Do you think Luigi actually has anxiety? Like, I know people portray him as like anxiety riddled or a scaredy-cat and my least favourite, a "coward".

But do you think Luigi actually has anxiety, such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder? Him being scared of most things and maybe even sometimes overthinking a bit too much.

Absolutely.

I'm a long time believer that Luigi has Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and one of the main pieces of evidence I point to is his sleepiness. Fatigue is known to be one of the main symptoms of GAD. Anxiety is exhausting, physically and mentally, and can completely mess up your sleep schedule.

But Luigi also exhibits other symptoms, including…

Being easily startled

Exhibiting strong physical reactions to fear (trembling, twitching, sweating, shortness of breath, etc)

Difficulty regulating emotion

Second-guessing and self doubt

... And, sometimes, (particularly in the Mario and Luigi games), he is shown to be a little messy and inattentive, and you know what’s also a common symptom of GAD?

Difficulty concentrating (thanks in part to the fatigue)

I think he has learned the coping mechanisms necessary to handle his GAD in day to day life, but when it comes to legitimately dangerous situations the triggers can be a little too intense for him, especially if he doesn't have his brother around to keep him grounded. But Luigi is definitely not a coward. Far from it. The fact that he goes out and faces his fears despite his anxiety makes him both insanely brave and highly admirable in my book. A true hero, through and through.

My opinion on the whole "Birdetta" thing

Listen let me preface this by saying I'm a huge lifelong Mario fan, and I'm also a trans woman. I also really like Birdo as a charecter. Imo she's one of my favorite charecters in the entire series and I love her and Vivian for being one of the few trans reps in media as a kid.

That being said, my personal headcanon regarding Yoshis and Birdos are that they're the same species. Much like Hens and Roosters, they look extremely different and most people treat them as different species but they're the same species, just they have extreme differences in appearences. So I always thought Yoshis and Birdos were the same species, just Yoshis were the males of that race and Birdos were the females of that race.

I mean...correct me if I'm wrong but we haven't seen any explicitly Yoshis who are women, or Birdos who are men in the games. So it checks out right? And we haven't seen any Yoshis or Birdos named anything other than well...Yoshi and Birdo respectively. I always thought this was common place in the mushroom kingdom. There are some deviations to this rule though like Gonzalas Jr. From TTYD or any Toad who's name isn't Toad.

So I always thought the main Birdo in the Mario series...the one in Mario 2 and who's playeble in the spinoffs. Was originally named "Yoshi" and now is Birdo. With Birdetta being a possible nickname.

As for the Mario 2 manual it could possibly be a mistranslation...they mixed up Ostro and Birdo's names after all. Or it could be a case of early instalment weirdness with her name. There's so much weird stuff in earlier instruction manuals that don't appear in the games so it could possibly be non canon at this point.

Another thing I would like to point out- is that Birdo's description in the Mario 2 manual is clearly a transphobic joke. It is meant to mock trans people. Birdo has become a genuine good and genuine peice of trans representation since then of course. But it still irks me that people are treating a transphobic, poorly translated blurb in a game released so early in the series as canon gospel over the last 20+ years of her being playeble in Mario games, it's annoying.

And besides I...don't think that Birdo's friends and boyfriend Yoshi would dead name her regularly. Plus it's not a pleasent thought to think Mario and his friends would dead name birdo for 20+ years.

So yeah I just wanted to put this out here. You can headcanon whatever you want in a peice of media, if you headcanon Birdo as Birdetta you do you. But you don't have to spam any post that even remotely mentions Birdo and make people adopt your headcanon about her. Just as you don't have to adopt my headcanon about Yoshi's and Birdos being the same species.

The more I think about Mario being transmasc, the more I’m getting some dumb small ideas.

Like imagine him saying he needs a new name but needs something he’ll be sure to remember, only for Luigi to jokingly say he should call himself “Mario” that way he wouldn’t forget (since it’s their last name), and Mario immediately goes “Luigi you’re a genius !”, taking the suggestion 100% seriously.

