Fulang-Chang and I by Frida Kahlo, 1937
She painted herself with the pet spider monkey depicted in the photograph. Since Frida was unable to conceive a child with Diego Rivera due to the traumatic tram accident she sustained in 1925, she was an avid pet owner who felt close to animals. The pink ribbon in the painting symbolizes that closeness.
