...the energies and giftings of Christians will either be suffocated, or they will find an outlet, and it is rather too much for leaders to assume the ability to determine, on the one hand, whether those giftings will be allowed to function or not and, on the other hand, to decide exactly how they will be used. Those who do not fit the leaders' plans will either be smothered into silence, and probable spiritual lethargy, or they will find some other outlet for their energies, usually by creating trouble, which may give the leaders all sorts of opportunities to condemn such people for their wickedness, but will do little to advance the kingdom of God. The only other option is that they will leave the church. That may appear an attractive possibility if all leaders want is a docile fan club, but again it does little to advance the kingdom or equip the saints.
