General

These guys are part of my personal MSM AU called "Illuminated Lands"! It's.. a lot to explain but everyone is humanized and living in a mostly fantasy-themed continent rather secluded from the human world. I've done a lot of worldbuilding and character writing but besides "The Celestials suddenly went missing and a terrible illness is spreading around the lands" I haven't really gotten a clear cut idea on how the story would go 😭

Volt (Common Wubbox)

It's not very apparent at first, but Volt's a robot created by Galvana. He was tasked with a very special purpose from the beginning of his creation, to find and save the Celestials should anything bad ever happen to them (to which, it did). While he is kind and tenacious normally, Volt is deathly afraid of disappointing people that he cares for. He got attached to his friends pretty quickly. However, he struggles to find a sense of identity and a reason to live beyond his original purpose.

C.D / Compact Disk (Rare Wubbox)

C.D is a runaway child of the Electric Celestial herself, and supposedly Volt's "older brother". He was actually the one who was supposed to be given a certain important task, but that responsibility fell on Volt instead because C.D ran away fron home. Galvana thought it would be cruel to drag the child back if it was against his wishes, so decided on an alternative. C.D is rebellious and doesn't like being restricted by rules. He's also very flamboyant and carefree, even coming off as arrogant to many. But the truth is that he simply has his own ways of doing things, unconventional as they may be. C.D actually cares a lot for Volt and is always looking out for him in secret. Perhaps, this is his way of compensating for his past actions.

Twig (Plant Epic Wubbox)

Coming from a rather prestigious family of Deerfolks, Twig was always expected to go big. His parents always wanted him to go down a healer's path early on. Twig quickly became a prodigy when he mastered several types of medical subjects quite quickly. His mentor was actually Blassoom, though under a disguise as a regular resident of the lands. Being her star pupil, Twig was one of the few let in on the secret. When he graduated and officially became a doctor, life got busy. But seeing all sorts of patients from across the lands, it made Twig think about how there's so much more to see beyond his home. After an encouragement from Blassoom herself, he decided it would be good to become a traveling doctor. He'd still be able to help people, but he could also live his dream to see the world. Sometime during his travels, he became acquianted with Volt and the rest of the friend group.

Haze (Cold Epic Wubbox)

While the Water Region of the lands are primarily populated by humans, it's not common to find them anywhere else. Haze is one of those rare occurences, coming from the Cold Region. Her past is a big mystery, even to herself. All she knows is that Glaishur found her as a child and took her in. Another thing about her is that she's abnormally resistant to the cold, and she's capable of magic unlike other humans living in the Illuminated Lands. To outsiders, Haze is truly an enigma. But to her friends, she's the quiet yet caring and protective one among them.

Jet (Air Epic Wubbox)

A genius avian engineer that comes from the Air Region. Rumors about her say that she was terribly ill as a child. But because of a miracle from the stars, she's recovered and went on to do great things. The truth is.. more complicated, but Jet won't deny the part about miracles from the stars. After all, her father and her mentor were the Air and Mech Celestials in disguise. She is forever grateful for their support and care, and Vhamp's influence was the reason why she wanted to work with machinery in the first place. Anyways, Jet is rather introverted and doesn't like leaving her workshop. But she is actually casual and witty outside her work (to which she takes extremely seriously). She developed a deep sibling bond with Volt after they met by chance.

Ripple (Water Epic Wubbox)

The Water Region is split into two parts, the land and the sea. The former is mostly populated by humans. Meanwhile, the latter is a host to many wondrous creatures and species. Ripple is a seafolk of unknown origins. He'd been alone for as far as he can remember. When he was younger, he met with a young Anglow named Lily and became so close they were inseparable. He really didn't have anyone besides her, so to say it broke him when she and her species departed from this world and returned to theirs was an understatement. Ripple was then given to Hornacle for care, for he was a friend to all land-dwellers and seafolks alike. The grief still hurt, but it slowly heals itself over time. Life was alright from then on, or atleast.. until the day the stars dimmed and the Celestials disappeared all at once. Ripple now believes he is cursed, eventually becoming afraid to make friends or form bonds. However, when he found Volt and the others who said they might have a chance to find the Celestials again.. what has he got to lose by sticking around and clinging to that slim chance?