Or Mario being hesitant to bring it up with Pauline because that’s his lesbian gf and he likes being with her but Luigi reminds him that he can’t spend the rest of his life lying to himself just for this relationship, plus there could be other small issues that made Mario and Pauline consider that maybe they’re better off as friends. In the end, Pauline is very accepting and the two remain close friends; also Pauline would probably support Mario throughout his transition, while Mario would start playing wingman for her if anybody new catches her eye.

Also, before Mario came out, Pauline going around with what she thinks to be her cool small chubby butch gf. <3

And going back to Mario figuring himself out, him starting to cut his hair and halfway through grabbing a razor he decides to ask for Luigi’s help before he does something stupid with his hair. Luigi puts that razor down and cuts + helps styling Mario’s hair like his. On that note, Luigi teaching Mario how to groom his eventual mustache.

Sometime after going into the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario realizing he needs HRT and awkwardly tries to bring it up to Peach. Cue Mario discovering how gender works with Toads (and being low-key relieved how easy getting HRT will be as a result).

Also when Mario brings it up to Peach she’s like “oh so humans are like Koopas !” (note that I see Peach as a Toad whose appearance is due to her gem + Toads have no concept of male or female, hence humans being closer to Koopas in that regard).

Cue a similar talk later on about the differences when it comes to reproduction with Mario being very awkward talking about it and using the first opportunity when Peach brings up Koopas to say “yes, exactly like Koopas !” happy he doesn’t have to explain further.

Also also the first time they meet Daisy and the topic of dating comes up Mario says he has an ex who he broke up with because she only likes girls, awkwardly hinting that he’s trans. Cue Daisy gushing about how she went through the same path of discovering who you are in early adulthood rather than teenagerhood (Prince Haru's design is Daisy before transitioning, I mean come on).

Not sure what his deadname would be but for this one I really want to go with “completely different and unrelated name”. And yeah I guess it could fit for him to have an “M” already and change its significance, but at the same time I could definitely see him have a different letter and when he comes out one of his parents make a new hat with an “M” on it, something along those lines.

Toadsworth fought for King Toadstool in much the same way Mario fights for Peach. His role in taking care of Peach and guiding the Mario Brothers in combat are his way of helping to defend his kingdom, even in old age.

I like to think that the heavier koopa shells that made the koopas quadrupedal in the older games were at first seen as highly advanced armor technology that was highly advantageous to Bowser's first invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom.

(We know from Yoshi's island prequels the bipedal shells are older)

But then Mario's jumping made them obsolete and nullified all advantages, leaving only the disadvantages of a quadrupedal gait, causing them to go back to the cheaper armor eventually.

Idea:

Mario only needed to be around Princess Peach for a few minutes before he realized he liked her. In fact, the more time he spends with her, the more he likes her, every moment making him more and more endeared to her.

But the moment Mario realizes he's fallen deeply, irrevocably in love is after he accidentally stumbles upon Peach helping Luigi come down from an anxiety attack.

I was rolling around this post in my brain, considering the manhole cover-shield scene and I had this...thought about a fun, semi-angsty off-screen scenario after the general hullabaloo from Bowser's incursion into Brooklyn has calmed down.

We know from the movie that Mario is injured during the final fight with Bowser, that he had a plethora of cuts and nasty bruises that would need attention. We also know from the movie that Luigi, our unhinged king, picked up a metal manhole cover to block fire.

Basic science would tell us that this manhole cover likely reached some excruciating temperatures rather quickly, and that Luigi's gloves/outfit (which, considering their junked-up van), were probably not the highest quality. Meaning, I have a feeling our green hero might have accumulated a few burn injuries and, given what we know about his character, might have neglected to say anything about this.

Anyway, cue Mario and Luigi getting ready for bed after the whole crazy day, and Luigi, who is so tired he isn't even thinking about what he's doing at this point, absently changing into his sleeping shirt. That's when Mario notices the burn marks. That's when Mario freaks out like the highly protective older brother he is.
