holy GOD. you’ll never guess what I discovered today
so I was trying to clean up my computer when I stumbled across a treasure trove of old documents from high school—my school district used Google Classroom and we had Google accounts linked to our school emails, and I knew the accounts deactivated when we graduated, so I used Takeout to download my whole drive the spring of my senior year in case I wound up needing anything in it. There’s a lot of stuff in there, mostly old schoolwork and a shit ton of training completion certificates for research labs I worked in... and THIS.
Tumblr media
School-sanctioned, teacher-assigned Justinian/Theodora historical RPF.
I think the premise of the project was that we were supposed to choose a historical couple and tell the story of their lives as a series of written love letters between them. We were given a list of couples to pick from, but they were all either too recent or too uncomfortable somehow (lots of politicians who oversaw tragedies that were still in living memory—I was not writing a love letter that mentioned 9/11.) So I bucked tradition and picked Justinian and Theodora, because a.) of course I did, and b.) it’s way easier to write about people who have been dead for 1500 years than people who are still alive today and who regularly appear on the news.
anyway, have you ever wanted to see the politics of mid-500s Constantinople told as a series of fake love letters between two long-dead monarchs penned by a resentful 15-year-old who found the whole project cripplingly uncomfortable?
Tumblr media
there’s NINE MORE of these. NINE MORE. The amount of semicolon abuse alone is making me scream, what was wrong with 15-year-old me
@ justinian: if the afterlife is real and you’re looking down on me from heaven rn, please forgive me for writing sappy fake love letters between you and your wife. although i’m sure they aren’t the worst things people have said about you guys

Going to the Big D
And I don't mean Dallas. If true, Rachel is all
Tumblr media
Rumors are swirling around London town.
There is a rumour going around in London that Charles has retained a divorce lawyer for Hasbeen. His name is Robert Stephan Cohen and represented Melinda Gates in her divorce. His offices are in Manhattan. I don't know if this is true, but I heard it in London over the weekend.
and
I heard divorce rumours when I was back home in Yorkshire around Christmas, this seems more feasible. Robert works for Cohen, Clair, Lans, Greifer & Simpson; he personally practices in NY, CT, FL, GA, IL, NJ, WA, MO & internationally AND they have Shannon Simpson as part of their firm; she was based in London for 2 years and still practices there - so I wouldn’t be surprised if (the Royal Family) have her on retainer  just in case. It’s not uncommon to retain bulldog attorneys when you can afford to keep them in your pocket. Heavy hitters like Simpson & Cohen who represented Melinda Gates are important because if they aren’t on BRFs retainer then they can be hired by Meghan. Given that they were able to secure Melinda 76 Billion USD, it’s in the (Royal Family's) best interest that they have Cohen on their side.
and
There has been talk that Harry stayed behind in NY while Meghan and her coterie returned to California.
Tumblr media
Will be interesting to watch this play out, if there's any fire behind all this smoke.

Interestingly, Melinda Gates filed for divorce in May 2021 when Bill Gates was 65 (this interview was done months later after he turned 66)
The 2020s and 60s activates his 6H Taurus in the D9 chart, which shows marriage life. He has 6L/7H Venus which shows quarrels / conflict in marriage, especially with Mars’ conjunction which activated in 2021 as Mars rules the 1st zodiac sign Aries.
2021 also activated his 1L/6H Jupiter which shows obstacles in marriage
He was 65 in May 2021 when Melinda Gates filed for divorce. The #5 in 65 and 5th month of May activates his Ketu (separation) in the 5th zodiac sign Leo.

what pete davidson allergations??? (also who is pete davidson)
hey this is so funny. (for anyone wondering anon is referencing my tags on this post)
okay so Pete Davidson is a comedian who several years ago started getting huge on social media when he got engaged to Ariana Grande (fun fact, her description of him is where the “big dick energy” meme comes from) but she dumped him before they ever got married.
Later, he started dating Kim Kardashian RIGHT AFTER she split from Kanye. He then when on to date several other incredibly famous and beautiful women despite most people agreeing he’s pretty mid himself. The internet kind of latched onto him as the ultimate celebrity rebound guy and now every time a famous woman breaks up with her boyfriend or leaves her husband you’ll find approximately one million memes about how Pete Davidson is going to swoop in any minute now (I think I even saw some about Melinda Gates when she and Billy got divorced?)
anyways I think you can tell where I’m going with this, so I will just leave you with this tumblr post:

So I just finished watching the CW’s Gotham Knights.
And it was fine. What I expected from a CW show. Nothing exceptional. But tbh here was one thing that really bothered me
Gotham likes and knows the wrong stories about Batman. I think this is post noticeable in episode 6: A Chill in Gotham.
For those that don’t know, Joe Chill is the guy who killed Batman’s parents. It’s like this whole thing. It’s also multiple “whole things” in the comics.
In this episode, it turns out that Joe Chill was just a patsy for the court of owls. It’s fine, that’s whatever. But I have a problem with how this murder shook the city.
Imagine if Bill and Melinda Gates had been murdered before their divorce. They are well known philanthropists. Very public figures for their good actions. It would be a tragedy if they died, but in no world would it shake people for more than a day. And to be fair to the Waynes, they probably were closer to the people they were (theoretically) helping then the Gates were. I think it might be remembered as a tragedy, like the death of Kobe or JFK, but I have a hard time believe it became mythologized like it did in Gotham Knights.
Furthermore, criminals are people. The character that is the Joker’s daughter (not really, I not gonna explain it) says the Joe Chill became idolized in the criminal community. That he showed Gotham’s elite that they weren’t about the rest of us or something like that.
That’s dumb.
I’ll admit, I’m not a criminal (not yet at least :P), but I have such a hard time imagining people would idolize Joe Chill in this way. It’s be like if people idolized Lee Harvey Oswald or a serial Killer like Ted Bundy. Of course it happens, but those people are weird. (Don’t at me, I don’t want to deal with you). Anyways, there’s no way a large group of people would actively idolize Joe Chill like the story claims.
Like I though Gotham Knights would be interesting because it shows a Gotham that grew up with the stories of Batman. Like what it would actually mean to live in a city that had a vigilante protecting you. How having that symbol of hope might change an average citizen’s perspective on the Gotham.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t.