Rust (Earth Epic Wubbox)

Rust is a half-human half-dragon. When he was young, he lost both his parents and had to leave the Illuminated Lands to live with his aunt. However, she was heavily controlling of him and constantly forbids him to show his draconic side. Rust didn't complain as he was taught to respect and appreciate his family. He tried his best to do so.. until his aunt tried cutting off his horns entirely. He wasn't going to stand there and let her strip away a part of himself, so he finally fought back and escaped. His left horn was broken off, and he was bleeding all the way back to the Illuminated Lands. But luck smiled upon him as Scaratar had found the little boy passed out in a clearing. He lived happier with her ever since. Despite his rocky childhood, Rust grew up to be a supportive and caring person. He's always around to help anyone he can, both with his compassion and strength.

And so.. thats it! It was a bit nerve-wrecking to post this.. but I like talking about my stories, so who cares anymore! Expect random content of this AU from time to time as I develop the story more. And for those who's read this far down? You have my heart <3

I just realized that what sets Netflix's Stretch Armstrong above the rest of contemporary superhero cartoons is that it gave each protagonist a rich inner and personal life, both separate from their superhero identity AND serving as their motivation to become a superhero. Compare Jake, Nathan, Ricardo, and Riya to Marvel's Spider-Man's main protagonists - Peter, Miles, Anya, Gwen, and Harry.

Out of the five MSM protags, only Peter has his personal life consistently explored. Harry's personal life is explored but only in opposition to Peter's, and once Harry's arc concludes in S1, he drops off as a protagonist entirely and becomes a supporting character in S2 & S3. While Gwen gets some personal life development in S1, it is to only forward the villain-of-the-week plotline. Once that resolves, Gwen is hardly given any real character growth except in a few key episodes with Anya. We never see her father or what her life is like outside of Horizon High. Miles and Anya both have a single episode that explores their family dynamics and THEN we only see Jefferson and (a fake!) Maria as poorly-executed villains to add drama to the last half of S3. Neither Miles or Anya organically develops without either Peter or Gwen around.

With Stretch Armstrong, each of the protagonist's family and past are explored. You get the backstory, you get familial dynamics, and you get motivations. Jake wants to be a hero to both escape the confines of the rigid expectations his father places on him AND because he feels like he can finally put all the lessons his dad taught him to use. Nathan wants to be a hero to protect his family and stay close to his friends. Ricardo wants to be a hero because he finally wants to belong somewhere - he wants community, and he wants friends that he doesn't have to leave behind. Riya's primary motivation is avenging her parents and taking down Rook before his corporate schemes go too far. And notice how all their motivations are distinct to their family dynamics and personal ambitions!

Why do Gwen, Anya, and Miles want to be heroes? We don't learn about Miles' desire to protect his neighborhood until S3! What are they motivated by? Just a desire to help? They're just naturally good people and want to make the world a better place? But why? Where does that desire come from? What do their family and community think of them - how are they motivated by those factors? MSM hardly explores that - MSM is primarily in service to the fantastical elements of Peter's life. And, when we do have time to catch up on the protags' personal lives, it is almost always Peter that has these moments. The MSM writers wanted to give Peter a team but then they never explored that team, never gave the audience to care about them other than "they're Peter's friends," while Stretch Armstrong gave Jake a team and THEN chose to develop each protagonist into their own fully-realized character. The show was about Jake but his team was not there to just serve his character and story - they each had their OWN character and OWN story. Had SAATFF been picked up for an S3, I'm almost positive Erika's personal life outside of Nathan would also have been fully explored to the point of being a main character rather than a secondary one.

IDK man, it just feels like contemporary superhero shows and comics in general can't balance the fantastical with the average, day-to-day lives of their protagonists. That's why ITSV and ATSV are so revered and stand out - because of that balance. Miles is a compelling character because he deals with and endures all these fantastical elements of his life WHILE having problems with his parents and deciding what his future will entail. Gwen is a compelling character for similar reasons. Their romance is compelling for these reasons - balancing the fantastical with the mundane - Gwen protecting Miles by keeping him away from Spider Society and all of its secrets, but still feeling jealous when Miles eyes Margo; Miles coming along with Gwen to earth-50101 to help her and then slightly panicking upon learning Gwen has been staying on another earth with a dude named Hobie.

If superhero writers have forgotten this, if they can't find that balance and explore it, then we're really in fucking trouble for years and years to come.

