THE HORROR IN THE MUSEUM AND OTHER REVISIONS by H.P. Lovecraft. (Sauk City: Arkham House, 1989). Introduction by August Derleth, text edits by S.T. Joshi. Cover illustration by Raymond Bayless.
From the dustwrapper:
FOLLOWING S.T. Joshi’s acclaimed three-volume critical edition of the Lovecraft fiction, this final supplementary collection includes all known revisions and collaborations undertaken by Lovecraft on behalf of his friends and clients. As with previous volumes in this series, the texts preserved herein scrupulously follow archival manuscripts, typescripts, or original publications, and constitute the definitive edition of these stories.
Since Lovecraft’s customary procedure as a revisionist was to discard his client’s draft and entirely rewrite the story in his own words, much of the fiction in this collection represents original work by Lovecraft, including such notable contributions to the Cthulhu Mythos as “The Electric Executioner,” “Out of the Aeons,” and “The Diary of Alonzo Typer.” Supreme among the revisions in this volume is the brilliant nouvelle “The Mound,” which embodies Lovecraft’s satirical commentary on the Machine Age “decadence” of his era and which receives its first unabridged publication in the present edition.’

writing meme
tagged by @amillionsmiles (thanks friend!! ^.^)
1. How many works do you currently have in progress?
In terms of original works I have a wlw novel I’m slowly working on, a supernatural/urban fantasy novella, a collection of poetry on sex, identity, and coming out, and a few scattered ideas and concepts I might return to later.
In terms of fanfiction, a hell of a lot ^^; I’ve got a lot of unfinished fics I need to come back to, but the priority right now is finishing commissions, finishing my piece for Adrino month, and finishing my Chlonette fic feed your focus.
2) Do you/would you write fanfiction?
I’ve sold my soul to fanfiction at this point
3) Do you prefer paper books or ebooks?
Paper books just because I like being able to write in them, like to underline passages and write notes and things. But ebooks tend to be cheaper so sometimes I have to settle. Paper books are a treat to myself.
4) When did you start writing?
God, since I can remember. In first grade we had writer’s notebooks that we had to write in once every night to practice our handwriting and our grammar. I used to go through like five of them a year because I wrote so much -- mostly stories and poems. My mom had to start buying me personal notebooks for all of the stories I used to write. Although, it wasn’t until my (I think 9th grade??) teacher told me I should continue to pursue writing because I was good that I started taking it much more seriously.
5) Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with?
All my close Discord friends for sure. We have our own writing servers that are just for sharing work and workshopping/critiquing it. Most of my friends in real life aren’t avid writers/readers and I only show them my stuff sparingly if I think the subject matter will interest them. So thank goodness for online friends!
6) Where is your favorite place to write?
In public spaces, like parks and coffee shops and things like that. It’s weird just being around people without actually paying attention to them inspires me. I also like the busyness and the noise -- it tends to fade in the background when I’m working and help me concentrate. Worst place for me to write is in complete silence with no one around.
7) Favorite childhood book
The Chronicles of Narnia series I think I read, in full, about four times as a kid. My mom read me one chapter of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe before bed every night when I was like four and then once I was really good at reading, I just ate up the entire series. I also remember reading The Phantom Tollbooth a lot too just because it was so fantastical and absurd.
8) Writing for fun or writing for publication?
Haha, that’s a complicated question. Ideally, writing for publication just because I’ve committed myself to working until my writing is printed in a book that people can hold in their hands and keep on their shelves. Most of my original writing is writing that I do want to publish one day because I want my writing to speak to and inspire other people. The thing with writing for publication is that marketing your manuscripts is part of the challenge and I always wonder whether texts about queer girls and brown people are things that people would want to publish. So then it’s an exercise deciding what kinds of compromises do you want to make on your writing for the sake of getting it published. How you imagined it isn’t how it’s going to look in print which is an emotional process.
But writing for fun is a good way to just practice and enjoy myself. I write because I like doing it not because I only want to get published. Fanfiction is another way of playing around with ideas while having the crutch of an established universe and established characters to help springboard you into new ideas. One of my fics has become a test run of sorts for a novel I want to write, and that wouldn’t have happened had it not been for writing for fun.
9) Pen and paper or computer?
Computer, although I’m waiting for the day when I have enough money to afford a professional writing program that’ll make writing longer novels and works much easier and more organized. I’m also just a faster typer and it’s easier to keep up with my thoughts if I’m typing them rather than writing them down. Easier on your hands too.
