Pacific Rim texting headcanons:
Pentecost has absolutely zero typos.
There's no way Chuck is a good texter he has no one to talk to beside his dad he sucks at it
Also Chuck's most used emojis are the dog one and the insulting ones lol
Mako is the queen of abbreviations she is also a smooth texter (like her dad) but with more emojis.
Raleigh was isolated from the world for years he is an awkward texter for sure. His face was priceless when he saw all the new emojis. He is an overtexter, of course.
If the Wei Tang brothers text you a voice message you CANNOT listen to it in public there's no way of knowing what it says
Newt sometimes only talks using emojis combinations that only Hermann can read.
Seriously Hermann texts are either long ass paragraphs or hand emojis kehfkfjfkfj
Bless Tenko, king of smooth texters.
The Kaidonovsky has this rule of no pics no videochats no voice messages if you don't ask first if you can't summarize what you want to say you should be calling.
Half the Jaeger Program have Newt blocked on their phones.
Hermann list of contacts is so funny he puts emojis on their names to identify even the pizza delivery guy.
Raleigh insists on keeping his old ass phone because he still has Yancy's chat there :((((
The Jaeger pilots have an official group chat only for information that Pentecost manages and no one can write but him, except when he opens it so everyone can reply understood
Then there's the unofficial Jaeger pilots. group chat that Herc cannot open when he's near Pentecost or he'd be unable to stop his laugh in time.
When the rest figure out that Chuck has like two contacts in his phone, it's over. His phone goes from a peaceful creature to the endless buzzing of a group of clowns sending him whatever.
No one complains about the group chat they have to share pics of Max btw.
Mako and Raleigh sometimes text each other in Japanese and they even forget about it so sometimes they do it in the group chats too it's adorable and annoying
There's a viral voice message of Aleksis drunk singing that Aleks doesn't know exists 'cause Sasha kept it a secret. There's a betting poll about who would accidentally mention it in front of Aleksis.
As a general, the Dome is always reminding people to please use their private phones and not the work phones when they flirt text each other please the technicians can read those

Oooh I wonder what might happen in a Pacific Rim AU for Black Sails :^D
Okay, so I'm actually working on a Pacific Rim Au! Its still in the concept doc stage, but I've got a few good scenes that I'm excited about!
5 fun facts:
1) Jack, Anne, and Charles share a Jaeger (in the beginning)
2) joshua/joji in the bg because I cant help myself
3) madi and max get to do sciency things together (newt and hermann style)
4) Silver and Flint's Jaeger is a refurbished (and renamed) version of the Jaeger that Flint once shared with Thomas
5) Mr. Scott =Pentecost becasue why tf not
It was one of the first few fics I considered an au for, and hopefully ill get it done eventually XD