Blue: A Bowgart. Very shy, pretty much to the point he gets anxious around others. He mostly talks to those he's very familiar with, and can take a very long time to warm up to strangers. Once beyond his shyness, Blue is a bit talkative, and very knowledgeable in many subjects. He reads and cooks/bakes a lot, usually stocking up his dainty cottage with sweet treats. Blue is a very caregiving individual, taking in Tweedledee as his "son" when he hatched, and raising Lily the Human when she stumbles into the Monster World. He tends to be reserved (like most Bowgarts) and reasonable with others. His dark blue fur (compared to the nearly baby blue-cornflower blue of regular common Bowgarts) allows him to stand out amongst his kind and other monsters. He's about 5'9".

Twig: A Shrubb. He's rowdy and energetic; always landing himself into some sort of trouble (that Blue usually gets Twig out of XD). He's bold and somewhat reckless in everything he does, but does have a hidden timid side, though that doesn't come out often. He lives in the castle with most of the Monster population on Plant Island. Twig, along with Cozmo, love doing stupidly dangerous things and pranks on other monsters. Twig isn't afraid to speak his mind, which usually lands him into trouble with other monsters. All in all, he radiates a "I don't give a fuck" attitude. Twig is nearly 10 feet tall when he's fully standing up.

Cozmo: A Ghazt. She lives on Ethereal Island with her parents, but often visits her friends on Plant Island via teleportation. She can and will be sarcastic and sassy, but once you get to know her, shes kind and loyal at heart. As mentioned previously, she loves getting into stupid kinds of trouble with Twig, sorta like the "partners in crime" troupe. She has a knack of taking things a bit too far though, which often lands someone hurt (relatively minor and 100% accidental in all cases). She seems like a tough cookie on the outside, and though she is, Cozmo can be sensitive at times. From tip of horns to tip of tail, Cozmo is about 5 feet even.

Jadau: An Entbrat. As all Entbrats are, hes a gentle giant. Jadau has a paternal and generous spirit, making him great around the little ones. in fact, he regularly volunteers (or works) at the daycare on the island, entertaining the little nuggets and telling them fairytales and monster fables. Aside his storytelling and fatherlike soul, he takes great care to make sure no one gets hurt, whether that be his family, the little ones, and especially his friends. Jadau stands at about 10'6".

Tweedledee: A Maw. Found as a hatchling by Blue, he's known no other parental figure since. No one truly knows who Dee's true parents are, and no one has bothered to claim Tweedledee as their own biologically. You could say that Dee is somewhere between a pet and a son in relation to Blue, but everyone just refers to Dee as Blue's little companion (nonexplicit to what he actually is, pet or son). Dee is about 1'9", and often barks and yelps in his own little Maw ways.

Bumbleweed: A Potbelly. B owns and works on a farm, selling his produce as the best on the island (and it is). Master tradesmonster, he knows the market inside and out. Bumbleweed will often sell seasonal produce instead of the more common year-round produce (which tends to fluctuate in quality; i'll explain more in a separate post), and work a pawn shop/stand in the winter months. His most frequent customer at any given time of the year is Blue, to no one's surprise. Bumbleweed, unusually, has yellowish stripes instead of darker green spots along his "spine," the latter being what most Potbellies have along their "spines." B is about 5'1" in height.

All of them, maybe except Tweedledee, are around 22-24ish. Blue and Twig have been friends since early youth, and Twig introduced Blue to Cozmo and Jadau in primary school (yes they have school i said so).

i think two things can be true at once. yes we need more visibility for male abuse victims and if there's one thing i'm glad for when it comes to this case it's that there's more awareness about it. on the other hand u sound extremely dismissive of female abuse victims lol, the gabby petito case was literally a year ago and the cops had no trouble believing the man in that situation. obviously we still have work to do on both fronts. and again, this has literally popularized DARVO tactics for abusers, why are u feigning ignorance to the larger consequences of this case?

How exactly am I being dismissive of female abuse victims by saying that there's no tangible evidence that this one trial has changed how domestic violence cases are handled? Men are still significantly biased against, and sometimes both men AND women are shafted due to charges being pressed on the "victim's" behalf like in my parents' case. It's not feigning ignorance when I literally have not noticed what you claim to be a pressing issue for victims of abuse and future abuse trials.

As other anons have said, experts can be wrong. Experts are not at all immune to bias, including gender bias, and are still fallible human beings. I don't know why people elevate experts onto this heightened plane of existence when experts themselves often disagree amongst each-other. If your only basis for believing something is "oh an expert said so" then you're frankly an idiot with no ability to form your own conclusions.

Also, I readily admitted that mainstream media was generally biased towards Depp, while some outlets were biased towards Heard. I personally wasn't claiming a larger agenda, just pointing out that different individual people have their own agendas and biases and that most mainstream media outlets heavily curate and censor what can and cannot be posted onto their site.

