Meanwhile in Sweden - Tesla Strike Edition
So we all know about the strike action against Tesla in Sweden? Yes? Yes, good.
It was in the news in Sweden today that apparently, someone on Tesla tried contacting the Minister for Employment about the strike-situation, very literally asking for "an audience". Yes, that wording. He asked for an audience to discuss the situation.
Of course, that request was also rejected. Because the government is not supposed to get involved in these things - it's between the unions and the companies, the government doesn't really have a say.
IF Metall, the company that Tesla is beefing with, have made a statement on the matter saying that it's clear that the people at Tesla have no fucking idea about how things work in Sweden.
But let it just sink in for a moment that someone at Tesla thought this was a good idea. We don't know if they had directions from higher up (perhaps even from the Rat himself?) or if they just acted alone. But they acted. And they thought they could get the government involved. They thought they could get the government to intervene on Tesla's behalf.
Let it sink in just how willing they are to take underhanded actions and also just how UNwilling they are to accept that they're not going to get their way.
Oh and also apparently Norway is getting involved now too and are saying that they'll stop the import of Tesla cars into the country if Tesla does not agree to IF Metall's conditions at the latest on the 20th of December.

For those of you following tall ship news who saw the update about the sailing boat that was rescued by the Götheborg last week off the French coast: We have now got into contact with the sailors, and they have shared both their story and photos with us. Or in their own words “This moment was very strange, and we wondered if we were dreaming. Where were we? What time period was it?”
You can read their story in this post or here https://www.gotheborg.se/news/rescue-of-sailing-boat/. It's a long, but nice, read.
Photo: David Moeneclaey (photos from the sailing boat) and Linus Hjelm (photos from Götheborg)
Text from the two sailors on the sailing vessel Corto:
On April 25th at 01:00, we left Cherbourg and set sail for Camaret (the tip of Brittany).
We are two experienced sailors on board (Simon and me) with the objective of bringing the boat to Southern Brittany.
At 15:30, we were at sea, more than 50 nautical miles from the coast, when our rudder broke. After sending a PAN-PAN call on the VHF radio, the three-masted sailboat Götheborg quickly responded to our call, offering to tow us to Paimpol (France).
We repeatedly emphasized that we were aboard a small 8-meter sailboat, but the response was the same each time: "We are a 50-meter three-masted sailboat, and we offer our assistance in towing you to Paimpol." We were perplexed by the size difference between our two boats, as we feared being towed by a boat that was too large and at too fast a speed that could damage our boat.
The arrival of the Götheborg on the scene was rapid and surprising, as we did not expect to see a merchant ship from the East India Company of the XVIII century. This moment was very strange, and we wondered if we were dreaming. Where were we? What time period was it? The Götheborg approached very close to us to throw the line and pass a large rope. The mooring went well, and our destinies were linked for very long hours, during which we shared the same radio frequency to communicate with each other.
The crew of the Götheborg showed great professionalism and kindness towards us. They adapted their speed to the size of our boat and the weather conditions. We felt accompanied by very professional sailors. Every hour, the officer on duty of the Götheborg called us to ensure everything was going well.
The next day, as we approached the French coast, we radioed for another boat to help us enter the port, but no one responded positively. Around noon, the Götheborg approached us as closely as possible and stayed by our side until the arrival of a French rescue boat to ensure that everything would go well for us before letting us go.
This adventure, very real, was an incredible experience for us. We were extremely lucky to cross paths with the Götheborg by chance and especially to meet such a caring crew.
Dear commander and crew of the Götheborg, your kindness, and generosity have shown that your ship is much more than just a boat. It embodies the noblest values of the sea, and we are honored to have had the chance to cross your path and benefit from your help.
We thank you again for everything you have done for us.
Sincerely,
David Moeneclaey (skipper of the sailboat Corto)

I am. Angry. I am so pissed off.
Tbh I think winners shouldn't be sent in again
My take is that winners can take part again if they want to, but if I were one of them I'd consider it really carefully. There is no going higher than winning the contest. Apart from Lena who finished in respectable 10th place while defending her trophy, Rybak won his semi but then bombed to the 15th place in the final, Niamh Kavanagh finished 23rd in the final and Dana International didn't even qualify.
Loreen did win, but at the cost of people getting angry at her, at Sweden, at the voting system and at the juries' taste, people saying that Finland was the real winner and Cha Cha Cha trending number one in numerous countries instead of Tattoo. Even Swedes don't seem to be happy with the result judging by the shit they are throwing at Finland in their media at the moment.
Loreen went from a legendary Eurovision winner who really redefined the contest with her modern song and creative choreography to someone who is deemed to have won unfairly with a literally beige performance, predictable pop song and jury nepotism against people's favourite Finnish original techno-metal-rap-disco with a charismatic singer and a crazy, unpredictable performance that got all the arena singing along without understanding a word.
Was it worth it?

The funniest thing I have seen this week is the fact that Russia called both Finland and Sweden, Santa Claus lands. And then they told that finns will die to cold and finns answered to that with memes of people ice swimming

So this is hilarious.
Apparently the Swedish commentator for Eurovision is critical of the fact that the Finnish commentator said “vote tactically” in connection to how many votes you got. Which was NOT intended as “sink Sweden”, but the Swedish commentator thinks it was because Sweden didn’t get any votes from Finnish viewers.
You guys WON, isn’t that fucking enough? Yeah, we’re mad about the jury-votes, we are allowed to be. Do you guys REALLY need to try to discredit that anger by claiming that we were TOLD to not vote for Sweden when you just had a bad fucking song?

Finland (alongside Sweden, most likely) is joining NATO and Russians are throwing tantrums, as expected.
It might feel like a foregone conclusion at this point, but this is honestly pretty huge. This would have been inconceivable a year ago, or even six months ago. We were happy with our neutral, diplomacy-oriented position.
Also inconceivable? You know how I said earlier that the President of Finland is not so much a leader as our head diplomat, with his most important duty being maintaining good relations with Russia? Well, his message to Russia while announcing with our PM that they’re in favor of joining NATO: “You caused this yourself. Take a look in the mirror.”
Well played, Vlad. You’re getting a brand new 1,300km border with NATO and one of the most powerful armies in Europe -- one that exists to fight Russia -- to protect the Baltic states as well as our own borders. And we are not afraid of you.

The romance!! 🥺🤭
No but the fact that they went to get fucking snus aside, we can imagine they also stopped at the Ikea in Haparanda (the town you pass when going to Sweden from Finland by car in the north) and had a lovely meatball date there! 🥰
