I know this is not new information, but I've seen a fresh wave of people confused about what the fuck Andrew planned to do as a 5'0 man with a knife against the literal mafia, so.
I think the fact that neither Neil nor Kevin lost their faith in Andrew’s ability to protect them after he was attacked by Drake (unable to stand his ground against a single man with a bottle, let alone the Yakuza/Nathan with their guns) is the best proof we have that the deal was never about physical protection. This is confirmed by the way Neil never expects Andrew to save him from his father, in fact cuts him loose before Baltimore as soon as danger is truly near.
Andrew is a pretty self-aware character, and he wouldn't make promises he knows he can't possibly see through, so I think he knows what Kevin and Neil also know: what they need from him, and thus what he promises, is not physical protection.
To Kevin, he promises safety from the Moriyamas, and the way we see him enact that safety (at Kathy's show, at the banquet) shows exactly what it's about: when Riko starts getting into your head, when he makes you doubt yourself, makes you think maybe you should go back to Evermore, I won't let you. I will get you away from him, I will treat him like he's just some dude to remind you that you can face him without kneeling. I will be your spine until you find your own, I will stand my ground for you until you can do it yourself.
That's why the scene when Kevin gets to the dorm with his tattoo and Andrew's eyes show so much feeling is huge not just for Kevin but for Andrew: because that was the whole point of their deal, Kevin has found his spine, Andrew bought him the space and time to do it.
To Neil, he promises safety from the people hunting him down, and that means: I will give you something to build a life around (keys, drives to nightly exy practices, someone to lean on, someone who will listen without flinching). When you feel like running, I will be someone you can call to come pick you up. When you forget, I will remind you who you are: Neil Abram Josten.
Andrew stands between Kevin and Riko and between Neil and his father not as an impenetrable wall but as an obstacle in their vision: not shield but focal point.
(Makes me think of that scene in The Haunting of Hill House, Hugh holding Steven's neck to keep him from looking at the ghosts, saying, Look at me, just look at me, keep your eyes on me. That's what Andrew’s constantly doing --even literally, when Kevin is spiralling after Wymack tells the team about the district change and Andrew makes him look away from his broken hand and up at him).

i can't get my mind off of kaeya's hangout. kaeya's unending thoughtfulness and kindness. kaeya thinking of everyone from back home while he was away, missing them and going out of his way to get all of them personalized gifts. kaeya missing his family and them missing him even more. kaeya directly quoting shakespeare and thus pleasing my classic lit enthusiast self. adelinde answering the long debated question of which ragnvindr sibling was a little menace and which was the one following said menace in every step (turns out i was right amongst many who thought the same). kaeya most certainly knowing of venti's identity and venti struggling to keep his act up around him. kaeya getting albedo and klee matching gifts, a set, further emphasizing their great found family bond and his own belonging to it. crepus indulging in kaeya's shenanigans and making him his own semi-alcoholic drink as a treat. kaeya playing all the characters (the bandit, the prince...) without needing to stay in character, for it is he himself that speaks from them. adelinde knowing exactly how kaeya likes his food. kaeya - unable to get diluc's name out of his mouth - alberich. my personal headcanon of kaeya being fond of birds (enjoying birdwatching and singing to them) proving to be true. diona wanting to curse every drunkard with anemo archon's wrath not knowing that her beloved archon is a drunkard himself. kaeya's endearing and genuine love for people and being around them. the foreshadowing for kaeya's own story in the play he acted in and him admitting it resonates with him deeply, thus explaining why he knows it by heart. kaeya canonically embodying his nickname 'prince charming' and serving as an eye candy for many. kaeya's wish to rid himself of the shackles of fate, to rise above it and challenge his destiny. kaeya proudly stating his connection to diluc and crepus, without batting an eye. adelinde reminding him that he has always been one of their own, and that he always shall be. kaeya dancing the night away in a land far from home and having genuine fun. hoyoverse giving us a jeanlisa, kaebedo and kaejean moment all in the same scene. kaeya's and klee's shared childlike wonder and mutual understanding. kaeya revealing the secret behind the coin he constantly plays with. diluc memorizing every lie and excuse of kaeya's that he uses to spend time and indulge in pleasure in his rightful home. kaeya subtly implying that he only acts part-time currently (if you understand what i'm hinting at). the ending 'the grapes of warmth' being a reference to steinbeck's 'the grapes of wrath', once again pleasing my nerdy ass. diluc being protective over his staff and dawn winery family. kaeya being a typical younger sibling and taking every chance to tease the older one. venti sneezing around diona. klee's misunderstanding of the events surrounding kaeya making the situation twice as wholesome. kaeya, once more, doing everything in his power to help jean and make her work life easier. kaeya knowing the schedule of the winery staff members and diluc despite not being around as much. diluc willing to openly display another one of kaeya's gifts inside the winery. adelinde serving us a ragbros childhood story along with a nice, home-cooked meal each time we meet her. kaeya being a beloved son not only to his adoptive father, but to many. diluc's staff trying to cover for his darknight hero vigilante persona as if kaeya doesn't know about it. kaeya helping out the people in need, out of the good of his heart, no questions asked and not needing anything in return. the ragbros nation predicting plenty of scenarios, one of them being grape picking that, as it turns out, kaeya indeed participated in. venti writing kaeya a personalized poem, once again accepting him as a child of mondstadt.