I posted pro-Depp stuff, yes, because I side with Depp in this situation, because that's where the evidence pointed from my understanding. I never said I didn't pass judgment literally anywhere. I just said that I didn't care about Depp or Heard as people, because how could I when I literally do not know them?

so this is gonna be half a vent, half a random rambling about the power of good narrative.

so, first off: I love narrative-heavy games, to me those are the top-notch games, a 10/10 game for me always something that touches me emotionally. (Not saying that everything needs a strong narrative.)

context: Spooder-Man 2 (don't even wanna spell it right, so the fans don't find this post) was the game that kept me alive while I was dealing with my mom's cancer diagnosis. The promise of my favorite character interpretation having to deal with the black suit and the emotional fallout? Good shit, bring it! I trusted Insomniac so blindly because two of my favorite games were made by them. (And I completely forgot how much I hate R&C, lol, that's on me.)

The fandom of Spooder-Man kept me hanging tight when I was suicidal, ngl.

And then came the break, lol, the release, the fucking leaks, and while it's a great game, it's not an amazing one because the narrative sucks so bad.

Look, it has technical marvels (dear god, the fast travel), and the fighting is flashy (and easy), but the open world is boring and repetitive. No problem, right? I had a great time while playing for a day. (LOL)

And later when I started to replay it, I just hated everything about it, even on ultimate difficulty (sorry) it was boring, brain-dead, and even though the art direction is nice? I just can't enjoy it again, because the narrative sucks. All I see are the plot holes, the mediocre clichéd story.

Now, comes Banishers, which is... not a game that cost 320 million dollars... It's an AA game, from a studio whose last two games were let's face it, not good. Is the fighting ground-breaking? Absolutely not. It's the most bland thing you can imagine - but it's not far off from Spooder-Man (LOL again). Are the open-world stuff innovative? Hell no.

But it has such a good narrative, such a compelling story, and characters and atmosphere, I look at it, AND I HAVE THE URGE to 100% it. To fucking walk through the map, and find every single side-quest. Do the side-quests switch up what you need to do? No, it's a crime-solving simulator, with only the story elements differing, and dear god, it's still enough to keep me going.

Spooder-Man had everything to be a masterpiece - the franchise made Peter and Miles fighting side by side an accepted thing in fandom (though the MSM cartoon aired sooner), had such a good take on characters, implemented everything from previous iterations, had the potential to become the greatest Venom adaptation... and they dropped the ball so hard that I'm not even expecting a DLC, and I'm not even sure I will fucking buy it. Because I just look at the characters and the map and I have the urge to urgh.

Interesting how a good narrative elevates a game. Doesn't really matter if the fighting is mid, or you don't do any innovative stuff, if you nail the narrative, most people will care.

Cross dressing is fucking so weird... <Give me the benefit of the doubt. This isn't coming from hate or anything, only observation.> I don't get it (duh), but there's a million weird things cultures from all over the world do that, upon reflection, are stupid to me, but people get used to it. Accept it. Embrace it. Even if it's destructive sometimes (those tribes that extend their lips with huge rocks! COME ON! That can't be good for their health! Their teeth AT MINIMUM.) Whatever.

But how is it out of all these alternative things we got...what? 4-5 different drag type shows THAT ARE HUGE! Ok. If people like it and it makes them happy, to watch or participate, fine. I am happy for you (I also don't really care.)

HOWEVER, here's where the weird part comes in. How come it is always men dressing up as women? I don't think, WORLDWIDE, there is a single show glorifying women cross dressing as men. And I get it to a degree-women have much nicer and (usually) more comfortable clothes (NOT COUNTING HEELS-THOSE WERE MADE BY THE DEVIL!) But doesn't that say a lot about our society? We can have movies, musicians, and celebs cross dress for tv shows...as long as they are men dressing as women.

Just saying...if I wanted to push a narrative to make men more...submissive, I would have them dress as women and NEVER let women dress as men (can't, in turn, empower the women).

You don't find it weird in less than 15 years, drag shows of men being women are EVERYWHERE in MSM, accepted easily, but no one is trying women dressing as men? You think there would be SOME audience and profit motivation. I would even watch it once just to see if I can tell if they are a woman or not. IMO, far easier for a man to look like a woman than vice versa. There's BIG girls, not too many small stringy men, ya know?