On Raleigh Becket and his anger management problem
There's no two ways about it: Raleigh Becket has anger issues, and he is absolute dogshit at managing his anger. His anger issues subtly manifest early on, when he asks Newt about his Yamarashi tattoo: Raleigh Becket: Who's that, Yamarashi? Newt Geiszler: Oh, this little Kaiju? Yeah, you got a good eye. Raleigh Becket: My brother and I took him down in 2017.
Because Newt hasn't actually said or done anything that could be reasonably construed as insensitive or inappropriate at this point, it would appear that the only reason he even brought it up was so he could flex about his fighting prowess. Newt seems to read this conversation as basically a pissing contest (and one can only imagine how often jaeger pilots get into pissing contests over their kills), and he responds accordingly: "You know he was one of the biggest Category 3s ever? He was 2500 tons of awesome." But Raleigh, who apparently just expected Newt to quail at his initial flex, silences Newt with a look that says I Will Do You Violence:
Tumblr media
Whether Newt's general demeanor got on Raleigh's nerves, or whether the sight of the Yamarashi tattoo dredged up anger over losing Yancy, or some combo of both, Raleigh just... didn't react well. He didn't have to start that conversation at all; he could've just walked to the other side of the elevator and minded his own business. It wasn't like he'd have to speak to Newt after the elevator ride, after all.
Later, when Raleigh asks Mako what she thinks about him as a pilot and gets an answer he doesn't like, he's pretty clearly pissed:
Tumblr media
Since it's Mako, he doesn't react by intimating threat of violence; instead, he goes for condescension, and responds to her like she's a child in need of his benevolent wisdom: Raleigh Becket: Thank you for your honesty. You might be right. But one day, when you're a pilot, you're gonna see that in combat… …you make decisions. And you have to live with the consequences. That's what I'm trying to do.
So the thing here is, Raleigh didn't have to ask for Mako's opinion at all. He'd be piloting Lady Danger regardless of what she personally thought about him. Asking for her opinion was vanity. Asking for her opinion when there was a possibility the answer might piss him off was stupidity. Getting haughty when he didn't like the answer was jackassery. It would've been better to stop at "thank you for your honesty," and then go and do something to calm himself down.
We see Raleigh's anger issue pop up again in the mess hall. Now, Chuck was absolutely antagonizing Raleigh on purpose, and Raleigh does actually try to avoid escalating things - at least at first:
Chuck Hansen: So you're the guy, eh? You're the guy who's gonna run defense for me in that old rust bucket of yours? Raleigh Becket: That's the plan.
But Chuck persists, and Raleigh makes the mistake of going on the defensive:
Chuck Hansen: Good. So when was the last time you jockeyed, Ray? About five years ago. What have you been doing for five years? Something pretty important, I reckon. Raleigh Becket: I was in construction. Chuck Hansen: Oh, wow, that's great. I mean, that's really useful. We get into a fight, you can build our way out of it, eh, Ray? Raleigh Becket: It's Raleigh. Chuck Hansen: Whatever. Look, you're Pentecost's bright idea. And my old man, he seems to like you. But it's guys like you who brought down the Jaeger program. To me you're dead weight. You slow me down. I'm gonna drop you like a sack of Kaiju shit. I'll see you around, Raleigh. Come on, Max.
Raleigh doesn't realize that Chuck's antagonism has nothing to do with him personally, and that Chuck's basically just taking out his frustrations on Raleigh because he's convenient. It's definitely asshole behavior and it's totally inappropriate, and Raleigh is by no means obligated to subject himself to it. The problem is that Raleigh lets his own frustration over it fester inside of him until he actually lashes out in physical violence against Chuck, potentially risking their extremely critical mission. Also, Raleigh was effectively taking it upon himself to deliver corporal punishment on Chuck, which is well-known to be worse than useless. This whole thing also shows that Raleigh's skills in deescalating conflict are pretty much nonexistent. The last notable appearance of Raleigh's anger issues is, I believe, the most insidious. After Pentecost announces that he's grounding Mako, Becket follows him from his office down the hall and roughly grabs his arm to spin him around:
Tumblr media
What's happening here is Raleigh is using physical force because he didn't like being told no. True, he doesn't touch Pentecost after this, but the fact remains that he was behaving aggressively and was physically forcing an unwanted interaction because things weren't going his way. Pentecost gives him a well-deserved dressing down, and Raleigh basically seethes in rage:
Tumblr media
While Raleigh's frustrations are understandable, his entire reaction here is just... hooooo nelly. The guy is basically acting like a spoiled brat over getting told that he can't fight with the pretty lady he's convinced himself he has a special, irreplaceable connection with (as cishet men are often wont to do when a woman shows them basic courtesy).
So yeah, Raleigh's a guy with some serious anger issues, and he is critically lacking in healthy anger management skills. And in my opinion, the movie just doesn't make good use of these flaws. It's not something he has to work on as part of a character development arc (he doesn't really even have a character arc to speak of), and the comedic potential of actual petty banter with Newt, Chuck, or even Mako seems to have been overlooked. I think it's a shame that we never got a movie where either of those happened, because there's just a lot of untapped potential here.

Midnight Mass fanfic that I would read: there's a little Pentecostal church inside an abandoned gas station or something (with a name like Master Of The Wind And Waves Apostolic Communion, LLC) and there's like 7 congregants max, and they spend the climax of the series casting out demons, and they're the only ones who survive

Chance For One Shatterdome Family
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/Bjq6gOL
by Akaior
Honestly, no idea how they did it, with the lowest possibility known, the operation done on pure theory and hope. They not only completed the mission of closing the breach, but to survive it as well. While coming out stronger, better, and closer than before. And for the Marshall to have a chance of actually living longer than medically projected. It may be a rough few years getting the PPDC back on its feet, jaegers filling the bay again, and to train more staff and pilots. But if they survived Operation Pitfall, they could survive this. Hopefully, before the UN tries to take credit for destroying the breach or trying to put the PPDC under its thumb again and the kaiju threat returns. But together with their strange shatterdome family, they’ll succeed.
(Everyone lives damnit because they’re a shatterdome family and they deserve happiness. ) [Kind of starts with the movie]

Credo ou Cristo…
Tumblr media
~ Max Heindel ~

Little pacrim comfort headcanons:
Raleigh photowall travelled with him every time he moved to work on the wall, so in a sense Yancy never left him be truly alone, even without the drift.
Pentecost knew Mako wanted to dye her hair and asked someone he trusted to help Mako with it, so she would end with something she really loved.
Chuck drew and painted the Max emblem on Striker Eureka himself 'cause having Max with him all the time, even at war, made him feel safe.
The jaeger program never liked exposing the pilots like celebrities, so they always kept the media interaction at minimum and never revealed the details of a fallen jaeger to the public.
Which means the jaeger program helped those pilots get out after being injured, even Raleigh. Otherwise Raleigh would have never go back or trust Pentecost.
Many other pilots and officials helped Pentecost learn Japanese so he could communicate with Mako.
Mako remembers the date of almost every Newt kaiju tattoo 'cause he'd play this game where she had to identify it ans if she couldn't, the tattoo artist had to fix it.
Tendo was the first to hug Raleigh when he woke up after Knifehead. He wouldn't leave until he was sure the last of the Beckets was truly alive.
Sasha and Aleksis appeared one day at Pentecost door with the offer to blow up the breach 'cause they were sooo angry. Good thing Pentecost was thinking the same thing.

