Quote
It's Mental Health Month.
You never know what kind of day someone is having. A good day? Maybe they woke up from a nightmare and haven’t been able to shake these feelings all morning? Maybe they saw a face from the past which put them out of sorts.
Mental health is very important.
Sometimes just by saying hi and being kind can make someone’s day.
You do it every day for me, so here’s me giving back to all of you.
You’re beautiful. You’re amazing. You’re astounding. You’re a creative mastermind. You’ve got talent. Your words inspire. Your actions spur me forward. You know just what to say. You make my day. You are you, and that is all I ask you to be.
Cheers and, as always, stay awesome! ~Narrans

Oh, uh.. Hi! Is Soren here? I wanted to ask if he knew about depression, and if he could say something to people about it. like motivation! Maybe. Thank you for taking your time. -anon in the walls
Soren: Hey! Yeah, I'm here. Ha... usually here... listening. Amazing what you hear when you listen.
Depression? Wow... that's... huh... wow... that's a really good topic (*reaches up and rubs the back of his neck, hand lingering there for a moment*). Yeah, I know about it. I've... had moments like this - a lot of them now that I think about it (chuckles nervously).
It's... easy for people to say that they know what you're going through or that you can always go and talk to them if you are feeling sad or off. The thing is you don't always feel like talking about it - at least with someone else.
I can say from personal experience that there were times that were... really rough for me; specifically with death and losing people I love and get attached to. It's a terrible feeling. I usually get quiet... um... my chest feels tight. It seems like all of this struggle from day to day is menial and tedious.
Um... when my dad died (clears throat slightly) I was mostly angry. I was old enough to know what was going on and kind of jumped through the whole denial thing quickly and just kind of stayed in anger for a long time until I really talked to my mom about it.
It wasn't the same for my mom. I wasn't really angry and more depressed about that. I... can honestly say, and I hate it just a little, that Brady came through providing for the family. Same with... Lucy (folds arms across chest) and with... um... yeah um... with Ashlynn.
And then I remember Ashlynn... and Dorian and Rey and Mayzie. I have no doubt that they love me and care about me. I remember the good times we had together and remember that me feeling sad now doesn't negate the happy feelings I've had. I'd have to say that if I was happy once, it can't be a one time thing, right? If you can be happy once, you can be happy again.
At... (clears throat)... at the end of the day, you have to realize two things. One of them being that it is okay to be sad and to have days where you just can't shake this compression in you chest; at least, that's how it feels for me. The second thing, and this is probably more important, is that you have to remember, seriously, that feelings are temporary, you are probably not the only one going through stuff, and that people are counting on you being you - and being there for them.
It's okay to not feel okay, and pain is temporary. Everyone is trying to figure out life, believe me. If you think you're alone - don't. That's one of those mental games that tries to trick you. You're not alone in anything. If you can't get a hold of friends and family, you always have your found family - people like us waiting in the wing to remind you that you're loved and that you're precious.
Find something that makes you happy. Any happy little thought... (sigh...) yes... Peter Pan. Ashlynn showed it to Mayzie the other night. Enjoy it. There’s... something beautiful... in appreciating that one thing that makes you happy... Lucy would say that....
Also, and this isn't me being harsh, don't do the whole "I'm fine" thing if you aren't feeling fine. There is a book about as tall as I am with words to describe your thoughts and feelings, and based on what Ashlynn says there are even more on this whole internet thing. If you're not fine, say your not fine and find the simplest and best way to describe your feelings. No one is in your head other than you. You're your own best advocate. If you can't speak up for you and if you don't stand up for yourself, who will know something is wrong? It can be something as simple as, "I'm not fine. I feel sad. I don't know about what, but I feel sad." It starts a conversation or, at the very least, acknowledges your feelings and informs others what's going on.
And hey, if you ever want to talk - I'm always here. So is Ashlynn, though... she may be a little more direct than me.
There's this one quote that Ashlynn read from some book by Mary someone... Shelby?... Shillings?... Shelley! Mary Shelley, from Frankenstein. It's... "Life, although it may only be an accumulation of anguish, it is dear to me and I will defend it."
I intend to defend those happy moments and defend my life and the life of my family because they are dear to me. They make my life - everyone who I've met... and I guess that means you make my life too.
Um... anyway... I'm rambling (smiles nervously).
Thank you for reaching out. Really, this was... nice. I don't know if I've said this much about depression and sadness in my entire life. Thank you for asking about it. I hope this was motivational or... insightful? Reflective?
Anyway... I'm going to take Narrans' line and say stay awesome!

9 Ways to Help a Loved One Who Has Anxiety or Depression
Tumblr media
Even though you want to do everything you can to help a loved one who is struggling, there are times when you might not know what to do. It’s important to remember that the first and most important thing you can do to help a loved one who is suffering from anxiety or depression is to let them know they’re not alone and that you’re there to support them on their difficult journey.
According to the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) curriculum, there is evidence that those who are depressed or anxious may benefit from receiving support from others or joining a mutual support group. As research shows people with mental illnesses are more likely to seek professional help if someone close to them suggests it.
That’s why it’s important that as a family member or friend, you can recognize when your loved one with a mental illness is struggling and how you can offer them support. If you aren’t sure where to start, here are 9 Ways to Help a Loved One Who Has Anxiety or Depression:
9 Ways to Help a Loved One Who Has Anxiety or Depression - Self-Care Psyche Even though you want to do everything you can to help a loved one who is struggling, there are times when you might not…selfcarepsyche.com
1. Initiate a conversation with them
A conversation can significantly impact how someone heals from anxiety and depression by making them feel less isolated and more supported. Even if you don’t know the right words to say, don’t undervalue the importance of simply “being there.”
It could require some preparation and consideration to bring up the matter with the person you care about. Bring up the subject in a way that feels natural to you. There is no correct or incorrect way to express concern. Just be yourself.
An alternative strategy is to provide an explanation of your worries. What did you observe that caused you to worry about them? Was it their state of mind, mood, or recent behavior? Even if they might not be ready to talk about their feelings just yet, your loved one would at least acknowledge your concern for them and appreciate your willingness to help.
2. Try to understand what exactly they’re struggling with
What exactly does “normal” anxiety or depression look like? Since everyone who suffers from anxiety or depression does so in their own unique way, focusing your attention on the individual and their distinct signs and symptoms is key in helping them. Look for the signs they exhibit. What causes them to have a bad day? What does a good day look like to them?
Regardless of how much research you do on anxiety and depression and how they manifest, no one knows their condition better than them. So, ask them directly how their mental illness is affecting their everyday life; don’t be hesitant to probe around a little if you have to. Because you’re showing that you are committed to helping them, your loved one will be more comfortable reaching out to you for help.
3. Actively listen to what they have to say
During your conversation with them, encourage them to discuss what is happening, how they feel, what they’re thinking, and what they want to do differently. Spend some time trying to understand their sense of anxiety or depression, while acknowledging and affirming their feelings.
You might be tempted to offer suggestions, advice, or a diagnosis of their problem, but try to
