Fall in love with taking care of yourself!
Hoping this will serve as a reminder for myself but if anyone else sees this then let it be a reminder for you too.
Self-care is more than luxury, it’s necessity. I mean that for two reasons;
1. You do not have to ‘earn’ self-care. It is your right, no your moral obligation to yourself soul, to look care for yourself. It’s a basic survival instinct that you need to develop and foster EVERY. SINGLE. DAMN. DAY. You do not need to run yourself into the ground in order to treat your self well, with the care and love you deserve. You do not need to wait until you are completely burnt out in order to refuel, that’s as bad for you as it is for your car!
Which leads me to point 2.
2) Self-care is just simply - taking care of yourself. It isn’t exclusive to long hot baths, expensive face masks and using your ‘nice’ perfume on nights out. It’s the every day, ensuring you get enough sleep, eating to fuel and nourish your body, working out because it helps your mental health.
Self-care doesn’t need to be costly in money or time. This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t treat yourself to the luxuries, of course you should but you need to remember the difference between ‘self-care’ and ‘luxurious treats’.
Here is my list of low-cost, low-effort & low-time self-care tips, I hope this list help.
- Getting 8 hours of sleep
- Showering daily
- Maintaining oral hygiene
- Drinking plenty of water
- Keep up with skin care
- Balanced eating; what you want and what your body needs (this one’s a toughy)
- Exercising for your body as well as your mind but rest when you need too
- Stop doom scrolling
- In fact, no phone one hour before bed
- Read more, you love it once you start
- Notice the little things in life and appreciate them
- JOURNAL
- Be creative; at work and in life
- Speak/think kindly about yourself
- Make time for music - to sit and actively listen and experience the lyrics and melodies
- Get out in nature, it can bring such a clear perspective
Some of these may seem obvious but their impact is often taken advantage of and then they become forgotten. Especially if you are ailed with one or more mental health issues, the basic and mundane can often become overwhelming and unachievable. If that sounds like you then I recommends slow integration into the above, you do not need to do this all at space. You can pick up and put down these tips in any order you feel, just pace yourself, take one day at a time and listen to your body & mind. Before long these tips will feel so easy but you’ll still be getting just as much from them and ‘slowly and then all at once’ you’ll fall in love with taking care of yourself.
I love you, all of you!

The Role of Endocannabinoids in Regulating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD Awareness Day 27th June
Tumblr media
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after an individual experiences or witnesses a traumatic event. PTSD can cause intrusive memories, avoidance behaviours, negative changes in mood and cognition, and increased arousal or reactivity. While various treatment options are available for PTSD, understanding the underlying mechanisms can pave the way for more effective therapeutic interventions. One such mechanism involves the endocannabinoid system, which plays a crucial role in regulating emotional responses and memory processes. This article will explore how endocannabinoids can regulate PTSD without diving into medical use of CBD.
The Endocannabinoid System
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex cell-signalling system that plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis within the body. It is composed of three primary components: endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes. Endocannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds that are similar in structure to the active compounds found in cannabis. The two main endocannabinoids are anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG).
These endocannabinoids interact with specific receptors, primarily CB1 and CB2, which are located throughout the body, including the brain and immune system. Enzymes, such as fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) and monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL), are responsible for breaking down endocannabinoids once they have fulfilled their function.
Tumblr media
Endocannabinoids and PTSD
Research has shown that the ECS plays a significant role in the regulation of emotional responses, stress resilience, and the consolidation and extinction of fear memories. These processes are highly relevant to the development and persistence of PTSD symptoms.
1. Emotional Regulation
Endocannabinoids, particularly anandamide, have been found to modulate emotional responses and stress resilience. Anandamide can reduce anxiety-like behaviours and promote positive emotional states by binding to CB1 receptors in the brain. This interaction can help regulate the release of neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and serotonin, which are crucial for maintaining emotional balance.
2. Fear Memory Consolidation and Extinction
The ECS is involved in the consolidation and extinction of fear memories, both of which are essential processes in the development and maintenance of PTSD. Consolidation refers to the stabilisation of a memory after its initial acquisition, while extinction is the process through which a conditioned response is weakened or eliminated.
Endocannabinoids can modulate these processes by influencing the activity of key brain regions, such as the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex. For instance, increased levels of anandamide have been shown to facilitate fear extinction, suggesting that enhancing endocannabinoid signalling could potentially alleviate PTSD symptoms.
3. Stress Response
The ECS plays a critical role in regulating the body's response to stress. Under normal circumstances, endocannabinoids act as a buffer against the harmful effects of stress by dampening the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, the primary stress response system. However, in individuals with PTSD, this buffering capacity may be compromised, leading to heightened stress reactivity and vulnerability to developing PTSD symptoms.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Understanding the role of endocannabinoids in regulating PTSD offers valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of this complex disorder. While more research is needed, targeting the endocannabinoid system could potentially lead to innovative therapeutic approaches that address the emotional, cognitive, and physiological aspects of PTSD.If you wish to help support and raise awareness about PTSD, you can donate here to PTSD UK on JustGiving.

❄️𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛𝗨𝗣 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗧❄️ 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 January can be a tough month for many of us. It's the start of a New Year. We're still stuck in Holiday mode. And as creatives and authors, the pressure to constantly produce can weigh heavily on our mental health. Self care is crucial in maintaining our creativity and productivity, and this month, I'll be taking time to prioritize my own well-being by going for daily walks and eating as healthy as I can. What helps you stay focused? 𝗦𝗡𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 - 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘆 My lower back burned. Sweat dripped down my forehead. It felt as if my arms would fall off but I kept pushing forward. My hands trembled with fatigue and frustration. Sweat trickled along the line of my chin. My lungs heaved as I gasped for air. After several repetitions, Osbius told me to rest. As soon as I set the weights back down, I collapsed on the floor. My heart raced and I struggled to catch my breath. "Don't worry. You did well. Take a few minutes to recover yourself," he said calmly. "Thank you..." I muttered before looking up at him. "... Osbius… for what you did today. For training me." "I only did what needed to be done." He patted me on the back. "This is just the beginning of the journey. We have a long way to go." I groaned, "Lovely." He chuckled before getting to his feet. "Come on kiddo, let's go scrounge up some dinner." ❄️❄️❄️ #selfcare #authorlife #mentalhealthawareness #authors #writingcommunity #creativity #productivity #wellbeing #dailywalks #healthyeating #fitness #motivation #authorsupport #mindfulness #selfcareroutine #writerslife #selfcaretips #creativewriting #mentalhealthawarenessweek #selfcareideas #writingmotivation #thewritercommunity #mindset #selfcarefirst #selfcareroutines #authorcommunity #workharderday #writinginspiration #storydevelopmentthursday #writerswritesnippets (at Naperville, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnV6XWqu_xG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Mental and physical health are equally important components of overall health. For example, depression increases the risk for many types of physical health problems, particularly long-lasting conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Mental and physical health cannot be separated from each other. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