I acknowledge that the post I’m about to make is extremely Seattle inside baseball, but:
I saw a headline this morning stating “Melinda French Gates, MacKenzie Scott to help transform Seattle waterfront” (sounds like a new walking/biking path, which is nice) and I caught myself thinking yet again that I would love to be a fly on the wall of their conversations.
Because here’s the thing: these are the accomplished ex-wives of Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, respectively. The divorces happened about a year apart, if I remember correctly.
And outside of the topic of civic improvements, I would LOVE to know what these ladies chat about over coffee.
(or tea, as the case may be)
(because I’m sure some has been spilled)

"In July, the Microsoft billionaire and his ex-wife Melinda French Gates announced they were putting another $20bn (£17.1bn) into the charitable foundation they continue, post-divorce, to co-chair. How harmoniously, few in the pair’s large purpose-built Seattle headquarters are close enough to know, but it brought the total endowment to $70bn"

Billionaires should face a minimum tax rate, report says

By Dearbail Jordan
Business reporter, BBC News
Billionaires should face a minimum tax rate, according to a report which found some of the world’s mega-wealthy are paying little to no tax.
The EU Tax Observatory said most people pay a higher rate than the super-rich, who, it said, are able to use complex business structures for avoidance.
It suggested a minimum 2% tax rate on billionaires’ global wealth would raise $250bn (£205bn) a year.
There are around 2,500 billionaires with a combined wealth of $13 trillion.
The report by EU Tax Observatory, part of the Paris School of Economics, examined how successful efforts to ensure individuals and companies pay their fair share have been over the past 10 years.
It said that the automatic sharing of the wealthy’s account information across more than 100 countries had significantly reduced offshore tax evasion.
However, billionaires are able to get away with paying tax rates equal to 0% or 0.5% of their wealth “due to the frequent use of shell companies to avoid income taxation”, it said.
Meanwhile, while the report commended an agreement in 2021 between 140 different countries to make sure companies pay at least 15% in corporation tax, it said that the plan had been “dramatically weakened” since then by a “growing list of loopholes”.
Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel Prize-winning American economist, suggested in an introduction to the report that unfairness in taxation poses a risk to democracy.
“If citizens don’t believe that everyone is paying their fair share of taxes – and especially if they see the rich and rich corporations not paying their fair share – then they will begin to reject taxation.
“Why should they hand over their hard-earned money when the wealthy don’t? This glaring tax disparity undermines the proper functioning of our democracy; it deepens inequality, weakens trust in our institutions, and erodes the social contract.”
Some of the world’s richest people have pledged to give the majority of their wealth away. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, philanthropist Melinda French Gates and billionaire investor Warren Buffett set up the “Giving Pledge” in 2010 to “set a new standard of generosity among the ultra-wealthy”.
Following a series of tax changes in 2013, Mr Buffett conceded that even though his tax rate had risen he was still paying a lower percentage than his secretary.
“I’ll probably be the lowest paying taxpayer in the office,” he said at the time.
Jeff Bezos pledges to give away most of his wealth
MacKenzie Bezos to give away half of fortune
Mr Stiglitz said that addressing tax fairness and collecting revenues was “critical” for society, “as countries around the world face the challenges of climate change, pandemics and inequality, and as governments have to make essential investments in education, health, infrastructure and technology”.
One of the relatively recent signees to the Giving Pledge is MacKenzie Scott, an author and former wife of Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos.
As part of their divorce four years ago, she was handed a 4% stake in the online retailing giant. Ms Scott has since given away around $14bn and, according to Forbes magazine, is currently worth around $33.6bn.
Her former husband of 25 years, Mr Bezos is the world’s third richest man with a fortune of $148bn. Last year, he told CNN he wanted to give away the majority of his wealth.
Elon Musk, owner of X, formerly Twitter and co-founder and leader of Tesla and SpaceX, is currently the world’s richest man, according to Forbes, with a fortune of $225bn.

Bill Gates finds love again at 67, reportedly dating ex-Oracle president’s widow
Tumblr media
American businessman Bill Gates is reportedly dating Paula Hurd, 2 years after divorcing his wife of 27years, Melinda. Paula Hurd is the widow of Mark Hurd, the CEO of the software company Oracle, who di£d in 2019. According to People, the 67-year-old Microsoft co-founder has been dating Paula Hurd, 60, for more than a year. A source who spoke with the news outlet said, “It’s widely known that Bill Gates and Paula Hurd are dating, but she hasn’t met his kids yet.” The duo was photographed together at the Australian Open last month. The alleged couple were seen sitting side-by-side as they watched the game. Ms Hurd’s husband di£d at the age of 62 in October 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Hurd works as an event planner and philanthropist, she once worked as a tech executive.