Thinkin about Pebbles and Moon's relationship with their cities former inhabitants.....
Pebbles is often characterized as cold as uncaring and Moon is often characterized as warm and kind, and that's not without reason as that's pretty reflective of the way they behave towards the slugcats, but that seems to very much not be the case when it comes to their relationships with their cities former inhabitants. Moon says that "none of us really miss the times when their cities were populated" and compares her city's inhabitants to "skin parasites that also ask for advice and have opinions"
Pebbles on the other hand..... part of the reason he tolerates Artificer (aside from her killing the scavengers that have taken up residence in his city) is bc she's technically a citizen. As his systems start to shut down he comforts himself with a pearl containing a hymn created by the former citizens of his city. To me at least that seems to imply that Moon's statement that "none of us really miss the times when their cities were populated" may not be entirely accurate, that Pebbles held at least some level of affection towards his citizens, that he does miss them.
And if that's the case, that would have made them effectively abandoning him via mass ascension hurt Pebbles just that much more.

the fact that utena’s hair is pink is so fascinating to me because normally pink cartoon girls are in some way defined by their femininity, whether their performance of it is sincere or feigned. princess bubblegum, for example, is a character whose relationship to her role is inextricable from her relationship to her femininity, and the pinkness of her entire being (not only her hair but also her skin and usually her clothes) signifies that facade of femininity that is gradually complicated throughout the show (and also she is simply the greatest character of all time, but I digress). utena, however, does not perform femininity, but in fact masculinity. she only embodies more feminine inhabitations under duress, and it is clear that it is never her preferred mode, but rather a restrictive mode being forced upon her. and yet, her masculine presentation/inhabitation conflicts with her pink hair, which we automatically register as a signifier of utmost femininity.
however, I suggest that instead of reading utena’s hair as pink, we should instead read it as a combination of white and red. pink is, in many ways, a more diluted version of red. diluted by the color white. white being the color of the prince, the color dios and every member of the student council (save for nanami) wears. red is the color of roses, blood, sex, and violence. akio’s car is red, as are his clothes, and anthy’s rose bride dress. during moments of abject violence, red and black become the dominant colors on screen, the colors of utena’s school uniform as well as akio’s every day outfit. and touga, of course, has red hair. not red as in orange in the sense that juri could be called a redhead, but pure, vibrant, blood red. touga’s hair indicates his relationship to sexual violence, not only in terms of its color, but also its length. and like touga, utena is also a victim of grooming and sexual abuse. but unlike touga, it is not the thing that defines her identity.
her hair is pale red, mixed with the white of dios. her identity is one of striving for the ideal of princehood. and yet it is not white, but pink, muddied by the violence she must endure and implicitly exert to attain that ideal. the godlike perfection of the prince is inextricable from the abuse necessary to undergird it. if touga’s hair and outfit illustrate that through the stark contrast of red and white, utena’s hair color illustrates it through the combination of both those aspects mixed up in one person. to have pink hair is to have noble intentions problematized by an exploitative system. and the fact that we, as the audience, automatically associate pink with girlishness illustrates that point via our gut reaction to undermine her masculinity by pointing out, “but she has pink hair!!!” her identity is constantly being complicated by external factors, such as society’s judgments of a girl who wants to be a prince, or the hollow promise of what princehood even means in the first place.

“Nothing’s changed.”
God I just. So many thoughts about Vax’s moments in episode four and the beginning of five.
The cutting of the thread that tethered him to Vex, and the Matron binding it to herself, a bright vivid link in his vision in the end of the episode. The vision of Vex reminded Vax that death is out of their hands, pulling from the opening moment of the episode (which features Vax as the one to end the mother’s suffering I might point out); one of the important themes of the campaign is that death is neither a good or bad thing, it’s truly natural and a part of life and is unavoidable. The foreshadowing of that crazy vision of the temple doors, and I’m feeling it’s pointing towards Vax confronting the Matron at Raven’s Crest.
And don’t get me started on Vax seeing his own corpse REPEATEDLY. It’s haunting him, but in order to move forward, he needs to learn to live and fight. His fate may be tethered now to the Matron herself, but that doesn’t mean he has to be afraid of death.
But maybe. He’s already dead, and he just doesn’t know it yet.
It hurts so much how the split-second, selfless decision of “take me instead you raven bitch,” is not just life altering for Vax, but it has so many threads throughout the campaign (this and the others too) that come back RECOGNIZABLY to that single moment.
“Nothing’s changed.”
“Everything’s changed.”

it’s all fun and games until we get a moment in season 2 where ed and stede are healing together and ed genuinely smiles for the first time in a while and stede looks at him with so much awe and so much fondness and whispers “smiles look so beautiful on you” or something equivalent
