What is SAT?
SAT is a standardized exam that tests high school students for their knowledge in areas of reading, analytical skills and mathematical prowes. International students applying for admission abroad for undergraduate courses have to appear for the SAT entrance exam and submit their scores to selected universities. SAT exam is digital and is conducted seven times a year, across 30 Indian cities with centers in its 50+ partnering institutions.
The SAT exam duration is around 2 hours and 14 minutes long plus, students have the option to take the SAT exam on their personal laptops.
1. The SAT Digital exam is one hour less in duration than the older one, and students are allowed to carry their laptops or iPads to take the SAT Digital exam at the test centre.
2. International students, taking the test from outside the US appeared for the first Digital SAT Exam in March 2023. The US-based students would be able to take the SAT Digital Exam from 2024 onwards.
3. There are two sections on the SAT - reading + writing and mathematics, each section is for 400-800 marks.
4. Overall, the SAT exam is scored on a total of 1600 marks. SAT scores are consolidated, that is, they are based on marks per section and once the section-wise marks are calculated the total scores are released.
5. SAT exam cutoffs vary per university of application. While some universities publish SAT cutoffs for admission course-wise, there are others that do not.
6. There is no average cutoff that can assess if an applicant can get through college admissions abroad or not.
7. Results of SATs are released in a span of 10-14 days from the date of the SAT exam taken.
8. Applicants willing to appear for the SAT can register for the SAT on the College Board website choose their test date and centre and submit applications.
Despite universities becoming test-optional, SAT test takers have gone up to 1.7 million in 2022 in comparison to 1.5 million in the year 2021. Thus, there are students who still wish to submit their SAT scores in order to prove their skills through this standardised test in their admission application to guarantee a better picture of themselves. Usually, high school students take the SAT exam based on the intake they wish to apply to. Check out Everything About SAT Exam US universities accept both SAT scores and ACT scores as part of admission requirements for UG course admissions. Most of the colleges in the US accept either SATs or American College Testing (ACT) for admissions to their undergraduate programs. However, it is important to know which exam should be taken. First and foremost, check the college requirements and check if they require the SAT or ACT, then decide which exam to go for.
If there are both options available, students may find this article helpful in making a choice: How is ACT Different from SAT? March 5, 2023: International students aiming to apply for Columbia University admissions in 2023, will not be required to submit ACT or SAT scores for undergraduate admissions. Columbia University will assess its undergraduate admission applications based on English language proficiency, high school GPA and the essays they submit.
February 08, 2023: The College Board introduced SAT's Digital version of the exam in March 2023. The exam is now a two-hour test instead of three hours previously. Test-takers are allowed to use a calculator for all math questions of the exam. "The digital SAT is easier to take, easier to give, and more relevant," said Priscilla Rodriguez, Vice President of College Readiness Assessments (PSAT & SAT) at The College Board.
International students are to be prepared to take the digital SAT test in early 2023 and US high school students will be able to take it from 2024 onwards. Currently, students use a pencil to fill in the bubbles on a multiple-choice answer sheet. With the Digital SAT test, students will get their SAT scores within a span of a few days instead of weeks.
Due to COVID-19, test centres are not operating at their full capacity. Candidates can register and book their exam slots for this academic year for taking the SAT 2023. They can check the availability of the test centre near them during registration. Many universities abroad are going test-optional as the SAT is being cancelled. What does it mean for students and whether this arrangement is here to stay? Check out the US Universities that go test-optional as
SAT/ ACT get cancelled due to coronavirus COVID-19. Recently, the College Board introduced the SAT in India. students looking to pursue higher education in premier universities in India would be pleased to know that in 2018, the College Board brought into effect an India Higher Education Alliance with various academic establishments. All the university affiliates in the Alliance are accepting SAT scores for admission from Indian students and around the world. Hence, students who want to study abroad and also apply to universities can appear for the SAT test. Also, check the list of Indian academic universities accepting SAT scores.

Oppenheimer (2023)
🎬During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world's first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history.
📝A truly magnificent film, based on the equally excellent book ('American Prometheus'). It's full of excellent cast and tells us about the Golden Age of Physics as well as the dark age of the bomb. A thought provoking film and Cillian Murphy is just phenomenal. I highly recommend that you watch this in the cinema.

“Christopher Nolan does do a good job with directing beautiful looking, cerebral films. His use of sound editing in this film, leaving breaths or rests in the sound verged on symphonic composure.”
“For a three hour movie about a bomb, it shouldn’t be too hard to pass the Bechdel test but somehow Nolan fails to pass it.”
I’m dropping opinion bombs over on my Letterboxd! Go read more of my thoughts on Oppenheimer below.

thought if the day:
oppenheimer = very good fucking movie.
frankly my education did not encompass what really went on during the manhattan project enough and the armed races between differing countries. the acting was phenomenal, I enjoyed how they brought to light the red scare sweeping through the usa and how that impacted everything. what I liked most was the realism behind it at points. again this is all coming from a person with very little historical background besides what was mandated in school. honestly Oppenheimer’s last phrase to Einstein during the movie really fucking sold me over all + plus his contact morals vs academia battle when coming to full fruition with the project.

