You need to fight your mind every time it tries to convince you that you are: not good enough, criticized, too serious, not interesting, not wanted, excluded, rejected, or laughed at.

Thinking about the time I met Martin Brown, the illustrator for Horrible Histories. He is genuinely one fo the most inspirational artists I've met simply because he gets straight to the point. I went to a talk of his years ago where he demonstrated lots of art techniques like anatomy, designing and turning characters and loads more (one demonstration of which I got to take home signed). I got to talk to him afterwards and told him I wanted to be an artist but how I was scared to start because every time I did I only made mistakes, I cant draw; he sat up in his chair looked at my hands and said well you have hands that work right, you can pick up a pen, you can physically put the pen to the paper and you can make marks, so you can draw. For some reason that unlocked something in my brain that just went oh shit yeah you're right, the mental block I'd had wasn't because I couldn't draw, it was because I was scared I wouldn't progress - in turn not letting me progress.
A year ago I finally started drawing properly, every day, and took an art based A-level to tie me down and keep me going and since then all I've done is progress, I'm no perfect artist but I'm on my way to being better ya know.
I wish I could thank him these days.

Thinkin bout martin brown, the Pig Butcher in HM2. So like, i wanna start by establishing that it's confirmed that midnight animal is real cuz of the posthumous TV interview with martin in the final cutscene of the game (only appears if you choose not to finish the book with evan, but i assume that'd be because the TV station has nothing better to air right then [unless you do finish the book]). The main things i wanna bring up are the dual-interpretations of his psyche and to kinda unravel his death. Not going into any literary parallels between him and other characters tho.
So, martin doesnt get a lot of dialogue, but in a dream he has of an interview, he brings up violent fantasies that he gets to explore through the film, brushing criticism away with the words "it's only a movie", and the general interpretation is that this is an exploration of violent media as a source of catharsis, but i think there's another way you can take it. At the end of the tutorial level, after the cut, the director finishes his tips with "remember to stay in character." I think that scene with the interview is him struggling to reconcile this method acting stuff he's doing, and is a bit of an exploration of ambient violence and the ways it can seep in to one's mind.
As for his death, though, i think i've finally put the pieces together. So, to recap, in the in-game film, a woman the pig butcher kidnapped escapes and calls the cops, and when they arrive, in addition to answering the phone, you can read a bit of the script for the next scene on the table. It details the PB breaking in to the room the woman is guarded in, the guard dying, and the woman getting assaulted by him. The actual events are different. He breaks in just fine, but the woman picks up a prop gun and shoots him 7 times; the rounds included are live. She is unaware of his death, telling him "it's time to get up" after the director tells them they got a perfect cut. I think the script given to martin was fake and the director orchestrated his death to get the perfect shot, which explores both the idea of violent media as catharsis and the pyrrhically escalating nature of violence in the media that we see and seek (a bit more specific than just ambient violence). Sorry this is long but i was just sorta thinkin bout this.

“Você precisa lutar contra sua mente toda vez que ela tentar convencê-lo de que você é: não bom o suficiente, criticado, muito sério, não interessante, não desejado, excluído, rejeitado ou ridicularizado.”