I was the sound guy for a Megachurch via /r/atheism
I was the sound guy for a Megachurch
A lovely chap on Reddit asked me to tell a story of my time as the sound guy for my old church. I thought ya'll might appreciate my work 🙂
When I was 14 I started learning how to mix at youth church. After the live band, we’d often put on background music, to create a “holy atmosphere”. I put together a playlist of suitable songs – bass, beat, minimal lyrics. Turn down the treble and Childish Gambino is just perfect. Got away with playing songs about drugs and sex for years :P
By 18 I was promoted to main service. State of the art digital mixer. Small church, ~500 people on an average Sunday. I did my job well, but sure had my share of fucking around. There was one terrible BV who’d often be slightly out of time or off pitch – his volume goes up 😊 The annoying “faith healer” scam artist gets a ton of sibilance. One time an annoying preacher was yelling, screaming, then went to mic drop – I muted it, but only after maxing out the volume for a good second, blowing everyone’s eardrums out. I got a couple thanks for muting it.
At 18, I was only there because I had a community around me. I didn't believe a word of it. I went to a sort of Charismatic, Evangelical, Pentecostal church, part of a global Megachurch. In other words, they had a lot of stupid fucking beliefs; not to mention your typical scandals with fraud and sexual abuse. Most notably, they claim to be progressive and inclusive, and are smart enough to publicly keep quiet on any 'controversial' issues (social issues, science, etc), as in my country (New Zealand) openly sharing such these beliefs would be disillusioning to most of your audience (unless that's what you built your audience around...). They spread these beliefs in a far more insidious manner, for example through youth leaders, or panels "debating" these topics.
There was one particular junior pastor at my church. Let's call him Jack. Jack's in his late twenties, influential, sometimes MC'ing or preaching in service. Jack was also my youth group leader - we'd meet with others on a Wednesday and 'hang out', with some time dedicated to talking about God. Through this I came to dislike him and his strong intolerant, anti-scientific beliefs. It's also worth noting, having been born overseas, Jack has a rather unmistakable accent.
One of my good friends was in the same boat as me - disillusioned, and in too deep. Let's call him Mike. Mike often played guitar on band (actually, he's the BV I previously described) and occasionally worked the camera, which would feed the projectors, and record the church service. Mike and I would often hang out, smoke and jam together. One evening, high off our balls, we devised a plan to fuck with Jack.
Over about a month, I recorded Jack's isolated voices whenever he was speaking - at main church and youth church. Most notably, I'd record all of the Wednesday youth group sessions on my phone, and we'd lead him to discuss complex, controversial and explicit topics. I think I had an Iphone 6s. The audio quality was decent - but I'd pop it in Reaper, extract the juicy bits, equalize, compress, etc, to make the quality sound 'perfect'. We had a few hours' worth of recordings, but by the end we cut it down to just a handful of phrases. I remember just the one.
People on stage typically wear monitors, which are basically a wireless pack that receives the audio I transmit, and plays it in their in-ears. They can mute and adjust volume, but we sound-check beforehand to make sure they're happy, and I have full control over the mix. Jack's mix consists of his own mic, secondary speaker mic, with a little live band and audience. (Sidenote - churches use ambient crowd mics to amplify the sound of the audience.) Now, you might think I'm going to play some juicy audio in Jack's in-ears. Kinda.
We'd probably never be allowed alone in the church - but over that month, Mike and I would stay to dabble after most people had left, pretending to test and troubleshoot. With my phone plugged into the digital mixer, effectively I had created a soundboard. We devised how we could play phrases without raising suspicion, and tested it all to ensure the day would be flawless.
Jack was the MC for the busy morning service. Mike kicked back as Cameraman. The Service Coordinator and Technical Director sit in the control booth too, oblivious to our mischief. We wait patiently.
MC intro, 5 minutes. Live band worship, 15 minutes. Continue live background music. MC short sermon, 10 minutes. Guest speaker/offering, 10 minutes minimum. The offering pot is passed around, and Jack gets back up on stage. The kids have been sitting/standing on the floor in the front on the auditorium. MC to send the kids up to kids church, 30 seconds. He says, "Give us an applause for your awesome kids who have been up front with us today. It's time for our kids to head up to kids church!" Mike pans the camera to the cute kids waving toward the audience. The ambient crowd mics pick up the cheers and applause, and Jack visibly recoils as I blast applause in his ears. I cut his mic from the main speakers, and he stares at me, as his lips start moving. Calmly, he says; "Lord, please help me with my masturbation."
The applause quickly stops, and the camera pans back to Jack. He looks down and fiddles with his monitor pack, and resumes by introducing our senior pastor to a stunned audience. He heads back off stage.
Everyone heard it other than himself, and the recordings show it happened. I flew under the radar - nobody ever confronted me about the incident (other than Mike, of course!). I like to think Jack made a bumbling fool of himself, denying what happened and blaming the in-ears. I'd like to think he got in trouble... but he was back on schedule, MC'ing two weeks later.
Tl;dr: Made my pastor say he needed help from God with masturbation while talking about the audience's kids.