Series 7 Episode 5: The Angels Take Manhattan
Hey all, I am starting my write-up of this review mid lecture because I am boreddddd. Today we’re going to be tackling Amy & Rory’s departure story, The Angels Take Manhattan. We’ve got so many big signifiers for Moffat’s writing at this point. Amy & Rory, River Song, the Weeping Angels, some timey wimey shenanigans, etc. I see it as a finale of this era of the show, with all its iconic parts, so let’s see if it lives up to this expectation.
So thematically, I do very much like this story. The noir aesthetic that they play into, the mirroring of Amy & Rory’s relationship VS The Doctor & River’s, the way that Amy and Rory’s love SAVES the day. It’s a celebration of these characters and it works super well on that front. Whilst I found their zap back to the past at the end of the story rather abrupt, the moment still landed and it instantly makes clear that this event will be a pivotal turning point in the Doctor’s character. This story nails every character, and that’s so important when the stakes are so high.
Unfortunately, whilst the character has been nailed here, I need to talk about the Weeping Angels. In my Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone review, I talked about how by adding so many new features to the Angels, they became demystified, and that the more you bring the Angels back, the less scary/effective a villain they’re going to become. The Angels Take Manhattan contributes to this issue just by making another Weeping Angel story, but then the rules around them start to be twisted yet again. They can now displace people in space as well as time, if they’re damaged then so are their powers, the rules keep changing. And the most egregious example of this over all 3 Angel stories.. The Statue of Liberty is a Weeping Angel, and during the night often blinks over to the abandoned building the Angels took over. Arguably the most famous statue in the world, that I would wager has at least one person looking at it at all times, and it managed to move? This surely breaks the pre-established rules of the Weeping Angels, but also even if we accept this, how did no one notice? Sure, Doctor Who doesn’t always make sense. It’s a show about a two-hearted alien who travels through space and time. But alongside that, the writing is typically very solid and takes in these historical considerations, so I can’t just ignore this. If you do something this big, you need to have an explanation prepared, and yet there isn’t one ever presented to us. Big Daisy grumble moment.
This story absolutely nails Amy & Rory’s farewell though. Over the last 2 seasons we’ve seen them grow closer and closer, and how important they’ve become in each other’s lives. Alongside this, they’ve shown they’re willing to sacrifice anything for each other i.e. Amy in Amy’s Choice choosing the real world based off of the one Rory is alive in, and Rory in The Big Bang committing to guarding the box she’s in for thousands of years. So, I find it very poetic that this story showcases this again. Rory is willing to jump off a building to his almost certain death to make sure Amy is safe, and Amy allows herself to be zapped back to the past by a Weeping Angel just for the chance to find Rory again. These two LOVE each other and that love empowers this episode so much.
TL:DR/Overview - The Angels Take Manhattan is a story that undoubtedly was made with love and care for this era of the show and its characters. It lets Amy & Rory shine as companions, and the way the mystery revolves around a noir novel is something I also enjoy. The biggest gripe I have though is once again my disagreement with how this era of the show has handled the Weeping Angels, and this episode is no exception, which makes it a very difficult one to rate. And when something is conflicting, that usually means a balanced B tier makes the most sense. Fantastic character work, but a poorly treated threat.

P.S: I am now in deadline season with lots of coursework, and so this may be my last review for a little while. Luckily, after that I'll be on holiday again and probably itching to write, so hopefully we'll be able to get another streak going again. Thanks for all the support as always :)

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 8: JASON TAKES A BOAT TO MANHATTAN- 1989 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jason Voorhees wakes up at the bottom of Camp Crystal Lake. Tired of his surroundings, he takes a boat to the big apple and kills a bunch of people on the way!
Always loved this film and never understood why so many people dislike it so much compared to other Friday the 13th sequels.
Kane Hodder is the best Jason. Lots of fun/creative kills. I like the parts on the boat and love seeing Jason in New York. Tamara and Julius are my two favourite characters. Julius and Jason's rooftop boxing match is the best scene of the movie hands down.
The man Jason throws in the bar is Ken Kerzinger who plays Voorhees in Freddy vs Jason.
100 minute running time, the longest of any of the Friday films.
Poor box office results for Jason takes Manhattan caused Paramount to sell the franchise rights to New Line Cinema.

Djdkddjdkf the take on monopolies too, and the overburdened workers taking the damage, and the way the controlling interest can twist the narrative to cannibalize people against each other as a distraction while those at the top continue to profit. (And more ACAB jabs while they're at it.) American Tail DTV sequel coming for the jugular.
Maybe that's why it doesn't get as much attention... 🤔

for fun & information, building on what’s laid out in this post, other known details either directly stated in other reviews &/or where one can confidently infer connections b/w vaguer info in several reviews to extrapolate a piece of lore include:
well for one thing the linked review mentions eva runs a cabaret, other sources (including the casting call) describe the ruby room as a speakeasy, presumably ft. cabaret. also implying that prohibition is underway
the linked review also describes jimmy as keen on dot, whereas another describes dot as in love with jimmy. i’m going to infer there’s mutual interest, also plausibly relevant to the fact that jimmy seems to always be in the same places / situations alongside dot throughout the show
by act two, four years after the titular events, the Alternate Timeline part of things is kicking in and there is some authoritarian regime
eva’s sister ingrid dies at some point, but is apparently alive for some or all of act two, according to the casting call having the actor play two roles in act two, including ingrid, but one different character in act three
linked review cites dot, jimmy, eva, and lady generosity as running the niagara falls lodge, but dot might have an especial leadership role, between being the protagonist and another review describing her as becoming a cool-headed, principled leader
lady generosity getting another shot at love is presumably with floyd yolk, the folksy drifter guitarist who shows up at the lodge
the french fur tycoon triplets are trying to pull some kind of scam, and/or perhaps scheme
the “figure from the past presumed dead” who shows up at the lodge, also to not Not cause problems, is richard whitney, presumedly presumed dead as of some later point in act one
apparently the first atomic bomb detonation happens in niagara falls, and our characters are “puzzled witnesses” to this. i don’t think they die, or even are necessarily imminently doomed to die because of it, but i wish i was more sure on this point lol. this may or many not a result of whatever the french trio are up to. we know the principle characters encounter the people responsible in at least one scene
