So I’m reading about Samia on Stereogum, and OH MY GOD, her mum is 3-time Substitute Teacher of the Year, Peggy Hill! (☉_☉) That practically makes Bobby her cartoon brother… 

Co-written with Rostand Batmanglij and featuring Minneapolis rapper/singer Papa MBye, Samia’s latest single, ‘Mad At Me,’ is sun-kissed and carefree as the singer hangs out with friends at the lake, a total picture of effortless cool. 

And yet, it can be quite an alien feeling for Samia. As she explains (via Stereogum): 

‘The lyrics for ‘Mad At Me’ came from a poem I’d written about imagining what it’d be like to stop caring about what anyone was thinking […] I was cosplaying a position that I haven’t experienced – which is of literally any confidence in my point of view. In the video we tried to embody that character – a bunch of girls having a good time in spite of it all. It is a big lie.’ 

Samia’s upcoming album, Honey, is out January 27 via Grand Jury.