Just weird how one way is idolized and the other is straight up ignored. "It's not as popular." WHY? Cuz just like white trans people are probably less killed than non white trans people, I bet women get more shit dressing up as men than men do dressing up as women...we normalized one, shamed the other. But they're the same thing! UGh. Fucking humans. Contradictions walking.

So, I like to stay up with the news, such as it is. That's for better or worse really, because so much of it is a shitshow, but sticking your head in the sand doesn't help matters.

I don't ask much; I want objective reporting from a conservative point of view (bye bye majority of the MSM). And I mean objective; unlike the left, I do not desire an echo chamber. I want to scroll and read stories; I am not as interested in watching video clips on my phone. I want relevant news, or the whole thing is an exercise in futility.

Fox has been pissing me off, because I swear there is just as much "news" about Taylors Wift, Travis Kelce, his brother Jason, Patrick Mahomes and family, and football in general, as there is anything else on there! How's things going with the Epstein lists? I don't know, but I can tell you people are in a flame war with Alyssa Milano, whoever that is (yes, I've heard the name, I'm not monastic, but don't ask me what she's been in). I have to make something abundantly clear; I care as much about football as I care about celebrities, and that is not at all. Every third story as I scroll, oh, what's that little minx Taylor done now? You ever notice in every photo that is taken of her, her mouth is never closed? Like seriously, is she just always talking? What's this? The fat football man took off his shirt and drank beer? And Travis and Patrick are throwing a temper tantrum because they lost and it must be the ref's fault?

I don't care! If I did, I would be over in the sports and/or entertainment section, but I'm not, because I wanted the news.

So I downloaded Newsmax. Jury's still out... except on the app, there's precious little in the way of news articles, and so much more to do with their lineup of streaming shows. I'm giving it a chance, but when I'm looking for a wall of headlines and options, to date, that's not it.

Downloaded DailyWire. I've been a Jeremy's Razor subscriber since they came out, and I noticed as I was scrolling news yesterday, there was only one story related to Jason Kelce taking his shirt off and his wife being shitty about it on instant-gram. Only one. Nice.

Fox... is losing their core audience. You have to have a blend of news and entertainment; that's where their excellent line of hosts come in. But between the constant celebrity gossip especially revolving around a pop singer and a football man, and the section you come across which is just shameless clickbait, wait a minute, let me find a picture...

The sensationalism where you put one word of the headline in all caps to grab attention from the punters. Family blah blah blah DISEASE!!! Blah blah RESPONDS to blah blah blah... That's trashy tabloid shit. Not the quality I would expect from a respected news organization.

Fox News was created to fill a massive void; they were the only right-wing point of view on cable, AND mainstream enough to becone very popular. Whackadoos, whether they're found to be right or not, scare the normals. So it was that, and AM talk radio as your options. But Fox had better straighten up, because they're not the only game in town anymore, and their quality is slipping. Hard. 🥔

Today I come here to give a sad warning : I will be ending all my activity here at uwva, because I haven't been having fun + and I don't want to force myself trying to continue something that doesn't give me + " pleasure " or fun. Uh- a few ig?? This is just how I see their dynamic [MSM DoF and MSM, in that order]

DoF: Attmoz, being bored on Starhenge and looking down at the Continent below, often seeks adventure among the mortals [i.e. just wants to get off Starhenge for a bit, look into the monsters way of life, etc. Fyi this all against Galvanas word]. Glaishur often tags along, wanting to see the world also and because he can calm Galvana down and give a reasonable "excuse" when they do get in trouble. They also like too touch; cuddling, sleeping on the same cloud [courtesy of Attmoz], leaning on each other's shoulders, stuff like that. And as funny as this might sound, Attmoz gets flustered easily in this relationship. If so much as one Celestial glances in their direction, he'll be all like "fuck pls don't think I'm gay ;; tho I am ;_;" etc etc. Glaishur doesn't really care, per se. They're both just. Gay Grandpas™️. [DoF Glaishur big buff softie fr fr]

MSM: since they're younger, the ship isn't really intimate, it's more playful. Bear hugs and playful nuzzles make up a good chunk of any sort of touch, tho they do sleep on the same cloud [once again courtesy of attmoz]. But like I said, it's more playful than intimate. The best way to describe this dynamic is: Glaishur bear hugs attmoz from behind, they both laugh. Attmoz isn't as paranoid bc he's young and also everyone else is young, and once again, Glaishur doesn't care. And also they don't go off celestial island bc they're in the middle of a big ocean and thats Scary™️ 😰. They'll often just skygaze on a cloud tho. Silly things like that.
