Reading hammmer of thor and we got to Hearth's house and um..

Getting back into the Magnus Chase books means that I get to remember the absolute beauty of Blitz and Hearth. Two lovely men who are rejected by their families for being different.

Blitzen is a brilliant artist who cannot survive in the sunlight, whereas Hearthstone is a talented rune mage who can’t survive in darkness. And yet, they are inseparable.

Hearth is known for not showing a significant amount of emotion, yet any time Blitz shows up after being separated from him, Hearth practically launches himself at the dwarf.

Blitz is unendingly protective over Hearth; always there to catch him when he feints, never missing a chance to defend the elf’s abilities.

They’re casually and non sexually intimate all the time. Whether they are queer platonic, romantic, or a secret third thing, they’re absolutely devoted to one another.

And I think that’s beautiful.

Just remembered something I wanted to put up here about the third mgca book The Ship of The Dead. After Magnus's flyting with Loki, the next day when everyone is on the ship together.

"The next day, Blitzen and Hearthstone went into nurturing mode, making sure everybody had food, everybody was warm enough, nobody was alone if they didn't want to be."

These two have SO much love to give. Whether it's their love for each other or the love for their friends, their family. They love every one of them so much and would do anything and everything for them. I love how they go out of their way to make sure that everyone is ok. If someone needs company or someone to talk with, they're there.

Heathstone and Blitzen have been through so SO much. And now they've finally found their real family in each other and the rest of their friends.

And they'll do everything they can to not lose it.

OKAY GUYS SO. *slaps on clown makeup* I think I know why Blitzstone was never made canon.

*begins pacing* we all know that blitzstone is a side ship, unlike fierrochase, so we never really got an in-depth look into this ship because it’s from magnus’s pov. Rick dedicated HoT to JRR Tolkien, who apparently introduced him to norse mythology. Therefore we can assume that he’s read lotr. Hearth annd Blitz are an elf and a dwarf who’re very close to each other. Who in lotr are an elf and a dwarf who’re also very close to each other? Legolas and Gimli, obviously. SO we can assume from here that Rick modelled Hearth and Blitz on them. It’s up for debate over whether gigolas was a thing, though it seems to be implied- KEEPING IN MIND our theory that Rick based Blitz and Hearth’s relationship on them, it follows that blitzstone was never made canon because gigolas was never made canon.

Wouldn't Hearthstone and Grover get along well? They are both creatures of nature and of thr past. Hearthstone, ever the romantic that Blitzen says he is, longs for the older days, maybe when the world was more alive with nature than it was with technology. This silly elf took a nap in the grass and left a bed of daises in his wake. Grover was dedicated to finding Pan for a really long time and even on a normal basis, he talks about how nature has been abused by humanity. Let's not forget that this satyr carried a tin can for miles before offering it to Percy preceding his battle with Ares, or that he really enjoyed a reverse hunting game where deer killed hunters instead. They would be very environmentally friendly buddies.

QUESTION

When reading Magnus Chase, did you read Inge's name as "(h) inge" or "in geh"? I've always read it the first way but a while back I was listening to the audio book version of it in YouTube and the person I was listening to said it the second way. I had never heard it that way and I had no clue who he was talking about for a second.

Same question for Hearthstone. Do you say "Harth-stone" or "Hearth-stone" I've heard both but I've always said "Harth"
