So my joints hate my (yay hypermobility!) So I just spent 2 hours creating an embroidery design that I'm gonna slap on some fabric, to make into cushions, to prop my joints up while I sleep so I don't dislocate anything!
Still gotta test it out and everything, but once I do, I'm planning on putting it up on my Ko-Fi if you guys wanna stitch out some OUCH things on your own
Preservation aux mission patch refinement process!
This shows the whole story from the first iteration which had a catastrophic error during the letter R, through multiple rounds of messy text and circular planets coming out as footballs, and then finally having it set on the last one in the line only for the machine to jam at the top of the border 😆 luckily I had time to run that file again so I had a finished one to give Martha at the signing I went to.
I don’t have a completed picture of the true final one, but I did take a process shot while it was still in the hoop:
My current project: an elven dress for Idril Celebrindal made from lavender crushed velvet and silver silk dupion. I wanted to make an elven dress of one of Arwen's ancestors. So the style is recognisable from the movies, but I had a different character in mind when designing it. Also I've done a lot of burgundy red gowns lately, so I wanted to use more spring like colours. The combination of lavender and silver feels very elvish to me. And as is my usual style I added lots of embroidery, both hand- and machine embroidery. I plan to make a lavender embroidered cape as well, but I ran out of fabric.
The good news is that optimizing a previously bad machine embroidery design feels good.
The old was 35 color blocks and over 470 trim commands. For people who don't embroider, you want all of those to be as low as possible, because fewer color blocks means less work from you, and fewer jump commands means fewer chances for your machine to jam. The new is 140 trim commands (for 6 repeats of the design) and 9 color blocks.
The downside is that the amazing optimization was of one of my most famous embroidered shit posts.
Thank black outline stitches out continuously with no cuts, having been carefully sculpted to alternate between triple stitches and double stitches to smoothly backtrack where a jump could be required. The text next to it fucking says nice cock
I've been having fun learning how to use my library's embroidery machine - this is one of the first patches I designed in inkstitch, and I'm super happy with how it turned out!
Here's a very sped up process video stitching out this octopus sweater. Stick around to the end for a fun surprise.
Video ID: no audio. Stitching an octopus onto a sweater with my embroidery machine. The footage is sped up and between colors we take a look at my cat who is watching me from the other side of the embroidery machine. As we change colors, more and more details get added to the octopus. I rinse off the water soluble topper and then show the final sweater in the light. When I turn off the light the outline of the octopus glows.
If you like this sweater, it's for sale! It's about 24" laid flat across the chest. Here's a link: https://shop.noncompliantcyborg.com/product/glow-in-the-dark-octopus-sweater