10) Have you ever taken any writing classes?
Yup! Took fiction and poetry workshops while I was in college, which were so fun and so helpful. Getting my writing critiqued by twenty other students was such a great way to pick up on mistakes and weaknesses of mine.
11) What inspires you to write?
Strange answer, but myself. And when I say that I mean that I’ve gone through a lot in life and there are a lot of things about myself that have made life difficult for me (being brown, being broke, being a woman, being queer, being in predominantly white schools almost all my life). Writing was always a form of catharsis for me -- it was a way of telling my story, organizing my thoughts, learning to voice who I was when so many people tried to make me feel bad for it or tell me to hide it. So when I feel pain, when I cry, when I’m happy, when I’m angry, that inspires me to write.
The people I meet and see everyday also inspire me. My writing has modern backdrops and stories centered on relationships between people because the culture I’ve been seeped in for years is rich with so much complexity. People’s lives are so freaking interesting, even if they don’t themselves think so, and there’s nothing that I love more than thinking up some complicated, impossible relationship between two people and going, “damn, I can write a book about this.”

Queen of Werewolves – The Lost Princess of Howling Sky Book 3
Once Soulmates – These Immortal Vows Book 3
Another week down!
I’m the kind of person who is constantly looking for ways to be more efficient in what I do. I want to write books faster, with great quality, while always improving my craft. Basically, I want to get better with every book. Getting “better” is a thing that happen naturally. The more we do something, the more proficient we become. As for speed, that’s a different story.
Even a fast typer can only type so fast, so I’ve played with dictating. I now have a love and hate relationship with it.
Typing a first draft ensures I have a pretty clean manuscript to work with when I’m done. Dictating means I have to go through everything I’ve dictated before I can call it a proper first draft. Is it faster, more efficient? I’m still trying to figure that out.
Dictating definitely means I get out more words during a session, but they are messy words. Then again, I got more words done for Once Soulmates this week because I dictated for one writing session. We’ll see how I do the following week with more dictation, and then maybe I’ll be able to answer that question.
Queen of Werewolves – The Lost Princess of Howling Sky Book 3
I’m still lagging on my word count here. I think it’s because I have a million things I need to do for my author platform that I’ve been avoiding, so I’m going to give that a little more time. Lower word counts are to be expected until then.
That said, I got in 14,640 words this week. A big scene I’m terrified of is coming up fast. That might be another reason why my word count is lower than I wanted.
We’ll see how next week goes.
Once I take care of all of that stuff I’ve been avoiding, I’m hoping I’ll be more consistent. By the end of this year, I want consistency in production and releases. It must be obtained in a healthy, sustainable way, though.
If all goes well, 2020 will be the first year where I’m doing this writing thing for the long haul.
What I’ve been doing so far will ensure I die before the age of thirty.
It’s gotta stop.
Once Soulmates – These Immortal Vows Book 3
As I said earlier, one of my writing sessions for Once Soulmates was done by dictating. I got out 1,200ish words in 25 mins of telling this story out loud to myself. Because of that, I got 3,419 words done for the first draft this week. That’s more words than last week!
(Note: I’m only counting the words when I’ve gone through the dictated material so it is presentable as a first draft.)
This book is coming along steadily. Slowly, but steadily.
Conclusion
This week was decent in terms of productivity. I’ll talk more about that stuff I’ve been avoiding when I get it done. Or something. Until I have some insight to share at least.
I hope your week was good! Tell me what you did to take another step toward your goals.

New Post has been published on http://www.lifehacker.guru/journaling-showdown-writing-vs-typing/
Journaling Showdown: Writing Vs. Typing
Jack London said every writer should keep a notebook. “Travel with it, eat with it, sleep with it,” London said. “Lead pencil markings endure longer than memory.” It’s sage advice, but then again, Jack London didn’t have Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or OneNote. This week, we test the classic battle of man versus machine to see which is better for journaling.
The Contenders
There are a number of useful benefits to keeping a journal. Journaling can help you process emotions, harness creativity, and keep track of events and moments. And there are two basic methods for journaling:
Writing by hand: You know how this works. You take a pen or a pencil, put it to paper, then write down your thoughts, opinions, feelings. A physical journal gives you something tangible to work with and there’s something gratifying about the feel of a paper notebook. Beyond that, though, writing stimulates and engages your brain better, making it easier to retain information. Some argue that writing by hand is a more raw, authentic experience.
