"We love you—I love you—because you’re mine. Because being around you is like being around the sun. Because seeing you happy makes me happy, and seeing you sad makes me want to do anything I have to to get that look off your face." - Mariana Zapata

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
✩🏞️🎶Review: I think it is safe to say that I am addicted to Zapata slow burns. “All Rhodes Lead Here” is the third book that I have read by Mariana Zapata and I LOVED it so much!!  I really enjoyed exploring the wilderness through Aurora’s perspective. The hikes that she took through Pagosa Springs were so descriptive and the beautiful imagery made me feel as though I was venturing through the forest with her. I totally understand why Rhodes chose to be a fish and game warden in that area, which is a pretty cool job occupation if I might add. Another aspect I loved about the book was the relationship development between Aurora and Rhodes. The two start out as strangers, Aurora being Rhodes’ tenant, and become friends over time. When the pair begin to feel attraction for one another near the end of the novel, Rhodes does not rush anything. I think that this is so important considering Aurora experiences a lot of trauma stemming from her previous relationship. Rhodes gave Aurora the space she needed to figure out what she wanted. At the same time, he was only a call away she ever needed a bear hug, emphasizing the importance of strong support systems.  Rhodes, as a character, is just a big sweetheart. I love how protective he is of Aurora. When Aurora got lost on one of the trails, he abandoned his post to search for her, later taking care of her injuries when they returned home.  Rhodes’ love for his son is unmatched. He did not have to be present in Amos’ life (Rhodes served as a sperm donor for his best friend and his wife) but CHOSE to be involved anyway. He CHOSE not to re-enlist, even though he found joy in serving his country, so that he did not have to miss out on any of his son’s “first times.” Amos’ family may be unconventional (with three parents and all), but he is loved nonetheless. The representation of nontraditional families in literature is so important and I appreciate Zapata making that a highlight of this book.

Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres (1563-1635) died on January 16, 1635, shortly after the last apparition of Our Lady of Good Success. She was a Spanish Conceptionist sister. When her tomb was reopened in 1906, her body was found to be incorrupt. The Archdiocese of Quito opened her cause for canonization in 1984 and finished the diocesan stage of the process in 1997.
Our Lady of Good Success told Mother Mariana that She wanted to be known and loved throughout the world, and that the devotion would begin to spread only in the 20th century. She reserved this devotion for these times because the Church would be so embattled and suffering that only the divine power and love of the Blessed Virgin would sustain the faithful.
In 1582, when Mother Mariana was praying before the Blessed Sacrament, for the first time she was given to see the heresy, blasphemy and impurity that would inundate the world as punishment in the 20th century. Our Lady asked her: “My daughter, will you sacrifice yourself for the people of this time?” Mother Mariana replied, “I am willing.”

Our Lady of Good Success
Feast day: February 2
Our Lady of Good Success is one of the titles of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This title is shared among numerous images around the world, a number of images in Spain, one in Quito, Ecuador, and one in Paranaque City, Philippines. In Ecuador and Spain, the feast day of Our Lady of Good Success is celebrated on February 2, the day she appeared to Mother Mariana de Jésus Torres along with the archangels and St. Francis of Assisi (thus coinciding with the Feast of the Purification).

Gusto kitang isayaw nag mabagal
(I want to dance with you, slowly)

Gusto kitang isayaw nag mabagal
(I want to dance with you, slowly)
Cellbit & Roier - Ride home, Ben&Ben, 2017 (X)
So many questions, I’ve thrown to the skies

Fit & Pac - Waltz of Four Left Feet, Shirebound and Busking, 2019 (X)
Hindi ko yata tanggap ang buhay
(I don’t think I can accept a life)
(Where I can’t hold your hand)
Handa 'kong harapin ka, walang katiyakan
(I’m prepared to face you without knowing the possibitly)
Kahit na takot sa maaring kasagutan
(Even if I’m scared of what your answer may be)
Tubbo & Fred - tyl, Kakie, 2019 (X)
Maybe I was afraid I would lose you painfully
But you’d tell me everyday otherwise, so in time I believed
Maybe your promises downed out all those other noise
Convinced me we’d last forever, we were crazy true young lovers (or were we?)
Slime & Mariana - ERE, Juan Karlos, 2023 (X)
Hm, 'di ba? Nakakaputang ina
(Oh, what now? Motherfucker-)
Tayo'y lumilipad, at ako'y iniwan mo
(We took off together, and you’ve left me)
Oh, 'di ba? Pinagmukha mo 'kong tanga
(Oh, what else? You’ve made me look like an idiot.)
Tayo'y lumilipad, at ako'y iniwan mo sa ere, ere, ere
(We took off together, and you left me in the air, air, air)
Slime & Codeflippa - Everything but Mine, Schronoa, 2023 (X)
You tell me that you’re lucky and I wish I knew
What that felt like too, but I know that I am lucky with you
Still I know I cannot even dare to think about it here
There’s no place for me to care, you are everything but mine
Quackity - Asan Ka Na Ba, Zack Tabudlo, 2022 (X)
Magtitiwala ba sa sinasabing tadhana?
(Will I really believe in those who say “destiny”)
Pa'no ba naman maniniwala?
(How can I even believe in it)
Kung kahit sa'n tumingin
(If no matter where I look)
Ang daming nahuhulog sa isa't isa
(So many people are falling for each other)
Ba't sa'kin ay wala?
(Why not [for] me?)

Blessed Bartolo Longo
Blessed Bartolo Longo was born on February 10, 1841 in Latiano, Italy to a wealthy and devout Catholic family. In 1951 when his mother died he became estranged from the Catholic Church. When he went away to university to study law he fell in with Satanists eventually being ordained a Satanic priest. "He participated in séances, fortunetelling and orgies." The more he experimented in the occult the more Bartolo became depressed. "His life was marked with extreme depression, paranoia, hatred, confusion and nervousness." In his darkest moments Bartolo experienced visions of his deceased father begging him to return to God. Bartolo sought the help of Professor Vincenzo Pepe who convinced him to abandon Satanism. Professor Pepe introduced him to a Dominican priest by the name of Fr. Alberto Radente who heard Bartolo's confession and brought him back to the church. One day he had a mystical experience... having pondered his condition he felt a deep despair come over him and almost committing suicide. Bartolo at that moment remembered the words of Fr. Alberto Radente that if he sough salvation to promulgate the Rosary. A promise made by the Virgin Mary to those who recite the Rosary devoutly. On March 25, 1871, Longo became a Third Order Dominican and took the name Br. Rosario in honor of the Rosary. Bartolo married a wealthy widow named Countess Mariana di Fusco. The two founded a confraternity of the Rosary. Bartolo died on October 5, 1926 in Torre Annunziata, Italy. Pope St. John Paul II beatified him on October 26, 1980 calling him the "Apostle of the Rosary.

No encierres a mis primas, no prives a tus sobrinas.
Mamita, no llores mis cenizas.
Perché possano vivere senza paura, mamma, proprio come ho vissuto io.
