretty Nose's grandson, Mark Soldier Wolf, became an Arapaho tribal elder who served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. She witnessed his return to the Wind River Indian Reservation in 1952, at the age of 101.
Minnie: The Challenges Of Stewardship Grey, Not Black And White
Our animal lives are rich and complex. We have pets; we have farm animals; we have domestic working animals; we have feral animals and barn cats. We live on the line between pets and animals, between the way of the city and the ways of the country. We’ve had to kill sheep, a donkey, and a pony, and our vet has killed several dogs and cats for us. We don’t have the heart to kill them. My…
Xatlyn-Sage End Bosses
Kingdom Hearts II
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I did try to make Xatlyn look like a Sailor Moon villain. Let’s just get the obvious out of the way.
You fight Xatlyn after you defeat Demyx, Saïx, Luxord, Xigbar, and Ettrax. Almost all of them tell you to “Go easy on her” and “She’s more broken. Be gentle.” When they tell you, you wouldn’t know who they’re talking about. Being the only Nobody who is known to have grown a heart, Xatlyn is a lot more sensitive and can have her heart broken more easily than the others. This makes her a very unstable boss to fight.
You first fight Xatlyn when you make your way to the Alter of Naught. She’s almost in tears, thinking about the loss of her friends. She takes her anger and sadness out on you as she separates you from everyone else. You defeat her you’re sent back to the Alter of Naught.
From the Alter of Naught, you can see Xatlyn floating near the false Kingdom Hearts. Only this time, she has a Keyblade in her hand.
Tumblr media
Xatlyn disappears into Kingdom Hearts, leaving a door for you to follow her into. After walking through the door, Kairi and Queen Minnie are separated from the group, only Daisy, Clarabelle, and Lauriam with you.
Making your way through the fragmented city, you find Xatlyn, but this time she’s wearing gold and silver full body armor, very indicative of Keyblade armor from way back when.
You defeat Xatlyn a second time, sending you back to The Alter of Naught. This time, Keyblade falling from her hand, Xatlyn fades away. The Keyblade with her.
Almost everyone besides you and Lauriam make it out through a Dark Corridor while you two get stuck.
While searching the castle for another way out, you find another Dark Corridor. This one leads to a white room with a man in a black hood sitting on a chair. He is alive, but only just. Xemnas.
As you walk up to him, a shadowy presence finds its way into the room, perching on top of the throne. It is Sage, Xatlyn’s heartless counterpart. As she tries to harm Xemnas, you need to protect his almost lifeless body.
She manages to get the upper hand and disappears into the castle, possessing it from the inside and using Xemnas’ almost lifeless body as a vessel.
You defeat her and she sinks into the floor, possessing the castle and using Xemnas’ body anyway.
You defeat Sage a second time only to be sent to The Abyss. Xatlyn (in the outfit from the picture) is here, practically stating her title as Countess of The Abyss. She says that she’s highly disappointed in you for not keeping Xemnas safe and allowing her heartless counterpart to use him as a vessel. Having him be killed in the process.
You fight Xatlyn a third time, this time while she’s using all the powers and weapons of all past Organization Members. From Larxene’s knives and Etrrax’s Force to Demyx’s sitar and Méxnnia’s Light, Xatlyn really brings the pain with her late friends powers and abilities. And considering you’re fighting her in The Abyss (one of her domains), she’s extra strong.
After defeating her, you and Lauriam are greeted by a light shining in the distance. It leads you to the Realm of Darkness, where you find Kairi’s letter.