Typing: Whether you journal using Google Docs, Microsoft Word, OneNote, WordPress, Tumblr or any other medium, the act is obviously the same: you use your keyboard to get the thoughts out of your head and onto the screen. Fans of typing argue that it’s more convenient and, aside from the romanticized notion of longhand, the end product is the same.
Both options have their advantages. When you write with pen and paper, you have something tangible to give your kids someday. You don’t have to worry about getting hacked, either. However, when you type, you can create backups of your journal and, using the right tools, you can access your journal from anywhere. Plus, it’s easier to search for specific entries. Beyond the basics, let’s take a look at both options.
Writing by Hand Forces You to Slow Down
The biggest complaint about journaling by hand is it’s inconvenient. Writing isn’t exactly hard, but it’s so much easier to type, especially considering most of us spend 10 hours a day in front of a screen anyway. Plus, most of us are faster typers than writers, so journaling by hand might take a bit more time and effort.
Writing forces you to slow down, but that might not be a bad thing. One Yale psychologist told the New York Times: “With handwriting, the very act of putting it down forces you to focus on what’s important.” Citing a study published in Developmental Neuropsychology, the Times reported:
printing, cursive writing, and typing on a keyboard are all associated with distinct and separate brain patterns — and each results in a distinct end product. When the children composed text by hand, they not only consistently produced more words more quickly than they did on a keyboard, but expressed more ideas
A writing by hand requires more subtle and complicated motion from your fingers than typing, it actually increases activity in the brain’s motor cortex, an effect that’s similar to meditation. This explains why journaling can feel therapeutic and why it helps with mindfulness.
On the other hand, sometimes that inconvenience can be, well, inconvenient. I have a bad habit of scribbling half-assed, messy entries into my journal just to get the task over with. One might argue, however, that I’m defeating the purpose and that’s not really journaling at all. But then I guess it depends on your purpose.
If you’re doing it to be more mindful and focused, then it’s important to allow yourself to slow down and take the time to journal by hand. If you’re just trying to keep track of your work progress, activities, or eating habits, that may be another story.
Typing Makes It Easier to Stick With the Habit
Writing by hand stimulates certain parts of your brain, yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to be creative or come up with ideas when you type. Plenty of great writers type their manuscripts, after all. Sure, there are more distractions on the computer, but it’s easy enough to block out those distractions so you can focus on the screen.
Convenience is the main benefit of typing, and in my own experience, I was a lot more likely to stick to the habit and pump out more words when I tried keeping a journal via Google Docs. I could also type faster, so my writing was more stream of consciousness. Rather than stop to think about how I felt or thought, I wrote through my emotions, which I actually found useful because I could visualize my thoughts on screen almost immediately. In other words writing forces you to process the information as you go, but when you type, you can skip that process if you’re proficient at typing. Also, because it was more convenient, I found myself more likely to stick with the journaling habit when I typed.
I noticed something interesting, though. When I was having a particularly stressful day or just feeling down, I actually felt more relieved after I journaled by hand than I did when I typed. I understood my emotions better when I typed, but I felt more cathartic and even happier when I wrote by hand. That might be because I associate typing so much with work and writing by hand feels less like work. There’s also research to explain why this might have happened.
In a University of Iowa study, subjects felt more positive about traumatic experiences after they journaled them, but it had everything to do with how they journaled. The key was to focus on their thoughts and feelings, not just emotions. This makes sense. When I write by hand, focusing on thoughts and feelings comes naturally because I have to stop and think about how I feel. As I said, when I type, I skipped that process. Again, this isn’t to say it’s impossible to focus on your feelings when you type—it just comes more naturally when you write.
The Verdict: Write by Hand to Get the Full Benefit of Journaling
So which method is best? It might depend on why you’re keeping a journal in the first place. If you’re just journaling to keep a record of information, typing is probably your easiest and best bet. It’s faster, it’s easier, and you’re presumably on the computer anyway, so you’re more likely to stick with the habit.
However, if you’re journaling to be more mindful, generate ideas, or work through some feelings, handwriting will probably make those tasks easier. And there’s no reason you can’t do both, either. They both serve different purposes, so why not type when you need to keep a record of info or just practice the habit, then journal when you want to slow down and focus on other things? For the full reward of journaling, though, including all those mental health benefits, writing might be the way to go.
